I purchased the 2008 Epiphone G-1275 Custom model brand new from a local music retailer.
This guitar is Korean made and please ignore anyone who has complained about the workmanship of this guitar. It is of a very high standard.
Just to debunk some myths that I've read about this model.
1) The body is NOT plywood, it's Mahogany and has the rich dark tones associated with the wood type.
2) The neck is set and NOT bolted on.
3) The flame-top is genuine.
I am going to give it an 8 because apart from the beauty of the guitar I still hate those snot green tuning pegs that Epiphone use.
In saying that the guitar holds its tuning remarkably well and I would not consider changing these tuning for that reason.

:

Without plugging this guitar in and just strumming on the 12 string and 6 string the acoustics of the G-1275 are very impressive and quite usable when just banging around on the couch. There is a full richness and very pleasant tone probably associated with the fact that there's so much wood in the body.
The real issue I have with the guitar is when I plug it into an amplifier it sounds like poo. Sorry, but if anyone defends the pickups that Epiphone make then you have no idea of what a guitar should sound like. There is absolutely no definition on the individual notes when I play chords or licks, be it on the 12 string or 6 string. It just sounds like a ton of muddy crap.
It's a shame but not unreasonable to expect that Epiphone have to compromise somewhere. I am actually glad that they chose to compromise a part of the guitar that is easily replaceable. I would rather they put in dodgy pickups than sacrifice the quality of the finish or woods used.
So to solve this problem, I put in 2 sets of Seymour Duncan Hot-rodded pickups in both the 12 string (Nickel) and 6 string (Black)position. The SH2N Jazz in the neck allows for the real tonal definition and precision and makes the 12 string sing. The SH4 JB in the bridge gives the hot lead tone that I was after as well.
I am going to score this a 5. 0 for the pickups that come with the guitar but a 10 for the potential that can be unleashed.

The factory setup was great but most retailers should check/adjust your setup prior to giving it to you anyway.
The finish of the guitar was remarkable. Mother-of-pearl fret inlay as well as headstock signature. I am also really happy Epiphone chose to copy the Jimmy Page E-1275 look on the neck. Because after all he is the reason you're even considering buying this axe.
Considering the guitar came in a cardboard box, the paint was undamaged and was straight as an arrow.
Time to go out on a limb...The playability of this guitar is equivalent to my Gibson 57 Les Paul Custom. Epiphone really do make great guitars, the pickups and tuning pegs aside, and are well worth the money.

I haven't played with this guitar yet as I am still waiting on my hard case to come in. However, as I have said previously the guitar is very well built and holds its tuning well on both the 12 and six string. I don't see me having an issue with this guitar.
Also, this guitar is very heavy. I'm a fairly big guy but even I struggle to play with it longer than 30 minutes or so.
Also, I replaced the strap buttons with locking ones because I was always too paranoid that the guitars weight would cause it to slip off its strap.
The guitar holds its tuning well for both the 6 and 12 string necks.
I'll score it an 8 only because the switches and tune-o-matic bridge could be better quality.

I bought this guitar because ever since I saw Jimmy Page play this on Song Remains The Same as a kid I just had to have one.
I now play in a covers band (web: www.dryryder.com - myspace: www.myspace.com/dryryder for anyone who's interested) and I am looking to play some Led Zep, perhaps even Wanted Dead Or Alive-Bon Jovi or Hotel California-Eagles with it to add a bit of stage presence to our show.
I have been playing for over 20 years and own a range of cool guitars including the Gibson, Fender as well as Wolfgang and Maton and I can say this guitar can sit proudly among them. Once I replace the pickups the guitar is wonderful to play.
If it were stolen I would buy the same again and not even consider the Gibson version.
Things that need to be considered are:
-Pickups suck balls
-Replace the strap buttons to locking ones as the guitar weighs a ton
-Get a hard case as it comes delivered in a cardboard box

Well its the Epiphone G-1275,seeing that I can't seem to get a straight answer on the serial numbers for this guitar I'll go from what I've been told the last four digits of this guitars serial number is 2004,yet I received it in December 2008 from musicians friend.
Everything is on it that is stated in the listings that are from the manufacture this is cherry red in color truss rod covers have SG scribed into them this is a solid wood body covered by drop top laminate of flamed maple, with set necks.
I'll give the appearance a 10.

As a non-professional musician I play many different styles from metal to jazz and have for the past few days put this guitar through its paces using a Digitech GNX300 and a Carvin X100B tube amp, this is the fourth G-1275 and I must say I've had the worst of the worst in this model from the type where the body was made of plywood and yes they did make them out of plywood, but of the 4 that I've owned this one seems to have the best sound though I will say that the three way neck selector switch is useless it bleeds too much tone off of both sets of pickups to be useful,so I switch from neck to neck like I would if this were the reall EDS-1275 by Gibson. so I'll give it a nine for soud

No lose frets and this was set up pretty good all around at the factory the action was and is pretty good on both necks which isn't always the case usually the 6 string necks on these are high there are one or two finish flaw commonly known as fish eyes but nothing I can't live with, and the book match isn't that grate in fact there's more of a flame on one side than the other I'll give this an 8 though.

Well here is a question that I'll try to answer as well as I can this guitar has so far been well playable the tuners seem to have a good ratio no problems so far I replaced the strap buttons with strap locks here's a tip get yourself an extra wide strap the guitar is neck heavy.
I would not use it as a main guitar not that there's anything wrong with it is a heavy monster and yo u wouldn't want to use it for a two hour gig thats for sure but I'd have no problem using it in a gig.
Even with that said I'll still give it a 10

I've not had to use the customer service but will say this Epiphone is owned by Gibson and I've had contact with them over the phone and over the net they have always been helpful each time I've contacted them with any questions I might have had.
With that said I'll still give them a 10

I've been playing a total of 28 years now this was one of those guitar that said buy me so I did without success until recently I would warn anyone looking to get one of these do not buy it used unless you can inspect it first hand,if you feel compelled to do so over the net you will be sorry,if you chose to buy it used from lets say ebay ask for clear pictures of where the necks are set and seated in the body both from the back and from the front if the seller cannot provide these its best to walk away!( there are many of these where the necks seem to separate from the pockets on the body though Gibson and other people say I don't know what I'm talking about I've seen this many times)

Well, I agree with stainless, it's no Gibson but then it's not $4000.00 CND is it? Great sound for the price, I have a 69 Strat as well and I'e been through many guitars in my 40+ years of playing (good value for $900.00 CND new) Mine is the new 2008 model and they changed the pickups on the six string to the double SG type.

I got my Epi Twin Neck (2006) 2 months back and it's already back in the shop for repair. The frets on the treble side of the 12 string neck are lifting causing the 1st string to catch underneath them. This guitar cost ??700 with the case (which arrived a month after the guitar!), I would expect better fret work for a guitar of this price regardless of wether it's got 2 necks or not. On inspection the treble side of the 6 string neck is also pretty rough!
The guitar is finished nicely but I'm also not convinced of the "flamed maple veneer", it does look like a foto-finish.
I've had no issues with the hardware yet. The switches do feel a little cheap but no disasters as yet. No-one else on this review page has pointed out that it differs from the gibson in that it has 3 switches - p/up selector for each neck and master neck switch. The Gibson has 2 - master p/up selector (both necks) and neck selector.
The tuners are a little cheap feeling but the guitar keeps it tuning very well IMO.
The volume and tone controls do their job well enough. The volume control doesn't really drop off till about 1 or 2. I don't use a clean channel on my amp (early 80's Marshall JCM800) just my volume control. You've practically got to turn it off to get any drop in gain!
The pickups seem fine on the 6 string but the 12 is dull by comparison. If anyone can advise me on somethiong brighter sounding with a bit more zing I'd appreciate it. I've got burstbuckers on my Les Paul so was thinking about giving these a whirl in the 12. So far I've never been able to use the neck pickup in the 12 as it sounds too thick and wooly on the bridge pickup as it is!

I bought this guitar as I play in a Led Zep tribute band (Led Astray www.myspace.com/ledastrayuk if you're interested). It does it's job for the 3 songs I use it for in our set - Song Remains The Same, Rain Song, Stairway to Heaven. I run it through the following set-up - Behringer PreAmp Booster - Boss TU2 - Roger Mayer modified Crybaby - MXR Phase 90 - Roger Mayer Voodoo Boost - Zoom Programmable Delay - Marshall 2210 JCM800 50 Watt Head running an early 70's Basketweave cab with Celestion 25 Watt Greenbacks. The guitar does have a good sound when cranked, just the problem with the lack of control with the volume pot and the muddiness of the 12 neck. In comparison with my 2003 Les Paul standard the guitar is a lot darker and bassier. This is common with most SG style guitars I've found though. The guitar's not noisy though and I'm generally running my amp at about %70 volume at most gigs. The neck p/up and inbetween setting on the 6 side are quite nice and fruity sounding. It's a pity I can't use the neck p'up on the 12 at all!

The guitar arrived poorly set-up. The 12 string neck was great straight out of the box but I had to lower the 6 significantly. The necks are comfy. The 12 feels similar to a classical guitar, fairly flat and wide. The 6 in comparison feels very small and rounded. It doesn't really compare with other sg style guitars I've owned/played. They tend to have thick baseball bat style necks.
The hardware seems fine if a little cheap. As mentioned at the top of the review the fretwork is pretty poor. This is unacceptable for a guitar in this price range. I've seen better work on an ??80 strat copy!

I've played about 4 gigs with this guitar so far and it's done the job fairly well. Only time will tell if it's gonna stand up to long term abuse. I treat the guitar fairly gently and haven't even put any straplocks on it yet! It is heavy but balances really well on a wide leather strap. I have to use it without a backup (it is my backup!) but this guitar saves me lugging around an extra Les Paul as a back-up for my main guitar.
The case by the way is pretty poor. It's quite an awkward and potentially delicate instrument. The case, in my opinion, is nothing more than a vinyl cover with some cardboard in it!

I took into my dealer yesterday so I'll have to wait a few weeks to see what's going to happen to the frets. Coincedentally they told me there getting the new Gibson Jinny Page signature twin in a few weeks. That's gonna be about 7 or 8 grand though!

I've been playing for 20 years and this is my first doubleneck. It looks the part and almost sounds the part as well. I've always wanted an electric 12 and it is a very playable and fun 12 string guitar. I played a Rickenbacker 12 when I ordered this guitar and it just wasn't comfy to play. If it was stolen I think I'd save up for the Gibson EDS1275. I had to gig this guitar pretty much the same day it came in so didn't get much chance to test it out. If you're thinking about getting one - check the frets thoroughly, save some cash for better pickups for the 12 string neck and look into getting a flightcase made for it as the case is cheap and flimsy (I'm thinking of converting a keyboard flightcase for it).

This axe is no Gibson....period! The necks play well, but Epiphone should have gone the distance for what you have to pay for this beast. The hardware is poor as are the pickups. The tuners are sad...something you don't want when tuning this many strings. The finish was ok but the body wood is a disgrace. To be blunt it's a plywood body with a maple venere and a ash venere on the back. There is just no excuse for false literature in the catalogues and in this price range.

I got my custom G-1275 new, toward the end of 1996. It would have been one of the first ones in Australia because I waited a year for it- I had seen and been tempted by the standard bolt on neck version a few months prior to getting mine, but mine would be amongst the first customs with the set neck. It came in a carboard box, I had to wait another year to get the proper case- and a year is a long time when your in high school!

It's great, I have played Epiphone Les Pauls and Gibson Les Pauls, the experience left me thinking that Epiphones are crap, however this is NOT the case with the G-1275. It gives you that Gibson jangle sound that you want. It does not sound as good a Gibson Les Paul though- but it was less than half the price of a Les Paul, and a quarter of the price of a Gibson 2-neck (that ive never played)
If I were critical I'd say the sound was a bit "dull" but I spose thats what seperates the Gibsons from the Epiphones.

It really stands out as one of the best solid body Epiphones made. It just feels so solid and you can get the action way down without buzzing- as Ive mentioned before, I've played Epiphone Les Pauls before and they felt like they were gonna fall apart in my hands- but not this Epiphone. Everything was set up ready to go from the shop I got it from, it was a happy day for sure! My complaints are the machine heads- they feel cheap and they buzz, and the fact that its very neck heavy and takes a nosedive unless you have a grippy leather strap. I wonder in the Gibson one is more balanced- i spose the only way to balance it is to have a heavier body- and this one is heavy enough! The necks feels great, just the way I like them, the 12 string neck is a little wider than the 6, and a bit too wide for my tastes, but of course this is a neccecity, overall I'me very happy with the way the 12 string feels all things considered.

I must admit, since getting my Gibson Les Paul the 2-neck has been sitting fairly dormant, it was a bastard to transport on a train everyday. However, I have revived it now for a band I'm in www.prowler.com.au and it feels and sounds as good as ever. There was an electrical gremelin one of the capacitors that was soldered onto one of the pots had come loose- I dont know how because there is no movement in that area, esp since its been dormant.

Dont know, I didnt deal direct to Epiphone, for the amount of time that I was promised that somthing would get in the "next month" but never did honestly if thats Epiphones fault then I give that a ZERO. However I suspect its a common problem in the low volume market that is Australia- Ive know many people, bass players, drummers and other guitarists whove ordered somthing and its never come on time. Still, I think I waited the most.

I got this guitar because I wanted an electric 12 string, I considered the Gibson 2-neck and a rickenbacker 12 string, then like it was destined for me, I found out about that Epiphone are gonna start making the doubleneck, well it was the cheapest electric 12 string available and you know- 2 necks are better than one. Also at the time I wanted a Gibson Les Paul, well the 6 string neck helped get my fix in that as well. Someday I'd like to change the pickups for Gibson pickups and see if theres an improvement Im extremely happy with this guitar, it has its quirks but I hope I can keep it forever.

Epiphone G-1275 SG style double neck guitar 12 string and 6 string. This is a cherry red finish with alder body and mahagony neck(s). This has chrome hardware with the tailpiece that's further to the back when compared to gibson model. I read somewhere that the tailpiece is in the original position when gibson designed this back in the early 60's. Frets seem to be medium, and there's nice binding around the neck. Pickups are chrome 8.5k output 57 Humbuckers by gibson on the 12 string, the 6 string's pickups are uncovered 8.5 k epiphone pickups. The 6 string pickups are very hot and not balanced when compared to the 12 string. This was a concern to me especially when switching back and forth from 12 to 6 stings. Also, after 10 mo. I had the input jack fail of which Epiphone replaced the jack with a switchcraft input jack. I've decided to try to match the 6 strings out put to the 12 strings output by using 8.0k and 7.5 k chrome humbucking pickups, generic gibson PU's from E-Bay which. The tuners are OK, not expensive but they do hold pitch fairly well.
Sound
:

The guitar sounds great overall. I am replacing the pickups in the 6 strings to eliminate the excessive hot output that doesn't match well to the 12 string. The 12 string sounds accurate and probably sounds just like the gibson model. I was told that the pickups on the 12 and 6 are 57 humbuckers at 8.5k, the 12 side doesn't sound that hot, but the 6 string sounds only good with lots of distortion. I want to also have a nice clean sound which wasn't possible with the stock choice of pickups on the 6 string side. Keep those 6 string pickups if you like the black sabbath sound or lots of thick distortion. I really think Epiphone dropped the ball for the electronics on this guitar...I already had a warranty issue with the input jack, and the toggle switches are very cheap , and noisy. Now , the warranty is only parts , not labor. I'm replacing the pickups on the 6 string and replacing all the toggle switches.
The cool thing about this Epiphone compared to the gibson is the 3 way toggle switch that selects what neck you want...you can have both necks playing if you want...but it will drop your output in half since you'll be running 4 pickups or so...ie. both necks...it's cool to hit some harmonics on the 12 , and reach and play off of that on the 6 string ...also will produce some nice drone tones if you want as well...
I play alot of stuff that requires some 12 string sounds, since I'm the only guitarist I can switch to the 6 for a nice solo. Of course, you can always play stairway to heaven and acheive the exact same thing. I play alot of byrds and beatles, etc. so this guitar was perfect for the rock trio I work with.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:
7
The action is great on both necks. The 6 string is very slinky and very smooth. The 12 string is also very nice and easy for a 12 string. The intonation on the 6 string from the factory wasn't very good past the 12th fret, so I had to get that set up. The 12 string wasn't bad, plus it's difficult to get the intonation really perfect on a 12 string. Pickups were adjusted good, I just didn't care for the tone and output of the 6 string.
the finish is fine...the back of the necks are little lighter than the body...I was told it was the difference between the alder body and the mahagony necks, however; it's on the back , so folks don't really see it
the nuts and saddles are fine, the frets are fine..I'm not a fan of alder but in a solid body I don't think it's too crucial...When you've got this much electronics Epi shouldn't go cheap...that's the only draw back...
I was told by Epi..that the necks and body are assembled in nashville , but all the rest is made in korea..the reason that's this is a "custom" is that the neck sets and set up's are done by american Epi in nashville
Reliability/Durability
:
5
Well, the electronics aren't very reliable, so watch out. I was playing a gig in front of about 200 people and the input jack failed...I'm sure this didn't look good for gibson/epi; this guitar gets alot of looks on stage...you just don't see it on stage that much...I did contact my dealer and they replaced the input jack under warranty with a switchcraft. As a professional I demanded that the same "cheap" part not be used for replacement; I demanded a upgrade!
Other than the electronics , the guitar is stable, unless you got a bad neck set. I would check the set up, but overall the guitar wasn't bad. I do recommend that you use a good tuner for the 12 string for a while , it's a lot easier than tuning it by ear.

:

I did deal with Epiphone/gibson on the failed input jack , there were helpful and insightful. I was instructed to take it back to the dealer who was authorized for repair. I just wish that epiphone and gibson would make products like their customer support; there customer support is really good and professional!

Overall, this is great buy for the price. the gibson goes from about 2200.00 dollars, and I don't see much difference , except for wood and electronics. However, the epi plays about the same.
I am professional musician in the AFM (11-637) in good standing. I would use this guitar on gigs since the 12 and 6 string sound is important to my show. I don't have to worry about it being stolen since it's not a gibson; but I don't know how long epiphone will be making this guitar.

HERE IS A LITTLE FIX ....AN UNOFFICIAL FIX .....FOR THOSE EPIPHONE SWITCHES that can sometimes be finnicky
Remove the scratchplates and carefully lift the switches out and blow any dust or debris out of the cavities and then clean the switch with a small cloth and pass a piece of emery board between the contacts...clean once more. Then use a small rubber band ( oh about a 1/16th of an inch in diameter ( yes the type the newspaper gets curled up by) and wind the elastic band around the switch body ( where the contacts are)Make about 6 - 8 turns ....just make it snug....NOT OVERTIGHT voila ...a nice fix for the switches ...and its vibration proofed as well.

Just got this SG Doubleneck today and man is it a keeper. Same layout as Page's. Except its an Epi. Not sure of the wood, but its got a nice flametop to it. Made in Korea. My only problem with the guitar itself was that the rythm pup on the 6 was broken due to UPS being such a shitty mode of transportation. The copper plate below the pup where the screw ring meets the screw broke and would not stay in place. Gibson offered to provide a new pickup and gave me info on the place where I could get it fixed, in my city, just a few miles away. Also might I add that UPS really blows. The features are immaculate. The tone it gets when both necks are activated beats out any guitar I own. Even my Les Paul. The Necks are also somewhat thinner then usual Epi/Gibsons.

Updating earlier review. Put Seymour Duncan bridge & neck distortion pups on both necks. Very nice result for me. Also replaced the tuneomatic bridge on 6 string side. With one that helps accent the treble a little. Giving it more a single neck Sg type sound. Its an excellent instrument imo.

2003 model. Made in Korea, inspected in USA. USA designed pups See thru red with chrome hardware. Nice slim stable necks set into body. Chrome cover humbuckers on 12 string side, uncovered humbuckers on 6 string side. Bought with fitted hardshell case. Theres been several versions of this instrument, diff woods & pups used. Mine has maple necks, mahogany body with maple top. Rosewood fretboard. Short scale both sides. 20 frets each side. Abilone inlays on fretboards, white binding on necks. Seperate 3 way pup selector for each neck. 1 vol 1 tone for each neck. 3 way neck selector. Single output jack for both necks.
Mine weighs right around 12 & a half pounds. Bout the same as a les paul. Balances pretty good. When not holding either neck it goes allmost but not quite parralel to floor. So no serious neck dive like some peeps versions do.

The stock pups are better imo then the stock gibson pups I had on the Gib SG Standard I used to have. Better crunch & better sustain then the gib pups. The latter had terrible sustain due to notes starting to fade out then just drop out. Not smooth fade out like this Epi. While both sides pups are nice, I actually like the ones on the 6 string side best. So is replacing the 12 strings pups with either Dimarzio super distortion for bridge & air norton for neck. Had concidered Seymour Duncan neck & bridge distortion set, but thinks the Dimarzios will give it more the basic char of John Mclaughlins doubleneck. Dimarzio made his custom pups for the Gibson doubleneck he had, before Dimarzio started marketting after market pups. The Es stock pups have pretty good crunch and rich sound esp on the 6 string side imo. I use a Zoom Player 3000 for processing and pair of Minx110 bass combo amps with it. (I also play bass & synths so needs system thaworks well for all 3. Which the minx's do very well). Alternateley I play guitar thru a Marshall M30DFX with a Marshall Guvnor pedal cascading into the amps overdrive/distortion channal. With the amps fdd turned off. Gets very good sound with the Epi doubleneck stock thru both systems. But will have better for me sound with the 12 strings pups replaced as indicated.
Likes how the necks are set into body with less rearward angle then on the Gibsons. Less damage prone imo. Likes 3 way neck selector & sep pup selectors for each neck.
Sound is well suited for any music style imo.

This is actually my 4th doubleneck 1st was a gibson bass & guitar combo. 2nd & 3rd where also a bass guitar combo. One was custom lutheir from UK made when I lived over there. Other was 1970's Ibanez. So this is my first 12 & 6 string guitar version. Likes it the best of ones I owned. As with most mfg, the strap buttons where too narrow to safely hold strap. So replaced those with wide top ones. Well made instrument. Build to last.

I dont know why epiphone changes the woods used so often on some of their instruments. But thinks my version is best one. Likes maple necks, mahogany body, maple top combo. But the instrument is now no longer being made. Thinks my version is part of he last batch made. Epi did the same thing with their thunderbird bass. Making it with 3 diff configurations for neck & body woods during about a two year time. Has played for more then 20 years. Glad I finally got around to getting a 12 & 6 string version of doubleneck. The other 3 where lacking in bass guitar preferances for sound. And twin guitar version works better for when running both neck for sympathetic vibrations between necks. LOL.

Good looking instrument but IT'S A COPY !! it's not the original, don't think you have the same quality as a real Gibson, you have to put a new set of p.u. on this guitar. It's fun to play, but it's damn heavy and the six string is not for frets burner. For the price it's a good deal, but you have to make some enhancement to have a decent instrument.

Specs? You know what they are, however, Epiphone has put out several versions of this guitar, there are some with bolt on necks and some with glued-in necks. The one I bought has glued-in necks! Stay away from the bolt-ons, don't fret about the asians, they are turning out some good wood!

The 12 string is built to near perfection. I had a Gibson twin neck in the early 70's, had to sell it and I always wanted to replace it with another one. Then came this Epi, W O W ! While sitting, the 12 strings neck is positioned perfectly, both necks stay in tune (even if you beat on this thing, it stays true!)
I did some alterations, replaced the pick-ups with real Gibson ones, replaced the epi bridges with AR1's (this really does wonders), therefore, the sound? Just like my old Gibson....

Mine is a brand new 2003 model, At the time of writing its only about 2 months old. Here are the basics, its a twin neck 12/6 string combo guitar, cherry red finish( this will be changed latert to a black finish to be more like Slash's guitar )2 chrome covered humbuckers for the 12 string and 2 open humbuckers for the 6 string. 1 switch to choose between each neck, and a switc per neck to choose pickups. When I bought it I got 2 set of string with it and a free stand cause the guy couldnt find me a case for it. I had one made after any way.

THis guitat sounds SH*t hot, its perfect for my style of playing, which is anything from Cream to Metallica. Artist I cover with my band are Clapton, Moore, GNR, MR. BIG, Alice in Chains, and a load of chart stuff, oh and of course LZ. When this guiter comes out for stairway the place goes mad!. I play it through 2 amp's a Fender 65 DSP and a marshall G80RCD, Experiment with this guitar, you can get some crazy harmonics from the strings behind the bridge and great sound from selcting both necks when playing either neck. I love the sound of this guitar BUT the pickups for lead are a little cheapish so it only gets a nine cause I'm gonna change them

Finish was perfect BUT I have had a couple of epiphones before and the setup out of the factory is terrible. it was the same with this one, the action was way too high and the intonation was out as well, I take all my guitars when i buy them either new or old to a guitar tech and get them properly setup, its only about 30 quid so its worth the money. For a guitar of this price it's the biggest let down. Not good enough Epiphone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone who has one of these will know that its heavy, and also that the head has an annoying habit of dropping towards the floor, I found a way around this by moving the strap nut from the 12 string neck to the 6 string neck, this keeps the head up and makes it easier to play.
This a guitar is solid, but I NEVER play without a backup,

I have been playing for over 10 years and this is a fab guitar, But it is too heavy and big to use it for a full set, I will never sell it cause epiphone actually stopped making them for a while about two years ago and they probably wont make them forever. If you get the chance to buy one, get it for the collector value alone. I also have an Epiphone Les Paul Custom, Fender Super Strat and a BC Rich Mockingbird so I have a few to choose from. Eiphone suffers with their setup, it was very bad thats the only thing i can fault this guitar for but thats really down to the company NOT the actuall axe.

Mine's a 1999 model, cherry red a la Page's Gibson and that's the reason I bought, total Page-ophile. I was walking along a street in Montreal (I live in Ireland) saw it in the windown of the store for $750 Canadian and it just screamed 'buy me'. so i did.
The features are the same as everybody else's I guess so no point adding them save to say it's basically an SG six string and then the 12. It's all very switchable with both necks on or choosable singly. It's a mahogany body and neck I think and the fingerboard is rosewood or somesuch but those things have never mattered to me. The only questions are, is it playable and does it sound nice, and the answers are yes to both.
Sound
:

Initially I bought the 1275 just to have, to look cool and add to my collection of Page-ish guitars, Tele, Les Paul, Dano etc, but I've recently been using it a lot when recording in my home studio, though really only the 12 string. I use other electric for the tough stuff as the SG is a bitch to sit comfortably with, is heavy and too fussy to solo on comfortably. I'll taker my old cheapo Hohner Strat copy for those tasks anyday. Having said that the tone of the 6 string is fat and juicy when overdriven through my AC30 and a Tube Screamer and if I ever need to indulge any Angus Young tendencies then I guess the 6 string would do the job nicely.
Mostly though it's the 12 I use either in standard tuning, though a lot in open G for sparkling, massive washes of guitar to compliment an acoustic in G or a dobro. and for this it's superb. I either DI it into my roland vs2480 or clean through a fender stage 112 or through my Korg AX1000G and into the desk. In the middle selector position the 1275 comes up trump, with a wonderful sparkle, almost harpsichord like when picked and EQ'd the right way. It may be something of an affectation but what a great little weapon to have in the sonic armoury
Action, Fit, & Finish
:
7
The action is fine on the 12 string but the 6 has quite a high action and I'm more comfortable with a very low, easy action. I know SGs are like this anyway, but it's somethingh that puts me off slightly. The finish is fine though I've noticed that I have managed to somehow lose a couple of screws from the scratchplate. The switchgear is all okay and works fine, though the fitting is a little on the haphazard side. But when you consider how much you'd pay for a Gibson then this is no real hardship.

I don't see any reason, aside from constant visits to a chropractor, why you couldn't use this live. It weighs a ton though and is best employed once or twice during a set, I certainly wouldn't fancy lugging this thing around for an hour and a half!
I would imagine the onlyu difficult you would have is getting the tone of the 12 right live. 12s are notoriuously difficult to get right and the sound can often be painfully harsh or just confused. Careful amplification and eqing a must I reckon.

I've been playing nearly 20 years, mostly rock though with blast of acid jazz and jazz funk through the years and own a whole bunch of stuff. Overall the G1275 is not a first or only guitar. That should be a Tele or Strat. This is a bit of fun, something a little over the top in which to indulge your prog-rock/spinal tap fantasies. It is very playable and of definite value as an extra trick up your sleeve however and a doubleneck definitely warrants inclusion in the canon of axes you should own

Mine is a 2002 model, the Custom according to the literature. It has the exposed humbuckers on the 6 string side. I won't list all of the features as they are the same as most everyone else has listed. I will add that I was shocked when I picked it up from the store I bought it from. While the body is mahogany, it had a beautiful maple flame venire top. Really deep and gorgeous. I was surprised to find that on an Epiphone. Huh. Overall, I think the features are great. Lots of knobs and switches...what fun.

So how does it sound? In my opinion, great. I'm using this guitar with a Peavey 5150 combo, a Boss RV3 Reverb (the reverb on the 5150 sucks)a Boss CE5 Chorus Ensemble, and now a Danelectro (don't laugh) Fish and Chips EQ. The 12 string side is great. Rich and full sounding. But to get it to sound good thru the amp, I recommend using both the neck and bridge pickups to get a nice blended tone. Otherwise, the bridge alone is too trebely, and the neck is too muddy. Use the middle position, you'll sound just fine. I never use the EQ pedal for my other guitars, but I've noticed with a 12 string the EQ really shapes the sound well. The real surprise I got was on the 6 string side. As it is basically an Epiphone SG, I was not expecting a whole lot. I bought this guitar for the 12 string. When plugged into the 5150, the six string side cooks. It sounds full, thick, and very nice. Early VH sound. And the neck pickup is very smooth and buttery. Great guitar. Both necks are a real pleasure to play and listen too. Clean is where the 12 shines. I use a little chorus to fatten it up even more. The 6 roars with the 5150's over the top distortion. Never would have guessed that. It is muddy, yet sharp and articulate at the same time.

Here is where things start to go bad. I ordered this guitar thru the guitar shop. So it came set up from the factory. I had it reset up by the shop before I picked it up. From what they told me, it was really bad. Intonation way out. Action way off. I like mine super low though, so I'll go easy on that. Anyway, once they reset up and restrung it, this guitar sounded great, felt great, played great. Then I got it home, and the pickup switch on the 12 string started acting up. That is being replaced as I write this. Also, some of the tuners were loose, making a rattling sound when the neck vibrated. Honestly, just stupid, easily fixed stuff that should never have had to have been fixed. Are you reading this Epiphone? NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAD TO BEEN FIXED. The finish, as mentioned before was fantastic. I was surprised. The necks seem nice and straight, very playable. The 12 string side is very nicely spaced and is easy to play. Overall, the quality is really good, just half ass quality control at Epiphone. Get it together guys. How hard is it to make a switch that works from the factory? I'm rating this a 6 from the factory, and a 10 from the great guys at Dave Phillips Music in Phillipsburg NJ who fixed Epiphone's crud.

Overall, this guitar will last forever if treated well. It is very, very heavy. The wood on this particular guitar seems to be of a good quality. The tone is great. It seems very durable. The hardware is tight. I have a feeling that one day those tuners will have to be replaced. I think that this guitar would withstand live playing just fine. How long your back lasts is another story.

I've been playing about 13 years. The reason I bought it was because I really wanted a 12 string, and for the money, I just thought a doubleneck was really cool. I love the tone and the sustain of this guitar. Besides this guitar, I have a Wolfgang, an Ibanez, and a few other cheapo electrics. The Epiphone really surprised me and I respect it as much as my Wolfgang. I love them both for different reasons. Different tone and feel. I do with the 12 had locking tuners, as 12 strings have a reputation for going out of tune. Mine has stayed in tune very well though. Overall, I love this guitar, would buy it again in a heartbeat, and would recommend it to anyone.

I found this guitar in a pawn shop in Tulsa, Ok. I've always wanted one, not sure why though. Any how, it was stashed in a corner, covered half up with a blanket and dust. Boy was it dusty. I asked to see it, it was handed to me, did'nt plug it in, just tuned it,asked how much...575. well it's been here forever can you give 500. Sure,I said.
The wife was skeptical at first, but the gleam in my eye was more than she could handle. That was my valentines present for 2000. I played it alot at first, but have slowed some lately. My children have decided that when I pass, heaven forbid, but someday it will come. They are going to fix up a display case with pics and pictures, and pass it down for generations.

The finish is great, durable any way. I've never dropped it or bumped it very hard, but it don't have a knick on it anywhere. The high E tuning knob has a little trouble holding, at this time it may be the string. One broke one evening and shame on me, no spare, had to borrow one. I don't really recall having a hold problem before that. As far as the 12 string goes, I was a little troubled by the closeness of the strings, Hotel California and Here Comes The Sun have giving me a work out, both are played with a capo on the 7th fret. My former 12 string which was an Alverez had a wider neck, that's about my only complaint here.

My first real guitar was a Fender 72 Tele custom deluxe, got poor, had to trade it off to keep warm that winter. I miss that guitar alot. Since then I've played many, kept none. This one is a keeper, if stolen I will hunt the culprit down, drag them off to the woods, cut their fingers off, hang them from a tall tree with a sign around their neck that says,,,,THOU SHALT NOT STEAL. Currently I also have a Johnson acoustis electric, thin body, cut away. I love it to. I have in my garage a hole pile of junk bodies and necks. I had the bright idea that I would take a cheap mustang and turn it into a blues howlin strat,, lol,,, money is the hold up on that project. When all the kids are away, the house is finished I plan on enlarging my collection, Les Paul Golden, SG 400, Custom Fat Strat, and would really like to find my old Tele, just to start the list. By trade I'm a heavy equip. operator, hourly foreman, My loveliest wife in the whole world designs kicthen and bath cabinets plus floor coverings. One day Garth Brooks was in her place of employment, I happened to be ther also that day. She introduced me to him, a real nice fellow he is. He asked me "What do you do?" in a fumbling stuttering voice I answered," I,,I aa I play guitar." It seems that everyone in the store heard, and got a big laugh, that's okay with me, that was one moment for me. I love my 1275, I love to play, I play for fun and enjoyment. When thats gone What's left. Keep those left finger calouses and crank it up.......

I love Led Zeppelin, I have since I was 10 years old, I love the loud raunchy sound that Jimmy Page gets while on stage. This is almost an exact duplication of the sound, at least if you know how to set it and also if you have a decent amp. It was kind of muddy so I installed a coil splitter pot so i can split te coils on the 6 string. Now its perfect and some of the muddiness goes away when my amp is cranked to 10. It has the usual doubleneck features, as in four humbuckers (the ones under the six string neck are un-covered), a master volume and tone for each neck, a pickup selector for each neck, and a neck selector. The pickups seem far hotter than regular Epiphone pickups, and I've heard that the pickups on the special model doubleneck are different, so there ya go. The necks feel pretty good, even though it's not really possible to have them both at a good height. I find the best way is to use the bottom strap button (there's one under each neck) and then adjust so that the 12 string side is a little too high and the 6 string is a little too low. The bridges are regular tune-o-matics but the stop pieces are _really_ far back; I found that some brands of strings just plain aren't long enough to reach from the stop piece to the high g tuning peg on the 12 string. I have the red finish, it's partially transparent and the body wood seems to have a bit of flame underneath; it's quite nice. It's a real bitch to keep in tune though. And the hardcase is soooo huge, I'm using it as a coffee table.

It sounds a lot better than I expected. The six string side has a real ZZ Top sound to it, a solid crunch that's excellent for hard rock. The neck pickup in particular is very good on this side. Clean it sounds solid (perhaps due to the fact that it's attached to 20 pounds of mahogany <g>) but not really anything special. The 12 string side sounds a bit mushy with just the bridge pickup, but with both on it sounds amazing. A sweet swirly tone that just blows the hell out of anything else. And distorted, the 12 string side _rocks_. It has the most loud, solid crunch. It doesn't sound all wussy like a rickenbacker or muddy like a fender- it really rings true and sounds great.

Well, yeah... Actually, it was put together very well. All the bindings, joints, etc are very solid. The bridge on the 6 string side is kinda falling apart and may have to be replaced. And the tuners are a bit weak, but that's Epi for ya.

This guitar is a rock. There's no way it _couldn't_ withstand live playing. I guess I'd only be worried about keeping it in tune- keeping 18 strings under control is no mean feat, and would probably be tough even with Schaller's instead of the Epi wannabe Grovers. I suppose breaking a string wouldn't be so tough live- if you break one on the 12 side no one would notice, and if you broke one on the 6 side, well, you're already holding your replacement =)

Never had to deal with them, although I hear that as long as you don't modify your guitar (which must be pretty rare with Epiphones <g>) it's a lifetime warranty, no questions asked. So I dunno, but it's probably good.

Well, I've been playing for a while; 5 or 6 years I guess. I've got a lot of other guitars, or _had_ a lot. Now I've only got nine. I bought this guitar on a whim, rather like a lot of my other ones, but I'm glad I did because it's SWEET =) Totally worth buying, if you can find one =) If I could change anything about it, I'd put in separate controls for each neck, but there'd be nowhere to put them so what can ya do? =)

haven't played any live shows, so i wouldn't know how it stands through a tour or anything. i think it's made of the same stuff the gibson model is, and that one survived when jimmy page took it on tour. i think it'd manage just fine.

This piece was probably manufactured in 1999 judging by the serial number on the back of one of the headstocks. Goregeous cherry-red see-thru finish. Body has a flame veneer. The necks are mahogany. This guitar is quite heavy to hold up but an additional strap button behind the six-string neck bolt combined with a wide strap seems to have abated that problem. 2 volume and two tone controls (master volume and master tone for each neck. Pickup switch for each neck (VERY cool and superior to the Gibson wiring) and a neck selector switch. Pickups are Gibson/Epi 490 humbuckers. Very strong sound but the 12-st neck squeals at high volumes which is dealt with by running the volume at 7.5 on the pot. Body style is similar to Jimmy Page's model-SG style. The tuners, while resembling an "old man's decaying teeth" are adequate and work rather well. The neck length (20 frets) isn't too cool since high register passages aren't practical here. But the other features and overall sound more than make up. Case is hardshell (extra bucks). The electronics are completely passive. The necks are shaped so comfortably that I could play this all day (seated, of course!).I LOVE this guitar!!!!

My music style is rock, pop and neo-classic. It suits my needs perfectly. I've added my usual Roland GK-2A pickup to the six string neck for use with my rig (Roland VG8EX and GR-33). I play the straight guitar sound thru a Line 6 POD. The pickups are quite quiet as far as noise goes. You can play almost anything with this rig but it seems most suitable for situations where a double neck and it's possibilities outweigh carrying several guitars to a gig. I record with it all the time and it stacks up great there. A very warn Gibson-like sound.
The 12-string neck, in particular, sounds fantastic, probably due to the extra body mass.

I bought this guitar because I always wanted one and couldn't beat the price. I play mostly classic rock and blues which this guitar fits right in with. I play mine through a Fender Harvard Reverb II and a Peavy Studio Chorus 70. The sound I get from either of these amps with this guitar on any setting is excellent. This one is modeled after Jimmy Page's who considered his a television antenna because of the feedback it picked up but this one is nothing like that. Very little feedback comes from it and it sounds great. I'm not sure if I'd replace the pick-ups on this guitar; they're pretty good.

I've been playing for 18 years now I own a Gibson SG, '84 Squire Stratocaster and a Squire Precision Bass. If anything ever happened to this guitar I'd be real bummed out. It's my understandind that Epiophone quit making these in '98 and they're hard to come by. It's just as good as it's Gibson counterpart but much more affordable. It requires a heavy guitar strap due to it's weight and the necks have a tendency to do a nosedive to the floor if you let go of it. It's awkward to play at first but it's not hard to get used to. I found that the best way to balence it is to use your right arm to stablise the guitar while you're playing it so you don't have to hold it up with your left hand. I think this guitar was designed to be played fast and the action is great.

my double neck gibson Epiphone G-1275 is a rental. I'm just checking it out to see if this is worth buying. I have a "poor man's" Les Paul. It's a 1970 Hagstrom "Swede". It's a great guitar. I've been looking for something that I can cover more ground with, hence, the Epiphone G-1275 seems like a good choice. You would never be able to tell that the guitar was built in Korea. It's fantastic. I find that the frets are good but the only downside is there are not enough. If you are mostly a rhythm guitarist in your band, like I am, this isn't really an issue. However, if you want to try and play the "stairway to Heaven" solo, you might as well forget it. The six string has two double coil pickups and the 12 string has two humbuckers. The body is maple and the finish is a beautiful cherry red colour, but I agree with what another person said about it not being as nice as the les paul version...but who really cares about that right? To describe the body style...think Angus Younge's guitar doubled. The bridge style is standard I guess like any other guitar. One chap was commenting about nut problems, but fortunately, I have had none. The neck on the six string is very small and the 12 string is significantly larger. I am renting the guitar with a case and it has an inner protective shell to keep the guitar from scratches etc.

It is perfect for my music style. I can cover a variety of sounds. I once rented a fender "jaguire" 12 string to do some recording and it sounded truely awful! I found when you would distort the 12 string, it would sound like a big wall of mud - not this guitar! it sounds wicked!! I also love the pick-ups and the variety of tones the toggle switches give you. This guitar sounds great when distorted which is a good thing for me. And for clean tones, the twelve string sounds very mid-rangey... which a 12 string should sound like in my opinion. As far as noise is concerned none at all from what I can hear, or no more than any other standard issue I can think of. By the way, that's why I hate fender so much... the goddamn noise from the pickups. They sound superb for clean tones, but ad distortion and it's like forget it! The six string alone is reason enough to make me want to buy this guitar. It sounds rich and creamy. One downfall, is that it's hard to see what you are playing on the bottom guitar but I think that's just a matter of adjusting the strap to a higher position. I liked that one guy's idea of adding a strap hook to the bottom of the guitar to keep it from "nose diving", but until I did something like that, I wouldn't let go of it for fear of dropping it!!

I can't comment very much on this section since I just rented the guitar last week... but I tell you this, I'd play the guitar without a back up for sure! in closing, those are my remarks. I think this is a great guitar with many sounds and features. It give a rich full tone on the 12 string on ballad songs and a bigger richer tone for the heavier tunes... as for the 6 string, I think it sounds as good if not better than my hagstrom six string. I do know that it stays in tune very well too....
one more thing I must comment on! the "high g sting" on the 12 string and the "high d string" on the 12 string are awful to tune. the neck is simply too long for the stings and therfor you can only wrap the sting once... there just isn't enough slack... can anyone tell me how to correct this problem?

I am spoiled. I have the world's greatest guitar (IMHO anyway), a 69' Gibson 335 TD with an exttremely thin neck and modified with a Tune-omatic/stop bar, Duncan Humbucker and Grover Tuners. (I know those modifications have depreciated my 335 by at least $500.00, but so what I am never going to sell it). So what does that have to do with my Epiphone G-1275? Well, you see, I was just about to purchase a Gibson 335 12 String from Ed for 1900.00 sight unseen, cash up front, when I discovered the the Epiphone G-1275. The salesman tried to stear me to the Gibson SG Doubleneck, but to make a long story short. I played them both and eyed them both and the Epiphone is a better guitar.

The sound is fabulous. At least, equal to the Gibson if not better. Frankly, I like the sound of the 12 String better than any that I have played. The six string is as good or better that the Gibson SG. The 6 string has a better sound than the Les Paul, Strat, Tele, Kramer, Washburn, you name it.

Again, I will have to give it a lower rating for durability because I think that over time the wood will be easily dented and scratched, but Willie Nelson plays a Martin with a hole worn in it so who cares, especially at these prices?

This is an updated review after using this guitar for almost 3 years.
There were a few factory problems. None were serious.
1. The nut on the 6 string was not glued properly. It was on a slight angle.
2. The pickups had sloppy wax potting which hampered adjusting heights.
3. Because it is neck heavy it is difficult to play while standing.
If you let go of the neck it will do a nose dive.
This was an easy fix. I installed a strap button on the back of the 6 string neck. That, along with using a wide leather strap, cured the problem.
This guitar plays like butter and sounds excellent either clean or distorted. I am now using a 1963 Fender Vibroverb reissue tube amp.
Mine is a Custom model with set necks, Alpine white.
4. The finish is not as durable as I expected. I have never dropped it or bumped in to anything but there is a chip on the back edge.
I don't play it as often as I would like because it is heavy and awkward. But I'm an old fart and I'm getting lazy.
5. I don't care for the aged green looking tuners but they operate well and stay in tune.
Many Epiphones need the tuners and pickups replaced but this guitar is an excepton. The PAF's sound just like PAF's should. No feedback and no microphonics. I am always amazed at the playability and sound of this guitar.
I play out regularly. My main axe at this time is an American Fat Telecaster. But my doubleneck out plays the Fender.
I am considering buying an SG 6 string. I tried a G-400 Custom (3 pickups) and like it but it does not have the same pickups as my doubleneck. Epiphone sells pickups but they cost close to that of Gibson PAF's (reissue's). I may opt for a Gibson 1962 Reissue SG (Les Paul). The G-400 Custom with case will cost around $500. Replacing the pickups will be another $300 or more. Just food for thought.

You know the features, 20 frets, 6&12 strings, etc. Mine is a little weird, as It is brand new from epiphone but is stamped a 2nd due to a small scratch in back of the neck. Hell, it shaved off almost $500 and still came with a full lifetime warrenty. How could you not go wrong? It seems like a Gibson body with Epi. necks as the necks are bolted and the strings don't extend far past the bridge like the Epi model does. The 6 string side has chrome pickup covers also, nothing seems to match the standard! However, for the price I can't bitch about anything quality wise on this guitar, cosmetically almost perfect, and sounds almost as good as a Gibson. (I'm not going to go into the Gibson vs Epiphone as we all have our own opinions about this subject and this site is loaded with all the pro's and cons.) Mine is a very handsome cherry with the black pickguard. Humbucker pickups with the new Alnico magnets. Even with the small scratch that is only about 1/4 inch in the back, I have to give this guitar a 10 as it is quite impressive to look at .

This guitar will sound like any Epipiphone or Gibson doubleneck.I have played both and can't see the $2,000 difference. Yeah, you could put better pickups in it and really beef it up and still save money than getting a real Gibson. I only put it into a practice Crate for now, but had it into my buddy's set of stacked Marshalls once, and the sound was there. It depends on your preference, but the standard electronics are pretty good. Blasting in Grover tuners and hotter pickups is the usual for Epi products and will give you a very good guitar for what you spend. My guitar came set up VERY well, intonation was almost perfect, action was a little high and didn't have to take her down much at all. The 6 string doesn't match that Les Paul sound, but it wasn't meant to. Almost no buzzing, and each neck really does have its own unique sound, very rich and crisp.I could play the 12 string portion all night.

I can't complain about too much here, even though its a factory second due to a cosmetic flaw. The price reduction for a small scratch was compensation 10 fold! The body on this guitar is nicer than my cherry dining room set, but what I can't stand is that they put those stupid stickers on the chrome covers of the pickups, and its a pain in the ass to remove the glue residue off them. The neck color differs ever so slightly were it is minimal. I have had problems in the past with Epi's selector switches, so far these seem quiet and functional, time will tell.Tuners are typical Epiphone, cheap and ugly looking, but they seem to stay in tune for a long time, I was surprised.

I treat my Guns and Guitars as if they were the Holy Grail! I could not ever imagine anything I own with a scratch caused by me,but stuff happens. This seems to be a tank, strap buttons are very secure, and I don't forsee anything fragile about it. The only limitation about this axe is the strings and strap you put on it. This Guitar is not meant to be played alone as I will explain in the next section, so a backup catagory does not apply here. If you play live with this, everybody will be looking at you and not your bandmates, so dont pick your nose or scratch your nuts while you jam on this, it is quite the axe to the average person.

OK ,here is a little negativity about this guitar. Some of the other reviews below me are quite accurate. This axe is meant for a few chosen tunes, not for an entire set. (Unless your father is a chiropractor!)I still can't find a way to play this standing up comfortably, but it will happen over time. It is extremely difficult to get used to, and as someone else said, the necks will actually fall to the floor once you strap it on, you really have to hold it up as you are playing. Get yourself a very wide strap for this, it will take away much of the difficulty. Have fun reaching anything above the 15th fret on ANY neck, the design sucks that bad. One thing I was surprised not to hear about on other reviews is the neck selector switch right near the bridges. It gets in your way BIG TIME if you play the 6 string portion, but that is also on the Gibson version. If anyone would like to ask me a question, or if you have any useful advice about these guitars, contact me at ggski@adelphia.net and I'll be glad to help or learn. If you are considering buying one, look on Ebay for a particular company who sells seconds, they are only very minor cosmetic flaws and have a full lifetime warranty. I am by no means sorry I bought this, and once you play this baby and then pick up a normal guitar, a standard 6 string seems like a piece of cake. It made me better in that sense. Anyone who plays guitar should have one of these babys in his bag, be it a Gibson or Epi, they are good sounding, attention getters, and really cool to play and look at. Good luck to you!

This is a Korean made Epiphone G-1275 SG Doubleneck. It has 22 frets. The body seems to be solid Mahogany. I have a Hagstrom Swede so it seems to match that quite well so I'm pretty damn sure about the wood. Also I know the neck is definately mahogany and the body matches that. All the pickups are the Chrome covered ones. No Case came with this one. In seeing the other posts here I was quite perplexed. Seems like maybe these things are being made differently all the time but with the same basic hardware but with maybe some pickup variation. Perhaps due to availability of different woods and finishes they are made a little bit diferently. Mine has the Translucent red finish. There were two identicle ones here at my local music store. In some ways this description sounds very different from some of these guitars mentioned thus far. I counted the frets several times. I swear. Its a mystery. The stickers on the back say made in Korea and inspected/setup in the US. And the Mahogany body, thats great for me I know but it sure is a quandry. So far I think the guitar is great.

Like everyone else I love the sound. How could I not. I origionaly had a Les Paul Custom shop on layaway here at my local music store but ended up having to use the money on a POD as I couldnt afford the Les Paul and was taking a bit too long to pay for it. ( Im kinda known as the Layaway kid there, allways working on paying something off. Help mmma, I'm an equipment addict!) So I was a little depressed till I got the doubleneck. God what a great sounding guitar this one was. Sustain out the Wazoo..............and heavy by god and most peoples standards..... but I'm a big man and "he aint heavy he's my bother". Anyway, not too bad.............my Hagstrom Swede weighs in pretty close but its like 1 1/2 times as thick too. So far I've only used it through the POD and in my setup at home so I havn't really cranked the volume yet so I dont know if it squeels. So far she sounds too good to be true.

Well, in this catagory she left a little to be desired but has been nothing I couldnt work on............the bridge pickup on the six string was just a tad bit out of position (about a 1/32 or 1/16th" low) but that was easy to fix once I did a wee bit of sanding on the middle guard and broke out my dremel tool to reposition the holes on the pickup cover. Nothing you could see. Im satisfied for the time being with the setup but am definately going to take her to the repair god soon and get his opinion and get him to set her up. We have several great private repair persons around here. I think the fit and finish on my guitar was quite nice. For a mass manufactured guitar it seems most of the people building her cared about what they were doing. Seems like most Korean guitars these days are pretty good. (they used to suck. I guess like they say Korea is the Japan of the 00s) I have a Hammer Salamander series Strat copy that is beautifuly built for instance. (come to think about it that guitar has some differences form other guitars made at the same time as wel. adding further conviction to my assumption mentioned bellow) Anyway short of the pickup problem and the fact that she was set up just a tad bit high I'm well satisfied. (Mine did not have sloppy glue joints anywhere not even at the nut)

We will see. I'm going to contact them on Monday about the anomalies with my guitar and my suspicions about their (the Korean manufacturers) use of woods and see what kind of response I get. I have an old car from 1959 (a 1959 Plymouth Belvedere for those of you in the know: "Christine"s sister) and know alot of other folk with the same car. Different manufacturers of the same car and even the same factory durring different times of the year used different finishes on the same vehicle according to what they were shipped or could aquire. Sometimes the basis of product usage was availability and price. I may be wrong but I think this may be the case with woods and finishes and maybe even the case with the neck on my guitar and their use in various Korean factories. Again there were two identicle Epiphone G-1275 SG Doublenecks at my music store. Perhaps they were given a lot of slightly off necks by Gibson.......................but then again they used Maple on the Gibson didnt they? Its a quandry!!!

Ive been playing music for about 25 years. All kinds of instruments. I considered myself primarily a bass player/Keyboard programer till about 3 years ago when I bought My Hagstrom Swede. I am definately now and probobly have been for much longer than I thought a guitar player. 3 years very serious now. (I actually am begening to understand theory and the like if that says anything.) Perhaps that is why my bass playing was considered much too Les 'Claypool like. (Just another frustrated bass player who wants to play guitar methinks. LOLOf course the first electric instrument I just happened to ever see in my hand just happened to be a bass. "Dad can I get it?") I think if this guitar were lost or stollen I'd either get another one or graduate to a Gibson. Of course it would get the mandatory switches fixed onto her. I love the price on this guitar............and I play alot of accoustic 12 string so this is right up my alley. What I love about this guitar is I can experiment with using an electric 12 that doesnt have that sissy Rickenbacher 12 string sound about it. Yes, I love the sound as well but am still considering adding better pickups in the 6 string area. If I could add any features it would be in and out of phase switches for each pickup, this I am planning on doing since the guitar was so cheap and I dont have to worry so much about its collectability. I'm considering adding them so if anyone has allready done this please contact me and let me know if you felt the improvement was significant. Also as long as I'm wishing, a better nut and perhps a better setup would have been nice but then again for the money it was pretty good. Perhaps jumbo frets? Anyway.............peace out.

Nope, but filled it out anyway. Saw my old bass player from my LA days on the actual Epiphone brochure...who'd a thunk it? I thought he was going to Nashville to become a star!.

This is a Korean made copy of the 1960's EDS-1275 that Jimmy Page played. Set mahogany necks, 20 frets on a 24.75" scale. Basically, in terms of features, just look at a picture of Jimmy Page's. It differs from modern EDS-1275's by the extended 12 string headstock and the string anchors being further back. The humbuckers on the 12 string neck have chrome covers, for no other reason than that Jimmy's is set up that way. The body is alder, with a AAA grade flame maple veneer top. It is finished in a standard Gibson translucent cherry red. One crucial difference between the Gibson and the Epiphone is the addition of independent pickup switches for each neck, a major oversight for the Gibson. Oh, and the Epiphone inlays on the headstocks are of some kind of real abalone(exactly what type I can't say), a lot nicer than just a printed 'Gibson' logo. The recent introduction of abalam has definitely been good, as now beautiful inlays can now be had on mass production models. May be all computer routed, but it still looks pretty. Due to the inherent nature of the design, the E, A, and D strings on the six string neck as well as the B and E pairs on the twelve string neck are a massive headache when changing strings, for not only can you not use a string winder, its really awkward to get your fingers in there for some major twisting. Normal tuning is just fine however.

The sound is wonderful. Due to the mass of the doubleneck body, sustain is had in droves, equal to that of a Gibson Les Paul Standard, and far better than any SG. The twelve string neck in particular is impressive, with a rich shimmering resonance that I still can't get over. It isn't a Rickenbacker, but it still cuts through like mad on the bridge pickup, and is far more versatile in sound, not to mention way more playable with the Gibson width neck. The six string neck is anemic unless you run heavy gauge strings(I currently use .012's), in which case it has a warm sound that is all about sustain, and with the right amp setup it sings quite like a violin. The pickups are dead silent;you'll only do better with EMG's. They sound like Gibson's pretty much, and in a side by side comparison with a $1500 SG in the shop, far cleaner in sound. I never expected the two necks to differ so much in sonic character, but they do. Quite a plus. I may upgrade the pickups on the six string neck to high output Gibsons(500T's), but it sounds just fine now, I may never get around to forking out $200 for the privilege. Oh, the chrome pickups on the twelve string neck are microphonic at high gain(they squeal). I use a noise gate to deal with that issue.

One obviously asks the question when considering this instrument as to the differences between this and the Gibson. Well, here it is. There are a couple of minor finish flaws, although overall it is equal to the finish on my '76 reissue Gibson Explorer(no longer own). The finish itself is durable as hell, as I don't treat the thing like it is some kind of religious artifact. It gets kicked around, and there are no chips at all(the aforementioned Explorer's finished chipped in a couple places). The nuts must have been installed first thing Monday morning with some giant corporate manufacturing deadline looming because the install sucks, period. One can see the slop surrounding it, although playability was only affected on the six string neck. The fret installation is as good as can be expected from a machine - the thing could benefit from some time on a neck jig and a professional crowning. I'll probably get jumbo frets retrofitted at some point. But for now, the action could be wicked low, but it's slightly higher than it could be due to the fret buzz. The action is still commendably low and quite playable. The necks are shaped perfectly - I've always been a fan of Gibson necks, and in the shaping of the wood is where the beauty of factory CNC machines becomes apparent. They're all identical. And the wood used seems(so far at least) to be quality stuff, as the necks haven't been doing anything psychotic. To sum up, I had to really work on the full setup on the thing, intonation, bridge adjustment, filing string slots on the six string neck's nut, the whole nine yards. But if you think I minded, refer back to the price I paid, and compare with the $3500 average street price for a bonafide EDS-1275. The twenty fret necks have turned out to be less of a handicap than I suspected, although its song by song really. Fortunately, there's quite a few out there written for this particular guitar(Hotel California, Love Song, a couple Cinderella tunes and of course, Stairway). The primary problem is that the lower cutaway interferes with proper hand position, so if you need to play scale patterns above the 14th fret, its way awkward. To reiterate, it ends up being song by song. I can fire off "always with me, always with you", but certain sections of "cliffs of dover" just don't happen, particularly in the intro and finale runs.

I treat this thing as a working instrument. It is my primary practice guitar, and the thing is solid. I would not hesitate to play it out live, as everything about it exudes solidness like a tank. Nothing fragile about this baby. The finish, as mentioned before, has survived some pretty hard whacks with barely a scratch. No chipping. I would play this without a backup, but then again, it has its own backup built in. Of note: this is the first electric I've owned than I've never snapped a string on(I broke a D octave while restringing once, but that doesn't really count). I usually snap the high E string while bending, but with all kinds of different brands and gauges, that's yet to happen. Tuning(due to the long headstocks) is a headache, as the D and G strings in particular are sticky. I've used graphite lubricants to some avail, but my current solution is to blast the nuts with finger ease before tuning. I will be replacing the nuts soon anyways.

I have been playing for ten years, most of which has been on acoustic and classical guitar. I have had a smattering of electrics, yet this one's the best so far. It is equal in playability to any Gibson I've owned or even played, and the sound is top notch. I love the thing to death(it stands 1 foot away from my bed), and gets far more attention than any of my other guitars. It is aesthetically superior to the Gibson EDS-1275(I've always dug the extended headstocks as well as the string stops being set far back) with its abalone headstock inlays and flame maple top(even if it is only a veneer). It wasn't set up very well, but for the money, I am very satisfied. In fact, I'd say the way to go for the ultimate would not be to buy a Gibson, but to get one of these and spend whatever it takes for a killer setup(fretjob, the works). You'll have a better looking instrument and one cannot forget the second pickup selector, very important. True, you could add one to the Gibson, but try and find someone who'll rout anything on a $3500 guitar. My rating here reflects my overall experience with the instrument(I've had in four months now), and there may be finer guitars out there, but I have to give it a ten, even notwithstanding price. If I had paid $2000, I would be torqued over the setup issue but I'd still be just as satisfied. The thing's a beauty, and I honestly couldn't be happier. In fact, the only other instrument I've ever had the same degree of satisfaction with is a Model L Steinway grand piano(and for $35,000 it damn well better have been sweet!)

The G-1275 I've owned for a few months is one of the recent versions, with the covered humbuckers on the 12-string neck and open ones on the 6-string neck. I adjusted the pickups a bit on the six-string neck, to get a bit hotter sound. I have the Alpine White model, and the only modification I made was to change the pots to black Strat-style, which I find easier to read. I am glad that this model has a pickup selector on each neck, unlike the Gibson's single master selector. One of the features I like most is the extra 3 inches of strings past the bridge, which is a groovy source for extra sounds. I think this axe's best feature is the ability to open both necks, so you can have drones and such - like having 2 1/2 guitars!
The only deceptive thing is that the Epiphone "set-up by..." sticker on the back of the 12-string headstock covered up a "made in Korea" sticker.

My style is primary "soundscape", so I do a lot of loops, ala Frippertronics. I can't think of a better guitar for that style, as it has so many possibities. Like I mentioned above, I like the extra string length past the bridge, which sound great with distortion when they resonate with the main strings. And the inter-neck resonation is the main reason I got this guitar. I do play traditional guitar as well, and it sound just great to me. I love the bright tone of the 12-string neck, especially with both pickups open. The 6-string is good for leads and the neck is pretty responsive

The finish is excellent. Of course, who knows what the wood is or what it looks like under those coats of white paint. But generally, I found everything set-up nicely except the 6-string pickup's were a bit low.I d

I've been playing guitar for 20 years and have always wanted a double-neck, and the price was right so I grabbed the Epiphone. If I lost it I would surely replace it, as I've become very fond of it. I do feel a bit odd about double-necks in general, since they have an aura of overkill and egomania, but those feelings have gone since I've had the G-1275. It's my only guitar, and I don't think i'll need another axe. I'd recommend it to anyone who's willing to have versitility and is willing to put up with the cumbersomeness of it!

I would just like to point out that it has not been mentioned that the Epiphone G-1275 is made out of an alder body with a flame-type maple veneer top as opposed to the pure mahogony body of the Gibson. This is why most Epiphone Doublenecks have a flamed top. Also, the neck on the Epiphone is made of mahogony as opposed to the Gibson neck which is made of maple suprisingly enough!

This is a newer Custom model with set necks, upgraded pickups and upgraded machine heads (tuners). It is Alpine white. 12 string on top 6 string below. It is SG styled and a copy of the original Gibson EDS 1275. It is a solid body with low frets. It has 2 volume controls and 2 tone controls. One set for each neck. Each neck has a 3 way pickup selector. There is another 3 way switch to select either or both necks. Each neck has 2 humbucking pickups. It has one mono output. Finish is high gloss and very high quailty. It came with a HSC ($100 extra) which is quite plush. Only accessories included are..an allan wrench for the truss rods.

This instrument should suit almost any musical style. I use it with a Marshall JCM 900 amp. It is very quiet at all volumes. The output is about double that of a Stratocaster. I compared the sound with a friends 70's Gibson Les Paul Custom with a Hot pickup in the bridge postion. We both agreed that the Doubleneck sounded better and had more punch and clarity on the clean channel. Hi gain only distorts when gain is up on the amp. I jammed with it the day I got it. It was a little awkward at first but I grew into it easly. It is top heavy so a little hard to hold while standing. I am planning on using a strap that connects to the headstock to equally distribute the weight. It weighs about the same as a Les Paul...give or take a little. By the end of the night my fingers were hamburger. I have been playing an older strat with very low action.

The quality is far better than I expected. It was set up at the USA Gibson factory to Gibson doubleneck specs. Intonation was perfect but I did not like the action or the pickup heights.
I spent several hours readjusting set-up. Only complaints are that the bridge pickup would not adjust down. After removing it I found that some glue was holding it back. After removing it it was ok. At the bridge on the 12 string side I got the action as low as my strat with no buzzing but the nut at the top of the neck is keeping it too high foe me so I will bring it to a professional to either have it cut or replaced. I can't see how a Gibson can be much better than this. Maybe time will tell. Most of the parts are US made Gibson.

The guitar is Rock solid and if cared for should last a lifetime or two. The finish is beautiful and seems to wear well but again time will tell. I replaced the strap buttons with straplocks. I don't want to drop this baby. I cannot see why it would not be dependable. I don't know yet if I will use it as my main guitar. It certainly is a conversation piece. Led Zep uses one.

I have been playing for over 30 years and have owned every guitar from the worst to the best. I now have a 1972 Strat, 1972 Jazz bass, 1966 Rickenbacker 370, 1965 Fender Malibu acoustic and the doubleneck. The quality of this Korean made guitar is equal to my American instruments. I was in the market for a 6 string guitar with humbuckings and an electric, solid body 12 string. Gibson and other major manufacturers were considerably over priced. A friend has an Epi Sheraton II which I found to be a nice guitar. A close equal to the Gibson with the exception of the pickups and thin gold plating. I felt that Epi's had the best quality of foreign made guitars. I did consider an Ibanez Artist doubleneck but I liked the SG style better. I once had a 1962 Gibson Les Paul Custon which I liked very much (SG style). I find this to be a close equal in quality. I may have to replace some parts eventually but for now everything seems very good and I did take this guitar completely apart with the exception of removing the set necks. IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED IN ANY INFO ABOUT THESE GUITARS. FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME.

- It is made in Korea - it has 20 frets (which was a bit of a dissappointment) - it is traditinoal cherry red, but this one had a flamed top - the tuners are those plastic LP jobs. Probably won't hold up for ever - it was $925(Cnd) without a case. The case is great. The guitar fits in there like a glove. I was impressed.
Sound
:

- the sound is great - the 6-string neck has great sustain, and the pickups are true to that Gibson sound - there is a (very tiny) bit of noise from the 6-string pickups, and absolutly none from the PAF's. - all in all, I was very impressed with the sound quality of this guitar. The great sound was one of the reasons I bought it.
Action, Fit, & Finish

- The guitar was set up pretty well from the factory. The action on both the 6-string and 12-string neck was very high when I got it, but since it has a tune-a-matic bridge, it was easy to fix. I assume that the height was just a standard thing. - The pickups were adjusted very well - The top was bookmatched, and it had a visible flame-top. I've never seen this before on a G-1275, and the originals aren't as far as I know. This one might have been a freak of nature. - No real flaws, but if I nit-pick it, there was a (tiny) bit of finish/glue/whatever that was painted over where the neck meets the body at the 17 fret. This was extremely minimal, but I wouldn't expect to see this on a Les Paul Standard...

- I would use this live and I plan to. Having a backup is unneccessagy, and out of the question as far as $$ is concerned. - The hardware and finish are done very well, in the tradition of Gibson/Epiphone. - Very confident in it's ability to withstand live performances.

- I'd buy this guitar again. - the sound quality is great - I only have two major complaints against it:
1) being a double-neck, the neck and is heavier than the other end, and thus when you strap it on, the necks point downwards. i.e. you pratically have to hold the necks up while playing, unlike a normal guitar which will balance in a position parallel to the ground
2) there are only 20 fret on either neck, and even though it is a double cut-away, it is pretty hard to have access to anything above the 16-17th fret.
