Another fine Matsumoku made guitar. 22 very large frets, pretty beefy brass nut. looks alot like the X260 or X270 but has 4 control knobs instead of three (a les paul double cutaway type body). Appears to have a set neck that looks dang near like a through body. Has two sets of humbuckers and active bass and treble (really doesn't need this feature). Dark walnut finish,(stain), not much else is on the wood, (you can feel the relief of the grain). I read that these have ash bodies, but the guitar is not very heavy. I guess these were made from 80 to 83. This one has a tremolo arm/bridge set up that probably isn't stock. It has more controls than I have use for.

I'm not really a guitar player, but dig harmonics and doing lots of depraved two hands on the neck percussive stuff. Currently using a Peavey Wiggy (the Dweezil Zappa thing) and maybe should check out some other amps, but for sure the weak link here is walkin' around on two legs. I've been on kind of a binge w/ trying out guitars lately and really dig an Aria ProII TS 400 (HEAVY string through body that decays like grand piano or a cathedral bell), a Parker P42 that's alot more agile and delicate and a Ibanez Talman w/ after market pickups the Talman has been pretty much my all around favorite til now. This Electra has a rich meaty sound that's just plain good. I get away with amp settings and high rpm tapping attempts that won't work w/ the other guitars. Alot of guitars tend to have a hollow weak metallic quality when you stay on the fretboard alot. That's not the case here. This one has all the grunt of a heavy beast and makes alot of guitars seem like they're full of dead spots. It won't stop me from looking around but it's definitely a keeper.
Action, Fit, & Finish

You don't have to be a master guitar tech, to see that this a fine piece of work. The action is LOW but it hasn't buzzed me. I've grabbed shred weapons really can't begin to compete w/ this action. The quality of craftsmanship is excellent throughout, the routing is precise, all the laminate joints are super tight. You get the impression that these guys wanted to prove they could make good stuff and really got into it.
Reliability/Durability
:
No Opinion
This guitar is about 25 years old. It's hard to say what would happen if a touring musician hauled it around the country and hammered on it 4 nights a week. It sure looks like it could stick around for another 25 years if it gets treated halfway decent.

Been beating on stuff for decades (guitars off and on about 3 years). Probably would be tough to replace this guitar. If some turd licker stole it, I'd look for another 250X or some other kick ass Matsumoku. I'm kind of a sucker for cool looking wood grain patterns, but I like the feel and sound of this guitar even more than I like its appearance. It just seems to make interesting things happen. I might be happier w/ the stock stop tail, but there's really nothing that I don't like about the guitar. Got a Carvin DC 135t on the way, I'll be surprised if it knocks this one off the perch
