Epiphone 62 Reissue SG

Made in Korea red SG

This guitar sounds brighter than your average Gibson. I have an actual 62 reissue Gibson SG and I compared them side by side. the neck pickup of the epiphone sounds similar to the bridge pickup of the Gibson. The lead pickup of the epiphone sounds like a Telecaster with a humbucking in the lead position (not bad just different).

I bought my guitar used and the set up was poor. This may be the reason the original owner sold it. After a proper set up this guitar plays fine.

I am very familiar with Epiphone guitars and the only thing that I would worry about is the pickup selector switch and volume controls. In the past they have saved some money by putting in some cheaper electronis. maybe OK for a non giging muscian.

I have been playing guitar for over 35 years and have owned over 30 guitars. The Epiphone SG is a good looking guitar that sounds good. If you like the feel and sound of it then buy it. Do not spend a lot of money on this guitar to try to improve it. Pickups and bridges are not going to change this guitar much. I have played better Epiphones than this one, some of the Epiphone Les Pauls are quite good. I forgot to metion that this guitar is slightly neck heavy.

played thru a Marshall JCM900 head and box, the pickups are quite poor. Muddy sounding with not much bite or clarity, probably need the covers removed. was hoping for that Gibson Explorer or Flying V tone, but it wasnt there, much weaker sounding. The guitar sounds ok acoustic, but the pickups definitely need replacing

factory set up was ok, a touch high. The finish, colour, and woodgrain was very good.Very nice to look at. The neck is thin and bends quite easily,often unintentionally detuning the strings for a bit.

I don't think the neck join is quite strong enough, resulting in the neck flexing quite a lot, and the hardware is of the usual Epi standard( quite poor compared to a Gibson) and often everything needs to be replaced.

If lost or stolen I would buy an Epi Explorer to replace it. I wouldn' buy another 62 SG reissue copy. I own Gibson V and Explorer and they crap all over the Epi SG for tone( the stock pickups are to blame I feel) and the neck is too weak. Value for money though is 7 or 8 out of 10

this guitar fits my style very well, i play mostly heavy metal anything from metallica to iron maiden to slipknot, im using this with an ashton GA80 which is pretty alright and a Boss ME-50 multi effects which is a great pedal for play through with the SG. Around their time in the 60's these guitars sounded good for blues along with strats but i use it for metal and it still sounds good. great clean sounds from the neck pickup and nice distorted sounds from the bridge pickup.

the factory settings on it were okay but i changed everything to suit me. I lowered the action down a bit more and heightend the bridge pickup just a bit, the only flaw i found was the input jack kept going inside but thats easily fixed, other than that i didnt find any flaws

this is a really solid guitar and its taken a bit of a beating and it always bounces back, the tuners are really good and will last for a while ive had this guitar for over a year now and a lot of sh*t has happend to it in that time and it still plays as good as the day i bought it.

ive been playing for over 5 years, i own a washburn accoustic, ashton nylon accoustic, LTD Viper 50, Boss ME-50 Multi effetcs. if this were lost id probly buy it again if i had the money. i love the low action and the warm sound i can get.

'99 Epiphone G-400 (slightly almost kinda similar to a '62 SG) - cherry, mahogany set neck and body, rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid markers, two Epiphone humbuckers, kluson-style tulip tuners...

Sound on this baby is good, nice pedestrian humbucking sound. You can improve this just by removing the pickup covers for better clarity, or of course you can always go the Seymour Duncan route. Pretty much the standard SG sound.

Set-up fairly good, the finish was as good as one would expect for an Epiphone... although the 20th fret was high on the low E side so I had to mill the fretboard before I could get the kind of action I am used to. Excellent finish, a little redder on the neck than on the body, which was pretty much a perfect SG cherry.

Solid as a rock, not much to go wrong, good quality throughout - only issue here was a CSJ (cold solder joint) on the selector switch, quick warm-up with the hot stick fixed that no problem. The finish looks durable (only time will tell) with a good gloss. I never hads troubles with the strap buttons... the placement coupled with the fairly light weight makes them hard to slip off, not like a Les Paul.

Eh... I tried contacting Epiphone via e-mail regarding some issues I had with respect to the accuracy of the guitar in comparison with a '62 SG (it's way off, see the next section) and although a Gibson rep replied that he was forwarding my e-mail, Epiphone never replied. Must be a sore spot.

Well... I always wanted a nice vintage SG (I have a '78 that is very sweet, with the narrow seventies neck) but as a non-professional I can't justify the price on a Gibson '61 re-issue... so naturally I was all excited when Epi brought out this '62 copy. I was very pleased with my previous Epi's, a Les Paul birdseye and a Korina Explorer, so I had high hopes that the G-400 would be as good... except that once I received it, I found out that it's a VERY poor rendition. The cutaways are wrong, the scarfing is not deep enough, the neck/body joint is far too "blocky", and worst of all, they didn't even get the knobs in the right position. I don't know if they are afraid of hurting Gibson SG sales, or if they are just incompetent hacks, and maybe I'm too picky, but I was looking for an SG replica, and Epi advertizes this axe as a "faithful" (their words) '62 SG replica... to me, "faithful" means a lot closer than this thing is. If I wanted a "sorta" SG I could have bought a DeArmond. Anyway, I can't live with the inaccuracies so it's up for sale at the local music store. Hopefully I can get 300 bucks for it. If Epi ever gets their shit together some day, I may buy another, because the guitar is essentially a good piece of work, it's just not quite an SG.

This Guitar was Setup Great at The Factory But i got it even Better Myself, There Is No Flaws What So Ever.

This is Built For Live Playing, The Hardware is Great Except on one of the Tune-O-Matic Bolt a little bit of chrome Chipped off, The Finish Is Perfect,i only Used The Original Buttons for about a Week then i got Strap Locks for it. I can Depend on it, I wouldn't need backup with this guitar.

Haven't had to deal with them.
