Features : 9
Made in 2008. Australian design-Manufactured in China with Korean humbucker pickups. American mahogany body & set neck with osewood Fretboard. 3 way toggle. Wild Cherry color. Neck has a raised section all the way through the body. 2 vol & 2 tone controls. Chrome hardware & solid strap buttons. as you are probable aware it's a firebird shape. Feels very comfortabe & is not neck heavy. Neck feels great to play. A slim profile that feels about the same as an SG. Tuners are 6 in line that seem to keep it in tune very well.

Sound : 10
I play a lot of rock, blues based music & this guitar is perect for that. It gets a real natural growl happening when cranked up in volume. No need for overdrive or destortion pedals.. It has it's own built in. The pickups sound great. I thought I may have to change them before I got to play it but no need. They are perfect for this guitar & the style of music i'm playing. I have played it through many amps. Mesa mk2c, Tweed Deluxe, Ceriatone Overtone Plus, Marshall TSL60 & the Firestarter performs great with all the amps. Great AC/DC tones without any pedals. Really rocks & pickups are very quiet.Neck pickup is great for blues

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Kevin got his guitar tech to set the guitar up for me & it played like a dream. Action was just the way I like it & it stays in tune very well. A very well finished guitar as you can see it on Gaskell guitars website. I am told I have the only one. Well for a while anyway.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Everything on the Firestater is solid & it will last the test of time with playing live etc. I have know reason not to depend on this guitar but I always play with a couple of guitars at gigs .. more for variety than anything else.. except broken strings

Customer Support : 10
As you have probably heard Kevin is a great guy to deal with. Very prompt with emails & phone calls. He is a straight up guy that doesn't talk any B.S. Good on him for looking after us forgotten lefties. I have been descriminated & humiliated all my life for playing guitar left handed. Going into guitar shops that have 500 right handed guitars & maybe 1 samick left handed. Well those days are over for me. The best thing is he doesn't make right handed guitars. So my much looked after right brother's & sister's can't play my great Gaskell firestarter. I hope he keeps it that way.

Overall Rating : 10
Playing for 35 years & I have collectede over 30 left handed guitars. Yes they are out there but you have to look bloody hard to find quality & I can tell you all I have found it here wit hmy Gaskell Firestarter. I am having so much fun playing this guitar, it's a real rocker. I have my eye on some other Gaskell products but I probably would get another Firestarter if It got pinched. I compared this with a Legacy Firebird clone. It doesn't have the raised neck thru & the pickups sounded very week & noisey. This Firestarted is a quality guitar that will last me for years & I just love that great shape. A great guitar all round

Firestarter-bought from Gaskell Guitars Sydney Australia 2008. designed in Australia-manufacured in China with Korean Humbucker pickups. American mahogany with set neck-thru body, Cherry colour. -Rosewood fingerboard & reverse head stock. 6 chrome tuners in a row. Chrome hardware. 2 vol & 2 tone controls, White scratch plate & 3 way selector. Neck feels like the same width as an SG & the neck join makes playing up high very easy, The timber is raised through the set neck.. just like the other brand.

Sound : 9
I play rock/blues etc & this guitar suits my style of playing perfectly. it will sound great through any amp. I have played it through a Mesa Mk2c, Fender tweed deluxe, Marshall TSL & a ceriaton Overtone plus & it shines with all amps. It gets a real growl up when cranked on the bridge pickup. The neck p/u will get you smooth blues tones like a LP. All electronics are dead quiet. I thought I may have had to change the pickups out of this guitar before I played it but honestly there is no need. Great AC/DC tones straight away on this baby. No pedals needed. Sounds like it has it's own natural overdrive going on. I compared this with a legacy firebird as they make lefty's too. No comparisom. This guitar leaves the Legacy way behind in playability, looks, qulity & sound

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar was set up for me by Kevin (Gaskell) guitar tech & the action, intonation, pick up height etc was spot on. I can not fault anything with this guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I haved gigged with this guitar & have gotten lots of comments about having a lefty Firebird. I tell everyone proudly that no it's not a Gi@**on it's A GASKELL & tell them them story of how an independant Lefty has gone out on a limb to try & give his brother lefties quality guitars that we have been deprived & descriminated against for years. The finish on this guitar is flawless & will last the test of time. The strap buttons maybe a bit small but appear solid. I will change them out for straplocks as I have them on most of my other guitars. I always bring a few guitars to gigs with me,(just in case) but this is a very reliable, solid guitar

Customer Support : 10
Well Kevin is a great guy. Always responds to phone calls & emails promptly. He had the guitar set up for me as he knew I was coming to try it out. I feel confident in dealing with him again & have my eye on some up coming exciting new models

Overall Rating : 10
i have been playing 35 years. Have over 30 guitars- Way to many but hey I like collecting great guitars & these are a lefties dream come true. It cracks me up that Kevin is making such great guitars & my brother righties can't play them ha ha.. I hope he just keeps making lefties for that reason alone. IF it was lost/stolen I would go for another Firestarter for sure. It's s fun guitar to play & I'm really enjoying it. The neck is really playable & I just love the way this guitar loves to "Rock Out". No faults on this baby. Quality product.
