The built in effects were the cool thing that made me buy this guitar.
For a Japanese guitar this this has great features, nice inlay work, binding.
Things you didn't see in that price range during the ERA.
I bought mine new in 1976 and still have it in 2007.
This is one of the best playing electrics I have ever owned and all my guitars are American made, strats, teles, les pauls, sg etc.

I replaced the picks with dimarzio pickups, by passed the built in effects and replaced the 5 way selector with a 3 way toggle.
This guitar sounds as good now as most les pauls. Hey the Pickups are vintage like me now :).

This guitar plays as well as any guitar I play, the scale and spacing is slightly smaller than a Les Paul standard which fits my fingers better.

Through the body neck, 2 humbucking pickups with a 5 way selector, allowing you to use them as single coils. The coolest thing, though are the effect modules you can buy. They're hard to come by and competition is fierce when they show up on Ebay, but it's a cool way to get vintage effects.

The pickups have a really thin tone. I have to crank the bass on my amp and use the neck pickup almost exclusively when I play. I also have .013 gauge strings for tone. I've heard that it's great if the pickups are replaced.

Awesome action. I got it used and had to fix some of the wiring and it's still a little tempramental, but works alright.

This is a really solid guitar. Because of some wiring issues, I wouldn't gig without a backup, but everything else is really strong. It's an old guitar, but doesn't have any quirks.

I found this guitar at the Goodwill for $10. I'd never heard of it before, but I saw it had a through the body neck and figured it was worth a shot. I play this more than any of my other guitars. When I replace the pickups and have a luthier fine tune it, it will be even better.

lES pAUL STYLE eLECTRA mpc, MODEL x350, Maple top, mahogany back, set maple neck, abalone inlays, tortoise binding on body and neck, gold hardware, clear pick garud. Two humbuckers, (stock, I assume) one gold, one zebra. Two modules installed, overdrive and phaze.
I bought this guitar used in about 1988 from a pawn shop in Moscow, Oregon, for $180.
As close to a 10 out of 10 as I've seen and I've been playing it hard for many years.

I play rock, pop, and plenty of blues. I've played dozens of Les Pauls and this plays sweeter than the best of them. Smooth as silk, super fast neck. Awesome tone and tone control. This has been my main studio guitar for years. I benched a 1955 Strat, a Les Paul, a 335, 3 Rickenbackers, a Howard Roberts Fusion, a 1968 SG, and many others to play my Electra.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

The finish and craftmanship is as good or better than my Gibsons and nearly on par with Rickenbacker. Beautiful striped maple bookmatch. I asssume that mine was a high end model judging by the gold hardware and apparently special finish/buinding, etc... but I am no expert on Electra models. My only complaint ever is that the volume pot sits a little farther forward than I'd like it to.

I have gigged relentlessly for years with it and would buy another in a heartbeat. I forgot to mention that it came with straplock buttons which match the other hardware, probably stock. It looks and plays as good today as it did the day I bought it.

Bought used for $100. This is the Electra SG style guitar. Japan made, this one dates to '74 I believe. Dark wine red burgundy in color, bolt-on neck. Has 21 frets, 2 volume, 2 tone, 3 way switch. Has wah module. Trapezoid pearl inlay, with stop tailpiece.
Sound
:
10
The overall sound is amazing, despite a heavy buzz when all knobs are turned down and you lift your hand away from the fretboard, but I believe the guitar just needs to be electronically adjusted, probably has never been done since '74. The wah module is cool, and I also get a heavy warm blues sound from the neck pickups, and a major crunch from the bridge. I plug straight into a Marshall VS100 and it's awesome, even through my Crate 15 practice amp.

I bought this used and the action is LOW, slight buzz on the B string on the upper registers, but nothing a little intonation can't take of. The neck of the guitar is much thinner than a standard Gibson SG, so..I love this guitar! It's a fast neck and overall the guitar feels and fits nice, standing or sitting.

I would definitely use this guitar as a main axe for live shows, since it's used and 30 years old, it's dinged up, but adds to the overall character of the guitar. This guitar has definitely seen it's share of playing, and obviously has withstood the test of time, I would use it without a backup for sure.

I had an Electra MPC "Vulcan"
Black w/Greay sunburst. "Mother of Pear" inlays.
Built in the late seventies, I believe my guitar was one of the ones "allegedly" designed by Lesly West. My mother bought this guitar new, around 81, from a music store outside of Harrisburg, PA.
Two Humbuckers, open coil. Tap switch, two toggles for the effects.
High gloss mahogany, me thinks...? Rosewood neck.? Possibly.
The body style was a slender Les Paul, with a slight cut away.
The case was like a cofin. Hardshell.
I really can't get too specific about the time and place of the actual manufacture of this guitar. It was a gift when I was 15 and I had it for close to 20 years. I never cared about bragging spects. The guitar itself made it's own impressions.
Sound

I learned to play on this guitar. I played this guitar in the Junior high Jazz band.
There were years this guitar was not played. I would play in punk bands with other guitars. not until I was in my early twenties did I start using this guitar exclusively. I played a mix of Heavy psychedelic, prog-punk, Metal Jazz grass.
This was my guitar. It had a rich tone. Lez Paul body grove.
This is an excellent guitar for Jazz, Blues, 70's rock. I played everything on this guitar.
I liked to put 11 gauge strings on it. The bands that I played in were heavy and complicated, with grooves. Ended up going into free Jazz rock, lots of fingering. Excellent guitar.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:
10
The action on mine reminded me of a Les Paul and a Washburn. I had made adjustments to it several times. I had some electric soldering done on it. Loose wires.
Heavy guitar. Very heavy. This doesn't make it for jumping rock styles, punk, metal. This is a sit down guitar. High gloss finish, though at time I had several vinyl stickers covering it to protect it from sweat and spray.
Reliability/Durability
:

I would toss the guitar during performances and hurl it, because I knew it was durable. It never would go out of tune.
The strap locks eventually came loose after years of heavy usage. That's about it.

I believe there was a lifetime warranty. I was the original owner, I never needed them.
I bought only one when they still seemed to be currently on the market.
I had it put away for years before I pulled it from hibernation, during this time is when, I believe they stopped making the boxes. I could be wrong.

I loved this guitar. It is heavy though.
If you find one, buy it. Buy the boxes!
There not only an excellent guitar to play, they're a collector's item.

From what I've found out, my Electra MPC X340(Les Paul body design) was made in Japan sometime between 1976-80. It has a solid mahogany top and set mahogany neck. Rosewood fingerboard with abalone inlays, it has a relatively thin neck overall. Pickups are two humbuckers (super magnaflux) Passive pickups but the module effects (built-in) are active. The tuners are stock as well as everything else.
Sound
:

My musical style is mostly hard rock influenced by old-school punk. I think this guitar fits it to a "T". I've been playing through a Peavey Basic 60 Bass amp, my effects include a DOD Grunge pedal, a Zoom GFX 707 effects processor and the guitars' built-in module effects (phaser and overdrive) It has a full rich sound and at times sounds a little dirty(mostly when the Grunge pedal is on) The overall sound of the guitar is pretty versitile.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

The action is nice and low without causing any fret buzz. The pickups are actually pretty high output, for being close to 30 years old. Everything is in great working order. It has some minor dents in the body as well as a hole where a strap button pulled out of it(what do you expect for used products)The hardware is starting to tarnish a little bit.
Reliability/Durability
:

This guitar will definetly put up with the hazards of live play(I recomend a good padded leather strap for it, it does have some weight) Hardware is a little tarnished, but should hold up, finish is almost immaculate. I replaced the strap buttons with strap-locks, so I see them holding out quite well. It's a dependable guitar, without a doubt.

I have been playing guitar for 7 years and have played some great guitars and I've played some horrible ones. I don't look back on the purchase of this guitar at all. It almost feels like I've found a long-lost friend. I've always wanted a Gibson Les Paul and could never afford one, now I have the closest thing I'll probably ever get. I would like to try and find some of the other module effects for it though.

Electra MPC 310X so its black. Made in Japan 1978, maple cap and back like Gibson LP Custom and set neck with rosewood neck. Other features are brass nut, effect modules, abalone inlays, 5-way tone switch. Headstock has peacesign trademark in abalone and is bounded. Also the headstock is offset although have an older X310 (76) with symmetrical headstock and ebony fretboard with slim-tapered neck that equals this guitar. Tuners are cool too.

Heavy, beefy, warm, with exceptional clean tone, especially with the effect modules they add a vintage presence. I really like the treble booster, Fuzz module, and flanger. Very Cool stuff. I play lots of pure rock Sabbath, Zeppelin, Rush, some metal Maiden, Priest, Metallica, and I like folk music as well.

I have been playing for about 20 years but very much within the last couple years. I can't say enough positive things about this guitar. You have to play one to see how nice these guitars are. In my opinion they equal if not surpass Gibson LP from the same era. I guess that?s why Gibson sued them. I have two of them so if one were stolen I would still buy another.

Electra MPC X-310. I don't know much about Electra but I got this guitar on Ebay and I've never looked back. It came in excellent shape with a new Gibson 490R for the bridge as well as the original pickup. Came with 6 modules, Flanger, frog amp, poweroverdrive, phase shifter, Dynamic Fuzz and a treble bass expander. Set neck with pretty much a zero heel, great feel and fast neck. Super nice Abalone inlays, 4 pots and 2 paddle switches for the 2 modules. Also has a 5 way switch where the treble/rythm on a standard LP go.
Sound
:

This is the loudest electric without an amp, I've ever heard. It has great warm tones you'd expect with a LP and the built in effects are not a joke, they work and a couple of them work exceptionally well. The phrase shifter and flanger are perfect IMO.
This guitar sustains for days, guess thats got something to do with the set neck and brass nut. I think it wounds great. Hell for less than 5% of what my LP custom cost, it sounds about 90% as good.

Very pretty guitar. Headstock has peacesign trademark in abalone and is fully bound, paint is superb and after probably 25 years, this guitar is still as beautiful as when it was new. The action is nice and low but not buzzy. The zero heel set neck is a true work of art. Fits like a glove and this instrument reiks of quality worksmanship.

This guitar came in original form, cept for the addition of a Gibson 490R. All the pots work without crackles and its as playable as the day it was made. Feels like its tough but I've not had any accidents yet with it. Nor do I plan too. This thing has lasted this long, seems like it was built to last.

Electra? The record company? Hell, I'm sure whoever made it is out of business or ruling the guitar manufacturing world. This guitar is soo nice that the people making it either took over, or were driven out because it was a superior product of the time.

Love it. I also have a '96 LP custom 3 hum, and this guitar feels just as well built. It's not as heavy and it's not half as scary taking this one to a friends place to jam. Hell, for what I paid for this, I'd buy a truckload if I could. I love my Custom but this is a practical guitar for someone really interested in guitars. A true wolf in sheeps clothing. IMO
BTW, if anyone knows how to tell when a specific electra was made, please email me. My guitar's serial is above and I'd like to know. As well as any other good electra sites that may be out there. I love info.
