mine is a '84 JV'57 squier stratocaster white with a very nice and clean maple mast. recently I replaced the pickups, for they were oxid! for fat'50's and now it sounds fat too! I own it now for 15 years. I play for 16 yeras now. Own les paul custom 25/50th anniversary, zemaitis/greco, dobro, alhambra acoustics...I put a 10 on here 'cause I think the stratocaster is a perfect guitar on her own! it's complet!

fat old strat! It blows with a nice amp...mine groove soul-50 15", with 4*10" cabinet...I play blues in my band in mallorca island, spain.www.bigyuyu.net, 5 times a week and it's allways there! I have it tuned on open C for the slide job, but I use it with standard D tune...with DR pure blues 11-50's pure nickel! fat, bright, and savage when I push it!

1983 JV squier, black, maple neck, vintage style tuners and bridge.
This is one of the Japanese domestic model's with the Japanese pick-up's and 5 way switch. It's a Strat....so less is more.

Sounds like a Stratocaster, but not just any Strat. It's when I play this baby in a live situation that I realise I have something special. This JV is capable of beautiful mellow clean tones but has the ability to sound really aggresive when required which is unlike a lot of Strats out there. The Japanese pickups have a loud, fat but bitey tone to them which I find so lovely to listen to and a joy to play. I play it through a Rat and TS-9dx, delay into a Vox ac-15 or Fender Bassman. I'm a working musician so i play a whole variety of music in different situations. There is nothing I dislike about this JV...I'm in love.

I bought it second hand so naturally it needed a tweek here and there to suit my needs but luckily I've learnt how to set up guitars over the years so it was an easy fix. It has a few dings and scratches in the body, the bridge and tuners are slightly oxidised but none of this affects the sound or feel of the guitar in fact it makes for a charming playing experience. Overall it's an extremely well made guitar.

I've been playing about 22 years now and I still do it for a living.
I own a lot of guitars but as far as Strats go I own an American series Fender and a cheap Strat copy both are nice Strats but the JV out shines them. If it were lost or stolen I would cry. The thing i love about it most is the sound; it just sounds fabulous. I was a little sceptical about the hype around theses Jv squiers but I've been converted the hype is true.

1984 JV-Squier. Very nice replica of an 50-ies strat. I bought this guitar in 1991. Originally cream white, but I refinished it several times. Bit of a pity, because these strats are very rare nowadays and probably valuable. 21 frets, light alder body, maple neck, 7,5 inch radius, 3 single coils. This was the most expensive version, I am told, with USA made pickups. The bridge is original but I replaced the bridge saddles some years ago because the original ones were worn out. The top nut is of the Wilkinson roller nut type. The (replacement) tuners are Gotoh's. It got refretted several times, but I can't tell with what type of fretwire.

Before I bought this guitar I had several Fenders, USA (even an old 1975 Tele deluxe) and Japanese models, a custom built strat and a Fernandes strat. This guitar sounded the best to me and stil does, a lot better than the USA models at the time. I like the Stones, Gallagher, Hendrix, Red Hot Chilipeppers, Richard Thompson kind of strat sound and this is it. Versatile, bright but not too bright, ringing, full not thin like many other strats, singing and sustaining. Kind of noisy but I've shielded the electronics. No dislikes.

No idea of the original set-up, but with the shop-standard here in Holland in mind, I think it must have been pretty poor. These guitars are very easy to set up yourself and the used woods and materials are excellent.

This guitar is very reliable, I've owned it for almost 15 years now, used it in almost al of my bands (and in 3 bands at the moment) and I still like tot play it daily. My other guitar is a partially home-made tele. The jv-strat stays better in tune. I put it in it's case and often take it out and play without tuning! It a bit harder to play. I know some Squiers and Fenders that are easyer to play but very few sounds this good.

I've played for more than 20 years now. I am afraid I would stop playing if it got lost (I hope this won't sound as any kind of encouragement to people who don't like my guitarplaying!!) Because I payed little money for this old guitar, I consider this as fantastic value. My other guitar is a partially home-made telecaster with a Fernandes sunburst ash body and pickups from David White, and Fender, ESP bridge and unknown brand of beautifully flamed maple neck etc. I do like this guitar too.

My Squier JV-strat was made in 1982 and made in Japan (ofcourse). It had the normal 21-frets. I only bought the body and neck (with tremolo-unit and tuners), without the electic circuit. So I had to buy all kind of stuff: i bought an original JV-pickguard and an original JV-3 way switch, some pots from a '86 Japanisch fender and 2 Fender Vintage pick ups and 1 pick up of a '78 fender stratocaster (USA) and put it together.
The neck is maple and the body 2 color. And... the gitar us unbelievable ligt in weight!!

Ik play rock and funky stuff. I normally use an '70 Marshall Superlead 100W (but it is 50 W now) and 2 celestion G12H and 2 celestions G12M in one marshallbox. But I also have a Marshall from '79, a Fender Twin Reverb from '73, and combination of ADA MP-1 + BOSS GX700 and a stereo Peavey Classic 50/50 and a Peavey Classic 60/60.
I normally only use a BOSS DS1 and an Ibanez TS9 and an Ibanez Eq (Eq700?)from the '70s. I also recently bought an Ibanez UE400 and it is ok.
I like the combination of the JV-strat and the Marshall very much! The gitar can be very bright with enough depth!

I've been playing for about 22 years now. I own a gibson LP-custom, an Ibanez JEM7 RB, an Tele USA and a Tele from Indonesia.
I also have 3 Fender strats from the USA (1989, 1989 + 1992) and 2 fender strats from Japan (1984 + 1986) and one Squier (JV-)Strat (from Japan). And the best souding gitar is..... the Squier.... sorry guys from fender USA, but it is thru!
And if that gitar was stolen.... I kill them!!

This is my "Gene Vincent" Strat. Made in 1983 with large "Squier Stratocaster" 70s Decal on the headstock. The color is olympic-white, it has a maple-neck. The bridge has been replaced, the replacement is made of brass. The tone-control was changed. Now the middle-PU works like the bridge PU did before and the bridge-PU has now a nice tone-control. The original 3-way selector has been replaced by a 5-way switch. Serial-Number JV 6XXXX, can't remember more..., paid 400 Euros for it.

The first time I played it I thought "hmm, like any Strat..." but after playing it about half an hour I realized this guitar has something special. It really sounds like a Strat should. I had a japanese 60s RI Stratocaster, a '92 RI Jaguar and a '94 RI Jazzmaster before but this guitar sounds SO MUCH better than any of its predecessors, it's almost unbelievable. Seems to be made of high-quality alder wood and very good PUs. This guitar responds very nice to any kind of playing-style. The tone is rich and full, the whole guitar sings even when played clean and doesn't sound muddy at all. The tone-control doesn't have to be turned up to 10 to make it sound bright and the sound doesn't change when the volume is turned down. I use it together with a '66 Bandmaster and a '78 VibroChamp, they seem to be made for each other.
Suits my style perfectly, this is 60s Surf, Rockabilly and Blues. Exactly what a Strat was made for 40 to 50 yrs ago...I can't say much about very distorted sounds but with a fuzz pedal (vox tone-bender in my case) it sounds a little bit too bright so you may have to turn down the tone-control.

Straight neck after 21 yrs, frets are OK, original PUs fully working, some minor dongs but nothing special. Very playable. I think Squier did a great job. The lacquer seems to be very thick, unlike the original nitro-lacquer finish of the 50s...I don't like the 70s decal on the headstock as it doesn't look like from '57...

21 yrs old but I think it will last AT LEAST 21 more years. Can't imagine that this guitar will ever break. But as I have it for 4 weeks only now I won't give it a rating...

Never dealt with Fender but I've got some Frontline magazines from which you can get really useful information about guitar-setup, pickup-change etc. But my guitar-dealer ordered a 60s RI sunburst Jaguar guitar 10 yrs ago for me and they were not able to deliver it so I bought that Jazzmaster I mentioned before...

I've been playing for 15 yrs now and this guitar is the best-sounding guitar I've ever owned which includes the above mentioned japanese RI Stratocaster, Jaguar and Jazzmaster as well as some german guitars from the 60s: a Hofner 164, Klira Jazzmaster copy and a Framus Strato DeLuxe.. The reason I bought it is because I've tried a first-series JV Strat (with the original "spaghetti-logo") some time ago and this one was also great, maybe even grater than mine. If it were stolen or in case I have to sell it I would buy another one as soon as possible. I would recommend anyone to buy an old Squier JV instead of any other 50s reissue-model from Japan. I'd like to try an SQ-Strat and can't wait to compare this guitar with a new 50s RI Stratocaster from Mexico...

1982 Japan. Sunburst. 3 original usa pickups (standard issue at the time unil '83) I've replaced these with custom shop 50's pick ups. Nice and light alder body, SUPER COMFORTBLE neck.

for what it is, the sound value for money is 10/10. as far as strats go, it's a little weaker than current usa models, small lack of warmth. Still has that unmistakeable classic strat tone.

These guitars are great value for money. i'd play one over a late 70's strat. They feel extremely good for a 'cheap' guitar. I now have a real usa 57 re-issue and the difference is HUGE in favour of the usa re-issue. these guitars don't sound as rich as most usa strats but feel alot better than most of the usa standard strats, has alot more vibe too! A GREAT SPARE STRAT.

This guitar was made in November 1983.22 frets with an alder body and maple neck.
the finish is black,(gee maybe I should call it Blackie)???? I have never seen an original 57, just pictures and this guitar looks true to form.
It is a re-issue of a 57 Strat, how many features do you want??????

I play rock and blues through a fender twin amp.the tone of this guitar is mellow and sweet at the same time, but when using a zoom for effects I can get a Gilmour sound. Also replicates Clapton when he used Blackie. Truley a great sounding guitar. I borrowed a 40th Anniversery 54 strat from a friend and there was a difference in sound. The 54 had a slightly richer tone but the Squire was more of a sweet blues sound, and that is what I am looking for. I have been playing guitar for 40 years now and this is one of the sweetest guitars I have ever used.

The guitar is a bit dinged up, a few paint chips but I am fixing the finish my self with some good old GM black auto paint.I may replace the pickups with vintage Seymour Duncans but will hold on to the originals as I know I will miss the sound. The original pickups are Japanese and I think they did a fine job.The workman ship is pretty damn good, certainly much better than most American strats from the 80s.
The neck is very smooth, not too fat or thin, just right for me. I truely love this guitar. It is a pleasure to play.the action is superb.

This guitar is 20 years old now and looks like it was played previously by a blues player. The laquor on the fretboard is a bit worn in spots but it doesn,t effect my playing a bit. Looks kind of funky.I will NEVER part with this guitar. I don,t play live anymore (maybe in the future) but I play my guitar at home every day.
Yes ,it will outlive me.

As I mentioned above, I have been playing guitar for 40 years.I also own a Gibson ES 347 but will probably sell it as I rarely play it anymore.I love the JV Strat so much.I may buy another one if I can find one and keep it in its original state. If this guitar were strolen or lost I would definitely buy another one but they are getting very hard to find. They are a collectors item now as mine has increased in value by 25% in less than a year. If you have one of these hold on to it.
