This strat style guitar says "USA" on the neck, so I'm assuming it's made in the US, however, Godin is a Quebec company. It's got 24 frets, 1 volume, 1 tone, 1 humbucker, 2 single coil, 5 way selector switch, and a solid body (not sure what type)and maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard. It comes with a whammy system, but no locking tremolo. I don't use the whammy for the sole reason that when I do, the guitar goes way out of tune.

I've had this guitar for about 5 years. Learnt much of my playing on it, so I thought it's time I gave it a review. I play mostly rock, hard rock, and metal, and this baby can cut it for all genres. It's got a nice smooth Jazz/blues sound when using the neck pickup, and a nice crunch with the humbucker. The humbucker was nice, but I had it replaced with an EMG 81, for higher output sound. The thing screams with this pickup.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action was good, for me that is, but I adjusted it a little lower. The finish was absolutely beautiful, and it's extremely comfortable to play. When I took it home, I found nothing wrong with it.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar withstood plenty of live shows. The hardware has lasted me 5 years. The only thing is that the gold on the bridge is wearing off, no big deal. The strap buttons were solid, but they could've been a little bigger since a lot of my straps seemed to fall of the guitar. That was easily fixed with strap locks. I would, and have used it at gigs without a backup.

I've been playing for about 7 years, and this guitar gets more and more enjoyable each time I play it. I run it through a Marshall G80RCD, using a Zoom GFX-707 processor. To be honest, I've played $1500 fender strats, and $2000 Gibsons, and personally this Godin was much more comfortable to play than those guitars, and the sound is very competitive. It's an Excellent guitar for it's price. The guitar may have a "Beginner Player's" price tag on it, but this is no "Beginner" guitar.

Basically it came as a strat with a double coil in the bridge position, but the 24 fret neck has a shorter scale than a standard strat-o. The guitar is very playable, light (a lot more than my tele) an with a thin but comfortable nek, the freatboard is rosewood and the maple body is very resonant. I totally changed the pick up configuration: now on the bridge it has a Duncan's quarter pound (for strat), and at the nek it has an old J90 (bridge) I had lying around. The pickup selector could be better, but the guitar was cheap.

Sound : 8
Before the replacement of the pickups, I actually found the sound on the thin side, but after replacing them I am now very happy with the souns I get. It has a lot of bass, and with the middle position I get a very honky sound with a lot of mids that sounds old (I love this tone).

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The action was too low for me (but it's just me), otherwise I found that for the price I paid it was well built, quite like a standard strat.

Reliability/Durability : 7
This guitar is light, but I don't think it is fragile, it is about three years old, I took it to gigs without a backup and never had problems. The sweat has worn the gold on the bridge, and some of the screws of the pickguard are now rusty, just the same happened to my original tele and I think it is just normal.

I have never dealt with the company

Overall Rating : 10
I ham quite happy with this guitar, it has really a lot of sounds, a lot more than my (beloved) tele has. I bought it as a second guitar, after an orrible experience with a squier strat and a quite good but not enough experience with a cheap (quite the same price) Jackson, now I use it a lot. The genres I play ranges between country(or something similar soundwise), metal (not a lot right now), and a wide variety of crunch sounds, from the nek 'buker is possible to obtain good jazzy sounds too. Initially I had problems with the shorter scale, because I like high string tension, but with 10/46 strings I solved this problems. I also tried a Duncan Holdsworth at the bridge, but for my taste the sound doesn't get better, the single coils tend to give sounds that pass throgh way better, withot mud.

Made in 1995? Controls: 1 volume, 1 tone, 5-way selector Pickups: S/S/H Mahogany neck "Dark Sunburst" finish - brown to black. Stratish body and bridge. 24 frets.

Sound : 4
I have used it with a Crate amp and a Marshall, and the tone is never warm or deep enough - it tends to get a very thin crunch, and you have to do a lot with the EQ and pdeal to make it sound heavy. It sounds decent in a mellow capacity, however.
At first, it at least sounded clean, but eventually, it became "buzzy" after about three years.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
The action was too low for my taste, but that's easily fixed. The frets are weak and easily notched, though, and the fret filing inevitably affects intonation, no matter how you set it up.

Reliability/Durability : 6
The electronics have deteriorated and become noisy after four years. I might use it as a backup, but would try to avoid using it live.

1-year warranty

It's the sound that's most important, and that's why it gets such a low overall rating. I've gotten used to it, but it just sounds too tinny, and you really have to work to get a good deep, warm, crunching tone. Even in its price range, there are probably better guitars.

24 frets, made in the USA. one volume, one tone. 5-way pickup switch, pickup configuration is S/S/H with Godin pickups. I don't know much more about the guitar, my brother bought it, and I adopted it.

Sound : 9
Good sound. I use this guitar to tune down to C#, no fret buzz and great action. I use a peavey special 212, no problems there. Great sound, use it from everything between Pink Floyd, to Randy Rhoads, to Limp Bizkit.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Percect. except the input jack broke but that's a sinch to fix. 5 buck repair job.

Reliability/Durability : 9
It seems alright, I was a little nervous at first, but this guitar is now my backup guitar, if I'm playing blues, but most of the time i alternate between this & my Ibanez

Good guitar, I didn't have to pay anything for it, great for soloing, and playing rythm. it's a real nice guitar.
