i got mine in 98, very nice flamed top.3 dimarzio superdistortion pickups. hardware is all typical gibson. the included case is pretty awesome. i bought mine new so i got the lifesize standup and the ace frehley power pack were you get a one year supply of strings.

has a very nice sound to it perfect for rock n roll. the middle pick up does get in my way though. nothing to really dislike here. if you are shopping for one of these you know the sounds your going to be getting out of it.

mine was set up pretty poorly. action was a bit high. 3 way toggle wasnt soldered right, and the ebony on the fret board on frets 1 and 2 cracked. all were fixed by gibson at no charge. the binding on mine had alot of red im guessing rubbing compound in it took alot of polishing to get out.

i dont get to play this as much as id like, but its a gibson so it should last for many lifetimes.

they were very good for the repairs that i had done. but it still sucks to have to send out your 3200.00 guitar for repairs.

AA Sunburst top with three dimarzio pickups. Lightningbolt inlays on e3bony fret board. Regular custom features. Nice light guitar. Not what you'd expect for a Les paul.

Surprisingly it has three distinct tones when selecting pickups. Ive read other reviews not giving this guitar very good rating in this area. Bought it through the mail I was nervous about the tone quality. It has an "in-between" sound like a strat witht the middle pickup selected. I like.

Every now and then you get a guitar that has minimal set up needed. This guitar needes nothing. Fret board straight, intonated, and setup low and fast.

Been playing over 30 years. Have had numbers of Gibson Les Pauls and can say this rates high with historics Ive owned. The neck profile is less bulky than a historic which I like. Weight is light as well.. low 9 lbs. Best of all the tone. Very versitle. I dont know if Id replace it if lost or stolen. Id probably find another interesting guitar to try out. Great guitar. If you can find one get it, you will be glad you did.

This is without a doubt the ultimate Les Paul. I purchased it almost a year ago now and there hasn't been a day that I wished I bought a different guitar. It was made in October of 2000 in the USA. Originally I was going to purchase the lesser model offered by Epiphone, but as soon as I layed my hands on the real-deal Gibson, I knew I had to have this guitar. It has 22-frets on an ebony fingerboard with pearl lightening bolt inlays and Ace's signature at the 12th fret. The body and neck are solid mahogony and the maple AA flametop is stunning. The color is heritage cherry sunburst. The body has multi-bound white binding and the headstock and neck are also bound in white - it adds a nice touch by outlining the guitar from top to bottom. The pickups are awesome - DiMarzio Super Distortions (Ace's pickup of choice). The neck has a '59 rounded profile and it has the typical tune-o-matic bridge setup and 2-tone 2-volume just about all Les Pauls do. The tuners are the best - Grovers. A black deluxe leather hard-case with blue crush-velvet interior came with the guitar and the satin sheet inside has a facsimile of Ace's signature on it. The perfect-looking and sounding LP.

The sound is magnificent, partly do to the guitar's construction and partly do to the pickups. I play all sorts of rock and it surely suits it. In the bridge position is sounds exactly like Ace. Les Pauls have a sound no other guitar can duplicate, and this model is no exception.

The setup from the factory was flawless - which is sometimes hard to find. Smooth playing right from the start. I didn't need to adjust a thing. The finish was flawless and beautiful. The best AA flame I've seen yet.

This guitar seems like it will hold out forever. It's a quality USA Gibson - need I say more? I can depend on this guitar live, yet a backup is always smart.

I've only been playing for a few years now but I know I great instrument when I play one. Gibson is quality all-the-way, and with a top-of-the-line model such as this one, you can't go wrong. My favorite features are the cherry sunburst flametop, the ebony board, and the excellent sound quality this guitar expresses. If you want one of the best Les Pauls around - this is definately at the top of the list. They're now discontinued so get one while you can - they'll surely go up in value. As a side note, I heard this is the last 3-pickup cherry sunburst custom Gibson will make because of an exclusive deal with Ace.

Born in 1997, in the USA. She's got the standard 22 frets, like most LP Customs. Also, like most LP Customs, she weighs a TON! Mahogany set-in neck, mahogany body with a AA-flamed maple top. Standard LP controls of a 3-way toggle switch, and 1 vol& 1 tone for the bridge p/u and neck p/u. Particular to this model is a third pick-up routed in between the other two. My understanding is that the center position of the toggle turns it 'on', but that's it, no other controls. I'm thinking it's pretty ornamental, since Ace has said in interviews that he only uses the 'treble' setting (bridge pickup) anyway. Speaking of the bridge, it's a DiMarzio "Super Distortion", and the others are DiMarzio's. All are double-cream in colour, and are passive. Like I mentioned before...the standard mahogany build is finished in Gibson's famous Heritage Cherry Sunburst. The flame on the maple top goes on for days....even my wife commented on it! No pickguard installed. Tune-o-matic bridge and Grover tuners in chrome finish. Big ol' fat '59 Les Paul neck. DON'T let that description fool you. The '59 neck is GREAT, and COMFORTABLE! I have small hands and the neck is rounded nicely and fits perfect. I thought for years you needed some teeny-tiny ultra-thin neck...not so...try it, you'll love it! Ebony fingerboard, smooth as glass.
Included with this lovely axe is a black Gibson signature case. Open it to reveal a blue crushed velvet liner, and blue silk shroud. Ace's autograph is printed on the shroud. I'm considering selling my house and moving into the case! EVERY guitar should be laid out and pampered like this.

I play mostly fingerpicking classical and country. The guy in the music shop said this guitar would be perfect. JUST KIDDING! Sounds like Ace? Mmmmmm...sounds more like GOD! I'm running it into a Tech 21 Trademark 10, with no effects. I can get convincing Ace sounds, AC/DC sounds and Slash sounds with little (if any) tweaking. This section should be devoted to praising my little Tech 21. That thing is awesome. I don't a seasoned ear to hear subtle differences in pick-ups. HOWEVER, I found the Ace LP Custom sounds a little 'thinner' when compared to my regular LP Custom. But I LIKE that. What would be the point of buying the exact same guitar, only with a different paintjob?

Action? Perfect...Ace uses 9's...I had it adjusted to 10's
Fit? Perfect
Finish? Oh yeah....here's where Ace put the touches on. The usual LP Custom pearl block fret inlays have been replaced with lightning bolt inlays. At the 12th, a pearl-ed Ace Frehley signature. The flamed top is too cool. and the multi-layer binding on the top and back says "Ace". Multi-bound headstock, and a single-bound neck. The usual LP Custom headstock inlay has been replaced with a replica of Ace's portrait circa the 'solo album' cover. Further, the truss rod cover is upgraded to an "Ace" special. The Epiphone version of the Ace guitar was available in a black/grey flame-top as well. I don't know if the Gibson version was available that way too.
All in all...phenominal, except that Ace's face on the headstock looks a little cheesy......

It's a Gibson....built like a brick shithouse.....
It'll last forever.
The only thing is, these Ace models were started in 1997 and discontinued in 2001. Don't know how many were made, but a great catch if you can snag one.

I've been playing for about 16 years. I started off with a LP copy, and then moved onto Fenders, and other assorted Strat-style junk. At the end of the day, the Gibson sound moves the WORLD! Let the pretenders play their single coils.....
I had initially set out to get a Les Paul Standard Plus, but I just love the ebony fingerboard of the Custom. This Ace LP Custom just happened to be in the right place at the right time....standard LP finish, but all the features of a Custom, plus being a signature model, the off chance of it becoming collectable and a good investment piece....I got lucky since this Ace Custom was actually cheaper than the other LP Custom's hanging beside it!
If my ACE LP Custom was stolen, I'd be heartbroken.
Gibson (like Fender) has be critisized for the re-release of that , or the Custom Shop version of this. I bought this guitar to play and enjoy, but I'm also rolling the dice that although this is essentially a souped-up Custom, it will become a sought after piece in Les Paul lore....

I PLAY 70'S ROCK AND THIS DELIVERS! I PLAY IT THROUGH A LANEY LC30 FOR REHEARSING AND MOST GIGS. IT GIVES A BITING DISTORTED SOUND AT FULL WHACK THAT JUST ABOUT MAKES YOUR EARS BLEED!! AT LOWER VOLUMES, AND BACKING OFF THE TONE IT GIVES A RICH BLUESY SOUND ON THE BRIDGE PICKUP AND A ROUNDED FULL TONE ON THE NECK PICKUP. BASICALLY THIS GUITAR CAN DELIVER WHAT YOU'D EXPECT FROM A LES PAUL, BUT CAN ALSO PULL OUT SOME REASONABLE CLEAN SOUNDS. CONSIDERING THE GUITARIST IT WAS DESIGNED FOR YOU WOULD'NT EXPECT TO PLAY COUNTRY ON IT!! IT'S A RAWK GEETAR AND NO MESSIN! I WANNA ROCK 'N' ROLL ALL NITE!!!

good setup, if a little high compared to my jackson, but the feel of the ebony is silklike and strings bend like they're butter, no gritty feeling there! the pickups were adjusted to optimum position and the finish is superb the matching on the top was spot on. my only critcism was that one of the leads for the middle pickup had not been connected!

the softness of the nitrocellulose finish means that it won't stand up to any abuse without showing signs, but this isn't a "sling it around and kick it" guitar anyway The expense of the guitar means that it only gets used on one or two songs in a set, but it has ythe same standard of finish as other les pauls so why shouldn't it last 40 years?
