This guitar is an enigma. It is really hard to put your finger on this one ..It has only one M.F.D pup yet is very versatile due to the tone and volume knob ..I have never seen a guitar that the tone knob could change the sound so much with such little movement..Which ends up giving more sounds then most multi pick up guitars..The sound that comes from this guitar can sometimes be a little to bright..But with an EQ it sounds fantastic..For some reason this guitar works wonders with an EQ ..It will go from a good sounding guitar to a great sounding more so than any other guitar i have ever played..Works great for every thing from Blues classic rock to hard rock..I don't know about metal as heavy as i go is Iron Maiden and some Priest on rare occasions..

This i guarantee every guitar player i have known that has tried this guitar says the same thing and this includes some guitar players whose names you would recognize. That it is the best neck they have ever played. That is no exaggeration..Every guitar player that has played it says it...I don't think i will ever play a smoother playing neck it would be a miracle..That is why this single pickup guitar that they only made 250 of cost 1200 dollars now..

I have never had an issue with this guitar..No problems so i have no problems using it by itself although i don't because i play in several different tunings and therefore need more then 1 guitar..

G&L is one of the most costumer friendly companies out there so i wouldn't think it would be a problem...

I have been playing the better part of 30 years..I mostly play the blues with classic rock and old rock and roll thrown in...If it was lost or stolen i guarantee i would find it..It would not be that hard to find as there is only 84 of the original 250 known to exist and there only 4 red ones left and mine is one of them..There would be no way to replace this guitar due to the rarity.I paid $150 for this guitar with the OHSC..I had the guitar apprised at $2400..So it was a very lucky find for me and never expect to have that luck again

Standard black model with vibrato from 1982. Mustang body style, maple? body, 1 single coil G&L style ASAT pickup. 21 frets on a maple board.

Pickup is quiet but quite bright as mentioned above. My ASAT is no wear near as bright. Pickups or body wood? I dunno, but it does stay clean and cuts through, even if a little grating at times... Best sounds are clean lead tones. Not a rhythm machine!

This guitar has seen many a bar! It no where near new or a new set up so no comment on factory set ups. The neck does have a rising tongue between the 17th and 21st frets. Pretty common on the early SCs I've seen. I'll have the board leveled when I refret it. Good routing (only one pickup!), Frets always seemed a bit thinner towards the neck but that's probably due to past fret levels and the rising tongue.

This guitar is a tank. It withstands whammy abuse pretty well with little or no noticeable wear to the trem. I attest this to Leo's dual point trem design. It's light years ahead of any of the vintage fender style trems. I don't know about using it without a back up as I only use it for a few songs throughout the night. The sound is very one dimensional and not cut out for an only axe. What it does it does well, but if I could only have one guitar it wouldn't be the SC!

Asked G&L about a replacement neck and they laughed. Seems they don't want anything to do with the Leo era guitars so customer service is non-existent. I was told by the G&L rep that since the BBE takeover they changed the neck/body route dimensions and will not make old style necks. Not only will they not make them, they won't license anyone to make them in the after market. Pretty lame...

Been playing 30 plus years, own a two other G&Ls (ASAT and Legacy), ESP 400 Series 21 fret Strat (way nice!), 2004 Gibson Custom Shop 1957 POS!!! Goldtop (high fret board at the body joint that Gibson refuses to fix!), Hohner double bound Tele Custom copy MIK (very nice tone!), Electra XV410 Jazz Strad 335 copy. These go through a '68 Fender Dual Showman head through a 100 watt four ten Mojo cab. Old Butler and Smith rack mount Real Tube pre amp, Ibanez TS9, and a vintage DOD analog delay. Playing blues, roots and classic rock in the style of ZZ, Zep, Muddy Waters and Stones.

u.s. made, early G&L model, has mostly the musicman guitar features. small mustang sized and shaped body with full size neck and full scale lenght (25 1/2) alder body with maple neck and f-board one large G&L single coil looks sorta like a p-90. less than 250 were made.no pick guard.very simple in design and very functional guitar

the large single coil is real hot. a ton of output but a little on the bright side, not real warm like the p-90. very quiet you can do a lot with it with a good amp. clean and chimey and with the high output, will get good and dirty and remain clear. only complaint is it can be too bright.

the neck joint is real tight. its made very well like all leo fender designs. the best feature on this guitar is the neck. the neck is full scale but its thin and not as wide as a full scale neck. large frets, and about one of the most compfortable and fastest ive played. i wouldnt mind putting it on a full sized body. this guitar gets a 10 for the neck only.

been playing for 21 years, bought it for the price and mainly because it was a product of leo fender and it turned out to be fantastic. wish it had more pickups, the SC-2 and SC-3 have 2 and 3 pickups but cant locate one of them. only give it an 8 for being so limited but the neck alone gets a 10.
