This guitar is pretty basic. Well, it would be for 90 quid from argos wouldn't it? It has one humbucker pickup, which is OK but sucks on clean. It has a volume and tone control, Well you don't need more, but i would've liked it to have more pickups.

Sound : 6
I play metal, like metallica, megadeth etc. It's pretty good for that, but isn't great. It sucks at everything else. I use it with a ****** Yamaha amp, but I've used it with a HUGE marshall amp, and it sounded OK. It's got a hell of a lot of feedback noise, but that might just be the amp. I kinda like the distorted sound the guitar makes, but in clean mode it sounds crap.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
When I got it, it was nowhere near tuned, but I got it from argos, so it's not completely the makers fault. The pickups are crap. But it does seem to be pretty well made and put together. The strap pegs are pretty strong, the tuning pegs haven't failed, but it goes out of tune A LOT.

Reliability/Durability : 3
I don't know if it will withstand live playing, but It sounds so bad that I wouldn't use it anyway. It seems pretty well made, but I haven't used the guitar much, so i'm not completely sure. The finish scratches if you gently scrape it with your nail, so it's crap. The strap buttons seem pretty solid, but need to be screwed in quite regularly, but if you keep screwing them they should stay on. I wouldn't use it at a gig anyway, never ming without a backup!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them, but I'm sure they suck.

I've been playing for about 3 months seriously. Before that, I just ******* around on it. I don't have any other electric guitars, ut I've played an esp, a fender, a gibson, a few yamahas and the more expensive strat copy from encore, all of them were WAY better. I wish i saved my money for longer and bought a better guitar, because this one sucks ***! If it was stolen, I'd probably throw a party to celebrate it's departure! If it was stolen I'd get an ESP or an Epiphone. I don't love anything about it really, It looks quite cool, but everything else SUCKS! I was stupid enough not to compare it, or even TRY it before I got it, but I was just ******* around on it, so i didn't care anyway. I only bought it because it was cheap. I wish it was just BETTER and had more pickups.

The finish is pretty basic, as it only comes in gloss black with black hardware on pickups and knobs etc.
Strat copy without scratchplate, but with single bridge-positioned humbucker, 3/4 size body. Very light, easy to jump around with at band practise or jumping around in the mirror with (come on, we've all had our little moments of vanity!) It also has a vintage style tremolo, which can keep it screechingly out of tune!
Nice, 22 1/2 frets, mainly for smaller hands. One volume and one tone knob (as standard in a 3/4 usually). Includes strap, set of plectra and 2 1/2 watt practise amplifier in the package that I bought. Not a brill amp, but good to mess around with. Maple neck and rosewood fingerboard, instead of ebony just to lower the price a bit.

Sound : 6
It definately suits my musical style. a single humbucker in the bridge, which is very simalar to the punk-infected Billie Joe Armstrong Les Paul Junior. It snarls at the bridge, which is wonderful, as I mainly play Greenday-Come-Ramones type music. I currently play it with overdrive on my Fender Frontman II, without any pedals, although sounds good when I play the sucker clean! Not much variety, as expected with a single pickup at the bridge.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
It was suprisingly well set up, with a pickup that has not disappointed me. Very proffesional, but as standard from John Hornby Skewes. Good.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I've had it for a good two years and when I have gigged it- Did not disappoint! My band got a standing ovation on "Smoke on the Water".
I changed the volume knobs for these ones I got free with a magazine. I had an eagle mountain strap and it was really racking me off as it kept falling and making me perspire in anxiety in case it happens live. But recently am enjoying my Planet Waves standard strap in pink (yes thats it, laugh at the camp pansy- FOR PUNK PURPOSES ONLY!) and has not fallen off since. I use it for all our live shows, and I have thoroughly enjoyed strumming and plucking away with it. There 'aint no flies' as far as this catogories concerned.

No warranty, but musician shop really showed me the ropes to guitar buying and they were incredibly helpful as far as support is concerned.

I have been playing for 6 years but developed slowly on my cheap, Falcon-branded acoustic. I became a good guitarist in my year a few years ago, with people nodding and smiling at my playing, but recently, over the past year to be a bit more of a shredder on the fingerboard electric-ally. If I lost it, I'd buy something along the lines of a Paul Reed Smith SE Standard Stoptail, or a Gibson Les Paul MM. I compared it with a sunburst Crafter Fender Espirit copy, but I fell in love with the black finish and vintage bridge humbucker. Basically all round, a good, sturdy beginners punk-genre model, at a cheap price. Safe to go with.

Not really sure when this was made, around 2001/2002 i guess. 22 fret maple neck with rosewood fretboard, 1 voulume 1 tone control, 1 single coil humbucker, composite body (makes it really light), with a think layer of maple or something underneath, i know this because i sanded it down cos i wanted a natural finish to it. Only comes in gloss black, has a Traditional Tremolo bridge, chrome machine heads like strat. 65 cm long (very small). i bought it in ebay for #65 and it came with gig bag, 10w Kustom amp and crappy lead. RRP #89.

Sound : 7
I play Green Day punky stuff and this suits it pretty well. I have 2 amps, a 10w kustom and a 100w Carlsbro for my band, it sounds rubbish in the Kustom but when i use the Carlsobro its really a different story, its a very loud guitar and the tone is pretty good. The sound and tone arent quite as good as a KCT3 from Encore but its pretty good foor the price.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
This has quite a high action and im not sure if it can be adjusted, doesnt really stay in tune very well, a tuner would be needed! The frets are very fast and this guitar would be excellent for a beginner. The pickups are a bit loose and cant be tightened. Tuning pegs very easy to turn, but that could be a bad thing.

Reliability/Durability : 5
I wouldnt recommend using this guitar live because for a start you would probable be laughed at for having such a small guitar and its doesnt feel very solid. The actual hardware seems pretty solid so that should be no problem. i would only recommend this guitar as a starter guitar. The finish seems quite cheap and like it may come off at any moment. For gigging it should only be used as a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
The only problem ive had was that the jakc stopped working, was easily repaired with a bit of soldering. never had to deal with customer support.

Overall Rating : 7
this is my first guitar, ive been play since sept. 2002 so about 5 months. i have a 10w Kustom amp and a 100w Carlsbro Stingray Lead for my band. i regret not askng if it was a full size guitar cos i will fell pretty stuoid gigging with this, but i have a Dean Mach 5x lined up so thats sorted, this will be used as a backup. if it were stolen i wouldnt get another Encore, yes, they are a great beginner guitar, but a bit cheap and nasty. i really dont like the weight as it is just too light. i wish it had a couple of single coil pickups as well to get some different sounds out of it.
