US Made in 1999. This is a "tele" style thinline body with one f hole, two G&L single coil pickups (very p-90 like only with more range), bolt-on maple neck with maple fingerboard, single three-way switch, sinlge tone and volume controls. The bridge/tail is G&L's unique locking bridge that is very nicely done. The body is made of real swamp ash. This thing is a cherry sunburst with a two piece bookmatched top. The neck radius is 7.5 inches with medium jumbo frets. It came with it's own hard shell case.

This is the instrument I pick up to play most often. The two single coils are very surprising in their tonal range. They also can go from bell like clear to pretty crunchy distortion. I play a range of music from classic rock to a very little country to alternative to pop tunes... Also an aspiring jazz/rock player. I just like most music! The single coils are remarkably quite - there is a slight hum with either pickup used alone. Put them both on and the hum goes away. I'm currently playing this with a Mesa Boogie Mark III. I'm pretty much a plug and play person... but the Boogie gives me some pretty neat choices. I really like this guitar clean... it just captures the sounds I heard as a teenager that got me wanting to play guitar. I also like the way the thing can get some very cool classic rock sounds when used with the Boogies 2nd channel... think Leslie West in his earlier Mountain days. I lead channel can really crank, but the G&L is not a full blown shred guitar by any stretch of the imagination. All in all, this guitar has a great range of tones, can move from very clean to buttery crunch to respectable cranking distortion... without losing any definition.

G&L's may be one of the most under rated values out there today. This instrument was flawless... although I suspect the folks at the shop in State College, PA (the Alley Cat) don't put anything out on the floor unless it's properly set up. The cherry burst is just spectatular. I own several highly flamed guitars and my friends often oh and ah over them first... Almost to a person, however, they get to the G&L and spend a lot of time drooling over the burst on this thing. The frets were very nicely shaped and playable. The round (7.25) radius of the neck might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it fits my aging curved fingers rather well. Only complaint is the jack. It, as other have said in these pages, cut in and out. It's a blemish in an other wise very high quality guitar. I take off one point for this.

Reliability/Durability : 9
It's a pretty solid player. It gets bumped around and played when it's hot an sweaty, but it's holding up pretty well. I put locking straps on all my guitars, and I think it would foolish for anyone to play live without a backup. Too many guitars go down at the hands of some well meaning stage hand that drops it or kicks the stand its in and over it goes. Once again, however, the jack is not appropriate for serious live play. You got to replace it if you don't want problems.

Haven't dealt with them, but I really should over the poor quality of the jack. Oh, well, I honestly don't know.

Other main instruments include a Taylor K20; a Les Paul Standard, A BC Rich SLP made in USA Mockingbird; a Yamaha custom acoustic, and an Ibanez AS 180 (think Gibson 335. Yeah, i'd get another one of these if I lost this one. In fact, it's a yearly battle of the budget that keeps me from getting another one just to have two of 'em... I really like it this much. Favorite feature is the sounds this is capable of followed by the lightness of the hollow sound chambered body and the easy playability. I've owned two Fender tele thinlines (one MAJ and one USA one). The G&L kicks both of these in the butt, and those two had humbuckers... the G&L covers that sound much better than they do yet still gets that clear chime of a single coil.

Made in USA in 1999, with a green metallic flake finish, an f-hole, 2 sopabar style single coils, 3 pick up selector, a tone and volume control, birds eye maple neck, Alder body I think, tele style bridge, standard G&L tuners, standard neck, and pearloid pickguard.

Sound : 10
This guitar does it all, fat rock leads, pop leads, even country sounds, can sound like a Gibson ES 135 in the bass position. It can do jangly rhthym, or hard core zeppelin, and there is no better blues guitar. Think anywhere from REM, U2, Crowded House to Zeppelin, and T-Rex, crazy variety. This guitar does it all and pretty much better than all. You won't get a les paul sustain out of it, but thats about it. This is the only guitar I have that sounds good through all my amps: Matchless DC 30, Old Vox AC 30, Fender Tonemaster, TOPHAT ambassador, Marshall Plexi, Jamison amp, DR. Z MAZ 38, Budda twinmaster, even circuit board amps like Orange etc. You won't do better trust me. It out teles any Fender, and I've owned them all. For a close second try the 1998 Fender Collectors Telecaster - Fender's best Tele since the early 70's.

From the factory it was close to perfect, after an easy setup its the easiest guitar to play I've ever owned, including Gibsons, Fenders, Gretschs, Rickys. Unbelievable metal flake finish - so 3D you'll blind your friends, I own other G&L's and in geneal they are great, but this one is mind blowing fast with perfect action. I just can't say enough good things about it, I've had it for a year, and I've never grown board of its tone.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Have giiged, will gig, and am gigging with this guitar. Listen, she's built to last. I'd never gig without a back up guitar, strings break, but I do wish I had 2 so that would not be an issue. The finish is so strong, the neck so natural, I think it would take the most acidic sweat in the world to cause lots of damage.

Never had to deal with them, and I suspect I will never have to. This Guitar is perfect.

I would replace this guitar, and at the price they are selling its a joke that any professional player that is not into death metal does not own one (not that there's anything wrong with death metal, just not my style man). You can get a glitter top hollowbody at indoorstorm.com in gold or red for a ridiculous 750 US brand new. If I had the dough I'd buy 2 or 3. This guitar looks as good as it sounds. I've owned and continue to own many guitars, some are nice and even damn good, but none as versatile and as killer for almost every application, in almost any amplifier. If G&L thinlines aren't in your life, you ought to give them a try, I bet you'd blow your mind comparing it to a USA Fender Tele, and in genereal G&L is cheaper. I can't believe this company has not taken over the tele and strat market. I just can't say enough!
