'09 American Deluxe Stratocaster - alder body, rosewood fingerboard. Tremolo. Three SCN singles. Your typical Am Dlx Strat. Bone stock. Got it off eBay, and the guitar arrived set up well. The only modification I did was to swap the cheap ceramic cap in the S-1 switching system ("z" family capacitors are rated at a pathetic 85% tolerance sweep - not cool) for a good film cap of the same value.

I wouldn't bother to review this guitar at all, because it's all been said, except for the fact that the Bill Lawrence Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups confused me at first. The tone was okay, but it didn't have any of the typical Strat shimmer in the upper mids. Lower midrange frequencies were obnoxiously dominant. There was just a hint of the hollow "throaty" timbre and high-end sparkle we have come to expect from a good Stratocaster pickup, but not nearly enough of it to suit me. It wasn't until I moved the pickups much farther away from the strings that the tone really came alive.

I've used Bill Lawrence "AirGap" Noiseless single-coil pickups for years. They're great. I have them in several "Partsocasters" that I play regularly, and they work for me.

Yet the SCN is very different from Bill's previous units. Higher output signal, even though the SCNs still don't have any of the typical "mag-drag" of generic single-coil pickups. That's what threw me. Set up in a way that works well for the Bill Lawrence L-200 and L-280, with the six poles cuddled up against the strings, the SCNs get a signal that overloads them. There's no telltale warble or blurring of the notes, and none of that annoying mutation of the harmonics against the fretted notes that forces a player to get his generic single-coils away from the strings. That proximity-factor is only apparent in the way the sound flattens out. It was a disappointment to me -- until I backed the pickups down (to over an eighth of an inch from the strings at the E poles) and then they sounded great...as good as any noiseless single-coils out there.

I would give the pickups a 7 in this category, except for the fact that I found a way to get the most out of them (more on that below). So they're a part of this 9 rating. They deserve it. I'm very happy with 'em now.

The guitar sounds great. Does everything I want it to do. The S-1 is pure genius. The added five tones are very useful to me. The pickups in parallel are a real kick -- the volume boost is like hitting a 2nd channel in the amp. Lots of fun there.

Well...okay...I'll confess to another mod. I don't necessarily recommend it, but I've been doing this with Bill's pickups for years. It always struck me as odd that a designer who went to such an effort to calibrate the width of the poles for the three respective positions would completely ignore staggering the height of the polepieces. The pickups work fine with the poles flat, of course. But if you look underneath a L-200 or a SCN, which are built very much the same, the polepieces stick out of the bottom plate about three/sixteenths of an inch.

I was experimenting with one of the L-200s one day (trying to track down a grounding issue) and decided to get those poles off that brass ground plate, so I simply tapped them up from the bottom to create a radius that matched the neck. It solved the grounding problem, AND the difference sounded great to me. Since then, I've done that to all my Lawrence NF singles.

And, of course, I did the same thing to the SCNs, which I believe helped to punch up the response of the pickup even more.

I left the two E poles alone, and I used a plastic screwdriver t-handle to tap the inside pairs of the poles into a 9 1/2" stagger. I wouldn't hit them with anything metal. I'm not sure whether or not the magnets would react to that in a way I wouldn't like.

The only reason I bring it up is because so many players of this model guitar complain about the pickups. And, yeah, I can understand why. But with the pickups backed away from the strings -- something that a lot of players might not do since it's not necessary to do so to cure a typical case of "Stratitis" that comes from putting those generic single-coil AlNiCo magnets too close to the strings -- the tone changed drastically -- for the BETTER.

Add to that the effect of putting a radius on the polepieces, and those SCNs are sweet and articulate. Very responsive. They have that sparkly upper-midrange magic that we all hope for in a good Strat pickup. The sound of the pick scraping the string-windings is just right. Notes combine in just the right way. The bass and lower mids don't suffer at all. The SCNs just sound better that way.

The magnets in those SCNs are amazingly effective, even though they don't pull the harmonics of the strings off target at all. And therein lies the main mystery of the Samarium Cobalt design. Bill is simply a whole step ahead of the pack there (again). I was lucky to stumble on a solution I liked.

I went so far as to put the L-200/L-280/L-298 set from one of my other Strats into this Am Dlx, just to A/B the tones, and the SCNs whipped their butts. It's almost scary that Bill threw us all such a curve with these things. They simply outperform everything else, in a way that often hides their true beauty from a lot of players.

Upon hearing the difference after curing the "proximity factor," it took me a while to believe it. I'd play, put it down, play again later, put it down. There's always the suspicion that I'm just hearing what I want to hear. You know how that goes. But, yeah, they're a whole different beast when they're pulled away from the strings. Kinda like having that glad-to-see-ya Pit Bull on a leash out back, instead of right in your face. Much easier to control.

Oh, yeah...I use a single-channel hand-wired EL-84 head that a friend of mine built, through a ratty old Marshall 4x12 straight-front cab with greenbacks in it. All I want from an amp is total honesty. Whatever textural mojo I might need comes from a bunch of Mike Fuller stuff. I stick with Fulltone just to avoid the "option anxiety" that can set in. I never use time-based effects. Not even reverb. (It's a blues thang. Ha ha ha.)

I give it a 9 cuz there ain't no 10s...

It's a finely built Stratocaster, with the added features of staying in tune, no annoying 60-cycle hum, and a bridge that won't hurt my right hand when I get going good. The missing corner of the neck-mount is not really noticeable, until I realize that it's not there. The neck is dead straight -- lowering the action doesn't reveal any high frets; once the strings get too low, every single fret starts buzzing at the same time. I leave the action up high, but brought it down to test the neck. I love the neck a lot. Very comfy. It's one of those ergonomic totalities that works its magic without the player even thinking about it. It's just so easy to get around on it. Very cool.

I prefer this model to any of the oldies or the "Custom Shop" babies. Just because of the technical advances. It works better for me. 'Nuff said.

Quality parts all around. I'm sure this thing will hang for the long haul.

I always bring several guitars when I play out. It relaxes me to have them nearby. Besides, whatever might go wrong will go wrong: pop a string, blow a tube, or step on a cord and rip the connector loose. We gotta be ready for any of that stuff.

I've never called Fender for anything. Not sure how that might work out. I would probably go through a local dealer to get to the Fender rep who stops by now and then. That's the way to get something resolved. As far as that goes, the reps always do what they gotta do. So I'll rate them on that.

I started to play before the Beatles showed up. We had the Ventures. We had the Kingsmen. And we had Paul Butterfield. So I started out playing blues. I lived and died for Mike Bloomfield. He was the KING back then.

Since then, it's been a long rocky road, but I always came back to the blues. And now that's where I live full-time.

I got two Peavey U.S. Predator AXs, two Peavey Wolfgangs (just to be that way), two homemade parts Strats and one homemade Tele, all with Warmoth wood, good hardware, and Bill & Becky electronics. And a bunch of weird guitars that I don't play much.

This American Deluxe Strat is everything I hoped it would be. Great sustain. Can feel the notes in the neck and body. Amazing tone, thanks to my old pal, Bill Lawrence. My mongrel Strats don't like that this purebred "Best in Show" is here now, but that's just too bad. I couldn't build this guitar if I had all the time and money in the world. When I saw all the wiring inside this thing, I choked on my tongue. GAAH! Forget it. This thing is way past me.

I told a friend that this guitar is too good for me -- said I was going to donate it to charity. And then I laughed at the look on her face. You would have laughed too. It was hilarious.

Anyway -- before you swap out those wacky SCNs, go ahead and sacrifice some signal strength for the extra tone. Get in there and bang out a polepiece radius, of you feel up to it. A local shop repairman will probably think you're crazy or stupid or both if you ask for it. But it worked for me.

Again: there ain't no 10s in this world...so I give this baby a 9.

This is a guitar that can essentially cover all styles. It is designed in a way that you need not worry about your amp settings, because there is a wide range of tones accessible with just the pickup switch. Yes, the pickups are absolutely noiseless and can have no personality, if you have no personality of a guitar player. But, when you play this guitar, your pickups won't determine your sound as much as you as the player and that is amazing. The Amer. Deluxe I have is the works. HSS, S-1 switching, LSR Roller Nut, Locking Tuners, etc. In addition to the usual 5 way switching, with the S-1 you have four more tonal options. That's 9 different tones by the flick of a switch or push of a button. Name any guitar that has more. With the switch down and on the middle pickup, congratulations you are running your guitar on all three pickups, and no hum. Amazing!

I wish the humbucker bridge would be a bit brighter. It breaks up very easily, which is good for most uses, but sometimes you want a clean twang. Other than that, this guitar "sounds" amazing. I use quotes because this is a players instrument. If you suck, you won't sound good on this guitar. THe pickups don't do work for you, they just enable you to find your sound.

My favorite thing about this guitar .... I've played many strats, LPs, teles. I love all of them soundwise, but no guitar feels like this one does in my hands. It's a light guitar, but when you hold the neck it just feels so secure. It's hard to explain, and while MIM strats may be a good value, I've noticed that the MIA necks and fit just feel "right". Changing action is a breeze. UNlike Les Pauls where you might need a wrench, if you have the right set of tools you can change the action and intonation to your liking on the fly. And yes, this guitar never goes out of tune.

THe input (or output) jack has come loose a number of times. This is not good.

Needed to adjust truss rod right out of box
Fret ends still stick out when the humidity goes down in winter.Fender has to address this as this is a big turn off for me.
Also the abalone dots should have replaced the black dots on the top side of the neck as there are totypes of dots and for a marquee guitar this is a bit scabby.
The locking tuners are average.
The fretwire on the neck is very exciting and playable ,a nickel/steel combination.
The maple neck is awesome ,fast/solid/artistic looking and nice touch with the spaghetti fender logo.
Body wood is flawless and excellent finish.

Schaller strap locks are the way to go.
Nice poly finish /fast neck/plays very well.
Unless you do the old Who thing you don't need a backup.

Have an American strat but the samarium pickups blow it away .
The SCN switching system is awesome for variety and flexibility of sound.
Why pay more for a Japanese Ibanez /Gretsch/Dean/EPS/ or Gibson Les Paul with thicker uncomfortably necks and dark sounding pickups.
Wish it had abalone dots on the side of neck .
Wish the had some caps or binding over fret ends.
Wish it came with the Clapton TBX system.

This is a 2006 American Deluxe Strat in two-tone sunburst, maple fretboard, SCN pickups and the S-1 switching system. The guitar plays like a dream. The fretwork is awesome, it stays in tune and intonates very well. As far as features, I have to give an 8 for the quality of the work. It loses 2 points for the pickups.

When I pick up a Strat, I want to hear SRV or Hendrix. This is where this guitar falls short. The SCN pickups sound fender-ish. The way that they achieve noiseless operation does something to the magnetic field of the pickup that just kills their tone. While they are dead quiet and sound something like a Strat of yesteryear (which is a feat, I'll admit), they have little vintage quality to them and next to no chime. The neck pickup is muddy and the bridge is too bright. Too much treble and not enough clarity to the bass. I have tried height adjustments and different strings, but cannot find a pleasant spot. This is all with the clean channel on an EL-34 Shiva into an Avatar 2x12 loaded once with a V30 and G12H30 and now with two WGS Veteran 30s. I have also used on a Fender Blues DeVille 4x10. Still no luck.

Not absolutely perfect, but very nice for the price. That is why I bought it. The guitar plays flawlessly and the fretwork is very nice. I love to play this guitar save for the tone.

I've never had a problem with this guitar. Stays in tune, easy to play, no electronics failures. Can't really ask for more from a reliability standpoint.

To sum up. Love playing it, not satisfied with the tone.

2007 Strat Deluxe (US made), 22 Frets, very playable all maple C neck with well rounded frets, stunning cherry sunburst finish. The locking tuners are the best and means i hardly ever have to tune. The Noiseless pickups are great for practicing in front of pc screen without buzz. S1 gives a lot of tonal options which is like having 2 guitars.Having the straplocks already fitted was great as this investment needs protecting.

This is my Blues guitar but i bring this out for a number of Classic Rock songs. The sound always cuts through. Ive played it through a Selmer Zodiac 50, a Messa Boogie Triple Rec, a Holden 50 a couple of JCM's and it really brings to life my modded Peavey VK100 and Marshall 1960a cab. The neck pickup is very Vaughn with warm lows and the bridge has tons of bite. Middle pickup is not really my thing but still sound great.

I didn't get a chance to play it out of the factory as it had been set up by a legendary guitar tech before I touched it. This baby plays like a dream and I havn't played anthing better.

This guitar is pretty heavy but it gives it a very nice tone. Ive had a few run in with bits of wall, sharp objects ect and there is only a single scuff on the very top which is remarkable. The finish looks so light but its quite strong. I never go to a gig without this thing and I know it wont let me down.

If this guitar was stolen I would buy one again without a second thought. The only thing ive played that has come close was a custom made Weta Telecaster (which are excellent).

Details listed elsewhere, but the key features are the sommarium cobalt noiseless pick-ups, the extra five positions with the S-1 button in the volume switch, and the superb whammy bar. Mine is in a deep candy apple red with a maple neck. looks great.
it has classic strat sounds plus five extra, making it a truly versatile guitar.

The pick-ups sound great. This tone issue is always very subjective, and there is no small amount of snobbery, but the reality is that noisy single coils are a pain, and result of 1950's technology. Plug this Strat into a decent valve amp and you have a superb Fender sound without the hum. End of story. With S-1 engaged you get various fuller sounds, all of which are very usable.

Bought mine second hand, so don't know if it was the original factory set-up. Mine plays great. Lovely neck and very nicely finished frets. These USA made strats really are very high quality nowadays, I find.

its a strat, it will last forever, and get better.

I have a lot of guitars, including some vintage and boutique gear. i play this strat the most of all, which says it all really. I bought mine second hand from a guitar store, and without any haggling got it for 750 bucks. That is a stone cold bargain. It is one guitar that you can wear all night and cover any style of music. I recommend without hesitation. Look at the other reviews. Even with the tedious people who insist on spoiling the site with spiteful and silly 1 point scores this is still amongst the highest rated mainstream guitars on the market.

I purchased an 2008 American Deluxe Strat a few months ago. It has 22 medium jumbo frets on a C shaped mapel neck with a rosewood fretboard. It is a sunburst finish and has three Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups with the S1 switching system which gives you a lot of versatility. It comes with a real smooth two point tremlo with locking tuners.

I love the blues and also play rock and clasic rock. I play it mostly through my fender Blues Jr. with a tube screemer -808. The noisless pickups live up to their name and are really quiet. I play it mostly without the S1 system enabled but you can press it and add a little heat to what you are playing. Usually a strat has 5 pickup selections but with the S1 you have an additional 5 giving you a total of 10 choices. A very usable addition.

The action was pretty good out of the factory but I did do a set up on it myself and change the string gauge to get to to exactly what I wanted. You also have to set the bridge to what you want. The only problem I have is that the volume knob sticks a bit and doesn't roll smooth. It is a simple fix.

I have played with this guitar fo some gigs and it has help up well. i have gigged with it alone but I usually do try to bring one back up guitar with me just in case. It is a very dependable guitar with a strong finish.

i have been playing guitar for over 10 years now and also Own a Hagstrom Super Swede, as well as an Epiphone 335. My Fender is my number one guitar now and i use it more than the rest. My favorite features are the tremlo with the pop in arm and the locking tuning machines. Its playability and sound are great. It is my favorite guitar purchase.

Mine is from 2005, bought new at a Fender distributor. It could be the ash version due to the color options only available to that strat, but this could be an exception. It is Aged Cherry Burst with a maple finished neck. Very nice pickups. The SCN really add a nice tone to it, giving this guitar some real character. When the s-1 switch is pushed the real tonal possibilities from this guitar become apparent. You can really dial in any tone you want with this guitar. It is so versatile. The tremolo bar on this start is not like the other ones, it seems to be a different model as it is push in instead of screw in, but it works beautifully and this guitar rarely goes out of tune because of its use. The finish is amazing, and the tuner locks add an extra nice feature. Every aspect of this guitar seems to have been thought out by Fender to really make it a deluxe stratocaster.

I play classic and progressive rock, stretching out to jazz or Zappa jams. This guitar can reach any sound you want it to. There is no noise from these pickups (SCN). I play through an early 90s Fender Super 210, and it sounds wonderful. With the pickups used without the S-1, there i a bright classic single coil tone. With the switch down everything generally becomes more full and bassy. The variety is incredible. If you are looking for a strat that can do it all, this is for you.

This is the only drawback. Fender does not want you to play this out of the box apparently. When I got the guitar it was in dire need of neck adjustment and the frets were dressed to increase playability. I also adjusted the action to make it perfect. By tweaking the neck a little bit this guitar plays absolutely perfectly, and a friend of mine who used to work in a Fender shop told me this is one of the nicest playing strats around. Do yourself a favor and DRESS THE FRETS when you get this. You may not think it needs it, but let me tell you it makes a world of difference. You will notice it in the long run. Trust me...

This guitar can handle extreme changes in climate. I am a college student and I am constantly leaving my hot humid dorm to the cold dry northeast air with this guitar in my hands. The tuning locks prevent any drastic change in tuning. This guitar is very dependable.

Have not had to deal with them yet... but I can't imagine Fender being an evil corporation.

I have played many custom guitars over the years and I must say that if you are looking for a classic strat that does everything a strat should do, and more, this is for you. THE PERFECT STRATOCASTER

Bought this guitar from Ralph and Sandy??s custom guitar shop in Florida. Nice looking guitar, came with modified pick ups, (check their website for details), locking machine heads, Jumbo frets, ash body, etc..not ad at all. Came with custom case, standard cheap strap and some picks and polish rag. But really, not alot to mention there. For what I paid, not worth it, I bought it over the internet, the guitar can be found easiloy enough on ebay, if you dare.

The sound is ok in some pot positions, but the wiring is buggered and they wont reply to my mails. One of the pots does absolutely nothing! Nothing, just turns! so therefore, for me, doesnt have full range of use and really doesnt do what it is supposed to do.

the guitar feels good. the shop apparently does a bit of a touch up, the stuff that they dont do in the fender shop, but as above, came with dodgy wiring, and no support from Ralh and Sandys custom shop. I think they must use the neighbours computer on Sundays after lunch only for 10 minutes.

I cant use it at a gig cos from 0 to about 7, there is no or little volume, then right at the end, from 8 thru to 10, I get volume! One of the tone pots doesnt even do that, from 0 to 10, its ineffective. Quite a dodgy place to buy a guitar, this is teh second review on here and the review of this shop that has all 10s, seems to be a very suss review, probably done in house! No surprise there.

Customer, support, I had to beg to get mails replied, before ended up getting no response at all, and so, well, hi sandy and ralph! Good to finally see you got to see this.

I have a gretsch white falcon, 2001 American Strat, with Kinman woodstock, a Mini Maton (australian guitars) 12 string diesel special, amazing guitar. and a tanglewood, cant remember make, but yeah, a great beefy dreadnaught I have had as my acoustic workhorse. and this heap of dead wood, the (Un)satisfaction telecaster from RALPH AND SANDY??s CUSTOM GUITAR SHOP on ebay and based in Florida. I wish I could get a response and my problem attended to. But they wont even give me a start. If it was lost or stolen , I would be thousands of out of pocket and woulkdnt go near them for a re purchase. Teh guitar is deemed almost worthless as its function is made useless due to teh tone and volume pots being wired with rubber bands, well, it seems like that anyway. Dont want to buigger up any warranty, if I even have one. due to opening up the guitar. I may get fender to have a look at it. (more cost to me)

All the features have been covered by 100 reviewers so I won't go into all that. Mine has gold hardware on a sunburst body, maple neck and rosewood fretboard. It came with a hard case, a cord, the owner's manual, certificate of authenticity and two hex wrenches. Beautiful guitar with all the features anyone would need,

I play blues, classic rock (60's and 70's), country and hard rock. This guitar can handle that with no problem. I run this through a Laney VC15, Orange Crush 30 (great amp), Laney LG35R and a Peavey Blazer that I had modified to a tube amp. This guitar sounds great on all my amps. I do use a crybaby wah, fuzz face, big muff and a Yngwie Malmsteen Overdrive. If I am too lazy to hook all that stuff up, I just pull out my zoom G1.u. It's no more noisy than any other single coil guitar. I put texas specials in mine for a little more punch, so it has a hum, but the hum stops when you touch the strings. Nice twang on the bridge pup, middle position good for classic rock, neck very bluesy. The in between nock out the hum, but you loose some volume there too, so I don't use them often. Great guitar, very versatile and wsorth every penny that I paid for it.

Flawless. Ready to play right out of the box. It even arrived in tune.

I think it will last forever. No one gigs without a back up.

Been playing for 40 years but all acoustic until about 10 years ago when I went electric. I have too much gear to list here. Great guitar - it's worth the money.

String gauge came in in 0.09, but replaced it with 0.10 within minutes of it arriving at home to get more meat. This does not reflect on the guitar, but a personal preference.

Comes with strap, strap-lock, cable, Meguiar cleaning kit, a set of 3 allen keys for saddle and truss rod, manuals etc etc all in moulded hard case. In short this is the upper-class fender that receives a lot of attention, care, and case-candy from the manufacturer. The case-candy should last you a good while and get you started.

I do have one reservation. There are no spare springs. 3 came positioned in the chamber, but arguably 5 should be given away in case you have extremely heavy string-draw and need to counter-balance that draw by pulling the neck using the springs.

I play blues, blues rock, and Classic Rock (Clapton, Dire Straits, Led Zep, Deep Purple, Hendrix to name but a few) the sound of this guitar can simulate these sounds to a limited extend. the S-1 Switch offers you this versatility and the Samarium Cobalt Noiseless does compensate the hum of a standard single coil

Played clean it does not have that much 'glassbreak' sound that is the trademark of Fenders' single coil, but it does not mean that it's inferior, just different. The sound is a lot tighter and fuller than the the Alnico pickups that are installed in the American Standard

Played Dirty, each pickup is not "Clapton-quiet" that is the trademark of "Blackie", so if what you're looking for is that "woman sound" a la Eric Clapton or Buddy guy, these aren't the pickups for it. Having said that, the crunch is lively, contrary to what some of the people have said here. Its growls are warm, full, and fat, without the incredibly annoying hum or the thin distortions that are so common in the cheaper fender pickups (not the alnico of American Standards, but rather the older Highway 1 and cheaper models.)

In terms of versatility, these pickups cater for a great range of sounds, but they do not get to the extreme sonic range. It cannot perfectly emulate any particular guitarist's sound. Like I said, if you want that woman sound a la Clapton, get the Lace Sensor.

Simply the best-feeling Stratocaster I've laid my hands on, and I've owned and tried plenty of them.

In the past I have owned a Highway-1 Strat, two American Standard, and tried plenty others. This guitar is simply superior in terms of set-up and feel, because:

1) There is no fret buzz even after I considerably lowered the action.

2) The neck relief is just perfect to my liking, that is when you depress the 1st and the last fret, the gap in the 8th fret is just wide enough for you to slide a business card. This is the appropriate amount of relief for me, and that's what it was like when it came. It was just about the right concavity when you look down the neck from the head, and up from the bridge.

3) surprisingly, the strings are not choked when I bend, especially in the upper frets. contrasted with my last American strat that had to undergo major set-up process just to get it singing without choking. obviously Fender has paid good attention to balancing the sound and the feel.

And believe me, fret-buzz and choking strings will get any guitar marked down a lot by me. I gave my American strat a 6 just for these reasons. These are not something you can quickly fix and get rid off. Neck relief has to be adjusted and it takes time for it to respond after some cranking down the truss rod. action has to be raised and lowered and you have to test it one by one, and again to balance between sound and feel, not to mention if you get fret buzz or string chokes you have to do it all over again. This did not happen in the new Fender.

Pickup height was slightly high, but this is personal preference. I'm not going to hold it against Fender for raising the height. At the end of the day, all it takes is a few twist with a phillips screwdriver while you're plugged to the amp. peanuts really.

One thing I don't quite like is that the neck is a bit chunky. I don't know if this is common in the later models because I a pre-model, and it was slim. But again, I am an exception rather than the majority because I have short fingers, and every extra centimetre adden to the neck counts.

To write a fair review, this is a high-end Fender product and for what you pay, you expect this kind of set-up from them. Anything less than this you should find unacceptable.

A guitar is my extended body part, and a rule of thumb is the more frequent I play it the more often I should clean it. Hardware will oxidise and rust if you sweat on it (which on any given circumstances you will, even if you don't realise it) and don't clean it. Wax and sweat deposit will buildup in the fretboard if you don't wipe it, and the finish will suffer unless you treat it properly. In other words, If you take care of it the instrument is built to last.

Strap buttons are solid no problem

I will never go without a backup to any gig.

Emailed Fender a couple of times to certify Serial numbers etc etc, they get back quite okay. I asked them for advice regarding set ups and they are surprisingly quick. Maybe that's because in the header of the email I always quote my products' serial number. But I haven't claimed warranty or that sort, so i cannot leave a fair review in this category.

I won't know how reliable they are till "stuff" happens.

this guitar is about right in terms of value for money. it receives the kind of care and attention worthy of Fender's high-end products, which you take for granted given its price. It does cater to a whole range of sounds. I am happy with it, but this happiness is expected, given I have been wanting this guitar for 5 years now.

I wish I had properly appreciated the extra chunkiness of the neck, coupled with my preference for gauge 0.10 strings, which means to get that fretboard maneuverability I want it will take some time. Throughout this review I compared this guitar to the American Standard and the highway 1 strat, both of which I have owned.

If this guitar was lost I would hunt it down, but at ??750, I probably won't be able to afford to replace it. Still doesn't mean I won't save up to get another one.

Finally, my advice to anyone thinking of buying this guitar is do your research before you commit. Given the price tag, it is worthwhile to reflect upon your playing style and try a couple of demos in guitar shop before parting with that much money. This guitar is great for me but that's because of my style.

This is the reason for why i`m writing this review. Although the guitar feels like a dream, the sound is disapointing.

My nephew just got his american standard strat, and the sound from his guitar sounded MUCH better / closer to the guitar sound from bands like dire straits, pink floyd etc. The deluxe is fairly "characterless". To the defense of the deluxe I played them both through a vox pathfinder 15r, and this amp might not fit the deluxe very well, but still.., the standard did very well with this amp.

The sound of the deluxe is much closer to that of an acoustic compared to the standard. The deluxe imitates an acoustic very well if wanted. Using the S1 you get a much fatter muddier sound which i think is a usefull option.

My biggest issue is the tone-buttons. I almost always keep them both in the 8-10 range, and from forums i know most people do. Whats the point of making a 1-10 range if the only usefull range is 8-10? Poor by Fender, how about moving the range to 5-15 so that more range is usefull?

The samarium pickups are truly completely noiseless.

It`s like a dream. The satin neck is perfect, i don`t understand people who wants glossy sticky necks when you can get this. The setup was great with 009-046 strings. Only drawback is that the low E is a bit loose imo and i don`t like is the medium jumbo frets, i think they`re a bit too big.

The finish is flawed, with some poor finishing job on the body, else it`s good. Had it not been for the finish i`d give it a 10.

Everyting seems solid. Have only had it for 6 months or so, but it seems solid enough. The frets are getting a bit weared down.

2007 model, bought brand new. Olympic Pearl White, Alder body, with a tortoise shell pick guard. Aged plastic parts, Schaller strap-locks, deluxe tremolo, Schaller locking tuners, abalone dot inlays, maple neck with silver 'Fender' logo on the headstock.

This is the S/S/S version with the Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pick-ups, and of course being a Deluxe model it has the S1 Switching system. There's also the nice addition at the joint of the neck, where as opposed to the standard models, the area where the back plate is rounded off, allowing for better high-register access.

Came included with Fender moulded case, a leather strap and 10ft lead. A huge array of features and extras, which is well worth the extra hundred you'd pay for a standard US Strat.

I'm a player who never really sticks to one style, sometimes blues, sometimes prog, sometimes jazz, rock, experimental, rockabilly, all sorts to be honest, but it's a guitar suited to all territories. One of the few occasions where it's a case of 'jack of all trades, master of all'. I've previously owned various incarnations of Strats, including an American Standard, a custom made one with P-90 pick-ups, Mexican, Japanese, Squier, and so forth. Without a shadow of a doubt this is the best sounding one I've played; I'm a big fan of single coil pick ups, but it's always been a double edged sword with them, having the wonderful clarity and bite, but at the same time having to endure with the hiss, especially when applied with overdrive. The SCN pick ups however are a godsend; they retain all the positive aspects of single-coils whilst eliminating the irritation of excess noise, which is very useful for recording applications. I used this guitar through a Marshall JVM410 Combo, and it sounds great through every channel, from clean (of course), to the heaviest overdrive (which whilst I rarely use, it still sounds fantastic).It could be said that the SCN pick ups lack that 'vintage' sound, but I honestly think it's just a case of not being used to hearing a Strat without the hiss. I've recorded myself playing, and the tone is undoubtedly Strat sounding, and beyond that thanks to the S-1 switch.

The S1 switching system also allows for huge variations in tone, as most include the usage of a 'Special capacitor'. For example, the usual bridge position includes the middle pick up with the SC, and when used with a meaty overdrive it delivers a tone similar to that of a Brian May solo. I have yet to find a bad sound from this guitar, it's the classic Strat configuration paired with modern innovation.

The guitar was perfectly set-up from out of the box. Pretty much all the guitars I've owned from new have had one or more faults with them, such as fret buzz, rattling saddles, and on a couple of occasions something with the electrics (which is a huge faux pas in my opinion, considering that most of these guitars underwent testing before leaving the factory). This however was just right, not a fault to be found, just as you'd expect from an American built guitar.

It plays perfectly from top to bottom, and the finish is absolutely gorgeous.

I plan on using this guitar live in the very near future, and I'm certain it'll withstand the test. I use various guitars when performing, including a PRS Mira for humbucker tone and my P-90 Strat tuned half a step down, but I think from now on I'll be using this as my main instrument, for both lead and rhythm work.

The hardware of course is to a very high standard, the locking tuners are very reassuring in regards to keeping tuning stable, considering that I utilise the tremolo. I've found that the locking tuners help immensely when restringing it; with Strats I've owned in the past I've found that they needs three or four tunings before it begins to stabilise.

Schaller strap locks come equipped as standard, which was a nicely added touch. Overall, it's a Strat, it's built to last and take as much you can throw at it, and still love you in return.

Haven't had to deal with them yet, but it comes with a years warranty. I've dealt with Fender in the past when I needed an amp repairing, and they were more than helpful. However, seeing as I haven't dealt with them on this occasion (and hopefully I won't have to), I'll leave this rating blank.

I've been playing for 7 years now, and as I said I've owned various Strats, amongst other guitars, including solid-bodies, and hollow-bodies. I currently also own a PRS Mira, a custom ash Strat with P-90's, and a Gretsch Country Classic. I play all of these through a Marshall JVM410C, with a few pedals including a ZVex Fuzz Factory, an EHX Small Stone Phaser and a Toadworks Lil' Leo American overdrive (for that little extra kick).

If this guitar was stolen, asides from being incredibly distraught over the loss and violation, I'd most definitely buy it again. I started out playing a Strat, and despite my foray into other brands and models, it still ultimately feels natural for me to play this. Of course this is personal opinion, but I can't recommend this guitar enough.

Sure it won't suit everyone; of course it's the wrong cup of tea for metal players, and perhaps even those who prefer humbuckers or Les Paul type guitars (but I would suggest they try one of these before they turn their nose up at the deceivingly classic Strat configuration). I even know people who can't stand bolt-on necks, but all guitars have an ergonomic curb, and I generally think people who can't get around this are severely limiting themselves.

Overall, I love this guitar, and can happily go as far as to say it's the best guitar I have ever played (and this is a very bold statement coming from myself). I've played guitars that include top-end PRS Custom's, Gibson, Prestige Ibanez, Gretsch, and whilst they are indeed fantastic guitars in their own right, I was always disappointed in what they had to offer considering their high price tags. With this guitar, it was the first time that I felt that I hadn't paid ENOUGH for it! Fantastic construction, amazing sound, a huge variety in tone, playability that demands fingerboard athletics, looks that would bring any guitar aficionado to their knees, and more than enough added accessories (it even came with a Fender polishing kit!).

In my opinion, this is one of the best guitars Fender makes today, simply magnificent.

2007 American Deluxe Strat. 22 fret rosewood fingerboard. It has the noiseless pickups (S/S/S) and S-1 switching system. 2 point tremolo and Schaller locking tuners. Came with strap, cord, strap locks, Meguliar's care kit and hardshell case.

I play mainly blues, jazz and classic/southern rock. The guitar will get most any sound to fit these styles relatively easy, with the exception of a fat jazz sound. Dialing that in takes a fair amount of fiddling with the tone and volume control and the room seems to play a factor in this also. The S-1 system provides many different tonal options. For example, if you set the pickup control between the neck and middle pickups, roll the tone back to about 4, engage the S-1 switch and add a fuzz pedal, you will get a good Clapton "woman" sound. If you roll the tone back a bit further, it sounds quite a bit like a P-90. Think the opening riff to COC's "Albatross".
This guitar doesn't really have a traditional Strat sound. It's a little darker sounding than most others I've played. It gets about 90% of the way there, but if you want the classic sparkling chiming clean Strat sound, spend an extra $200-$500 and buy a 50's reissue or an EJ signature.
Overall, a very good guitar. I like the fact that I can get thicker sounds than I can out of any other Strat that I own.

Set-up was excellent from the factory. No issues whatsoever.

This seems like a very well made guitar. I don't tend to be as rough on my gear as I used to be but the hardware seems like it will last a long time.
I would never gig without at least 2 guitars for backup. Lots of things can go wrong in the course of a 5-6 hour evening.

Never had to deal with Fender.

I've been playing for more than 20 years. I own an EC Strat, a mongrel Strat that I pieced together,a Fender Highway One Tele, an Epiphone Les Paul w/ EMGs, Washburn Idol, Dean FBD ML, Gibson SG, Gibson Firebird Studio, Gibson Les Paul Standard, Taylor Acoustic, and a Washburn Acoustic.
I'm very happy with this one. If it were stolen, I would buy another if I could find one that was built as well as this one is. I love the fact that I can manipulate the controls and get close to the sound of an SG or Firebird.
I didn't really compare it to anything when I bought it. I went into the store to buy some more picks and walked out with this.

My Strat is a 2005 American deluxe ash Strat with a soft V neck. Absolutely beautiful!

The body is Ash which adds to the finish's appeal as it has a nice grain patern that shows up very well through the finish. My strat is in a "Sienna Sunburst" finish, which is similar to the cherry sunburst you might see on other guitars. The gloss coat on the body is nice and thick and realy shines through.

The neck is the main reason I bought this guitar, it is a "Soft V" which feels just as thick as the standard Deluxe but in my opinion contours to your hand a little better. The matt finish makes playability so much easier adding extra smoothness to the movements you make. The headstock is a thick gloss finish with the deluxe silver logo.

There are 22 frets on a maple fretboard, inlayed with lovely abolone instead of the usual plastic. The nut is bone and all frets are of the jumbo variety, the fretboard is also well finished with nicely rolled edges.


The guitar comes setup with some nice hardware. The machine heads are of the locking variety; just slot in the string tighten the thumbscrew and tune. The bridge is a two point synchronized trem which has nice smooth saddles that are very comfy to rest you hand on. I have tightened the claw screws in the back of the trem so that it makes it a little more stable (I don't use the trem)

The pickups are SCN's. Everybody should know how a strat is setup, and isn't everybodies first guitar a strat or strat replica?

Now I said my Strat is fitted with SCN's, however I bought the guitar fitted with EMG's, which were rubbish so I promptly sold them and had the original SCN's fitted again.

But because the original electronics were not included and Fender do not sell aftermarket S-1 switches, I had the guitar wired up without the S-1 (personally I'm not a fan of the S-1 scooped sound anyway).

The sound I now get from this is amazing, Some people say they are lifeless like EMG's, They are not they are full of character and have a rich sound clean or distorted.

If noisless is good enough for Clapton it's good enough for the rest of us. Right!

The other complaint I hear is that the Bridge pickup is too hot and over the top with treble. Now the Ash does add a little warmth to the sound but the bridge has a distinct treble side to it, and they were made like this for a reason, technology updates and so do the sounds. So if you don't like it go buy a 50's reissue!

The pickups are well ballanced, and are slightly hot but not over the top, you can roll back the volume knob just slightly and it adds a little softness to the sound. The best comparrison for these pickups are the 69's on my Jap reissue, just hotter and louder.

Absolutely no complaints here. Everyone has their own prefered setups, so you can't expect every guitar straight out of the box to be just the way you wanted it to be.

This came with 9's so I promptly replaced them with 10's and adjusted the sadles for intonation and to raise the string height just a touch.

The only thing I noticed was that the frets had some varnish buit up on them, this came off as I played it though. Note: this is only a feature of maple fretboards as rosewood fretboards aren't varnished!

I was so excited about buying this guitar as it is one that you can tell will last a lifetime and age beautifully. I'm a big fan of the aged look guitars. With a thin finish on the neck and being a maple fretboard, it should start to show signs of ageing in a few years, the rosewood would look newer longer but who cares. The finish on the body is durable and will last a long time.

The hardware is all very solid, and looks great, It won't age quite like the original stamped hardware but seems to have a thick chrome that will last longer than the stamped ones.

Never dealt with them.

For a premium priced guitar it delivers what it has to offer well. It has some great features (minus the S-1)and sounds that are easily textured to your needs. If you have read reviews about SCN pickups and are concerened about having to replace them, I would strongly encourage you to try them before having futher doubts. They are great sounding pickups that will give you an amazing array of tones.

I now only own two guitars, one is my Strat and the other is an Australian Boutique guitar called a "Belman" which is similar to a PRS or double cut Les Paul. This guitar gives me my rock tones and my Strat is a great all rounder capable of huge tones and excellent playablity.

Rating 10... Buy It!!!

Features have been covered. It's made in USA (a plus, economically speaking). The finish is Tobacco Burst; the pick-ups are SCN (i.e., Bill Lawrence design) with the S-1 switch. Mine is an Ash body and a Rosewood fingerboard... a good looking combination of color. All the basic Strat features, except for the S-1 switch, the pop-in trem-bar and the Schaller locking tuners.

Sound is exceptionally clear. Some have complained that the pickups don't capture that classic Stratocaster sound... I have no complaints in this department. The S-1 switch is an interesting add-on, if you tweek your amp and play with pickup selections, this switch adds a lot of functionality to an otherwise standard 5-way, on/odd/on/odd/on pickup selection (refering to the muted sound of two pickups in series at positions 2 and 4). I'm playing through a Blues Jr. amp and find the guitar to be "sparkly," as described in other reviews. Cranked up and loud, it can be dirty like a blues guitar should be. Virtually no feedback through Bill's pickups (I've installed his pickups in Strat clones with similar results - they're simply amazing! Good on Fender for their choice in designer).

The guitar is beautiful. The Ash body has wonderful grain, and it isn't obscurred by this Tobacco burst... the amber hugh really lets the grain shine through. At a glance, the body appears to be one solid piece of wood. My only complaint is a small dent near the upper bout strap lock, as though someone applied some wrench pressure and contacted the wood. Otherwise, the overall finish is very nicely done. Aged pickguard and knobs are a nice touch as well. The neck on this guitar is very smooth. I compare it (favorably) to my Epiphone Sheraton, which has a glass-smooth action. The strings were a tad high and I'll have those dropped when I put another set on. Otherwise, the playability is extraordinary. I'd give it a 10 if it weren't for the dent near the upper strap lock.

These Fenders were designed to be production run guitars (bolt together, take apart, bolt back together). I don't forsee any problems in the design or construction. Strap locks are nice but a bit klunky, will probably replace those with standard buttons so I can move straps between guitars more easily. Everything looks solid; anticipate no problems.

No experience. However, I will put in a plug for Musician's Friend... I'd asked for over-night shipping and over-night turned into 8 days (long story... too many variables to discuss). To their credit, MF not only refunded me $137.00 in shipping for the late delivery, but also gave me a $100.00 store credit for my trouble (hence the Blues Jr amp!!!). My hat's off to the way they handled my discontentment at the time, and I remain a loyal customer.

Been playing off-n-on for 30 years (more off than on); have never spent this kind of moola on a guitar. Own an Epiphone Sheraton II, a Peavey Detonator JX, and a home-made number (resembles an SG/LesPaul, chambered mahogany body with maple top, Warmoth neck). This is truely a top-of-the-line guitar, in my opinion. My Epiphone is nice, but the pickups on this thing really make it stand out - the sound is increadible. Stolen? If they beat me to the door, I guess they own it - I'd file an insurance claim and replace it tomorrow! I looked long and hard at the Strat options before settling on this, and the deciding factors were "Made in USA" and the Bill Lawrence Pickups. Again, never had a truely nice, top-of-the-line guitar before. Read many reviews that said the Deluxe line was equal to the Custom Shop offerings, without the "custom" features, so I think I did well overall. I'd say it was well worth the price paid. I wish it came with a classic rectangle case, but the "Chinese-made" tupper-ware number was very sturdy. Outsourcing is part of the global economy... get used to it!

This one is the lastest model: 3x Sam.Cobalt noiseless single coils with S1 switching, deluxe trem; rosewood fretboard on maple neck, select(as opposed to unselected I suppose?) alder body. To my mind, this particular guitar has the pleasing combo of "olympic" pearl white and a faux tortoiseshell guard. The neck was made in 2006, whilst the assembly took place(in Mexico! The cheek!)this year(2007)
I remember having a Plus Deluxe in the 90s(as they were called in the UK): I note, then, that nowadays we have lost the Wilkinson roller nut: though I gather the Fender LSR is superior, this is only included in the HSS as far as Deluxes go. We've also got Fender Schaller locking tuners: I think the earlier ones had Sperzels. Gone too are the old Fender Lace blue, silver and red combo: we've gone through the recent incarnation of Noiseless before the present S-C Noiseless..and I gather a whole lot warmer they are too. There is an opinion that the old Laces were sterile-sounding: I'd agree with this, though I'd add that the old bodies did have an ash "cap", which may have added extra toppiness. I say this because when I put Virtual Vintages in the old one, it still sounded a bit devoid of warmth.
Also absent is the tremsetter, installed as standard in the older Plus Deluxes: the good news is that what with the Schallers, we should be stable enough...and be able to get a Jeff Beck warble for a whole lot less cash. This is of course now dependent on the nut: I'm glad to say the overall height of the nut is spot on here, but there's a tad of catching on the G on this present Deluxe which adds a little bit of an overtone. A bit of pencil lead and we should be good to go.
One other "feature": out of the box, the neck looks lovely...sort of played in and shiny. Oddly, though, this is some kind of temporary addition...I think it seems like silicon: the neck gets claggy(nice word!) upon first playing, and has an annoying squeak in the palm. This soon goes with playing and is not as unpleasant as the months of yuk a Gibson owner has to put up with on a new guitar!
One of the features that attracted me also was price: I picked this up for an excellent UK price of ??800: I thought long and hard, eventually deciding that this is as good as is gets without going Custom Shop. I was attracted overall by the actual absence of what I consider to be unnecessary bits: tremsetter/LSR(I never trust these to not add warble to open strings); the body/neck wood would, I thought, work well to restrain the pickups from too much soullessness. The finish of the board, body and frets was very good: I felt confident...AND I do like the recessed heel: nice touch, and practical too.

My requirements were simply that this guitar be good. Just that. That the money I paid for it would reflect a decent level of knowledge and commitment in the maker of it. I remember being very brassed off after paying out for a Gibson that was supposed to be the "standard" benchmark of excellence, then finding the nut was tripe and the frets unfinished.
Basically, I need this start to be silent, as I'm recording. I want the switching to work. If the pups then sound so, so stratty..well, that's a bonus given that we've got stacked buckers.
For these purposes I used as my reference-point a Fender Japan 68 RI strat in maple and ash; my amp is an Engl Vintage Sovereign 100W.
I'll add that I also set the Deluxe's pickups low: very low: maybe an eighth out of the body. I believe this really lets the pups breathe on this model: if any of you are getting tinny noises or stratitis, drop those pups and rejoice.
I was instantly pleased: I could actually hear the wood, rather than the pickups, if you know what I mean: resonant low-mids, warm textured yet full tops. A definite alder-body/rosewood necked strat. As I'd lowered the pickups, they were the same perceived output as the gorgeously-toned 68RI: I know I've got a bit of "hotness" in reserve, should I wish it, too. The loveliest thing was the release of that middle pickup: rather than this just being a means of mixing it up to reduce noise as of old, I now have a quacky, ballsy middle pup that has a voice of its own.
That"real" nut, along with these distinctly superior pickups, have fully unlocked what always should have been a high-end strat: well done Fender(and I rarely use those words in the same sentence).
Pots are fine: smooth and helpful, non-muddy: so much better than the Japan Strat here..and mercifully without that totally useless and misleading TBX of the older Plus Deluxe. Ah, to be able to record in 24-bit, go to clean just by rolling off the volume and letting the capacitor work: lovely: I feel I can actually RELY on this instrument.
So far so good: if the S1 gives me a couple of usable sounds, I'll be happy enough: Depress the push-push pot with some anxiety(a few 2005 models seem to have had defective switching..needing the pain of a return to a Fender dealer(no, they don't sell them to us!): very nice. In fact, if you take time to try several combos of vol rolloff and tone rolloff, there are some absolutely gorgeous sounds here. There is noticeably a full-mid bucker sound in there and a host of FX that would negate the need to scroll through several EQ presets, for example. The perfect icing would be to have a setting for combining just neck and bridge(why have they left this out?)..but a small gripe really.
By this time, the tone configurations had left my Japan strat behind..and these work all the way up and down the neck rather than mudding-out at the dusty end.
One other thing: there are many, many other tones in there to be had just from varying pick attack and placement: digging in at the bridge, then thumbing around the neck..voila: 2 diffent voicings.
With the alder body and rosewood board these are 1st-class pups: I could imagine an ash bodied maple-necked model, with pickups 2mm under the strings, rendering the player quite distraught.
I've heard that "vintage" tones are not to be had with S-C noiseless pups: well, I'd almost disagree; Jeff Beck is easily there, as is Robert Cray; Knopfler(heck ,with a wah as tone modulator, Carlos turns up too)...thing is, I was into Rory Gallagher and even Roy Buchanan territory too..and without adjusting amp settings at all. Explore the vol/tone side, young Skywalker..
I forgot to say: this guitar has good, full acoustic resonance too: something the older Plus Deluxe did not have(IMO and experience). I'm sure, for those retrofitters out there, any decent aftermarketters would do fine: Fralins, Wizard Tweed Tones, BKP Irish Tours, Bill Lawrence, etc;

Signs are that this guitar has been built with some degree of pride: frets are well-finished and set. Trem springs needed a turn slacker to get the bridge right; action, though too high for me, was arguably fine, as was intonation. Neck curvature was about right: it might need a quarter-turn straighter but the neck itself is straight(unwarped)..and gone is that alarming "S" profile that could happen at the dusty end on a rosewood-on-maple neck(the woods contracting at different rates).
The nut, as I said earlier, is at the correct overall height but has a bit of a "groink" on the G. Tuners seem stable, trem responsive.
Pots are fine, though one tone pot is a tad stiff; mercifully, the S1 switching works(day one!).
I believe the pots are 250s: I notice with alarm that Fender recommend 1Meg pots: I couldn't think of a more sure way to totally knacker your sound, to be honest. 250s are just right.

Yep, excellent for recording and live work if only for the ease of use around lighting circuits! The array of workable tones complements this, as do the pots. I do like the continued inclusion of straplocks..the included strap is of good quality too!(in fact, the "case candy" is pretty good, to be honest. The finish and colour is hardwearing(why anyone would pay loads more for something that's made up to look battered, sounds buzzy, then worries about wear and tear..is beyond me)
If the S1 continues to function(no reason to think it won't) then we have a regular high-end working guitar here.

I'm unsure what "limited lifetime"warranty actually is. I've heard 2 recent reports in the UK of the S1 switch(vol push-push)breaking: each tome it's been a pilaver, as the guitar had to be picked up and taken to a Fender dealer, then Head Office authorisation needed to get a pot out to the dealer. Other than that, I've found some online support can be a bit misleading: some diagrams will refer to models' previous incarnations rather than present ones...many a modder has ended up putting in wrong pots(for instance), so be wary and wise.

I took a chance here, buying unseen, as it were. For both recording and live purposes I need consistency: I have to "warm up" my Gibson LP Standard for 20 mins before it is stable enough to record a whole track with; I have to retune my Yamaha SG2000 a few times before its Bare Knuckle Mules shine; my Fender Japan 68RI is gorgeous as long as I use positions 2 and 4; my PRS Custom 24 is a very nice one-trick pony.
They all do very well through both a POD XT and Engl Sovereign: what I do like about the Deluxe is that I can get a whole panoply of different sounds without changing amp models or positioning myself away from lights and e.m. sources. In fact, just having the wah as tone shaper, I've got a whole lotta tone and whole lot less noise floor. I love the middle pickup: a whole new pickup with its own voice, IMO; the switching means I don't have to change guitars as often; I can step away from the usual confinements if humbucker or single coil, in favour of what tone works where.
I was initially miffed that I have no LSR or tremsetter till I remembered that I wouldn't want them anyway! It's alder-rosewood combo is the perfect offset to my main lead recorder/gigger(the Fender Japan): what with the price, I believe I've got something that holds its own with many a Custom Shop model along with being an excellently- valuable instrument in its own right. Miles, miles better than my former Lace-sensored Plus Deluxe without a doubt.

Ash body, maple neck, abalone dot inlays, locking tuners, vintage noisless pickups and a tremelo.

The vintage noiseless pickups suck. They are the wimpiest I've ever heard, sounds like Eric Johnson's limp wristed tone. I think the ash body makes it even worse. Might be a good tone for a smooth jazz player, if your into that. I ordered it and decided to keep it thinking someday I would replace the bridge if not all pickups, but I just sold it a month ago instead.

I have to give it a one because of the fret work. I bought this 6 years ago when I was eighteen and didn't fully realize that it's not normal to have glue all over almost every fret. Durp! The jap strat I bought years before this one was ten times better in the quality control department. It had a maple neck and the frets were at least nicely worked on the sides. Intonation was fine when I got it and I was able to get the action where I wanted it without to much adjustment. I just can't get past the glue, total b_______t for a $1200(at the time) guitar. The grain in the wood was excellent, lots of definition.

It seemed solid enough but the tremelo compromises tuning stability, of coarse. I blocked it off and the tuning heads seemed to always hold well. Fender's input jacks always suck but everything else was fairly durable. I probably put over 1000 hours on it before I sold it.

The lack of tone and the excess fret glue crawling up each fret make this a real lemon. The 3rd and last fender I'll ever buy. Everyone knows it's mass produced junk. Chinese slave labor isn't known for it's sound construction and tight tolerances. This might have been assembled by illegal aliens in California but the hardware is manufactured in China. I dumped this s__t heap on someone who doesn't even play for $600. By the way, Fender amps suck too, but you probably already know that!

Features are excellent - really beautiful finishes, and a superbly crafted instrument. It is a shame that this can't be carried into the whole USA range, at least in terms of the unusual colours. This has the noiseless pickups, and the S-1 switching system. Has locking tuners, which I don't think are really necessary, and some nice little finishes here and there. I tried the SSS version.

Here is the problem. Although it sounded fine, I played it alongside a normal American Series Strat (which I eventually bought), and it didn't sound as good. Although it was noiseless, the pickups were just somehow a bit deader, or lacking that sharpness that stratocaster single coils can produce. It was close, but for the extra money you would probably expect something a bit superior. The S-1 switching did produce some really interesting tones, but I don't think it offers anything more exciting than a HSS strat would give (especially one with a coil tap). In this sense, it felt like the guitar was trying to do too much. I think guitars should sound good in a basic, clean sense, and then let the amp do the rest of the work. The quality of the basic pickup sound is essential. I think you probably need Alnico rather than Cobalt.

Action was excellent, set up very good. No flaws.

Overall a very dependable guitar I would imagine. I didn't actually buy it in the end though. I worried about the S-1 system breaking though.

Overall, a decent guitar with some flashy options on it, but probably not worth the extra money. Go for the basic strat, USA if you can afford one, or Mex/Squier if not.

2005 Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster, 3-Color Sunburst, Rosewood fretboard, standard S-S-S pickup configuration with S-1 switching. All the other stantndard features noted in other reviews. I give this category a 10 for features because, all things considered this is probagbly the most "feature-loaded" Strat out there that doesn;t come from the Custom Shop with the Custom Shop price tag: S-1 switching system, nice pick-ups, locking tuners, strap locks, very nice hardware and detail work, etc. The only thing it doesn't have is a locking nut and locking tremelo.

With the pickup switching system, this guitar will make all the usual Fender sounds (ranging from clear and bright to snarly and raunchy) plus some fatter ones, too. Not Gibson PAF fat. Not metal-fat. But, pretty darned fat for a single-coil Strat. More like jazzy-fat. When you either have to or want to play just one guitar for a wide ranging set list, this one works very well.

Again, for a non-Custom Shop Strat, this is the best. When I bought mine, I was lucky enough to be able to look through a bunch of them and pick the best but, all of them were nice.

It is my go-to guitar for gigs, rehearsals, whatever. Our rehearsal space is actually harder on equipment than gigs (tight quarters). It has been dropped, fallen off its stand (onto concrete), had various adult beverages spilled on it. It's a brick house.

Playing 30-odd years. Other guitars: American Deluxe Tele (another nice guitar but not nearly as versatile), Les Paul Standard (neck-breaker) and an ES-335 (sweet). All played through various low-powered Fender tube amps. I love this guitar. Period.

Mine has a maple fingerboard. The S-1 series adds usable vesatility. Locking tuners are convenient and work well. Came with strap locks.

I love the way this strat sounds. Very warm, clear, and strong. Records really well, too. I don't play live. The noiselss pickups help a lot; they're really quiet. I play classic-style rock and a smattering of other styles, too. This is great for even jazz, imo. I tried a few fat strats, but though the bridge pickup may have been cool in those, the configuration detracted from the sound of the neck and middle pickups slightly, I thought, so I went for the usual 3 single-coil configuration because I'm mainly intersted in the basic strat sound. I have a Gretsch Country Gentleman I think sounds better (though very different), but this is the nicest sounding strat I've owned.

Very nice frework. The Highway 1s I tried seemed rough and ragged in comparison. The rounded frets make for very smooth playing. I set it up with 10 gauge strings, so I had to reset the tremolo, which is a little dicey, but not a real problem. I also reset the action and pickups and intonation, and don't recall the original setup. The finish and abalone this and that look very nice, and I do like the finish on the neck better than the normal satin finish, but that's just me. Mine has the sunburst finish.

I don't gig, only record. It seems solid, though.

I played when I was a teeneager in the 1970s, and owned a 1967-ish Strat at the time. I only play as a hobby now, but I've gone through a number of Les Pauls, Strats and Teles, Guild Starfire, and only have the Gretsch Country Gentleman 1962 reissue and this Strat now. I currently use Mesa Rocket 44 and Vox AC30cc2x amps. This guitar sounds great trhough both.

Beautiful Sunburst Alder Body, Looks like 1p Maple neck (or 2?), SSS with 2 point tremolo bridge, 5 way selector, 3 knobs (as usual).
VERY QUIET SCN Pickups, S-1, CRAPPY Case. although the case- this is the most featured start I tried (and I under stood that the new VG sounds like CRAP). Locking Tuners by Scaller (Great Feature).

Installed Dunlop Straplocks. But the Nut is plastic. Medium Jumbo Frets, 22.

Even through a 25R Frontman it sounds great. the pickups are so quiet and dynamic! The S-1 (On evrey select- exept bridge + middle that I'm sure sounds wonderful but I di not use this position) SOUND FANTASTIC! The only anoying this is that the tremolo arm keep going out of the bridge hole (but the guitar stay in tune when I use it through the locking tuner).

THE BEST GUITAR I EVER PLAYED ON.

This is a 2000 model American Deluxe Strat. It has a transparent green finish on an ash body. It has the faded "green" style pickguard. Three vintage noiseless pickups and a rosewood fingerboard with the typical 9 1/2 in. radius neck. Locking Sperzel tuners and the standard trem system were found on most of these models. It came with the standard molded case(since replaced), strap, cable and polishing cloth.

For the longest time, this was my favorite "all purpose" guitar. It had most of the Fender "bite" that a Strat is famous for, none of the buzz with the noiseless pickups and a somewhat more rounded tone which made it sound a bit fuller than a standard single coil model. I have used it mostly with Fender tube and modeling amps and the match works out quite well. It never quite sounded as good when I used it through a Marshall TSL 601 combo amp but I didn't use that amp for too long. The best part of the noiseless pickups is the ability to use all the pickup selector positions without any sign of hum.

This guitar has seen a lot of use and it still looks really good. The action has always been just right as I tend to like it on the low side. All the knobs, pickup switch, tunig machines and other hardware have never been a problem. I love locking tuners as they keep the guitar in tune for extended periods.

I have used it as my main guitar for the past seven years now and it has fallen off the guitar stand a few times without major damage. The finish is solid, the hardware is as good as new and it has survived some very cold and hot venues! It's a tank!

Never needed it for this guitar.

I traded in a Gibson SG Standard and a 1987 American Standard Strat for this guitar in 2000. It has been my main guitar up until this year when I purchased an American Deluxe V-Neck Strat to add to the collection. The S-1 switching system with the SCN pickups on that guitar are even more versitile than this guitar and I now play them both a lot. This being the older Strat with the older noiseless pickups is a bit mellower sounding and that works fine for most of the playing my classic rock band does. I'm a rhythm player primarily and the sound needs to cut through a bunch of other instruments(keyboard/horns/lead guitar) and it does that really well.

Okay, it's a USA made Strat from 2004. 22 fret, 9/5" radius, C neck, locking tuners, Med Jumbo frets, rosewood board, SCN pups (SSS). Nothing outrageous, just a combination that makes it right.

I play classic blues rock and blues through a Rivera Clubster. The SCNs offer a little more flexibility on the sound variations that allow the single coils to play some more biting riffs. But it still is a little short on the single coil scream that you can get from some of the older strat single coils.

They are so much quieter though, its a good trade off.

The finish was flawless. The sunburst had others drooling. From the factory it had action a little higher than I'd prefer, and a set of 9s. NOTE TO FENDER: You have to stop putting 9s on your higher grade equipment, we just swap them for 10s or higher anyway! After adjusting the action, its pure...

Why a 10? Because to me, there's a reason the strat is the most copied guitar style ever! The body contours make it comfortable to play for hours, the neck fits like a glove, and you can make it do just about anything you want. It is the ultimate guitar after all.

Again, its a strat, and a good one. This thing will play into my senior years. It will handle gigs without backups if I'd want to risk it, but that would call ol' Murphy into striking it with lightning or something. Always have a backup!

Fender has gotten some bad raps on support. I had a issue with another guitar and although they didn't break their neck getting it right, they were helpful.

Played too long to count, and owned a few other axes (Gibbys - too heavy and too expensive, Schecter - nice at first, but didn't keep my interest, some Mex strats and Teles - solid gear at a cheap price).

I would have to say the best thing about a strat is its comfortable to play and as dependable as your best dog. I honestly can't come up with a thing I don't like about it, except I don't have another one in white!

One word of warning, if you steal this - I'm armed...

I have two of these guitars, both with the standard features--trem, SCN pickups, S-1 switching. Both have maple fretboards. One of them is the "v-neck" model. Locking tuners. One was made in 2004, and the other 2005. They are both in the standard s-s-s pickup configuration. The features on these guitars are great. They are extremely stable, tuning-wise, and amazingly versatile--especially with the S-1 switching. The S-1 switch basically re-configures the wiring of the pickups. From a sound perspective, it does this: each pickup retains its characteristic sound, but becomes thicker. For me, it's especially useful for solos, etc. Even though I don't use the S-1 that much, it's nice to have.

The sound of this guitar is amazing. I waited two years to do this review, to give myself time to really sample what the guitar could do. The SCN pickups are silent. They are slightly fuller sounding than regular Strat pickups. They also have a much more even response across all of the strings. Still, they are very "stratty", and bright. They seem a little hotter than typical Strat pickups, and are much better for controlled feedback. My main disappointment with Strats (and they are my favorite guitar) was never that the pickups weren't clear enough, but that for some things they just didn't have enough "substance". That has been resolved with the SCN pickups. I recently completed a "project guitar" featuring Lindy Fralin pickups. Sadly, in my opinion, the Fralins don't measure up to the SCN's. The Fralins are MUCH better than stock Strat pickups, but I always find myself gravitating toward the American Deluxe.

I ordered my guitar from Fender, so when it got to the store, no one had touched it except at the Fender factory. It needed to be set up (action was a little high, and I block the trem.), but otherwise, everything was good, and worked well together. The only problem was that the neck was a little loose, but Fender might ship them that way, and leave it to the dealer to tighten some of those things up. The frets and finish work were beautiful.

I have used this guitar quite a bit for two years now, and sometimes I play it fairly hard. It's tough and reliable. The finish and all of the hardware is great--bulletproof. If it weren't for occasionally breaking a string (maybe 3 in two years), I'd have no problem going without a backup. HOWEVER...beware of the S-1 switch. About a month after I got it, the switch went out, and the guitar didn't work well. Fortunately, Fender replaced it (see below) and there hasn't been a problem since. I have been told that Fender had a bad batch of switches, and I have no reason to doubt it, since I haven't had any trouble with the switch in my other American Deluxe. Outside of that switch, it's very tough.

When my switch went out, I took it back to the local store, and they dealt with Fender. Fender was very good about it, and actually replaced the whole wiring harness. Both the local store and Fender were great. There's a lesson here, though: if you're buying a nice guitar, buy it locally, so that someone can actually help you if something goes wrong.

I've been playing for 20+ years. I've owned many different guitars, mostly Strats & Teles. I do mostly original stuff--reggae to Clapton-esque type music. This guitar is better all-around than anything I've owned or tried. It is simply the most musical and versatile guitar around. I guess the best testimony I could give would be that after buying this guitar a couple years ago, all of my "backup" guitars seemed REALLY lame. So...I sold them and bought another American Deluxe Strat (used and cheaper). It drove me nuts to play those guitars again, and a couple of them were supposed to be pretty nice. My favorite feaures on this guitar are the SCN pickups, and the neck, which is perfectly shaped and finished. If it were stolen or lost, I would (thankfully) have my backup American Deluxe Strat. I can't imagine going back to a regular Strat. The ONLY complaint I have is that I wish Fender made a HARDTAIL American Deluxe Strat. If you're wondering whether to buy this or a different Strat-type-thing, save yourself some years of frustration and irritation. Spend the extra money and get one of these.

'06 am dlx strat 3tsb, locking tuners, 2-point trem, rosewood 'board wot 9.5" radius and med. jumbo fretwire. Select alder body, modern (fatter) c-shape neck. Cme witha junk plastic molded case with polystyrene inside. Passive electronics. Tone controls fr all pup's and a no-load for the bridge.

Great for my musical tastes (blues, rock, jazz) and has a nice jazz tone thanks to the S-1 switch. Great outta phase sounds it and sounds excellent straight into my hotrod deluxe. Dead quiet thanks to the SCN's but, IMHO they are a bit muddy and lack low end definition. Great with high levels of distortion. Very full sounding neck and mid, and you can get some nice twangy-countryish tones from the bridge pup. IMHO it is one of, if not the most versatile strat with the S-1 switching and the SCN's are great for recording purposes.

My guitar was set up with a med-low action and played like it was strung with rubber bands with the 9's it came with. After raising the action (fo tone and sustains sake) and stringing it up with 11's
i can get a nice full, rich sounding bluesy tone with a hint of drive on my amp. Pups definietly needed tweaking... once i took the screws out to get rid of the stupid plastic on the 'guard. Nice bookmatching of grain and a great 3tsb paint-job. Only flaw is that the nut slots are a bit narrow and some string hitching occurs on the third string with trem use. I also installed 5 spring in the trem cavity and ste the bridge flush.It now stays in tune properly. I Absolutely love the neck on this thing!

This guitar could withstand anything but my only concern is the S1 switching device, I don't know how long mine will last because the one i played in the shop was busted. Came with schaller strap locks and they will not come off (hopefully). Would definetly gig without a backup.

Been playing about 6 years and own a cort acoustic, a Hot rod deluxe amp, Larivee om-03re acoustic, Hondo II 'special' LP copy (not so special, actually), and a washburn nylon string.
If stolen or lost (Heaven frobid!) I would probably get an Eric Johnson Sig. strat although this is a fantastic guitar and i think it's a great buy. I love all the great modern features. I just wish it had true single coil pup's about '59 spec.

Mine is a 2006 model. Specifically it is a American Deluxe Ash Stratocaster Aged Cherry Burst Maple (fretboard) model. It has SCN pickups with s-1 switching. It is tonally very versatile. The S-1 switching gives it warmer tones that standard single coil wiring. I comes with locking tuners.

There is not have a Floyd Rose trem nor a roller nut so I'll knock off a point for freatures. It has the typical Strat limits on how much you can use the trem before you get tuning inconsistencies. It's been that way for decades and I can live with it.

This guitar sounds awesome tonally. It covers alot of sonic territory. It is a very high quality instrument and has no hums hisses given it's design type. It sound beautiful clean and distorts well with the s1 switch engaged.

Unlike alot of other solid body guitars that are derived from LesPauls, this guitar can do both rythem and lead well. Many electrics sound good only in lead roles.

I got mine from Sweetwater and it came ready to tune and play out of the box. It took far longer to get the protective film off the the pickguard than to make it playable. The trem as mentioned above CAN knock the guitar out of tune if used too much, but is useful for vibrato and bending within half-step intervals. It fills the needs of 99% of all songs that I play. I have a rather wicked guitar with a Floyd Rose that I can use for the rest.

I've owned a American Strat before and expect this one to be consistently high quality.

I've been playing over 15 years. This guitar is in my mind, the perfect Strat. I've owned a American Strat in the mid 90's that though fine, was not as high as quality as this guitar. I love the finish also. It was a little pricey though, but I guess you get what you pay for.

2001 model crimson red lefty- 1 piece maple neck- noiseless pickups(pencil thin and shrill sounding pickups-at least in my guitar-but that is more to blame on poor tonewood selection than anything else) came with a case, strap, and a cable. Came with everything you need to play except-- a pick, and good vintage tone. Decent guitar for anyone wanting clean tone though or death metal maybe. Definitley not for fat sounds of yesteryear. Tonewood (body) is a feature that is poor on (mine not your's or all I'm sure) the guitar so that should explain the 5 ok.

the guitar does nice cleans and it is ok on a modern high gain amp but severly lacks that vintage strat vibe and won't push natural distortion on a tube amp. The place I bought it from is shady though. He sells a lot of scratch and dent stuff. I did'nt find out till later on that-- after 2 bad guitars that cost a lot from him. But I was younger then too. I play blues and classic rock but not on this guitar mine won't do the natural distortion thing although I'm sure a lot of others sound better than mine. Try before you buy if possible and if you are lefty like me then good luck finding a store with decent lefties in stock!!! I have had it for 6 years now till I traded it on a grosh last week and if there was much tone in it I would have found it a long time ago!!! Massed produced CRAP!!! All I bought was a name!!!

It plays like a dream- Much better than my gibson les paul custom. I wish it sounded as good as it looks. Although the body is 3 pieces of wood. (wide lot laminated) and grain does not match at all looks a little weird on the back less noticeable on the front.

seems tough- sounds kinda bad.I might play a clean tune on stage with it maybe but it is not a main versatile guitar by any means. Finish looks nice but it looks like many coats of polyurethane and surely clogs every pore and weakens tone even further. who cares if laquer comes off a little over time? nitro laquer is tonally supreme. Besides an old worn in strat is a thing of beauty. neat perfectionist types need to get into cars not guitars if finish durability and perfection is that big a deal to them- Me, I'm about tone and a used guitar is ok to look a little used. Trust me if your axe sounds good not too many people will care what it looks like anyway. Wore off paint must mean it got played a lot for a reason huh?

I'd give the guitar high marks if it sounded better. I wish mine had the vintage vibe the fender catalog said it did!!. The guy I bought it from is shady - and only sells crap he can get cheap for full price.(I found out after the fact) He acted like I was stupid when I kindly told him the guitar only did about a fourth of what I needed in a strat(he was dumb enough to ask how I liked it-He knew). Now I only shop music at fat sound in cary, NC they got their act together there. Give them a try you'll be pleasently surprised and treated like you should be. Stuart the owner there is a great guy!

the strat has it's sound and it's place, but not beneath my fingers. the noiseless were just that-- noiseless and boring, thin, tinny, that is speaking of the bridge. the neck pup's fine and warm. very useable. for the bridge , i'm trying a dimarzio fast track 2. seems to be working great, very thick and powerful, great for powerchords and leads. i love the guitar, but not the single coils, hence the new pup.

bought it used, action was great, for the maybe 1 person that might read this out there in guitar land. a 2 year old could set a strat up, so i always get a kick out of some reviewers needing assistance from a tech to do it. lol. PAY ATTENTION TO THIS: DON'T WASTE YOUR $$ BUYING ANY OTHER STRAT THAN A DELUXE, THE FACTORY SIMPLY DOESN'T SPEND THE TIME ON THE LITTLE THINGS AS THE DO ON THE DELUXE OR HIGHER.

46 years old, playing 33 years now, i'm no slouch and quite revered in vancouver. i've owned all sorts of gear, and this unit will remain hands down. i keep an ibanez for the 80's stuff when requested. this is a no frills, solid workhorse that'll do almost anything, dependable, reliable, great sound. no need to pay almost double for an anderson or sure. but people will, their gullable

now for the first couple months i have no compliants ...but i started playing some bb king type vibrato stuff on the e high "e" and it slips right off the neck due to the heavily rolled fret/finger board edegs...this could be a problem...prior to this i found it to be a well crafted neck.

seems solid enough...it's an expensive guitar use the strap locks!

been playing it 3 months now, and had no complaints until i started noticing the high "e" slipping off the board too easily!..i have been in love with this guitar since i got it but this new problem worries me.

This is a pretty basic stratocaster. It has some very nice,practical touches though.These include sperzel locking tuners and comes schaller straplock ready.As far as cosmetic features, it's a beauty of a guitar.I'll get into the looks later.When I bought it off ebay,it came with texas special pickups already installed!What a deal.

This guitar is a tone machine,no doubt about it.Mine is one of the ashbody deluxes, which really gives it that rich tone.It is so resonant and the sustain is great.I'm a classic rock,blues,southern rock,new top 40,punk....I mess around with a little off everything and this guitar can handle it all pretty well.It's mainstay though is the classic rock/blues/tone genres.If you're wanting to play harder stuff, I wouldn't recommend it,that's just not what it's for.It's straight up vintage fender with a lil bite from the texas specials.

When I got this guitar off ebay, the action was ABSOLUTELY horrible.This doesn't reflect fender though,this reflects the intelligence of the past owner.I swear to God the strings were half an inch high.He was a really nice guy,but just didn't know how to play and didn't play it by the looks of this one.It was absolutely flawless with a beatiful blonde see thru finish with matching tortoise shell pickguard and trem cover.I've accidentally banged this a couple times(about $h!t myself)but it didn't even leave a mark.It is also the most comfortable guitar I've ever played/owned and I've played quite a few strats.The new modern neck design is the slickest/fastest of all the ones I've played.Overall the finish is beatiful and really tough,but the action when I got it will lower this score.Hopefully you won't have that problem.

The past decade or so has really brought along some negative reviews about the fender quality,and some rightfully so.This new era though is starting off right,might even please a few old geezers(dad).I haven't gigged with it yet,seeing as I'm just now putting a band together,but it stands up to all the travelling that I do and the jam sessions.From what I've seen from this guitar,it's definately capable of gigging without a problem(I think I'd always carry a backup with any guitar).Overall I'd say this section is a solid 9

Overall, I'm very please with this guitar.It was my first experience with ebay and I'm not really a fan of not playing instruments before buying them but I'm glad I did.I got a heck of a deal(flawless guitar w/texas specials and hardshell case for 635 total dollars)If it was lost or stolen, I'd definately look for another one,but would play as many as possible to find that perfect one.This one is damn close and will do for many years,but the search goes on for the perfect strat....

Made in USA in 2005, 22 medium frets, 2 samarium cobalt noiseless single and 1 hum, the body is premium alder, the fretboard is maple with abalone inlays,LSR nut,S1 pickup switching system, color is candy tangerine, tuners are schaller locking, bridge is deluxe tremolo, included a beautiful leather fender strap with schaller strap-locks.. It' a strat! :D

I'm a pro player and you know everyone from rec studios to bands want to see some Fender writings on the headstock... I took the hum version because is very versatile! I plugget it on a Jcm 200 tsl 100, the sound is very good you need some weeks to experiment with every cominations of pickups/volume/tone.... She still sound fender too!
I like just everything on this axe!

The set up was fantastic (the strings were a bit old but this is shop issue), the pickups seemed ok to me and the best part: the finishes are great!
The colour is stunning, a kind of metallized orange that seems fiesta red if observed at different angles, the pickguard and back cover plate are made of a beautiful white pearl (it seems aged).

2005 model in candy tangerine with maple neck. I wanted the amber but could not find it in stock any where and was told I would have to wait 2 months for it. I saw the candy on line and liked it but was a little nervous when I ordered it without actually seeing it in person. I was very relieved when I saw it. It's absolutely beautiful, very unique color. The finish is exquisite and neck is one of the best I've ever put my hands around. I wanted the deluxe because of the sumarium cobalt pickups and S-1 switching. These pickups are dead silent and sound better then any single coils I've ever used. I'm now completely spoiled because of the locking tuners, I'll have a hard time using anything less from now on. The S-1 switching in combination with the SCN pickups make this one of the most versatile guitars you can buy. I honestly don't understand why anyone would want to pay 15 G's for some 40 year old beat up piece of crab when for around 1 G you can have this. These pickups sound better and are more responsive then any I've played, including the mid 60's strat that I used to own.

This guitar is suited for any type of music. I run it through a POD XT Live which I run to the effect return of Tech 21 Trademark 60. This setup sounded great with my previous strat but when I plugged this new strat in I was blown away. I couldn't believe how quiet the pickups where. The S-1 switch really makes this guitar sound like a entirely different guitar. The tones with the S-1 switch en-gauged are much thicker and rounder sounding. When disengauged you get the best strat sounds you've ever heard. The S-1 switch does not make this guitar sound like a humbucker equipped instrument, it's just provides a completely different set of tones that can certainly be used in place of a humbucker tone.

I want to emphasize the quality of the neck on this guitar. Fender has really raised the bar in this area of manufacturing. My last strat which was a 1989 American Standard that I bought new in 1990 was no where near this quality. The fret work is the best I've ever seen on a guitar and the beautiful Fender logo inlay on the headstock is magnificent and the abalone inlay really look beautiful against the maple. The finish and color on the body is absolutely beautiful as well. Mine is the candy tangerine, which, as I stated, is a very unique color and I'm very glad that I went for it. I've always owned white, black, or sunburst guitars so this is really different for me. the only thing I would have liked to see was a roller nut like they have on the HSS model or at the very least a graphite nut.

This is without a doubt the best made guitar I've ever owned. The fact that it came stock with strap locks is great. I have been switching all my guitars for the past 10 years to strap locks so this was a great added feature. I'm so pleased with this guitar that I think I'll buy the HSS model next.

Let's face it, the Fender Stratocaster is the most versatile and legendary guitar in the history of music. Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, SRV, Mark Knopfler, Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson, David Gilmore, just to name a few. All these guys have one thing in common, well besides being some of the greatest guitarist of all time that is. Of course, they all created those great tones with a Fender Stratocaster. If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me. And this is one of the best you can own. Forget the "vintage" crap....their not worth the money. This strat plays better, looks better, and sounds better for a hell of a lot less.

I bought this strat new last year so it had the 50th Anniversary plate on it. It has all the same features as the actual anniversary model except it has chrome hardware and a rosewood fretboard instead of gold hardware and a maple neck. It has the noiseless pickups (which are actually quiet) and the S1 switching. Although I bought mine shop damaged, the wood is beautiful and has the nice three coulour sunburst finish. It came with truss rod adjustment tool, cable, cleaning cloth and spray and a moulded case. It also has locking machine heads which work really well and locking strap buttons. The manual however was pretty crappy and cheap - just a piece of folded, photocopied paper(no marks here).Don't expect a nice coloured manual that you can be proud of.

This is my first strat and the sound through a valve amp runs from warm to bright and clean, depending on which pickup you use. The S1 switching really makes a difference and kind of emulates a humbucker in sound. With 3 pickups, a 5 way switch and the S1 switch there are plenty of sounds to choose from for all styles of music.
The neck pickup through a Mesa Boogie or 4 x 10 Fender is heaven.

As it was shop damaged it is hard to comment on the setup as the neck was pushed out of alignment when I got it. Apart from the marks where it had been dropped the overall finish of the body, neck and metal parts is excellent. The only problem I have is sticking of the strings in the nut. My luthier put some lead on it but this didn't fix it. I may have to consider getting a new nut made.

This guitar will last forever as far as I can tell. Everything is good quality and well finished. It is very solid.

No experience yet. Everything works perfectly except for the nut. Once again I must mention for the price I would have expected a proper hand book, particularly to explain the slightly complicated switching possibilities. After all this is a 3 thousand dollar guitar.

I have been playing almost 2 years and own two other electrics, a Squire Tele and a Cort PRS copy (to get humbuckers in my collection) and three acoustics - a Taylor 410, a Fender parlour guitar and a Tanglewood travel guitar. If my strat was stolen I would definitely buy another one the same although I would consider a maple neck for looks (I think the rosewood neck plays a bit better). I love the comfort and clean sounds; there is really nothing I dislike. I wish it had a nice tweed case then it would be perfect.

2004, Made in USA (duh...), 21 frets, your average strat config, 3 "Smaritan Cobalt Noiseless" pickup (whatever that means), 2 peice alder body, amber, beautiful grain. Standard maple/rosewood neck, abalone dots, silver-metallic fender logo (not the vintage spegetti logo). Comes with case, straplock, strap, cable, whatever. Almost makes that MIM sound like a bad deal considering the kind of hardware used here...

I played strats alot, its like I have gotten used to strats or something. I cant say much for the sound other than that its not so noisy like the cheap MIM/MIJ strats. I figured that I am probably going to replace the pickup of a MIM with Lace Sensors or something but then again I might as well buy a guitar that comes with those things, not to mention better hardware and the W00Tness of having a Made in USA strat. I like the S1 and delta whatever, the pot doesnt sound scratchy like many of the Mexican or Japanese strats, press the S1 buttom and the sound change, mess with the 5 way switch and the sound change, mess with the tone knob and the sound change. Its almost like a variax only that it has a much better W00Tness.

I wish Fender would package their strings like D'Darrio strings, because the new pack of Fender strings I opened was rusty in the bag! I realize things rust faster in Taiwan because of the constant high humidity so it is very important to package strings in a sealed bag so that it doesnt rust in its package! Other than that the guitar is set up like any other, medium jumbo frets (a feature I dont find on most strats), abalone dot which looks great, however would go better with maple fretboard because its kinda dark. The body's wood grain is so beautiful! I was thinking of Ash but then Alder guitar is cheaper, and it looks almost 3D when playing under intense light. I realize I'd probably get better wood/finish using Warmoth body but you dont get 4 bolt microtilt, contoured heel (which is a PLUS for those who wish to play higher frets), well actually you do, but you have to be careful which screw you use or else you will ruin your neck. Plus the cost of putting together a warmoth guitar that matches American Deluxe would cost as much as a Custom shop, and its resale value will really suck. The neckpocket fit doesnt seem all that good, but I can't see the difference, and I had a MIJ strat whose neck pocket fit was so tight that the neck finish was damaged just for removing the neck! Theres no neck alignment issue, everything is where they should be. The factory setup was satisifactory, however it would be nice if I could lower the action or something...

I know strats are built like cannonballs. The finish is probably polyurethane or something, and unless you are deliberately trying to damage the finish, it should be okay. I know SRV used his guitar as surfboards, and did all kind of mean things to his axe, and it still lives (and looks like a relic too). I mean, its an American deluxe strat! Just about everyone would gig with this thing. The strap lock is a big plus, that mean I would carry it by the strap like a rifle and not worry about it falling off...

Who knows? never had to call them, I wish Micro$oft were like that...

I played for a few years, my skill aint that good because I have been busy and had a time where I hadnt touched a guitar for almost a year. I was going to buy a cheaper highway 1 but the finish looks a bit cheap and its so easy to damage them. I am not looking for a relic anyways. Plus I do not like the wood grain on the highway, it just looks like trash or something. If it were stolen I would be really pissed because that thing is expensive as hell. I had MIM, MIJ, MII (Indonesia), whatever. You can't compare this with anything like MIM or MIJ, even the so called "American" pickups on MIJ or MIM is not American. Plus the MIM/MIJ has a nasty habit of using die-cast zinc trem block which hurts sustain. I wish I had a sunburst finish on this thing, but they were out of sunburst, plus they were charging more for sunburst anyways. Like I said, the wood grain is beautiful, even American Standard doesnt have this kind of woodgrain, in fact the standard grain looks so plain I thought it was basswood unless I knew that guitar is a MIA. Plus its only 100US dollars more than the standard, so its a go.

Mine is a 2005 model in 3 tone sunburst with a maple board, and an alder body. It has the 3 SCN pickups.

In a day and age where it seems we pay more for less; this axe has been a pleasant surprise. The pickups are extremely quite, and it kicks out all the great Fender tones that they are known for.

The constuction of this guitar is what most surprised me. I'd heard a few horror stories about modern dat Fenders Q/C, so I was on the lookout for such. This thing is really nice.

I've been playing for 43 years, and have been primarily a Gibson man. I bought a new Strat in the earlt 70's and someone clipped it from me. I had an early 60's Tele that I let slip away out of ignorance, and the fact that I was starting a family. I own 2 Les Pauls, and a Martin HD-28, all of which are great guitars, but I wanted another Fender Strat to add to the mix. I bought it with rather low expectations site unseen, and it equals the quality of my other axes. Like I said; I bought it unseen, so I didn't go on a search and play numerous AM Deluxes till I found a good one, so I can't speak as to the consistant quality of the guitars; but if this is any indication, and you are looking for a nice Strat; this is it. I am the kind of person where I don't talk up a product just to justify my purchase of it; when I've bought a dog, I hang my head and admit it, but this one has exceeded my expectations.

I play much styles... From Clean new wave pieces to metal. It fit's my style very fine , it has very beautifull clean , a very good crunch and it can manage with high gain to. With the push/pull you can select between a creamy full sound or the tipical sharp single coil sound. I like the " pushed " modus for fat clean and heavy leads the " pull" position is good voor a sharp cutting crunch. I use an Fender stage 1600 and it's quite enough , not noisy. A bit of a hum in high gain mode tought ...

With this guitar you can play allmost all styles. It'll always have a typical sound that only this guitar has. Very beautyfull imho.

I bought it seconds hand , so I dont know how it came out of the factory. Now it plays just fine. Fast and easy.

The wood is very beatyfull , no flaws how so ever...

More than enough features!

This is one great instrument! Perfectly suited to blues, rock, pop, jazz and everything in between ... the new S-1 switching makes this guitar more suitable jazz than any previous strat ever made; you get some very full, lush sounds with the switching activated ... someone somewhere mentioned that the new switch can create very cool Albert Collins-ish tones, and that is certainly true. Switch off, you get gorgeous clear Strat tone ... the first time I played 'Lenny' using neck/middle pickups on this thing I nearly ejaculated ... beautiful tone ... and that's only with a Marshall AVT100; imagine it when I get a proper valve amp! The pickups are dead quiet, even on high overdrive ... the new Bill Lawrence design is far superior to the older noiseless pickups by Fender ... incidently, this guitar handles distortion very well, much better than most single-coils ...

I didn't see the guitar out of the factory, so I couldn't comment on that ... Paul at Soundworks set it all up for free (anyone in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, I strongly suggest visiting Soundworks for guitar gear, especially Fender products) ... played and felt magnificent out of the case, the neck is the smoothest I have ever layed hands on, (that includes American series and some Artist strats, too) frets etc. all perfect ... sunburst finish is gorgeous, and will only get better with age ... no bookmark even remotely evident in the grain ... the only inconvenience with this guitar (and it is a very mild inconvience) is getting the plastic film off the scratchplate; but if you undo a few screws it all comes off just fine, except for a tiny little bit hidden underneath the knobs ... the pop-in tremolo arm is a very nice little bonus, along with the locking tuners and abalone inlays ...

Overall - super action, excellent fit, and beatiful finish.

This guitar is built very well ... Fenders are notoriously difficult to break (it took Jimi 10 minutes before he inflicted any serious damage upon his Strat at Monterey; Rory Gallagher only used one electric guitar throughout his whole career, a 1963 Strat; SRV's famous axe took a fair bit of abuse too; so yeah, quite solid these guitars) ... I've been reliably informed that Fender quality control etc. has picked up drastically over the past 2 or 3 years ... oh, I forgot to mention that this guitar has straplocks, which work very well ...

I have a lifetime warranty at Soundworks, where they will do all adjustments and stuff for free ... but I've only had this thing a few weeks, so ...

I've been playing nearly 7 years, and have always adored the Strat sound and legacy ... just look at the guys who have used the Strat over the years - Hendrix, Clapton, Knopfler, Gilmore, Gallagher, Stevie Ray & Jimmiy Vaughan, Robin Trower, Eric Johnson, Ritchie Blackmore, Joe Walsh ... the list goes on and on and on and on ... this things feels, looks and sounds awesome in every way ... I can not wait to get me a proper tube/valve amp and try this baby out with a Tubescreamer or summat ... *drools* ... I will keep this thing for the rest of my life, barring some unfortunate incident ... if it were stolen, I'd track the thief and congratulate him on his choice, before requesting that he return it ... all in all, this is the best axe that is made by Fender, (except for the Custom Shops perhaps, hehehe ...)

Everything you could want, including quality that you can literally feel from across the room.

This is the best Stratocaster you can buy, and it sounds like it. The pickups/S1/wiring is far superior to anything Fender has come up with in the past. Using the S1 gives the guitar a deeper, fuller sound than your traditional strat. The pickups are noiseless, which makes for a clean, clear sound. The body and neck are extremely solid and much heavier sounding than, say, a Mexican. The guitar screams "solid."

Everything on this guitar is perfect. The nut, the neck, every fret, every tuner, every saddle, the thick finish ... perfect. I've had 4 Mexicans and one Standard American before this and I must say, this is a totally different guitar. I had no idea. It makes most other Fenders look and feel like toys.

Only had it for 6 months, but I can't possibly see anything going wrong with this guitar. It feels and looks bullet proof.

If I could only have one guitar for the rest of my life (let's hope that's not the case), this would be the one. The tone is more versatile than any strat before it due to the advanced wiring and S1 switching. The hardware is the best that any strat has to offer, the body is (not too) heavy, the neck is perfect and the details have been attended to very carefully. When you stop and truly take inventory of this guitar, it's a steal at a thousand bucks. It will last a lifetime and be the best guitar you'll ever own.

sounds great through everything i try, awesome for blues. i use a peavey classic 30 with it and it just screams for leads, S1 switch down doesn't do much for me, I prefere the clasic sounds. There is some noise on the brige pickup but its tame. chords sound incredible even at high gain, probably due to perfect intonation and good resonance through the whole guitar, plugged or unplugged. exellent sustain.

finish is perfect or as close to as possible at this price. Action is a little high, but no buzing. I attempted to lower the bridge a tad and it buzed imediatly, they had it as low as it would go, I only had to re-adjust the trem after changing the strings to 10's. action could be lower if the neck was straiter, there is a slight bow to it wich is normal, but it may need a slight re-adjustment, i prefer flater lower action, like on a parker guitar. all is good though.

2004. Special neck plate says 50th anniversery. 22 frets. Med-jumbo? Nice sunburst. Maple neck light finish. So so locking tuners sperzels would be better. Alder body. Push in tremelo with a adjustible tension. Passive pickups samarian cobolt alien life form pickups. Actually a beautiful finish on the body.

I play the blues and the blues rock with some funk. Thirsty Blues Band. Oky doky now the straight poop. You get the regular strat sound and the higher gain strat sounds with the push down center volume knob. It is good for switching from a typical strat to a more grindy gainy strat. People compare it to a humbucker but its not quite. It is a very quiet pickup much better than the vintage noiseless fender puts out. I love to push the gain up on my amp but I find that with lower gain settings it has a more musical tone with more articulate highs and thumpy lows. I used to have a 65 strat that kind of sucked. I purchased it in 67 for 125 dollars. Naturally I sold it. Everything fender built in the 60's wasn't perfect it was just ok. I play out of generally a 50's gibson br-6 and a matchless spitfire klone made by eddiej. His amps are almost perfect. I change the tubes with cheap sovtek el84s and 12ax7wb and 12ax7wa's. It was optimized for these tubes. I mullards, amperex, and others but the cheap sovteks are perfect. It sounds like a vox with a 1/2 power switch. The guitar or any guitar and this amp makes this guitar sing any way you want. I know I've been playing since 1964. I got other amps but I probably will get rid of most of them soon.

factory setup was ok. I changed to 10's. These new dr black strings look cool and feel pretty good. I was doing some extreme vibratoing and broke the e and b pretty quick. Some one else noted this also. I have been using this for about 8 months. Finish is holding up nice. Although you can't stop scratches on the finish when you beat on the guitar hard.

Look its a great strat. It will last forever even if you beat on it. The one day I only brought this to a gig I broke 2 strings. so...I find it enjoyable to have people watch me change strings. They love the enertainment value.

My favorite feature is it's just a guitar like all guitars. Some sound good some don't. Most sound ok.I have a cheap danelectro that sounds good too.

I own a black 1998 american deluxe fat stratocaster. I bought it used. I personally like it better than the new ones. I dont need the S-1 switching plus i cant afford to buy another american deluxe even though i absolutely love them. Saying that i have made a bunch of mods which have made me very happy. The lock trem sucked. It had burrs that caused quick string breaking and it took a long time to change a string about 10 to 15 min per string with two people working on it. It did stay in tune. I bought a wilkinson hipshot replacement trem that has worked out better. It doesnt stay in tune as well but i dont pull out the whammy bar that much. I also hated the DH-1 humbucker in the bridge. It was weak sounding. It lacked punch and definition. I bought an original Seymour Duncan Parallel Axis Trembucker which is one of the best pickups ever made. It does everything. Another reason i like my american deluxe better is i prefer the sound of the vintage noiseless they used in 1998 to the new SCN pickups. I put on a push pull i use a little and i had to replace the switch to do that i also put on a tortoise pickguard insteade of the white one. I really like the sperzel tuners and the roller nut they both really help keep everything in tune.

I play rock and blues. The neck and middle pickups are good for blues while the bridge humbucker tackles anything else. I play a little surf and metal and with the simple flick of the switch and minor effects switching (distortion of vibratone on) i can easily get both sounds out of one guitar which is really nice. I really like new rock so im learning Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana and Kryptonite by 3 Doors Down and it gets a sound very close to both those songs. The vintage noiseless pickups stay quiet enough for me i have no complaints about hum. My setup constists of a Fender Dyna Touch III Stage 1600 and about 8 boss pedals delay, phase, flange, chorus, 2 distortions, overdrive, compresion sustainer and a dunlop crybaby wah

I had the guitar professionaly set up. It got the once over which i recomend you have done or do yourself it really helps espicially if you buy used guitars. Thed guitar was 5 years old when i bought it had minor dents and dings but one very large one on the top corner of the headstock. Burrs in the original bridge saddle. I bought it used so no comment.

I have played this guitar live once and it worked perfectly no problems. The everything appears it will last it has worked great the two years i have owned it and im sure it worked the five years before i owned it. I put strap locks on as an extra precaution but the strap never fell off but with a guitar this expensive i think its not smart to take chances of the strap falling off and cause serious damage. I didnt have a backup guitar when i used it live.

Dont know about this used guitars dont have warranties. Never used the customer support because i havent had any problems.

I think this is a great guitar. I would like to get another american deluxe but i cant afford to buy one. I would find the cash if this one were stolen though. If youve got the money try and find a 1998 american deluxe fat stratocaster on ebay or at guitar center you wont be disapointed.

The important differences between this model and a "typical" Strat is the S-1 switching and the locking tuners. I'm giving a less-than-perfect score because I wish this model was available as a hard tail.

With the S-1 switch, you get ten different sounds. Having ten sounds is no big deal?but this guitar has ten useful, musical sounds. With the S-1 switch up, it's normal 5-way Strat switching, but it really isn't a classic Strat sound. If you're after the classic Strat sound, there are better (and less expensive) choices. The SCN pickups have a slightly darker and (to my ears) more refined sound. The pickups sound similar to G&L's Magnetic Field pickups. I love the fact that the pickups are so quiet. With the S-1 switch down, you get sounds not available on most Strats. The difference between combining pickup in series vs. parallel can be significant. With the S-1 switch down, the sound is meatier. It's not exactly a full humbucking sound (I don't like it when Strats try to sound like Les Pauls or visa versa) but it does some tasteful things in that vast sonic territory between single coils and humbuckers.

It is put together nicely. The quality of construction on Fender guitars is dramatically better now than it was a few years ago. I have owned a couple of G&Ls in my life, and I used to tell people that G&L was a higher quality version of Fender; now I feel that situation is reversed. G&L's quality has gone down and Fender's has improved.

I haven't owned it that long, but I would be shocked if reliability is ever an issue.

I don't know. I have owned Fender guitars, amps and a bass over the years. I only contacted the company once?and that was over 30 years ago.

My first "good" guitar was a 1966 Strat (I bought it used in 1971). That was my main guitar for more than 20 years. In my opinion, this new American Deluxe Strat is hands down a better guitar than the 1966 version. Sound is, of course, subjective but I certainly like the sounds of this guitar better than the vintage one (and I love the lack of hum and buzzes). The workmanship is similar, and the hardware on this guitar (particularly the bridge assembly and tuners) is far superior to the original.

I have been playing for about 35 years. In addition to the Strat I have a couple of PRS guitars (a 1992 Custom and a 2002 Hollowbody II), a Martin OM-21 and a Larravee OM-5M. I play all of the electrics through a Bad Cat Cub amplifier.

Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups, 3 of course. Vibrato, though I never use it. Locking tuning keys which sure do make changing strings so much easier.
The S1 switch which makes worlds of difference. More on that later.
A fit and finish on the neck and frets that is nothing short of incredible.
Also, the tones are now one for the neck pickup and one for the neck and middle, which gives a wonderful range of tones.

I was not much of a strat fan, though I had a few in the 60's and 70's, not even bothering to get another until the late 90's and even then not using it if I had another choice.
This one is different. This guitar can do any sound I want with class and in it's own domain. I am not a death metal player so I can not testify to that.
The single coils, used as normal Strat pickups, are capable of everything from "spank" to "woman tone". The way the tone controls are wired makes them very usable in comparision to previous strats. This guitar can sing with acoustics or it can easily cut through any mix.
She sings. I guess that is the best way of saying it. The S1 switch adds a lot of depth and width to the tones of the guitar, depending on your amp type and settings. But even then it is still a sweet sound.
My own tone is a nice full one, but still with the raspy whispers and sparkles that begin the single coil sounds. This guitar has them both.
Does it sound like a humbucker with the S1 on? Not really. It is as full as many humbuckers but still has the transparency and the raspiness of singles. Far more like a P90 that can be softer or as strong as you could wish for.
Does it sound like a Strat? Yep. It sounds like the strats I had back in the early days. Guts and yet finesse. A whisper with a wail.
I play country, folk, rock, and some jazz even into fantasy and neo classical. This one guitar can lend a natively pure tone to anything I do.

The action and frets on this guitar are of a quality and capacity I have never seen on a guitar of any make. Even the Paul Reed Smith does not exceed what was done on this guitar. PRS is incredible, no doubt. I guess I am saying this is the same.
The finish is flawless as is the build. Every joint is perfect, and the way they rout it to fit your body makes this a guitar that feels more like you are part of it.
Many think Fenders are not really all that well built. Well, in this case you get what you pay for.

I can not see anything breaking this guitar. After all it is a Strat even if it is truly a work of art as far as build and engineering. The hardware is top of the line.
The finish is so pretty though I do wish I could make it look a little older.
I would carry this guitar anywhere. And yes, I would use it on the big dude going after the lead singer and I bet it wouldn't even detune.

This is, I do believe, the finest guitar I have ever owned. The neck and fretwork make it a true joy to play. I don't even need a compressor.
Having played since 1964 and having been in lots of bands I have owned so many. Each time a new fad came along I would change my guitar to meet it. No more. This guitar can do anything I could wish to do in music. Never said that before.
It feels like my old 60's 335's or my 62 tele. It feels like the SG that had the finish totally worn off or my Melody Maker that had actually had the wood worn into by the years of playing.
It feels like a 50 year old guitar that was played, loved, and well cared for. It sounds just that good also.
If anything happened to it I would surely buy another just like it right away. There is no doubt about that.
Being redundant, this is the best and most versatile guitar I have ever owned.

The only thing really new-ish regarding the features on the this otherwise standard layout Strat is the inclusion of the S-1 switching and the Samarium Cobalt noise-cancelling pickups. The American deluxe Strat also comes with the locking tuners--always a plus for Strats with "tremolo". The S-1 really expands the possibilities of pickup configurations with both series and parallel switching. The guitar came with standard shaped molded Fender case and accessories like the leather/nylon strap, polishing kit, etc. This guitar is the rosewood fingerboard model with the American Deluxe feature of mother-of-pearl position markers. I give this category a "9" rating because the pickups are WONDERFUL sounding and the S-1 switching is, in my, opinion a versatile feature.

I've always tended towards the single-coil sound and this guitar has it and a whole lot more. The S-1 allows for more bottom end akin to humbuckers and as a result pushes the Strat through the mix in a band situation. As much as I've always dug the Fender single coil clarity and brightness, it can get lost in the mix when up against bass, drums, and other guitars. I play through either a Vox AD50VT modeling amp or a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, with just a bit of overdrive and echo/delay, otherwise nothing else is need for my type playing style and musical interests. I play a variety of pop, surf, rockabilly, using a combo of pick and fingerpicking techniques. For me, this latest incarnation of the Strat, and the 8th I've owned since 1979, is the tops!

The guitar was really pretty well set-up. The action was just a little high and I switched the guitar strings to D'Addario 10-46's as soon as I came home from the music store with it. There are a lot of factors involved in set-ups and the Strat is probably more complex than most so a little tweaking is always necessary between the factory to the end-user! Fit and finish were 99.9% perfect. the .1% I attribute to a slight bump/mold mark on the volume knob that slightly abraided the pickguard when rotated. For that I received a 10% discount from my retailer and fixed in few seconds with a utility knife. Really, the guitar was made very well and the fretwork was fantastic. This is not always the case with Fender quality control. My last Strat, a 2004 American Series was a little rough in places around the fret ends.

Go ahead and try to break one of these. Sure, you can dent it, scratch, light it on fire, etc. but I only travel with Fenders. Gibson's are like delicate flowers, Fenders are reinforced concrete! The only reason I bring a backup to gigs is for string breakage, which is not something I've dealt with for several years.

No personal experiences regarding this.

I been playing since 1977, gigging regularly since 1984, and have owned about 15 Fenders, and probably the same amount of Gibsons, and several other guitars. I have owned a Japanese-made Squier Telecaster since 1984, and that's been the mother of all of 'em. After buying and selling over 50 guitars in my life so far, I'm trying to settle on just a couple to live with the rest of my life. I think I've found a good companion in this American Deluxe. If it were lost or stolen, I would immediately replace it with another. The price is a little on the high side but the fit, finish, and features make it the guitar of choice over the standard American Strats.

After reviewing the posting board on this guitar... I trolled Ebay for quite a while to exact model: solid alder with rosewood neck, locking tuners, trem and non switching system. I specifically wanted the tangerine color as I think this is a spectacular color for a strat.

I have - literally - owned hundreds of guitars and due to serious GAS issues. I am a very harsh critic of guitars and want them to be super players with superior acoustic properties. After loving them, I send them on their way. As I mature (ahem) I have changed my point of view on this and begun holding on to the real keepers... I wish I could get some of my best ones back but they have become ultra collectible. That said, this one is staying with me till the end. However, no guitar ever gets a 10 (except for one 89 PRS and one '68 Les Paul... that were beyond magical) that are in my past... sad but true.

As many of you know, Fender products are real hit and miss. You need to play 25 strats to find a real good one. This one just kills.

I play rock, blues and Jazz. Been playing for 20 years. I run my guitars through tube amps, though for this guitar I primarily use a blonde tolex USA Fender blues jr. that is a total killer (these are going to become super collectible... one day)

Though, I am able to dial these sounds in easily. The noiseless picks-ups are quite an improvement over the lace sensors. The bite and articulation as you attack the strings is much more harmonic and reveals your playing abilities - both good and bad - more than most guitars. I stay in the neck and 2 & 4 for most of the stuff but the biting no load quality is there too. I can't get the classic Clapton "woman tone" like I can with another of my USA strats with the tone rolled all the way off so it gets a 9 instead of a 10.

Fender guitars always need to be set up. Find a good guitar shop or luthier and have them dial you in. A great set up with good intonation will help you in your playing more than 6 months of lessons. Of course its cheaper to learn to do this yourself, but it is an affordable luxury that keeps good people employed...

The finish is perfect, the frets are beautifully finished, and overall build quality is superb. However, the nut is slightly long on the bass side of the neck though 99.9% of players would say I am being too critical and it fits the guitar fine. I am just being candid.

Because of these comments I will not rate.

Good question on the durablity issue. It seems very well built. Time will tell. The drop in trem bar stays in place easily and I wonder if this will be the case some ten plus years from now. The thing stays in tune no matter how hard I use the trem bar. I am not a locking nut fan so I am used to my strats going right out of tune with anything more than a small amount of trem shake. Guitars age and this part of their charm... don't be afraid to play them or to buy them with scratches... this always makes me laugh about people and their PRS'... I mean... if you want a guitar you don't really dig into and play... then what's the point? Still, this will save you tons of dough in buying used off Ebay on the best guitars...

It is gig worthy, but you always take a back up instrument and amp if its a pro gig. If not, befriend the other band's guitar player and beg for mercy!

Become educated about your gear, get it set up properly, and especially don't believe the hype about guitars in general... especially here on Harmony Central. It is the rare guitar that rates a 9.5 and most guitars never do... hence the check 25 of a mass produced item like this strat and you might find the gem that rates this high. Always play an electric without plugging in first as acoustic properties of any guitar are essential foundations of good tone. Learn to enjoy thin, medium, and thick necks as they all influence tone. Keep an open mind. Everything else can be dialed in.

2004/5 w/50th neck plate. Guitar is already well described in the other reviews here. Mine is the candy tangerine with rosewood, which dazzle and sparkele made me pull it off the shelf to check it out one day even while not in the market for yet another guitar. I was so astounded with the tone and quality I bought it on the spot.

Locking tuners, strap locks, included form fitting case, strap, cord, lifetime warranty. Basicially everything but a stand and amp!

This guitar re-invents the Stratocaster. The SCN pickups ELIMINATE the NASTY HUM while still delivering the absoulte classic sound of the Stratocaster we all know and love. In the past 30 years I have probably seriously played 30 strats and owned several of my own. This by far is the best with respect to tone. It is extremely balanced and full not too bright or dark and never harsh. While the SCN pickups are not quite as capable of that top edge of crystal sizzle super-treble sound that some of the vintage pickups can put out, they more than make up for it with their noise canceling and superior balance. This is a fabulous guitar for recording, the best Strat ever in my opinion.

I can do without the S1 settings - I have other guitars with humbuckers that do a better job in that direction.

.009 strings are weak and very inadequate in my opinion - Of course I imagine they sell a lot of these to guys who don't play daily - and its easily fixed.

This guitar sounds absolutely beautiful played directly into my tube amps with no effects whatsoever. Including Matchless Chieftain and a re-tubed Blues Deluxe. Can't wait to try it on the 18watt I have on order.

Flawless action fit and finish out of the box (on the 9s - annoying that it doesn't come set up for 10s). Extremely impressive for the price. Fender is blowing Gibson away these days in this department. I don't know how they can even sell this level of quality at this price.

I have not had it long enough for it to break. I would expect it to be as bulletproof as any American Strat which means only replacing some pots and switches and jacks in several years of hard use. Its certainly no wimpy lightweight guitar.

Lifetime warranty. I doubt I'll need it but I like the fact that Fender has that much confidence in the product.

I have been playing 35+ years. I have several guitars including some exotic $$$ customs. I had given up for the most part on crappy production guitars, but Fender has changed my mind with this guitar. I don't see anything near this level of quality in this price range from any other manufacturer at the moment.

Although this is not the ultimate guitar, it might be the ultimate Strat, which to me is an essential tool. If I could only keep one guitar, this would probably be the one, because of its incredible versatility, reliable performance and tone, and classic good looks.

This is a Stratocaster - a 22 fret, bolt on neck guitar. It is what it is, but as an essential tool, this might be the best ever with the new pickups. This guitar is a bit heavy for a long night. The ash body would have been nice - but they don't make it in this cool color.

I prefer my Jet (exotic handmade) in absolute terms but it can't quite nail the Strat tone (sometimes you want that), and this is more of a working man's guitar than the Jet which is almost a museum piece or work of art (kind of a Ferrari you don't drive every day).

So in short, this Strat is the ultimate daily driver. I love it.

Would I buy another - YES!! And that's part of the beauty, as a mass produced guitar I can get one quickly if needed so I don't have to be paranoid about it either.

2004 deluxe montego black rosewood fingerboard, scn pickups. Stupid fender standard tremolo(which should be an option because the hardtail has 10 times the sustain, save that for another day).Bought this guitar new had it for three weeks noticed that there was severe shrinkage in the body causing cracks in the finish.

Sounds really nice like the s-1 lot of guys dont like it it beefs up the sound pretty good.Disappointed I have to bring it back because of the shrinkage probably get another

Poor setup as all fenders are out of the box .Always I have owned 6 different american strats (3 teles , 3 Strats) everyone was virtually unplayable out of the box, nothing a bit of tweaking cant fix.But to the poor guy who cant do his own work it can be costly. Also you pretty much have to strip the guitar apart to get the stupid plastic off the g-d pickguard. for this I will rate it a 5

As I have mentioned the body has shrunk substantially. I think fender is having a real hard time getting quality wood for their instruments.The shrinkage on this guitar is so bad that I have a hard time keeping it in tune. Shrinkage starts in the neck pocket and travels the whole length of the guitar and its gettin worse.

Been playing 12 years owned 6 different american fenders ,acharvel 650 xl custom(AWESOME GUITAR!!!) and a gibson les paul custom.This guitar sounds good but the finish and quality control is poor .Nowadays if you want a real quality fender go buy a G&L its the only real fender . Leo would roll over if he say what was being sold under his name

2004 Model. Made in USA. Two-color (vintage yellow with black burst edge), solid alder body, maple V neck and fretboard (we'll get to that later), mint-green pickguard, S-1 pickup switching (S-S-S) and two-point tremolo. Basically, a nice but run-of-the-mill Strat that you can pick up at any Guitar Center. I purchased mine off of eBay for $900 bucks. Not a great deal, but it was practically new and it included a set of Texas Specials installed along with the original noiseless pickups on the side. I rate it a 7 because for the price (retail would have cost even more) the fit and finish of the neck could have been a lot better. The frets were polished, but definitely could have used a light milling to be smoother. Not a great deal when you consider that you can pick up a new Carvin whose quality spanks it (sorry, Fender fans, it's often too true) for less money and with more options.

I like to play blues, 70's rock, SRV and Hendrix type stuff, so a Strat is the way to go. I play through a 1999 model 100W Fender Twin Amp ("Evil Twin") beast that provides beautiful Fender clean tones and reverb with a passable Marshall crunch through the dirty channel. As I got it with the Texas Specials, it sounded great, producing all the typical tones you'd expect from a Strat, including the occasional hum when I turned to face the wrong direction. That's life with a Strat, so I don't face that direction and I make sure all major appliances and sources of electrical noise are off when I'm practicing at home. Someday I'll swap out the Specials for the original noiseless pickups to compare, but for now, I really dig the tone of the Texas Specials, noise and all.

For the price (I see these things retail for $999 at GC), I would expect a much better set up. No, this isn't a PRS, but a decent set up isn't rocket science either. The frets should have been smoother. I have to give credit, however, to the wood and the finish used on the body. The alder is nicely and evenly figured, almost like ash, and the color is beautiful. The quality of the finish is excellent.

Now for the modifications...I installed a Hipshot Tremsetter on it because it wouldn't stay in tune. I play with GHS Boomers in 11-50, and I use the tremelo a lot, but I don't dive bomb it or get wacky with it. I like to use it for subtle stuff like SRV's "Lenny" or the occasional surf tune. Without the tremsetter, the guitar was frustrating at best. After installing the tremsetter it stayed in tune MUCH better and had a greatly improved (though firmer) feel in the tremelo arm. I'm still tweaking it to get the best action and feel out of it, but so far it's been worth every penny and is highly recommended. For 35 bucks it's worth a try.

Now about the neck...I chose the V neck because it had a beefy feel. I guess it wasn't beefy enough, so I replaced it with an older 90's Jeff Beck baseball-bat neck that I also got off of eBay. I had a professional do it so that all would be done properly. When I got the guitar back, I couldn't believe the difference. Holy crap, the thing sounded TONS better (clearer, more sparkling, more definition) and sustained MUCH better. I chose the neck mainly because of ergonomic reasons, but now have also learned that what people say about bigger necks improving the sound is true, at least in this case. One more thing about the Jeff Beck Strats: Judging from what people say on the internet about the size of them, you'd think that maple forests thoughout the world are endangered in order to produce them. Yes, the neck is definitely big, but it's not much fatter than a '59 Les Paul neck. If you like big necks, give it a try if you can find one. It's well worth it for the improvement in the sound alone. After all the money, time and effort invested in setting up the guitar to my liking, I give the action, fit & finish a 10. Keep in mind that this is a Strat, which from its inception was designed to be mass produced inexpensively. It will always have its flaws, but it gives you a lot to work with. Put in the proper effort and you'll be rewarded. I just wish that Fender put more effort into the overall set up of their instrumemts. After all, this one is the American Deluxe model. No, it's not a custom-shop model, but it is something they're still making healthy margins on. A little of that profit should be invested in better fretwork and finish.

I don't have much to say here that hasn't already been said by everyone else on Harmoney Central. The Strat is very reliable and should last for decades. I could probably get by just fine playing live without a backup, but I would never take that chance. It ain't worth it. Another beauty of the Strat is that there are exactly a zillion different replacement parts available for it (last time I counted). If any part of it breaks or wears out, just buy a new one. You can't do that with your PRS.

Never dealt with customer support. Never had to.

I've been playing for 24 years and have owned a couple dozen guitars in my life. The Strat is a "must have" item if you're into the type of music I like to play. If it were lost, I'd replace it with another Strat, probably a 90's Jeff Beck model because of the great neck.

2004 year model, USA AM. Dlx, 22 frets, Alder body, Maple board, translucent ampber color. I thought it was ash, but it is indeed alder. S/S/S Samarium cobalt pickup arangements, 2 tones, one volume knob with s-1 switching. Fender 2 point fulcrum tremelo, with pop in bar. The tuners are locking variety. Came with case, polish cloth, bottle of polish, various tools. The neck has softened, rolled neck edges. The finish was perfect.

I play lots of blues, funk and jazzy stuff. I have even used the guitar into a high gain amp and it sounded ok to me. I use it with a Marshall DSL 100, and a crybaby. It is a bright bubbly sounding guitar with no discernable noise from the pickups. When they say noisless, they mean it. The s-1 can pop when engaged, this is probably due to a capacitor in it. I cannot find any flaws with the sound of this guitar.

The guitar came with a pretty good setup from the factory with .009's. I use .10's so i left it at the dealer after i bought it. This guitar came with the neck slightly off and was covered/corrected under warranty. This guitar responds well to changing pickup heights, and they do not exhibit a powerfull pull on the strings, and do not affect sustain. I will add that I had the trem screwed down tight to the body and use it like a hardtail. I did use the trem for a little while before I changed it, and it stayed in perfect tune. I wanted this guitar in a hardtail and Fender doesn't make it that way. The string height and intonation of this guitar was perfect. I have never had a guitar that played in tune and intonated as well as this guitar. With the .009's the action was low, and my heavy handed playing made the strings buzz, so when it was set up, I specified a medium high action. I really do love this guitar wholeheartedly but........I'm taking 2 points off for the neck issue. $1100 is way too much to pay for a guitar that needs the neck recentered.

I have been gigging this guitar for 2 months now. The hardware hasn't rusted and no chrome has peeled of the bridge. The fish is pretty robust, but I've managed to dent and ding it here and there. My guitars all end up looking pretty rough after about a year or two worth of use, so I'm not worried. I'm not into relicing, but I'm not babying this guitar either. A guitar is just a tool to me, ands tools get dented and scratched. The strap locks supplied with the guitar keep comming loose. This is a negative with me. I'm going to toss them and use standard oversize strap buttons. Subrct 2 for straplock issues. This has been a constant problem with these guitars and Fender does nothing about it.

Fender warranty has been perfect. The guys I purchased my strat from are Professional, Helpfull, Courteous, and knowledgeable. I will likely purchase another strat from them. This department tops the list in my book.

Overall, I would give it a 9 because nothing is perfect. I never use the S-1, love the sound, and it is pretty darned durable to boot!

If it were lost or stolen, I'd go back to Kelley's and order a new one just like it! These guitars are fantastic in my opinion, with a few minor flaws, that are easily enough worked out.

2004 model

V neck - it's great that Fender put out a production line model with this neck last year. I bought this to replace my 17 year old much modified clapton strat which needs a 2nd fret job, hums a bit (great pus though - got them off an old Tokai) and breaks strings at the bridge after approx 3 weeks. I had to have another V - my hands really like this type of neck. I wanted a guitar for heavy gigging and wanted to retire my old one

ROLLED EDGES - yeah for Fender again - feels broken in

WEIGHT - a little heavier than my old one - I like a heavy guitar - I rely on it for my vibrato style. I use a wide strap to compensate. I like alder tone - throaty - ash is no good for me.

New Heel Shape - great change - give just a little room for playing up hi - that's all I needed - a little

strap locks - nice - lots of playing - don't have to worry

cosmetics - nice sunburst with toned maple neck (not a cap ) aged plastic - pretty green guard - thick - oveall a nice 'old' look without being a relic.

pickups - this is the part that amazes me - perfect strat chime with great sustain - very little hum. I've done lots of side by side comparison with my old strat ( wonderful tone ) These new SCN pickups are divine. I can't believe fender got it so right - the first generation "vintage noiseless" PUs were not acceptable. For once I picked up a strat that I didn't have to run out and put new PUs on it. - unlike even the custom shop stuff - I've replace PUs on 2 custom shop teles.

FRET WORK - smooth - perfect intonation AS IS FROM THE SHOP. I needed to adjust it to set it up for hybrids ( 10 on bottom - 9 on top) - it was easy to adjust and it's right on

TREM - I was always a snob and wanted the vintage bridge - so glad I gave in - the new ones are great - for once - a trem I can leave floating and stays in tune - I also like the free swinging arm on these.

Schallers - never had these before - They're fine - I'm accustomed to them now.

S1 switching - use it especially in position 2 (middle - bridge ) - thick enough tone to play slide straight up. Strats are notorious for difficulty with slide tone - this does it. The reviews below are right on - the S1 is "not quite" humbucker tone. What it is is an almost perfect P90 tone - it sounds like my '59 junior - what a nice additional tone to have on a strat.

Have played 40 years - I'm a fan of STRAT + EL84s - I use a badcat cub II. - Carl Martin compressor (subtle amount of compression ) - BUDDA PHATMAN for crunch in bridge position. - sparkle drive for 'woman tone" - drive hi with tone on guitar rolled back - this Fender will sustain notes endlessly - moves into great feedback. I play in poprock - R+B - cover band - dance music. I wanted a strat that will gig heavy. Once more - I'm blown away by these PUs.

I did not have to run straight to my tech with this one - no need - wonderful intonation and playability.

It's held up well. I take a backup. I'm so pleased that this is a regular production model with the neck I like.

2004 American Deluxe Candy Tangerine with 50th aniversary neck plate. Nice touch for this year. This guitar is loaded with features. It is the nicest fender I have ever played. Select Alder body, Rolled edges on the neck, Lawrence noiseless pickups, locking tuners, stainless steel saddles, pop in tremelo bar. Everything you'd ever want in a strat. I also liked the extras, like the polish, cable, and strap locks. Plus the lifetime warranty. I never heard of that before.

I usually play a Tom Anderson drop top for hard rock and classic rock, and a Somewhat rare 1989 Ibanez Artstar AM400 semi-hollow body. I wanted a Fender Strat to capture that Fender Strat sound, like David Gilmour and John Frusciante. This guitar does exactly what I wanted it to do, without any noise from the pickups. Even on high gain settings, but I wouldn't recommend it for Metallica styles, because there is no humbucker. But I did not buy it for that reason anyway.

The factory set up was fine. I played about 7 of these guitars new and most were set up fine, and each had it's own character. The one I purchased had the action a little high for my preference, but I have heard from others that the action was set up a little low. So it might be a personal preference. Everything else was flawless. I can's stop admiring the guitar and it's quality.

I just bought it, but it does have a lifetime warranty. I am pretty sure that I or someone will be playing this guitar 40 years from now. I could use it without backup, but I have too many other guitars and styles to just gig with this guitar alone.

Never had to deal with Fender except the artist relations department, and they are very helpful.

I am just in awe of this guitar. I used to think that it was impossible to buy a quality guitar with no flaws, unless you had it custom built. I think that during the last 10 or 15 years the industry used to produce crap. But Fender changed all of my thinking with this guitar. This is hands down the best standard non-custom type guitar that I have ever played.

Bought from Sam Ash-2004-USA made - S1 pickup switching, noisless pickups. S/S/S pickup configuration. locking tuners, non-locking trem, but its the good Fender trem, not the one that pokes your hands when you play. Rosewood fretboard. Came with a case. Aged cherry sunburst. Gave it a 10 because compared to my tex mex, it has tons of features. One cool example of a hand-made strat vs a factory made strat...the knob by the bridge pickkup just isn't in my way. I dont know how they do that, but everytime I've ever played a knock-off strat I am painfully aware of the know being right in the way of my muting hand on the bridge. The expensive hand made strats?...the knob is not in the way. Its right there, yes...its just not in the way. Awsome!

Sounds incredible. It really is a work of art. The pickup switching lets you choose all 3 pickups at once, or any variatey of combinations. Its also dead quiet. Not one single bit of noise. It's funny, this guitar is so perfectly balanced in tone and timber, that when I put chorus on it, it only "blurs" the sound and makes it odd sounding and seem out of tune. The mexican strat I have only begins to sound remotely decent when I have dumped chorus on it. This guitar has a huge, perfect sound on its own. Another thing I noticed was that it really rings out acoustically on its own. I've read other reviewers when they said this and experienced it for myself finally.
Pickups are gutsy and unique in every setting. It really nails that quack sound of Sultans of Swing or Run like Hell by PFloyd.

perfect. Every chord, in every register on the neck, is perfectly in tune. Perfect fret work, neck fit, finish. The action was perfect for me. Not a flaw on the guitar. Feels balanced when holding it in my lap or while its around my neck.
My only complaint - and this is very minor and it applies to ALL guitar makers. When I spend $1100+ for a guitar, I really do expect to be able to take off the protective plastic without removing the knobs. The last thing I want to do to anything expensive, is take it apart in any way.

I dont know if I'll play live anytime soon or not, but I imagine it will hold up just fine if I do. Feels solid as a rock. Nothing cheap or plastic feeling about it at all.

I've been playing since I was about 13. I'm 38 now. I've owed myself a good guitar for a long time and always had an excuse not to get one. I'm so glad I finally did. I used to alwasy brag about my tex-mex. After playing my new one for a while, I went back to the tex mex. It was a joke. Some stranger could have taken it from my hands at that moment and thrown it into the trash and I'd have just left it there. There simply is N.O. going back to a cheap guitar once you've tasted the good life. Its worth every penny. A quality strat will play ANY music that you want to play....from Stevie Ray to Godsmack.

This guitar is a 2004 Am. Dlx. Stratocaster, 22 frets, maple neck & board, and 3 samarium cobalt pickups (SMC). The volume and tone controls are fender standard fare that comprises of 2 tone and one volume knob. It is made of 3 pieces of alder, regaurdless of what the salesman said about it being ash, it is alder. All Am. Dlx. Strats in 2004 come stock with tremolo bridge and locking tuners. As of this review, a hardtail isn't available in Am. Dlx. Trimmings. The frets are larger than older fenders, but not so large as to cause intonation problems from pressing too hard. Mine came with a form fitting case, leather strap & straplocks, and a bottle of polish and a cleaning cloth. Nice extras IMHO.

When I tried this guitar at the store, I plunked a few chords on it and had the salesman put it up for me. After bringing it home, I put it thru it's paces with the .009 Fender Bullets, then sent it back to the store for setup with .010's. I have stumps for fingers, and nines feel like thread under my fingers. I play southern rock and swamp music, and geezer rock. I even dabble in some Ingwie type stuffe rarely. I have found this guitar is just the ticket for my style, which usually always reverts to blues based stuff. This guitar is just as advertised-NOISLESS! The (SMC) exhibit little magnetic pull on the strings, and sustain isn't affected as adversley as with regular high output humbuckers and such. Every note frome these pickups sounds like it could explode when pick attack is heavy, and picking lightly rewards me with softer acoustic tones. The pickups are well balanced to me, but I could see how someone might call them bright due to their acoustic sounding nature. While I'm at it, I want to discuss the S-1 switching system. It allows the single coils to be paired up in threee ways, bridge and middle, bridge and middle out of phase, all three at once, neck and middle & neck and middle out of phase. It can pop a little when engaged, because there are capacitors involved and the store electricity. I find this annoying but not to the point of uslessnes as some other reviwers describe. Engaging the S-1 fattens up the tone for leads ect, but it isn't a true humbucker sound. It is a little weaker, ad some what unfocused. I am using this guitar with a Marshall DSL 100, and a JCM 900 1936, 2x12 speaker cabinet. I usually always play on the greeen channel without the crunch engaged. It rewards me with the bluesy tones I like. Think clean and qucky in positions 2 and 4 as usual. I want to describe the SMC pickups a little as well here. The SMC's are a very articulate pickup, that tranlate every little nuance of your playing into the amplified sound. From raking your fingers along the unplucked strings, or nto silencing unplayed strings, it will show. Each string and individual note seems like it has its own, individual pickup and is defined clearly within chords ect. Harmonics seem to be present in this guitar in a form that I have never experienced, and it is a joy to hear a chord ring with such clarity as it does in this guitar.

Factory setup was alright, but not to my liking. It came with a thin .009 Fender bullets strings. I immediately had that changed. Also, I had the tremelo screwed down tight, and flush to the body, so it would not move under double stop bends-(I wanted a hardtail). The guitar body was made of three pieces of wouud and you really cant tell untill you flip it on end and look at it. I know the corksniffers and screwcounters prefer 1 piece bodies, but it doesn't make that much difference to me. I did have a problem with the neck being a tiny bit off kilter and sent the guitar back to the dealer, where this was promptly covered under Fender's warranty. Mine came with the clear finish and I think they called it amber? Either way, it really shows the grain of the wood, and I like it. The finish seems durable, but I've managed to scratch it somehow. This isn't a big deal to me, as most of my guitars look reliced in a year or two, just from me using them. I feel guitars are for playing, and not for polishing.

I've already gigged this guitar three times, and haven't exprerienced any string breakage or any tuning problems. It holds tune well and intonates chords better than any guitar I have ever owned. The finish is pretty tough. I like the straplocks, and they seem solid. I definetely can depend on this guitar, but keep one of my trusty teles onhand fo a backup.

My guitar dealer, handled a neck adjustment issue for me, and said it was under Fender's warranty.

Overall, this is one nice Stratocaster in my opinion. Being a guy that played mostly set neck Jacksons and acoustics, I didn't fully understand the Stratocaster and all of it's sonic possibilities to start with, but now can appreciate the usefullness of each position on the 5 way switch. If it werer lost or stolen, i would purchase another of the same. I love this guitar period. I love all the sounds it can make and the cleanliness of the sounds, and tones. I wish it were a genuine hardtail, but it is working great for me in it's current setup. I am satisfied 99%!

A lovely guitar, a lovely face

I play blues, classic rock and this axe is a perfect one to me. The noiseless pickups works like a gentleman and it is a execllent blues machine. It generate clean sound which is better than some custom shop model. I always use it with a Boss overdrive pedal, and the result, you can have a Clapton sound. Blues, classic rock, this guitar always stands by your side.

The fast action neck works and I feel very comfortable. Custom looking, custom sounds, just like a custom-made model. The only thing I dislike is the 3-piece alder for the body.

How can I comment on an orginal strat style guitar? Anyway, it is a good partner when I was on the stage. It is reliable and I think I will use it for my coming years.

I was looking for a new guitar since I have sold my steinberger, and I could only find this colour in the store so I just took my wallet and married the guitar home. I hate the standard hardcase and I always ask "Should it be a deluxe tweed case?"
I wish to have a Parker Deluxe Fly and a PRS Custom for my collection. If it were stolen...............uh...come on......

2004 American Deluxe Stratocaster, 22 frets, maple fretboard, three samarium cobalt noiseless single coil pickups. Alder body, maple neck, Montego black finish with gold pickguard. S1 switching system. Locking tuners and standard nut, Schaller security locks and a vintage style vibrato.

I was originally looking for a sunburst 50th anniversary model, but this one felt and sounded perfect, so I accepted the montego black finish which also looks great with the little sparkling pieces in the finish. The neck on the Deluxe Stratocasters feels great, very smooth and fast. I love the abalone dot inlays.

The body is light compared to a Les Paul or the PRS that I own. The tremolo bridge looks solid, but I would say it is better on a PRS or a G&L.

I play blues based music and the Strat is perfect for the job, very authentical Stratocaster sound, the SCN pickups are really noiseless, I do not really use the S1 switch a lot. Engaging the S1 makes the sounds thicker, but personally I prefer my PRS if I needed humbucker sounds.

The guitar was set up by the shop, I instantly changed them to 10's and had them set up. I can not believe all manufacturers put 9's on their guitars, I have 11's on them now and have a higher action.

The guitar as it comes from Fender, Corona was perfect in execution, but that's what I would expect from a renowned manufacturer.

I love Stratocasters, Leo did a great job when he came up with that design, you can not beat it, the Deluxe Strats feel even better.

This baby is build rock solid, Fender guitars are working man's guitars, so I do not worry about it.
Deluxe's come with strap locks, that's how it should be !

I am playing for two years now, I own a Fenix PRS copy, a Taylor 414-CE, a PRS Custom 24, an Ibanez AS73 and this baby which is my main guitar now. I found this guitar hanging in the shop and for 850 USD I thought it was a steal, given the fantastic feel, sound and the upgraded features in comparison to the American Strats.

If it was stolen I would try to find the guy who stole it and apply some serious bashing on him with my bass. I would definitely get a Deluxe again.

This is absolutely great value for the price and there is really nothing that I dislike about it - sound, feel, reliability, price, everything is perfect.

This is a 2004 American Deluxe Stratocaster that literally came in the door while I was trying out the Standard American Strats in the store. I fell in love with it and bought it within 20 minutes of trying it out. It has the locking tuners, the knife-edge tremolo system, maple fretboard, alder body, noiseless cobalt pickups, S1 switching system for the new pickup combinations, abalone inlays and 22 frets. The finish is standard tobacco sunburst. What immediately caught my eye was how sturdy it felt (especially compared to the Standard American Strats) and how the magnetic poles of the pickups lined up with the strings (believe or not the Standard Strats I tried were random in this aspect), and the immediate playability of it (the 'comfort factor'). I currently own a '64 strat as well as 12 other various Gibson, Fender Ibanez and Hamer guitars and have been playing professionally for 35 years.

I had decided to buy this guitar before I had even plugged it into an amp (my philosophy is if it feels and sounds good acoustically it will sound great amplified). Once I did plug it in the sound was quite spectacular. While it took some getting used to the different pickup combinations via the S1 switching system, the new sounds have become standard for me on stage. I especially like the bridge pickup setting with the S1 switch 'in'. It comes as close to a double-coil sound as I've heard and gives great sustain for soloing. The new pickup combinations give an overall beefier sound and the standard pickup combinations have the classic Strat sounds intact. The 'noiseless' feature of the cobalt pickups is a dream come true! I play pretty much every style of music from country to heavy metal and I am able to get pretty much any tone I want with this guitar from a clean, bright chicken-pickin' sound to a thick rock sound, with my pedals on. My guitar signal currently goes through the following pedals; RAT, Tokai metal, IBANEZ tube screamer, BOSS Harmonist, BOSS analog delay and then into a BOSS CE-1 stereo chorus pedal which splits the signal into a Fender Blues Deville 2x12 amp and a Roland Cube 60. While I still also use a Godin electric guitar on stage for certain 'double-coil' sounds, since buying this Strat I am using the Godin less and less.

From the factory this guitar was pretty much setup the way I like it although it was strung with lights instead of regulars. Since I liked it the way it was I've gotten used to the light-guage strings. I did have to raise the high e-string and lower the low E string slightly. The action was great and what I especially liked was the lack of fret noise along the entire neck length, other than the above mention, no immediate adjustments were necessary. HOWEVER;
1. Right off the bat I found the floating tremelo system a nightmare to play in tune. I already have a Hamer with a Floyd Rose which I use for any whammy bar gymnastics so I didn't really want or require an extensive whammy bar system and I found that my style of playing (resting my wrist on the bridge) caused major playing-in-tune problems. The solution was to put an extra spring on the system to 'lock' it down and that worked great.
2. I've been playing professional guitar for 35 years and I stopped breaking strings about 33 years ago but I couldn't get a 1st or 2nd string to last more than 2 nights before it would break with this guitar!! They would always break at the same point on the saddle and I tried using emery cloth on the saddles and replaced both saddles twice with the same replacement saddles from the dealer, to no avail. I finally got fed up and replaced the e and b saddles with graphite ones and that resolved the problem, but I don't feel I should have had to do that with a new guitar. I'm not an agressive player!! I didn't notice any other flaws in the workmanship of the guitar itself but the string breakage problem was very frustrating.
3. Although the locking strap nuts, strap and polish were a nice touch to the bought package, the case that it comes with it I found to be cheaply made and has alignment problems and not near enough room in it to store extra strings, tools etc.

Now that I have locked down the tremolo system and resolved the string breakage problem with the graphite saddles, I feel the guitar is very reliable at gigs. One nagging POTENTIAL problem I see however is the mechanism for the S1 switch. I love the sounds it gives but mechanically I can't see it lasting long on the road before it's going to get dirty and start 'sticking' in the down position. I guess I'll deal with that problem when it comes up.

I've gotten good support from the dealer with the problems I had. I haven't tried dealing with Fender themselves.

Overall I'm very happy with this guitar and the 2 best things I've found is the extensive tone combinations and the noiseless pickups. I'm not happy with having to put the graphite saddles but I can live with it and it didn't change the tone too drastically. As mentioned earlier I also have a '64 Strat which was my main guitar until it required it's 4th fret job and this Strat has replaced it on stage for me.

2004 American Deluxe....new S-1 switching, locking tuners, strap lock, SCN noisless pickups

I play everything from heavy rock to funk and jazz and this guitar covers it......the new S-1 switching is great. The book tells you how it alters the pickup signal but its kinda like this.....without the switch it sounds very stratty with the new noisless pickups...much much better than the old noisless on the previous deluxe models.....kick in the s-1 switch and it really beefs up the sound....slightly louder, more bottom, and less chime.....almost but not exactly humbucker sounding....very very cool, and very usefull....its like having two guitars in one.....but ill give it a nice, becaue nothing is perfect

the neck is perfect...smooth satin finish....set up perfect...creamy to hold and play.....the finish is beautiful....mine is montego black with the gold pickguard....picture black with gold sparkles in it....really really classy lookin.....the only problems i found was that in bright sunlight you can see a section under the paint that isnt flat and smooth....it looks like it dips in a little bit....barely noticeable unless extremely bright light is reflecting on the guitar, but still annoying.

2004 ADS with V neck option. I reveiwed an ADS with C neck earlier and commented on wanting to try the V neck. Gorgeous 2-tone sunburst over "select" alder (whatever that means; guess it's Fender's way of saying "3 pieces of wood") with one piece maple neck. Also features 22 medium-jumbo frets with rolled edges on the 9.5" radius fingerboard and Fender/Schaller locking tuners anchoring the headstock. Abalone dot inlays, slight tint with medium gloss for the neck finish, and a very classy silver Fender logo completes the drool factor. New S-1 switching for 3 SCN noiseless single coil pickups. Before you get upset over it, yes I know they're really humbuckers disguised as single coils. V/T/T and 5 way-switch controls on a single layer aged mint pickguard. Case was rubbish; the salesman agreed and swapped out an SKB case at no charge. Not crazy about the SKB since I brought it home. May return for a refund and get a tweed, which was not in stock. Has a lot for features, but you can't give everything a 10.

Tried this baby out with a Vox AD120VTX at the store. Great range of tones with the single coils, but as I tried out the SCN pickups before, this was no surprise. Still having trouble adjusting to the S-1 switch. Innovative design and in theory a great tool for the gigging musician. After spending some time with my Les Paul Custom, that's what I'm going for when I need a humbucker sound (it has Duncan '59s in both positions). As much as I want to dig the boost with the S-1, it can't do it on it's own. You'll need a tube amp driving at higher power to get the full effect. All 5 (not counting the S-1) positions sound great. Can get throaty, honky, and glassy sounds with it. Added a little reverb and it really opened up the tone. Virtually noiseless at the store. I've also been trying it out at home with my Vox Cambridge (I know, I know...) and notice a slight hum, but I chalk that up the the amp over the guitar. I can't rate a full 10 as that blasted S-1 switch hasn't won me over yet. As another reviewer observed, tube amps make the single coil...

This was off the rack at another mega-big-box-corpo-rama guitar store (different location this time, see below under CS) and according to the salesman was unpacked only two days before I wandered in. The V neck is what sold me. Very, very comfortable. This one is three pieces of alder all right, but they did a fairly good job of matching the seams. A little wood figuring here or there adds character to this one; better than coat after coat of black till you can't see the wood. Again, the 2-tone burst is luscious; I want to go look at it right now to marvel over it. The neck had a smudge near the tuners, but uncertain if this is from the factory or the store. The nut was fine and not so much glue as I noticed before. P'ups again are fairly uniform in distance and positioning. As they're humbuckers, you don't have as much staggering and height concerns as single coils. The S-1 switch felt like it stuck a little, but we'll see about that. Steel saddles looked like they weren't adjusted as well as other new ones, but playing wise it's acceptable. Of course, the big "If I pay $1000 for a guitar it better be flawless" issue will be addressed below, my friend. If I had more nerve, I would've bargained for a set-up when I bought it, but if they're arguing that it's fresh out of the box, it probably wouldn't have happened.

Well, as before the use of StrapLocs as standard reflect that Fender actually appears to be listening to their consumers. The finish looks like it may take a few hits before anything bad happens, but if this stays (more below) I'll baby it of course. I spent about three hours with it in the store and at home, and it appears pretty reliable for gigging. Of course, I didn't spend all three hours at gig speed, but so far, it's good. I *did* have to retune a little every once in a while, and previous experience with locking tuners did not require that, so again there might be an issue with factory set-up. Climb the mountain and ask the wise man; "Sage, will any guitar let me play a gig without needing a backup?" "No, dumb@ss. You'll break a string and look like a dork up there..."

As before, Fender's warranty offers 1 year parts and limited lifetime to original owner if you don't tinker with it. Store clerk tried to upsell the store's extended warranty. Some folks may need it, but if the company won't back up, it's not worth having in the first place. I may try out Fender's support in a few days if I decide to keep this baby. More below.

Oh, where to begin: I know guitar store employees are conditioned to sell. It makes them money, the store prospers, you buy a guitar and everyone is happy, right? Three times I went to a local mega-big-box-corpo-rama guitar store to at least try the ADS again before deciding. I know it's probably a pain in the @ss dealing with someone if a sale isn't likely, but I'm a potential customer: humor me. All three times I stood before the wall o' Fender looking right at the one I wanted to try for 20 minutes. Not a soul asked me if I wanted to try something or at least said hello. I couldn't just reach up and grab it, as it was high up on the wall. So, I swore I wouldn't buy from that store ever again. Yesterday, I had time to kill, so I stopped at another branch of said mega-big-box-corpo-rama guitar store and wandered in. Within two minutes of walking in, a guy asked if I was looking for anything. When I said, ADS, he scanned the racks, and had a ladder out in a minute yanking it down for me to try. Asked which amp I use at home and set me up with a nicer Vox to try it out. I played for an hour without an interuption aside from "Let me check on these folks and I'll be right back" or "How's it sound?" every ten minutes. No salespush, no rush, no "c'mon man, I have to go outside to smoke, hurry up..." This guitar was what I wanted and it stung me bad. I caved and decided I'd try it out at home before making a final decision. The salesman even said "Take it home, you don't like it, bring it back in 30 days and I'll give you a full refund." That's service without flubbing the sale. Tried to work with the price, but wasn't much room to negotiate. You can get these cheaper used or on eBay sometimes, but not with everything this model offers. So, I'm still undecided on if she'll stay; I could in theory build a Warmoth and try to match the specs, but it'd cost about the same once everything is added up. These new ADS are great builds when everything falls into place. You have to pay to get the better specs, but ultimately, it's up to you. If you're after one, try it. Try it again. Try 10 different ones if the store has them. I may return mine, but that's just me; it has almost everything I want, but for price, there should be no doubt. I still have doubts. But if you're serious about Strats, and know exactly what you want, you won't be disapointed.

Bought Spring 2004,new American Deluxe Stratocaster.Serial number has a DZ3,however,so it may have been late 2003's early production of the 2004 line,in Corona. [I know it's an early-run model,as I'll go on to explain.]
Montego Black finish with Gold scratchplate.Maple neck,3 SCN "single-coil" [technically,humbuckers,but designed for single-coil sound] pickups,and S-1 switching system.Locking tuners. Toolkit,cloth,strap and case included. Case a bit dodgy,looks okay but feels weakly-made and is too tight to hold the guitar with a strap;you have to remove your strap to fit it in.
I initially hated the colour,but slowly it's grown on me...and when getting it valued at a good music shop recently,I realised how KINGLY it looked among all their other stock..and a hush fell as I opened the case,and I was inundated with curious admirers! [maybe also due to the serious mods I've had to it.]I nearly wrote "the KING of Strats woz 'ere!" on their noticeboard,LOL!

The sound is very good,plus I've had it modified.It is maybe a tiny touch smoother on the neck and middle selections than standard Strats;but the overtones are sweet,and the tone in general is a slightly rich,clear modern Strat sound. However,it now has a Duncan JB at the bridge,and a modified S-1,done by a tech for me. Let me explain;
There are,out there,TWO versions of the S-1 switching on these models! The middle,switch-down,all-3 pickups on selection is in fact a change that was implemented after the first models were made. When I got it,this did not have the all-3 pickups on mode in the S-1 down-middle selection.It did have the standard connections of bridge/middle in series,etc.though. This is how I know mine is a guitar from their early-production line of these models.It doesen't have the 50th Anniversary features,either,but I don't bother bout that,I wanted a high-grade workhorse not a collectors' piece.[I'm a working musician,when anyone in this Godforsaken area decides to employ me,at least!] Personally,I didn't like the stock S-1 sounds;If you ask me,it was nothing like a humbucker sound;I think the SCNs are too far-spaced to effect that.It seemed a weaker,thinner tone,like an only-slightly-fattened single-coil,and it lacked enough useable attack for me. Plus,in fact my selection of a 3-single coil guitar when I wanted really a HSS,was quite deliberate;I didn't want the roller nut and other features the HSS has that this doesent. So,I had every intention of having it modded,even before purchase. Now,I have the sound I want! The JB,for me,works fantastic;AND I've had a seperate coiltap switch fitted,so I can split the JB;Gives a nice Bridge-Strat tone,and I still get the "quack" of bridge/middle,when it's tapped. However,interestingly,my tech slightly misunderstood the wiring of the S-1 when working on it,thinking it was a later wiring layout;and I've ended up WITH the middle-selection,all-single-coils on sound after all! plus,the in-between sounds with the switch pushed down,are a lot duller and more mellow;like an SG with the tone knobs rolled off. Not something I use all the time,but oddly useful for certain leads;when I want a thick and muddy tone,or a backoff in volume to double a vocal line without overpowering the singer. So there you go...Ten sounds now,but different to EITHER a stock 3-single OR a stock HSS Deluxe! In standard Strat or HSS modes,with S-1 switch up],the sound is bright,rich and full;[but then I use excellent valve amps,so I get the best out of it anyway.] Only reason I don't give a 10,is I think a TBX,like on my Jap Contemporary Strat,would have improved this even more.
My personal mod on this guitar can now do even MORE styles than the stock! Jazz to metal,knopfler to Clapton to Santana,Blues to country,old to new...you name it,this beauty does it. Stays in tune a treat,too,if you set it up and FIT THE STRINGS RIGHT! There's a method of string-fitting that comes in the manual. USE IT! It ain't printed just to look pretty!

Okay,I'll be straight with you...It was a toss-up between this and the Eric Clapton Strat,when looking for something to succeed my Contemporary Strat,which is a particularly great example,like a fluke-but that's just getting old after 18 years played daily,and parts very hard to find for Contemporarys. I wanted a true humbucker though,not a battery simulation...and,well,I already sound so much like the Soldano-era EC himself,at times,that I didn't want to be categorized as just a style copyist,if I appeared with the EC model onstage. Overall,I think I made the right choice.
The action was too high for me from factory,and I use .008's...plus the fretboard was horribly choking notes at first. So..the tech re-radiused it to a flatter fret-profile..and BINGO! One MEAN fretboard!My own choice of strings and more fine-tuning of setup at home,and the neck is now like BUTTER when I play! It's that smooth and slinky. It's almost perfect now! This is now,the way I have it,a real LEAD guitar,for soaring notes and flurries of inspired lines! I say almost,because to me,the neck is very slightly too fat...tho it's probably just me being used to the slimline Contemporary's neck for so long. No real problem. The action is how I like it,now,too..at a hair's height! I didn't and don't care for the wang bar,or any wang bar,in fact;so I've had it blocked off inside,too.All these mods and 5 springs,means I now rate it BETTER than the Clapton Strat,and I've tried a few of those! Well,this is MY kinda "Blackie!" The finish seems slightly stickier than I'd like,and a little to easily scratched or smeared for my liking...but It's still in tip-top condition as of now. Only real criticism...the volume knob is too close to the strings,creating a slightly hampered picking position.

It's hardier than some guitars,but still only wood and parts,after all.Don't lob it down the stairs or anything,and it should be O.K.

Fender are,like one or two other big names,a load of fucking wankers when it comes to customer support. Even more so in the U.K. Unless you got a particularly good retailer,who tries their best,then you'll have to find a tech and pay yourself if owt goes wrong with it. No direct warranty for the U.K. either-your warranty seems "with your dealer,wholly with your dealer and with no-one else but your dealer" over here,...to copy a famous legal diction! If your dealers are dickheads,forget it,you're in the desert.

I've played since 1982. I se this guitar,a Contemporary Strat,and a Laney VH100R head thru a marshall cab,a smaller Marshall combo amp,an Orange head,a Fender Twin and a stunning locally built copy of an Ovation acoustic.

2004 Fender Deluxe Stratocaster, alder body, candy tangerine color, rosewood neck (22 frets), schaller locking tuners, fender deluxe tremolo with pop in arm, 3 x SCN noisless pickups and S1 switching system.

Very versatile instrument that would suit practically any style of music. The SCN pickups are very quiet and S1 switching system really does beef up the tone giving a humbucker like quality to the sound. As you would expect beautiful clean "straty" tones are available in abundance. When played through a good quality tube amp the sound is exceptional. Strat fans will absolutely love it.

My guitar appears to be flawless.

All of the hardware is first class and robust. I had my doubts about the tremolo before I purchased the guitar but it has turned out to be fantastic and looks and sounds much nicer than the horrible looking locking units fitted on practically all $400 copy guitars.

No need to contact customer support so far. Manual provided is quite good.

I wanted to buy a good quality strat type guitar that looked good and sounded excellent. The 2004 deluxe strat meets all of these requirements.

2004 model. US-made. Alder body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard. 3 SCN noiseless pickups, S1 switching system. Locking tuners, tremolo with snap-in arm.

This guitar needs a better nut and a better way to adjust the tremolo arm tension (two hex bolts that are only accessible when you remove the bridge).
An output jack mounted on the side of the guitar rather than the front would be a big improvement also (functionally as well as aesthetically) - the cable can get in the way when you go to grab the tremolo arm.
Also, the volume knob is too close to the picking area.

I would love to see Fender put set necks on some of their guitars (apart from the $3600 Richie Blackmore custom shop thing).

Looks great and is yery comfortable to play. Comes with a nice accessory package as well (strap, strap locks, cable, wrenches), but the case is terrible - it's a generic Chinese-made molded Strat/Tele case. I can barely fit my strap in the compartment, the latches are chintzy, and it's very ugly. I plan to make this thing go away ASAP.

Dead quiet - very impressive in this area.
I'm not a Fender enthusiast - I have always been turned off by the amount of noise they make. This is my first Fender. I would not have considered buying this guitar if it wasn't for these pickups. I don't know how faithful they are to the "classic" strat tone, but to my ears it's pretty close - maybe a bit more subtle with the S1 switch off. It suits me fine though, because I really don't like to much of that "quack" anyway. This guitar puts out just enough. With the S1 switch engaged you can get some sounds that are quite ballsy, at least with the bridge and middle pickups. I like a very high gain sound (Mesa Boogie Mk. IV) and the S1 system really adds some nice punch.
Nice resonance and sustain.

Good quality overall, but not exceptional. About what you would expect for the money I suppose.

Everyone seems to like to talk about the neck pocket so:
The cut on the top side of the neck pocket was just a bit ragged and I can slip one business card in there, but there is less space on the botton side. Again, I want a Strat with a set neck! I will say that the neck-tilt adjustment bolt is pretty neat. A little tweak on that thing did wonders for the action.

Fret work is pretty good (but again not great). The action was too high for me, but I got it down pretty low. I have spent a lot of time setting this guitar up and I'm fairly satisfied with it (I'm very particular about action, intonation, bridge curvature, etc). I suppose I will have the high frets dressed at some point.

I talked about the tremolo arm tension adjustment already - there seems to be a lot of confusion about how to adjust it. It's not in the manual and the guy I talked to at the store didn't know how either (no surprise there). The arm was swinging freely when I first got the guitar. After tightening the bolts it was better - we'll see how long it stays that way.

Nice finish on the body - no visible flaws.

Still to early to tell how this guitar will hold up.
I'm suspicious of one-piece necks.
Also, this guitar has been very inconsistent as far as staying in tune goes, even without using the tremolo and with graphite powder on the nut. I actually decided to return it for a refund a couple of times for this reason, and yes, I do know how to string it up correctly. I still may return it depending on how often it goes out of tune, but I hope I don't have to, because I really want to like this guitar. Last night it stayed in tune just fine, and I do hope that trend continues.

Been playing 25 years. I bought this guitar because I had been thinking abut a Strat off and on for years, and I wanted to get it out of my system one way or another. I am a very fussy bastard. This guitar is ok IMO. Not great. Definitely not a top shelf guitar by any stretch of the imagination (but I didn't expect one for $850). This guitar, like the Les Paul, is a classic because it was the first of it's kind. It's not the best of it's kind (nor is the LP).
What else can I say? if it stays in tune I'll keep it :)

I play through a Boss GT6 into either a fender twin (solid state version) or straight into a PA - depending on where I'm playing. This thing is absolutely INCREDIBLE!
It has replaced my Mexican Tele and my Epiphone Les Paul (fitted with Gibson pups).
Think about it...with the S1 switch you have TEN pickup combinations! Plus 2 tone knobs and a detent position for the "delta tone". I thought all these options would make it confusing, but within an hour my brain figured out what the options sound like and I was switching like a madman. It's so easy with the strat controls and every tone is awesome!

I play a bunch of stuff from SRV and Hendrix to Pearl Jam and Incubus. Plus I play in my church band about 6 hours a week and it's awesome for all modern worship songs.

Perfect set-up.
I put 10's on it, so I had to mess with the tremlo a little...but it was so easy. The manual tells you how to set up everything.

I got 2 chips in the paint already and I don't know how. It seems to crack easy. Luckily strats look cool when they're beat up.

I wish I had a Hot Rod Deluxe amp, and maybe a Les Paul Standard, just for another flavor...but I'm totaly satisfied at this point.

Tried out a new 2004 Deluxe Stratocaster the other day and was impressed enough to write a review despite not buying it (not allowed to buy a new guitar until the most recent one is paid off first!) 22 frets on a 1 piece maple neck, Fender/Schaller locking tuners, sculpted heel at neck joint, abalone dots, modern "C" neck shape, truss rod adjustment at the neck, satin finish, medium jumbo frets and the oh-so-lovely rolled edges. A "V" neck option is available, but was not in-stock at the store that day. Body is solid Alder (2 piece?) with a gorgeous 3-colour burst and complete with Strap-locks. New SCN noiseless pickups with S-1 switching, more on which below. Supposed to come with case, vibrato arm, et cetera...

I was put-off at first by the idea of S-1 switching. Without knowing the exact series/parallel configuration at first, to my ears it sounded like a tone boost to ape a humbucker. That might be the best way to classify it, because that's what it sounded like to my ears. But the more I played it, the more I started to enjoy it. I could see the purpose of it, but it's a bit like having a tone-boost on your amp; leave it on, and you can neglect the original un-modified tone. But getting to that un-modified tone that everyone buys a Fender for... The noiseless pickups were exactly that; quiet, no hum, and very smooth. Glassy, quacky, twangy heaven. The salesman said he prefered these new SCN noiseless to the earlier noiseless p'ups, but as I never tried those, I can't agree nor dispute. I will say that I loved the noiseless option over the American Series Standard I tried the same day. Just great Strat sound in any position. With the S-1 switch, you could play an entire set with just one guitar in theory...

This beauty was hanging on the wall at the local mega-box-corpo-rama guitar store, so a fair few have probably plugged it in. Even if that's true, it must be a testament to Fender's improving quality control. I've never shopped for expensive Fenders, so if everything over $900 is set-up this good, I can see why they charge more. The finish was smooth and clean, though it did smudge a bit from hand oils. Nothing a quick wipe with a cloth couldn't solve. The p'ups were set pretty evenly and although the polepieces were obviously staggered, only the D string pieces were raised uniformly. The wood grain was matched very well. To be honest, I still don't know if it was a 2-piece body or just a single slab of Alder. Tuners were smooth and operated nicely. The locking tuners work so well that whoever set up the guitar last didn't even wrap the strings around the tuner base; just inserted, locked, cut, and turned maybe a quarter of the way around. That's as snug as I've ever seen. Nut was good; a teeny amount of glue was visible at the slot, but I won't dock anything on that. The tremolo bridge and saddles were great. Controls worked without a hitch. No flaws that I could find, other than it not coming home with me. If only every Fender went out the door like this!

The hardware looks really solid. The finish will last and glow with proper care; they're apparently shipping a Meguiar's care kit with the case candy for the Deluxe line, so there's no excuse for your finish every crapping out on you if you buy this one. Strap-locks as a standard is genius. I think you could gig without a backup if you're able to play without breaking a string, but I certainly wouldn't stake a gig on it.

I used to put a "5" just to balance out, but realize now that it's not valid if I haven't spoken to them. Website has a lot of information (but not all-encompassing) but still no direct way to contact them until you've looked around for a while. Shame on them for no toll-free number. 1 year warranty for parts, but limited lifetime for the original owner as long as you don't tinker with it. If I had an issue with them, I'd hope my buying a top-of-the line instrument would entitle me to excellent care. I know that's not always the case though...

I've played a few Fenders in the past, but always sold them to scratch some other itch (or too poor and needed the cash. Ah, college days.) After careful thought, I think I'd keep a Strat over a Tele as you can get a better range of tones. My Les Paul serves the humbucker purpose and my Gretsch handles the hollowbody/Bigsby duties, so I think I'd be very happy with this guitar rounding out my collection. Of course, there are always new toys to be had, and I couldn't believe someone saying they wouldn't want another guitar after finding "The One." This may just be "The One" and if I had more money to my name I would possibly have walked out with it yesterday. In the meantime, I'd love to try the "V" neck version just to see if it's a better feel before I make a decision. I think anyone looking for a Stratocaster would be very pleased going with this one.

I give it a 9 'cos it's a strat and does everything I want, but no guitar is perfect (lets face it,who'd be happy with perfection...it's the flaws that add character)...
I am not in a band at present (though I do occasionally deputise for a mate) but I am a regular face on the local jam night circuit.
My main styles are rock and blues, this guitar I mainly use for bluesier stuff...more on that below...

Fantastic for blues, pop, rock, jazz anything short of metal...and it's probably give that a try and still sound good...
I have used this guitar through a variety of amps and it always sounds good. Stick it through a decent valve amp and it absolutely sings!!
The pickups do have a slightly lower output than many strat p/ups, but I like that fact as it means you can turn the amp up just that bit higher...

Excellent...no flaws in finish, people often comment on how good it still looks after 6 years...I have played brand new USA strats which don't play as well as this one...
Have had the frets redressed once, but I use this guitar everyday, so after 6 years, that's to be forgiven...

Build like a brick s**t house...I use this guitar live without a backup regularly...
Saying that I would never gig without a backup as I am very hard on my strings and break at least one a week...but not always on the same guitar...

I have now been playing 7 years, I consider myself to be an average player, but am a self-confessed guitar-junkie...
I had to sell off my 'collection' last year, but this is the 1 guitar I kept...in fact I fully intend to have this guitar buried with me...
I have recently bought a Takamine Electro and Gibson Les Paul Custom (the real deal) and am now saving for a decent amp.
As previously stated, I use my strat predominantly for bluesier numbers and leave the heavier stuff to the Les Paul...not cos the Strat can't handle them, just cos I prefer the Les Paul sound.
I toyed with adding the electronics from a Clapton Strat to this guitar, but decided to keep it 'as new'...I will be buying a Clapton strat at some point to become my main guitar...but only cos I don't want to damage this one...

2000 American Deluxe Stratocaster. 22Frets. White see thru ash body and Rosewood Fretboard/Maple neck. 5 way selector switch. Noiseless Pickups. Neck is medium C, very comfortable with it's rolled edges, great concept. Tolex Fender Case, whammy bar and key.

I play Blues, nothing more and nothing less. I also own a 1965 Gibson ES-355 which also plays Blues. The 2 Guitars compliment each other. Between them I can get whatever sounds are in my head. I use a Fender Blues Deluxe amp with these beautiful Guitars. They can moan, wail, or cry. Emotions pour forth from these 2 axes. You don't have to be a great guitarist to have your music recognized, just play with soul and your deepest feelings. The American Deluxe Strat is one Great tool.

Can you say, "Custom Shop Quailty?" Sure, I knew you could. I purchased the Strat used. Setup was good, but I changed the string guage and it change the setup. We did a re-setup and now it's just fine. The guitar has no flaws. It could have passed for new, honestly. The guy that owned it before me played it about a week and it went to the closet till it was sold. He lost interest. His loss is my gain.

I have no doubt about it's reliabilty. Built to last.

Playing now since 1963, 41 years. I'm 53 and have plenty of time left in this ole body. You'll get mixed opinions on this guitar as you will with any. I love the Strat, the sound, the feel of the rolled edges, the Noiseless PUPS, the color, and the fact that it sings the Blues so well. In fact here's a short story. When I first got the Strat I was in my music room bending the strings and my wife heard me playing. She came upstairs and said, that's sounds real nice, you are gonna keep that one aren't you? See she knows the Tone that I desire and she heard it too. I told her it was a keeper. It's nice to be supported in my music. Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster. Try one, buy one. Their not for everyone, only those who desire great Tone.

2004 USA 3-tone sunburst/maple fb, SCN pickups, S-1 switch, locking tuners and strap locks, pop-in trem bar...the rest typical strat features except for the neck joint which curves down just a bit. It's also stamped "Stratocaster 50th anniversary 1954-2004" on the neck plate, which was a nice surprise.
Price included hardshell case, cable, leather strap and a few other things.

The sound is absolutely great! and the pickups are SO QUIET you can't even tell it's plugged in. The sound is pretty bright with enough bite for me and not at all thin. It's sometimes a little too bassy when i push the S-1 switch down depending on the position but i guess i'm still getting used to it. It's all about EQ, baby. Over all i love the sound and i can't stop playing it!
By the way i'm using a Kustom 65 DFX amp...great for clean sounds!

The action was a little high for me but it's no biggie.
The pickups were really close to the strings and i guess that's because they have almost no pull, so they say.
The wood is REALLY nice! Better looking than the zoom picture on musiciansfriend.com (oh sorry, Sam Ash)
The only thing i don't like is the pop-in tremolo bar. i prefer the screw in type.
This is the most beautiful guitar i've ever owned. Almost too pretty.

Seriously, it's a Fender and it should hold up well if i take care of it.

I've been playin' for 16 yrs and this is the second Strat i've purchased. I used to play Ibanez.
All i have to say is YOU DESERVE this guitar...so go buy one.
It's only a couple hundred more than the American Series and much nicer looking and much quieter.

They did well to put high quality everything on this guitar.

I play rock/blues, a mix of the last 40 years of music.
I use it through a 1989 Mesa Boogie Mark III Simulclass Green Stripe with extra 3/4 back Mesa cabinet. Also through a 2004 Fender Hot Rod Deluxe.
Effects : Normally just a GT-6 on the floor, mostly verb & delay.
Quiet pick-ups, great sound, very versatile (especially with button to combine pickups more like humbucker).
This is the best overall strat I have played, playing wise and sound. I have a Japanese strat that I like, but this 04 AM Deluxe Strat really impresses me.

Action is low and smooth, pickups were well adjusted, intonation is right on (may have been set at dealer). I put new strings on when I got it and it was ready to go.

Just did 1st gig with it. My Parker Fly Deluxe sat in the stand, since this AM Delxe Strat kept me happy the whole gig. Came with strap locks.
I'm off to NC tomorrow, will do 3 nights in a row gigging, and this is the only guitar I am bringing. It's always a risk for breaking a string, but the guitar impresses me as solid and well made.

I've been playing 24 years, have had many Fenders, etc over the years. Currently use mostly my Parker Fly Deluxe, 1982 Charvel San Dimas, 1986 Charvel by Jackson.

I was considering an American Strat, but this was so much better. This is also the 1st guitar I have reviewed, only because I was so impressed with it.

2001 American Deluxe. s/s/s. Black w/ maple board. Noiseless p/ups, locking tuners, 5-way, etc.

These pickups sound great in all positions. Something about the heavier locking tuners really balances it out nice when playing standing up. A very full-on Strat tone, dynamic. I play through a Groove Tube head and it sounds incredible-like any good strat. Plenty of output from these pickups.

The fret finishing work is fine and mine has the most amazing quarter-sawn figured neck you would normally see on a custom shop Fender. Nice tight neck fit and very resonant. I played every Strat they had in the shop and could have bought any one-I picked this one over reissues, custom shops and the rest. Easy to set up.

No worries here-solid guitar.

I love Strats, and this is as good in a diferent way as the oldies. Love the pickups. I would not swap them out for anything else. Now they have the v-neck shape, another good move by Fender for those of us who like the feel of the older necks. I would highly recommend these to anyone-they hold up to abuse, they sound like a old Start, they're worht every penny (especially if you can get a nice used one on ebay or elsewhere). Don't believe the bs about crappy pickups-they will sound a bit thinner through a non-tube amp-but if you play a Strat, you shouldn't use a solid state amp anyway!

2001 Am Dlx w/ s/s/s/ noiseless p/u in crimson transparent finish alder body/RW fretboard. It has locking tuners and a pop-out trem bar...but lacks the new S-1 switch or sculpted heel.

I bought this axe on a lark. I was prepared to find the noiseless p/u's lacking, but not so......The guitar sounds great in pos'ns 1,2,4& 5. Actually they sound better than Custom 54's, Holy Grails or 57/62's in my oter strats....go figure!....... Excellent Hendrix, Knofler and blues tone. Easily the best sounding Strat I've of the 5 I've owned ( AmSe, AmSt, Clapton, 62RI, 1983)

I bought it used so I can't comment re: factory set-up.

My only criticism is the 3 piece alder body. This seems inappropriate for a $1200 finished guitar w/ a transparent finish.

The guitar construction is otherwise excellent.

It's a strat, we know they last approx 50 years or so.

I've not dealt w/ Fender re: this guitar. They did replace a body on another guitar w/ a finish crack for no charge w/ free shipping.

Been playing 30+ years. My present guit-arsenal includes A McCarty, an Am Std Tele B-bender and an Emmons D-10 pedal steel.

I would definitely replace it if it were stolen..It sounds and plays great, what more can you say?

How can one rate the features of a guitar? 's all in the fingers folks... I can be you anything Mark Knopfler can make $50 WallMart guitar sound like a $5000 Martin...

UNPLUGGED: True test of any electric is the unplugged sound. When you buy a guitar, just play it unplugged. The rest doesn't really matter since pups/pots can be changed anytime. It's the wood that makes it sing and the quality of the finish that makes it play with joy.

Mine has ash wood, much more resonant, worm wood than my older alder Strat that I sold to buy this one (word of advice here - do not sell your guitars, they are like your digits, once gone, never to be replaced, always to be missed ;)

PLUGGED: not as bright as a true Fender should be due to the nature of the Noiseless pups, kinda muddy and weak on the 5 (bridge) pos; harsh on 3, especially at the higher freq's; but oh-so-glorious on 1/2 and 1, makes me wanna stop typing and play some more. I'm playing through Hot Rod Deluxe amp, which has it's own overdrive issues so it's kinda difficult to tell until I change the pups to CS '69s.

If you want the biting, Blackmore / Hendrix sound, you will have to change pups to CS '69's or such, the stock pups sound OK but don't have that classic edge to them (that's the cost of 'noiseless' sound) - I'm going to do just that...

I bought it 3 months old off ebay so can't give points here; guitar was setup by a tech in my local music store for as low action as possible, the nut was cut deeper as well (later, once my hands got used to it, I actually raised the action due to somewhat pronounced string buzz and short sustain). Now I feel it's perfect for me

The action will never be comparable to the super-low guitars made by PRS or signature Ibanez (even LP) - it's a bolt-on Fender so accept it and live with it! Due to the neck qualit it can be set quite low (as mine is) and the rest is practice, practice, practice. Ritchie Blackmore switched from Gibson to Fender because "they were harder to play".

As for the 'comfort' factor, the guitar is as comfortable in the actual playing 'feel' as the best big-city music stores have to offer. Every guitar has it's own 'feel', even within the same model, to my experience.

Gear - Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, Boss GT-6 (that I almost never use due to the fabulous sound of the HRD), cheap Crate 15W s-s combo for practicing with a friend. Owned a Fender Mex Strat (never should have sold it - it's a great guitar sans pups); Marshall AVT50 combo (great amp), Fender Cyber-Deluxe (great with effects - fantastic tape echo effect, crap when played clean), Traynor YCV40 tube combo (totally unsuited for a single-coil Strat, great with humbacking guitars)

Experience- weak, a couple of years when I was a teen copying my guitar heroes on a beat-up acoustic; and the last 2 years practicing regularly 2 hrs/day. (I'm in my late 30s now)

I feel I will stay with this baby till my wife tells me to stop playig or else... Bottom line (I know, I'm repeating myself): it's in the hands, not the gear, never forget that. And the hands is in the practice. If you don't accept this simple truth then you better find another hobby soon! This guitar is all you'll ever need, within the realm of the Strat 'tone'. For other tone, look to other guitars. Amen.

Do yourself a favour: sell your "collection", get a standard Squire strat, maybe like the one Jeff Healey used to play before he reverted to his old love, jazz, re-learn to play, and try to post - this time in the appropriate section - again. Done.

It is a strat - more features than anyone will ever need on a guitar

This is a strat of a different nature. I've had this one for about a year now and it is starting to break in nicely.
I am mostly a Rock/ Blues player and it delivers in spades.
The distorted sounds are clear from top to bottom, and with the noiseless thing completely quiet.
The clean tones are not as they would be on a 62 strat or true single coil - by that i mean not as bright - but great none the less.
This is Definitely more of a "modern" strat as oppossed to the "SRV" types - but don't get me wrong, it can get the Hendrix - SRV thing and very well i might add.
Keep in mind that this is the strat i have been looking for being able to go from Blues to full on gain with out out having the noise that goes along with it.
anyone looking for a little more "horsepower" out of a strat should realy check one of these out.

Well this is my favorite part of any review because it is great to see how dumb people are when they post there comments.
I never talk about action or string hight - because so many people think that's all there is to a guitar. I will only comment about the build and feel, becuase everyone has different tastes about string hight.
The build on this guitar is light years ahead of a regular standard -i sat side by side with a few before making my purchase, the body & neck are wonderful, frets are dressed nicely and the hardware is top notch. The contoured hell is a god send! i can't believe they have not done this years ago. the overall feel is more solid than a regular standard you can tell that the woods are a better grade and more time was taken putting this one together. tuners are smooth and the trem works like it should, and the pop-in arm is also a great feature on this model - no more stripped threads ( and you can adjust the tension on it - some morons said you can't - checj the trem block for set screw)
Overall very solid & resonant feel

As i stated above it is built like a tank, have Doubt will last for years.

Overall i could not be happier with it, and that's coming from a Gibson snob. I am very glad i took my time finding a strat to get back into (I think you need to be very patient when finding a strat). I have owned a jap model squire in the past as well as a SRV moded about 10 years ago, but this one does what i want a strat to do, and it does it well. It is a player and sounds great. I have been playing for well over a decade now & always find myself coming back to Les Pauls & Strats - there are just no substitutes. No one has come up with a better idea (or an original one) in 50 years - period.

Im not surewhat year it was made, It was a gift from a close friend who paid around $1100 for it. it was made in America, has 21 frets which I cant stand the 3 missing frets. it is a solid top, it has all the standerd strat controls. I believe it has a mahogany body and a maple neck. A transperent finish. Im not sure what to call the bridge but it sure aint no floyed rose. The tuners dont lock wich would be a draw back but the bridge is so bad that u dont even ever wanna use the wammy bar. the tuning peg are pretty nice though. It came to me with a case but im not sure if it had one to bigin with. I personaly dont like the features.

The sound is O.K. when i am playing classical, country or even blues but when I play metal it sounds like a dying cat. It dosnt suite my music style because I like to mix all 4 togther. I play it through my main amp (which I love) a Re-Issue super reverb Full Stack. But I also like to play it through my Mesa Boogie Full stack wich I love too. Like I said it has a very rich sound when im paying classical, country or blues but when I play metal or try to mix the 4 it has a Buzz Do to Distorton and sounds horrible. Ovral the sound is pretty good for the stle it was built for and i like it.

O.K. the action on this guitar SUUUCKS. i have heard many people say it has great action but these people have plobably played strats their whole life. I will admit for a strat it has nice action but I have never played a stat with action i thought was good. (An Ibanez Jem7v has the best action of any guitar I have ever plyed) Now as bad as this action is my friend spent alot of time making it better for which i am gratefull. Nothing on the guitar was messed up when it was boght. no warping of any kind.

This guitar is not very durable for the price. It will withstand live playing because ive only played it live one tme and it will be the only time. I cant imagine it lasting after the beatings like my jem has. The finish is top quality and I can tell it will last a long time. The strap buttons were good but I replaced them with Strap locks like all my guitars. I wuldnt ever depend on this guitar. I wouldnt use it at a gig without a backup either beause it wouldnt make it out of the case.

There are no questions I wish I had asked befor I bought it because it was a gift. I would not buy another if it were stolen or lost. I do like the way it looks in my collection. I hate pretty much every thing else about it though. I wish it had a better design. But it was a gift so I wont sell it.

Although the look of the guitar drew me to it, it was the sound that convinced me to buy it. The noiseless pickups are amazing sounding. This one does not have the S1 switching available in this model but I am still thrilled with the sound.

Every detail of this strat is quality, from the inlaid chrome Fender logo on the headstock to the amazing buttery feel of the neck. The edges of the fretboard are rolled and the fretwork is superb! Just a gorgeous guitar to look at and to play.

Everything seems very solid and well finished. I expect it to last decades.

I'm a little perturbed that Fender doesn't even list Canada as a country. At least the UK, Europe, Asia and Australia have websites and head offices - but I had difficulty even registering my guitar with Fender because the registration card and the registration on the website do not have places for Provinces or Postal Codes.

I am buoyed by the fact that I have a great music shop/dealer here in town.

I have been playing for 34 years - mostly acoustic. I have had a Squire strat for the last five years and played a variety of cheaper electrics (I've saved my $$ for first class acoustics). However, this strat is amazing - I'm in love with it!

It's a Fender Strat, so you know what the basic features are, but it's called a 'Deluxe' because it has locking tuners and 'noiseless' pick-ups. This particular one has a translucent green finish that lets the grain show through nicely. The headstock is the smaller pre-CBS version and the 'Fender Stratocaster' logo is silver! One of the nicest things about this guitar is the rolled edge on the fingerboard that makes it incredibly comfortable to play. It has 22 frets, with the 22nd fret being supended on a lip that extends the fretboard over the body.

Now this may sound strange, but I'm really not a fan of Fender guitars. Other people can produce wonderful tones from them, but not me... until today, that is. I'm a teacher and I got roped in to be the musical director of a show at school and we had a big rehearsal today. I decided to take the Strat because the whammy bar would be useful to add a shimmer on some 50s-style songs we are doing. I spent all day with it and it was wonderful. But... it can't do that humbucking sound...

Superb. The locking tuners are a joy, and the rest of the guitar is as flawless as it's possible to be. A thing of beauty.. it could be shown in an art exhibition. The action is fine for me, but that's obviously an individual thing.

Seems good enough to me. Despite not being a Fender fan, I have had two or three Strats over the years and they have never let me down in a live situation. I have not gigged this one yet, and I always have a back-up guitar just in case, but if I was forced to depend on just one guitar for a gig then I would be confident that this one would be up to the job. Only gets a '9' until Fender come up with unbreakable strings....

I've been playing for 30 years and this is as good as anything I have ever owned. I wish I liked Fenders more, but if you really are into Strats, then this is pretty much as good as it gets. Would I replace it if it was stolen? Yes - they're about #300 ($600)cheaper now!

I've played so many strats over the years I couldn't tell you how many.....this is by far the finest stratocaster I've ever played. These pickups are the best thing thats happened to Fender in a long long long time. They are dead quiet!!! From very cool vintage to new "Fendery" tones courtesy of the S-1 switch, this is the most versatile, yet true to the original strat ever made.

My guitar came to me right out of the box in perfect playing condition. Fret work was perfect, action was perfect, intonation was perfect, inlay work was perfect, finish was perfect. I've never bought a new guitar that came out of the box in such great condition. I always have to do some tweaking because these days it seems finish work isn't the highest priority of the major guitar manufacturers these days. This time I was thrilled to find out that Fender either made a mistake and did a great job on mine or they finally have so much pride in a stratocaster model that they are sending them out totally finished. I'm thinking it's the later, because Fender has made a fantastic strat this time.

I've been playing guitar since 1970. I own another strat, a 93 LP standard, Epi LP standard, ES-135, couple of Guild Jumbo's. I play mainly thru my Gibson Goldtone GA-30 RVS. The 2004 model of the American Deluxe strat is by far the finest strat made in decades. In my opinion it's better then most Custom Shop models I've played. The new SCM pups are a huge leap in single coil technology. These things are so quiet, so responsive. Fender really hit a homerun with this axe. The ash body and the tobacco finish are so beautiful I'm amazed. Gibson should take notes for their tobaccoburst finish! I haven't been this excited over a guitar since the Ford administration!! If this is the quality level that Fender is going to maintain from now on....all I can say is look out Gibson and PRS. If this axe was lost or stolen I'd have to hunt down and kill the bastard who stole it and then replace it IMMEDIATELY! Finally..the perfect strat!

5-way selector, locking tuners(schaller), vintage noisless pickups, for more specific descriptions check other posted reviews. personally I don't know what else you would need as far as features. More features is always better, and considering the fact that I have never imagined myself needing any other features I give it the full.

This is the PERFECT guitar for me. I play in a jazz band in highschool and don't take it to school,(i would cry a bucket if anything happened to it) but because of my expierences in jazz, i play a funky/jazzy/rock type of thing and find myself improvising solos constantly and i will never ever find a better sounding guitar than this one. If I do a cover song it is most likely A Red Hot Chili Peppers song and obviously john frusciante uses strats, so even then if fits perfectly. I find this guitar very versatile. It has a great clear and bright sound but comes across with a gorgeous full and rich tone.PERFECT. I Use 11's and could never see myself using a humbucker with pickups that sound as good as these. They are also silent.

when i got it from American musical supply (www.americanmusical.com great site for great prices and fast shipping) i took it out of the case plugged it in and began playing. IT WAS IN TUNE AND I PLAYED IT AS IT WAS(adjustment wise) FOR 1 YEAR BEFORE I RAISED THE STRINGS! the finish is beautiful. I have a 3 color sunburst with a maple neck.

I am finally in a band where we are about ready to start gigging. I am not worried about the durability of the guitar because i baby the hell out of it.( everyone should) i wipe it down (neck, body, strings, under the strings,) to get all the poopy feel off of it and everytime i pick it up the neck is so smooth, but i must admit that i am a bit conserned about getting sweat all over have to see it go through all those things that come along with playing live. Right now i am going to be spending my money on a mesa boogie nomad 100, but when i due build some money back up i will probably buy another one of these so i can have a backup and be less conserned about my guitar.

I have been playing guitar for 6 years but have been i music for 10 years.(started taking piano lessons when i was 5) I have played so many guitars and am confident that there is no guitar I would rather have.I own a martin acoustic/electric, a squire, and this guitar.(glad i found this early on instead of wasting money on worthless guitars) I might need to get another one for a backup but i don't even look at guitars when i go to a music shop anymore. I use this guitar with a tubescreamer (sparingly) through a fender deluxe90 amp. I am about to get a mesa boogie nomad 100 that sounds perfect to me with this guitar. i play guitar at LEAST 2 hours a day and am working on impovisation with my teacher( pain and the ass and nerve killing) but i love nothing more than playing this guitar

I recently aquired this quitar and it ahs all the standard features of a strat but with better versions of then. it has the 1 volume kbob and 2 tone dials and the 5 way pick-up selector. some more individual features are the strap locks with are a nice touch and locking machine heads. this help to give it a much more solid finish and the other components make it feel like you could throw it off a skyscaper and nothing would break. the only reason i didnt give it 10 was becasue there are some other features on similaly priced guitars which this one did not. on the other hand you dont by a strat for novalty features but its sound.

i have only been playing for about 3 years and when i went into the shop a felt so stupid with this guitar but when it was plugged in and turned on it sounded great. it really likes been turned but and the pick-ups are great. i do have a few conserns about them though. as alot of people say, both select 2 and 4 seem a bit dull compared to the others and really i hardly ever use them. also there seem to be alot of echo or spill. im not sure if its the body or the pick-ups yet? i may consider changing the pickups in the future but they will do just great for now. i love turning this guitar more than any i have played anywhere else. it nearly sings and the variation between the tones is great. the only thing that i would like would be a bit more grit/bass on the lower tones but a humber would sort that out. overall the sound is amazing and the the guitar is worth all i paid for it just for the sound.

As i said abouve the guitar sound is alone worth what i paid for it but the rest is also remarkable. when i first got the guitar it was set up perfectly (curtacy of Proffesional Music Technology Birmingham, i would highly recommed them to anyone) just the correct hight and the neck played like a dream. the pickups were also great. the top string may have been a bit harsh but no real trouble there. i also have to had it to fender, they sure know how to make beautiful looking guitars. mine has a maple neck with the aged cherry body.i love the way it looks and i get the same kick out of knowing that it is mine as i di from the first day i bought it.

i have had it for about a year know and have had no problems with it so far. in fact it seems to be getting better with age. as i said it is no that old but has taken a few fall and come out undamaged at all. the case also seems very sturdy and well constructed. i think the guitar was well put together and will last for a long time.

I haven't had any dealings with fender as off yet but hope it will be ok if i need to in the future.

Overall i love this guitar. i love the way it sounds and plays and i love the finish. so far for me personally i havnt played a guitar i like more. there are little things like the pick-up situation but all these things arent major and can be resolved easily. this is why i have given it a high score and remember:

early '99 US model. maple neck and fretboard, premium ash body & teal green transparent. aged plastic, the 'vintage noiseless' s/s/s setup. the 'normal' bridge.

in original condition it was kinda weak. i guess it's ok for blues and jazz and other bright styles but that wasnt for me. I'm into the old 80s style chord driven punk so i needed to beef up the sound. (poorly) installed a dimarzio super distortion which has gone microphonic but it sounds so good now and it plays sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo well. so much sustain, harmonics whenever i want them. i put it thru a 50w jcm800 so still sounds too chunky for me, but put it thru a gainier amp and it's all good. only dislike is that it's still a bit too 'bright' sometimes.

guitar wasnt set up at all when i got it, the strings were all loose and it had cork inbetween them and fretboard. leads me to believe that it was brought in by air. all the hardware was on tight as.. i only needed to tune it and it was all good. i set up truss rod and action to my likings. no buzz AT ALL! had it for years and no rust anywhere yet and i live near the aussie coast. finish and wood has gotten better with age. best guitar i'll ever own.

never had ANY problems with factory settings or electronics or anything. never had the hardware (bridge/tuning pegs/nut) cause string breakage. something's gone microphonic but that's because im too retarded to install a pickup properly. sounds ace, wood is beautiful(grain gets soooooo much better with age, and you literally CANNOT tell where the 2 pieces of wood join, they are matched THAT well).. i dropped it ages ago on the head, i think the truss rod bent slightly as most of the strings were resting on the 1st fret. wood didnt crack or anything. took it to tech and i guess it's sort of back to original, but the high e seems to be slightly out of place(finger keeps slipping off fretboard). ive dropped this thing so many times and smacked it against tables, metal bed frames, etc. only mild chips or scratches. if i did anything as bad to my other (not so!, since i actually paid for more them) cheapo guitars they'd disintegrate in my hands.

ive been playing on and off for about 10 years, got lessons for first 5. this is the best guitar i'll ever own, i'll never get anything to top it in quality and playability. you cant really tell quality when you go from a crap guitar to a good guitar but go the other way and you'll be shocked by just how bad mid priced axes play. you can always fix the sound but you cant add quality. as they say in the industry, you can always spraypaint shit gold, but it'll always be shit. only other guitar i ever see me getting is an old SG but that's to get a different sounding guitar. if it were stolen i'd get ... maybe sg for a change but probably the exact same axe from same period (late 90s, rather get a tried and tested axe than a brand new unknown one). given a choice i wouldve gotten the fat strat version of this but i probably wouldve changed the bridge pickup anyway. it totally craps all over my ibanez rg470 & peavey evh (american made too but no where near same quality).

My Strat is finished in a transparent aged cherry sunburst. It has no blemishes whatsoever because I made absolutely sure it was perfect before I bought it (I work in a main Fender dealer). It has locking tuners that don't slip at all and the vibrato has worked well up to now. It has a very heavy ash body and 3 single coil noiseless pickups (that aren't as noiseless as I thought they would be). Not sure if Fender's idea of downgrading the case to standard moulded was a good idea though. It detracts from the overall image.

It is the best guitar for the mid heavy, mild treble, bass to taste sound that I was after. I use it most for instrumental pieces and on the bridge pickup (with mild delay effects and distortion withtone control off on the box). A down side to the bridge pickup was that fender specified that it was wired "hot" for a fatter sound but it lacked that extra umph. Clean sounds it is thick and juicy, not overly bright or dull. I find that it works best for clean on the neck pickup and distortion on the bridge with the tone rolled to about 2.
I use this guitar for blues quite often as well so overall it has a large variety of sounds, provided you look hard enough to find them.

The guitar came straight from the factory and I was surprised how little work it needed doing to it. I lowered the action slightly to cater for my playing style and that was it. I had a choice and chose the best one of the lot. Fender do have a problem with creating the same quality throughout the instruments in the range but I luckily found one of the gems.

This guitar has withstood about a month ofgigging so far with a lot more to come and shows no sign of wear or damage. The one benefit of the locking tuners is that I can change strings between songs if I have brocken them. I would however use a backup just in case. It's not because of the guitar, just the fact that I have always done that.
Strap buttons are solid as a rock (unlike my last strat when they fell out.

Fender are always nice to me because I buy in bulk from them for the shop. If it needs repairing I'll do it. If it is a big job, then the professional guitar repairer next door will do it.

I have been playing for most of my life now and the guitar complements my set up very well. I play through a Marshall valvestate 100w combo for distortion and a 50w Fender Concert Reverb for clean. I use minimal pedals for my sound but do use a Boss DS-1 (tone off, distortion-5, level with amp) DD-6, CH-5, ls-2 and a dunlop crybaby. The guitar sounds great through each amp and effects and if it was stolen I would replace it without doubt. I chose it over a Gibson Les Paul Standard because it was a lot easier to play, it was lighter and cost #1000 less!

2003 Fender American Deluxe Strat Aged cherry , They like to use the word American even though it meens nothing to them. Fender seems to oversell the features so you overlook the quality.

Pickups are a little noisy.

I bought this guitar new and when I got it I noticed that it had a knot in the front of the premium ash body. Not to mention several cracks in the finish. I called Fender and there response was "its wood its going to have knots in it". I asked them if they would exchange it, and they told me no. I asked why and they told me that "I bought it that way, now its mine". I called my dealer and Fender would do nothing for him as well, but they said they would consider sending a new body if the tech thinks they should. Just what I wanted. To have my new 1800.00 guitar taken apart before I even get the chance to play it. I have no idea how this guitar passed there quality control, if they have any. Buyers be very careful when thinking about buying anything that Fender makes. It seems that all they want is your money. There warranty does not seen to be worth the paper it is written on, and there customer service is horrable. Border-line abusive.

Does not seem to be of very high quality for a guitar with such a high cost. Most of the hardware was loose and needed to be tightened.

BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD! I could keep on doing this all day and still be very honest, but my fingers are starting to get tired. They do not care at all about there customers, and have a tendency to talk down to them as well. Even some of the Fender techs that I talked to about this problem agreed, and had some not so nice things to say about the company as a whole.

If Fender were the only guitar maker in the world I would learn to make my own. The quality of ther products continues to get worse and the prices keep going up. Buyer beware!JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK! They don't stand behind anything they make and there warranty is not worth the paper it is written on. Maybe they need a course in customer serice, becuase they have none. Built in the USA! The only thing that means to them is more profit. Explotation of America at its best.

2002 model, Corona USA, all the other stuff that comes as standard with this top notch guitar. I love the locking Schaller tuners here, nice touch! Came with a top case, cable, strap etc. Love it. Oh and the vintage noiseless pickups are awesome!

I play mainly Bon Jovi stuff, with a little Eric Clapton thrown in for good measure (Richie Sambora quotes Clapton as being an influence on his playing!) I am using it currently with a Marshall DSL100 head and cabs, with just a Boss Chorus pedal for a broader sound. The sound is superb, blows my Yamaha RGX121 totally out of the water! The sound is obviously spot on for Jovi and Clapton, and I am sure it can do more, I just haven't experimented that much

Cannot fault Fenders set up at all. Superb. I had a broken string when i got it, but that was soon replaced. Nice one guys!

Live playing? I should damn well think so, it is a Fender! The hardware is top spec and should last forever. My guitar came with Schaller strap locks, but the buttons seem up to the job. One thing is though, I respect my strat, so i shall not be jumping 3 feet in the air with it!!! Definitely gig with a back up however, you just never know what lies around the corner!

Never dealt with Fender so far, so no opinion I am afraid!

I've been playing for a year or so now, and this is my second guitar, my other being a Yamaha RGX121. I would be devastated if this were stolen, and would hunt down the bastard theif and......(I won't say any further as what is in my mind is HIGHLY illegal!)

what can i say, its beutiful...its my first professional guitar, i have been using an ibanez s720, which is absolutly nothing compaired to the great workmanship of an american guitar, none other than the one and only Fender. Mine is Aged Cherry Burst, which is flawlessly polished and buetiful...

well, it really depends on what your into, if you like metal id stick with the ibanez, if you like anthiny from blues to jazz to rock. this is a 100% perfect axe. my main passion is the blues..which it is flawless, i mean nothihng can be PERFECT but this thing is so damn close. exspecially with that 4 pickup posistion its so crystal clear.. i like this thing because with most guitars, the harder you strum, the more distorted/muddy it gets, but i feel with the American Deluxe, the harder you play, the more sound you get out of it. all in all this guitar is flawless

the neck is as smooth and silk, you can just slide and slide and slide, the strings are set on the neck, basically there is no limit in string bending. i gave it a nine because when i brought it home the g string was a bit twangy and my d string rang, but that was easily fixed wiht my free warrenty setup.

1999 American Deluxe Strat with crimson transparent finish. This is the usual Strat except for a little more pride on the workmanship. Except for the bridge saddles, this comes with the usual pathetic crap parts that are classic Fender. It has locking tuners, but unfortunately they are made with the same quality as most other Fender parts, s--t. Pots are very poor quality with that cheap action feel of a $29.95 pawn shop special. This one had already been "upgraded" with American Standard pickups when I bought it. I did receive the better case which is tolex covered instead of the usual piece of molded plastic junk that is standard. Bridge saddles may be stainless steel and are very highly polished. Mine has a rosewood fretboard with small but very pretty abalone position markers which reflect beautifully in the light. Do not pay full price for one of these. They are worth no more than the current online auction prices.

This guitar produces a warm perfectly balanced tone in clean and high gain conditions. There will be some single coil hiss in extreme high gain conditions, but remember mine has American Standard pickups and not the noiseless/toneless ones. Every position on the pickup selector is excellent and the sound from each pickup configuration is quite different thus allowing this guitar to be a jack of all trades. It's not the best choice for hard edge stuff, but it will suffice if you only want to bring one guitar to the gig.

I bought mine used and the action and setup were mucho bad. Neck pocket has small gap on both sides, about the thickness of one to two business cards. Forward bow measured 14 thousandths, action was high and pickups were so close to the strings that the magnets were pulling the strings stiff causing premature note decay and fade out. Truss rod was tight and required special treatment to straighten the neck. I removed the strings, placed guitar on the floor between my legs, then first loosened the truss rod and then while applying pressure on the back of the neck with my knee and pulling backward on the head stock with my left hand, I turned the truss rod nut clockwise fairly easily. After considerable effort, neck relief adjusted to about 9 thousandths. Action and intonation came to specs quickly and the guitar plays great now. Stringtree is slightly misplaced on mine and rides cockeyed when the guitar is strung. Nut and fretwork are very nice, especially for Fender.

I have owned and been playing Fender guitars since 1965 and I trust them to perform without falling apart. This strat looks solid and with the exception of the sorry, pure junk for tuners, it will outlast most of the competition. The tuners are Fender/Schaller, I think, and they loosen up continuously and will screw you on stage in a live playing situation. If you want one of these guitars, buy it used so you can afford to put tuners on it that work.

I have dealt with Fender several times over the years on minor issues and they have been very kind and helpful and I would not hesitate to contact them if the situation called for it.

I am a working club musician. I own 7 guitars, Fender, Carvin, Hondo, and Westone. I play tube amps on stage, but own a solid state amp as well. I do not regret buying this guitar, but I am glad I did not spend any more than I did. Fender guitars are not overpriced, but there is no need for poor musicians to pay any more than absolutely neccessary for professional equipment. If this strat had decent tuners, I would say it is an exceptional buy used, but it is at the upper end of Fender's quality spectrum and still comes with a few junk parts. Overall, this guitar has the Fender sound, look, and feel and that trumps everything else. They remain the best instrument available in the world for the modern rocker and anything in between.

Made in 2001 Corona, CA. Alder Black body with maple neck and abalone dot inlays. Three Vintage-Noiseless single coil pickups, 5-way blade switch, 1 volume, 2 tone controls with TBX. American Deluxe Tremelo with locking Schaller tuning machine heads.

Wonderful full bright sound. This is what the sparkle and snap from these new pickups produce. SRV and Slowhand are easily found within the tonality of this instrument. More power than the American Standard Strat single-coil, which I owned a new '91 model. As soon as I heard this I went home and traded the AmerStand for this and have had no regrets since. I have had a Japanese made Fender from the '80s as well and neither of them compared to this.

All of the electronics have been fine from day one, no issues unlike my previous Strats. The satin neck finish is an improvement over what was used on my '91 along with nicer dressing of the frets. Fender sprays the entire maple neck front to back with the frets prior installed before applying this coating. After 9 months of use the satin finish begins to flake off of the frets, which is understandable under metal to metal contact with the strings. Sadly 9s are standard kit and I have since moved to 10s resulting in a neck adjustment and the intonation/action changes.

Fender has not only made cosmetic improvements with the Amer Deluxe, but have added hardware improvements which should hold up such as the new tremelo which has a snap-in arm. Prior designs had a small spring which required trem arm socket hole to be taped up if the arm wasn't installed. This model stays in tune much longer than prior Strats I have played with the combination of heavier strings, a forth spring added to the tremelo and the Schaller locking tuners.

Web site has provided decent information regarding set-up and care. Wiring diagrams also listed which is useful if something required replacement.

I currently own a Gibson ES-137 Classic, PRS CE22 with tremelo and the American Deluxe Strat. Current rig includes a Boss GT-6, Ibanez DS9, Jim Dunlop Wah, Fender Deluxe 90 DSP and an Ultimate Chorus DSP. Played through everything, including a loaned Mesa Boogie and other tube amps...the Strat sounds fantastic. For the price this is a great machine. For workmanship the PRS is better (including the trem which stays in tune more), but its also another $1000. The Fender has a destinctive sound which the PRS fails to meet as it is a little bit Strat and a little bit Les Paul (I owned a Gary Moore model and played them side-by-side).

I won't go into detail about what this guitar has and hasn't got becouse everyone else has said it ofr me countless times. It's your quintessential strat basically. It looks classic, the finish is beautiful (mine's the teal green transparent finish, the nicest finish I've seen on a relatively standard strat) and it's got the nice little touches such as locking tuners, twin-point floating pivot tremelo and abalone inlays. All in all it's got all you need really. Some could comment that you can't get that classic strat tone due to the "noiseless" pick-ups but this guitar sounds lovely in it's own right. If you want classic strat tone, buy a classic strat.

The sound of this guitar is far beyond the reaches of any other instrument that I've owned. But on the other hand, I've owned a Epiphone Les Paul, Yamaha Pacifica 112, Hohner Rockwood LX90 and a Stagg strat copy so there's nothing to worry even a mexican strat there. Except maybe the Yamaha because that's a great guitar but I'll save that for another review. I used to play for a Pink Floyd tribute band and obviously this guitar fits the bill perfectly for Gilmour stylee sounds. I can't really say a bad word against it. It makes all the sounds I have ever needed to make. The only thing it does struggle with is really HARD rock, I'm talking down-tuned about 3 octaves, dark-ass metal. But strats have never pretended to be metal axes. I can use my pacifica quite happily for metal madness. Although I soon plan to purchase Either a Cort or a Carvin PRS-style axe for metal duties. Anyway, back to the strat... sounds pretty damn good to me.

Set-up is fabulous, no quibbles with anything there. I've had the guitar for nearly 3 years now and the only problem I've had is a squeeky nut on the G string when the tremelo is moved. But that seems to have cured itself with a clean up and a new set of strings.

It's very well finished all round although the Urethane coating on the fretboard started peeling away a fair while ago. Just through heavy use i guess. It hasn't affected the tone or playability so I'm not bothered. That's it Very nice overall.

I played this guitar live regularly for a good year or two and like i say i played Gilmour stuff and although he's not known for being a guitar torturer, he certainly does give it some on a few of the solos. It's stood up to the trials of wailing solos very well indeed. I snapped a string once mid-song (very embarrassing) but that was clearly not the guitars fault because it has not happened since. Since that occured i always took my pacifica for backup but, i never needed it. Not once. The finish is still as lovely as ever, even with my sweat and tears all over it.

None of the fittings that quite often work loose have done so as far as i can remember. I.e. the input socket, strap buttons etc. It's all been fine.

Never had to deal with Fender themselves, which can only be a good thing i guess. The guitar has never given be reason to contact them.

All you can say is this guitar looks gorgeous, plays really well and sounds the bollocks, whatever you chuck it through. It's lovely. It's not perfect but unless you're paying silly money you won't find a perfect guitar. In fact you probably never will. Too many variables involved. But All in all, this guitar is great.

2003 Candy Tangerine model. 22 frets, 5 way switching system, Vintage Noiseless pickups, aged ivory hardware, silver Fender inlay on headstock, etc. The sculpted heel is my favorite feature of this guitar so far (surprised that nobody has really mentioned it).

I wish that the "Deluxe" model would have some more deluxe features, such as a midboost and possibly an updated TBX system, but that's just me. I give it a solid 8.

I mostly play Les Pauls or other Gibsons. However, when I saw King Crimson at the Town Hall in NYC, I had to have a Strat; Adrian Belew was getting AWESOME tones out of his, and well, you have to start somewhere (before the synths and the like!).

I've had the guitar for a while now, so I feel like I can assess its faults and praise its positives properly:

Neck: Great neck. I LOVE that it is smooth and unfinished. The fingerboard is almost as smooth as the ebony boards on my Les Pauls. The guitar comes stock with Schaller locking tuners, which is great because I use the vibrato bar a lot....some deluxes come with a roller nut, but mine came with bone. I guess I lucked out there. The Fender Stratocaster silver inlay on the headstock is a VERY nice touch; looks very classy.

Body: Man, this color is badass. This has to be my favorite looking strat ever. Candy Tangerine against aged ivory and chrome hardware. Very unique, but also very classy at the same time. The added straplocks were a nice touch, as was the leather-nylon-reinforced strap. The sculpted heel is a long overdue feature for Fender Strats. The one on this guitar makes playing in the upper registers so easy and painless....and they still managed to bolt the neck on with 4 screws.

Hardware/Pickups: The vibrato system is supposed to be a brand new system for Fender, as it was completely redesigned from the ground up. I really don't know much about the "new" and "improved" features of it, but all I know is that the guitar stays in tune almost all of the time, even with heavy vibrato bar use. The vibrato system itself is very smooth and controllable. The bar slides in and out of the hole; no screwing in here. The only beef that I have with it is that there seems to be no way to adjust the tension of the bar that I've found. The bar is way too loose for my tastes, and falls out sometimes. I'm hoping that there is a way, and that I just haven't found it yet. The pickups sound great clean, but harsh when overdriven. I'm not running this full bore with a Dual Rectifer trying to play Nu-metal, either. Just a little bit of drive to help the sound take off at times. I haven't decided what I'm going to replace them with, but the replacements have to be noiseless now; I'm completely spoiled by the current pickups that are.

I had the guitar set up with DR Tite-fits in 10's. It plays like a dream. The finish is so beautiful, and I went over it with a fine tooth comb: not ONE imperfection in the finish. Usually, you'll find a tiny nick in the paint underneath the clearcoat on every guitar out there. Not here, nothing but a perfect finish.

Everything feels and sounds great so far. I don't have a problem yet.

I've played countless strats, and this one seems to be one of the most solid ones that I've played. I wish that I had another for a backup, but that's just a dream right now. Very solid construction.

I've never dealt with them. I've heard great stories about them, and I've heard horror stories too. I really don't have an opinion here.

I've been playing for several years. I own a '78 Les Paul Custom Silverburst, a '69 Les Paul Custom Black Beauty, a Flying V, and a highly modified Ibanez JS100 (almost nothing stock on it now). I play with a modified 5150 II head into a Mesa Boogie Rectifier 4x12 Standard, and a Marshall 1959SLP reissue into a 1960TV cabinet, both at the same time. TONS of pedals, too. If it was stolen, I'd have to hunt it down again, simply because I can't afford another one. I love the sculpted heel and the locking tuners. The pickups are too harsh when pushed, though. I wish that it had a midboost and possibly an updated TBX system, but I digress. Overall, its a great instrument and the one strat for me after researching and playing countless ones. I give it a solid 9.

All the features have been listen about 300 times, but mines a Red Crimson finish, 22 frets, 5 way switch, rosewood fretboard, vintage noiseless pickups, locking tuners, strap locks, S/S/S, good-old USA made obviously

The sound with the S/S/S, 5 way switch, and tone dial alone give this guitar pretty much any sound you want. Great for blues, jazz, rock....you name it, it plays it. The noiseless pickups are incredible, dead quiet unless you pluck a string.

Action came great, not too close, not too far. Pickups were almost perfect, and intotation was good as well. I got it set up anyway, just because I wanted the action a little bit lower. There were no flaws with this guitar, it was just an amazing buy.

This guitar withstands ALL. It is a brick house. Ive accidently knocked it a few times and it has yet to recieve the smallest ding. Everything is just solid through and through. I would feel comfortable gigging without a back up.

I owned a Ibanez JS100 previous to this, and the Strat just blows it away. Great sound, great feel, incredibly comfortable and versatile. If it was stolen or broken, I'd buy another one without hesitation.

This is a brand new 2003 Lefty Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster in Aged Cherry Burst Transparent with a gorgeous Maple neck and Rosewood fingerboard. It has all of the standard American Deluxe Features, well outlined here on this board. It is a beautiful, beautiful, and heavy (mine is the Ash body) solid instrument. Professional all the way.

This guitar is PERFECT for my style of playing (Blues, Rock, R&B, Funk). I am using it with a Fender Hot Rod 4X10 combo, and a Pod Pro, and Mod Pro through a Behringer 2X10 Ultratwin. The "Noiseless" pickups are indeed noiseless. It sounds like a Stratocaster, and that's all it needs to do.

Absolutetly unbelievable finish, mirror bright, and looks durable. This guitar is the heaviest Strat I have ever held in my arms. Lots of meat and resonant wood here. Nicely grained Ash solid body. This guitar was set up perfectly right out of the box. Pickups were set perfectly, intonation was right on. Most impressive was the neck. It is a work of art. The fretwork is smooth as silk. You can grab the neck like a handle and run your hand up and down and it is silky smooth. This is not always the case with some MIM strats, and a few American Standard Strats, also. No finish flaws, no mistakes, just Strat Heaven.

This thing would survive use as a battering ram, no kidding. It is solid throughout.

Never any problems with Fender, or dealers I use.

I have been playing since I was 7 years old, and I am 47 this year. I have owned at least a dozen different stratocasters. I have an American Standard in Black, a MIM Sunburst, a Jazz Bass, a Yamaha Bass, an ESP LTD MV200, a Taylor 310 CE, a Fender DG31-LH. This guitar is the culmination of my lifetime with the Stratocaster -- the best guitar I have ever owned; a perfect example of american craftmanship.

I think mine is a 1999 model because it came with the nicer rectangular hard case. It is an alder one with the 3-color sunburst and has the rosewood fretboard. It has locking Sperzels too.

It suits my music style perfectly, since I love the early Dire Straits Mark Knopfler kind of tone. I play it clean through a Mesa Boogie Mark 1 Reissue with a compressor and a bit of overdrive. It is quiet as can be, which is great since I never liked Fenders before because of that single coil hum nonsense. It is not the most versatile guitar in the world; then again, that basic Strat tone is one of the most distinctive and yummy guitar sounds known to mankind.

I bought the guitar slightly used and the set-up was crappy. Not Fender's fault though. However, there is a fairly noticeable burr on one of the frets (big enough that the string gets hung up on it) and to my mind that is just inexcusable for an instrument like this, so 3 points deducted there. The rest of the guitar is a work of art -- as nice as any of the Tom Andersons I have tried, for example.

This guitar can easily take a lot of punishment, including live playing, as the material and hardware etc is premium quality. I don't really care if the finish wears off through use -- that looks cool -- but I doubt that would happen with the more modern finishes. The thing also comes stock with locking strap holders. Very nice.

All of this is N/A because I bought it used. I live in a major city and if I can't find someone here to work on a Strat of all things, then the whole world is screwy.

I have been a hacker guitar enthusiast for many years. I have owned other products by Fender and several other manufacturers for that matter. Aside from maybe spending a bit more time fixing up the frets, I can't see how a custom shop Fender Strat could be any improvement on this guitar, since it is basically a modernized Strat made from top-notch materials and with all of the old design flaws corrected. If stolen or lost, I would buy it again but it might be difficult at the cheap price I bought this one for.

2000 left handed model. Made in Corona California. 21 frets with a maple neck and sunburst(what other color is there for a Strat?) finish. 1 volume, 1 tone, 5 way switch(3 single coils) It comes with sperzel locking tuners and schaller straplocks (nice touch). The bridge is a floating tremolo and a pop-in trem arm. The plastic parts are aged and the hardware is a very classy looking silver finish. Came with hardshell case, a strap(cheapy) and a 10ft. fender instrument cable.

I ahve been playing this guitar for almost 2 years now. I hate it when someone reviews a guitar 1-2 months after they got it. Who doesn't like it while its still new? It has the traditional strat sound with one exception. With the noiseless pick-ups, it is incredibly quiet. If you like the strat sound(and I do!), you will love the sound on this guitar. I give it a 9, because of it's lack of versatility, I really idin't expect that from this guitar, but it might have been nice to do a little more sounds from it.

Here's hwere you get your money's worth. THIS GUITAR IS PERFECTLY FINISHED. It is by far the best from the factory set-up guitar I have ever owned. You won't believe the fret work done on this thing. The finish is absolutely beautiful. I would recommend the sunburst although, I've seen the transparent crimson and was really impressed with the wood grain you could see throughthe finish. Great Job Fender!

I ahve been gigging hard with this thing since I got it. I play with a Christina Rock band and we see alot of audience participation on stage. This guitar has taken a couple of spills and alot of hard miles in an equipment trailer and it is holding up great. I've never had it fail me yet and have been playing without a back-up until recently. I've added a Jazz style guitar to my line-up on stage to get that sound covered on some songs.

Haven't had to deal with them.

I just purchased a Music Man Silhouette(lefty) and thought I might put down my strat, but it hasn't happened. I am in love with the thin strat sound and can only get it from a strat. I also own an Alsion Dane Jazz 335 and a Guild D25 accoustic/electric. I gig with a Digitech GNX1 and a Vox wah pedal(don't like the digitech wah effect) and play through a Deville 212 amp. The strat sounds great directly in the amp, and partners with my Vox wah like no ohter guitar I own. I live this guitar and wouldn't try to make it without it. I've done alot of trading(mex.strat, De Armond M55T, Dean EVO SS) and I haven't gotten the urge to trade this guitar and probably won't. The only thing I wish I had done, is try to buy it used. I am amazed at the way prices drop on a used guitar-even one with little play. The music store matched the mail order prices and that's all I can ask, but I hate to see some of these going so cheap used. They are woth every penny.

I play anything and everything and this guitar is amazing unless you are looking for a steve vai, joe satriani kinda sound. Great for blues, jazz, classic rock, modern rock, almost anything. I use a Marshall AVT 50 on the clean channel. Boss DS1 distortion and Boss Xtortion pedal are used for gain, boss phaser shifter and auto-wah used for modulation. guitar sounds real nice through DS-1 distortion pedal. NO NOISE AT ALL. Pickups are crazy good they have a huge variety of tones that you can get, bascially to fit any sound. huge variety. good sustain, really good versitile guitar, highly recommend

Factory setup was ok, had to set action lower but truss rod was perfect. Pickups needed to be raised a little bit to get some extra sound. Finish is gorgeous, cant say enough about it, the 3 tone sunburst is amazing. Frets are smooth and polished and rosewood neck is very smooth.

Lifetime guarentee but only applies to certain things. HAvent had problems yet so hey, customer supports pretty damn good

great guitar , versitile, beautiful, and sounds better then it looks, great for players of all ages and experiences.

US made Strat, 22 fret, noiseless p/u's, alder slab, satin urethane on neck, cheap gloss urethane on black. Mint green parts and pickguard. Locking tuners.
Neck is maple, flat and wide, decent action. Jumbo frets. Came in a standard case.

The voltage and resistance on the pickups was reversed. Higher on the neck than on a bridge. No sustain, even with a compressor and a Marshall AVT. Yeah, it's noisless, because they EM field in the pickups is totally screwed up. I'll explain.

I investigated the electrical/sound problem, and removed the pickguard, and then neck and found two NIGHTMARES. I can't believe this was a $1200 guitar. It had 7 EXTRA HOLES drilled in the neck and the body cavity, two of the holes were 3/4" by 1/2" deep, one in the neck pocket. And the cavities for the pickups were setup for HUMBUCKERS, not single coils. The cavities on Strats should only be as wide as the pickups, and the wire raceway <1/2", not 3/4". It's like it came with a half slab! Shaller locking tuners...so what? If you know how to string a Strat, you don't need them. Pickups were set at 4/64". Noiseless are dummy HB's...you don't set them that high. I reset them for 8/64" and got a little more sustain. I took a magnifying glass to the frets..."superior fret and nut work." Give me a break. Half of them were burred.

Extra holes in the neck pocket...how is the guitar going to with stand any stress? It goes out of tune easily, even with "locking tuners.!" That's because the slab and neck pocket are all screwed up!

I called Musician's Friend. Said they'll pass it on. I had to wait for this piece of junk. Warranty? You've got to be kidding.

Played for a while now, returned to an old hobby. But I've had a $400 Washburn BT-2 and an Ebay special $100 T-style Johnson that sounded better than this thing. I have a '60's Classic Sunburst Strat with Texas Pickups (you need a noise gate) that is a superb guitar. The workmanship of the Mexican guitars is far superior to the Custom Shop, if this was any regular example of their carelessness. A waste of money, DON'T BUY ONE!!! Get a Mexican job and just load it with better pickups. and save yourself $500, enough for a decent practice amp. I ditching this "Deluxe" piece of junk.

Fender american dlx. stratocaster, made in California in 2000.
the guitar is like any other USA made stratocaster but with some improvments: regular strat body style, 22 frets, 3 "vintage noiseless" (s\s\s) pickups (which have no noise at all!), 5-way selector, 1 volume control, 2 tone contrlos, alder body, maple neck & fingerbord with abalone inlays (very comfortable!), 2 point locking tremolo with pop up arm (very nice!), Schaller locking machine heads (which works perfectley!), aged white plastic parts (which gives the guitar a vintage look). my guitar has a beautiful crimson tranperant finish which looks very nice.
the guitar also included hardshell case with a PL cable, cotton rag, leather strap with schaller straplocks and a few allen keys.

i play the guitar through a Marshall AVT 50 and a Marshall sv1 chorus. the guitar sounds great through this amp, espeacially on the clean channel.
i play & listen mostley to classic rock - deep purple, hendrix, shadows, rainbow & etc. the guitar suit this style excelent, but i play also some blues, jazz & shreds and the guitar fits this styles too.
the guitar sounds fabouls on the clean channel with the chorus, and on the dirty channel i can get sounds that are very similar to Jimi's sounds on the bridge pickup, and even similiar sounds to Gilmor's sound with the neck pickup.

the guitar has an excelent setup and the finish of the body & neck is great.

the guitar once felt from the stand & i thought i'll gonna suicide but NOTHING happend to her! not even a scratch! besides of it there is nothing that'll gonna break\crack.

I got with the guitar a warranty for a year, but when the warranty will end i'll dont take the guitar to the shop i bought her (kley zemer) because i heard they are'nt ver profesional with fixing & etc.

I play for 4 years and besides the star i also own an Epiphone Les Paul std (which i'll sell perhaps).
I don't think i'll replace this guitar, and I sure that if it'll be stolen or lost, i'll do EVERYTHING to get it back.

2001,USA, 22 frets,5-way,s/s/s vintage noiseless,natural ash, maple neck,strat,locking,molded case,leather strap.

the sound of the vintage noiseless to me is more tempered and has a tonal roundness that is different from most fenders, but i have come to love it.perfect quiet. it's classy and tasteful, upscale.

two words: ron kayfield. the former waysted guitar icon is a genius and maestro of set-up. this guitar has been thoroughly worked by him and has a custom shop feel. it is inspiring and i hope to play up to its level.

playing since '69. korina telecaster, cutomized sambora, godin a-6,
martin, et al.marshall, the usual suspects. if lost, i'd seriously consider replacing, but only with ron's set-up.the look is fantastic, the natural ash is stunning, the in-lays are nearly spiritual. my favorite thing about it is that it is constantly surprising for what it can do and sound like. yes, i am a fender nut but i'm no dope and this is a terrific guitar.

See through blonde......maple neck, replaced the pickguard witha 57 PG, and replaced the locking tuners with vintage Klusons, also added a passive Fishman bridge...controlled by/wired to the second tone pot.
Wonderfully playable neck profile.

Crystal clear noiseless...vintage sound.....an equal to anything the custom shop puts out.

Perfect......new...perfect now.

A beautiful instrument,,,looks like a custom 57 reissue with the mods I installed, and added tone combinations with the Fishamn bridge.
