Features : No Opinion
2000 Nocaster New Old Stock from the glorious Fender Custom Shop situated in Corona California. Completly handmade Nocaster. New Old Stock means that the guitar is not a relic. it's mint as if you could buy it in the fifties and travel in time to our days taking the guitar with you. I don't think I have to explain how a Telecaster is made. Every guitar player in the world knows this timeless design masterpiece from that genius named Leo. In few words: Butterscotch colour, maple neck with the skunk stripe in the back of it, black pickguard, vintage style hardware and pick ups. The simplest guitar in the world. Can't express a rating. Number of features is not the reason for buying this guitar. Few features but incredibly functional and versatile. In the "less is more" world the Telecaster has no competitors.

Sound : 10
I play Jazz, bebop style. I play at a pro level. The musicians I love the most are Frank Rosolino, Victor Feldman, Hampton Hawes, Charlie Parker, Dizzie Gillespie, Lee Morgan, Oscar Peterson, Sonny Stitt. Can't name them all. I don't love guitar players too much exept obviously Wes Montgomery, Hank Garland, George Benson, Danny Gatton, Pat Martino, Eddie Bickert, Kevin Eubanks, and few others which I'm sorry I have not the time to mention. I love fast runs, bebop phrasing plectrum style. But I also play accompainment with my fingers, and solo pieces in the style of Joe Pass. First of all I have to say that this guitar is not a kid's toy. You have to be a real guitar player to fully appreciate the qualities of this instrument. Features are so few and so elementary that what this guitar really shows is only you, your true playing level. This instrument is not easy. The sound is so perfect and true that it will reveal with great fidelity every mistake you will make, every imperfection in your phrasing. But it will also make you sing like an angel if you play it properly. It could be a very helpful tool in the process of becoming a better player. But it could also discourage you. Beacause you can also sound very bad with this guitar if you can't play. The reason is that you can't fool this guitar, you can't make tricks to play better. You have to be a player. But if you are one, and you play jazz, well this guitar can't make you forget your L5. The clean sound of the neck pick up alone is simply perfect. I can't be critical here because I love this sound. An electric solid body guitar can't sound better than this one in a Jazz setting. I play this guitar through a Fender Concert 60 watt amp and through a Twin '65 Reissue. You will never need nothing else because the sounds you can obtain with this kind of combination are really all the clean sounds you could ever imagine to need. The guitar sound as the best archtop in the world, as a laminated top jazz box, as a blues crying thing, as a great Martin drednough, as a sweet and crisp country western swing machine and as a hot rodded rockabilly stray cat! I really mean what I'm saying. I really mean it. Simply using the two knobs (the tone knob alone is a marvel) and the selector you can go through all these sounds. Try to close the door of your playing room and ask your friends in the other room what kind of guitar you are playing blowing your best country, jazz, Beck's, blues or rockabilly licks!! You will fool them. There is not a wrong sound in this guitar neither one you will not use and they are all perfect.
I don't use distorted sound anymore but I know what a distorted sound should be like. In the past I was a fusion instrumental rock enthusiast, I own Mesa Boogies, Rectifiers, Dual calibers , Fenders, VHTs, Ampegs, Marshalls. This guitar screams. I try this guitar distorted through a fender Hot Rod De Ville and I found myself asking, "why the hell did I sell this amp?". The fact is that the woods in this guitar have so much depth, so much brilliance, so much punch that you can play every style you may want. But I repeat, you have to seriously know how to play them. This guitar is a true gem only for connossoirs. Infact you see a lot of these guitars on E Bay. A lot of guys buy this guitar because they think it's cool, but soon they discover it's too hard to play and it's a severe guitar. So they sell it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar is the best tele you may want to buy. The finish is a sweet yellow seethrough butterscotch. You can still see the great woods they used. The neck is figured nicely. The hardware are perfect. The guitar is been in the shop since 2000, now is 2003. The shop set the guitar for me perfectly. It neede nothing more than an adjustment of the neck due to the fact that I love 010 strings. Nothing to add. It's a custom shop guitar. Highest level.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar will last forever. It's simple and hard as a tank. Original Fender Nocaster from '51 are still around working better each day that pass. Hope to keep this guitar forever.
This guitar will never let you down. It's so simple you can take care yourself of it on the bandstand too. No frills.

Never needed it. I think I will never do.

Overall Rating : 10
It costs a lot. And this is not a great thing, but the best always cost a lot. I will search for another one perfect as this one to buy if it were stolen. Can't compare this guitar to any other. This one is THE THING. The only complaint I have to express here is about the goodies this guitar come with. They are not that much honestly. The Thermometer case is only a nice gift but it is pratically unuseful and there's nothing more from the custom shop as gifts. The guitar is poorly packaged in my opinion for what it is. Yes sure "less is more" but not in this case! As a customer I wish to be cared more when I buy a custom shop instrument. Anyway it's the substance that counts. This is surely what they think at the shop in Corona.
