All the spec??s of this guitar are pretty good described, but bought this one used, it??s from 2003 I guess.
It??s the black finish version, the bridge PU is changed with a dimebucker, but the ****ty LFR is still in use.
Features are all I need, the gotoh FR for a swap is on arrival.

Sound : 10
The sound is very nice in clean tone as in distorted sounds, love the dimebucker, has a very aggressive sound when gained.
Very broad range of sounds can be dailed in, very versitale guitar.
This Beast is tuned down to drop Cis and I love like she scream during Dive Bomb Madness.
The overall quality of the LFR is just O.K.. I saw better LFR, but also badder variations......

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
As I mentioned this guitar was bought used, the bridge pick up was swapped by the pre owner he did a good solder job every thing is clean and look professional, the vibe/sustain of this guitar is extreme outstanding for a guitar with FR.
I make on every guitar that hits my way, my own set up, for tune(dropped),intonation, and all this stuff.
The LFR is not good, but not bad as described by the most guys hear, I think most people that shouting against it, are just didn??t have a enought aknowledge to handle that.
When I got this beast, it was tuned standard E, it just took me 25 minutes to make a whole set up down to dropped Cis, including intonation(saddle adjust)and spring adjust...etc.

WTF! You guys shut Ur mouth, If U just can??t handle that, play fixed bridges.

But I bought a gotoh FR on the bay, and will changed it, just for the LFR quality issue.

Reliability/Durability : 8
The only thing I need to change by the building quality is the LFR, but I always change the FR??s on guitars, if they got a ping LFR.
Most people here say the knife edges worn out fast, that??s bull****.
If u want to tune a FR, U first have to unscrew the fine tuners till the knifes are loose, than start to tune with the headstock tuners, after that lock the nut and than start to set it up with the fine tuners.
If your FR get out of tune check the spring tension U retards.
I will gig with this, I don??t need a back up, but I have so many great guitars and they are all worthy to be shown in public/in front of a crowd that shout..;-)

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with......changed to DBZ own a Bird of Prey, and it kicks every dean guitars ***......

Overall Rating : 10
For the price this guitar is awesome, love the sustain, the whole neck start to vibrate when i??m playing on her she ??s abeauty and beast in one.
Love it, for people who can handle FRs it??s a real shot, for the others, If U can handle it don??t **** around here.
Make Ur homeworks !!!Retards!!!

2006 model. Refer to the other reviews for the rest. I'll only add that the finish on this guitar is stunning, and makes it appear far more spendy than it is.

Sound : No Opinion
Play classic rock and blues-jazz. This guitar sounds killer for classic rock, it has sustain for weeks, and the mahogany gives it an amazing tone. Reminds me, in this regard, of my Gib GoldTop, as weird as it sounds. The sound is rounded and full, with harmonic richness that I find rare in any guitar. I know nothing about thrash/shredding, but I do worship Eddie and this thing sounds awesome on VH.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Spectacular to look at. Would not ever stay in tune when I got it. Pissed me off. Intonation was perfect, but the nut just wasn't holding. Then, one day, it was just gone. Stays in perfect pitch now, and my Floyd Rose works just as well as the one on my much spendier Wolfgang. Not sure what is different between mine and the others written about. Who knows. No fret buzz, nice tuning machines. Pickups look like cheap Dimarzio Super Distortions, but sound pretty darn good at the price.

Reliability/Durability : 9
No issues so far--seven months old.

Been playing for a million years. I hate it when people tell you every freaking interconnect they own, and what type of pick they prefer. Ridiculous. Suffice it to say, I have a bunch of guitars, some really expensive, some cheap. But I love playing this Dean. It is just plain fun. The sound is really quite amazing for my style of music, and, again, if I had to liken this guitar to another of mine, it is most like my Goldtop. And, btw, I disagree that it is light. It feels like a typical, heavy mahogany-mahogany instruments to me, but a little less than some Les Pauls. My favorite feature of it is the combination of the ridiculously fast neck, and the way it sounds while I'm cranking. One of the best buys I have ever made in music.

Dean ML79F. Made in Korea 2008. Brazillia burst finish with cream binding, cream/black zebra pickups, gold speed knobs, chrome hardware. Dean stock humbuckers, licensed Floyd. Mahogany body/neck w/ flamed maple top, rosewood fretboard w/ abalone fret markers. Series II gargantuan headstock. Double humbucker. Set neck. 24 3/4 inch scale, 1 11/16 nut, fat "D" neck. Grover tuners. A stunning guitar to look at.

Sound : No Opinion
"How does it suit your music style (and what is that style)?": A very versatile guitar that suits me perfectly. I play everything from Van Halen to Dimebag. Of course this is the ideal Dimebag guitar, but it's also ideal for getting that classic VH brown sound.

"What amps and effects are you using it with?": My primary amp is a Peavey 6505+, and my effects are basic via a G-Major.

"Rich/Full sound? Bright sound?": Absolute TONE! Great dark, mahogany, tone. The sustain is beautiful. For stock pups, they sound wonderful, and are very well matched for each other. I may at some point drop a new bridge pup in, but I have no complaints, other than the guitar over all is a tad noisy. I'll at least need to re-wire/solder everything.

"Likes and dislikes?": As I've already said, this guitar looks, plays, and sounds like a dream. I've finally found my dream guitar. Having said that, I'm about to rip Dean a new one so buckle up. It's been alluded to by other reviewers, but in my opinion, they've totally understated just how ****** the licensed Floyd is. I've owned lots of Floyd knock-offs, and they're all the same, after a good while of playing them, the knife edges eventually go dull and the tremolo ends up not quite returning to its zero position. This trem, however, was dull to an extreme right out of the box! It's by far the wort potted metal trem/nut I've ever seen. I own an Edge II trem on my Ibanez RG470FM. I thought that was but. Folks, let me tell you, this trem is FAR worse. Scratchy, wiggly fine tuners, a short arm, a crappy potted metal sustain block in the back. I bought the guitar in spite of this because if it came with an original Floyd, it'd be an $800 guitar, as opposed to $600, anyway. I strongly suggest anyone considering the 79F go ahead and buy an original Floyd and have it waiting for the arrival of the guitar. Other than than that, I absolutely love this guitar. It is a gorgeous instrument. Because the trem isn't at least enough to use until a new trem can be changed out, I give it a 9.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
"How well was the guitar set-up at the factory? (How was the action?": Thankfully, the truss-rod was set perfectly, but everything else needed to be done. No biggie, I do all that regardless.

"How well were the pickups adjusted?": Not well at all, but that's something easy to set.

"Properly book matched top?": Not very well, but it's a gorgeous maple top nonetheless.

"Did the guitar contain any flaws? (misaligned bracing, poorly filed fretwire, finish flaws, poor quality wood, rusted or oxidized hardware, loose tuning pegs, poorly cut nut, poorly fit saddle, noisy pickup selector, loose controls, etc...)": Other than a little too much noise from the wiring and the TOTALLY SHITTY TREM, the guitar is great.

Reliability/Durability : 10
"Will this guitar withstand live playing?": After dropping a decent trem into it, you're damn right it will. This thing is built to rock.

"Does the hardware seem like it will last?": Everything but the trem is very good quality.

"Is the finish good enough to last, or does it seem thin and easy to wear off with lots of playing?: A nice thick poly glossy finish. It'll go the distance.

"Are the strap buttons solid?": Hell yes.

"Can you depend on it?": Hell yes.

"Would you use it on a gig without a backup?" I would never be without a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
"If you've dealt with the company, how helpful/friendly were they? Ever try and get it repaired? Was it under warranty? How long is the warranty?": Never had to deal with them. I'm considering mailing them their shitty tremolo in a big pile of my feces. 5 Year limited warranty. I wonder if this trem is covered by it somehow.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
Been an Eddie Van Halen wannabe since 1980. In the last nearly 30 years, I've bought, sold, built, and ruined dozens of guitars. The Dean ML79F is now the very best of them all. I can't stress how pathetic the tremolo is, but other than than that, I can't recommend it enough either. If it were stolen, I'd replace it asap. In fact I'll likely get the stop-tail version soon. When shopping for this, I was looking for a solid mahogany set neck, Les Paul-ish guitar with a Floyd. I narrowed it down to the Schecter C-1FR Blackjack ATX and the Ibanez RG42DX. I'm so glad I chose the Dean.

lovely satin black finish, cream binding. ML 79 body style with the sieries 2 headstock (the bigger 1). its got solid grover machine heads and of curse a floyd rose tremlo. it is mahogany with a set mahogany neck, it has 22 frets and a D profiled neck so it is really comfortable. it has 2 zebra humbuckers and a voume for each and a master tone. 3-way selector. made in korea (ew)

Sound : 9
this guiar is great for all kinds of rock and metal. through a marshall amp it sounds amazing. it has a very deep tone even on the trebel pickup. it sounds quite nice on clean as well as with overdrive. it can do older metal such as slayer, metallica, anthrax... but its is also good for newer stuff like bfmv and trivium. and of course it sounds great playing PanterA riffs and solos. you do get a bit of an echo from the tremlo which is annoying sometimes when you're trying to mute the strngs but other than that its great.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
the guitar had a flawless finish, if i really had to complain there was a tiny little mark on the binding on the top of the body. the action was pretty nice but wasnt really low enough for really fast solos. it didnt take long to sort. the pickups were fine, but the selector was a bit noisy but ae flicking it a few times it calmed down. ive heard mixed things about the tremlo but i found it was set up perfectly, it was in tune when i got it out of the box. ive had it 2 weeks and only tuned it 1ce and yes i have been using the tremlo, alot. the tremlo was well routed. however being from korea there had to be something wrong; the top nut isnt flush to the neck and the jack plate wasnt aligned so only 2 of the 3 screws were in the body.

Reliability/Durability : 9
the guitar seems like it will stand the test of time, the finish seems thick, altough have already exposed the primer in 1 little point where the end of the tremlo bar hit the body. it should withstand live playing the tuning wll last perfectly with any amount of diving and thrashing. you may need to buy strap locks because of the postiions of the strap buttons. but yeh id gig with it without a backup, but 1st i need 2 find a case.

Customer Support : No Opinion
i havnt had to contact them but i can always take it back to where i got it to be set up for free

Overall Rating : 9
i have been playing for just over 2 years, and have played alot of (other peoples) guitars, and this 1 is the best ive played. i also own a red epiphone sg g400, and this guitar sounds alot better, even thought they are both made from the same wood and have set necks. its actually surprising how different they sound. i love the shape and he sustain, however the echo is annoying and the fret access isnt as good as the sg (although i dont think that would be possible for any guitar) but i dont think that matters 2 weeks with this guitar and if i lost it i would definatley buy another 1. i was looking around at jacksons and and other guitars with trmlos, but for its price range this is the best guitar i could find. its so comfortable to play. i would have liked it to come from somewhere better than korea tho.

I got the Trans Brazilla burst. Really a beatiful finish, especially for the price, in fact, i dont know why anyone would want to get black when you could get the burst! At any rate, its awesome to look at. The 22 frets are very nice, although one of mine I think has become slightly unseated, not a big problem though im pretty sure. Although it was made in Korea, it was still made quite well. The input jack does get loose sometimes, i think i striped the screw or something actually, not sure, i can be hard on things, but it doesnt really do it anymore. However, the only real downside is the floyd. i dont know if its just mine or everyones. The korean made ones arent that great, they go outta tune faster, i recommend getting an Original Floyd or maybe a Schaller, i think im gettin one. But man this axe totally kicks ass!

Sound : 10
The pickups are pretty nice for out of the factory, you can get some slammin metal tones although id like to get something a little more designed for metal in the bride, the neck is great though. But hey, they have to put in pick ups that suit everyone sometimes. The body resonates well in my opinion despite having the floyd(the floyd cuts down on body resonation and essential tone, just for anyone that doesnt know). But still it resonates well, has a bright sound and sounds good with no amp.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar needed a bit of a set up, the floyd need to be adjusted. Before the adjustment, it played, and after, holy S*&T man! it plays killer, seriously it plays better than Les Pauls in the 1000 dollar range. The bridge is routed well, although it is not the greatest. The finish is done very nicely, the top and bottom of it match nicely. The mahogony is very nice, and the set neck was done well, i can see some tiny little cracks from when i think it was drying, but it only goes through probably 3 layers of the finish and causes no problems.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Id jam this guit with no backup. Itll stand a beating and such although dont drop the headstock, the way there designed with the v could really split em or something. The finish does get fingerprints easily, some elbow grease and good polish will work for that, no big deal. A new floyd would be the only thing i say could improve on it. But the floyd shouldnt be to much of a problem either way.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I think i have a 5 year warranty, havent dealt with customer support.

Overall Rating : 9
I give this guitar a 9.5, only dropping off .5 for the floyd. Ive been playing 8 years, im only 16 but ive been through a fair amount of guitars and such, and this is one of the best guitars ive played. If it were stolen or lost, id kick some ass, and take it back.

22 frets
Trans Brazlia (absolutely beautiful)
Volume/Volume/Tone knobs & 3 way selector.
Humbucker / Humbucker configuration
Pickups made by Dean (Going to replace these with EMG 81/85 or DiMarzio X2N/Air Norton
Lisc. Floyd Rose
Grover Tuners / Locking nut
24.75 scale / Medium neck

Sound : 8
I play Death / Black / Thrash / Power / Prog types of metal, and this guitar suits it nicely. The pickups are the only downside of this guitar (they aren't the best suited for the listed genres)
No unwanted feedback
Very mid-filled tone
Wide array of guitar tones. Wonderful cleans, Great "classic rock" tone, 'OK' Metal tone.
Love the cleans on the stock pickups, but they don't really get the Metal tone I'm looking for - but that can be easily changed (new pickups)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Action was pretty well set-up. Slight buzzing on the low E string.
Pickups are at the perfect height.
No flaws that I have noticed.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Definitely a guitar that is built to last.
Finish is amazing - won't wear away under any normal surcumstances.

This guitar is absolutely amazing. the sustain is the best I have ever heard, and It probably beats a les paul easily. I play everything from blues to metal, and this guitar can do it all. The shape is great for me because I like to play classical style, but you can also play this one like an explorer. There is very little noise, and I'll probably change out the pickups. They'll do just fine for now though.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar came to me set up almost perfectly. great intonation, action was amazing, etc. I could go on forever about the action on this guitar. ITs absolutely amazing! The top is pretty well bookmatched, though not perfect. Close enough though.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar will not go out of tune. Ive had to tune it maybe 5 times in the few months Ive had it. The hardware is durable, but the allan keays that come with it aren't. the finish seems very durable, but little scratches are innevidible. I would feel completely comfortable using this guitar on a gig without a backup.

Customer Support : 10
Dean stands by their products. If there is any problem at all, they'll send you a new one. Dean Z wants you to be happy, and He'll do everything He can to make you satisfied with the product

Overall Rating : 10
Ive been playing for 5 years, owned almost a dozen guitars, and this one is by far the best. for the first time in my life, I have no GAS!!! Even if it wasn't stolen, I'll probably end up getting another sometime. There isn't one bad thing about this guitar (the pickups aren't the best, but they aren't bad either). I highly reccomend you check this guitar out, and give Tim @ Center Stage Music a call.

This review is based on a Korean made Dean ML-F 79' series guitar purchased sometime in late July 2005. This guitar features 22 jumbo frets resting on a rosewood fingerboard with beautiful abalone inlays and the solid mahogany body is laminated by a flame maple top. This transparent "Brasiliaburst" finished veneer is surrounded by aged cream binding. The mahogany neck is glued in and the inverted V headstock carries Grover made nickel tuners. A licensed Floyd Rose tremolo rests in the bridge and 2 open-coiled Korean made zebra humbuckers are linked to a three way selector switch, wired for a bridge only/both pickups/neck only operation. These are all controlled by three rotary knobs consisting of two volume and one master tone. Three hex keys were provided in the packaging for adjustments to the truss rod and floyd.

Sound : 8
Although I upgraded the bridge pickup later, the stock pickups that came with this guitar were surprisingly impressive with a variety of good tones on offer whether clean or driven. Infact, I was so happy with the neck pickup that kept it in place of my Seymour Duncan 59'! However, despite still being very good, the bridge pickup didn't quite pack the 'oomph' I was looking for as a thrash metal guitarist and was replaced with something more befitting to my tastes. The stock pups gave off no unwanted feedback or hum during their usage and I'm sure all you blues rockers out there will love them.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
This guitar was set up beautifully. It's neck was perfectly straight (no relief) and as for the action, the bass side at the 12th fret measured in at 1.6mm followed by 1.3mm on the treble side. This provided me with a very comfortable playing experience with no unwanted string rattle or fret buzz from the instrument. I found no production flaws in the instruments construction but the Grover tuners did require a little tightening. Other than that, brilliant.

Reliability/Durability : 2
Up until this point, I thought I'd found a worthy, though slower necked alternative to my Washburn Dime 3. However, string rattle, fret buzz, tuning problems and a neck bow all occurred within a mere three days of its usage. The stock floyd is absolutely awful and true nightmare to set-up, even by an experienced guitarist such as myself. I've adjusted truss-rods many times before but on this particular instrument, I found myself having to complete the mundane procedure upon every string change. A terrible disappointment from a company associated with so many renowned users.

Customer Support : 1
The technical room in the official Dean forum is filled with no trained technical staff whatsoever. Instead, I found myself facing know alls without any knowledge to back themselves up. I also discovered that I wasn't alone in facing the problems that I've mentioned above from this particular Dean guitar. Any requests for help or technical advice are disregarded if too many 'complaints' or flaws are made known on the website.

Overall Rating : 3
As a thrash metal guitarist and shredder of 15 years I'm more accustomed to guitars with necks faster than the chunky, baseball bat like one found on the Dean ML-F '79. However, once I'd adjusted to this 24 3/4" scale mahogany monster it wasn't long before I was up and sailing again. It's an undeniably cool looking guitar that contains some awesome tone woods and a beautiful finish. However, if it wasn't such a nightmare to maintain and set-up then it would be a true keeper and a worthy successor to my Washburn Dime guitar. This guitar has been a crushing disappointment for me and if it was stolen I wouldn't replace it. This will be the last Dean I ever use, period.

After you get some new pickups in and set the action, this guitar sounds and feels awsome! Mixed it with a good amp and you'll be in heaven. This may be a korean model but its a damn good one, if you are looking for a not to expensive, not to cheap dean this guitar is yours.
