I found this MG411 with a fine gig bag at a pawn shop and I wish I still had it as I cant find another411.It sounded great with a pickup on it over a big church system and my young friend couldnt believe it when I peeled a piece of tape from the label. No negative comments here. Publish it or not, believe it or not.

The guitar is a Dreadnought style with simple adornments. I believe that that saddle, nut and bridge pins are plastic. The box says that the top is ?natural spruce? and it is probably a laminate. The sides and back are stated as mahogany (probably laminated). The fret board and bridge are rosewood. The guitar has a rosette inlay. The no-name tuners are ?chrome plated.? The tuning machine?s shafts are hour glass in shape and there is no little screw to adjust the tension. The finish is a very high gloss which some may think makes the guitar look a bit plastic, but I think it looks very nice. There is also a cheap tortoise shell pick guard that scratches easily. The guitar came with a truss wrench a cheap strap and an extra set of strings.

I'm just learning to play and use the guitar for sing-alongs, so I'm not doing anything fancy. The sound is clear and sort of mellow, but it doesn't have a pronouned bottom end. It lacks the clarity of an expensive guitar, but honestly, it sounds just fine. A profesional isn't going to use this guitar on stage but it sounds just fine to take it to a party, park or camping.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The fit and finish on my guitar was actually pretty good. I couldn't find any clear flaws and looking around the inside of the guitar didn't reveal any glue spots or other signs of shoddy workmanship. The action was pretty good and low out of the box and there was no buzzing or other obnoxious sounds. Although many of the parts are plastic (nut, pins, etc.)They seems to work just fine.

Reliability/Durability : 7
I think that guitar is best use for a student or for fun when you don't want to take your expensive guitar. The hardware would probably last for a number a years, but this is not a guitar that you would likely pass on to the next generation. It is not that the durability is bad, but it not top of the line either.

Never tried

I found this guitar at a local Walmart at a closeout price of $50. It definately is worth more that that and it is a real guitar. It could be used in a variety of situations and it would be perfect for someone without a lot of cash who wanted to learn how to play or as a second guitar to use in situations where you wouldn't want to bring your good one. With that said it sounds just fine. Mine keep a tune pretty well too. Although the hardware is cheap it seems to work so no complaints there. I would definately replace it, but who would steal a $50 guitar?

Made in 2004 in China. It has 20 frets on a rosewood fretboard on a nato (a softer hardwood, dents somewhat easily) neck with a 25.5" scale. The neck is fat, think of the Gibson 50's neck profile. It's supposedly a solid top and I do think it is. I took a chunk out of the top somehow (I think someone at school did that one) and the wood seems to be spruce and a decent thickness. The back and sides are of mahogany. The finish is thin and glossy. It's got the dreadnought body style. The bridge is rosewood with a plastic saddle. The tuners are Grover copies, chrome plated. Came with a manual.

How do you give features a rating on an acoustic?

Sound : 5
I like most people cover a lot of musical styles except nu metal/hardcore that sort of noise. You can play any type of music you want on this if your fingers are willing. This guitar doesn't sound all that bad. It sounds pretty clear and has a decent, sort of mellow sound. Mine has a rich sound probably because I use 13's on there. The sound can really depend on what string brand and guage you use. Stock strings, it sounded even more mellow, but it still had the clarity and alright richness, certainly not comparable to other guitars in the price range. Overall, it's an ok sound.

A middle of the road sound here in the $100-$150 price range.

Guitar was set up ok from the factory, but any guitar coming from anywhere needs a going over. The nut was cut fine as was the saddle. The frets don't stick out and were not sticking up. The inside was pretty clean and I only saw 1 glue bead in there. The only flaw was with the bridge. On the left side it was pulling up away from the body, but when I looked at it, it seems the bridge wasn't cut exactly flat at that point. It's fine and hasn't pulled up any more. The fretboard will wear, showing a reddish brown color. It's not a lot, mainly around your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd strings.

Reliability/Durability : 7
Will this guitar withstand live playing. Perhaps with better tuners and depending whether or not you like the sound. The tuners are eh...they'll hold for a day or so. My B tuner is a bit messed up, the gears are loose in there. But the tuners sit in straight and do their job ok, but if you can get ahold of some Grovers, put them on. Strap buttons are sort of small. So far, this thing really has been durable. I'm really impressed with it for a $100 (on sale from $120) guitar. I don't do much acoustic gigging, but when I do I usually don't have a backup. With an acoustic it may be ok to go without a backup.

Never had to deal with Wal-Mart or First Act. The warranty period is 2 years if you fill out the card and send it in.

I've been playing a long while now. I honestly can't remember how long, but long enough to know what I'm talking about. If it were stolen, I would get it again. If I had the money, I'd go for something a bit better because I'm a better guitarist now. The durability of this thing really impressed me. For what I paid for it, I couldn't have gotten anything better. To be honest, it's not all that bad a guitar. Nowhere near the best, but a good guitar for taking places. Like any guitar, the player will determine how it sounds.

This guitar is a 2004 made in China, 20 frets, spruce top, mahogany back and sides, nato neck, rosewood fretboard, glossy finish, rosewood bridge with plastic pins, cheap chrome plated tuners, pretty sure it has a 25" scale neck, and the guitar came with only the manual. Features are pretty much standard for an acoustic guitar.

Sound : 5
I'm really all over the place with my music, I don't stick to any one. This guitar actually doesn't have a real bad sound to it, not the best by far, but not terrible. It tends to have a hollow sound when using lighter strings. That's where this guitar really has a difference. Using lighter guages like 10's or 11's, the guitar doesn't have too full a sound. But that depends on the type and brand of strings you use also, but for the most part they all have a hollow sound when on this guitar. When you move up to 12's and especially 13's, you'll hear a lot of difference in the sound. There is a full sound, a bit mellow, but much better than with lighter strings. But like I said, that depends on the type, brand, guage, and tuning of those strings as to how it sounds. If you do get this guitar, put 12's or 13's on and it'll sound pretty good. Light strings don't sound good on this guitar. Overall a mellow sound to this guitar. You can do about any type of music on this guitar if you know how to play it. My only complaint about the sound is the tendency to be a bit mellow. But that's better than it being too bright.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
When I got the guitar, it was decently set up, but since I'm a lefty, I've flipped it over. Before I restrung it, the action did look a bit high, but that's easily fixed. The strings were old and didn't sound good when I first played it. The bracing and everything inside the guitar looked fine. There was a bit of sawdust inside of it, but get a can of that air spray and it comes out. The wood appears to be of decent quality, no noticeable flaws that I've seen. The nut was cut fine, but it's plastic. The bridge was pulled up a bit when I got it, but I've fixed that. The frets are just pressed on by the way and you may need to knock them down a bit because some were raised a bit on mine, but be careful not to scratch them if you have to.

Reliability/Durability : 6
I've done a few gigs with this guitar and it's been alright so far. The tuners will definately need replaced. There cheap tuners, chrome plated and tend to stick when you use them. Some of them when you tune down, it will take about a quarter of a turn to get them to catch again and tune. But replacements aren't hard to install. They'll hold tune alright, but don't expect them to last. The bridge pins are plastic. I'd suggest getting a pin puller and use it because it will save you from ripping up your pins. I'd get better pins down the road, but as long as you don't take pliers and rip the pins out, they'll last. The finish is a bit thin and glossy. No real areas of the finish are bad, it's just thin. The strap buttons feel solid and I've used it standing up with no problems, but strap locks aren't a bad idea for any guitar. So far, it's been my most dependable guitar. Nothing has really gone wrong with it. It is a bit cheap, but as long as you are careful and don't throw it around, it should be fine. I've used it before with no backup. I'd use it without a backup simply because the worst thing that would happen is a broken string, I don't have electronics to worry with except the pickup I put in the soundhole, but I do carry an extra one of those.

Never had to deal with the company. It comes with a two year warranty, which I think is pretty good for a cheaper guitar. I gave it a 5 because I've never had to deal with them.

Overall Rating : 6
I honestly can't remember how long I've been playing, but I'd say 2 1/2 years or so. I don't own a lot of other gear, just an SX Strat and a 10W amp. There's nothing I would've asked before I bought this guitar. I don't think anyone would steal this, nor do I plan on losing it, but if something did happen, I'd get another one. Honestly, it's not that bad. I know some people think that Wal-Mart guitar are garbage and that you have to pay a bit for a good guitar. I think it's more the player than the guitar. If you know what you're doing, you can make this guitar sound fine. I like the weight of this guitar, it's really light. I hate the tuners. But I can replace those quite easily. I didn't compare it to other guitars before I've bought it. Mainly I went with this because of the price. I needed an acoustic at the time and it was all I could afford. I wish it had better tuners, but for $100, what do you want.

If you do buy this guitar, use heavier strings, replace the nut and bridge pins, and the tuners. Maybe a bit of money involved, but overall, it's not a bad guitar. It just needs some improvements. If you're on a budget, this guitar will suit your needs. Good for begginers and a project for more experienced guitarists. There are better guitars out there, but if you can play alright, this guitar will be fine for you.
