1989 Made in Japan left handed 1967 Reissue Fender Stratocaster. Gloss sunburst finish on solid double cut-away basswood body. Standard S/S/S pickup configuration with 5 way selector. Flat polepieces on all pickups. 1 volume and 2 tone controls. Gloss Maple neck with maple fretboard and standard frets. Large headstock with only the transition "Fender" logo (MIJ lefty Fender Strats don't have the normal "Stratocaster" logo name on the headstock). Standard stratocaster chrome tremolo with Fender stamped adjustable bridge. Vintage style non-locking Kluson tuners.

Sound : 9
Very good vintage Strat sound with stock pickups. Pretty quiet on all settings. Bright, glassy tones on the neck pickup, good Strat bite from the bridge pickup. I like blues and basic rock n' roll so this guitar suits those styles fine. I play this through an Orange Crush 30R or Fender Frontman Reverb and really like the neck pickup for clean, warm tones. Pickups build quality are not up to par with the American pups, but are very serviceable.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Great fit and finish. The maple neck and fretboard are the highlight of this guitar. Frets dressed perfectly. Great low action all along the fretboard after professional set up from my local shop. All components and electronics continue to work with no problems.
Basswood body is considered a "soft" hardwood so the body can chip if not careful. Basswood itself is not a particularly figured wood, so the woodgrain beneath the sunburst is pretty plain compared to some higher figured ash on American strats.

Reliability/Durability : 8
No problem to gig live with this guitar, solid components, including strap buttons. Dependable axe, although an upgrade to the pups and electronics is not without merit.

Customer Support : 8
Fender is a large guitar manufacturer. I bought this used, but replacement parts and support are easily accessible.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing on and off since the 80's. Still learning, with the internet opening up music in a big way. I have a few other lefty guitars including a '69 Fender Tele partscaster, 1990 Ibanez RG550L and 1998 Danalectro '56 Reissue U2. If lost or stolen, I would keep my eyes open for another lefty MIJ Stat, no question.
I love the classic Strat body contours, the great neck and decent sound this guitar produces. I wouldn't mind the body wood being a little more interesting to look at, but it's still a great Strat reissue.

Had mine a couple of weeks. It's MIJ 67 reissue(sold officially as a 68 reissue supposedly, but it says 67 under the neck and on the body) made in 1988. Mine's the sunburst issue with flame maple neck. has some playing wear on the neck which gives it some character and an oldish look. Love the large headstock. I can't get enough of the MIJ reissues. I've got a 54 strat and now this 67 strat. All I need now is another tele, although my MIM standard does a great job. These japanese fenders really have amazing necks. very smooth and very comfortable

Sound : 8
The sound is great. right now I'm using it through an Orange Tiny Terror and an Orange 2X12 cabinet. It has a nice sound for sure, but to get the real strat sound you need a fender amp or a marshall. Orange amps have a distinctive sound, but i find it's hard to get that stratocaster tone the way I want it. I'm thinking of getting a hot rod deville and seeing how that goes.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I bought mine from the original owner from a local online classified ad. It's got some dings but it's an old guitar. the set-up was fine. the original owner had it set up nicely briefly before I had purchased the strat.

Reliability/Durability : 9
pretty reliable guitar. Havn't had any problems yet. everything seems pretty solid.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never had to deal with fender ever.

I've been playing for over 10 years. I'm now 19 years old and I'm gear mad. I'm a total fender person, although I like some gibsons, but usually they don't catch my eye nearly as much as the fender reissue guitars. The only thing I wish that came with this guitar is a hardshell case. the price was good without the case so I wasn't totally worried. I traded a Marshall MG412 and $225canadian for the stratocaster. His asking price was 500 canadian and he was open to trades. I think I will probably get a proper fender vintage reissue case for this guitar If I find one on ebay. 179 USD from musiciansfriend is a bit too much.

I believe this is a japanese Fender from around 97-8. Lovely maple neck with a maple fretboard....very classy! Black dot markers, transition 'Fender' logo...in '68 they brought in the ugly block-lettering on the name 'Stratocaster' that lasted thru the 70's. This is essential a very accurate reproduction of the guitars Hedrix would've played...<he didn't play older guitars - he prefered 'new' models. Staggered pole pickups <highly accurate>. Not too sure about the four bolt neckplate? Is that accurate for '67? Dunno. Two string trees. Natural finish ash body <I'm pretty certain it's ash...> very light. Centre pickup not working <got this beauty on Ebay>, soon to be fixed. Very rare model...I just sawe the neck of one of these go for $500.00 US on Ebay the day I bought it! Just goes to show you how highly regarded these babies are.

Sound : 9
I play blues, rock, and original material. This guitar is very competent at most of these styles. I'm running it thru a Mes Boogie Tremoverb 2x12 tube amp <nice amp> with a digital delay, reverb, booster, wah wah, and a chorus going thru the effects loop. Sounds awesome. All the classic Strat sounds are there in abundance. I need to get this axe into my luthiers for a truss set-up, and to re-solder the middle pickup switch - and away I go! Sound is, unlike a lot of Strats I've heard, NOT overy bright or brittle - more 'warm & 'spanky' - like a good Strat should sound. This is a classic example of why Fender Japan is so highly regarded by pros world-wide.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I got this baby used <see above>, so I can't say how it was set-up from the factory. The guy I bought it from set the truss rod himself - but it's not really set to my style of playing <bit too high & chokes a bit beyod the 15th fret> but I know that can be fixed easily by my luthier. The stock pickups sound great! Very authentic. Not too sure whats in there - but they sound good. Everything else is pretty well flawless - as usual with Japanese Fenders.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I have yet to gig the guitar - but the previous owner tells me it was a well gigged Strat. So I'm assuming it should be no prob. Took the whammy bar off, as, authentically so, use of it can send the guitar woefully out of tune. Everybody I've heard about who owns these <original or reissue> reccomends removing the whammy arm and putting a block behind the floating bridge to get rock-solid tuning stability - which is what I'm gonna do with this.Finish is a lovely golden natural finish with wood grain showing thru - thick, hardwearing finish that has taken some abuse over the years, but only has a few dings as a result...so it looks very tough.
It looks very dependable and I would not worry about gigging it once I get the stuff outlined above done to it. I never play without a backup. Period.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No idea.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing 30 years - many of them in a professional capacity.
Asked? - yeah, where can I get another! heheh.
Lost? - I'd get another - IF I could find one <highly unlikely tho' - they seem as rare as hens' teeth. It seems very few were made - and most of 'em stayed in Japan>.
Compare? - Well, it's a Strat...doesn't sound like my Tele or my Les Paul! Sounds much nicer than many Strats I have heard...lotsa tone, no nasty Strat 'harshness' here...nope siree.
Wish it had? - not really.
Nope.

f-serialnumber means app. 1986
Vintage white (prob.) alder body (light!)
4-bolt maple neck w/ maple cap fretboard; big headstock w/ "transition" logo

So, a very accurate reissue. If it had nitro lacquer finish and staggered polepieces I would give it a 10 ;-)

Sound : 9
One word: great! I spent a lot of time experimenting with the pick-up height (stock pups) and they are now set very low: sounds like a rock strat should sound to me! Warm and yet bright, but not brittle, not fat , but a little mid-scooped: really perfect to me! Use it with a (low/medium gain) all valve amp that you can open up to work hard.
I used to play through a Vox Valvetone, then a DOD 250 preamp/overdrive in a Marshall 50W plexi reissue (jumpered channels). With the neck of neck/middle pu it definately has the Henrix / SRV vibe.
Bridge sounds great for britpop/punk riffs / open chords.
I'm now experimenting with the strat straight in my new custom build 2x10 Valvetech combo; sounds very promising!
No need to change the stock pups for something fancy; it's near perfect as it is!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I originally bought a '96 natural ash '67 reissue (new, 1200 guilders) which I traded with a friend who had bought this white '86 for 600 guilders (app.300 US$) used. So I don't know how this one was set up from the factory, but my ash one played a bit "stiff '' at first. Anyway I run a guitarservice-business so I give all my guitars a full setup. It now plays super!
Finish and fit is regular japanese stuff: meaning it's very good! Just replaced the 5-way switch with a US-made one. Gonna rewire soon with better quality wire.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It's a well made strat...........need to say more?

I wish more things in life would be as reliable like this.....

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
I love this guitar first of all because of it's tone! Vintage hard/blues/rock! And I like the thin profile of the neck. Nice weight too!
I also own a MIJ '72 reissue strat (with Limited Edition CS '69 pups) and that's another great axe! I really think these japanese "collectable" series strats from the 80-ies are real gems; especially for the money!

If you want good quality CBS-early years-vintage but don't want too pay ridiculous prices for "real ones" or Custom Shop: you can't go wrong with these!
But to get your hands on a '67 would be difficult since they're very rare! (which is another thing I like, hahahaha)

1987 Left-Handed Fender Stratocaster '67 Reissue, made in Japan (MIJ). 3-tone sunburst, beautifully aged maple neck with 21 frets. The neck has a 7/14/87 pencil marking at the end and a STB-67LEX stamp. I believe this model is very RARE! The body is probably basswood because it's very light. 5-way selector, one volume pot and two tone pots. The middle pickup was little broken so I changed all the pickups. Now it has Lindy Fralin Woodstock '69 pickups and it was a perfect match. This guitar suites perfecly for my tastes. I re-strunged it for a right-handed player, like me. This is my tribute to Jimi Hendrix (now called Ankar) ...

Sound : 10
It's all BLUES to me.. I have an '71 PTP Marshall Super Bass 100w amp and an '69 Marshall Basketweave 4*12 cab with four Thames Ditton Celestion G12M 25w speakers. I have couple of fuzz boxes and a vintage Italian Vox Wah. The sound is just awesome. When the guitar is upsidedown it truly creates a great sound. I'm not trying to copy Jimi or anything but this guitar just feels right. It has this nice balance to it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
This is a really well made guitar. The neck is super tight and the finish is beautiful. There's some scratches on the body and the neck has a little wear. Looks a little bit like those Custom Shop Relics.

Reliability/Durability : 9
It is from '87 so it's a bit vintage, but it plays great and seems like a really reliable guitar. It's ment for live gigs.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't dealt with them and I dont intend to. The warranty is long gone..

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for nearly 12 years. This is now my number one guitar. I'd be really sorry if it would be stolen or lost.

Lefty 1994 Japanese made Strat. 21 frets. Volume, 2 tone, 5 way selector. Vintage trem. Original pickups replaced with Seymour Duncan stacked pole pickups.

Neck and fretboard maple, sunburst alder or ash body. Kluson tuners.

Sound : 10
Brilliant strat sound coming from the SD pups, absolutely love it! Playing through Mesa heartbreaker combo with Dunlop wah.

Quite noisy, but single coil strat - what do you expect!

Huge variety in sound, with new pickups got a lot better output more umph!

Suits me down to the ground, love it!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Bought second hand so a few dings here and there, a few scratches. Neck plays great though, doesnt really matter how it looks, hey? A little bit of rust here and there on some of the screws but they have since been replaced.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Tuners are excellent, stay in tune even with much abuse!

Finish is great despite the scratches - 3 tone sunburst with tortoise pickguard.

I use strap locks always, but buttons seem good.

Always gigging with it, not without a backup, but then I always have a backup - Epiphone Casino and Patrick Eggle Berlin Legend (MAIN GUITAR ALONG WITH THE STRAT!!! - BEAUTIFUL!!!)

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them, hopefully never will.

Overall Rating : 10
Playing 6 years, own Epi Casino and Patrick Eggle + MusicMAN OLP Copy Bass (MM2) - Mesa Heartbreaker combo, various effects etc.

If it were lost I don't think I would be able to find one exactly like this again, the only place I could even find anything out about a '67 Re-issue was the FENDER forums, and even there there was not a lot of info, but i assure you this is a '67 not a '68 reissue, there are some subtle differences in the neck and such.

I love this guitar just as much as my Patrick Eggle just in different ways for different reasons, gives tones the Eggle can't and vice versa...
