2004 built in Indonesia. One volume, one tone, three way switch.
Two single coil pickups. one in bridge, one under neck. The body is made of agathis. the neck is maple with a rosewood fingerboard.
The body is painted black with chrome hardware and a mirror pickguard. headstock is painted black to match body. the bridge has the string thru body design. tuners are the inexpensive asian version they have been putting on squiers for the past 20 years. The neck is the best part of this guitar. sort of a 1962 style. Guitar came with a nice gigbag.

Sound : 8
I play Country,Blues and Pop Rock and this tele suits the style fine. The pickups seem a bit hotter than the US telecaster. I play into Fender tube amps amd use analog overdrive pedals. Much easier to overdrive this guitar vs the US one with vintage pickups. Volume and tone pots are a bit noisy but everything else is typical tele. A rich bright sound usually heard on Nashville recordings.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar was flawless from the factory. This is where Fender has improved the Squier line over the years. You would never have found a finish like this even 5 years ago. Everything was solid . The action of the neck is what makes this guitar. frets are well done and no buzzing anywhere. I was amazed.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This is a beginners guitar. So if you want to gig with it you will have to do a couple of upgrades. First, change out the pots and dials and install US ones. Second ,get rid of the cheap tuners and install a proper Fender set. Once you've done this the guitar will be gig ready. I gigged with this guitar and it sounded great. I little crunchier than the typical tele , but cut through the mix very well. It is a 6 before the upgrades a 9 after.

Buy from a reputable dealer and you should be covered if anything is seriously wrong. Ive been buying Fender gear for 30 years and they back up there products.

Overall Rating : 10
Been at this for 30 years, Own Gibson ,Fender and Gretsch guitars and Fender and Vox amplifiers. I rate this guitar a best buy for anyone wanting to buy there first guitar. It is a fantastic guitar to learn on. The neck is one of the best you will find anywhere on a guitar in this price range. The pickups and finish are good. The best feature is the neck. The worse feature are the tuners. I played the Stratocaster version of this guitar (black/chrome) and it is not half as nice as the Telecaster version.

it's a tele therefore back to basics plenty of tone with little fuss. Single volume control, single tone control, and 3 way selector swith to swith configuration between 2 single coil pickups.
Neck pickup is chrome lipstick style, bridge pickup is standard black single coil. Gloss black finish with in my opinion a very desireable black headstock (not so common in the fender/ squier world). Chrome/ mirror pickguard and hardware. Agathis body, rosewood fretboard, maple neck with dot inlays, and medium-jumbo frets.

I give it an 8 because it doesnt have a ton of features true, but it doesnt need any more! Putting more features on it will be like putting a caravan on the back of a aston martin.

Sound : 9
It suits my tastes perfectly indie/rock (Kinks, Animals, Oasis, Razorlight, Kings of Leon......)
My musical ear is not highly established yet I'm still a novice really, but I know played through my line 6 spider amp I can get a wide range of tones.
Its output is not as loud as my les paul but still loud enough to make my neighbours, neighbours complain.
It can be bright and crisp sounding typical of a telecaster, But it also can have a dark heavier side venturing into rockier territory. And all this with relatively low hum, well it is single coil so you expext some hum (i'm talking traditionally here before the invention of humbucking single coils), otherwise you buy something with humbuckers. The sounds can be very clean on the right settings.
I have know dislikes for this guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I was happy with the factory setup. Playable straight from the box, all was needed was a bit of tuning and then it was all set to go.
Had a miniscule flaw in the finish of the headstock. A very small section of the black finish was tarnished, looked like matt black finish with clear gloss on top, but i'm talking an area smaller than a baby's finger nail here so no biggie unless those watching you play often bring magnifying glasses!
Possibly consider changing the strings to a heavier guage 9's are a bit flimsy but thats down to personal preference.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Everything seems sturdy, robust and very solidly in place.
Strap buttons hold on tightly, jack socket is a secure fit.
Finish looks like it will last the test of time.
I can depend on it and if i was gigging in a pub i wouldn't need a backup. In the unlikely event it fails lets hope the pub serves food i can always play the spoons :)
Seriously this guitar seems to be a good dependable work horse.

I've only been playing for 2 years.
I own/ use: an acoustic yamaha fg750, Hohner Arbor series Les Paul, this tele.
If stolen / lost I would definately replace it. If I was feeling a bit flush I would replace it, and buy its's big brother the fender black and chrome big block. Which has the same black and chrome finsish but an additional single coil pick up, and block inlays on the neck instead of dot inlays.
The looks of the squier are hypnotising, but the last time I looked at the fender big block I entered a state of comatose :)
This is such a versatile instrument its a pleasure for any aspiring guitarist to play as it has a tonal answer for everything!
When choosing this guitar I was contemplating the black squier master series chambered tele it's a bit more expensive and I still may get one, the master series version again has black headstock, but the differences in short are it has no pick guard, block inlays, and 2 humbuckers. As i have a les paul i opted against the master series whch has a les paul type of setup and entered the bright chimes of the single coil world, and those famous tele sounds saving a small packet along the way!

This guitar, like all teles, has a small but versatile feature set. I like the pickups and the quality of the components used. The color scheme is a bit too flash for me and an offwhite pickguard is probably in my guitar's future. Love the twenty two fret neck. Nice large neck, flatter than vintage radius, thick slab of rosewood fingerboard. Kind of a "C" shape, not too thin like most newer fender necks. If I had my druthers I would opt for more of a "V" profile but still very nice.

Sound : 8
Sound is very good and comports with generally accepted ideas of what a telecaster should sound like, for the price it is excellent. The alnico pickups are quite good sounding and seem to be a bit "overwound" as they have a midrange emphasis and the bridge doesn't really achieve the classic beaming treble lead telecaster pickup sound. I presume that is in keeping with the black and chrome scheme as it seems it would appeal more to rock type players than the blues/country/roots end of the continuum. The pickups are warm and open sounding. I would describe the bridge as being chimey and the neck as somewhat strat like. They sound very nice in the combined middle switch position, and I think they are reverse wound from one another as this switch position seems a bit quieter. I did not expect hum cancelling in a guitar in this price range.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
This guitar was on offer used at the local GC mega mart. I immediately had it set up at the store by their tech and the action is actually lower than I would like and the grub screws on the american standard style bridge stick up quite a bit, it is still playable though. Two problems however: 1) the fifteenth fret is wonky, too low and notes die there so the guitar needs a fret dressing. I did not detect that at the store because the local guitar center insists on playing loud music that makes it virtually impossible to actually audition an instrument while actually in the store. Also most guitars in the store seem to have strings recycled out of old barb wire that are two or three gauges lighter than the ones I typically play. The end result is I missed an obvious flaw I would otherwise have detected. 2) The output jack is both incorrectly placed and loose. A right angle male connector will not make contact with the jack and stay plugged in the guitar. This may not be a factory flaw however as the output jack is one of the few design shortcomings of this type of guitar and since the guitar in question was used may have resulted from being played while sitting down with a straight connector. The cord connectors are a couple of inches long and when played sitting down on a sofa the plug acts as a lever and messes about with the inside metal jack parts. Add to this the propensity for this type of jack to loosen and it doesn't take long for these types of difficulties to occur. So I will either get an electrosocket type jack cup or perhaps go the les paul square cover plate route as I have that arrangement on another franken tele and it has worked well for many years with no difficulty. The agathis body on this guitar is very heavy, probably in the eight to ten pound range. This is probably heavier than almost anyone would like in a guitar of this type. After all it isn't a les paul. One further problem/dislike is the edge radius on the body of the guitar. It is smaller radius, more acute sharper edge, than on a real telecaster and I find this somewhat uncomfortable when playing. It is the same reason I don't like guitars with bound bodies, and the reason the strat got "comfort contouring" when it was designed.

Reliability/Durability : 9
The quality of the components on this guitar are excellent for the price. The tuners are solid. It has fifties style dome type knobs and even a fifties style round switch tip which I personally favor. The control pots feel very quality and roll nicely with out scratching and have good usable tapers. The strap buttons are okay and even have little felt washers so they don't mar the finish. The telecaster is notoriously durable/reliable and I don't think this guitar will be different as very good quality components have been used throughout. I never gig without a backup guitar.

Customer Support : 1
No Idea. The manufacturer is in Asia and I don't think Fender USA will expend very much effort supporting a two hundred dollar instrument.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
Twenty five years. (where does the time go?) Have a selection of strat and tele type guitars. Deville 4x10 amp, peavey practice amp. Pretty typical selection of whizzers, do alls, and framiswhatsis's.

Probably 2005 was when it was made
21 frets
solid body
basic telecaster controls
2 sigle coiles bla bla bla
Its a telecaster, Basic

For Blues and southern rock you got everything you need.
Im playing through a Beringer GM110,and a Peavy 158 W/ a Zoom 707
I was very impressed with how quite it is for 2 sc
it haas a very good tele sound, probably since they up graded the pups w/ alninco magnets. and you can get just about any sound you want by just playing w/ the controls a little.
As far as likes, I buught it becouse I liked what I had in my hands.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
As for Thefactory set up thats why I bought it right then,I was so Impressed by the action but then again it came with 9s on it, and I play 11s on my single coils, but even after I put 11s on it, the action is good, expc since its only a $200 guitar.
the pickups were just fine on mine, but I did have to tighten the tuning pgs,and it stays in tune for as long as I play it,but if it sits a couple days, it'll loose or gain very little, as far as the fiot and finish it is really good quality.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Ive only had this for about a week so I cant say,but its solid, and I cant imagine anything major going wrong w/ it that a little time cant fix.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never delt w/ them

Overall Rating : 10
I've been learning how to play for 25yrs,when you stop learning is when you stop playing.
And if it were stolen,Id probly buy another one,or maybe a standard Squire in another color.

2004 Black and Chrome Telecaster, 2 single coil alnico pickups, sealed tuners, billet type saddles, Fender strings, 3 way switch, 1 tone, 1 volume control, maple bolt on neck, solid heavy body, black color with mirror "chrome" plastic pickguard, hardware is also chrome.

Sound : 9
sound is great using my VOX Pathfinder! the bridge pickup really sounds good, crunchy when distorted, twangy when not. The neck pickup is not on the same level sound wise as the bridge and sounds a bit muffled though you can get that tele cluck-twang sound out of it, more for rythym playing. Both pickups by themselves hum noticible, use the middle position on the switch and they quiet down when using overdrive. Using a Boss Metal distortion pedal the hum is more noticible, the PUPs seems to like overdrive more than a distortion pedal. Both PU's together sound like a humbucker pickup that lets some of the hum thru. Good crunchy sounds sensitive to playing style but not overly microphonic. The sound of this guitar is quite versitle, esp. for the price. I give the neck PUP an 8 and the bridge a 10. Together they are a 9.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
What turned me on to this guitar other than the sound was the neck. The first thing I noticed was how fast it was. Shredding is very easy on this guitar. Since it has 22 frets they are closer together than on a 21 fret guitar, IE: MIM Strat, which makes a big difference for reach, Also the neck is 2 or 3MM thinner width wise, the down side to being a bit narrow there is less real estate on the neck for bending and chord playing. The high E string sits only 1.5 - 2mm from the edge, if you finger fret sloppy and don't strike the string straight down, bending it down toward the edge, the string will come off the fretboard. String bends for E and B always must be toward the bass side. All this is not a big deal unless it does not fit ones playing style. Moving the saddle toward and touching the B string saddle keeps the string on the board but the E saddle won't stay in that position. I'm thinking of using a punch/drill to mark 2 holes so the saddle screws can set next to the B saddle. This is whats fun about a good inexpensive guitar, you can set it the way you want not worring about wrecking up an expensive piece. The strings were a bit high, 1.5 mm off the neck so I adjusted them down to 1mm, string Buzz is at a minumum. The neck came with some relief and not warped. The Fender strings that came with the guitar are junk, get new ones.

Reliability/Durability : 9
The guitar seems put together well I see no reason it won't stay that way. One other note,, I own a couple Fender MiM Strats, the switch and the tuners on both are not as well made as the one on the Squire Tele. Even the saddles on the Squire Tele are better than on the MIM Strat, the Strat's saddles are the open type that are very rough. Finish and setup are identical between the MIM Strat and Squire Tele.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have not dealt with Fender.

Overall Rating : 10
Overall I give this guitar a 10 because for 200 bones you can't go wrong.
I own more expensvie guitars in the same league as this one interms of finish quality, initial setup, and tone. It comes with good hardware, the neck is straight.

Made in Indonesia, November 2003 (if I understand the serial number correctly). The Squier Standard Telecaster with a plastic mirrored pickguard, rosewood neck, black body and headstock, the body is agathis wood, chrome finish on all the parts. It has a modern tele string-thru bridge, and - well, it's a Tele. I got it from the shop with a gig bag. It's a nice modern take on the classic.

The machine heads were unreliable and the input jack, always a potential weak spot on teles started to slip after a few weeks. I put in Gotoh heads and an electrosocket with a switchcraft, no worries now.

Sound : 10
I play a wide variety of music; and I also do some soundtrack work. I have a Vox Pathfinder 15R, and a Zoom 3030 but when I use effects during recording I usually use more software effects and synths, stuff like Buzzer, and Pluggo. Telecasters are one of the most versatile guitars out there, and I can get sounds that purr and growl, I can get twang of course and a nice warm, creamy sound in the middle position. The Tele and amp combination gives me a great sounds just on their own, and that's what I usually use when woodshedding. I want to try and start gigging again, and I would just want to use my Vox and Tele, there's so many great sounds!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Factory set up was fair, the nut is not cut right but it can be played. The neck pickup was set a bit low, and the high e and g strings had a bit of buzz.

From what I've read about Squiers in general, I knew that a pro setup was essential. After that, no worries. But with regards to the build quality, it is superb. Actually, I have seen guitars costing three times the price that don't look as nice. Squier has really made great improvements in the quality control and craftmanship. Everything fits, no electrical noises, and the paint job is top notch.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Ever seen a Tele that isn't durable or reliable? I am going to put in 250k pots and an orange drop cap and a new switch. It isn't that the stock parts have failed, but I just love this guitar so much I want to put in the best.

The finish is well applied, but I reckon it would chip with the proper persuasion and abuse. But that's fine, a dinged up Tele looks cool...

I really want to gig with it, since I bought it about 5 months ago that desire has been rekindled.

I could gig without a backup, but I want another Tele anyways.

1 year from the shop, but if I've got a problem with it, I'd try to sort it out myself.

Overall Rating : 10
Great value, great guitar. I've been playing for over 30 years, I've been in bands, I've busked, I've done recordings and soundtracks. I've gotten over GAS, I have just an Ovation acoustic and this Tele. These black & chrome guitars are supposedly a limited edition, I haven't seen them on the Squier website anymore. If you can find one, check it out. I looked at some MIM Fenders and they didn't have anything over this Squier - unless you have to have only Fender on the head, and pay over twice as much. The black and chrome look might not be for traditionalists, but it looks cool, and it is a well built solid instrument that has all the sounds you'd expect from a Telecaster.

I pity the fool that would try and steal it. I'd certainly try and find another one, but since they seem to have stopped production I would be happy with a Squier Standard Telecaster.
