Made 1995 in Fullerton, California USA. Ash body with clear coated natural finish, maple neck with a cool bit of flaming around the back middle of the neck, rosewood fretboard with 12'radius, Shallar Floyd Rose, Seymour Duncan humbucker (JB?) in the bridge.

The single coil pickups in the neck and bridge must be G&L Magnetic Feild Design pickups(thee best), because they sound identical. They only differ in looks. Good tuners. Probably shallar as well. I've never made the time to look up there for the name because I'm too busy playing. Hardware is all black.

The Climax is no frills straight to the point. It has an understated look that draws attention to your playing rather than the flowers on your guitar. The sound though is talored for that 86' through 91' hair metal sound. If you like the Warren D' martini, and George Lynch style of play then this guitar is perfect.

Sound : 9
This guitar has a very bright sound to it. It is probably the 1K tone pots that have something to do with it, and the fact that it is very light for ash and it has an All Access Neck Joint. It took a little getting used to, but this guitar has a different personality.

It goes from screaming solos on the Duncan, to the best blues "Stevie Ray" sound in milliseconds just by switching to the neck pickup and turning the volume down by half. The switching is smooth and balanced. The sound level is pretty consistant throughout all the pickup settings. Pretty level and predictable like it should be.

Harmonics fly off this guitar in the best shredder/divebomber way possible. I believe this is because it has the standard 22 frets. This is the best in my opinion for wailing on guitars. 24 frets get more notes, but 22 have the best harmonics because the harmonic node is right under your finger where you are fretting instead of on top of the fret like some 24 fret guitars. It allows me at least, to have more harmoniclly happy accidents.

The tone knob gets the creamy Santana sound pretty good when rolled back on the humbucker pickup, but it is not a PRS so it's more of a G&L Climax kind of sound.

Like I said, this is a bright sounding guitar. Initially I was so-so on the sound, but after a year with this guitar, I have learned to really appreciate what G&L was thinking when they built it. play on the strengths of it, and reap the benefits. It is a Phenomal studio guitar, ultimate shedder guitar, and always cuts through the mix in any situation.

Understated Beauty seems to be the theme of this guitar. Very simple color scheme with the all black hardware, and natural finish. I like how the black paint kind of wore off the whammy bar. It gives it that "OoOOOh that guy must play alot" look. There is a tensioner screw on the whammy bar so you can tighten it to your liking without having to deal with plastic bushings wearing out which I also like. Neck has a fast satin finish.

There are some quirks to this thing that make it different. The neck is pointed a hair downward for some reason. Perhaps it is for easier access to the upper frets, I don't know. Maybe it helps the intonation a bit since the intonation is as good as they come. But it puts the strings pretty close to the side of the fretboard. I have to be a little more careful about my vibrato on the high E string, but I have gotten used to it.

It also, dosen't have a string tree of any kind. Why? I don't know. I feel that this may have been a experimental precurser to the current invader and the quirks give the feeling of uniqueness Kind of makes it special to me; like an extension of my imperfect self.. I like that I can play the strings at the headstock and make them sound much more 'harp like'. You can't do that as well when there is a string tree.

I compared this thing to my Ibanaz Jem 7VW with Edge pro trem. While the Jem was obviously a nicer looking guitar, and sounded a slight bit better(it should for $2200) I started to play this one more because it had that Fender neck, and the older style floyd was much more fun! I relate it to a roller coaster ride; it's just that much more fun when you are higher up in the air! And the dive bombs are huge. Something about the older style Floyd rose that just does it for me.

The fretboard is super-wide. It's like a football field! You can tapp to your hearts delight effortlessly, and the neck has a wizard type profile to it. A bit skinny for my tastes, but now I'm used to it and I play off the guitar's strengths anyway. It is one mean, fast, kick ass and take names guitar, that will be there for you time and time again.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I rarely break strings with this guitar if I use Earnie Ball regular slinkey 9 guage and have a proper set up. Not too low because the tone dissapears when there is not the right balance of neck string tension.

Durability: It' never been really dinged the finish on anything, but I probably won't mind much when it does. The clear coat natural finish makes it hard to see dings anyway. This guitar has a utilitly look to it anyways cause' it's meant to be a player not an ornimate. I give it an "8.5" only because it dosent feel as hearty as my neck-thru Washburn Eagle. But then again, nothing does. That thing weighs like 11lbs compared to like 7 (this ones easier on my back and is more fun to play though).

If it were lost or stolen, I would seek out another one immediatly while they are still cheap. This thing is basiclly a G&L Invader. Try to buy one of those USA made ones for around $400. Shaaa! Good luck!

Never had to deal with them. I've found that G&L folks are good folks though.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for about 20 years now. I've been around the block and owned many guitars. I really like ash/rosewood fretboard strats, and this guitar fits the bill.(It's a Fender Strat, only much more fun)

That being said, I give this guitar a 10 for Value. For the $412 I paid, I feel that I got $1500 worth of USA made quality, which it is. This is one of those "closet" sleeper, type guitars that nobody really knows about since they made the G&L Invader for a while, then changed the name to Climax for 4 years or so, then changed back to Invader, the current model.

Sooner or later, word is gonna get out, and they will all be bought up. If you want a well made, versitle G&L shedder guitar with some bad boy PERSONALITY, I highly reccomend this axe.

22 fret rosewood (I can't tell if that or ebony), floyd rose, h/s/s, volume and tone control, 5 way switch.

Sound : 10
This guitar, with the Seymour Duncan Humbucker in the bridge and two single coils (I'm assuming they're G&L's), is awesome. I play lead guitar in a death metal band, and she is perfect for raw, aggressive playing, she sounds so death especially distorted through my Marshall JCM2000 Head routed into a Carvin cab. She more than suits my playing.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The finish is an odd, kinda '80's looking marble graphic finish, pretty fast action, all and all set up very well. The only reason I didn't give a 10 is because restringing Floyd Roses are a pain in the ass, but I've done it successfully on my own countless times.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar will more than likely withstand live playing, as she has been used live and recording demos. I do have a backup on hand, an ESP LTD M-300, in case a string breaks on me while playing live. I recently restrung her with a set of Dean Markley .10's, as we are planning on recording some songs in the studio and I want the guitar to be in top playing shape.

I've never dealt with the company and don't believe I ever will have to.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing since I was 11, I just recently turned 20, and have no intentions of putting the guitar down. If this guitar was lost or stolen, I would find the asshole responsible and beat his ass. This guitar is one of my most valued possesions, she's my baby and I make sure she's in the utmost shape. I am most pleased with what I got.

A sound is cool. It has a long sond when I bend or vibration I got a pretty long sound. This guitar is good for rock , hardrock and heavy

with this system I get a great sound I mean really great but when I play my fender' 83 I forget my G&l .

Guitar was made in 94'in Cali,USA. It has 22frets. .It has a 2 singles in the neck and 1 SD-JB in the bridge. Electronics are passive. The neck is Maple w/bicut construction. Finish is a sparkle green. It has the soloist style body, and a Floydrose. Tuners are standard opentop G&L's. Neck scale is slightly smaller than a LP standard. And came with it's own HSC. Guitar was bought in 94 and I bought it April 20,98 and is in excellent condition, so I really lucked out. This is the guitar the Invader line is modeled after.

Sound : 8
The Humbucker in the Bridge is great for rock or metal. The single in the neck is FANTASTIC. When I switched from the Humbucker to the single I couldn't believe my eye's G&L has made a fantastic single for this model. Nice warm tone with the tone turned down. The sound is kinda of bright but perfect for blues with the single in the neck. Electronics are really quiet.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
This guitar was bought from the orginal owner but he had it set up really low and since I'm no shredder I have raised it a little. Pickups were adjusted just right. No flaws at all.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Haven't had the chance to use it live yet.

I've been playing for about 2 years but have really excelled. If it were stolen I would find another and hunt every pawnshop guitar store within 100 miles. Favorite feature is the Floyd since I've only had a LP and never could do the whammy thing. I compared this to a Jackson PS-4.
