This was my first guitar, so I am determined to be fair in the review, although I have to say that it is hard not to give it a good review! The main feature I have to say that Godin have done really well with is the neck pickup: It has an incredible bluesy tone to it and when paired with slight distortion I would say its hard to beat. The bridge pickup is also good but is better used for funk guitar more than grungy guitar, although thats not to say it is bad in that department. Another thing that always attracts me (personal thing) to a guitar is the thin neck - it makes it easy to play chords and solos, etc. Playability is definately the main attraction of this guitar - I would say that makes it one of the best electric guitars to learn to play on.

Sound : 9
The sound from the neck pickup is immense. It constitutes styles from Mark Knopfler and also blues guitar, although not restricted just to that sound, thats just what I mainly use it for. The tonality of the guitar on a whole is nothing less than superb. My style of playing is usually through distortion and it also plays well with this. I would recommend pairing it with a good amp (Crate goes well with it) and also a bit of reverb - after that you cant go wrong. The one thing I would say about it is that it lacks the extra crunch that guitars like Ibanez make, but I dont suppose its designed for that.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
It may just be my particular guitar (I bought it second hand from a friend who had to get the bridge re-adjusted to stop the guitar going out of tune), but it does go out of tune alot, which is less than handy - especially if you use the tremolo bar alot. Apart from this the design and finish of the guitar is exceptional (it is particularly handsome to look at!). Maybe one other thing - the lead adaptor can come loose at times but then again that may just be a personal thing.

Reliability/Durability : 7
I would say the guitar looses marks here due to its tendency to detune itself at the wrong time. I play live with my band in Scotland and the music is very energetic and ruthless at times, so its less than handy to de-tune all the time. For this reason I would always have a backup guitar for playing live, but mind you, I wouldn't play with any guitar without a backup. The strong point here is how long it lasts. It is an incredibly hardy guitar - my one in particular has taken some beatings at gigs before and is still none the worse for ware. Overall its the durability that keeps the marks high on this one.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Because I got it second-hand I have never had to contact the company, plus I am overseas so any problems can be sorted out by my local guitar dealer. I am not made of money!

Overall Rating : 9
Having been playing for five years and been around many, many other guitarists and guitars, it is hard to compare. The style of the Godin G-2000 (G-series USA), is very much different to the next guitar. However, I have no hesitation in saying I would never trade it in for another guitar - this is a guitar with a sound second to almost none (perhaps with the exception of Santana's PRS!), I would recommend this guitar to anyone - whether they are just learning to play or they are a veteran guitarist. It is not easy to find in the UK and I feel privilaged to own one.

Hi ! This is a follow up of the review I made in 1998 , I have read my review and although I feel that it`s a accurate ,I now know more than I did when posting it.
I have now a Gibson les paul classic plus (with seymour duncan antiquity humbucker ),and a fender 50`s reissue (the first batch of newly made mexicain ,mine is fitted whith lindy fralins vintage hot) and can now juge the Godin much more accurately .
I have since changed the two single coil ( I think they are ceramic staked coil ) for a set of lindy fralin blues ,big improvement !

Sound : 10
This guitar is still my number one , belive it or not ,because it`s made like what I would expect from a custom shop guitar ,one of the good ones !
Back when I bought it, the store had just receivded these new models ,and I guy that I tought was a good player was playing one of these ,and seemed to be impressed ! I figure that if he liked it ,than it was good enough for me , I was really lucky . Because I have rarely seen this particular model (on the headstock it`s written : G series USA ) , I`m sure that godin was making it`s name back then ,and tried
to impress the guitar market in order to get a good name .
I`m sure that the fingerboard is made of brazilian rosewood ,the neck is hard rock maple (you can see a light stripping pattern ,usually called flame that is even for the entire lenght of the neck ,some other came whith some birdseye pattern) that you usually find in expensive models , the body is made of nice and even alder .
The sound of such a guitar ,fitted whith great pickups is fantastic , the brige humbucker is still the original .

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action is a little hard to evaluate , I would prefer a great setup to start whith , but I really does`nt matter . What does matter it to have the possibility to actually adjust it .
Once tune to my liking ( pickup height ,neck relief ,adjust the harmonics ,etc...) , this guitar prove to be stable .
I prefer this guitar over much more expensive model , the only flaw was that the floyd rose ( the part that hod the string at the neck) ,was not matching the radius of the neck and was too high.
I have found one after market part ,that is made to 9.5 radius and is a little lower ,so now this guitar is perfect for me .

Reliability/Durability : 10

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
If there was only one guitar I could keep ,it would be this one .
I think that Godin did impress the market ,but came to realised that it was simply too expensive to make ,and discoutined this model , it was replace whith a similar guitar ,but it has a bigger body (gibson lookalike). Those new model are also good but not as good as the G-2000 ,and surely not as good looking .
I now these are rare , I live in quebec where they are made , and have only seen a guitar magazine reviewed this model ; Guitare et claviers , situated in france , and they gave this guitar a pefect score . If you find one ,try it I`m sure you`ll like it .

O.K. this guitar is very similar to a fender strat H.S.S (humbucker , single coil, single coil.It also have a licence floyd rose locking tremolo systeme , a five way seletor switch , one volume control(which is great because it`s pretty gradual) , and a tone control. The one I got is an sunburst(purple sunburst !)whith a white pickgard , a marple neck whith a rosewood fretboard. This is one of the very few 1995 model I havent seen many like it , most of the other come whith a vintage style tremolo , nice , but I prefer the floyd rose type. The pickups on this guitar are very effective in almost any style .Too bad they stopped makin`it ! The neck is similar to a jackson but not as wide , it is pretty good for the academic position and for blues Jimi Hendrix style ! It has an alder body and the neck is 24 frets. A 9 because it` simple and does almost anything.

Sound : 10
My music style is the blues , and ,I also like to play some rock , even some death metal whith hi-gain solo harmonics and this guitar delivers in all ,whith a comparable qualite in the sound ether way . You can get a good S.R.V type of sound if you have the right amp setup. And you can get incredible harmonics because of the pickups quality and the quality of the wood they have used .This is particulary helfull in a hi-gain situation ! The humbucker is stong good for lead rich/full power sound . The neck single coil is ideal for blues clean (wonderfull shimering sound),good for crunchy rythym ,and very good use whith a metal sound but turning down the volume of the guitar (this give you good z.z.top crunch all the way to almost clean vintage sound . I will give it a 10 beacause there is nothing that I dislike about it , all the sound you`ve hoping when buying this type of guitar are there whith a great distinctive quality .Very versatile .

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
This guitar was great for 2 years but I only change the stings , and , litle by litle everything loosen up . One day I fixed it but the action was not as close to the neck as it was before , and the pickups were loose too , so i`ve got to go to a repair center to have it tune to perfection with the pickups properly setup . But this guitar is capable of great things once tune properly . I`l give it a 8 probably a 9 once tuned !

Reliability/Durability : 8
This guitar seems solid I`m shure it will never fail me , you do need a backup because you could always break a string . I have put staplock it`s a great protection for (20$) . I will have this guitar forever and I hope nothing will happen to it , it is not fragile but I would not abuse it because I love it .I will give it a 8 because of the quality of the wood used it will gain in tone with the aging process insted of just getting dry and old .

Customer Support : 7
I`ve never dealt whith the company but I know it is a small company(sometimes I think that small company rules !). By the care taken to the guitar (I`ve seen a video of the making of godin`s solidbody , and it looks like a pro custom shop ) you can guess that the company will stand behind it`s product . I will give it an estimate of 7 for customer support .

Overall Rating : 10
I`ve been playing for 9 years ,I have a huges and kettner attax-80 solidstate combo (great clean, vintage sound), a morley wha-wha bad horsie , I`m in the process of buying a mesa boogie dc-2 studio caliber , a gibson les pauls studio ,and a alesis nanoverb multi-effects for reverb , chorus , delay , flange , rotary speaker , and more . I can wait to try the Godin whith this kit .If it would get stolen there is no way I could buy another one , because they don`t make this model anymore , but they make one probaly as good but it looks ugly , so I would buy maybe a fender H.S.S. for an upgrade ? I love it`s flexibilite and the resonance of the guitar ( this in not a question of price paid for the guitar , it`s due to the quality of the wood but whith an equaly important assembly and crafmanship ) that is in all honesty the best I`ve seen . When buying a guitar always listen to it unplugged and check for the listening volume especialy of the low strings (check a few of the same model and you will find one that is louder than the other that is the good one , nerver mind the color . If you take this same guitar and look for internal vibation (the vibration ceated by the strings ) that travel in the guitar , it should be stonger . This vibration is an indication of the "spirit" of the guitar ,the more vibration ,the stronger the tone !!! I will give it a 10 because there are better guitar than this , but they are at least double what I`ve paid for for this one for a comparable quality . It`s too bad they stopped makin it but if you ever find one used you sould definitivly by it if it`s the kind of guitar your looking for.
