Im not sure where the guy below found his GS570, but mine is a sweet sweet peice of ***. Yes, its laminated brazillian rosewood, (but not all laminate is bad, trust me, do your research). Not only is my top solid spruce, it has a nice inlay rosette (not a decal or print etc) The binding is beautiful 3 or 4 layers of wood with the widest part dark rosewood. (Silmilar to the hand made Yaries of the mid 80s) The roswood is absolutly stunning and the finish (yes it is cracked and glazing, etc) is a rich old nitrocellouse. The neck is beautiful and the inlays on the neck or in fact actual abolony or mother of pearl. I am telling you this guitar is beautiful.

This guitar is built like a tank and therfore sounds very direct, with full solid midranges. I think the age of this guitar has made it open up some. I could see this being a closed-up sounding and no fun guitar brand new. However, this thing kicks *** now. The highs are there and the bass is there to support the very firm midranges. I love it. Its not a Martin D-28 and its not supposed to be. I compare this to my 70s and 80s Hofner acoustics which I love dearly. A very great sounding direct guitar.

Again, the finsih is 39 years old and there are some spots (around the neck butt and behind the saddle)but again, its 39 years old. Its built like a tank and the set up is great. I run both 13s and 12s on it and with 13s .. its a cannon. The intonation is dead on. There is no pull up on the top, no warpage, its solid. If anything was going to happen to the basic design, it would have happened by now. I suspect this guitar to be around a long long time. (beyond me)

Reliability/Durability : 8
TANK. The original closed tuners (I have never seen them before) are solid and stay in tune and are at least 14:1 ratio. No issues.

I own and play many ,many, many flattops. I fingerpick and flat pick and have been playing for 40 years. (mando and banjo as well) Again, I am not sure what the guy below has or thinks he knows, but in my opinion, the guitar I own would be a STEAL at the 300/350 range. It has all the hallmarks of a high quality instrument. I do own many high end Martins and this is not in that range, but it is in the 70s high end Japanese guitars and maybe even better.

If you come across one. But it.

Laminated spruce top, gloss finish. Laminated Brazilian rosewood back and sides, with cracks in the lacquer perhaps from drying out because the guitar was sold in New York, as stated on label sticker under strings inside body. Made 1971 Sao Paolo Brazil stamped on heel of neck, visible when looking inside soundhole.

No electronics. Fat and somewhat cumbersome neck of unknown wood, awkward feel similar to some 60s Guild acoustics. Neck is very lightweight. There is a truss rod. Frets show usual wear, but are in relatively good shape despite 30+ years of regular play from multiple owners. It probably had fretwork done at some point is my guess and the last owner didn't play it much afterward, otherwise the frets held up very well. No rutted or buzzing frets. Frets are pretty close together, for example on the high E string: reaching from the 2nd fret F# with index finger to 7th fret B with pinky is not a big stretch and is easily facilitated, like on a Japanese Fender electric.

MOP inlay, might be artificial but never did the research to find out. Smallish dreadnought body, nonoriginal tuners of unknown make, which seem to work well enough.

Sound : No Opinion
A quiet guitar with a limited tone, resonance, and volume which just smacks of the laminated wood construction. That's a pity, because with all the Brazilian rosewood you can only wish it was solid. It doesn't sound any different than a Washburn (also junk), it's nothing special and really, I'd rather have bought something new with a warranty. The price you're likely to see this guitar being sold for in a shop (I've seen several) is pretty outlandish ($250-$350) and I wouldn't advise paying more than $75 for it.

They went new for $149.50

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Decent action, now. I installed a new nut and tweaked the bridge. The action was higher above 12 than below 5, but it's relatively better, no buzzing, doesn't cause an intonation issue, still tunes well when capoed.

Again, the laminated construction is a shame because the whole thing just suffers. It was a cheap guitar then and, well, that hasn't changed except that now it's somewhat collectible so it'd go for more than what it's actually worth.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
It seems to have withstood the test of time, but whoever had it appears to have let it dry out and crack.

Bought it used.

Buy something else, unless you're a Giannini enthusiast or collector, this is basically junk.

The other guy who reviewed this guitar has no idea what he is talking about. He was probably 17 years old when he bought his "cherry" for way too much money, in addition to trading his perfectly good Fender 12-string to the Dixie Trader guitar shop in Oakland Park, FL. I would also venture to say he is now quite embarrassed that his name and former email address are attached to the review, as well.

Made 1971, sao paulo brazil. 20 frets, body joining at 14th fret. lacquered spruce top, doesn't appear to be solid. stained wooden inlays around soundhole. tortoise shell pickguard. back and sides are solid brazilian rosewood. chrome tuners with elaborate etching in the metal where they screw into the headstock. mahogany neck, rhombus shaped pearl-inlaid rosewood fingerboard.

Sound : 9
aaah this guitar has a rich and beautiful sound! i play a lot of hot tuna and the like so it works well for that. medium gauge bronze strings seem to be right, as light gauge ones sound tinny and the higher gauge ones buzz on the frets. the first four strings sound very bright, but the lower tones aren't as robust, not as well rounded and bright, especially the low E. not a hard guitar to play, but the strings aren't exactly like spaghetti if that makes sense? hey it's just right, minus those bland lower tones. it was made thirty years ago and shows considerable signs of wear like a few cracks in the lacquer, but intrestingly enough none of the frets are the slightest bit worn down.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
action is perfect. one of the tuning pegs is loose and vibrates audibly if the string is played loud, open, and by itself. you can't hear it if youre playing other strings too.whoever had it before me burned his initials (J.K.) in the back of the headstock, i guess that's pretty cool.

Reliability/Durability : 9
the hardware on this guitar seems built to last. it's thiirty years old and still all original. i hope i never have to change it, that would be a travesty. the only thing i might fix up or replace are the buttons that hold the strings in place on the saddle, as they are a little bit loose. very dependable, i use it frequently without a backup. it's vintage, chicks dig it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
i got this guitar second (3rd? 4th? 5th?) hand so i dont have a warranty or any of the paperwork stuff youd get with a new model.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
i like it because it has a lot of personality and has great sound, doesn't talk back and never disagrees even in foul weather changes. rock solid, man. my friends all look at their brand spankin new this or that guitars and then wish they had my gun. it's a cherry
