I love this guitar. It's sound is simply beautiful. It has very good balance from the low strings and the high strings. It is the best sounding accoustic i have played.
This thing stays in tune for a LONG time.
It doesnt have a pickup, but many experianced people have told me that you will get a better sound by micing an accoustic than you would from a built in pickup.
This is a very easy guitar to play, too.
Excellent warrenty, 5 years.

The finish on this is beautiful. Its got a gloss finish on top. The wood on top is a very pale wood, with a slightly yellowish tint. I cant describe it, you have to see it for yourself.
The only problem i had is my bridge was starting to lift, or come unglued. A guitar tech noticed this, and the said it could never be a problem ,but it could come off sometime. I sent it into the shop yesterday to be reglued. The shop is owned by the creater of garrison, Chris Griffith, so i know its in good hands. The warrenty was perfect.

my g-40 is less than a year old, and has a solid sitka spruce top (gloss finish), solid sapele sides and back, and mahogany neck, with a satin finish. it's a straight dreadnought style, with no cutout or electronics. same gold tuners and tusq saddles as on every one else's garrison, and the g-40 has abalone dot inlays on the neck. the inlays on my guitar all have very intense blues and greens and are beautiful - i've had several comments from friends and other players. they're the cheaper mostly-white abalone that other brands use, i'll tell you that. i do think i'll buy a set of ebony bridge pins with abalone inlays to match the neck, but the new garrisons come with those already. and no one yet has mentioned that all garrisons are equipped with the buzz feiten tuning system, and at least on mine, the intonation really is virtually perfect all up and down the neck. you don't find this tuning system on cheap guitars. and i happen to think the rosette around the soundhole, while simple, is classic and elegant looking. then again, i really don't like these $3000 guitars with tons and tons of inlay all over the body, neck and headstock. i think they look gaudy, and i prefer the simpler natural look of all the garrisons.

this guitar, and pretty much all garrisons (i've played them all), have a very natural, woody sound. it's not too harsh, and has a very even tone across all six strings up and down the neck. i have been very impressed with the sound of my g-40 - it's nice and loud, whether fingerpicking or strumming with a pick, and there's no fret buzz or anything anywhere (unless, of course, you play really, really heavily)...
for the most part, i play stuff like phish, the grateful dead, dave matthews, jack johnson, ben harper, damien rice, josh ritter, the beatles, elliott smith, the shins, ani difranco...etc etc, and my g-40 sounds great for all those styles and sounds.
i would put the g-40 up against ANY guitar as far as sound quality and intonation go - and i mean that.

when i got my guitar from the ups guy i believe it had already been set up. but i like a higher action, and from what i've been reading, garrisons seem to come that way, so it's hard to say. either way, i would say mine has a medium-high action, but it's not hard to play by any means. it's nice and loud, with a great tone and no buzz whatsoever. this guitar is also a factory second model, which is why i didn't pay much for it. with that being said, it was new and still had the protective plastic on the pickguard. still had the new smell of wood-glue inside, even. i honestly searched every inch of this guitar and could only find one thing wrong with it - there's a slight wave in the middle of the pickguard. that's something i could fix with little trouble, but you only notice it when you look for it. this g-40 is extremely well-made - no rattles or buzzes in the body, and not even noticable excess glue inside. i have to say i was and still am impressed.
i think the top was properly bookmatched though it does have a few small, barely-noticable inconsistencies in the coloring - but like someone else said in another review, i think it just adds a little character, and i certainly don't consider that a flaw.

this guitar will definitely last, i have complete faith in that. it's solid as a rock. the finish is tough - i've bumped it and knocked it around many a time, even dropped it once when not paying attention, and i have yet to find more than a tiny surface scuff or two. the hardware is all solid, and still works just like the day i got it. you could take it onstage in a heartbeat.

i haven't had a reason to have to deal with the folks at garrison, but their guitars all come with a 5-year TRANSFERABLE warranty. i registered mine on their website a couple hours after i got it with no trouble whatsoever, even though i bought it through ebay. basically, as long as you don't radically modify the guitar, if anything happens during the first 5 years of the guitar's life, it's covered, no matter who owns it. i think that's AWESOME, personally...

i have been playing for about 9 years and have owned mostly electrics. i've whittled my collection to an american strat, a 60's teisco ('cause it's fun), and my g-40. that's it. that's all i need. when i decided to finally buy an acoustic, i wanted one that sounded great and looked good, too, so i spent many hours in stores playing martins, taylors, guilds, lakewoods, ovation, takamine...you name it, i played it. i got to know all the guitar shop guys around town really well... in the end, i played about six garrisons at a store in town, picked up the g-40, and nearly bought it on the spot. instead, i decided to wait a night to think about it, but made the mistake of checking ebay when i got home just to see if there was a g-40 listed. there was, and i bought it right then and there, not 30 minutes after leaving the guitar shop.
i love the sound of this guitar and i love the way it looks, too. the sound is woody and natural, which is what i was looking for. the look is simple and elegant, but not understatedly so. it's made very well, the hardware on the guitar is excellent, the buzz feiten thing is for real, and the tkl brand hardshell case that came with it is pretty standard.
i would put this guitar right up there with martins, taylors, gibsons, lakewoods and the like. honestly. and for the price of most of those guitars, you could buy two or three garrisons, in different woods, and get three different sounds. think about that.

I WAS IN THE MARKET FOR A GOOD QUALITY ACOUSTIC GUITAR AND WAS LOOKING AT TAYLORS,GUILDS AND TOP END SEAGULLS WHEN I READ ABOUT GARRISON GUITARS ON THE INTERNET AND DECIDED TO LOOK INTO THEM.AS SOON AS I PLAYED THE G-40 MY SEARCH WAS OVER.THIS QUITAR WAS MADE IN JUNE 2002 IN NEWFOUNDLAND JUST DAYS BEFORE I PURCHASED IT.IT'S A STRAIGHT ACOUSTIC WITH NO CUT AWAY,HI GLOSS TOP AND SATIN BACK AND SIDES.THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL GUITAR WITH GOLD TUNERS AND NICE LOOKING HEAD STOCK.IT HAS THE OLD LASERED ROSETTE WHICH IS RATHER PLAIN BUT NOT AN ITEM FOR ME.THE TONE WOODS USED IN THIS GUITAR ARE BEAUTIFUL AND SOUND EVEN BETTER.IT HAS A SOLID SPRUCE TOP AND SOLID MAHOGANY BACK AND SIDES.

I PLAY FOLK,COUNTRY AND BLUES MUSIC AND THIS GUITAR DOES THE JOB.THE G40 HAS A FULL WOODY SOUND WHICH IS WHAT I WANT.THE SOUND IS WHAT SOLD ME ON THIS GUITAR AND I PREFERRED THE MAHOGANY SOUND OVER THE ROSEWOOD MODEL.IT IS A RICH,WARM WELL BALANCED SOUND THAT PROJECTS WELL.THE C STYLE NECK MAKES THIS A COMFORTABLE ACOUSTIC TO PLAY AND THE RICH TONE MAKES ME WANT TO PLAY EVEN MORE.

THE ONLY FLAW ON THIS GUITAR WAS WHEN I RECEIVED IT THE ACTION WAS WAY TO HIGH AND IT ALSO HAD SOME BUZZS AND RATTLES.ONCE IT WAS SET PROPERLY AND THE ACTION WAS LOWERED IT WAS GREAT.THE FINISH AND FITTINGS ARE ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS.I FELT THE ACTION AND NOISES SHOULD HAVE BEEN A LITTLE BETTER COMING FROM THE FACTORY AS IT DIDN'T DO THIS GUITAR JUSTICE.

NOT ONLY DOES THIS GUITAR LOOK AND SOUND GREAT BUT IT SEEMS AS SOLID AS A ROCK.THE FINISH AND HARDWARE ALL SEEM TO BE OF VERY GOOD QUALITY AND IF LOOKED AFTER PROPERLY SHOULD LAST A LONG TIME.THIS GUITAR IS A LITTLE ON THE HEAVY SIDE BUT I PERSONNALLY PREFER A HEAVY ACOUSTIC SO I LIKE THAT.
