2009 manufacture date. Made in korea. 22 medium frets. rosewood fingerboard, pearl inlays, very nice flame maple top. Mahogany body and neck. Set neck construction, not bolt on. Nice cherry sunburst finish. Explorer/ Les Paul hybrid body shape. Gold hardware, tone-omatic bridge. Grover tuners. No case but came with truss rod adjusment wrench. Two volume, two tone controls, 3 way pickup selector, two Dean zebra humbuckers.

I am blown away by how nice this guitar is. Sounds, looks, and plays better than a Gibson Les Paul Standard. Actually has more clarity and treble bite than a Les Paul and also maintains a tight bottom end with no mud. Very crisp, fat, rich, mahogany/maple tone. Note definition is fabulous. Great sustain and the body resonates nicely. I actually think the stock pickups are very good. Nice medium/hot output and they produce great tone clean or dirty. I may experiment with Duncans in the future but for now these are just fine. They remind me of Dimarzio super distortions in tone and output, not super hot but hot enough to drive an amp nicely.Dean informed me that they are 14-15k output for the bridge and 10-12k for the neck. That is plenty of output. This guitar will get you a Classic Gibson/ Marshall/ Scorpions tone easily. It sounds killer through my Hughes and Kettner Switchbade Head on Marshall type settings or my Peavey 5150 combo. The guitar is very quiet with no grounding problems or pickup microphonics.

This guitar is built like a tank. Craftsmanship is equal to or better than Gibson. All it needed was a quick tuning out of the box. Intonaton, string height, truss rod and pickups were all set correctly. Plays beautifully. I cannot find a single flaw on this guitar!!!

I cannot say enough good about this guitar. I have played for 28 years.... all rock and roll. 12 years at Ernie Ball Music man as an assembly/setup/QC tech. I cannot find a single thing to complain about on this instrument. I have checked it out from top to bottom and Compared it to a Gibson Les Paul Standard and My Musicman Van Halen. This guitar Came in second to my Musicman EVH and beat a $2000.00 Gibson Les paul Standard in tone, playability, and build quality. After playing a basswood/maple EVH for all of these years I was looking for a guitar that would give me a Mahogany/Gibson like tone but I also didn't feel like spending $2,000.00 dollars just for a name to get it. I know how a guitar should play and feel and can tell if they are built well just by a quick inspecton and play test. This guitar passed my test. I knew there had to be a well made guitar out there that would give me what I was looking for without having to shell out a lot of cash. This Dean is it. Incredible craftsmanship for the price. It can run with the expensive Name brands easily. Dean should be proud.

Mine is a Korean Tiger Eye. I got it from BRG Music in Perry Iowa. Steve Rocks. This is by far one of the best imports I've ever owned. It is my main axe. I have Dean USA PU"s installed the Baker Act and the Time Capsule. I've installed a Graphite Nut. It's Mahogany with TUne o matic bridge, rosewood fretboard. I disassembled it. It's 2 pieces of Mahogony with a Thick Maple Top. The neck joint is great. This thing is a Les Paul killer.

It is very versatile. The only thing I would change, is to put in a coil tap to get some single coil. I don't really need that type of sound, so I can live with out it. I run it through a Carvin BEl Air with a Dunlop Slash Wah. It sounds great, the pickups are very crisp, and very responsive to the pick attack. Rolling off the volume cleans this puppy up real nice.

There is a minor finish flaw on the V headstock, something underneath the clear coat. I don't care about it. I'll probably make it look worse over the next year or so. It required a minor setup when I received it but that's expected.

Mine is an orange sunburst top, nice but not perfect bookmatch. Better below the bridge but sort of lacking between the pickups. Top part is an Explorer, bottom is a Les Paul. Gold TunOmatic, stoptail, Grovers (standard), neck is 22 fret rosewood, block inlay. No case, bought used from Ebay. I think it's a 2006 or 07. 2 V/2 T, toggle, H/H config, body/neck is mahogany with a flame maple top.

This guitar is going to give the other guitarist in my bands Les Paul a run for it's money. In my opinion, it sounds as good. I'm mainly running into a Flextone III for this project but I also have run it through my Carvin XT112 into a 4X12" and it sounds fabulous! Guitar is for the most part quiet and has a nice chunky, thick sound. Also has a pretty nice clean tone.

No clue about a factory set up but this axe stays pretty well in tune no matter how hard it's played. As mentioned before, the top is a good match but not perfect (is there one, I mean... really? either way, hence the '9' rating). This is an amazingly high quality guitar for the price. Over the past couple of years, the Korean factorys have been really putting out better and better quality machines.

Yea, it'll hold up. Everything seems to be pointing to a well made guitar that will stand up to daily playing. I would use it without a backup (except string issues of course) without hesitation.

This is actually my second Caddy. The first one I had was a flat top Elite that was cherry red and was a screamer. This one seems to be better balanced than my last one as it was tuner heavy. Still, it was a good enough Korean made item that I went for another one without hesitation. I approached Dean at NAMM 2004 and they were courteous and as helpful as they could be.

Been playing for 35 years, this is the umpteenth guitar I have owned but I will hold onto this one for a while. If it were lost or stolen I would definitely replace it since I've loved Deans since the 70's. The body style to me is still fresh and unique while still being a solid playable guitar. I've had at least 4 Deans over the past few years and I'm still pissed off at myself for selling them all, especially the Z select I had a few years ago. DUMB DUMB DUMB (won't be with this one).

I got my 2005 Caddy Select in Tiger's Eye finish, which is by far one of the nicest-looking finishes around. The neck is the perfect size, not too small, but not too large like some Les Paul's are. It's a really comfortable guitar to play, although it is fairly heavy (It weighs about the same as three Dean Vendetta's from what I've been able to tell). The stock pickups actually have a pretty good sound for metal. I've contemplated upgrading them, but overall I'm getting enough out of these to last me for now. The only thing that this guitar is lacking is a Floyd Rose, but it's such a great guitar that you won't care.

The guitar can honestly fit any style you want... I play in a progressive metal band where I mostly use it for shredding and playing quick rythm riffs, and I also play in a heavy metal band where I use it for grindingly heavy, slow, jam out riffs. On the flip side, I've used this guitar for praise and worship at my church, and it has a great blues tone if you're willing to play around with the settings.
Basically this isn't one of those guitars where you're almost limited to a certain tone, you can more or less get any sound you want from it.
I currently play it through a mic'ed Marshall MG250DFX for my metal bands and a Fender Princeton 112 when I want clean or crunchy tones. I don't really use effects with it often, but I do run it through a Digitech RP300A sometimes.
If you love using tap and pinch harmonics, you'll really love the sound, you can get the Caddy Select to scream like Dimebag were still alive, and the tap harmonics can mimick Zakk Wylde any day.

I never had to set this guitar up or change anything in it. I bought it from a local music shop, took it home, plugged in, and have been shredding ever since. The action is very low, but not too low. Playing feels almost effortless the majority of the time, and you certainly won't have any complaints regarding the feel of the action.
One thing to look out for, though, is fret buzz. Lower end and mid range Dean models seem to have this epidemic where one or two frets will be dead upon arrival. I played another one prior to this one in which the F note of the open high E was this way, and I bought a Dean Vendetta 4.0 online which arrived with its G# and A# notes on the open high A dead. It's not a big issue - it's not difficult to change yourself, although if you don't know what you're doing I wouldn't reccomend that you do it... It doesn't cost much to have a guitar professionally set up.

I've played this particular guitar probably an average of three hours a day over nearly two years now, and it isn't at all deteriorating. It more or less is in the same condition as it was when I bought it - Still plays great, still sounds great, still is great.
The gold harware is still shiny and new-looking. I take good care of my guitars, but even if you were slightly clumsy or negligent, you wouldn't have tow orry too much.
I'd certainly use this at a gig without a backup... In fact, I've done that a few times without any worries. Usually I bring my PRS and my other two Deans along to use for a song a piece (Basically to be a jerk and show that I have lots of guitars...) but I really don't like gigging with anything else because the Cadillac gives me everything I need.

I've been playing guitar for nearly seven years now, and teaching for over three. In addition to this guitar, I currently own a Dean Vendetta 4.0, a Dean icon Select, a Paul Reed Smith Santana SE, a Yamaha SA500, and a mid-range Fender Stratocaster (Or at least those are my electrics anyway). I honestly prefer my Cadillac over all of those for any occasion, except jazz, when I'll usually choose my Yamaha, then.
If this guitar were stolen... I'd hunt whoever stole it down and destroy them. I honestly couldn't go without this guitar.. I loaned it to a fellow band member for a few weeks and I was losing my mind without it.
Before playing this guitar I had narrowed my 4 month search for a new metal guitar down to the Epiphone Zakk Wylde model Les Paul, an ESP EC1000, and a B.C. Rich Platnium Warlock. I had played all of these guitars when I decided to check out Deans, which I had never played before... I went in, picked a Cadillac Select up... And I left to drive to the bank to get cash, and I bought it that day.
If you're looking for an affordable but good-quality guitar, go ahead and buy a Dean. You won't be disappointed.

2006 Dean Cadillac Select. Features were covered in my first review. It's a stock guitar. All my plans for pick-up and bridge changing went out the door because this guitar has proven to be just right the way it is.
The 9 rating in versatility is just due to the fact it doesn't have a 5-way pick-up selector, although the 3-way withthe pus-pull tones works great for me.

This guitar is one of the best sounding guitars I've ever owned/played - period!
My set up got a bit facier than when I first wrote my initial review. I added a Scholz Power Soak to my Laney LC30, had a DHA Twin Valve overdrive/distortion pedal built and added to the rig and my new pedalboard is finally completed, with the addition of a BBE SOnic Stomp at the end, just before the amp's input.
I can get almost any tone I want out of this guitar - seriously. For blues, hard blues, classic rock, hard rock and heavy metal, it simply shines and puts to shame my other guitars, especially for the rice I paid for it.
The bridge pick-up is powerful and clear. Just a bit nasaly sounding, but nothing overpowering like a PRS Custom 22. The Neck pick-up is as fat and thick as you can get anywhere. And the combination of both pick-ups with either in series or split is just awesome. When split, with a dab of overdrive and the fat boost on, think SRV with an edge.
A highly recommended instrument for any guitarrist serious about their music.

I guess my style has always been more on the bluesy side,I've also have played alot of country style stuff but I don't consider myself a country picker by no means! The reason I bought this guitar is because I've always loved the shape of a Caddy and I was getting kinda tired of playing Strats & Teles. To tell you the truth I haven't got to really try out my guitar that much since I got it a week ago.At the moment I don't have an amp so I tried it out at a friends that has a Fender Twin and it sounded great. Like I said I'm more of a blues, rock type of guy and this guitar didn't let me down. This is the first time I ever used a guitar with push, pull knobs and I really like the variety of sounds, the pickups seem to sound good to me so NO I'm not going to change them out!LOL

I usually don't do a review until at least 6 months with a piece of gear, but this time I'll make an exception.
I just received my brand new Dean Cadillac Select today and have been playing for the past 2 hours non stop, which is something I had forgotten how it felt for a very long time...
I bought this guitar sight unseen, based only on my desire to own a Dean Cadillac ever since they first came out and the reviews here. I can tell you I am so far not disappointed at all - on the contrary, I'm extremely satisfied!
Features:
Dean cadillac Select 2006, mahogany body and neck, highly figured quilted venner carved maple top in trans amber burst, rosewood fretboard with abalone block inlays, tune-o-matic bridge, grover tuners, 2 Dean high output humbuckers, 2 volumes, 2 tones (push-pull) and 3-way pick-up selector and 24-3/4 scale length.
I find this gutar to be very versatile due to the push-pull tones. I'm used to play 5-way selector equipped guitars and never really cared for a 3-way selector, but with the push-pulls it adds many different sound possibilities, better than a 5-way, at least to my ears.
For the price, it's a tremendous guitar - fantastic cost/benefit ratio.

Before anything, sound and tone are very particular things...so the opinions below are based on my personal preferences, of course. That being said, I've been playing some pretty great gear for the past 30+ years and know good tone and sound.
I play mostly hard blues, classic rock and hard rock. This guitar suits me perfectly. I play through a Laney LC30 and a THD BiValve and I believe it's capable of just about any tone I'm in the mood for, as it performed pretty wel for its first test drive.
I originally had plans to upgrade th pick-ups to Duncans JB and 59, but the stock ones sound pretty good, so I can wait or not even bother.
I also purchased a Kahler 2200 tremolo bridge, as I prefer tremolo equipped guitars, however, after playing this Caddy for a couple of hours, I'm having second thoughts about it. It sounds trully amazing just the way it is.
Both pick-ups are very hot and powerfull. I played this guitar throught the Laney and the high input was a bit much with these pick-ups when I use the drive channel. I had to plug it into the low, otherwise the tone would moosh a bit (this is actually a tip in the Laney's manual when using very hot pick-ups on the drive channel...).
The bridge is loud and stinging, great for over the top solos. The neck pck up has one of the fattest tones I've ever heard, reminiscent of the solo on "Silence is broken" (Damn Yankees). Tapping the coils and selecting both pick-ups I found a great blues tone both for rhythm and solos. This is no tele, but the tone of the bridge pick-up tapped comes pretty closed to it.
All in all, it simply sounds great, even compared with top priced pro guitars - I can compare it to my Tom Anderson Drop Top T and PRS Custom 22 and this one is right up there.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

This guitar came with a great set up job from the store (inclded in the price), so the action was perfect right out of the box. The finish is flawless, except for a very thin spot missing in one of the control cavities in the back. Other than this, perfect!
Aside from the little spot mentioned above, these guitars come with .009 gauge strings and, for a 24-3/4" scale length, they are too slinky - I play .009's on all my other guitars, but they're all 25-1/2" scale, which suits it fine. That being said, even though the strings feel slinky, I kinda enjoyed, at first, the feel of this gauge for this scale length. The playing was effortless and bends a breaze...
The neck is pretty flat. I'm not sure about its radius (I'm trying to get more specifics on the Dean Forum), but it's probably a 13" or 14" radius from what I can tell (let's see if I'm right :)
Reliability/Durability

I've been playing for about 30 years. I've own many guitars, but only one of them is still with me. I am simply amazed that Dean can make such a high quality instrument for this price and would recommed everyone looking for a great guitar to at least check one out - I thin you will not be disappointed.
In fact, I was on the process of selling my Tom Anderson anyway and will probably get another one of these (I'll install the Kahler on that one).
If it were lost or stolen, I'd get a new one.
To me, if it had a floyd or Kahler from factory it woul dmake it complete, but it's fantastic as is, especially for the price paid.

Suits my music style just fine. I will replace the pick ups with a set of Duncan black backs from Ed Roman, however I can't believe how much better this guitar sounds over my other one (Jackson soloist). This might be because I was stuck in a metal/thrash mode for the past few years and am finally opening up a little. The Jackson was fine for that. Over all I am still like a kid in a candy store when I get ready to plug this one in!! I think it is a bit on the bright side, but still messing around with the push/pull pots. The afore mentioned Black backs might cure this too.

It was set up perfectly by Ed Roman's guitars and I can't find a flaw worthy of mentioning for a guitar under $540 (with shipping and set up). Well worth the long wait to get it (1 month) I think this guitar is so much more amazing looking than my soloist. The binding is flawless and the finish is virtually flawless. Beautiful Amberburst Quilt!!!

this is a late 2005/early 2006 model that came with a unique classic white finish and multi-ply black & white binding around the body and headstock. It is a set-neck (mahogany body & neck with carved maple top and rosewood fingerboard), 24 3/4" scale, two gold-covered humbuckers (samshin?), and gold Grover's and tune-o-matic style bridge & tailpiece. A truss rod wrench was included. This guitar has push-pull coil-taps in the two tone controls.
Sound
:

The guitar has a sound that is very-METAL and hard-rock, and the clean sound is wonderous, with either or both pickups. Sustain is excellent on this guitar. The coil-taps work fine. The pots's don't crackle. The pickups have a lot of noise in single-coil mode, less noise in HB mode, and the least noise when both p'up's are on. Using this guitar with no effects through my 50 watt Randall RH50T tube head and a 2x12 cab, I pretty much rule the universe using the overdrive channel on "classic high-gain" setting. I play death/thrash/black/prog/industrial metal mostly. This Dean is great for this music, but can also do blues, jazz, and all forms of overplayed-I've-heard-it-all-before-classic-rock. The "9" would've been a 10 if the pickups were less noisy.

Low action, strung with .010-.046 Daddario strings, and it was either set-up at the factory, or by the dealer. Perfect intonation. No buzzing or high frets. This is the first guitar I've ever bought that was THIS GOOD out-of-the-box. Flaws? A tiny discolored spot on the neck (tiny blue dot). I think it's gone now 'cause I think I wore it off last night playing for two hours.

Been playing since the late 1970's, mostly cheaper bolt-on neck guitars. This set-neck guitar is a breath of fresh air. If it were lost or stolen, I'd definitely get another one just like it, after making sure the party that stole or lost it was properly incinerated.
Black hardware instead of the gold-plated type would've been preferred, but I'll not pick nits about that. I can get the "proper hardware" anyway.

This is not a USA guitar, not sure of origin, Korea maybe? Neck is of an average not too thick/not too thin profile. This guitar sounds really awesome, seriously, way better than a lot of guitars in this price range. I wouldn't be wary of using this around people with more expensive gear because there's just not really any fault with it. I play metal about 90% of the time (yeah yeah, I know, no one outside of metal really cares!!! hehe), and the other 10% of the time rockier, bluesy type stuff and the odd bit of anything else that takes my fancy at the given moment in time, and i really don't have any problems finding appropriate tones for all of those situations, although i'm not as crazily tone-accurate as some people, hehe! I'm playing this through Marshalls, has that classic Les Paul/Marshall type of tone going on, maybe a tad less bass-heavy with a tad more mid-range crunch, definitely lighter than any Les Pauls i've held. Has less of a compressed tone than a lot of modern guitars, more of a raw, crunchy type of tone, but with more richness and fullness from the mahogany body and neck than say from an alder bodied superstrat styled guitar. Unplugged the guitar resonates very nicely. I stood next to my 100 watt Marshall TSL on the lead channel and turned the amp up to 5 with all guitar controls on 10, no microphonic feedback, obviously a little buzzier than say an EMG loaded guitar, but this lends itself to the less-compressed/more raw style of tone that the guitar oozes. I can get that classic Hammett Fade To Black style lead tone from the neck pickup, and the bridge pickup does a killer mid 80's style maiden crunch! (Think Powerslave!) Basically, for blues/rock/metal style tones, I've had no problems, and although i'm not as dedicated to being as tone faithful as a lot of people, it sounds fine for other styles too, sounds good clean too (a rarity on a lot of modern guitars).

Action nice and low, neck a breeze to play on. Pickups were fine, volume is balanced when changing pickups. Finish is fine, no flaws. No hardware flaws. Not meaning to sound biased, hehe! The guitar just came fine with no flaws. The way it should be!

I've not had the guitar for a great deal of time, and i bought it new, so i cannot comment on this section to be fair. There's no real worries i have for it's future, although watch out with that headstock when walking through doorways! Could give your guitar nasty damage!

I've been playing for around 6-7 years, i'm not professional (yet!), just for a hobbie at this moment in time. I own an Ibanez 1983 Rocket Roll Flying V guitar and this guitar, play them through Marshalls (TSL100 and Mini-Stack), when i use pedals i use a Boss SD-1 and a Dunlop Wah. I had a few months to research into which guitar i would like before i purchased this, so i bought this knowing it had everything i was looking for. If it was stolen i'd definitely buy another. This guitar has the added bonus of not being a crazily high priced USA series guitar that you're scared to play on or take anywhere, whilst at the same time sounding high-class. If they did another model with a tremelo, say a floyd rose, this guitar could have the potential to be THE guitar for a whole lot of people! Sounds great for metal, and can clean up well at the same time, how many guitars can do that!

Stock pickups sound simply amazing. I thought I was going to have to change them when I ordered it but they blew me away. This guitar is great for all kinds of music, sounds as good if not better than my stock Les Paul that I paid 4X as much for! Sounds great with my Line 6 HD147.

Action was just a tad high out of the box but that was easily fixed in about 5 min. Pickups were a little high and the strings would touch when I palm muted, but again fixed in under a minute. Guitar now plays better than my $2000 Les Paul Standard! Finish is beautiful, I don't usually like quilt style tops but this one is killer, looks so good hanging next to my LP. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the look of the zebra pickups, but I can just get some covers for them, so I won't deduct any points for that.

Guitar appears to be very durable, and I won't have to baby this one as much as my LP if I were to do a gig. This can be my main axe and if it were lost or stolen it's definetly cheap enough to replace. It doesn't seem like it will dent as easily as my Les Paul and that is a very good thing.

I have been playing for almost 2 years without any lessons and I would say for that time I am pretty damn good. I know alot about guitars its my true love, and I know what I like, and I really like this guitar ALOT! This thing will go up against anything you can throw at it and definetly hold its own. This guitar is without a doubt the best guitar in its price range, and I would even go as far as saying it rivals top end guitars such as Gibson, PRS, high end Fenders, anything this guitar is amazing, I am now switching from a Gibson player to a DEAN player, although there is one more Les Paul I would like to acquire, Les Paul Standard Limited Edition Manhattan Midnight finish, oh and Zakk Wylde Camo Bullseye. But after getting this one yesterday, I've already decided to go for another Dean, ML Select or Exotica acoustic(Dean makes beautiful acoustics).

Bought in 2003, probably made in Korea considering the price ($400).
With 22 frets, arched maple top, 2 volume and tone controls(plus 3-way selector), my Caddy Select is a standard Dean Cadillac Select(for more specs. check out: http://www.deanguitars.com/cadillac_select.htm).
Sound
:

Plugged in a Line6 Spider 212 the sound is thick, tough and raw (but thats mainly because of the amp). I consider the Dean Cadillac Select as a 'standard' electric guitar, but its a beauty nonetheless. I usually use my Bridge pickup because i find the neck pickup to bass-y, but no matter wich pickup you choice; at high volume they start to sqeawl, wich means a noisegate is required at such volumes (I have another Dean with EMG's and the noise is significatly reduced).

The neck of thuis guitar is amazingly well put together. the Cadillac Select has a neckthough and playing it is like stroking your wee-wee: Tender and satisfying. lol.
The body and bridge on the other hand, seem to be a little off-symmetry. Also i would out that when using the jack plug for a number of times, it seems to unscrew itself and fall off... w'oops. This ofcourse, can be screwed back on(more tightly).

The strapbutton is at a better position, comparing it with other guitars, because it is located at the back/end of the neck. It's hard to explain but it means i can do all kinds of acrobatic stunts without the strap ever falling off from it's button. At home, At rehearsals, at gigs, studio... This guitar can handle it.

My 2nd guitar was a Dean VX, i replaced the Dean Zebra pickups with EMG's. When i bought this guitar (3rd) it had the same Zebra Pickups... and exctually it was more to my liking! The Caddy it damn great to play, much easier to do A.H. for example but that's probably just personnal. And last but not least... the Cadillac looks bloody cool (check pic on: http://www.deanguitars.com/cadillac_select.htm).
The only thing that would make it ever more cooler, would be a tremolo (Bigbsy!) Oh well, this'll do.

I'm guessing it's a 2004 or maybe a left over 2003.It is June of 04'and I just bought it brand new so...whatever.I've been sick of worrying about my $2500.00 Les Paul custom at gigs,so i went on the search for something that I wouldn't sweat if it got scewed up at a gig.I still wanted the basic Les Paul feel and style and thats what I got.The coil taps are SWEET,the dual zebra humbuckers are very Gibson490r/498t like in their tone and output, perfect. All Mohagany body with a REAK Quilted Maple top, almost 3/4 inch thick. Its lighter than my LP Custom but I think every other guitar is also, including that 5 neck monstrosity that Rick Nielson plays.I bought this 'cause it has the block inlays like my Custom.Iwas looking at Agiles and the inlays were the deciding factor, not very scientific but it worked for me.The neck is fine, right in the middle, not too fat,not too thin,I prefer bigger but this is fine.

I had all kinds of plans for upgrades but damn,it sounds sweet. The coil taps were not a factor for me,but now that I have them I use them all the time.I mainly use Peavey XXL 1/2 stack and XXL combo for smaller gigs, they are THE Best gigging mans amps in the world.I play everything from GooGoo Dolls to Godsmack and this $400.00 guitar works and sounds every bit as good as my $2500.00 LP Custom. We do The Rain Song sometimes and When I played it on the Caddy with both coils tapped and both pickups at 1/2 volume I got chills.I know Page used the Double neck SG and he played it on the six string side,he must have had coil taps on that as well as his 58'Paul.I only use a couple of pedals and I can get whatever sound i want(XXL):-)The headstock is a bitch,it seems like a guided missle to anything within 3 feet of you,I keep whacking my mic stand and the lead singer too,(not really a bad thing):-)

Bought this new 2004, made in Korea. Paid 389.00 on Ebay. Veneer top, beautiful Tiger eye finish, but I wonder about the quality, not a lot of depth in the finish. The neck however is top notch, very smooth. Frets are finished nicely-- no dead spots or glitches. Intonation was perfect out of the box. Grover tuners are unlike any I have ever encountered--1/6 turn at times with no change in pitch? Will probably trash them soon.

Pickups are standard Deans--not great, not bad. I run them straight thru my Boss Gt6 into a digital recorder and get just about any sound I want. Neck pickup sounds very good with clean settings. Bridge pickup is ordinary--I prefer EMG 81's.

Own many guitars, US BC Rich Mockingbird, Gibson Les Pauls, Moonstone Explorer, Hamer, etc. Always wanted a Caddy since I first saw it in the early 80's-- In my opinion, for the price this Caddy costs, a little $ spent on hardware, it would definitely rival some of my other axes. All in all, money well spent.

2003 Select (means made in Korea) Caddies. The features have been pretty well covered. These guitars are laminated-topped, highly figured and arched, GREAT looking instruments! All mahogany...multi-pieced bodies and spliced necks which keeps the price lower. Mine are Tiger Eye and Amber Quilt finishes. Both are just amazing and everyone who sees them (non Deaners) think they are $2000.00 guitars!). Grover tuners which drip quality, Tune-O-Matics and thick Zebra humbuckers. Sustain and Tone...Tone...Tone! The neck is a very familiar feeling size (see below) with a fairly flat fretboard radius. Maybe 12? I ordered the hardshell cases because Cadillacs are not the most popular guitars and if they decide to stop making them, custom-fit cases may be hard to find. I give them a 9 for the coil-taps which make these guitars very versitile.

When I first plugged these guitar in, I was just amazed! I have played Telecasters for years and actually sold my three Tele's to buy these two Caddy's sight unseen and unplayed! Call me crazy. Back in the eighties, I fell in love with Dean Cadillacs but figured I would never have one. Then they were not made anymore and I wrote them off. After searching the internet, because it was time to shake things up, I discovered that Dean had joined the ranks of other guitar manufacturers and was building guitar in Korea which said to me...affordable!
I have played guitar for over 20 years and have owned many great guitars. Including Les Pauls, SGs, Strats, Gretches, Teles, Carvins, etc. I play a lot of rock music...all kinds. Tom Petty to Blink 182. Skynard to Gear Daddies.
These caddies will do it all! With the coil taps, you can play anything you want too. I still can't believe the versitility of these guitars! The sound will blow you away. After reading these reviews, I saved a little money to replace the Zebra pickups but I've had both of these guitars for a month now and well...I spent my pickup money on other things. These pickups seem to work just fine and I'm still finding intresting sounds every time I play.

These caddies came set up with 9's and I just can't play strings that are that light. I changed them out to 11-48's, adjusted the neck and string height and now I rock all night! After years playing Tele's, I was hoping for a more Les Paul-like action and feel. Well, that's what I got! Perfect feel. I knew that if I compared this guitar to a Telecaster, I would not be happy because I was so used to playing c-shaped, 9.5 radius necks. To my suprise, the caddies are lighter then my Tele's! The neck feels VERY familiar and although the fingerboard is much flater, it seems comfortable and easy to play.
The finishes on these guitars is flawless and amazing! If you're lucky enough to hold one of these before you buy it, you'll probably say what I said..."I hope these play like they look!" They do!

Very solid construction! Don't bang that big ol' headstock around and don't beat up that beautiful finish! When you hold these guitars, they just feel like quality. I would trust them anywhere. I can go out to my guitar room after three days and pick up either one and strum an E chord in perfect tune! Even my Tele's needed a little retune!
I installed strap locks strait out of the box...I always do. I may move the back strap button to the upper horn just to get it out of the way, but that's minor stuff.

I plug these Caddy's into a Pignose tube head running a 4x10 Carvin cabinet. I use a Morley wah, TS9, Daddy-O, Ice Box chorus running strait in, and a Cool Cat in the effects loop. I REALLY liked this set-up with my Tele's and thought that I would have to hunt for a good sound with the Deans, but my rig just sounded better then ever and I keep getting compliments on my tone. Not my playing, my tone! The clean tones, with the Cool Cat still amaze me! I like to clean things up by tapping the neck pickup, turning the neck volume down about half, run both pickups with the bridge cranked up, through the Cool Cat. Sweet Petty sounds.
I would definatly buy these two guitars again if stolen. They seem to fit me and they are totally different while being familiar! Can't beat the price for this kind of quality either!
I looked at ESP, Gibson, Schecter, and Fernandes...like I said, I was really looking for a change! The Dean name had meant quality and workmanship from day one. They have the hottest guitar chicks around, and the Cadillac is just the SWEETEST guitar body made! Not to mention that totally kick-ass head stock!!
Play one and find out what you are missing. I would really like to play the more expensive modles as a comparison, because I can't imagine a better plaing guitar at any price.

the one i purchased is a 2003 caddy select with the red sunburst finish, flamed maple top. made in Korea. the usual, mohagony, contoured body, 22 frets, 2 humbucking stock dean p/u's with 3 way selector and a coil tap feature., tune-o-matic bridge, gold hardware. it's like a cross between an explorer and a les paul, a lesplorer. i give this guitar a 9 in this category because it has a ton of features but not EVERTHING. i also don't like to give out 10's unless they truely, truely deserve it. when some company builds a guitar that has EVERYTHING and gives blowjobs, wipes your ass and can make you a sandwich then they will truely, truely deserve a 10.

i play everything from jazz to fuckin' metal and this guitar delivered. i am using this thing thru a fender hot rod deville(i'll get my stack when i'm playing arenas),a big fuckin' muff( i prefer the big green russian machines), an electric mistress, a dunlop rotovibe and a dunlop wah. the pick-ups were all right. i actually used it for a while with the stock pick-ups. they made the dean sound sound fatter and hotter than my les paul standard which has vintage 60's paf's. eventually changed pick-ups to dimarzio paf's. i am a seymore duncan man myself but i was broke and all i had lying around were those. actually made the dean sound a lot better. it sounds great but put in some paf's and you are in les paul territory. when run through my set up this thing stepped up and delivered. running the dean through my amp on clean i got some really great clean sounds. the neck pickup sounded nice and warm but gave a nice little bite when i hit the string harder. the bridge pickup sounded VINTAGE when i rolled off the volume to about 6. when i put the amp to overdrive, this thing ROCKED. my amp doesn't get the best overdrive sound but with a great guitar like this dean or my paul, you get CLASSIC FUCKIN' ROCK. AC/DC, Led Zep, the sound is there. notes sustain like they should and i get feed back only when i want it.(if you can't control your feedback that's your problem). when i kick in the big muff all fuckin' hell breaks loose. it's like getting your sound and dropping a hydrogen bomb on it. the dean took the sonic punishment and asked for more, just like a ten dollar whore. this guitar is great, it sounds full and is solid, just think les paul. the pick-ups come tapped. you tap them with the push/pull tone pots for treble and neck. it is a nice and useful function that gives this guitar even more tonal variety. when tapped you do lose some volume(expected) but the sound is well, strat like.

i bought this guitar on ebay. it came properly intonated for the 10's that came with it. i immediately changed strings to ghs 11's and intonated for 11's. i was able to get low action only after i minorly adjusted the truss rod. the action is great now. real low and no buzzing on any frets. great job. all the frets were perfect and after adjusting the truss rod to compensate for the 11's the neck is pretty much how i like it, straight with ever the slightest bow. this guitar pretty much plays like a paul, which is why i bought it. the action is low, playing smooth and fast, although it is not as fast as my paul, which has a 60's slim taper neck. the guitar cosmetically was flawless. the finish was perfect. the binding was perfect. the burst was perfect. i know that people talk shit about guitars that are not american made but this is a great quality guitar. i opened the thing up to see how it was constructed and it was beautifully done. i did not find one thing wrong with my guitar. the gripe i had was not a flaw but the fact that the pickup selector was located at the cutaway and since that is the part that is shaped like an explorer, it is kind of out there and makes it difficult for quick pickup switching in a middle of a song which i do often.

i have played with this guitar live for about 3 months now and this guitar is rock solid. i jump around and it stays in tune. it has not fucked up on me in any way yet. the hardware has the gold starting to fade already which is kind of quick but i don't mind because it looks cooler that way. i moved the strap button that was on the back of the guitar to the side right above the neck where it should be. it feels better now and i also replaced the buttons with schaller strap locks 'cause one time is all it takes and crash! you got a neck split in two and splintered. i never gig without a back-up. i alternate playing shows with the dean as my main or my paul as my main. i rated this category a 7 because it is too soon to give a proper response. i'll get back to you in a couple of years.

Now i alternate between my paul and this dean being my main and the other my backup. i still won't take my paul out to certain shows only because it is a vintage paul and it is my first true guitar that i bought for myself and relearned how to play on. this guitar is a great guitar, i like the headstock and the shape and it sounds fuckin' awesome. yeah my les paul is better and if you got $2000 to spend yeah go get a les paul, but for the price, you will not get a better deal than this dean. it far exceeds any other guitar in it's price range or above it. i would rather spend $500 on a dean than $600, $700, $800 or even $900 on a fender, music man or any other guitar out there. hands down, this dean caddy will kick your ass.

This is a Korean made Les Paul style guitar with a quilt-amber-bust veneer finish. It has a medium weight mahogany body and neck and carved maple top. Standard Les Paul controls with push-pull coil taps switches in the tone pots. It came with Zebra humberkers. (The ones with the "Dean" logo; not Duncans.) Grover Tuners. Don't let the "Made in Korea" stamp fool you; except for the pickups which suck, this is a high quality, well made guitar.

There no way around it, the pickups SUCK. I've been playing professional quality guitars for over 20 years and I don't believe most of the hype put out by pickup manufacturers. But these really SUCK BAD! However, if that's how Dean manages to sell such a otherwise high-quality guitar for such a low price, I don't mind replacing the pickups. I replaced the pickups with my favorite set: Seymour Duncan Distortions (4 conductors) w/gold covers. Now this guitar sounds more like a Les Paul than my Epi Les Paul Standard.
And much better craftmanship to boot!

The only problem I've had with this guitar is that the intonation was so far off, I had to take it back to the shop for set up. I'm still making tweaks to the intonation here and there but it's much better than before. The fret job rivals an American made Les Paul.
This guitar far surpases most Korean made guitars I've seen. The action is low, the neck feels wonderful, the body is extremely resonate, producing great sustain. The finish is simply beautiful.

this guitar is worth serious consideration. It's better built than an Epiphone Les Paul, it looks oncredible and with new pickups it sounds damn good. I'm very satisfied with this guitar.

Mine is a Dean European Custom Caddy Select (made in Czechoslavkia). Its got pretty much all of the same features as the Time Capsule Caddy, but I like the curved body a hell lot more than a flat body. I have some Duncans in my guitar instead of the DiMizaro's or Zebra's and i have to admit they let the distortion scream. Usually I find myself using the bridge pickup because i like the sound of it with hard rock and metal solos. But I have found that the neck pick up is very good for a deep bluesy sound. The bridge is a tune-o-matic but the strings that the guitar came with went out of tune pretty easy.

This guitar really has the sound that i had been looking for. It can scream with distortion and still have a good clean sound. Also I find it good for SRV songs and blues in general. I play out of a Line 6 Spider 212 and I can get the sound to vary from SRV to Clapton to Metallica to Chili peppers. I'd really reccomend this guitar to a hard rock guitarist because it just has a real full sound and it can scream as well as most guitars out their for solos.

My guitar is a factory second. There was a problem with the switch at first, it would only let me get the neck pick up, but i went to the shop and it works fine now. But the main reason why it was a factory second was because of a mere lacquer crack on the back. Outside of that crack (which is pretty hard to see even when you look for it) this guitar is a piece of art. The ebony fretboard and Alabone inlay are incredible. The head stock has grown on me, and the body of the guitar is pretty much a black beauty gibson with a harder edge to it. I love it.

I have been playing for a little over two years now therefore my guitar collection isnt too big, a Standard Stratocaster. I own a Line 6 Spider 212 and the floorboard for it. If this guitar were stolen it would not be a very bright time in my life, I would probably try and buy it again but i know i wouldn't find a deal like i got again. What i love about this guitar is that it just lets me rock out, when i put my amp on the Marshall setting i get that pure old classic rock sound going. What i love about the guitar is its just overall great sound, it sounds better than it looks (and it looks pretty damn good). I have compared it to a custom strat and an Epiphone Custom LP and I knew that my guitar sounded alot better. Theres really nothing more i could ask from this guitar.

I've been playing guitar (all styles) for 31 years. I use pro equipment. (Fender Amps, Roland GX700 processor, etc.)
I've owned 5 Deans so I knew what to expect from these guitars. As expected, the stock pickups on this are extremely powerful, and excellent for metal, thrash or any distorted sound. But they lack the tonal qualities which make a good, versatile guitar pickup capable of covering jazz and blues sounds as well as rock. However, I must say that the bridge pickup on this guitar is better than the Seymour Duncan JB and the Duncan Distortion simply because it has the bite of a JB and more power than the Duncan Distortion. (Disclaimer: I've never been totally satisfied with any bridge humbucker.)
Anyway, when I buy a new Dean I usually replace the humbuckers with Duncans, but this time I did something different. I was so overwhelmed by the beautiful amber-burst finish on the guitar that I had to see what it looked liked with gold pickup covers. I installed gold pickup covers and to my surprise the covers coupled with mahogany body and the maple top was just enough to mellow out the tone. It's more Les Paulish than before, but not muddy. In single coil mode, I can do stuff that I thought only may strat was capable of. I'm not totally convinced that pickup covers over the stock pickups are the answer, but I'm going to put it through some serious tests before I go and spend $160 on a set of Duncans.

The action was very low when it came from the factory, I was able to get it lower. The strings sucked, I had to change them immediately.
Otherwise I found this guitar to be practically flawless.
Even though the quilt finish is a venier, this guitar is one of the must beautiful guitars I've ever owned. Korean or not, this guitar is also one of the best made guitars I've ever owned. I can't find anything wrong with it! I can't say that about my Les Paul Standard or my Mexican Strat.

I changed the strap buttons to Dunlop Strap Locks simply because the positioning of the strap button on the neck heal is an ancident waiting to happen. Otherwise this is a very solid guitar, as is all my other Dean Guitars. Of course any good musician needs a backup.

I hate to give a guitar such a high rating (since Dean isn't paying me.) but this guitar deserves it. If you just gotta pay $1800+ for a Les Paul and look like everyone else on stage, go for it. But you can spend $400, plus another $160 for pickups and come out with a better guitar for much less money. If you can deal with people complimenting the guitar more than they do you or your playing ability, this is the guitar.

I actually found the Dean Pickups to be quiet good.Although there is some room for improvment.A set of Duncans or DiMarzios would complete this Guitar.I use Marshall & vox tube Amps so the tone is based on these Amps.I play Blues & Rock and this guitar fits these two styles very well. But overall for the price paid these are decent usable pickups.

The Cherry Sunburst finish on this Guitar is amazing.Perfectly blended red and yellow. And the Flame maple top blew me away.I have never seen a top this nice at this price level. Most Guitar companies would call this a AAA Top.Very nice Body and Neck Binding as well. The Dealer set-up the Guitar with GHS 10's so it played very nice when purchased. The feel of the Guitar reminds me of my Historic Gibson 54 Les Paul with a slimmer neck.

I bought this Guitar to take to Gigs, Jams ,rehersal etc.So I wouldnt have to worry about my Les paul getting ripped off.I started looking for a Inexpensive main Guitar back in January at the NAMM show.So I spent a good 9 months making sure I bought the right Guitar. The Dean Caddy was the right chioce for me.It looks like it was built very Rock solid."This ain't your Daddy's Korean Guitar".

As stated before I spent a good 9 months playing a lot of Guitars in the $600.00-800.00 dollar range. And I felt this was by far the best playing & looking Guitar for this price range. The quality of this Korean Guitar is superb far better than any other I could Find. I play mostly Blues and was looking for something different I have gotten tired of hearing and seeing the same Guitars Strats, Teles and Pauls. It is my main Axe and Have played it without a backup with great results. It plays and feels like my Historic Les paul at less than 4X the cost. All I can say is check it out yourself and see if is right for you.

New 2001 Model made in Korea. 22 frets, quilted maple top (7 or 8 out of 10), Nice burst finish, 2 Volume, 2 Tones, 3 way selector, 2 Passive Dean(?) Humbuckers, Mahogany Body and set neck, Non-locking Grover tuners, Thin neck (similar to double cut away les paul). For body style think pointy les-paul.

So far I like the sounds of the stock pick-ups but I will probably replace with Duncan's at some point. Both pickups are humbuckers so they're not noisy and so far not microphonic either. The pickups seem to have pretty high output and I like that.

It was set-up pretty well actually. It will need minor (very minor) tweeks. The strings were good and low (maybe too low). It came with 9's and I'll probably replace those with 10's. The 9's feel too slinky for this guitar. The top and finish are great...beautiful. This was by far the prettiest guitar in the store. I found one minor flaw in the finish which was just a small speck.

I have not had it long enough to tell so far. It seems to be made well though. It does have gold hardware so it will probably tarnish after some playing but that's OK.

I have been playing for about 14 years and I also own a couple of Gibson Les-Pauls and a Washburn Dimebag 333, as well as a few not worth mentioning. I was amazed at the price that I purchased this instrument. Actually, I was more like stunned. I had no idea a person could purchase such a high quality guitar at such a low price. I'm ashamed that I payed $1400 for a Gibson Les-Paul. This guitar has EVERYTHING the Les-Paul has. The only thing the Les-Paul has over the Dean is the pick-ups and that alone doesn't justify the price difference. I will NEVER buy another Gibson now that I've found Dean. I just really can't say enough good stuff about this instrument. Just go find one and play it. Pictures don't them justice.

Just got it but at first try I think the pickups might just work for me. Blues & rock run thru a LINE 6 flextone &floorboard gives a gibson sound and thats not bad.

Got it from ed roman, just as a shipment arrived .Came with 9s got to have 10s. the guitar came well packed and in perfect condition, excellant korean workmanship but thats not unusual in the higher end models but you have to be lucky or careful toget a good one. That can also be said for USA guitars!I got a good one from ed,and its nice and quiet.

Pretty well built, but not the biggest guitar in the pack.Gold always wears off but only when you use them. I would never gig with one axe.Seems to have a nice amber burst finish, that should hold up.Its a cute guitar.

BOdy seems to be made of nice tone wood exceptional for the price paid. Pickups are dime store variety but not micro phonic or any problems. I will be installing Dimarzio PAF PRO's in the near future. Dont sound bad considering the pickups. Playing through a Peavey 50 watt tweed classic, marshall 4/12, Quadraverb, 1969 vintage CRY BABY, sometimes use an old Boss OD unit for extra push. will probably score much higher once I install my favorite pickups.

Needed slight bridge adjustment for the action, intonation very good, but I always do my own set-up on new guitars (20 years experience. Beutifull quilted top nice five layer binding, nice even and very transparent clear coat, neck releif was perfect, nut fit and cut very well. I was very impressed, I ordered this guitar from ed roman and it exceeded my expectations.

To early to tell but appears to be very well constructed, will take it out often. But I never gig with out a back-up no matter if primary axe is a Gibson, Fender or what.

I have been playing for 25 + years, I researched price and back ground on this model, I consider this a very good by, I found some stores selling this model with quilt top for as much as 600.00 to 700.00 dollars, so I found Ed Roman to be the best place to buy. I had never done busines with him before but I found his word to be good! I would recomend this guitar to anyone! I would also suggest to everyone to check out his web site alot of good info, not just sales propaganda. I would definetly would want it back if stolen, My only complaint is the pickups but I would not be satisfied with any Mahogany body guitar until I installed my favorite pickups (PAF PRO. Therefore I tend to rate overall a little bit lower.
