Everything is made of birch, except for the fingerboard and bridge which are east indian rose wood. It's a 2001 from somewhere in Canada. They made up for the horrible beer with this guitar. Just an acousitic, but you have the option to have Fishman electronics factory installed. But really, why? My purpose for getting an acoustic was so I wouldn't have to be plugged in all the time. I bought it for $389 American. That inlcuded a great hard case which was about $80.

Sound : 9
Really deep, "bassy" sound. Far better than anything I played around the same price range. I tried Yamahas, Fender, Takamine, Ibanez, and Gibsons, plus whatever else I saw but can't remember. All full size guitars. I'm not comparing this to some crappy slimline acoustic; they were all fullsize guitars.
As far as the setup I play with goes, I use a 1mm pick.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
I'm no expert on guitars and have always just played mine as-is. I don't want to risk screwing something up and having to drop more money into my brand new guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 9
As far as gigging goes, I wouldn't ever play without a backup if possible, but this guitar wouldn't give you any problems. If I wanted to mic it up, I wouldn't think twice about using this. On second thought I would, considering I play punk rock!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had any problems and don't plan to.

I can only give this a nine. Afterall, nothing is perfect.

bought the new g10 in boston at cambridge music, very happy, second guitar, just learning to play but was not happy with my starter (an old harmony with some problems). info is at garrisonguitars.com regarding all the features woods, etc. extremely clean look, nice finish, sort of corny etching but that's okay. came with a kick-ass hard case that would have been 100 on it's own, guess garrison is doing serious discounting to get these into market. also saw the g20 but honestly did not see the reason because i'm am not that good yet.

the coolest thing is that it has this option to create and plug in an optional acoustic pick up without the gear pre-installed, i guess a whole piece cleanly pops out or something, which is very cool.

i looked at dozens of new and used deans, yamahas, sigmas, harmonies, etc and landed on this.

Sound : 9
i'm truly new to this, so the sound is great to me, nice deep and rich tones when i play correctly. not using an amp yet. no apparent buzzing aside from my own faults! i actually asked the pro in the store to play some riffs and he really liked it on scales etc..

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
totally well built, cool advanced technology in construction. also, of particular interest as a beginner is that the strings are very low and close to the frets which makes it a little easier for me while learning. everything else is clean, nice bow in the back from the bracing system, very playable neck, good string spacing

Reliability/Durability : 10
this thing will last forever in the case, hardware seems totally solid. finish is fine, matte is thin by design on front, shiny in back, nice clean black edges, also very heavy which i personally prefer,i like it feels to hold it in my lap while playing as opposed to a really light guitar...

Customer Support : 9
haven't needed it yet, though they have a 5 year warranty!

Overall Rating : 10
totally new to guitar, very serious, been playing at least one to two hours every day for over a month, like the classic learning stuff (cat stevens, beatles, dylan, etc) and i love the sound on this when i play correctly. at 300, including the hard case! this was the most kick-ass 'upscale' starter guitar i've ever seen (for the new category) and i'm psyched that i got it. i suspect that i will not be looking to upgrade for quite a while, perhaps never? this thing is under serious warranty, has the pick-up option for an amp and is totally solid outside of the case anyways...as long as my boys don't beat the hell out of it!

Made in Newfoundland, Canada. All solid wood (Canadian birch top, back and sides). Included a hardshell Garrison guitar case. It's a beautiful full size acoustic dreadnaught. Satin finish. The inner bracing is quite unusual. It's made essentially of Glass resin strands! This is known as the Griffiths Active Bracing System, and is the reason that a high quality, north american made guitar is available for such a low price (that's their story, and I guess I was convinced enough to buy it!).
A few friends of mine have commented that it's very heavy -- it is much heavier than my Yamaha acoustic -- maybe it's the bracing system?

Before I bought this guitar I also looked at: Seagull, Yamaha and some cheaper Martins. The Garrison has a full sound, with good warmth and sustain. It's not too bright or tinny at all. It just felt/sounded right to me.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The setup, action and finish are totally perfect. The action is nice and low, without a buzz. Apparently this is exactly the way they arrived from the factory. All Garrison guitars use the Buzz Feiten tuning system -- which I'm not too familiar with yet. In any event, the intonation is very good. It comes with D'addario 12-53 Strings strings from the factory. The frets seem smooth and clean.
The finish is plain satin, which really lets you enjoy the colour and pattern of the birch.
The quality of action and construction was one of the key factors in my purchase decision.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I will admit, that I'm perhaps too careful with my gear -- if there is such a thing. My guitars don't leave the house without a proper case, they're put away when not in use and I don't like to let people "borrow" my favourite guitars (this is one of them now).

Nothing has given me any reason to think that this guitar should not last for many years if it's taken care of properly!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Garrison guitars come with a 5 year transferable warranty (at least in Canada --not sure what it's like in the States). I have not dealt with the company, and likely won't have any need to. The store where I bought seems to be getting good service from them. The only problem is that they have a limited production capacity -- If you want to order one it can take a few months.

I've been playing guitar for about 10 years. I've gone through a few pieces, generally not keeping things for more than a couple of years. I've owned a Norman, Yamaha and Takamine (among others). The Norman had bridge/neck problems, the Yamaha (my first acoustic) I still have, and the Takamine was fun, but I just prefer a full size guitar without cutaway or electronics. When I bought this guitar, I had a budget of $700 - $1000 (any more, and my wife would KILL me). I only spent $475 (+tax), got a cool looking solid wood guitar and maintained a happy marriage -- I'd do it again in a heartbeat. These guitars are hard to find, if you ever see one, try it out!
