2005 I think. Alder body, maple neck, gun-oil finish. Hard-tail bridge. It is one well crafted solid piece of wood.

Sound : 10
I play it through a Peavey 5150 and a Marshall JCM 900. Tone is exactly what I want. Distorted: Lots of power and drive, not overbearing, great pinch harmonics, great sustain. Clean: sounds great -- mellow and punchy at the same time. I don't know if it is the wood, the build quality, or the pickups but this is the nicest sounding guitar I own -- or have ever owned, and I own a few.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
no flaws, but I bought mine used.

Reliability/Durability : 10
The guitar is built like a tank. It is the best built guitar I have ever owned -- and I own a Gibson Les Paul (faded mahogany), Gibson SG (standard), Ibanzes RG 570 (Japanese made). I owned a '97 Clapton strat that I sold soon after I bought my 2hb legacy. The Clapton strat is a joke compared to this guitar -- the Clapton feels like mass produced junk compared to this guitar. I also own an ASAT, the ASAT is of the same build quality.

Customer Support : No Opinion
haven't needed to use customer support

I've been playing 20 years, and this is the best guitar I have ever owned, with maybe the exception of the G&L ASAT. If I lost this guitar, I'd buy another G&L legacy -- either the 1HB or 2HB. I only have two regrets. I think I'd rather have swamp ash than alder -- but am not sure BTW -- and I'd rather have the dual-fulcrum trem than a hard-tail. But these are really minor points given the price I paid and the quality of the guitar.

Two guitars special ordered, USA Custom shop. White pearloid pickguards & white humbuckers. Guitar#1 Ash/RW Redburst. Guitar#2 Ash/Maple Redburst. Both are gorgeous to boot and impeccable craftsmanship, clap clap, clap! This is a company that seems to care tremendously about each of it's guitars going out the factory door. Seymour Duncan JB (TB4) bridge & 59 Neck. Three way switch and single dpdt switch coil taps both pickups, and a single switch is extremely practical playing live. Single volume, dual tone. I have never liked Strat 5-way switches. Position #2 and #4 were never matched on any pickup configuration. The middle position was always useless.
My fav LP position is the middle rhythm combining both humbuckers. This does that perfectly ** a real rhythm position **. On Strats, regardless of pickup configuration, and I've tried everything out there cowpokes, you either get a real good Clapton tone on position 4 and lose the SRV magic on 2 or vice versa. It always sucks where something is disproportionate to something else. THIS G&L CONFIGURATION IS GENIUS. Position 1 is full series TB4, position 2 (middle) is a true LP rhythm, and Position 3 (Neck) is fat 59 woman tone. Want a balanced Strat position 3 and 4 --hit the coil tap. Somebody fiannly thought this one through! Medium jumbo frets. I am basically a Nashville modern player playing every genre of music in the studio and on the road, and this pickup configuration has been my preference for over 20 years. I do not play floyd rose guitars anymore as these are a pain to manage live, but this G&L patented dual fulcrum system is as sweet as it gets barring none. When I tried out a friend's production Legacy, I fell in love with it. It felt right in my hands immediately, the tremolo was perfect, and the set up perfect from California to the east coast. G&L makes a lot of its production line with really fat and thick necks that I don't care for personally. I specifically told the sales person when I ordered it over the phone that I wanted a standard radius neck. He listened! I give it a ten, becasue this is all the features any guitar needs. The magic is in your fingers boys and girls period. These are minimalist player's guitars at half the cost of Tylers, PRS, or anything else. If you are a seeker, I guarantee you will become a finder once you pick one of the babies up. I better shup up now before I am accuced of being a salaried G&L poster child.

I am an ash or mahogany guitar manic. I have never favored Alder bodies with Semour Duncans -- a match made in hell. Back when I was a teenager, I toured for a year with Alder/RW Kramer American pacers with TB4B/S/S 5-way. Too bright and piercing, and had to constantly overcompensate my marshall eq for that and hated it. I play Mesa boogies now for over 10 years, and these Ash guitars magnify the amp tone to cover any genre of music from Blues Rock, to Popular, to Modern Coountry, Hard Rock, Metal, and Blues. Strat to LP tones with very lovely Alnico V single coil tap. Sweet sweet sweet tones and harmonics to die for. I own two Custom 52 Teles with Joe Bardens for specific Tele tonality work, a Les Paul Custom Shop Black Beauty 3-pickup with 59N/AlnicoIIN/59B with custom wiring for the big fat mahogany dark sound. For jazz/big band I stick to my custom Nashville 335 and that's covers all my bases. If I had to leave everything else home and grab two guitars a combo and pedal board -- the G&Ls go out the door into the van. This is as good as it gets.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
As mentioned above, the neck setup, craftsmanship, and pickup height setting was impeccable from the factory. Kudos. I am so impressed with this company that I've decided to order two more after XMAS exactly the same but in Cherry Sunburst, and maybe the ASAT Deluxe hollow-body mahogany, maple top, fixed bridge models.

Dumb question. It was designed by Leo Fender. How many Strats have not withstood the rigors of the road over the years? You always carry a backup regardless of MFG. Remember those things you put your fingers on, what were they called again? Oh yeah, the strings ... yup, they break occasionally ...

I spoke to the rep when I ordered it over the phone. These folks listen to what you have to say, and the turnaround was only four weeks. He had told me to expect to wait ten. Excellent spirited team over yonder at the pacific rim.

Playing for over 20 years. Mesa boogie double 4x12 stack touring rig/ Lexicon MPXG2, Digitech SGS 2101A, Korg DTR1, BBE 462, Furman AR1215, Dual Randall RG75 combos 1x12 with JBL E-120s. Two Custom pedal boards. Two 52 Teles, Two custom Teles (EMG), Custom Nashville Tele 3-pu, Kramer Pacer EMG, Predator Van Zandt Blues, Nashville ES335 Custom Shop, LP Custom Shop 3-pu, 75 Fender Jazz Bass, Carvin Bass studio rig, Alesis QS8, V-10 Drums, Sabian HH Cymbals, & Recording Mastering studio.

Buy again: Yes
Stolen: Would reorder immediately w/o blinking an eye.
Compared to: Dan Grosh, Tyler, Anderson. Great guitars but too much money and hype for the same bang for the buck from the G&Ls tone wise and craftsmanship wise. IMHO, this is the biggest bang for the buck in the industry.
Wish it had? Nothing more. Perfect as is.

Custom order black, chrome hardware, mirror pickguard, black headstock, 2 seymours neck59,jb on the bridge, rosewood, trem minitoggle.....Just came out this year. Beautiful guitar...Dave Mclaren at G&L convinced me to go with the black, I wanted the sparkle black, but he assured this axe was gonna be bad ass! He was right on. I have never seen a G&L which didnt just sparkle, the paint job on these things are like beautiful exotic Italian, no American Race cars. The frets were nicely spaced, I wanted a slim neck and I got one which was really fast and comfortable. Not as thin as my Charvel surfcaster but a perfect fit. Body is Alder. This is a full on Goth Machine.

Sound : 10
This guitar is perfect for the style of music I play, which goes from punk to kravitz style classic rock to pure guitar pop. I can get thick sounds, like a Les Paul and go to more straty type of sounds, but better. The neck plays like butter and the body is light, but you can feel the notes resonate into your body like all good guitars do. I run a peavey classic 50 2-12,looped line6,mxr time delay, dod eq. From the guitar I go bigmuff to vox wah and to the amp...pretty basic. The tones I get are clear and clean, buttery, sweet, with enough gain for punk or metal or whatever I want. My drummer has a Legacy Special and his sounds sweet but different than mine. He loves this guitar. Im thinking about getting another one!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Action? Could have been lower, but just fine. No flaws at all, perfectly made instrument, well crafted....better than any Fender I have played.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I have used it once for gigging and no problems, I am sure I wont have any problems. I will always take a back up guitar, I have a 70's Ibanez Artist which is really heavy...I could always snag my drummers Legacy Special!

These guys are the best!

On and off for 19 years. I would get another one for sure, I am a G&L devotee for the rest of my life! Fenders blow compared to G&ls. If you like Fenders, you will love G&L. If you love Fenders, You will worship G&L. Buy a G&L...You will buy a G&L! The tone is the best, no the feel, no the looks....its all good!
