Features : 10
The guitar was built in 2007. All the appointments are vintage styled, 21 frets, 3-way pickup selector switch, 7.25" radius, etc. Basic features of a classic strat, that's what I was looking for and that's what I got.

Sound : 10
I play rock and roll. I had been through a few amps and tons of pedals while owning this guitar but now I'm down to using an Axe FX for all my sounds, and a Z Vex Lofi Loop Junky as my only pedal.

The middle pickup is not reverse wound, so you get the 60 cycle hum in all positions, even if you choose to install the 5-way switch (which comes with the case candy). I ended up installing the 5-way because I needed those sounds.

I gotta say that the pickups in this guitar are the best Strat pickups I've ever used. There's no volume drop of any kind when switching back and forth, and the bride p/u is not ice-picky at all, like all the other strats I've owned. Fat and useable sounds all around!

It's a strat... it's one of the most versatile guitars out there. This one does it all very well.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Perfect set-up from the factory. The action was low but not buzzing anywhere, and I asked for a setup with 10's but they were a little big for me because I was trying to get used to the smaller radius. I've had 9's on it ever since but I think I'm gonna go heavier next string change because they're starting to feel loose.

I love the finish on these, and I know it will naturally "relic" in a beautiful way. It's "aged" but not reliced, there are a few tiny flaws in the finish that were *meant* to be there. The whole concept of the closet classic is that it's as if someone took it out of the case and played it a few times, then put it back in the case and someone found it in the attic (or, um, closet) 40 years later.

It's truly a beautiful looking instrument, and people have asked me if it's a vintage guitar just based on its looks.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Everything is solid as a rock, but the trem arm is a bit hard to screw in. It's too tight or something. Not a big issue for me, as I rarely use it on strats.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing for about 12 or 13 years. This is my 4th strat, the best one by miles. Anything from Fender Custom Shop is going to deliver, I had a CS telecaster and it was just as solid as this. If I could do it over again, I'd keep my eye out for a used one, just because the price is a bit on the steep side. Still worth it in my opinion. This is the next best thing to owning the real deal from the 60's.

US MADE 1960 CLOSET CLASSIC.
SOLID GUITAR TWO PIECES OF WOOD BOUND RIGHT UP THE MIDDLE. HOLD YOURS IN THE LIGHT AND YOU CAN SEE THE SPLIT UP THE MIDDLE ON THE BACK WHERE THEY JOINED THE TWO PIECES. COULD THEY HAVE USED ONE PIECE OF WOOD? YES. IF WE CAN REBUILD IRAQ THEY CAN MAKE A GUITAR BODY OUT OF ONE PIECE OF WOOD. THREE WAY SWITCH WITH THE OPTIONAL 5 WAY. NOW THE DAM THING REQUIRES REWIRING. 1960 SPEC PICKUPS. ALDER BODY. LACQUER FINISH. DAM GOOD BRIDGE ON THIS THING. MINE STAYS IN TUNE. GREAT TUNERS. NECKS FINE ON THIS ONE CHECK THE DAM THING OUT BEFORE YOU SPEND 2 GRAND. QUICK NECK. THIN FRETS BUT I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS HERE. THEY WORK FINE. I LOWERED THE ACTION AND RESET THE SADDLES THIS THING IS FAST WITH NO RATTLES.

Sound : 10
SOUNDS SMOOTH NO SHARP EDGE. FULL SOUND, GREAT HARMONICS, A TRULY MUSICAL SOUNDING GUITAR NOT LIKE THE AMERICAN STANDARD I'VE GOT. OPEN IT UP ALL THE WAY AND LET IT RIP. CAN'T DO THAT WITH THE A.S. THERES TOO MUCH HARSH TREBLE THERE EVEN IF YOU CUT IT BACK YOU CANT GET THE FULLNESS THAT THE 60 HAS. THIS GUITAR SOUNDS REALLY GOOD THE CUSTOM SHOP DID A GREAT JOB ON THE PICKUPS HERE. I'VE PLAYED SEVERAL REAL VINTAGE STRATS MY NEIGHBOR HAS TWO A 58 AND A 63 AND YES THEY ARE THE SHIT! MINE FAIRS VERY WELL AGAINST THESE TWO IT GINUINELY SOUNDS CLOSE TO HIS 63 DIFFERENT BUT THE SAME. HE LIKES THE 60 I HAVE A LOT AND BOY IS HE A DICK WHEN IT COMES TO TONE. BUT HE HAS EVERY RIGHT TO BE THAT WAY. 26 GRAND IN TWO GUITARS? THIS IS HIS AND MY ANALYSIS ON THE TONE. THE 60 SOUNDS DAM GOOD AS IT IS THREE WAY SWITCH AND ALL. THE RELIC IS TOO WORN DOWN. YOU HAVE THEN ENTERED EXTREME POSEUR ZONE. DORK! THE 60 SOUNDS GOOD BECAUSE IT HAS SLIGHTLY DEGRADED PICKUPS THE MAGNETS ARE SLIGHTLY DEMAGNETIZED LIKE THE RELIC. THE N.O.S. DOES NOT HAVE THIS FEATURE. SOUNDS TOO BRITTLE "AIN'T WORTH A SHIT". IF YOU MUST HAVE A REAL VINTAGE STRAT WATCH YOUR ASS YOU COULD GET A REWIND JOB THIS IS WHEN THE PICKUP WIRE BREAKS INTERNALLY AND THE PICKUP IS UNWOUND MICROSCOPICALLY RESOLDERED AND COATED AND REWOUND. THATS BAD ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE SHELLING OUT 12 GRAND OR SO. ALSO NOT ALL OF THE OLDER STRATS ARE "HOT". CHECK THIS OUT1954 to 1967 Fender Stratocaster Pickup Specs

THE NECK MAY HAVE BEEN ADJUSTED FOR THE LAST TIME. THE 60 HAS A NEW NECK WITH WARRANTY. YOU COULD GET A REWIND JOB. "12,000.00" . THE 60 IS ABOUT 2,000.00 HANDS DOWN THE CUSTOM SHOP CAME OUT AND KICKED ASS. I'LL TELL YOU SOMETHING ELSE ALSO THE CUSTOM SHOP ALSO PUT OUT THE ABBY MASTERWOUND PICKUPS SHE IS THE ONE WHO HAS WOUND FENDER PICKUPS SINCE LIKE 54 OR SOME SHIT AND YES INDEED I HAVE A SET. THEY BLOW AWAY ANYTHING I OR MY NEIGHBOR HAS EVER HEARD C.D.'S AND ALL THEY SIT IN AN AMERICAN DELUXE RIGHT NOW. HAS ANYONE DONE ANY RECORDINGS WITH THESE PICKUPS? I'VE YET TO HEAR THEM ON A RECORDING. JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE A VINTAGE STRAT DOES'NT MEAN YOU CAN'T GET THAT ASS WAXED!!!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
THE ACTION WAS HIGH. I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING THROUGH, HENCE THE 2 GRAND GUITAR. THE PICKUPS WERE SET RIGHT ON TIME ON THE ONE I HAVE. THEY ALSO ARE ADJUSTABLE. GREAT FINISH FOR NOW. WE WILL SEE HOW IT DOES WITH TIME. I DOUBT FENDER MADE ONE 20 YEARS AGO AND JUST NOW GAVE THE O.K. ON PRODUCTION. YES THE LACQUER FINISHES HOLD UP ON OLDER GUITARS BUT THIS ONES ARTIFICIALLY "CHECKED". I'M IN THE MIDDLE ON THIS ONE UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Reliability/Durability : 10
THIS THINGS BULLET PROOF, AND WARRANTED.

Customer Support : 10
JUST BOUGHT IT DON'T KNOW. I DO KNOW THAT SOME OF THE GUITAR CENTERS WILL SELL THEM WITHOUT CASES. THEY SAY THIS LOWERS THE PRICE. THE GUITAR CENTER IS FLEXIBLE. NEVER PAY FULL PRICE THERE. I HAVE'NT. WHEN ASK FOR THE PRICE "LETS SEE WHAT YOU CAN DO ON THIS ONE" GO WITH THE DICK TO THE COMPUTER AND PEEP AROUND THE CORNER THE STORE COST IS ON THE TOP LEFT HAND CORNER. I GOT MINE FOR 1,900.00 OUT THE DOOR. LIST WAS 2,264.00. I ALSO GOT A A.S. STRAT FOR 586.00 AFTER TAX. THE STICKER WAS 862.00. AGAIN WATCH YOUR ASS OUT HERE KID. YOU DON'T GET A WARRANTY FROM EBAY AND BY THE TIME YOU SEND IT BACK AND ALL THAT OTHER SHIT IT AIN'T WORTH IT. BUY NEW.

Its a strat. You know the features when you buy and I'm happy. Loaded with a 3-way but had a 5-way and springs along with it.

Sound : 10
Beautiful vintage tone. I originally would have rated it a 7 or 8 but it just keeps growing on me. All the strat tones are there. Thinking about replacing the pickups but the custom shop pickups are sounding better and better. Sweet sounding guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 1
Guitar was purchased sight unseen. Upon receipt, it fretted out at the 7th fret due to a large rise in the rosewood where it was not leveled/planed properly. While I was the second owner, it still had the plastic covering on the pickguard and was CLEARLY in brand new condition with certificate and everything. I was exceptionally unhappy that Fender would not support the product. I eventually (a month later) had it re-fretted and levelled. Its a thing of beauty now, med=jumbo vs. vintage fret wire.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Its a strat...second most indestructible axe next to a tele.

Customer Support : 1
This was very clearly a quality escape from the custom shop and they would not stand behind it claiming I was not the original owner. OK, fair enough but they could have worked with me a little. I wasn't looking for a free replacement neck.

Overall Rating : 9
Second CS strat I've owned. I replaced a PRS with this guitar...there's nothing on the planet like a good strat and after the re=fret, this one is perfect. Tempted to drag the rating down due to their crappy support and attitude but the guitar is just too sweet.

The Custom Shop. Fender's flagship factory in Corona California. Supposed reissue of a '60 Fender Stratocaster. Rosewood fingerboard. Did not buy the guitar for features, bought it for the tone. I must add that I knew that Strats in the '60's never had this much quilting and bird's eye maple. I bought this guitar at Eddies Guitars in Maplewood (St. Louis), MO. DO NOT BUY A GUITAR THERE!!!!

Sound : 10
I play blues have a Victoria Bandmaster...would never buy a Fender amp unless used. When I bought the guitar it sounded great, notes flying off the fingerboard. I thought the neck was a little concave. Tried to adjust, would not. The sound when bought.,.great.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 1
If the way I bought it was the way it was set up, then this "Custom shop thing is a joke". The neck had a back bow, which I stupidly thought could be adjusted. The neck could not be adjusted and also found a crack in the rosewood. I bought the guitar because it was the first Strat I had played in a long time that sounded good and had a ring to it. I did not see the crack in the rosewood until later.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Have not had it long, It is a Strat.

The absolute worst nightmare I can imagine. Just got off the phone with the guy from the Custom shop. He was full of crap. Obviously, the guitar had to have a new neck...EDDIES GUITAR'S MAPLEWOOD MO. WOULD NOT HELP AT ALL!! I had to take the guitar myself down to an "authorized Fender dealer myself" and pay for shipping it to Fender. The guitar was sold to me with a beautiful bird's eye, quarter sawn, maple neck. It came back from the Custom Shop, with a completely plain neck,....was told, "that is the best we can do". Then when pressed, said that is what the dealer told me to put on it. He lied. The representative for the flagship part of the biggest guitar manufacture in the world....lied to me. Unbelievable.

Overall Rating : 1
The worst nightmare I have ever experienced buying a new guitar.
