I originally bought the Galaxie because I wanted a guitar that just looked rock n' roll. I settled for a Galaxie in pink sparkle with a silver sparkle pickguard. Mr. DiPinto was kind enough to call me and tell me that the original holographic pickguard material was not holding up well. They had discontinued it. The Galaxie 2 (I believe that's the model) has two humbucking pickups and boy, do they ever cool! They sound warm and they have a beautiful tone that can become dirty if that's your thing. One thing about the DiPinto that just blew me away was the tone control. The damn thing works, and it works very well. The pickups don't have adjustable pole pieces, but they can be tweaked with a little work and height adjusting. I don't know who makes them, but hats off to whoever it is. The layout is simple:
One volume control, one tone control, one three way switch. The tuners work very well. The body is poplar. I was skeptical at first,
but I must admit that Mr. DiPinto knows his woods. The back of the maple neck is painted white and the rosewood fretboard is very comfortable.
I play original music. Not the oversaturated-mega-hyper-stuff, but just cool three chord stuff with some nice dissonant overtones. I purchased this guitar from Earthshakin Music in Atlanta. Great store and a very professional staff who never call anybody dude. I'm giving this guitar a nine. My only complaint (and a small one at that) is the non-adjustable polepieces. The Galaxie's ARE Rock n' Roll! A good analogy would be the kid down the street. No one's really sure what he or she is about, but they've got the cocky swagger minus the posing. At the end of the day, they deliver the goods. That's rock n' roll, and that's the DiPinto Galaxie 2.
