ITs an el degas, i have no clue how old it is but it looks to be old. It looks exactly like a gibson les paul, it has 22 frets and the sound iz amazing. its a very strong guitar and it sounds better than both of my dads telecasters. i bought it off a friend for 100 bucks so i think i got a pretty good deal, oh ya and it says it wus made in japan on the back and it has the serial number too.

the sound is amazing , i would not trade it for any other guitar, everyone who has played it has loved it. It could use some new picups tho because the screech when u get too close to the amp other than that its like a gods guitar.

the guitar is beautiful, i believe its made of mahagoney but im not too sure. The neck it so straight that it amazes me.

ive droped it before on the input and it didnt bust in because its got a metal protecter so i say it can withstand a good beating. the strap buttoms are gold, the dont even budge. I would feel very comfortable using it a a gig wiothout a back-up.

Years ago I found a El Degas classical type guitar at an Arizona flea market. I was only drawn to it because it was facing the sun on a 110 Deg. day. With only 2 strings on it, I picked it up and tapped the box.. I was amazed at the sound this box produced. It was light as a feather.. ansd NO structural defects anywhere. The neck / frets / tuners are cvlearly cheap bottom of the line junk, but the box has a solid spruce top, mahogany back & sides. This as paper, strong as can be. It's been together for over 40 years with no care of any kind. It sounds better than any other acoustic I've ever had.

Many years later I was told a story about a luthier named Edgar Degas who passed away some time in the late 60's. The elder son (who wasn't exactly into the whole thing) then went through all of the priceless tonewoods the father had amassed for years, started dealing with a Korean manufacturer, sold the prints and plans (and all the wood).
I have no idea how true all this is, but I plan to have a replacement neck made for this box. The sticker says Model 80Y, dated Nov. 1973, the serial number is faded completely. I paid 2$ for the guitar, in a cardboard case. It was marked 5$.

As with all El Degas guitars, this one is a bit of an enigma. Steel string acoustic left-hander...It was made in Korea but I know not when. It has a lovely deep dark reddish wood neck and body.

This acoustic guitar forces me to sing strongly. Not an instrument for wimpy singers. It has a wonderful rich tone that loves a strong strum. It takes to picking quite truely as well but this is not my forte so I don't get the best out of it on this front. It is a fairly large guitar for a small woman but I'd never trade it for something smaller as I love it's big sound.

The action could use a bit of tweaking to suit my wimpy female hands but apart from that, no complaints.

My mother bought it second-hand around 1998. It looked brand new. It can't of been as the company was aparently sued into oblivion in the 80's. It's a tough guitar that puts up with all the knocks and bumps it gets. The finnish seems almost indestructable. This guitar has travelled around the world with me, been my friend through many a drunken jam session and has never let me down.

Please somebody start an El Degas appreciation forum or something! The company may be gone but who needs a warranty with such a dependable guitar?

I asked my mum to buy me a left handed guitar when I was 21 (which makes me a realatively late bloomer). I had never heard of El Degas guitars and so was sceptical. But even in my novice hands the sound was amazing (I still remember that first G chord). I love this guitar.
Not being an expert its hard to pin down why I love it so much but I'll put it down to that lovely deep tone and that lovely deep red wood. I've hardly put it down for 8 years now. If it was ever lost or stolen I don't know what I would do as I've never seen another like it. I didn't choose this guitar, it chose me. Anyone with more info on El Degas acoustics please get in touch...
