1987 Epiphone S-310

Red Strat style with maple neck and Jackson type (pointed tip), not the hockey stick type headstock I've seen so many pictures of. I still have all original Gibson paperwork from my 1/15/88 purchase.

Serial # 7071xxxx

Sound : 9
This was my first guitar and after a dozen or so higher quality guitars I consider the S-310 one of my favorites. It has it's own sound, plenty of tones, with a strat flavor.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
All guitars need setting up and this one was no different. I have never had a problem with set-up. The body is good, I hate to say it, but not solid wood - it's ply construction. the neck is great, hardwear ok - still original and it will stay that way.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I've never had a problem with this guitar. Of course I don't drop it, bang it around or set it on fire. It would not be #1 in my line up for a gig but it's always ready to play.

Customer Support : 9
No experience or need for Customer Support. I guess that's good so I'll rate them a 9.

Overall Rating : 9
These S-310 are going cheap these days and certainly worth the investment if you have the spare bucks or looking for a first guitar (as long as you find one well taken care of).

I bought this Epiphone s310-b in a pawn shop because it was made in Korea probably by Samick. 22 fat frets and 3 single coil pickups and a real nice neck. Looks almost new so I have no idea what year it was made. The construction of this guitar is very well done and if I want I could drop Fender pickups in it. Its black with a 2 piece maple neck and quite heavy like my strats. Probably some good wood.

Sound : 9
If you like a strat you probably will like this one. I cant say if its original cuz it has a ballsy sound for a cheap guitar so it may have some upgrades. I havent used it on a gig so I can only talk about what I hear in the house. I play mostly classic rock and country. So far I've run it through a Crate 50 watt tube amp and really sounds pretty damn good. Not quite like a Strat but as good in a little different way if you get my drift. It took my several days to set it up and also it needed some oil and WD-40 to get the electronics up to par. Right now its perfect. One thing I noticed it how well it set up...unbelievably perfect.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
It probably came from the factory unplayable for most folks but after some carefull adjusting its just fine. Everything about this guitar workes fine now. But it had a noisy select switch and a volume controll that cut out like crazey. I sprayed WD-40 into the selector and blew in canned air then worked the switch back and forth. It took some time but it eventualy worked. The volume controll is a different deal. I had to remove the plastic controll nob and run a drop of oil down the post and work it back and forth. This too took a while and several drops of oil. No more scratching and no more cutting out. No misaligned neck, everything was well put together.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I believe this guitar will hold up to any gig although I usually bring a couple of guitars. It stays in tune perfectly because I tightened the screws that hold the winders on. Thats what there for. Most people who wrote about the problems just dont know crap about setting up guitars

Customer Support : No Opinion
What warranty? I dont even know year it was made. If it breaks I'll fix it myself......

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing since 1957 and own so much stuff its unbelievable. I would buy it again cuz it is so well made. If your handy and like strats you will appreaciate the axe.

I think you know by now. Mine came in a nice, not too yellowed white with a maple neck and fretboard. Nice big frets, cheapish tuners, no string trees. The headstock color was black which didn't look so hot on a white guitar. They should have left it natural.

Sound : 8
I bought a prewired pickguard with Fender American standard SSS pickups. My Epi sounds like s Strat now. It was an expensive upgrade, about the same as a I paid for the guitar, but worth every penny.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Used when I bought it so I had some adjustments to make. The finish is holding up great for a 20 year old guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Very solid. If I was gigging I'd use my USA strat but this would be a great backup.

Overall Rating : 10
If you make some changes you'll have a really nice guitar, not just a good guitar. Here's what I did to mine:

*Upgraded to Fender pickups
*Painted the headstock white to match
*Added real Fender tuners
*Added string trees
*Sanded the back of the neck super smooth
*Added a graphite nut
*Blocked the trem

So yeah, I've spent some money on it but now I have a real strat killer! And the white/maple look is awesome.

It is a Strato-style korean (Samick plants) guitar with standard tremolo. Made in april, 1992, I've bought it one year later. It has SSS PUs, black body and rosewood fingerboard.

Sound : 8
I play my own music (fast indie-rock or something like that), using clean channel only, except some solos. My amp is a Seymour-Duncan 84-50 all tube combo. (I had Peavey Bandit and Roland Cube-60 before.) For some years I used humbucking PU (DiMArzio FT2) at the bridge position, but for my music the original one is better! The only change is a Fender Hot Alnico at neck. I like this sound. I never use tremolo, so I've stopped it with a piece of hardwood. (Earlier there was some noise from the bridge, but now it is silentm, and stays in tune.)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
It was in perfect condition when I bought. I only had to set octave for the new strings. Finish is still beautiful (black).

Reliability/Durability : 9
After 15 years I had to change pu-selector switch and potmeters, setting up frets and neck, but it is still good. Altough it is korean, not bad quality! Very reliable.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with Epiphone.

Overall Rating : 9
I play guitar since 1989. This is my 3rd instrument. If I buy a new one (I plan) it will be a premium quality guitar (American Series Strat). A mexican won't be better than this. Very good guitar for it's price.

Mine is a standard Strat style Epiphone made in Korea I think. I paid $75 for it a few years back at a pawn shop. Mine is an '86 model. To say it's been banged around would be an understatment. It has been used alot but shows very little wear. It's my Black Beauty guitar. I think that they must have cheapened the manufacturing over the years because mine is quite, the only problem is the five way selector switch, I need to replace it because it cuts in and out on me at times.

Sound : 9
This guitar fits my needs to a T. I play classic rock and roll at home, the only gig I have is playing at church. Over the years the sound has mellowed a bit and it is able to play anything I throw at it. I use a Korg AX1G effects pedal with it and find that it plays just about every style of music. I play it thru a Bass Amp, believe it or not, And that Mellows it out even more. Over all a very adequate playing guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
This thing had to have been set up by an expert, because I do not get any fret buzz that others talk about, and mine has a nice low action. As stated earlier the only real problem is the five way selector switch, and I'm sure that with a little tinkering I can fix that up just fine. The finish is still very good and theguitar is very presentable.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Although I have used this guitar without a backup, I think I would use a backup now, mainly because I'm more conservative than I once was. I feel like it is a very dependable guitar, and like I said I think it will last for many years to come.

Customer Support : No Opinion
The warrenty was long gone by the time I got it, so I can't say.

Overall Rating : 10
I play a number of insturments guitar not being my best, but I will say that if you need a good strat copy without spending alot of money you can't go wrong with this guitar. I bought it because it was an Epiphone, I keep it because of it's sound.

Made in Korea, i think a plywookd body, 3 epi coil pickups, poor tuners, poor pickup 5-way switch. standard strat copy

Sound : 5
i dont really have a specific style, ill play almost anything from metal to hardcore to punk to classic rock. it is very very noisey, the buzzing drives me insane sometimes. I use a crate 15w practice amp, and i dont like it. The distortion and clean settings are fair, not bad not great. The buzzing is definately annoying.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
good finish, pretty solid. Its been banged around enough and doesnt show too much wear. I sacrificed low action only to have fret buzzing. i think i might have to file some of the frets down. definately poor quality wood, i mean, its plywood. plastic nut doesnt exactly thrill me

Reliability/Durability : 7
again, good finish, get banged up a lot, but doesnt show the wear. The hardware.. well a few times times i was playing some palm muted chords and the sound cut out on me, that was wierd, i dont exactly know the problem

Customer Support : No Opinion
havent tried

theres some definate things wrong with the guitar, but its decent for a starter, probably better than a squire strat

Everyone is familiar with the typical Strat setup, and that's what this model delivers. I've been a Les Paul man from the start, and this was my first Strat-style. I just love the Explorer hockey stick head on this thing. This guitar was my first spring bridge. I had to put a couple extra spings in there to stabilize my tuning.

Sound : 6
Like I said above, I've been a Les Paul man. I had a hard time getting used to single coil pickups, but with a little tweaking I was able to find a useable sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
I picked this one up second hand from a guitar shop in Hawaii for $100. The previous owner (or the shop) had done an adequate set up and I haven't had to mess with that.

Reliability/Durability : 5
I haven't tried using this live, and I'm not sure if I ever will. I usually played this guitar unplugged while watching TV. As with all my guitars, I tossed the stock strap buttons and installed Dunlop strap locks. The bridge snapped about a year after I bought this. I don't know if it was the salt in the air in Hawaii or the fact that I used a total of four springs. I haven't found a drop-in replacement bridge yet.

Customer Support : No Opinion
The warranty was long gone by time I rescued this from the shop. I've tried to track down the year it was built, but I can't seem to find any serial numbers anywhere on this thing.

Overall Rating : 6
I've been playing 20+ years, all with humbuckers and tune-o-matic bridges. Once I got used to the tuning and sound issues of a Strat-style guitar I enjoyed playing this. I'm still not comfortable using it live, but I enjoy it for what it is. An inexpensive knock around Strat-style guitar.

Features : 8
My Epiphone is an s310.b. It was being promoted in a little shopin whittier The guitar was being promoted in advertisements at the time by John Hyatt. I was looking at Squires in the same price range and they were all junk. My s310 was made in Korea. There were a few differences compared with later models. my pickguaard was 2 ply, black with a white base. I think I paid 250 for the guitar and a 20watt crate amp. my guitar was black w/black pickguard and a Maple neck, and a floating tremelo.

Sound : 6
It was a little quietfor what I needed because the pickups were weak. No weaker than a crappy Squire though. The 5 way was real noisey and the pots were not sealed and were soon making a lot of noise. What did I expect for 150 bucks? After a year I decided to mod the guitar. I purchased 2 blue fender lace sensor pickup and a Seymore Duncan stacked humbucker(looks like a single coil) for 10 bucks a piece from a big music store in hollywood. All the major bands have them do setup for their instuments. The musicians have the techs rip out all the stock pickups and replace them with their preferences. The techs then throw all the parts into a Big box that I got to dig through. I also install a phase switch for the Seymour Duncan to get a hotter sound if needed. Much better!!I also replaced the saddles with guitar tech teflon bridge saddles..It took me years to solve the intonation problem after this mod!!! Over the years I have modded the crap out of it. My last bit of surgery was to replace my 5 way switch with a more modern piece. The original was NASTY. I also replaced all the pots and glued a sheet of aluminum foil to the entire back of the pickguard. My guitar is plugged in and sitting next to me..and its as quiet as a mouse..!!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The guitars action must have been set up by a cave man. It took me months to sort out all the issues. The most important thing I did was lower the bridge, add a spring to the tremelo and block it with a piece of hardwood. I never use the tremelo anyway. It never goes out of tune aand the sustain is fantastic for a bolt on neck. The guitar itself was flawless. The maple neck had a satin finish with a glossy fingerboard. the frets wre a little rough aroun the edges. But great for a cheepo..I think I have replaced over 80% of the hardware and I know have a nice guitar. If I had done the same thing to a squire I would have been left with a big expensive piece of crap.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Its been 8 years and it still looks great. I have never regretted purchasing thi guitar in all these years. nothing has ever failed on me the strap buttons are still tight. I lend it to a friend and he uses it regularly at live gigs.

Customer Support : 7
never called because nothing broke!!!

Overall Rating : 8
I have been playing on and off for 8 years. I would be miserable if it were stolen. It's irreplaceable beacause of all the work I put into it. I love the guitar's look, but I hate the funny looking 80's hairband headstock. It was the best deal at the time. I found out later on that my style was more suited for a setneck no tremelo instrument, but after all the work its just as good!!!

Mine is a 2001 (I think), black lefty version of the guitar. 22 fret bolt-on neck, hell knows what woods it's made out of! Tune-o-matic bridge, standard non-locking tuners. 2 Gibson style humbuckers, with a volume and tone knob for each.
Came with a couple of allan keys for action adjustment, nothing else.
Grover tuners would be nice but you're talking more money for those!

Sound : 9
I play classic rock and blues, with a bit of metal thrown in for good measure. I've been playing for about a year and a half now, starting out with a Jim Deacon strat style which I still use. The SG is, for starters, a 'very' sexy guitar.....there's something about black guitars......
The pickups are actually quite good. I've heard horror stories about Epiphone pickups, but I think they've improved them even within the past couple of years. I don't get any background buzzing on either of them. Sound wise the bridge pickup is nice for harsher sounding stuff (it can be coaxed into producing Metallica/GnR sounds). The neck pickup is a gorgeous creamy Gary Moore-esque sound, spot on for blues and classic rock (Led Zep, ACDC, yadda yadda). Using both pickups combined (the middle setting of the pickup selector) can produce quite a nice sound if you roll off the tone and turn the volume down to about 8 (yeap, I have been watching too many Clapton videos!)
Overall the sound's really good, although can ocassionally sound a bit washed out.....with the right amp and FX setup this can be overcome quite easily though.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action was great from the start.....I haven't measured it precisely, but it's nice and low which is what I like!
The pickups, neck, bridge....and so on....were fine.
I've scouted around the surface of the guitar and couldn't find any bumps or scratches on it!
Finish....ooo...what a finish. For a guitar in this price range the 310 is very, very sexy. As I said before....there's something about black guitars...or maybe it's just I like seeing my reflection while I'm playing....pompous git that I am ;)

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've only had her for a few weeks, but she's holding up just fine (I play about 5-6 hours practice per day usually, which opens them wide-open for wear and tear)
The volume and tone knobs are really good.....I expected cheap dodgy ones for the money, but Epiphone appear to have fitted proper Gibson knobs.....groovy.
The pickups and bridge seem pretty rugged, so I don't think they'll crap up on me for a while!
The body, being black, requires constant cleaning if you want it to remain as beautiful as it starts out.....but for something that looks like this, it's worth it!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had a prob yet.

Overall Rating : 10
Fantastic value for money......gorgeous guitar.....can produce great blues and rock tones......enough said!

i play rock and punk. its great! im using a kustom amp. i like it all. great sound. the clean sound is good and the distortion is good for me but not like a pro with mesa amps and stuff. i like it

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
it came set up fine. good action and everything. the pickups are just where i want them. the only flaw was on the pickguard and there was a shape cuz of the warrenty sticker. no problem and it saved me 50 bucks so no complaints here!

i think this guitar was made in korea. it has 22 frets and has all the same stuff as a strat.it has the 5 way switch,2 tone,1 volume. it has 3 single coil pick ups. it is the same body style as a strat and a string thru body bridge.it came with a few picks and a polishing cloth from the shop.

Sound : 10
i like to play metal and it is good for that.my amp is a kustom KGA10 and if you have the gain at 10 and have overdrive on, it can get really muddy but if you want you can get a really clean tone.it has a really rich tone.i really like the sound

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
it was set up pretty good when i got it.the pick ups were kinda wobbly but thats normal.when i got it the only flaw was on the pickguard there is a stupid shape because if the warrenty sticker.

this guitar is really strong and could take live playing. the hardware looks like it would last for a long time.the finish is way too strong. you could drop it off a 2 story house and it would be fine.the strat buttons are good but the strat comes off sometimes.it is very dependable and i would not have i back up.

It's a black SG copy guitar made in Korea. I bought it for 195$ and it was a newborn child back in 1997. 22 Frets are there with one of the pickups being somehow unfixed (I care not, though). Neck is sweet to handle, but looks cracky (!)from the close range (where were my eyes?). Anyway it doesn't affect playing. There were no accessories except a shitty cable (proved to be OK though), nothing like case or strap.

Sound : 10
I play sth undefinable (mixture of metal and grunge) and it fits me 100%, better than much more rated (and dear stuff I have tried out).
I use Hughes and Kettner Combo (80 W, or something?). The guitar has a whole bouquet of sounds ( basses are just amazing, but that's SG), it's bright enough to imitate Angus and I even get Gorham/Mooresque stuff from Black Rose. Sounds perfect, no complaints.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Fretwire... is really delicate, which on the one hand makes me get off, but on the other hand wears out far too soon. Nuts became rusty almost immediately. Selector and controls are solid (and good looking). Well it does need some extra work, but I don't mind since I paid what I paid.

Reliability/Durability : 5
The biggest trouble was unstable tuning. It pissed me off all through the rehersals and I was really anxious on stage. Then I gave it to a guitar wizard I came across, he hasn't told me yet what exactly he'd amended but now it's rather stable. Anyway I tend to use it for writing and recording only, since I can't still relax during the gig.
I wouldn't use it on a gig without a backup unless I was a punk (which I was at 17). I also call it a "string killer", guess why.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never bothered myself with that.

Overall Rating : 8
I have been playing for 10 years. But guitars they are live creatures and you can never judge them without playing, can you?
This one inspired me very much and that's what matters to me.
If it was stolen or lost I would be broken-hearted. It has its ups and downs, but when I compare it to other much highly rated and expensive guitars I played I have to say it is animated. If only it was really stable...

Decent alder plywood body (seafoam green), rock maple neck (mpl fretbrd, black plastic dot inlays), I DONT KNOW WHO THE IDIOT IS THAT CALLED THE HEADSTOCK A BATWING SHAPE it looks like an explorer shape to me!, dual fulcrum trem w die cast saddles (nottoobad), 3 s-coils, vol-tone-tone BASIC STRAT SETUP

Made in korea, probably by samick seeing as the neck plates the bridge and all the hardware are identical to the samick strat copy line, with the exception of the neckplate inscription.

i bought this from a bud for $90can, he paid $300can, when he got it it came with a strap and a hardshell case.

Sound : 8
good sound, i usually play a hamer flattop with a duncan dist. bridge p/u, this guitar is thick if you put the selector between bridge and mid and turn the mid tone all the way to the left. I have a Peavey badit112s and i had to turn the bass down and the treble up to stop my spkr from blowin from the bass.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 4
I set it up when i got it, its all good, other than a dirty blade selector switch, the electronics are good. the flaws in the design are enough as to shun it from the "strat copy" title. the neck p/u is too close to the mid, the pickguardis miles away from the edge of the body, the pickguard is also too wide in the neck pocket area.

but its cool looking when you plaster it w/stickers!

Reliability/Durability : 9
i bloked the trem and tightened the screws on the tuner buttons so it wont go out of tune. the neck pocket is super tight, so itll take a bashing in that dept.
i'd gig with it!

1997 with the bat wing headstock. 22 medium frets, 3 single coil pick-ups. Black body with ash-colored neck (not rosewood). I bought it without any accessories, etc. It has a five way switch that is now giving out. I have to jiggle it a little to get it to work sometimes when I switch to just the bridge, or any other setting other than the neck pickup. Overall the finish was excellent. Fit was fine, intonation ok.

Sound : 8
I play various stuff, a little crunch, a little twang. I run the guitar through a marshall practice amp and have it hooked to four pedals- crybaby wah, dano fabtone, dano chorus, dano phaser (one of the new small pedals which I will submit a review for. The sound is warm and very strat-like. I record my stuff on cakewalk and then burn it to cd and it sounds great without any post-production tricks. I like the guitar very much- just wish the switch wasn't a little tempermental

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Came justfine from the factory- I changed the heavy strings over to the brand I use (ernie ball, extra slinky) and it sounds great. After three years the frets are holding up well, finish is still perfect (accept for user inflicted errors. Fit was perfect, action very good for a beginner to intermediate. One small thing, the neck is becoming a little spongy- it flexes a little bit now- not bad for some effects, but not good all the time either.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Never had a big problem so far- just the switch (which is annoying, not detremental to playing) and the nech sponginess. Otherwise an excellent guitar

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them

Overall Rating : 8
A great beginner guitar- I love the sound and I love the way it looks.

22 fret strat copy, 3 single pickups with one tone and one volume knob. The main difference being the head, which I have not seen since. It resembled a door wedge in shape. I no longer have the guitar, but believe it was a 95. Tailpiece was also a whammy bar. Neck was surprisingly round for a strat type guitar, more like a gibson, but not quite. i gave it a good rating because of how it felt to play. Made in Korea as I remember.

Sound : 7
This was my first guitar, and so I didn't really have a particular musical style at the time that I owned it. For the price I paid, it sounded pretty good through my old crate practice amp. There was a bit of a hum at times, but this could be the amp. My only real complaint was the fact that the thing would not stay in tune for any length of time, this I blame on the tremolo system, which was well.... shoddy at best

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The guitar was not setup well when i got it, and it was a scratch and dent model. There was a slight dent on the back of the neck, oooh... I got more than I paid for.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I have to say it, this guitar can take a beating. I abused the heck out of the body due to mishandling, but it took it and looked the same the day I traded it in as it did when I got it, with one exception. One of the screws on the adjusting piece stripped out, and I had to go to the local guitar tech to get a replacement, which was not identical.

Customer Support : 3
I never dealt with the company direct, but I did take it back to the dealer when the one adjusting piece broke out of the clear blue. The dealer was less than helpful and informed me that the piece was not covered under warranty. I didn't care for that considering that I only had the guitar for a month or so when it broke, and I had never fooled with the piece in question. Grrr... But the y did offer to replace it, for a charge :( if they could get ahold of another piece (aargh...)

Overall Rating : 9
I have to say that it was an excellent starter guitar, and I won't regret owning it. But it's not the best I ever owned to be sure. I ended up trading it for a '48 Harmony slide guitar.

A pretty fair strat copy. It was my first guitar so I've become very attached to it. Has about 22 frets, two tone, one volume...same stuff as a strat. I've left it the same as when I bought it. It came with strap bag and an Epiphone Studio 10 amp. It's ok.

Sound : 10
Sounds pretty good! Not the best rythm guitar, but it has impressive sustain, cause of the angled headstock probably. The bridge pick up is great for playing some bluesy leads, and has a nice crunch to it. I've heard there are much better pickups out there than Epiphone's pickups, but I'm satisfied with this guitar for lead. Very high twangy tone too. It can get real muddy when you want it to though.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
the finish rox! I'll play for church and stuff, and people always notice it's seafoam green finish. The white pick guard matches the color perfect, I'd like to get a pearl pickguard put on it sometime though. The frets are real smooth, and vibrato on this guitar is so easy I over do it alot because I've started playing a Les Paul copy I got for christmas. The tuners in the past have slipped really bad, but for some reason they don't as much anymore.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I use this guitar alot for praise and worship...like I said before, it's just great for lead..I first learned the blues with it. Real solid construction and really thick finish on it. hasn't gotten a scatch yet (and that saying something! I'm hard on it!). Strap buttons are suprisingly solid...when I read the other reviews I was trying to figure out what the heck everyone was talking about with the strap buttons. I would always bring my LP copy along with me though. Crazy things happen. I always need backup.

I still have that little old studio 10...it's an ok little amp, but I need something bigger. I have a darn good LP copy. If you want the warm rich deep Les paul crunch, this isn't your guitar. If it were stolen, I wouldn't just go bananas, but I would be upset. I really like this little epi...I'll customize it when I can get ahold of some money...(i'm only 15). I don't think I'd find another S310 this good...I've heard some horror stories...with Epiphone, you just can't tell until you've played the guitar. but I'd give it a 9...it has some flaws, but most guitars do...you just have to fix them.
Feel free to email me! I'm real interested in guitars! haha

I feel kind of guilty because most guys got a regular S-310 and I got a Custom. It's just like a 310 but it has a bridge humbucker, and 2 single coil pickups. With that a tremolo, locking tuners,5-way switch and rosewood fretboard with these cool looking triangular shaped things for inlays. They aren't the trapazoids but something else.Lots of chrome knobs and a beautiful Candy Apple red finish. All of the electronics are the original as are all of the other hardware. I called Gibson on this thing and it was made in 1995 and that was the only year they were made.I figure it was probably made in Asia and my days are limited but for $200 I will not complain. And yes it is like a Strat copy but a copy of a Lonestar Strat. My buddy who has an older Strat ('78 or so) loves how it sounds like his.I bought it used and apparently the guy never played the thing because it was 4 years old and nothing was worn or looked to be.

Sound : 8
I played other guitars and this thing amazingly enough fit me very well.I can't beleive how this sounds.I see a cheap axe and buy it and hook it up and bang, can't put it down(thats the way it should be).I play a bluesy, rock with heavy distortion and when I go clean for the blues sound I got it.When I go dirty I can get it too.I use a Marshall VS100 combo and typical of Marshall I get alot of base and I had alot feedback but I adjusted the tone a little on the guitar and got rid of it.I recently bought a Digitech RP2000 and started to use it now and all is well.I used other boxes with it and noticed that for distortion I really had what I needed. The bad part about this axe is it very heavy and the idea of spending a couple of hours gigging is a labor.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Setup was not good on the intonation and I switched to heavy strings(GHS TNT with a set of 13's combined) and I was going nuts with adjusting the stupid thing because Epiphone in all their wisdom made the tension adjustement screw on the tremolo virtually impossible to get to.So now the action is about an inch high. But I did some tool fabricating in my garage and problem solved. The humbucker is a little loose and volume a little jumpy (rises dramatically) but everything else was really good.

Reliability/Durability : 10
The strap buttons fell off after a few days and Elmers wood glue did the trick.I have been beating this thing for 6 months now and stays in tune and keeps going.I am 40 yrs old and have screwed with a few guitars in my day and if I were to go live with this thing I would do so with no worries.I think my shoulder would fall off because this thing is a tank,or at least as heavy as one.Good finish and quality seems okay.

Customer Support : 6
Dealt with GMI once on this thing and was very prompt but not too informative. You got to twist their arms on info.Maybe they're imbarassed of these things.

Overall Rating : 10
Overall I would buy another because it was so dang cheap.Been playing since I was 10 and have seen a few and this one makes me wonder why I can't get another guitar this cheap .It is a good sounding axe and it makes me laugh because I'll spend 5 to 10 times the amount I spent on this guitar on another one and get the same sound. It kind of makes you wonder. If it was gone I would be heartbroken like my kid was gone because I'd never find another one like this one.

I have a 98 Korean made S-310. 22 frets, I'm not sure what kind of top. You know how a strat copy is-5-way switching, 1 vol 2 tone, S/S/S pickups, Epiphone stock. I'm not sure what it's made of, it's a pearl white flecked finish, and the head is painted the same. Like I said, it's a strat style body, not sure about the tuners, frets seem like about medium, got a gig bag, strap, picks, cable with it and only paid $150!

Sound : 10
I love the sound of a good strat, the warm but bright at the same time neck pickup, the quacky in-between settings, the light bite of the bridge pickup...you know. I compared it to a Fender and it sounded EXACTLY the same, played the same, and weighed less. I play it through a Peavey Bravo 112 amp and use a Zoom 1010 effects pedal sometimes. A very versatile guitar, the tone can get VERY deep without any mud. Perfect if you have a low budget.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The action on this guitar is very good, and plays very comfortably with light strings. The pickups wobble a little, but that's expected. There were 2 small nicks on the back when I bought it, but I don't know if at the factory or store or where. It is fair in tuning-but it slips easily if you play a heavy bending lead or use the whammy bar at all. The plug jack came loose, also, but is easily fixed. Otherwise, everything is very sound.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar takes a beating. I am pretty careless carrying guitars around. It's dropped, I've kicked it once or twice, I've carried it around school, it's fell over, but nothing occured from those beatings. The finish is actually pretty thin, but it seems pretty hard to damage. The strap buttons are very reliable. I would hate to go on stage with only one guitar, since there are so many different tones that I love, but it hasn't given me any trouble yet, so if I had to, I could definitely rely on this guitar on stage.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I actually bought this guitar on vacation while I was in Charleston, SC. That's about 3 hours from where I live, so I can't really say anything good or bad about that shop. I own another Epiphone, and am going to buy a third, so you can tell I think that Epiphone is great. Epiphone is always under a lifetime warranty, but I haven't needed to take it to a shop yet.

Overall Rating : 9
I have played for about 2 and a half years and rely solely on Gibson/Epiphone, Peavey, Fender, and Crate, though I will broaden my horizons when I have the money to do so. :) I have a Peavey 112 amp, a Peavey Mystic (I will add a review on that definitely), a Fender/Squier P-Bass, an Epiphone Excellente, a Crate KX-15, (okay so it's a keyboard amp but I use it for my bass) a little tweed Epiphone amp, and a Zoom 1010. If I lost this guitar, I would be very disappointed and would get another immediately, unless I had the money to buy a Fender, though I would consider this one anyway. I love everything about this guitar except that it slips out of tune when you bend the strings or use the whammy bar. My favorite thing is the strat sound. Like I said earlier, I compared this to a Fender Strat, and it sounded and played exactly the same, weighed less, and cost less. I have another friend that has one, it's his first guitar, he loves it, I love my S-310, and I encourage anyone just beginning to play or low on cash to consider this guitar!

Im pretty sure this thing was made in korea about 1995 (?) because its left handed it took ages for it to sell & ultimately found its way into my tender care. 22 frets of the large kind I think its made out of poplar or plywood or something - I cant ever get this sort of info out of anyone. Anyway! Take the strat control layout etc etc etc etc & thats what this came with 3X very weak single coil pickups that were highly appreciated (it was my first electric) but later subbed out for a Diamrzio airzone & and air norton (more on that later) Rather nice flamey sunburst finish though and of course, strat style body. Came with a good case at $ 80 NZ extra which I still use for my nu strat
Loads of features but not often up to specs

Sound : 7
This guitar (esp with the retro fitted pickups) could definately handle anything I needed it to do. Over the years Ive run it thru a peavey Rage 158 (the worlds practise amp), A marshall VS 100 combo, and a newly accquired roland DAC 15 solid state amp which I bought for 30 bucks and never fails to impress! Effects? OLD ibanez ochre coloured compressor, DOD g@un%e pedal, DOD buzz box (y'all lovin this one!), Boss ph2 phaser, Reissue fuzz face, DOD classic fuzz (highly overlooked) & an ibanez CS 5 chorus (beyond crappy)
well the original pickups were very flat with a real low output with (h0t) humbucker styles this guitar really screams and does the gibson neck pickup lead tone really well. Initially a very noisey guitar, broke down about 2 or 3 times until I had it worked over thoroughly but now this can do anything from chicken pickin to blues, to metal, retro fuzz tones etc etc etc etc
What I really like about this is that the volume pot is very smooth to turn and not at all stiff like many gibsons/fenders ive known
This axe with an airzone in the neck is the ultimate beast for doing volume swells!!!!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
The axe was so badly set up when I bought it I cant even describe its intonaing capacity!
the middle single coil was wobbly
the strings were old and crusty the interior routing is very rough and the components like the bridge and pickup poles were rusting about 3 months after i bought it One thing I will say in its defence though was that it does have a very snug neck joint. The finish is super thick & strong - i havent managed to damage it yet!

Reliability/Durability : 10
Ie gigged this guitar many many times and it never once failed me, I replaced this axe cause the frets wre beginning to burn out & the brigde bagan to get iffy. Excellent tuning stability though!!!!! I could do anything to that trem & it wouldnt detune (it wasnt very ruggedly made though)
It lost its strap buttons very soon so I bought some really tough grade fiberglass filler & they havent mved since - I cant even MAKE them move
I depended totally on this guitar for 4 years.

Overall Rating : 10
I chose this guitar because it was the only available left handed one in the city for less than a grand & i was very inexperienced. Yeah I got ripped off by the music store, and to be honest this guitar is shabbily made and not pretty from close up - but from a distance it looks stunning and the dimarzios made it sound really top level - just the right tonal balance between a hotted up strat and a les paul I really enjoyed this guitar and its (modded) tones - they were a unique combination of guitar/ pickup & i would definately recommend it to anyone seeking a dependable axe with not much money
It played really well with a more restraining feel than my new strat but a slicker feel. great for learning to vibrato because of the push back of the strings - again a balance between an SG and a strat (it also has a chunkier neck that many strats and a slight gloss finish.
I think the going price for these is normally about half what I payed, and with a few more dollars spent upgrading it you have a guitar that sonds AS good as any superstrat out there with a sound & feel all of its own

it's pretty funny! the first time i actually opend the guitar,I was frightened. it's very messy inside and fragile! but i trash it around and it's still good

Reliability/Durability : 7
i trash it and stuff!you know just hit the microfoon stands and leave the guitar on the floor, step on it,things like that it's still good, but the only thing that fucked up was the little switch to change the sound!you have to put it excactly on the right place or else it won't sound!

Epiphone S-310, made in 1987 or so. Consider this guitar a strat rip-off, it looks exactly like a black Squier Stratocaster. Tuners are "ok" but are erratic. Pickups are generic fender-style single-coils. Crappy practice amp was included (Peavy Audition 30).

Sound : 6
Plays an average to below average blues/rock tone, but don't expect to play much rhythm guitar. I haven't been able to get a good chord sound from it. Still, it's fairly good for leads.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
Action is medium-ok. One string is much easier to bend than the others, and there's buzz on the second string. Frets are a bit buzzy, but it's not bad. Electronics have static, and work erratically sometimes, but usually fairly well.

Reliability/Durability : 7
The finish is very solid, it won't come off, its been the same (with one polishing) as it was when I bought it about 10 years ago. The strap buttons are fair to poor, straps have fallen a few times. I've gigged with it once without a backup, but I wouldn't want to make a habit of it, just because it's not a very high-quality guitar.

Customer Support : 9
Gibson was very helpful in helping me identify the date of the guitar, and I always reached a live person. Never had any warranty situations though.

Overall Rating : 6
I've been playing seriously for about a year now, though i've been fooling around with guitars for years. If I lost this guitar, I would buy a real Strat or maybe a Les Paul.
