I bought this guitar for Pantera style music and that's mostly what I play it for but it's pickups are surprisingly Versatile; I could see a player in most any style of music that isn't extremely heavy being quite happy with them. The sound is bright but a very nice tone In my mind. The only flaw is with the tiny practice amp I play through I don't get that much distortion so my Pinch harmonics are a little weak.

Here's Where the guitar both shines and falters in a number of Ways.
You see the nut was gigantic at purchase.
The input Jack has an idiotic design, it comes out of the front of the body instead of one of the sides or some other cavity so reinforcing it is an excellent idea.
Now where the guitar is a Gem, The Action is PERFECT yes PERFECT (Came next to perfect); If a Gibson SG in the $900 Range had action rated at 8.5 I'd still rate this at 11 It's that good (FAST AND ACCURATE).
Pickups were great with stock settings.
Controls are all What you'd expect and look good.

Asides from the previously mentioned input jack (I would get a Washer about the size of front jack and use it to bolt the two sides together as this is both easy and a permanent solution to that problem) I have nothing bad to say here.
The body wood does seem a little soft though so after gigging a bit you can expect a number of dings on the edges of the wings.
Strap buttons are solid and the guitar seems decently balanced so strap locks aren't that necessary if you aren't that serious of a player
As for not backing it up Yeah it's no problem if you've fixed your input jack.

Didn't Deal with them as I only had a single minor problem.

I've been playing for about five years and have had a lot of different guitars and played so many others, I'm a major guitar enthusiast. I own a Pre-Gibson era Kramer, a Silvertone Apocalypse, a Cheapish Schecter, A Gibson made Baby V, etc... I.E. I know when a guitar is awesome and when it's crap
If It was stolen I'd probably be depressed for a while but then I would try deciding my Next Dean to Purchase Probably a Similar ML or a Razorback
Although in retrospect I do kinda Wish It had a Floyd and EMG's that's just me being selfish If you want them Go for the ML Knight
The best thing about this guitar is the Playability Any Dean with at least a set neck for will have Excellent playability whether you have to have it set up or not.
The Previous Reviewer Dogged on this guitar so badly but this is an Awesome guitar all around and Supremely good for the Price.

Here's why I'm submitting this before I take it out and jam. The paint is only OK. The silverburst black edging is not smoothly painted. Kinda sloppy. The internal soldering is a little sloppy too. Glued in neck must have flexed or something because when I was restringing it the neck made a "pop" sound and at the glue joint a crack in the paint showed up. ALSO..the nut is not as wide as the neck. There's a gap. Really sloppy. I had read positive reviews for these Dean reissue guitars so I bought one. Don't believe everything you read I guess.

Totally lame. I went to the Dean website and called them to see what I could do about these issues. I was transfered to a voicemail and was never called back.

I need a cheaper beater guitar but I expect a degree of performane from it. At about $500.00 with no case this isn't exactly a cheap-cheap guitar. I am sooo disappointed. I really thought I'd get more from a Dean. All my other guitars are American made and they are FAR superior in quality. The workmanship and quality control don't compare. My Ernie Ball/Music Man and G&L guitars and even my Ibanez's are way, way better.
