i wanted a guitar different than anything out there. I GOT IT!!!
I replaced the invader pickup (brash sounding) and installed a seymour duncan custom custom (smooth lows, expanded mid, sweet highs)
Then I added a tone contol!!! The body is a mex-strat bodyunder the pickgaurd so it was no prob.(even a slight chambered sound).I LOVETHISGUITAR! plays like a strat sounds like a gibson.

factory setup was great...felt perfect to me as soon as i picked it up action was good but change strings (fender does NOT make good strings) D'Add 10's
I love the telecaster control knobs..none better..everything else is what you would expect from fender.looks great in surf green w/pearloid pickgard.

2003 model i suppose. they had just discontinued them and i got a sweet deal on it. alder body, maple neck w/rosewood fretboard, 21 medium-jumbo frets, and a duncan invader pickup. also has hardtail bridge, vintage fender tuners, and one volume knob. i give it a ten not because i feel it has alot of features but because there is quality in what it does have. also i hate blink and tom.

my style is hard rock- kiss/sabbath/etc. and i love good guitar players that can shred(yngwie, gilbert, rhoads etc.) i use this guitar with a marshall avt50 head and marshall 1951a 4 x 10 cabinet. sounds great on the overdrive channel, the clean is ok but neither the marshall or this pickup is made for clean picking. i like it because it is all that i wanted in the guitar.

This guitar was made in Mexico, with 22 frets, only one little volume control, 1 seymour duncan invader pickup, and it came with a a gig bag when i bought it, I it at a local guitar center. I gave it a 7 because there isnt much to this guitar, except a volume knob.

I play any kind of rock music, yes some blink 182 too also, it fits my music style pretty well with the Seymour Duncan Pickup. The sound is O.K. its good for a 20 dollar pickup :). I could use more of a variety of sounds, I gave it an 8 because the 1 sound that you get is not too bad.

This guitar did not have ay flaws in the paint job, except a few tiny scratches probably caused by people trying the guitar out, no biggy. The bad thing about this is that my pickup keeps falling in the bridge because the screw gets real loose and I have to take my strings off (wich is a pain on this guitar) and put the screw back in and all that. I liked the feel of the neck a bit but its not as good as my Les Paul, i prefer thinner necks. All and all the the action fit and finish is not bad except for the pickup always falling so i gave it an 8.

I would take this guitar to a gig if i had one, it should do pretty good. This guitar seems like it will last me a long time, the thing will never break after i keep dropping it. I can kind of depend on it, who knows maybe the pickup might fall in while im playing, i wouldnt use it on a gig without a backup, nor with any other guitar. I gave it a 9 because this baby will last a long time.

Ive been playing for 1 year and I have a epiphone les paul custom, i usually play that more often then the Tom Delonge, but I still use it. If it was stolen or lost I probably wouldnt buy it again, i would probably buy a guitar that feels better and has more sound variety to it. I like that the guitar is pretty well made and looks nice with the pearl pickgaurd and i disklike the only one tone knob and 1 pickup that keeps falling in. I wish it had more pickups, it would be awesome :) Overall i give it a 7.

The Tom DeLonge Stratocaster gets a five on features because lets face it, there are not many. i would have given it an eight but the guitar is too damn hard to string, i HATE the vintage tuning machines, it takes me at least 45 minutes to string this puppy, but its well worth the time.

Blink 182 has been my favorite band since Dude Ranch came out, so you could understand the piss-your-pants excitement i experienced when i first saw the Tom DeLonge Signature series at the NAMM show. (i go to every one of them). i bought this guitar because of the name that was on it. after i played it i realized how completely awesome this guitar is, total in your face tone. I'm in a pop-punk band and this guitar suits my style perefectly. my setup is the DeLonge start into a Randall Vmax (yes..i use a randll for punk). NO DISTORTION PEDALS-it's a sin to get any distortion other than from your amp. this has got to be the best punk guitar EVER its got articulate highs and very balanced mids, although i do agree with one of the reviewers that it does have a lot of bass, but thats the price you pay for a godly humbucker. ever played it unplugged? this axe's acoustic tone beats my Taylor and Gibson jumbo. overall, this is the best rock guitar EVER. the only thing i dont like about it is the tapping sound you get from the pick hitting the pickguard. oh well.

it sounds great through mesa and marshall ok through fenders amps which surprised me and kinda colored through peaveys but most guys who play this guitar i doubt favor peavey amps which i do but i like to mix shat up a little, when i turn the volume knob on its sorta like a car without power steering it takes a while to start turning well it takes mine a while to turn on, but the invader makes it freakin rip anbody a new one i could car less if it was a les paul loaded with humbukcers this guitar will show you whats up

not many features here, just like all the ads say its a stripped down scrappy axe, i'll be adding a tone knob tho. it gets a 3 for features as this is not a feature based instrument.

here's where all the 15 year old reviewers go nuts defending their silly music. your personal taste in music is not the issue here. personally i like the sound this guitar makes, the alder body offsets the darker nature of the invader and it makes a great little beater guitar. i would use this for jazz and/or blues just to piss people off and because i know how to operate my amp. i didnt choose this for its clean sound but it does get a decent one. i would've preferred something more trebely but the invader does a good job.

ive been playing for 3 years-dont you love people like me who think they know everything. i really wouldve liked to read some reviews on this guitar but this section is flooded with 13 year old goofusses who think 'punk' is the be all end all type music. then there are the other chumps who should wait until they pass adolesence before reviewing this guitar. ripping on tom delonge is really lame,at the time this guitar was realeased blink182 was popular and fender saw their chance to make some money. i really think this is a great little axe whether for a beginner or some cat like me looking for a beater. if it were stolen id hunt down the moron who swiped it. oh yeah the dude who mentioned removing the name plate, good idea. i dont like having peoples names on my guitars. despite the stigma this guiar carries with it, its a great guitar. get one, mod it all up and play it till it falls apart.

2002 MIM Strat w/ single Duncan Invader at bridge - you know the drill. This one finished in Green. Extremely limited piece of kit (entirely due to the pickup) but, as noted below, a decent platform on which to put together a good guitar at reasonable cost. When I first plugged this in I was absolutely appalled. Its got only one sound and that sound is unbelievably limp. Forget about any clean sounds in stock trim. I was lucky enough to be given this thing and have installed a PAF Pro as this was basically uselss to me as is. Contemplating adding another 'bucker in the neck for a sort of Mexican Big Apple equivalent.

I guess the Invader pickups do their job. That is if the job is churning out bland softcock music for people who dont know any better. For a supposed 'punk' guitar this thing has no teeth whatsoever! Can you imagine how insipid Steve Jones would have sounded with Mr DeLonge's rig? Its nice to see Jack White and friends currently nailing down the coffin lid on this Californian middle class shit, not to mention the entire embarrassing Nu-metal thing.
Once I got that Invader out (I gave it away - I cant imagine ever using it again its that cheesy) this is a very functional guitar. I particularly like the hardtail bridge as I've never used a stock Strat Bridge that didnt suffer tuning problems.
I am currently favouring a red knob Dual Showmen through an old quad loaded w/ Greenback celestions for gigging. At home I favour my Deluxe Reverb. Guess I'm just a Fender type of fella. Effects (when used) are usually limited to a Big Muff and Digitech whammy.
My rating is for the stock instrument.

Who gives a shit about factory setup so long as the guitar will actually take a proper setup? That said, I'm once again pleasantly surprised at the finish on the MIM Fenders. Probably not the prettiest Rosewood I've ever seen but quite passable. Paintwork is good but certainly not top-shelf. The acid test will be how this holds up in a few years as recent Fenders have a tendency to be poorly sealed and sinking paintwork is common. Nice to see their fretwork has improved enormously over the last coupla years. But, for these prices Fender can still lift their game. Don't get me started on Gibson...
The neck pocket is tight and everything works as it should.

Fenders are among the most resilient guitars of all due to their inherently strong design so yeah, gigging is no drama. These things are born to play live.
Play a gig without backup? If you never break a string yer aint playing hard enough!
Playing without Straplocks if you can afford 'em is just idiotic.

Been playing for around 15 years and own a fair few guitars/amps of varying brands. That said I have a great fondness for Fender gear in general and the Strat in particular.
It says a lot that Fender would give this guy a signature model. Everything I've heard from this goose screams sellout and fraud. Money talks I s'pose. I mean, whats a guy of his age doing singing about being at school? What a phony. Anyway, I'll give this particular signature model another 3 years if its lucky (Nuno Bettencourt Washburn anybody?). I hear they're selling well now so in a few years you'll be able to pick 'em up cheap when their N'Sync grade fans move onto something else. Pick one up for for a few hundred, fix the pickup problem and you've got a good cheap Strat. Its a good thing they didnt let Tom DeLonge sign the thing anywhere you could actually see it. Probably to keep the embarrassment factor down...
If it were stolen I'd hunt the thief down and strangle the imitation punk with his wallet chain.
Bottom line: Good guitar, awful pickup.

Great feel and action, hard tail is much better than all that "tremelo" wammy bar junk. The Seymour Duncan Invader is GREAT for Punk and I like not having a bunch of knobs and switches to mess with. 60 cycle hum is now non existant. The classic fender color and look is nice. Overall the simplicity is great and it has the Strat "feel".

I play older Punk, X, Black Flag, Germs, Ramones etc, and it sounds good, real dirty but not muddy. With my small practice amps "crunch" switch on, the Seymour Duncan howls, but at the same with time some tone adjustments, and the crunch off I can still get a decent clean sound.

After about 16 years of not playing (I was in a band burned out and walked away) My wife and kids encouraged me to pick up guitar again, so Off to Guitar Center I went. I tried a Squier, too cheap-o-, A Mexian Standard, nice but I hated the pickups, then I was introduced to the Tom Delonge, well back in my performing days I would have killed for this guitar, If you play Punk or any type of heavy chord based music buy it. You can't beat it for the money.
