My G&L ASAT S3 is a 98 model. Mine is custom wired with a mini toggle in addition to the 5 way switch. The 5 way works like a Strat, but the mini toggle combines the pickups to play all three together or neck and bridge, middle and bridge and middle and neck. It really has a lot of variety. The pickups are G&L alnico single coil. The finish is Red Metalflake. Rosewood fretboard. Hard molded G&L case.

It's the best of both worlds with a bright, biting Tele sound or an out of phase Strat sound. The mini toggle gives it almost endless possibilities. What's not to like..... I love it. It is built like a tank and all the parts are very heavy and well made.

Perfect. Even though I bought it used, it had no dings, scratches or any wear. Everything fits tightly and has top notch hardware. Controls are quiet and tight.

I would play any day without a backup. I wouldn't need a second guitar with the sound combinations I can get out of this one. Very dependable.

Great guitar for all styles of playing. Really sounds good through my Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue. I can't think of any improvements for this guitar. If it were lost or stolen, I would try and find another one, but would have a hard time for sure wired like mine.

This is a very special '99, originally made in the U.S but re-arranged to fit in a coverband who loves the best boogie-rockers in the world: The UK-band "Status Quo". 22 frets solid top (the serialnumber is CLF15459..) and was born in California in September 1999, wood-like with black fretboard.. And that is history..
Now it has that green colour I wanna have, with white fretboard and LaceSensor-pickups', I wouldn't change it for anything in the world!!
You may think I'm crazy, but this guitar makes me feel me!

This guit suits the band like a hand in a glove. We play boogie-rock music.. It's kinda cool having a GREEN guitar too!! I use Marshall JCM900 all the time. That's the best amp in the world!!! My effects is some quite cheap but easy to use.. (hmm is it KORG or... hmmm) I think it doesn't matter... If you know how to play, you know what to use... Every master is his own, right?! It sounds right to me! I get the sound just the way I like! The guit is numbero uno, the amp is kello 2 and the effects sumbrero69..
I was little disappointed when sliding on it! It dies..... The sound just fades away.. So my opinion is that it ain't a good slide-guit... I don't slide that much in our band so I quit.. But if I have to, I chose another one (with humbuckers on, like Gibson SG, for example..)

It already stands live playing.. It goes of tuning most of the time. I have to tune it after playing for an hour... It shoudn't be so... I think there's something too weak somewhere.. And the guit shoots strings very often... I'm a bender, I bend very hard ('10s is the smallest) The ones who goes off is mostly g's and d's... Probably bending to much... That's a problem... I had a Gibson SG before and that one never did that.. So that's because I always have to have a backup' all the time... I have done everything I know of, not making it shoot strings... It doesn't help... Maybe it ain't wrong of the guit.. It's the way of playing it... But look at Jimi Hendrix... He bended hard and kept the tune all the time... Why shouldn't it be possible on my guitar...?

Bought new in 2001 custom ordered from Matt's Music in Mass. Tele-style Tobacco sunburst with tinted birdseye maple neck, perloid pickguard and locking tuners. Three large "MFD" single coil pickups in strat type arrangement. Five way switch with standard Tele-style volume and tone knobs. 25.5" scale with medium frets. Body is poplar, which is pretty heavey, but gives plenty of bass response. Nothing radical, but well executed. Could use an extra mini-switch to provide N/B pickup combo, or all three at once. They do this on the Legacy model

I play rock, blues, pop, and the occasional jazz number. I use Seymour Duncan amps with minimal effects - volume pedal, Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive, and Marshall Chorus (rarely). This guitar can be just about anything you want. For me, G&L pickups are the best. They have single coil clarity, with punch and drive that most humbuckers can't match. This guitar will produce chimey Strat sounds, thick and punchy, or twang with minimal noise. Very open sounding, with plenty of harmonics and shimmer. No problem cutting through the the mix. The only pickup setting I have no use for is middle-only. It's kind of bright-honky and to me, unpleasant. However, it combines well with the Neck and Bridge pickups. The N/M setting is typical bluesy-nasal and could use a bit more treble. The M/B position is great twangy, poppy, out-of-phase strat (Think Steely Dan's "My Old School"). Neck only is much more powerful than a strat pickup, but retains the classic sound with increased dynamics. G&L's have a very high output, and can easily overdrive sensitive preamp sections. Also because of high output and wide freqeuncy response, they can be overly bright. If you plug into an amp set up for a typical Fender, you may get blasted. It takes a different amp EQ, which can be a problem let's say if you want to jump between an ASAT and a Rick with the same amp.

This is my fourth G&L and the finish on every one has been perfect. They are great looking guitars, with very high quality hardware, and excellent woods. The gun-oil tinted birdseye maple neck is stunning and a highly recommended option. The action on this guitar is good, but not the best of my G&L's. The action is a little higher (>.060 at 22nd fret) than I would like, but it's not "bad". G&L necks have a slimmer profile than Fenders and the 7 1/2" fingerboard radius is great for chords and solo work. These necks are not Gibson/Carvin/PRS fast, but the longer scale and string tension makes them great guitars to play hard.

The only thing I do to the guitars is add strap locks. These are rugged, simple guitars with no cheap stuff that is going to break off. The finishes are beautiful but durable, and have remained ding-free (unlike a Rickenbacker I once had). The bridge saddles are smooth and ditto for the nut. I've never broken a string on any G&L. No need for a backup.

Ten year warrenty, and some parts are available direct, the rest via dealers. The only issue with G&L is that your closest dealer may not be that close. This is not a Guitar Center type guitar, and I was surprised to see a couple in the Musician's Friend catalog (at not so great pricing). Go to the website, pick out want you want, and find a dealer to custom order it from. They'll do just about anything you want.

I've been playing mostly Fender Tele-type guitars for almost 30 years. There are lots of other guitars I like to look at, but I exclusively play G&L's. Sound and quality of materials are the two greatest features. The pickups are excellent, and while they create the basic Fender sound, they also go way beyond that. If it were lost or stolen I would buy another immediately. Unless you're in a Metallica cover band, this guitar will just about do it all. G&L's are the hidden gem of affordable hand made American Guitars.

My ASAT S-3 is a 2000 model bought used from a dealer in Pennsylvania. I saw the guitar before buying only on the internet. The guitar is Cherry Sunburst in color. The body wood is Ash and the neck is a combination of maple bi-cut neck and rosewood fingerboard. The rosewood used on this guitar is so dark it looks like ebony, but is not. The guitar has 3 MFD (Leo Fender designed) pickups and a 5 way selector switch. The tuners are Sperzel locking tuners which are a nice touch. The bridge is a sold, locking bridge and the strings do NOT go through the body, only through the bridge. There are 22 frets that are medium to jumbo. (I'd actually like a little smaller frets.) There is a volume and a tone knob and they are quite responsive. Overall, this is a killer looking and playing guitar. The neck radius is 7.5" and the neck is fairly small. It has everything you could want in a tele bodied, 3 pickup guitar.

With three pickups, this guitar does the tele as well as a pretty good strat "thing". The bridge pickup is the first of it's kind that I have liked. Pretty good twang here and really hits the front end of my amp hard. The br/mid position yields an excellent semi-strat quack. I love this position. The mid position is a rock and roll dream. Just set it and play all the R&R you know. I don't care much for the mid/neck setting. Would rather have a neck/bridge setting. The neck pickup is why you should own one of these. It's killer for blues all the way. Very excellent sounding guitar. I think the singles are a little noisy but nothing out of the ordinary. Wonderful tones that could be made better with a toggle switch or push/pull pot to get bridge/neck setting. I may add this.

This guitar, though bought used, is perfect. Not a mark on it. The neck pocket, a real key area to me, is also tight as can be. Every facet of this guitar says "quality". I wouldn't change a thing.

I believe this would be the only guitar I'd could take to a gig and be comfortable. It is a solid as the proverbial rock in my mind. Finish is wonderful. I changed the strap buttons to Schaller locking buttons for safety and am confident this one would take a lot of road use and do well. It's a G&L! Made to last. Handmade, too.

I have used G&L Customer Support for other guitars and have no complaints. I hope to NOT have to use them for this guitar. They have always treated me fairly and even helped locate a bass case for a used G&L bass I bought on ebay. Very good customer care. I'm a strong G&L supporter.

I've been playing guitar for a over 30 years. I've been looking for a tele bodied, three pickup guitar that was flexible and this is it. I've owned two pickup ASATs before, but this one is way better. I just like being able to dial in a strat tone as well as the tele tone, jazz tone, rock tone and etc. I cannot understand why G&L does not make this guitar any longer. It's a keeper and I'm going to start looking for a backup for this one. It's a beautiful instrument, well cared for and a keeper. As I said above, I may add the expander toggle, but other than that it's just that way I would want it to be.

This is a 98 made in California. 22 frets, Ash body, maple neck and board. 3 G&L high output single coils, 1 volume, 1 tone, 5 way switch. This one has a beautiful see through butterscotch finish (between butterscotch and TV yellow). Fixed bridge w/ string through. Locking tuners. Tele body.

Very versatile guitar. A little more hollowed out than a Strat, but when overdriven, it fills out better than a strat. I play throuhg various Boogie amps. It is a little noisy, but not too bad. It is full sounding with nice bright overtones.

I've been playing for 23 years, and I've tried them all. The G&L is far and away the best dollar value American built guitar out there right now (for bolt on necks). It's got the sounds and it has a definate vibe to it. It's very comfortable to play, and holds it's tune very well.
