2003 Japanese Reissue "Q" Series. i guess its like a new Lake Placid Blue. really pretty color in its own way. Its not like a vintage looking LPB and its not nitro but i like it. I threw in 2 Seymour Duncan Vintage for Jazzmaster pups. You know the rest. Change the stock pickups TODAY. The stock pickups are ****.

Sound : 10
I really don't like stating a style of music that i play. I don't wanna say indie rock'n'roll cause i hate the killers. I don't wanna say Rock'n'roll cause i hate KISS. Maybe i'll just say what i do like. Bands like Built To Spill, Modest Mouse, Pixies, and i like the strokes alot but i dont play music like that. You know, Tom Waits, Cass Mccombs. Stuff thats does something to you long term. Not just regular *** music. Anyway, THE GUITAR sounds magnificent with the changed pickups. I use a Fender Hot Rod with a TU-2, Jekyll and Hyde for dirty rhythm, TS-9 for creamy solo boost, and a big green Line 6 delay modeler for the stoner sounds. REALLY REALLY good sound. It just nails everything i do. if you wanna hear what i do go listen to myspace.com/bluesruby. But hey, if youre a serious jazzmaster player you know about the bridge problem. Get a mustang bridge, get it set up nicely, put a piece of thin card paper under the E saddles and just suck it up. Its gonna sound funny acoustically and the E strings may still pop out of the saddles when you bend hard(you could file the saddles also but thats sketchy sometimes) but thats the minimal sacrifice of having the gorgeous tone of the Jazzmaster. I'd use a buzzstop but i like making noise behind the bridge. If you don't mind not having the chimey noise behind the bridge to play with just put on a buzzstop. The rhythm circuit up top doesnt do much for me. I mean it sounds good with the new pups but so does the normal rhythm pickup setting. I use the rhythm circuit as a cut off switch. Roll off all the volume up top and that way when you engage the rhythm circuit the guitar will just go silent you know? Its kind of fun for feedback stuff. Anyway, the raw sound of the guitar itself with the duncans is just spectacular. Its sounds really good. I'm not an amateur. I gig i record, I'm active and im in love with this guitar. I have an American Stratocaster that i refinished myself with some Nitrocellulose Sonic Blue. That guitar sounds wonderful but not quite as nice as the jazzmaster(in my opinion). I have a casino and an SG but im not gonna try and compare them to the jazzmaster. Theyre very different instruments. But anyway, i love this guitar.

I didnt but it brand new. But its perfect right now. Don't expect the factory to have the guitar completely set up perfect unless its being built specifically for you.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Ive gigged with it and it hasn't let me down. Everything is solid

Never dealt with Fender. I know they tried to ******** me though by telling me that the American Vintage jazzmaster pickups are vintage correct. Thats a lie.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
Playing is what i do. I got this jazzmaster, an American strat, an epi casino, an sg with Lindy Fralin p-90s and a Fender Hot Rod. I wont ever let it get stolen. That wouldn't be a good thing at all. its my favorite instrument.

i bought my jazzmaster in '03, it was built in japan and it has many great features, including my favourite the floating tremelo. however, the bridge is a horrible design and my strings pop off of it if i play too hard (which isn't that hard at all). the neck is fairly round and because i have smaller hands it took some getting used to but i'm fine with that now.

i'm giving it a 7 because of the horrible bridge.

Sound : 9
for my music style it fits in fairly well, although i only seem to use the neck pickup because the bridge pickup i find is too thin. i play through a cheap fender princeton 65 and a few stompboxes. i find the guitar is best suited for rhythm styles. as the name implies it's great for jazz because of the smooth tone, but also well suited for surf, new wave, postpunk, even grunge. the guitar is extremely versitile.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
at first i had a few problems with it, the pickups would click in and out but because of customer support that was quickly addressed. i own a blue one, it has a slight metallic flakes and it's truly gorgeous. my only complaint about the set up is the bridge, however that's in the design not just this particular model.

Reliability/Durability : 5
this is another problem i've found. my jazzmaster is relatively fragile and tempermental. the first gig i took it to, one of the screws fell out of the bridge and the second gig (after fixing the screw) it suddenly just cut out in mid performance. i love the sound, but it's a fairly unreliable live, in that it can take hard playing. i can't gig my jazzmaster without a back up, the problem is that i dont really have enough to afford a second one.

Customer Support : 10
i've dealt with fender before and because they're such a large company it's very easy for them to fix any problems.

Overall Rating : 7
i've been playing guitar for in excess of six years. i also own a fender telecaster, a no-name brown electric and a danelectro 12 string, all through a fender princeton 65. i wish i had paid less money for this guitar, as i love the sound and the vibe, however it is unreliable in a live situation rendering it somewhat redundant for me. if it were stolen or lost, i think i would save for one of the original models and not the reissue. the jazzmaster is spectacular for my style of music being 90's brit pop, which is somewhat strange considering no one really played them in that genre. anyway, i suggest if you buy one of these change the bridge to a les paul style one and play it with care.

This review is of the Japanese 62 Reissue Jazzmaster. The electronics are quite simple, there are two sets of tone and volume and a three way selecter switch. There is also a two way selecter switch that changes the circit from the Lead to the Rhythem and vise versa.

The pickups are the Jazzmaster Single coils, which sound quite unique and are the size of humbuckers. I guess that there made by Fender as there unique to this model of guitar.

The neck is a fat D shape and is very well finished including the fret work. I belive that the neck is maple with a rosewood finder board while the body is ash. Mine is in Sea Foam Green, but they come in a blue and a red too. The body is an off centre design, and is slighly larger than a strat.

The Bridge is a floating trem with a locking buttion. With the button in it is a fair bridge, however the saddel design is very poor. Each saddel is held in position by a pair of screws which all seem too loose or to tight and often go out of place. I have heard that replaceing them with the Mustang bridge can resolve this, however i have no personal experiance with this.

The tuners are high quality fender tuners exactly the same as on a usa strat.

This is quite a unique sounding guitar. I love it for playing indie rock and other more "Jangely" rhythem parts. It's also great for things like Incubus and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers more mellow tracks.

Suprisingly it also dose a nice distortion for punk ( I play things like The Distillers and Bad Religion on it) but the dodgy bridge sadels can caue problems if your chugging too hard. I don't really think that this dose a very good Metal sound as the pickups are a bit to mellow for my tastes in this catagory.

I use it with a Boss ME50 and find it to sound nice with many of the modulation effects, giving a very clean and crisp sound.

The Lead circit is quite bright, and can be a little harsh on the bridge pickup without the tone rolled off a little. The Rhythem circit is much mellower and is very nice for chord work and laid back lead playing.

The only bad point again comes back to the bride saddels that can make a really nasty buzz if there too loose.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
In the area the Jazzmaster really is good. Aside from the aformentioned Bridge design flaw the whole guitar is buit to a really great standard of quality. I really would say that its 100% up there with my USA strat.

Sadly that bridge is a real bugbear and really dose need replacing before the guitar is any real use, but if your prepaired to do that (I plan to as soon as i can afford it) then the rest of it is really top quality.

Reliability/Durability : 5
Again, aside from the bridge this guitar is really solid. Without changing the saddels i would never gig with it as the change of strings slipping is so high, but if that could be sorted then i'd reckon that its about as reliable as they get.

The finish is great and well applied just as you would expect.

I've never needed to deal with Fender

I haved been playing for about 6 years and have owned several guitars. A Platinum Mocking Bird, A very custom Ibanez, an Eppiphone Les Paul with EMG's, An NJ Thruneck Warlock, a Maverik SF1 SAS custom and a Fender USA Fat Strat. I have a THD Univalve and a Boss ME50 in my currant setup.

If this were stolen i would hunt high and low for a replacement as dispite its bridge i really love the feel and sound of this guitar

If the bridge was sorted the this would get 10/10 for what it dose, but without that change its a beautiful, if somewhat flawed guitar.

Two pickups, jazzmaster tremolo and rhythm circuit. Quite a long scale to hwat I am accustomed, 22 fret.....metallic blue....japanese reissue.

Sound : 8
This guitar still retains the fender sound despite being both a japanese reissue and having those p-90 like pickups. The dual pickup combination is hum-cancelling and very acoustic sounding. The bridge is nice and bright without being harsh. The neck pickup is lovely and warm without being bassy or muddy. Overall, a great sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Let's face it, the jazzmaster bridhe sucks dog's balls. It rattles, the harmonics are shit and the screws are either too loose or too tight. Solution? Put in a mustang bridge asap. This is not an uncommon solution and has been reported be many a jazzmaster player. Believe me, the quality of the bridge makes or breaks this guitar. Once the new bridge is in you have a very playable and practical instrument. Bridge is lovely and has that surg sound that the jm's are famous for. Whilst is suffers the dame problems as any non-locking trem guitar, it is still brilliant. My only criticism is the the tremolo arm is non-locking.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Quite a solid guitar as are all fenders. No complaints

A great guitar and undoubtably the coolest one ever made.

Two soapbar-like single coil pickups, rhythm circuit. Made in Japan in 2003, metallic blue....you knw the rest

Sound : 9
I quite like the sound of this guitar. The mij pickups are definately a keeper and they can deliver a nice fender punch. The bridge pickup is even and responsive and doesn't seem brittle or too harsh. The neck pickup is lovely and warm.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Jazzmasters need to be setup perfectly if you want to appreciate them. The bridge adjustment is quite unique with both individual bridge and saddle height. I was warned that the strings frequently slip from their saddles but I have never had his problem even though I do like to bashed out some chords. The trem too, is very good. Like any non-locking trem, it still affects your tuning with constant and harsh use, but it really is lovely to use.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Very heavy and feels quite tough. I would gig with it any day.

I have always wanted a Jazzmaster ever since I heard the sound of the Ventures. The Jazzmaster came into popularity again due to Cobain using one. However, whilst he did indeed use a jazzmaster, he hb installed and removed the lovely single coils. Therefore, I think that this guitars has been misrepresented in this day and age. I would buy it again.
