My guitar is a 1982 or 1983 model according to Dan Altillo at Top Gear in La Mesa, Ca. I bought this from a pawnshop a few days ago for about $137.00!!! wow. It is black with white pickguard. 3 selector switch with a slab neck and a chewed up trem bar slot.

Sound : 9
I am primarily a classic/blues/metal player. When I tested this guitar, the jack shorted and the pickups whistled in a microphonic fashion, however I was more than able to get the tones I needed. I am more than happy with the performance nontheless and I am looking forward to getting it set up in good shape.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
This guitar looks like a real vintage piece from the 50`s, especially the worn paintjob, this is what attracted me to buy this. The bridge was set up straight across which is not an accurate way to acheive intonation but the guitar sounds real good unplugged. The pickups have problems with feedback when I push up the volume however I can get good sound at loud clean volumes. The tremolo bridge has been mashed pretty good as there is part of the bar still lodged in the screw cavity.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This needs rewiring or better pickups and a new bridge. After this I think it will stand up to any abuse I can muster.

Haven`t contacted Fender yet, all products I own by them(tele, jap Squier Strat, Floyd Rose Strat, Squier stagemaster)are all built well and I can do necessary mods myself.

Overall Rating : 10
This is a major steal!!. I probably will not find another deal like this. I wish the hardware was in better shape though but I will upgrade it accordingly for sure. Excellent value!!.

This is made in 1992/93 - A '57 Reissue with a DiMarzio humbucker in the bridge position, and the vintage staggered magnet single coils in the neck & mid spots. Also has the Floyd Rose locking tremolo system. It also has a push/pull tone knob to split the humbucker into a single-coil. I got this one with the '57 two-color sunburst finish - very nice!! It's got the 22-fret maple neck, classic "Kluson-style" tuners, and original "spaghetti" logo on the headstock. My only complaint is that it didn't come with a case.

Sound : 10
This is the most versatile guitar that I know of - can play rock, blues, metal - whatever you want. The DiMarzio humbucker allows you to have a warmer, fuller sound - or you can split it to a single coil for that classic strat sound. I currently play through a Marshall Valvestate, but am looking to go to a Fender tube amp for better clean tones. I play mostly classic rock (Beatles & Clapton). This guitar is well suited for whatever your heart desires - it hasn't let me down yet!

Actually the factory setup is perfect! Not too high, not too low.. Everything seems to be set up just right - Fender got it right on this one!! Haven't adjusted a thing since I got it!

Reliability/Durability : 9
Very solid guitar, although my only beef is that the maple fingerboard is showing some signs of wear. Otherwise, it still looks beautiful after 6 years!! And I'd never need a backup with this guitar either.. I only gave it a 9 due to the fingerboard - otherwise a solid 10!

Never needed it yet..

Overall Rating : 10
The best guitar for the money! Since I don't use the tremolo at all, I'm finding that the Floyd Rose is becoming a huge pain in the ass when I tune it or change the strings. But I got it because it holds the stings in tune exceptionally well. I LOVE the classic '57 looks! I've had this guitar 6 years, and I don't think I'll get rid of it. If it was stolen, I'm not too sure if I'd buy it again because the features are too "busy" for my needs - maybe I'd get an American Standard Strat or a Les Paul. It's a shame that Fender has discontinued this specific model, although there are other similar models now.
