Features : No Opinion

This is my first guitar ever and I want to know more about it so that I can know if I should continue with guitars (I used to play saxes). Please offer comments. Classical style guitar. Made by Framus Werke, style: Madrid 5/23, Serial No. 92107. Made about 1965 in Bavaria, Germany. 20/12 frets. Not cutaway. Solid cedar top. I believe solid mahogany sides. No pickup. Neck probably mahogany. Fretboard probably rosewood. Dreadnought body style. Apparently standard tuners, nothing special, gearing made of brass.

Sound : No Opinion
Fully acoustic so electronics questions irrelevant. I like jazz, R&B, Rockabilly and folk (ex-sax player from the 60s). This guitar is fun to play. Not noisy. Not buzzy. However, the middle b-flat (on the g-string) has a distinctly different timbre than other notes, sounds very dull (I don't know why); and the timbre changes a bit from note to note, but not too much.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Bought this used. Have no idea how it was set up, but it appears to have been reasonably well made. Woods seem fairly good. Finish might be real laquer and seems still in good shape. Almost no scratches. Easy to tune and stays reasonably well in tune. Due to age and to having been stored in a humid closet for 30 years, the top was a bit warped but that does not seem to affect sound. Neck straight. Bone saddle, needs replacing. Saddle fit does not seem too good but useable. No buzz.

The action seems very high (this is something I want to find out about). I have large fingers, and it is very hard to make chords because I have to press down so hard on the strings that my fingers flatten out (yes, I am doing it right).

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I would not play this guitar out of the house or out of informal settings with friends, but it is fun to do it in those settings. It is attractive to look at. It is sturdy, and does not scratch too easily, but the finish seems prone to chip, and, because of its age, I do not wish to take chances. One strap button on bottom end, and it is very solid.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Customer support issues not relevant. My local guitar shop is very helpful.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I have been playing only about 10 months. I used to play sax but respiratory problems made me stop. I bought this guitar because of connections with the sellers. It was good to learn on, and I do not regret buying it, but I should have spent a lot more time in shops and with players. If I were to buy another guitar, it would probably be a used Yairi for much more money.
