I like the faded look of the original '58-'60 Les Pauls. It appears that Gibson thinks that all '59 Les Pauls had pencil thick flames running across the guitar. Mine is a faded honey burst with just enough flame similiar to Jimmy Pages main guitar (and many of the most famous fadedbursts). It has high output humbuckers with the awesome 500T at the bridge. This pickup really wakes up the input of an old Marshall Plexi. This model has vintage details like the smaller headstock and look/feel of the originals. This is the best value that Gibson has to offer. I looked at 10-15 of them to find the one with the top like Page's guitar. Some are REAL plain unless you opt to SPEND for a premium or premium plus Classic. Finish looks good. Not too thick or plastic looking like the reissue models.

Sound : 10
Sounds great. Tone galore with the hotter pickups. Think of Slash from Guns and Roses. . .Vintage guitar but modern pickups. Wonderfull. I have an original PAF that I bought years ago and it sounds sweet in this guitar, but the 500T really cuts through and slams those input tubes hard. Neck pickup is warm and bluesy sounding. Was my favorite sounding guitar untill I bought a EVH Wolfgang

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
Action was a little low from the factory. Ypu know that dreded Les Paul string slip when you bend the higher notes?!? I just raised the action a little. It is a quality instrument, but there are some frets that could of used alittle more work, although it was nothing that I couldn't do in a couple of hours. Finish looks good and even. I like the look of the faded top.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Lifetime of playing. Good woods and good construction=long life.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them

I love this guitar. I replaced the classic truss rod cover with the blank one like the originals. I also replaced the pick guard to lose the 1960 printed on the original. With these parts in place, this guitar looks like an original. I wish that Gibson would not of put Les Paul "Classic" on the headstock instead of Les Paul "Model". This is the best value that Gibson has in the Les Paul line-up.

A classic Les Paul look, along the lines of the 1960 Les Paul. The "slim taper" neck is a joy to play. The only other unusual feature is the high output 500-H humbucker. This is the hottest Gibson pickup. So, although the guitar's styling is vintage, the sound is hot rock 'n roll.

Sound : 10
This guitar is built to do one primary thing - ROCK! Distortion, baby. You can also get killer blues tones from the neck pickup. This guitar covers the spectrum of distorted rock tones magnificently. A little too warm for thrash metal. This guitar has no superior for gnarly, cranked tube dirt. The only bad part is that they named it "Classic". So many were disappionted with the sound. These are the wrong pickups for 'classic Les Paul' tone. Any distortion-happy amp will love this axe. The full-toned throaty blast will have enough bottom end to make your bass player feel like a fifth wheel. I wouldn't use it in a band with a keyboard player. Too many competing frequencies. And don't play one in a band which has another Les Paul-toting axe murderer, unless mud is your goal. I don't think I would use Fender amps with this guitar. However, Marshall's will sound like God's personal amp with a Classic. Especially the old non-master variety. I used mine with an early '70s metal panel 50 Watt. They complimented each other perfectly. The guy who sold me the 50 Watt damn near cried when he heard it with my Classic, "I didn't know it could sound like THAT!" The distortion quality will naturally vary with your choice of amp. But, you will probably never need an OD or distortion pedal with it. Save those for your Strat.

Excellent quality build. Whoever is putting these together down at the Nashville plant is taking serious pride in their workmanship. The equal of late 50's, early 60's "Golden Age" Gibsons. At most they need a decent fret-job and set-up before regular use. But I consider this a standard for all but hand-built 'boutique' guitars.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Built as well as anything Gibson has ever made.

Overall Rating : 10
I bought this to make distorted rock sounds with. It does exactly that. Better than any guitar I know. It does so with that classic Les Paul warmth and midrange intact. I think Gibson did a killer job designing the 500-H bridge pickup for this guitar. I've heard all the standard Seymour Duncan, DiMarzio, and many smaller maker replacement humbuckers. None matches a specific guitar so well. I've owned as many as 12 guitars a once. But I could pare it all down to one good Strat and my Classic, and still have 95% of the rock and blues bases covered. I have owned or played 90% of all new guitars on the market in the last 20 years. NO guitar rocks better.

"HOT" PICKUPS WHEN NEEDED WITH DISTINCTIVE GIBSON TONE. THESE ARE NOT THE WARM FUZZIES OF THE 57'S. I HAVE 15 GUITARS AND I WANTED A HOT LES PAUL WITHOUT GOING CRAZY FOR THE JIMMY PAGE. DISTINCTIVE AND FIRES UP THE ROOM. I HAVE A ES-335 TO WARM THE ROOM. USE WITH AXSYS LINE 6, SO I HAVE A LOT OF FLEXIBILITY WHICH THIS GUITAR NEEDS TO REACH ITS FULL POTENTIAL.GOOD VARIETY. I LOVE THE POWER OF THE GUITAR. THIS IS THE BEST PRICE VALUE RELATIONSHIP THAT GIBSON OFFER.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I HAVE NOTICED NO POBLEMS WITH THE GUITAR. GOOD FACTORY SETUP. THE QUALITY IS FAR SUPERIOR TO MY 75-85 LES PAULS. THE HAVE THEIR ACT TOGETHER. OUR GUITAR TECH WAS REALLY IMPRESSED, BECAUSE HE KNOWS HOW I WANT MY GUITARS SET UP. THE VALUE OF THIS GUITAR WILL GO UP. IN 1998, THE LOWEST LEVEL CLASSIC IS THE GOLDTOP($400-500 MORE)

Oh my god, the sound of this guitar is unreal. I love this guitar. i would sell my nuts before I sold this guitar. My style of music is alternative to heavy metal and It suits it perfectly. This guitar has a rich , full , fat sound to it and I love it to death.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Not only does this guitar sound great, but it is probably the best playing guitar I have ever owned. I havent found any flaws in it what so ever.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I would definately say that this guitar will last. Its buit like a tank. I would use it in a gig without a backup but Im a guitar freak and would like to have more with me but I could definately stand to just play that one.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No problems yet. I has a lifetime warranty

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing guitar for 6 years and I can say that this is the most perfect guitar I have ever owned. I love everything about it. I also have a fender stratocaster deluxe plus and the les paul just blows the strats strings off. If it was stolen I would definately buy it again. True the les pauls are just a tad expensive, but they are worth every penny. I would buy this guitar again in a heart beat.

This is the classic LP which has the slimmer neck than the standard, although it isnt anywhere near as slim as some other slim profile necks, ie Parker. Pickup configuration is standard, passive 498 (neck) and 500 (bridge). The finish is top of the line maple. The inlays are pre-antiqued. Case is included. The finish is beautiful, mine is the honeyburst. The neck feels great, but again it's not a shredders neck. The bridge is standard LP, that is it won't lock down and no tremolo. But if you want to do the opening sound to "Runnin with the Devil"..... you gotta have this arrangement.

Sound : 10
I had been playing with a Parker, then a Peavey Wolfgang; both are nice, but nothing, NOTHING, has the punch and sustain of the LP. I don't know what it is, but it simply has magic. The sound is chunky, full, bright in the upper registers, thick bass and midrange. It just sounds GOOD. I played it through several amps and it always sounds good. Not to be repetitious, but this isn't really a shredders guitar, it isnt a scooped sound, and access to the uppermost frets is a little cumbersome. But speed aside, this guitar outtones the competition.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
It came setup very well, no dead frets, no buzz, action was set nicely. I did raise the pickups some, I always do on any guitar I own.

Reliability/Durability : 10
They (Les Pauls) have been around for 40 years or more and they only get better with age.

Customer Support : 9
I made one phone call and the company was very helpful. I wouldn't worry too much with Gibson.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing 25 years; I own a lot of gear. I just can't say it enough; nothing has this sound. All the great guitarists through the years knew something; this is a sound that just can't beat duplicated. Highly recommended.
