I have 2 Roxies. An old one and a new one. The old one is a solid body - very heavy compared to it's chambered brother. The new one has the improved neck joint and very comfortable compared to it's Gretschy brother. This is a HUGE improvement people! Both of them have similar sparkle finishes. The old one has a trapese bridge while the new one - a stop tail piece. The GMP Roxie is a quality US made instrument.

To my ears the old one has a heavier tone but I wouldn't call it better. The new one that inspired this review is airy while the chambered body gives it a different tone - again - not better but different. It isn't fair to say one is better than the other. There practicaly 2 different guitars - one chambered and one solid. Either way they both have Seymour Duncans and sound great.

I get lower action on the new addition from the TOM/STP. The trapese gets low enough but not like the former. The finish on both are great. GMP probably makes the best sparkle finishes you'll find.

I wish the old one had the new neck joint. I wish the new one was the price of the old one LOL. If it was stolen I'd buy another. There really both great guitars. Good job GMP!

My Roxie is a Roxie Deluxe not a SS. One of the cats at GMP told me SS stood for sparkle series when they came out. Mine is quilted maple with a mahogany body so I'm calling it a Deluxe. It doesn't have the sculpted heel like it says on the website but that just came out. I'll save everyone the repetitive features.

For amps I use Boogie single rectifier--an old one-- and a Framus Dragon. I have 2 identical Marshall cabs that I bought together 7 years ago so both are half stacks. Both are loaded with 2 30's and 2 70's. For effects I rotate between 2 TC electronics units and an NS-2 that I take with me back and forth. This depends on which of the 2 bands I'm currently playing with. I like the Framus sound slightly better than the rectifier for less raunchy tones. I really wish I had a chance to a/b these 2 amps side by side but one is in a garage and the other across town in a warehouse. So far the GMP loves the Framus. The Boogie does get muddy in the mix at times but thats Boogie for you. Our singers limited range and downtuning doesn't make things easy either.
I'm thinking the body is semi hollow on this guitar. It's real lightweight and does feedback if I kill the NS-2. It really sounds great otherwise.

I had to lower the action. I got it used from a blues player that had it setup high. I also lowered the pickups. The neck can get tricky up high but I manage. If you play shred guitar go get a new one. The quilt is deep and even. There was some finish checking that I had smoothed out by the nut. I knew about this before I bought it or else it would bug me.

Another nod for Phil. He hooked me up with the seller if you can believe that. I was having a helluva time tracking down a new Roxie. I wanted something with a quilt or flame and there weren't even any sparkle series Roxies in the stores. After some pleading he came through like a hero. Thanks bud! I promise the next one will be a new one.

Overall the GMP Roxie is a very cool guitar. It sounds, looks and feels great. If it were stolen I would hunt down the thief and go Fear Factor on his ass. I've had this guitar a few weeks and I'm almost ready to order my next one. I hear the sculpted heels are to die for.

My Roxie is a deluxe and was made in San Dimas California in 2003. It has 22 standard jumbo frets and is a carved maple top. It has a great looking quilted top that blows away any PRS. The neck and the body are mohagany and the fretboard is ebony with diamond inlays. One thing that really surprised me was how smooth the neck heel is. It is extremely comfortable and easy to play. The guitar itself isn't very heavy but it's big. The body is similar to a Gretch Jet at first glance but it's quite different. The controls are 2 volumes and tones with a 3-way selector switch. It has Custom-Custom and 59 pickups by Seymore Duncan. I never owned a guitar with a custom-custom I usually use a JB but I'll be experimenting with this pickup in the future on my othger guitars. It really sounds great. The bridge style is like a typical Gibson. It also has my favorite tuners which are by Sperzel. It came with a very nice hardshell case.

The Roxie deluxe sounds incredible through all of my amps. I have a Fender Twin Reverb and a Marshall JCM 800 head. I sold my cabinet so I only get to use the Marshall when I jam at a friends. The 3 times I've been able to use my Marshall I was blown away by the Roxie tone. I use a Boss digital delay and sometimes an envelope filter. It sounds a little bright and if I want to darken it I just adjust the tone nob a little. The controls really make a diiference!

I have played for over 10 years and also own a Hamer Monaco and a Hamer Californian. Over the years I have owned many other guitars (a PRS McCarty, 2 Les Pauls, a McInturff and 4 or 5 Hamers). If my Roxie deluxe was stolen I would buy another without hesitating. I love everything about it. My favorite feature is the neck. I bought it to compliment my Hamer Monaco and I can't believe it but the Roxie deluxe will probably replace it. If you like the same guitars that I do then you will love the Roxie deluxe.

I don't know what year but she has what appears to be a early serial number. She has a striking blue sparkle finish with a black behind. She has 22 jumbo frets on a rosewood fretboard with diamond shaped pearl inlays. She has Duncan pickups that are hot. The Roxie body is shaped like a Gretsch but modernized. Her neck is fat and juicy and oozes tone and she has a trapese tailpiece.
Sound
:

She rings out acoustically like no other. She is not very heavy for her mass since she has a chambered mahogany body. I play her through an old Fender twin reverb every chance I get. I use alot of high end and midrange and she still doesn't come off to bright like my strats.

This is the 3rd roxie I have had I currently own 1 other. I had to sell one to raise money for my Mesa Road King and as luck would have it I was offered a sweet deal on another roxie shortly after. Thank God I was able to replenish the roxie void. The Mesa is a great head but I HATED using a Les Paul as a backup. During my last show I broke a string on my other roxie. This was before I got this one. I had to use the Les Paul for the remainder of my set. People say a great amp can make a any guitar sound great I disagree. I have always loved the look of a Les Paul and it was a gift from my ex wife. The Les Paul and her have something in common now. They are both out of my life for good. To compare this roxie to my other. It has a fat neck and rosewood fingerboard. My other is not as fat and has ebony. It is heavy while my other is more towards being lightweight. Both have trapezes and Seymours. Both are sparkle topped with mahogany body and necks. This one has matching silver diamonds the other is abalone. Neither are alike in many repects and both are monsters. GMP has ruined my desire to play anything else. I thought I wanted a Gretsch I was wrong.

The Road King brings out the best in this guitar but it tears down the walls with everything I used it with. I did a showcase with it through a Line 6 HD147 last week. The Line 6 was in the backline because of space and time. I doubt anyone likes to stray from there own set ups but I'll be damned if it didn't make the Line 6 sound like a million bucks. Imagine how I felt when I got compliments up the ying yang about my tone while my $3,000 Road King was back at the studio. It got me reconsidering my opinion of modeling amps now. Line 6 should start using GMP when they demo there amps. I play a cross between rockabilly and blues rock. I was turned on to the roxie because of one my biggest influences Neil Giraldo. Is it a funny coincidence that he endorses both GMP and Line 6? The man knows tone and I can't argue with what works. Maybe theres a Line 6 in my future? My next roxie will have a bigsby.

No complaints here. I didn't think I would like the sparkle inlays in the neck and they look great. It works with the silver sparkle. I don't know how much I'd like other funky colors but the silver is phat.

No problems with any of the roxies I have owned. I wouldn't play any show without a backup. Now it is as good as my main. I need a good backup now that I am doing more tunings and the Les Paul wasn't cutting it.

I have had the privledge of owning my Roxie for 4 months now and boy o boy is it making my other guitars jealous. Considering it is a stock guitar it has more features than most custom guitars I have had. The store I bought it from said it was new old stock and it wasnt cheap but boy o boy for $2,000 it was worth it new or used for that matter. It was the same price as my Gibson and probably has twice as many features. It has a beautifully quilted maple top on a mahogany body. I think its chambered cuz it's not extremely heavy for the size. Seymour Duncan pickups and Tone pros stop piece round it out. I usually prefer the Jeff Beck model (in most of my other guitars) but the custom custom is pure bliss. I am totally blown away. The neck is ebony with gorgeous inlay and the frets are jumbo.
I am soooo happy!

I play hard rock and some metal. The Roxie can do everything. The volume and tone nobs actually work! When I roll back the volume a little I am in blues heaven. Oh yeah its got a 59 in the neck that sounds so wonderful in this guitar it makes my Les Paul sound like a speaker with a blanket over it. The sound is so fat that I don't think I'll ever record with anything else. It is a tone machine. Through my Diezel herbert it is beyond words. It even makes my cheapo Marshall Jcm 800 shine (when I give the diezel a break). If I could rate my Roxie a 11 in this category I would - it sounds that awesome!

The guitar sat on a rack for a long time according to the dealer I got it from so the action was a little lower than I usually like. That took all of 5 minutes to fix and I can't knock GMP for that. Not everyone likes the same setup do they? The quilted top is almost perfectly bookmatched. I could swim in it theres so much life. Other than adjusting the action to my personal preference the guitar needed nothing but someone to play it - that's me!

My Roxie is as solid as I could imagine any guitar could possibly be. I didn't realize how fragile my other guitars felt until this. I'm not saying they will break but that they feel weak compared. I can't believe I went without it all these years. What an eye opener!

I emailed the webmaster by mistake to ask questions about ordering another Roxie and actually got a extremely helpful response. I assume that there webmaster works there but then again the website looks like a job in it's own I don't know how he'd find the time. I can't see there ever being a problem. Iread in another review it was 5 years but who cares.

I have been playing for about 11 years and own a Les Paul, a USA Schecter custom shop, a Tom Anderson and a PRS CE. I'm going to defintely sell my Gibson and PRS to get another Roxie maybe with P90 pickups if I can find one. If I find a used Elite or Pawnshop that plan may change. They look great to but I can't believe how much I love this Roxie. It's perfection.
It was stolen I would cry. I never heard of anyone losing a guitar but if it was lost I'd put on a dunce hat and sit in a corner. This guitar is my dream guitar I just didn't know it until I got it.

1997 Roxie SS made in Bill and Ted's home town of San Dimas California. It's got 22 Frets on a rosewood board, 25.5 inch scale mahogany neck and body with tone chambers and a 3/4 inch maple top. The basic design is a hot rodded Fender scale Les Paul that looks like a Gretsch Jet but plays like a custom made guitar(which it is).
It has 2 Seymour Duncans. A Custom Custom in the bridge and 59 in the neck. They are controlled by 2 vols (bridge volume on lower horn like a Gretsch master), 2 tones and a 3 way toggle on the top horn (like a Les Paul). The tuners are Sperzels, the bridge is Gotoh (newer ones have Tone Pros) and it has a trapees tail piece. The top of the body, neck and headstock have very well done creme binding.
The finish is spectacular!!!! GMP make some truly incredible guitars with equaly incredible finishes and mine is no exception. It is Chartreuse sparkle, sort of a yellow/gold/green color with the biggest chunkiest flakes of spakle you have ever seen. It looks like a pile of glitter in the shape of a guitar. The diamond fingerboard inlays even match the color.
All I have to say is WOW!!!!

Balsy and sweet. I own and have owned hundreds of guitars but never has one covered such a wide range. It has that full, biting/warm Les Paul sound but there is extra snap in it from the longer scale and more complex tone from the tone chambers. I've played this through Marshall, Mesa Boogie, Fender, Yamaha Digital and Line 6(ick!) amps and it sounds great through them all. The distorted tone cleans up well with just a twist of the vol pot. I don't know what kid of pots they use but I have never had a Gibson, Hamer, Fender, Jackson, Schecter, Etc..... with such a useable sweep. I love the tone. It's very versitile. You could play a blues or jazz gig with this even though it looks like rock!

The action is perfect for me. I don't like it too low but I am also not a masocist. This has a great medium action. The guitar is a few years old so I assume it's mee set up a few times. I haven't made any adjustments yet but I don't need to.
The fret work is very nice. No rough edges or uneveness. The finish is .......I'm speachless. The guitar is such a great sounding and playing guitar that it could be painted shit brown and I wouldn't care. It just so happens to be beautifuly gaudy. My girl has already proclamed that I can never sell it and she wants to mount it on the wall in the house because it looks so cool.
These guys do great work. I heard a lot of the employees are former gloy day Charvel/Jackson and BC Rich people. It seems like they took they're older great ideas and skills and just improved.

I haven't dealt with them yet. I am actually interested in a Roxie 5 string bass as well as possible future guitars and will be contacting them soon.
As for the warranty, this is a used guitar. You take chances but it seems like an easy chance to take with this one.

The Roxie lists for $3250. That' around he same list as a Gibson Les Paul Standard. The GMP BLOWS AWAY the Les Paul in quality, sound and playability. (lets face it Gibson pretty much sucks. I have spent serious money on Historics and Custom Shops and they still suck)
I have been involved in music for (gulp)30 years. I've been playing guitar for 22. Over the years and currently I have owned countless (100+) Vintage,Custom and regular Gibsons (Les Paul Customs,Standards,Deluxes,Specials, Juniors,Explorers,ES335s etc..) and Fenders (Strats, Teles,Jazzmasters,)as well as old Hamers, Schecters (real ones) ESP (80's neck thru nice ones) custom mid 80s Jacksons(Soloists and RR Student, early Charvels, old BC Rich, old Kramers ++++++ and a Moradian LS-74 (one of 13). With the exception of the Moradian I would give up everything and replace with various GMPs (they make Les Paulish, V,Explorer, Firebird,PRS and stratish models as well). They really are that good. I have let some other musician friends of mine play the GMP and they are amazed and want one too. These guys own nice High buck Gibsons + Fenders Etc....
P.s I HATE PRS guitars and would NEVER own one.

I have 4 Roxie's... 2 with Duncan Humbuckers/tune-a-matic/trapeze tailpiece and 2 with TV Jones Filtertrons/Scaller roller bridge/Bigsby tremelo. They are constructed of tone chambered Mahogany bodies with carved Maple tops/Mahogany necks with Ebony fretboards/beatiful diamond shaped abalone inlays(purple sparkle on my purple one)/Sperzel locking tuners. The neck scale is Fender spec 25 1/2" with Dunlop 6100 big frets... the necks have a FAT back shape with 1 11/16 width at the nut. I have re-wired the guitars from a traditional Gretsche type to a 3-way toggle/Master Volume/individual coil split for each pickup... I now can achieve a VERY btroad range of tones...

I use a wide range of amps, the main ones being Tweed & Brown Deluxes, Marshall JTM45, Marshall TSL100 and a Red Knob 80's Dual Showman.
