Mexican Deluxe Double Fat Strat, 2 Tex-Mex hb's, Floyd Rose tremolo, Rosewood fretboard, 5 way switching, including coil taps in position 2 & 4, big headstock. Mine is white w/black pickguard

Sound : 9
Very versatile. I play lots of country, blues, rock & christian rock. This guitar gives me lots of options in one package. I use a Fender Blues Junior through a Vox ToneLab LE processor. I generally don't use the amp modeling on the ToneLab, using it mainly for the pedal, delay and reverb modeling. However, using the amp modeling gives me the opportunity to see how this guitar would sound through many different amps. I've read that the pickups are noisey, but I've not experienced this outside of position 4 (front single coil) which would be pretty normal for a Fender Tex-Mex single coil. The Floyd Rose trem helps maintain proper tuning, however, like any guitar, temp and humidity, in addition to proper trem/spring balance will drastically affect tuning. Once you get used to the Floyd system, stringing is no more difficult than any other strat. I like the versatility this guitar affords, rockin' on the bridge HB, quacking in position 2, good balanced rhythm in pos 3, full bore strat blues in pos 4, and nice creamy overdrive in pos 5. I've considered changing pickups (which I do regularly), but every time I play this, I like it the way it is.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Factory setup was just that, factory setup. As soon as you put a different gauge string on, you'll need to reset some. I accept that as a normal part of guitar ownership, and pretty much reset every guitar I get anyway. Truss rod, bridge height, trem springs, pickup height, etc. Every time. I set them up the way I like it, regardless of the way they do it down in Mexico.
All hardware was in new condition with no problems.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I use this guitar regularly for live playing, practice, lessons, etc. The only problem I've ever had is that occasionally I'll get the 1st string hooked under the lip of the front Humbucker (operator induced). Probably because I bend so much, and I might have the pickups a little close to the strings. No fault of the design or Fender. The poly finish is very tough. I've had this guitar for 5 years, and have on little bitty ding on the top (don't even know how I did it). I have tightened the strap buttons a few times, but I see that as normal maintenance. Same for the input jack. I generally use a backup (especially on floating tremolo guitars, where if you break a string, your tuning is out the window), but last night I used it at church with no backup, no worries. My only nag with this guitar is the tendency for the trem arm to loosen up too much. When it hangs too loose, I get some rattles, so I tighten it back up.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No opinion, I do all my own setup, modifications and repairs. No repairs ever needed on this guitar

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 40 years. I currently have over 20 guitars. Strats, Teles, Les Paul, Fernandez etc. I love the feel of a Strat. I like the versatility of the 5 way switching with 2 humbuckers. I like the stability of the Floyd Rose trem system. If it were lost or stolen, I would definately try to replace it. My favorite overall part of this guitar is how well it works for all of the types of music I play. I only give up the option for a single coil at the bridge, but hey, that's what the Teles are for, right? This guitar is a little heavier than most of my others, but it's very comfy to play live, where I might be standing with it for up to 2 hours at a time. The Tex-Mex/Deluxe line is a VERY good value, and I'm at home playing this guitar as much as any other I've ever had. Some of my bandmates rate this as their favorite guitar that I play (sound, features, versatility), and they're playing Gibsons & Paul Reed Smiths.

This guitar looks AWSOME if u get the orange with the black pick gaurd. i dont know what year it was made but i got it 2002 or 2003. It was made in mexico. its got 21 frets. its got a volume nob, 2 tone nobs and a 5 way selector switch. The pickup configuration is two passive tex-mex humbuckers which can go single coil. The Neck is rosewood. i dont know what the finish is but its really awsome and perfect in my opinion. The body style is a strat but its not skinny like other strats its kinda fatter and heavier. The brige style is just fender hardware and the tuners are non locking. The neck is kinda fat but its not bad. It comes with a gig back.

Sound : 3
the pickups sound like shit. they do. its awful. I play metal and classic rock. If u raise the pickup closer to the strings, it starts to sound DECENT and gets a little bit of a punch but nothing special. The amp i use is a marshall 50 wat. The sound is really just annoying and the only thing its good for is punk. If u raise the pickups they buzz like shit and its awful. I like the variety of each different thing on the selector. If you get this guitar put in some better pickups. I put in the seymour duncan EVH and it sounds insaneley awsome get them if u want a cool sounding guitar that looks awsome.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar was set up GREAT at the factory. The pickups sound like shit so just change them when u get the guitar. there are no flaws on the guitar its just awsome.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar for some reason doesnt go out of tune... ever unless u have different gages of strings at the same time. The hardware is really durable. The finish hasnt been worn down at all sinse i got it and i play everyday for like 4 hours. The strap buttons are alright but tighten them when they come lose. you can totally depend on this gutar its awsome and if u did a gig with this guitar, u wont need a backup ive done plenty of gigs and no probelms unless a string breaks which hasnt happend to me.

the warenty was like a year so get the extended warenty. i was to stupid to so i have to pay 50 bucks to get it cleaned.

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing for 3 years but im not like a shitty 3 year guitarist i play gigs and shit all the time and i know about guitars. When i bought this guitar i was unaware that they made the same thing with a floyd rose. if i knew i would have gotten it. If it were stolen or lost, id probobly get something else because i dont have a lot of money to just get another one of these id save up for somethin better or custom made for me. When comparred to other guitars it kicks the shit outa anything and its value is awsome for what it can do. I love everythign about it accept the tex-mex pickups. My favorite thing about it is its so easy to play. Its like butter in ur fingers. I chose this guitar cuz it looked insane and all the features it had were awsome. I wish mine had a floyd rose.

its a fender stratocaster w/ 2 texmex humbuckers, black w/ rosewood fretboard. string through bridge. blah blah blah.....u probably know what it is if ur reading this.

Sound : 7
My style? punk rock, heavey kinda shit, metal sometimes, ska, emo even when im in the mood. i got a marshall 4102 100watt 2x12 combo. i dont use FX pedals. i like the way it sounds, the guitar that is. the pickups are kinda different sounding. if ur into anything w/ distortion it'll most likley get her done.
the clean is f'in nice especially the neck position. im not even a fan of clean sounds but this sounds really good. the bridge pickup is the overdrive pickup but it sounds nice clean. this bitch sounds good when u play a bar chord cuz u get to hear every string.
it sounds good when i crank the gain all the way up on my amp but theres not much sustain as i wish there was. im thinkin about replacing the pickups with emg's or something hardcore like that. i gotta find the money and ambition first tho.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
i bought it new so it was in good shape. nice action, not the best ive ever played, which was my friends dads BC RICH (only 100 made and he got one, it says "mockingbird" on it). its good action tho i'd say. i noticed after i bought it one of the pickup positions was shorting, but thats easily fixed. no biggie. i dont really use that position anyways so i'll procrastinate on fixing it. the finish is nice but it gets marked up easily. keepin it cleans a real bitch.

Reliability/Durability : 8
it'll defently withstand a gig. the hardwares decent. its mexican made so it dosent get the best fender parts. i like the american series hardware cuz that shit is rugged compared to this stuff. the finish is nice cept for the fact u hafta clean it off often. the black gets fingerprints on it easly and looks like shit after just alittle bit of playing it. i'd use it w/o a backup at a gig but thats me. i got ballz.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never delt w/ em but i bet its ok

Overall Rating : 9
im only 17 and have been playing guitar for about 4 or 5 years now. im no hendrix or anything; more like a tom delong. its a good axe. i was saving up for a gibson sg but i sprung and bought this thing for like half the price. im not dissapointed w/ it. its a fender stratocaster and the bottom is u cant go wrong with a strat. u can play most anything with em. with the 2 humbuckers, this thing's made for rock. and with the marshall i run it through, u can rock. if i was to buy another stratocaster id get the American series double fat strat, w/ the S-1 switching.

I don't know what year my guitar was made, I got it Spring Break(April or May I think), 2003. It has 21 Medium-Jumbo frets. One piece body as it is a Fender. Has a 5 way selector and a volume and 2 tones(one for each pickup).
I plan to upgrade this guitar with a button that allows me to get the 2 farthest single coils of the humbucker and a single coil on the bridge, then I will have extreme versatality. Like an Sg or Les paul crossed with a strat/tele. I especially like the 4th position of the pickup selector, which allows me to get a single coil on the neck, I use it for all my mellow single string and a good amount of gritty or clean rhythm
The Tex-Mex pickups sound good, they are more telesounding with my overdrive settings and single coil modeling, but have their own unique sound as well.
Active/Passive electronics? Don't know the difference, probably passive though.
The neck is maple while the fretboard is rosewood. The body is alder. I don't use the vibrato bar at all, so a Vintage Bridge is pretty useless to me. I had my Allanoke guitar guy adjust the screws of the bridge internally so it stays in tune and does not float, it is flat against the guitar. The vibrato is still usable though.
Stratocaster body of course. The tuners I hear aren't that great, but it stays in tune for days with some beaten down new strings. As the strings get older, you need to tune after playing heavy for a few hours. The neck has a nice C shape and is very fast. It is a 9 right now without the pickup switching button I am going to add, but after I will rate it a 10, so on the page I will put 10.

Sound : 10
It suits my style perfectly. I do Emo,Screamo,Punk,Indie Rock, and some old school. Nothing heavy really. It can do that, but if you want a chunky metal sound, don't destroy the Fender name with your dumb teen antiques, go get an Ibanez(hahahah) or a B.C. Rich Warlock(gayest guitar ever) I am 16 by the way, but too mature than metal.
I like the tonal versatality alot. I use a fender dynatouch deluxe 90 watt solid state with full DSP effects. It sounds good clean, but the amp has a horrible overdrive as most solid states do. I get awesome overdrives and distortions from pedals and plan to get a boss me-50 soon or a tone bone classic overdrive(you can't beat an all tube pedal) It sounds great with any effects too. I use phase, flanger, delay, and reverb a good amount. It is not noisey at all, I can do a tight high gain on my rp100 Digitech pedal(good and bad pedal) with no feedback. The single coil position only has a slight hum that is not noticable. Believe me, the rest of the band will have a noisey setup compared to yours if you use this strat.
It has any sound I want it to have. I just adjust the tone and digitech paremeters to get any sound I want. It can be bright and spankey like a telecaster and thick/full like a les paul. The sound quality is all there. I do see that most people replaced the bridge pickup. I think I might get a Gibson 498T humbucker. It can do split coil sound and is used on Les Pauls and SGs. It will make my guitar even more unique and give it more of a Gibson sound.
I am not completely convinced a new pickup will make this guitar sound any better than it does, so email me if you would like to convince me. There is nothing I dislike about the sound
I think the pickup switching button will improve it and the Gibson 498T might help it(Sustain) I have some interest in the Duncan Seymour SH-59 Humbucker for bridge position though, or Pearly Gates. Email me if you know about how these sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action was good when I got it. It had 9-42 gauge strings. The pickups adjusted to the proper height. It had no hardware problems at all. No flaws, no buzz. I would rate it a 9 how I got it because I had Allanoke improve it. My tech gave it 10-46 Fender bullets for me and perfected the action. It plays way easier now and sounds very full and thick. He put the pickups higher to give it a hotter sound, and I like it. It is a 10 now.
I think it looks great, Black guitar, black pickguard. I have to wipe the finish everytime I am done with it so no marks show(fingerprints, armprints) but that is because I still baby it.
10/10

Reliability/Durability : 10
You could definately play live with it. I plan to when I have a band going. The hardware isn't rusting or anything yet. It has no problems. The finish is a Fender finish, so it will last very, very long.
The strap buttons are good. I bought this one dollar strap lock you put over the strap and button and turn, so it never falls.
I can depend on it in heat or cold, night or day.
I don't have a backup because it is my first guitar, but I would use it without a backup even if had a backup. I might bring the backup just to mix things up a bit.(Have this guitar in standard tuning and a telecaster,sg, or les paul in DADGBE, that is, when I get one of those guitars) This guitar will last. This is the same guitar the Red Hot Chili's Peppers use on the Can't Stop video. They had a white/blackpickguard one. I think mine sounds way different than their's. It is probably because they use a different amp and distortion though.

Customer Support : 10
My Allanoke tech is a nice old guy who gives me great deals because I am young and stuff. He is an Authorized Fender Tech and Guitar Builder. I will keep taking my guitar to him and hope his health lasts. Ragin' Records and Sirplus City aren't as knowledgable, respectful, or caring.
I never needed it repaired.
The warranty is a year but I lost the reciept.

Overall Rating : 10
I have played since January, 2003. My first guitar was an acoustic Hohner.
I would buy this guitar again if it were stolen for sure. I have only played a Epiphone Les Paul Standard besides this guitar and I like this guitar more. The only quality sound from epiphone(they have horrible pickups) are their elite series and thunderbird bass.
I wish my guitar came with the single coil switch button instead of me having to have one put on it, but Fender does that to a lot of guitars now anyway.
This guitar is badass, I think anyone should get it except for nu-metal people. It is perfect for so many style of music, especially mine.

Check Fender.com. 5-way switching is excellent. The black body with the black pickguard looks great.

Sound : 8
I play blues, jazz, rock, metal, grunge, let's say about everything, and this guitar does it all very well. The humbuckers give a rich warm sound, without being really muddy, and with a flick of the switch you have a bright single coil tone. Maybe the Tex-Mex humbuckers ruin a bit the purpose of a stratocaster, but they add to the variety of sounds it can make and cancel much noise that normal single coils cause. Overall, the sound isn't very "special", but still very much to my liking. The only thing that is missing is a bit of sustain, but you get a good working tremolo in return (normal, not floyd rose).

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Action was set up a bit to high for me, but I can change that, and it can be set quite low. Finish is beautiful. I love the feal of strats, they are - for me - very comfortabel to play, the body feels natural to me. When I got it, the pickguard was covered with plastic to protect it, which is nice, but getting that plastic off was one hell of a job. Fender should think something better.

Reliability/Durability : 8
The hardware has a great quality. I thing the finish is very durable. On the pickguard, there are allready some scratches, but then again, that's why they've put that replacable thing on it. Strap buttons are ok. I would use it on a gig without back-up. If it should occur that a snare cracks, the way of putting them on would really annoy me; there are better systems.

Overall Rating : 9
This is a great guitar. Pro's: nice sound with tons of variation, comfortable body and neck, quality finish. Con's: not very much sustain, the purpose of a strat is a bit ruined, but then again, take an ibanez with its unpersonal clean sound en without 5-way switching, then this one is a winner. I prefer it over a normal strat, because of it capabilities: you kind of get a strat and a les paul in one instrument, so you have an in-between, which suits me perfect.

21 frets, Tex Mex pickups w/ 5-way switching. It's got a tremolo too, Floyd Rose I think, and it came with a pretty snazzy Feder deluxe Gig bag. You can find full specs on the Fender

Sound : 10
Haven't really developed my own style yet. I like playing heavy, a la Metallica, but I also like blues/funk, like Robert Cray and the Doobie Brothers. Whethere it's Master of Puppets or Nothin but a Woman, this guitar does the job OK. It doesn't really excel though, so I might slap some EMG's in it. The problem also might be that it's only being played through a Crate practice amp.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Hard to say cause it was bought used. Everything still works fine, and the only evidence of use is a couple of *small* scratches on the side of the guitar. Hard to see unless you are lookin' for them

Reliability/Durability : 10
The guitar seems solid, the strap buttons seem good, no problems yet. Haven't gotten a scratch yet. While this would be my main guitar live , always bring a backup

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had to deal with them

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing guitar for just over a year now, and I've had this baby for about a month. My other guitar is a low-end Ibanez. If lost/stolen I would only buy it again if I could find it for around $450 again, but I don't think I could spend another $100 on this guitar. The best part about this guitar is the feel, it just feels comfortable. I also got a real winner as far as the tremolo is concerned, it never goes out of tune noticeably, maybe a 1/16 of a step at the worst. I'm not crazy bout the Tex-Mex electronics, but I love the 5-way switching. Also, the tuners aren't great, I might throw some Grovers on eventually. This guitar won out over a Fender tele (unsure of model, also used) and a new Epiphone Les Paul Standard (though just barely. Ultimately it won out because it was the easiest to play, and I wanted the whammy bar.

This is a follow-up to the last review. Since that review, I've replaced the stock pickups with a Carvin M22SD in the bridge and an M22N in the neck. I also kept the 5-way switch enabling me to tap the coils. The sound has improved since picking these up. I use the HOT bridge hummer for rhythm and the neck hummer or single coil for lead. This has become the most versatile guitar I know since my last review.

This Strat is my first and only electric (for the moment). It's a 2000 model, I believe, with an ash body, locking tuners, 21.5 fret rosewood fingerboard, pearl inlays, two Fender Tex-Mex humbuckers (active), two tone controls (one for each pickup), one volume control, and a five-way pickup switch. It comes with a solid black finish and 3-layered black pickguard. A beautiful guitar with numerous, dependable features. I've had it for a year and I'm still trying to figure out all of its tricks!

Sound : 9
I play mostly hard rock (i.e. Tool, Filter, Incubus) and this guitar couldn't be better suited for it! The two humbucker setup gives it that big, thick sound that you wouldn't normally get from a Strat. Crank up the gain and it'll tear your ears off! But if you turn the gain down you can get a very warm clean tone, almost like an acoustic. It has great sustain and presence in addition to a wide array of settings. The only complaint I have about the sound are the stock Tex-Mex humbuckers. They put the "hum" in "humbucker" with all the background noise. They also tend to sound a little muddy on the low-end (but I'm planning to get new pickups anyway).

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action is just right for me: not too high to prevent single-picking, but not too low for excessive fret buzz. Whetever fret buzz I have is thanks to the tremolo (I can't change the string gauge beyond .09's, and heavier strings would solve my fret buzz problem). I haven't encountered any problems with the way the guitar was built. Everything is where it should be.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It's a Fender, so you know it was built to last. The hardware looks like it'll last, as does the finish. Though I haven't played live, when I do my Strat will be my guitar of choice. It's light, durable, and dependable. Of course, I wouldn't use it without a backup. It means too much to me!

Customer Support : No Opinion
I think the warranty expires in December, but I haven't had any problems with it. I've never had to contact Fender with any problems.

I've been playing guitar for a little under a year now. I have my Deluxe Double Fat Strat and a Marshall AVT20 ampwith a Digitech RP100 and a Dunlop Crybaby Wah between them. The Marshall suits my needs since I don't play out and the RP100 and Crybaby both prove to be A LOT of fun to play around with. : ) If my Strat were stolen, I'd find the culprit and personally beat them until they finally realized that I am God! Not really. Seriously, if it were stolen, I'd look like hell for another one. While there are other guitars I'm interested in getting in the near future (Fender American Tele/Fat Tele, Gibson Les Paul Special Jr., Fender Toronado) my setup would never be complete with my Strat. I love it and I love playing it and parting with it would break my heart.

MIM strat made in 2001, 21 frets, one volume two tone,5-way selector,h/h no single colils period.
passive electronics body is poplar, nice balck finish, neck is maple with rosewood fingerboard. medium jumbo frets, floyd rose tremelo. vintage tuners, gig bag, tools.

Suits my styles well, works for everything but SRV sound. The neck hummer is pretty good fro texas blues, but not close eonogh to SRV tone. Used with solid stae amps, it sond superb., and it is noisier than most humbicking guitars with high overdriven signal settings.

It has some quack in the 2 pos, and 4th pos even better. Nice hummer osund in the neck, good for blues, jazz, rock, good singing tone.
the bridge hummer can scream, this is a superb instrument for the price. Good cruch, lead tone, bomber and some quack. This is a versatile guitar. Don't leave home without it!

i have been playing guitar well over ten years, and I am sure surprised at this guitar. The surprise is due to the versatility, feel of the neck, sound of the mexican pups, and the value!
There's nothing to hate, alot to rave about, and even more to unveil. Truly a superb instrument for under 500 worth about 300 more actually. I choose this for my son, he's into heavier type sounds.
If you want humbucker sound and strat feel this is it. If you can afford the extra bucks for the American series I am sure you will smile indefinitley. Serously this is a great guitar, if you want to one up this get the american series.

This is a 2001 mexican fender deluxe double fat strat with two tex mex humbuckers in the neck and bridge position. It's got 2 tone knobs and one volume (i only care for one tone knob, but i came to that conclusion after purchasing and playing it a bit!) and a 5 way tone selection (I usually only use the bridge position, for clean, occasionally the two full humbuckers on[middle position]). It has 21 frets. It has passive electronics. The neck is maple and the body is poplar I believe. The tuners are non locking generics. The frets are large and it has a crappy bridge (trem)...also generic. I got a free hardshell with it.

Sound : 8
I play punk rock most of the time, and hardcore-heavy metal sometimes (because thats the style I learned on) and it suits both well. The pick ups seem great but wehn loud they can have some heavy feedback, but that is probably also do to my amp and wireless system possibly. I am using a crate GFX 2x12 amp. For some reason it does not pick up greatly on the high E and B strings, like I can't hear them well when the amp is loud and we are practicing...which is upsetting. It has a lot of versatility in my eyes, the clean is beautiful (in the middle position) for jazz and soloing it really is. And the clean in the bridge position is good for clean punk music or distorted. The distorted is very old school and crunchy, i do enjoy it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 4
Fender did a pretty crappy job with this one, and it is brand new. The action was set crappy and a lot of low notes rang and buzzed so i had to raise it some. The pick-ups were adjusted to my liking. The bridge is a bit crappy. The woods are quite good. The neck is a bit flimsy and bends easy from side to side, which can cause it to go out of tune a bit which is probably one of the worst things about it.

Reliability/Durability : 6
I think it will take a good beating live and withstand it, but i would never play live without a back up using this guitar. The hardware could be replaced, as it stands it will probably last some time with what it has. It has a good finish on it. The strap buttons have been replaced but the originals would also probably last well.

Customer Support : No Opinion

I've been playing 4-5 years. I own an ESP horizon 100 that is a cheaper model but I love it. If it wer elost or stolen I would buy something else, my next geetar is probably going to be another ESP or a schecter. I like guitars with stop tail pieces a lot. I love the sound and the playability. I compared it to the Tom Delonge model which I almost got but thought better of it, yet the tom delonge model would of been the better choice. I wish it was hard tail. I like sex.
