I have an Epiphone 1958 reissue Flying V in black with gold hardware. 2 humbuckers, 3 way toggle, 2 volume, 1 tone knob, and tune o matic string thru body design. Made in Korea so it leads me to believe its fashioned out of basswood, or maybe ply-wood... =( I had left this guitar with a friend to look after, and he told me the input jack was shot. I got the guitar shipped to me, and I haven't noticed a thing wrong with the jack. The reason I give this guitar an 8, is the stress on my shoulder from playing standing up. Also, I hate the gold hardware, its rusted or relic'd looking, but I'm swapping it all out for shiny chrome hardware shortly.

A lot of people trash this guitar. I just strung it up after 3 years, I wanted to hear the input jack, and how bad it was. But, as I stated the jack wasn't broken and I wound up playing the V for 5 hours. This guitar is not for metal, but it wasn't made for metal in mind. I have a PRS CE24 which is my main, Fender HMT Tele, this V, into a Mesa Boogie Rectoverb 50. Effects are Boss DD5, vintage EH Small Clone, vintage EH Small Stone, EH Poly Chorus, and a Boss tremolo. It played very well, it was very refreshing to my old axe again =). What I found the guitar to handle well was playing early 90's alternative. Think Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream. The buckers do sound a little flat compared to the PRS, but hehe that's Buick and Lexus. But the V sounded excellent and was a nice change of pace. You may argue that its because a Mesa Boogie is pushing it. But the Fender Hmt Tele sounds absolutely terrible distorted through this amp, or just naybe in general. I recieved this guitar in a trade from a local guitar owner, so I basically got it for free. I could never complain about it.

I have been setting guitars up on my own lately, and this was a very easy guitar to set up. I received this guitar used in the trade for an extra amp I was not using. There were 2 chips in the paint down to the wood, and the gold hardware is either rusted or faded to chrome. I'm currently retrofitting the guitar with all new chrome and new pickups. I hope it turns out well.

Its definitely a workhorse, it earned the right to be the new gigging back up. I have found Epiphone to be a fickle company in production. It's not a company I would order though magazine or online, you have to physically play them. I have picked up 2 Epi Casino's at the local Guitar Center, and the difference was amazing, one was cheap and junky and the other held it's ground. So I find them to be very hit or miss.

I have been playing guitar for 11 years, and I have grown fond of this guitar. Aside from the mandatory pick up swap, and rusted hardware, the guitar is a winner in my book. If it were to be stolen, I wouldn't flip out, may not even buy it again as a replacement. I would miss the essence of playing a V though. The best part of owning a V is the fact that it's a V, it just looks awesome. I couldn't even compare it to my PRS, I find it's closest sonic match is MIJ Mustangs, Jaguars, and Jazzmaster but with more flavor. Think Smashing Pumpkins not Slayer =)

I play alot of megadeth and metallica. This guitar is not suited for this type of music. The bridge pickup had a lame crunch and the neck pickup was really muddy (I raised it to as high as possible and it still was really muddy).
The tone of this guitar is plain bad. The bass sounds empty and the mids suck but the treble is actually good. This is a disappointment for metal players and really anyone who uses the 3-6th strings. I blame this on the cheap wood in the guitar cause it sounded just as bad unplugged. A

The finish was good, the pickups needed adjustment, but still sucked...
Action was high, the pickups were soldered poorly, and the pickup switch was noisy.

This was built pretty solidly for an Epiphone, although not as good as a Schecter. I wouldn't worry about gigging with this, if it didn't suck so much and wasn't so neck-heavy. This guitar tilts like mad with the strap on, but alot of the unusual bodies do.

I sent it back to Musician's friend and they were pretty good about it.

Crappy, ruined by bad wood. Also, EXTREMELY unbalanced; which is a major PITA.
I have owned a schecter hellraiser C-1, an Epi. Les Paul in Silverburst, this V and a yamaha super-strat.
This ranks at the bottom of the list; it is terrible. I would not recommend this to anyone except my enemies. If it were lost, I would thank god that I have an opportunity to get a new guitar.

He I bought mine used from a local Music-Go-Round. It did not have the original pickups in it when i got it. I was so excited about buying this guitar I never noticed until was taking a break from jamming on it. I swapped the unk sounding. I swapped the old ones out for a set of stock pickups and I really didn't notice a change at all. I love the neck on this guitar. Thin necks are not my thing. This neck feels like I'm holding something important. Almost reminds me of holding a shot gun!!!
Now for the sound..... Very raw and growly. I love to play old Black Sabbath tunes while warming up. This guitar does a good job for that. I also did some drop "D" stuff and it seems to work well there, too. I think this is going to be my new baby. New as well as old Gibsons cost too fucking much and as long as they keep making cheaper guitars that sound as good as this one, I will probably never give a shit if I ever do own one.
I tried a multitude of effects with this axe and it only feeds back if I really have a lot of gain and I am standing to close to the speaker.(DUH!!) Leads sound good at high volumes and there is plenty of sustain to hold notes for eons. I am thoroughly impressed with this guitar. I don't have the original hard case, but a HAMER case will work fine as a replacement. Fits like a glove.

Finish is very solid. Pick guard isn't the nicest one I've seen but I don't give a crap about it that much. Action is set a little low right now. I will probably raise it some to avoid a little fret buzzing. But you can get the action pretty low on this guitar and not have and huge issues.

Keep your ears open when buying a guitar. Go with your own judgement. Fuck endorsements, Fuck what everyone else has. Go with your instincts. And play it LOUD!!!!!!

I have here a '58 Flying V. Not the Korina version there IS a difference beyond color. Black with gold hardware. Made in Korea in '03. It has 22 frets. It has 2 Volume knobs and one overall tone knob. It has two Hb's which where Gibby designed. This axe has a 24.75" scale neck. It also has the aged tuners on it.

I am mainly a Metal head. But I do play everthing including Southern rock, blues, metal and Classic rock. I use a Marshall 30 watt Mg30DFX with the occasional T-S9 tube screamer. I also use the Digitech MetalMaster pedal for Metal crunch. It does everything well. This has to be THE most versital guitar there is around. I can pull out some Metallica fade to black and slam back down to Skynyrd's Call me the breeze. It has a sweet sound on the bridge pickup. I mainly play with the switch in the middle with the neck pickup volume off. NO it is not the same as playing with the bridge pickup it is a lot richer. With just the neck pickup this guitar really shines. I really honestly don't dislike anything about this guitar.

The setup from the factory was weak but hell they don't you at the factory so i wouldn't mark that agaisnt them. The pickups where adusted fine the only thing for me was the action was a little high.

I don't play live but the way I practice and play with my 200watt stero all I am missing is the crowd. I would have no problems playing infront of a crowd with this thing. The only gripe would be the stap bouttons are in a great location for the overall original 58 look whick i like mine guitars relic not any new crap like different tuners. But it is slightly out of balance but no biggie still comfortable to play standing up and sitting. I would gig without a back up. But I would rotate guitars anyway.

I have been playing for about 5 years. I own Epi's Basher just for a kick around. A few strats and a marshall which is listed above. If it where stolen hittler would be like damn i wish i would have thought to do that. I would have one on order at 10 am the next day. I love everything about this guitar and hate nothing. I wish it had Gibson PAF's like the actuall gibson did in 58 but thats about it. I would highly reccomend this in a heartbeat.
