This is a review for a guitar purchased by my father on July 12th, 1977. It's for a Japanese made Epiphone Classical guitar, model C-060.

The top on this guitar is beautiful. It's a nice fine grain for a solid spruce top. The neck is maple with a dark rosewood fingerboard. And judging from the wood grain pattern I see on the inside and outside of the guitar, the sides and back are made from a solid rich, dark mohogany. I don't see a laminate anywhere on this guitar except a rosewood veneer slapped over the face of the headstock covering the maple.

I count 19 frets on this one, in between a bone saddle and bone nut. And a gorgeous rosewood tailpiece as well.

There are no electronics on this one. And there have been no modifications. This is a closet special, essentially.

Sound : 10
For dinking around with classical, it has a nice punch to it when you need it. For it being roughly a 28 year old guitar, the neck is still straight as an arrow harboring 0 string buzz. This guitar has a rich, warm & full tone to it that resonates wonderfully throughout the body.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action on this guitar is still great after all this time. The factory then did a pretty decent job bookmatching the two piece top. You can't really tell unless you look closely to see the symetrics.

The finish is a high gloss all over, done great. It's a shiner under a stage light, or even a overhead light.

Reliability/Durability : 10
As I've said before, this guitar is was a closeted one. It's still alive and it still plays wonderfully after sitting for so long. I changed the strings on it about 6 months ago before returning it to a closet and it's still doing well. No bowing or anything. I'd recommend it for live playing and what not.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
I own many guitars as well has have my own studio. I'm a drummer & bassist as well. I've run "national" guitar stores and have seen a lot of different instruments. This Epiphone C-060 is definately a heavy hitter for a mid-70's Japanese classical. It's gorgeous any way you look at it. I'd get another just like it if I lost it somehow and found another one promply afterward.
