Features : 9
Purchased in 2009. Comes with a really nice flamed maple top with a sort of heritage cherry sunburst. Fixed bridge and a pair a Seymour Duncan ceramic P90's. Body style is somewhere around a Les Paul/Telecaster. The body is mahogany (and quite dense - looks like 3 or 4 pieces glued together.

Giving it 9 because it doesnt have extra gadgets like coil taps and a trem and so on - but who wants that on this style of guitar anyway?

The bridge has a whopping big solid metal block submerged into the wood to anchor the strings

Sound : 10
I tend to play classic rock/bluesy/folky stuff and this guitar is a very versatile contender in all of these genres. The original pickups sounded OK but as I make my own pickups, I dropped a couple of Alnico P90's wound to the traditional spcification in - A5 at the bridge and A2 at the neck. Nothing wrong with the Seymours, I just wanted something with more chime and clarity - Alnico wins over ceramics in this respect in my opinion.

The guitar itself is very lively, sustains really well and despite the single coils is very quiet (the control cavity is screened with shielding paint as standard).

Bridge pickup can spit and bite when driven, cleans up great for articulate airy near acoustic sounds, neck pickup fuller but very detailed and the two together have a very open sound with a bit of single coil "quack" in the mix.

Great sounding guitar - (the quality construction is a major factor) and really versatile. Sounds a damn site better than a P90 equiped SG that I once owned and 1/3rd of the price! And more solid.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The neck is relatively wide but it really suits me and is so easy to play (I tend to go for wider necks anyway). Nice flattish radius (16"?), no string cholking and effortless bends.

Lowered the action to taste, no rattles at all. Frets immaculately finished.

The wood finishing is top notch. Gloss on the body, satin neck.

Balances perfectly, not too heavy, comforable and sits in just the right playing position for me when strapped on.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Only one complaint - the pickup selector switch. Just could not rely on getting the bridge pickup every time and in the end gave up and fitted a Oak Grigsby 3 way switch.

Otherwise built like a tank. I've owned far more expensive guitars than this that would give up or snap first.

Still give it a 10 because the switch is just an unfortunate niggle.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Can't imagine that I'd have to bother them.

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing for over 30 years and comparing this to all the guitars that I've owned over this time, the Godin is is an excellent instrument that contends easily with the expensive American names.

The price tag is irrelevent; this is a simply a seriously good guitar. Godin have obviously put a lot of thought into this instrument because so many individual things are right and work so well together.

I've got the early 00's 24 fret model. Dark gold flake. Black hardware. Simple simple simple. That is not a bad thing. Electronically speaking it's a tele (2xpups, 3way, vol + tone pots). Except the pickups are p90s.

The paint on it appears to be indestructible. I paw away at it week after week with my nails and blue tortex, and it cleans right up with no visible wear.

The knobs are those little heavily knurled guys. Wish they had numbers sometimes, but great for pinkie volume swells and quick adjusts from chordal to single note playing.

Sound : 10
I've been looking for a second guitar that sounds like this one. It doesn't exist. Running through a Dr. Z Mazerati Sr. combo is just ridiculous. Detail, metal, wood, how old your strings are, what angle the pick was at, what you had for lunch, you can hear it all. I played this guitar in a two piece band with a drummer and with a little boost at the amp for some bass, you didn't feel like it was missing anything.

I've played a couple others, and I do have this to say - don't waste this guitar or the pickups on 9's. Beef up on the strings and you will be massively rewarded in tone. And controllable feedback. And using the volume knob as your overdrive. Almost every time we play out a couple guitarist come up and compliment my sound... which is not all that common for an indie band.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Had great setup when I bought it for 10s.

My favorite thing other than the sound of the guitar is how low to the body the strings are. It's not an inch off the body like some Les Pauls, it's just less than a centimeter. Just feels tight, close.

I run the action a tad high to allow absolutely abusive dynamics. The beast can take it!

Oh, and lastly, most guitars have subtle intonation errors, nut/zero fret problems, etc. I can run my Petersen up and down this thing and be amazed at the results, it's the most in tune guitar I've ever owned.

Reliability/Durability : 9
My tone pot crackles a tad. My output jack is a bit loose. I suppose I should fix them. *shrug* Other than that it's a tank, no signs of degradation in spite of this being my main guitar in two rehearsals per week plus shows since I bought it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No need, it's a guitar.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 19 years. I use small tube combos (mostly made by Dr. Z but I keep a Yamaha T-100 and a Seymour Duncan combo around).

I just bought another very similar 24 fret Godin (except it has humbuckers and someone swapped the tuners out) as a home guitar. Nice to have the same feel at home and at the studio.

I'm one of those guys who can spend all day in a guitar store just playing everything there. At first I go by brand, or looks. This guitar had neither. But since I've owned it, no Gibson LP comes close. I've played one Jr and an SG that have the same sorta vibe... and both were vintage and spendy. This is my all around guitar. I occasionally dust off my Silvertone or Tele Reissue if the tune calls for a thinner more biting tone, but this thing is the best piece I've got (and also one of the cheapest!). Great sound, great playability, dense but not overwhelmingly heavy, reliable.

Godin should re-release the 24 fret versions of this.

Features : 10
Features adequately described elsewhere. Key here is the SIMPLICITY of the design and features - 2 pickups; three-position switch; one tone and one volume control. A really cool, basic "hot rod".

If you're looking for something that'll give you "option anxiety", this ain't it. I give it a '10' for basic, simple goodness.

Nice freebie: more-than-decent gig bag.

Sound : 10
Add it up: Mahogany body and neck + rosewood fingerboard + Seymour Duncan P90's = rude-boy dirt, grit, earthiness and honk.

"Delicate", "round" and "sweet" are NOT part of the vocabulary of this bad boy.

Played through either my (new) Fender Super Champ XD or my (old, slightly modified) Roland Bolt 60, sound is pure dirty heaven.

I'm not a believer in the "one guitar that does it all" concept. I don't believe such a guitar exists, no matter how many switches it has. Also, such a guitar would eliminate the reason to have a lot of fun, special-purpose guitars.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
How can you really complain about stuff like string gauges or action set too high (or low)? Everyone's different. I changed the strings to 11-53's and raised the action a tad. Started smiling even bigger.

Straight neck. Clean frets. Finish without blemishes. Nice touch - wooden truss rod adjustment cover plate.

Read some complaints about the tuners. Can't find anything wrong with them personally.

Body SEEMS to be a single piece of mahogany (if not, I sure can't find the seam); no binding or trim.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Hey, it's a guitar, not an SUV - you take care of it, it'll take care of you.

That said, it feels very solid.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No basis for an opinion.

Overall Rating : 10
Apart from the other good stuff above, the thing that stands out for me, maybe above EVERYTHING else, is how comfortable this thing is to play, especially standing up.

It's beautifully balanced. The short-scale length and overall dimensions make it feel like my old Miata sports car. Nothing; Strat, LP or anything else just "fits" so damn good. Feels like a tailor-made suit.

This body style is aesthetically pleasing, functional and comfortable. I'm getting more of it. Anyone want to buy a couple of Telecasters, a Strat and LP?

Guitars like this might make you feel stupid for spending more than $1000 on one.

I have the older Godin p90. The model i own dosent have the nicer looking body, its just a plain dark brown finish rather than the quilted body or whatever it is they make them off now. So if the wood is different im not sure but im 99% sure their the same.

I dont think this guitar is packed with features but that dosent make it a bad guitar, sometimes all you need is a simple but beautiful sounding guitar rather than a bunch of gimmicks.

Sound : 10
I wont lie, this guitar had to grow on me. My parents bought it for my birthday when i was 18. So have had it 3 years now. After playing with it though it started to really suit my tastes, its very easy to play, i love how the bridge is set up and the pickups are deep down inside the body really makes for nice action. It dosent sound as great for lead guitar as my strat does but all in all its a BETTER GUITAR and better sounding than my much more expensive strat.

FAVORITE POINT: The rolling lows on this guitar is amazing it has such a beautiful tone.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Frankly one of the things that i didnt like about this guitar was it wasnt fancy looking, so naturally as a young player i didnt like that ive now matured and bit and dont mind it (mine is the older model without flame or quilt top, just a dark brown, completely flat bodied guitar). HOWEVER the newer Godin p90's are now very beautiful, if they play anything like mine which is effortless, Then you shouldent hesitate to buy one, go to your local store try a few out and pick your favorite i promise its a solid quality guitar.

only thing that might bother you... its heavy, like a les paul style heavy.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Its solid, 3 years strong so far, no problems. Replace the strings every now and then and have a blast.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Ive never had to call them so i honestly cant say.

Overall Rating : 10
If your looking for a guitar with alot of bang for buck. Dont hesitate to buy. Heck if your looking for at guitars that are much more expensive PLEASE TRY THESE OUT FIRST and then compare to guitars that are more expensive. I think youll find this is a well made guitar.

this guitar was made i think in canada,it has a mahogany body and neck nice semi closs finish 2 duncan sp3 p90s in it came with gig bag. also sperzel type strap locks but i didnt get the male are the part that went on the strap. one volume and tone control. which i rate high cause i like it simple.

Sound : 9
i like it real well playing blues and southern rock and some country. which what i had bought it for. and i was playing it on a peavey delta blues 210 tube amp and it was cool but it just would not clean up for me aand i almost got rid of it. and i didnt want to because it played well the neck was just my style, but just would not stay clean so i was going to change pickups. but then i played it on my dean markley signature 120 all tube amp 120 watts, an amp like clapton i seen use and it was awesome. on the higher wattage tube amps because of the headroom plus the 6L6 tubes the godin and the duncan sp90s came alive clean think of les paul mary ford jazz clean, i love it. i keep the guitar just for that amp to play clean. it a good guitar cheaper then a gibson if you like p90 guitar i suggest trying this out. i use godin, zion strat with emgs, a american 64 fender tele, i have a gibson es335 and a usa fender p-bass this guitar is as good.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
it was decent did slight adjustment on the neck and that was it, finish was very good every thing was great.

Reliability/Durability : 9
everything on this guitar is made wel and should last with proper care. but iam very picky and i gig 2to3 times a month. the only reason i take a back up not because iam worried about the guitar in case i break a string.

never had to deal with them, never had a problem.

As previous reviews. Natural mahogany finish. 2 x Seymour Duncan P90 pups. Tuners work great. Came with very nice Godin semi soft case.

Sound : 9
I go from pop to rock. Sound is quite bright which is great for jangly rhythm. Used with a Matamp 1224 (valve) and Fender Stage lead (tranny) it sounds excellent. Very cutting but not as harsh as a Telecaster. Wouldn't choose it for blues/metal but you could probably make it work with a bit of knob twiddling. Very quiet guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Very solidly built. Good weight and balance. Excellent finish. I bought it used off eBay and with a bit of cleaning up and adjustment, I've got an excellent guitar. Action is low with no fret buzz. Strings very easy to bend with no choking. Natural satin finish is also classy.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Would trust this guitar implicitly. Very confident that it will last for years.

Lovely guitar. looks a bit conservative for some I would guess, but a very good guitar. If this one went missing, I would get another.

The Godin SP90 is a great looking guitar with through the body stringing, Seymour Duncan P90 pickups, passive electronics, a maple neck, and a gorgeous finish. Godin parts are made in Montreal, Canada and shipped for assembly to the US. The tuners are closed with a 3 and 3 configuration. The body is Les Paul style. Godin guitars generously come with a guitar case, and strap mounts that are compatible with locking tuner mechanisms (although they don't include the male parts that go on the straps).

Having a rear-mounted bridge looks really cool. One drawback I will mention about re-stringing: you thread new strings through the back of the guitar. Once in the back, the end of the string must be aimed RIGHT through the centre of the hole at the front of the guitar, otherwise it won't make it through the guitar (it gets stuck in the middle). This gives restringing a "threading the needle" frustration. Multiply that by 6 strings, and it gets annoying quickly. Further, since the string must be aimed perfectly in the centre, forget about re-threading a previously-used guitar string. If the end of the string is bent, it makes re-stringing close to impossible.

Sound : 2
I don't know whether it is Godin, the shop I bought the guitar at, or me, but there was a buzz in my guitar that nobody could get rid of. Getting tired of the loose-change sounds coming through my amp, I'm returning it today. I brought it in for adjustment, and the buzz never went away. The tech actually made it worse. I bought this guitar to have a decent sound for recording. I believe I just ended up with a lemon. Even when I set the action VERY high and let the tension rod out, I still got buzz. I'm very disappointed because it's a great looking guitar and has all the features I like. The pickups are nice too. The neck appears to be warped.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 3
The factory settings had the neck straight flat. When I capo'd the first fret and fretted the 14th, the strings were all flush down on the neck with no play. This led to lots of buzzing. Tinkering didn't fix the problem, nor did taking it in to the shop. I am by enlarge an accoustic guitar player and have an aggressive strum; however, I lent the guitar to my friend who's been playing electric for 15 years and he said the buzz would drive him crazy. I don't mean to bash Godin here - the guitar looks well made. I think I just bought a lemon.

Reliability/Durability : 8
The guitar is a bit heavy and sturdy. It looks like it would have no problem gigging. Add strap locks to your budget and you're in business.

Customer Support : 6
I didn't deal with Godin. The store I'm dealing with told me that a certain amount of buzz for electrics is normal. I hate when service people tell you there's nothing wrong with your product ("It's supposed to do that"). No it isn't, it sounds like a bumble bee!

Overall Rating : 3
I've been playing guitar for over 15 years, and have 3 other guitars. I tried out a Godin Exit22 before this one and had a problem with one of the tuners, but no buzz. I wrote a scathing review for the Music Research Works EGJ24 but in retrospect after fixing all its problems, it plays better than the Godin I bought (better action, no buzzing). However, it's very likely that I just bought a lemon, it happens. Other people have had very good things to say about their SP90. Notwithstanding, mine's going back to the store.

I play rock/blues/contemporary Christian worship. Use Pod X3 live through PA or through Laney LC15R (small but classic valve amp).

A range of tones - classic rock, rock and roll, jazz - all warm and pure but it can put out a beautiful crunch. Roll off the volume for smooth, creamy tones. But it won't get anywhere close to a strat sound. P90s are noisy near the amp/speakers (as expected).

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
No flaws, very well set up, good action, looks beautiful (I think). Access higher up the neck is a little limited, so I don't think it will suit those who like loads of upper fret noodling.

Reliability/Durability : 10
All high quality parts and manufacture. No reliability issues after two years.

Been playing 35 years. Also have Tele Thinline (f-hole with humbuckers).

I wanted something with P90s to supplement the humbuckered Tele. Tried Les Paul studio types (compared the Gibson with the Tokais - thought the Gibson was superior to the Korean Tokai but inferior to the Japanese Tokai). But these were all about ??700, so I looked elsewhere and came across the Godin - which in my opinion is the best of the lot and half the price. Amazing.

I love playing this guitar and enjoy handling it every time I pick it up. The only limitation is the (relatively) limited access to the very highest frets. If lost I would certainly replace it. Well done Godin.

Mine is the dark gold with the p-90s.I paid about $400 for it used. I wanted this guitar for the pickups and the color. I am very happy with both. I wanted a guitar for some gigs so I wouldnt have to bring my les paul custom or my custom shop tele. Now, all I bring is my Godin. I love this guitar. You can get the sweetest cleans to the most rockin tones from this guitar. It is not a metal axe. It was made to be played through a tube amp. It just sings out with every note.

Sound : 10
I love the short neck and the width of the neck. It fits like a glove. I used to have an old melody maker whose neck felt alot like this one. The body really resonates with the strings too. kind of like a tele. The tones from the p 90s are sharp and crisp with lots of bite, but not over-bearing. To me they are perfect.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Even though I got mine used, it didnt need anything at all. Godins are known for their quality guitars. I knew it would be a great guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 10
They dont make enough gold sparkle guitars. Im already looking for a gold lg with the humbuckers.

Customer Support : 10
never had a problem. I CALLED them once to find out which Seymour Duncan P-90 was used in the bridge position ( since there is about 10 different ones) because the previous owner swapped it out.????????????. I talked to a live person who gave me the model number.

I am sold on Godin guitars. This coming from somebody who wouldnt even pick up a guitar unless it was a gibson or fender.

Godin LG SP90
Just as so abundantly, previously described.

Sound : 10
I've played classic rock & blues for 20 years. I've owned this guitar for 2 years and have put it thru it's paces on several different amps (all tube; Hiwatt DR100, Peavey valve king, Fender vibrochamp, Epiphone valve junior) and although the tone varies with each different amp, this guitar with it's P90's has the best overall tone I've ever heard. And yes, I've played strats, teles and LP's.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
This guitar is set up perfectly and the craftmanship is immpecible.
Although the neck is a bolt on, I find the finely crafted heel makes the upper register frets even more accessible (all 24 of them), than any other guitar I've played. The body thru bridge also gives this guitar as much sustain as any neck thru design I've played.
The overall impression of this guitar is that of pure Class, and demands respect.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is definitely a well crafted, dependable, durable machine.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed, but hear Godin is excellent.

I agree 100% with 2 previous people. Don't feel like wasting time.
Beautiful guitar. I love it!!

Sound : 10
I love the sound from these seymour Duncan sp-90 pups. High output!
Mountain- Mississippi Queen. Jethro Tull- Aqualung. Early Carlos Santana- Black Magic Woman, Soul Sacrifice, Oye Como Va, Get Ready.
This Godin nails this sound perfectly in my humble opinion.
These pups are Seymour Duncan SP90-3 Custom Soapbar pups. The website says each pup has 2 large ceramic magnets for x-tra output. They do scream, that's way I lowered mine to 1/4" below strings.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Dito the previous 2 reviews. Rock solid.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Dito previous 2 reviews. It's not a lightwieght and it's not a lard. It has a nice heft to it. I like that. Feels solid.

Had the guitar for 6 mos. No problems. No dealings with the company.
I completely trust Chris and Bruce at Mainely Music. In the past 6 yrs. or so I've gone to them for ALL my musical needs and these guys are A-1!! I would go to them before contacting any of the guitar companys.

Overall Rating : 10
What was said in the 2 previous reviews says it all for me. I agree 100%! Wonderful guitar all the way around. I have a Gibson LP Classic, 1996 Fender 50th Anniv. Strat Plus with lace sensor pups and a Carvin sc90. This Godin has it's own particular sound and yet sounds like the Fender and the Gibson in some aspects.
I set the sp90's at 1/4 inch below strings. The Duncan website recommends 3/32. That setting screams too much for me. I'm VERY pleased with this guitar. If anything was to happen to it I would definitely get another one. I purchased it new. It cost $559.00 with natural satin gloss. I also ordered a hard shell case for $59.95. The case is VERY well built and worth the 60 bucks. It looks very similar to the case that comes with Gibson guitars. Been playing 38 yrs. Not in a band, don't want to be. Just love playing on my own. Love good quality anything. Love the Blues and Rock.

This Godin LG P90 is'nt mine, I borrowe it just to see what a huitar with P90's is all about. And I really enjoyed it, but I'll get to that later. It has this satin red tranparent finnish on it and has sort LP meets strat meet tele body to it with a 24 fret bolt-on neck. It has a set of schaller tuners and 2 Seymour Duncan SP90 pickups in it along with a volume and tone control. It also sports a nice schaller tune-o-matic bridge and a string through body design that looks really cool and I thinks really helps with the sustain. It was made in Canada and the US and comes with probably the sweetest gig bag I have ever see, trust me I hate gig bags.

Sound : 10
For anyone looking to play anything but country I think you will be pleasently surprised. These pickups are very high output and have alot of balls, but not too much, even though they are single coils. It has the same output as my strat but a more powerful and full sound. I ran it through a traynor ycv40 combo(clean channel) and a marshall jcm800 combo(dirty channel). I was very impressed with the versatility of these pickups for any and all styles of rock and the blues but there was a little noise, you know that 60 cycle hum from single coils, but no more then my strat or my tele. The bridge pickup is not as brite as a regular single coil, actually it was alot warmer and had alot more balls and the neck pickup absolutely sings. It is so warm and beautiful that I think it actually outperforms strats, teles and LPs, for what I use it for. Also, for a single coil guitar with a bolt on neck the sustain is just as good, if not better, then my Les Paul which I thik comes back to the bridge. It is a schaller tune-o-matic with a string though design. But unlike a tele string through design it has a string block and it is made of brass so I think that really boosts the sustain, plus the neck is in a very deep and tight pocket. All in all this guitar is very deceiving, you think alot less of this guitar before you try it. As for the 60 cycle hum, like I said it is no more then my strat or tele, once you start playing (clean or overdirve) its gone and when you are not playing it is'nt that bad. If you really cant handle it when you are not playing just stick the pickup selector switch in the center position.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action is great for lead and rhythym. The guitar body is very comfortable, very comfortable and the finnish is beautiful, no flaws what so ever. The only thing I can think of is it has a Gibson-esque type neck, its a little big and hefty for guys with little hands, but if you are experienced enough you can get around that without any diffuculty. Trust me I have small hands.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar seems to be strong as they come. Mahogany neck and body, come on, tough as nails. I think you could totally depend on it to get you through whatever you need to do, as long as it is not country. Hardware is all of fine quality, nothing rattles and nothing has fallen apart.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I dont own this guitar, I borrowed it.

Overall Rating : 10
Look, if you need a unique sound you cant get from a strat, tele or LP this is it. If you need a good backup for a strat and an LP this is it. And if you just want a good all around guitar that'll get you through what you need to do this is it. Me personaly, I am the type of guy that buys a guitar for a purpose, and by that I mean if I buy a Tele I want it for a sparkilg clean and a chunky dirty sound if I buy a Les Paul its so I can rock hard, no questions asked. I presently own a Gibson Swamp Ash Studio Les Paul, a Fender American Standard Strat and a Fender Highway One Tele and soon enough something with P90's will be in my arsenal. I am a firm beleiver that if you want a certain sound you have to buy a certain guitar, in essence guitars are purpose built and you can only get out of them what they are desigend to do. I am not a collector, even though I have 5 guitars (not a very big collection), I am a just another guitar player trying to find the right tones. So, in conclusion this guitar actually can be a healthy backup for pretty much any guitar besides a tele (if you need a backup) but it also stands out with its own very distinct tone and once you play it you will realize that ,along with the other guitars I have mentioned, it is purpose built and can serve quite a purpose. Just dont neglect your other guitars, because you will fall in love with this guitar. Personally, I think my search is over for the guitar with the P90's and now I am onto a dot or an ES series guitar. This guitar is a value in every aspect, espescially at $620 CDN, and I highly recommend trying one out for yourself because your opinion is the thing that matters the most when it cmes to your tone and because P90's are'nt for everyone. Awesome guitar, cheers Godin.

2006 22-fret, mohogany body/neck, rosewood fretboard, 3-on-a-side headstock. Kind of a Tele/Paul hybrid with Duncan P-90s. Trans red high-gloss finish. Canadian/US joint effort. Came with a very nice gig bag. I guess when I look at a guitar's "features," I don't necessarily consider more to be better. This is not one of those guitars you have to "get used to"; it's a simple, straightforward electric guitar that will feel immediately familiar to almost anyone.

Sound : 9
If you like P 90s, you will like the way this guitar sounds. I'd even venture to say that these P-90s are better than most, except perhaps for some hand-wound Lindy Fralin boutique numbers. They have tons of volume, lots of grit, but are quite capable of nice sparkling cleans. A little hummy like any single-coil, but the tone more than compensates. Classic rock never sounded so authentic.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Nice finish, well-adjusted neck, good action. Frets are perfect. I tweaked the truss rod a little, but ended up going back to the factory spec. Mine came with 9s even though it's spec'd with 10s. With the 10s, a little relief in the neck and a slightly lowered bridge, it feels great. The neck is "Gibson scale" but sort of "Fender shape," and it plays fast. The neck joins the body on the bass side at about the 15th fret and it's a bolt-on neck, so I was sure that the upper register of the fretboard was going to be tough to access, but it's really no different than a Les Paul or any single-cut body. Nice belly countour on the back. String-through body and a recessed bridge give it a very smooth-feeling top. A very comfortable guitar, but it's really heavy. Tusq nut is cut tight, Gotoh tuners (Godin branded) do the 18:1 trick. No complaints.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Seems about as tough as a Telecaster; can't imagine this having durability problems. With a T-O-M bridge, string-through-body, one vol/one tone knob, and a three-way switch, it's about as idiot-proof as they come.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No clue here.

Overall Rating : 10
I love Telecasters and I love Les Paul Juniors/Specials. This truly is the best of both worlds.
been playing for 30 years, and this was a really pleasant surprise. I'd say it's an unbelievable value, given the price, quality and the country of origin.

After owning it for a couple of weeks, I was cleaning the guitar when I noticed that there was a gap between the fretboard and the neck. Also, the neck has a slightly irregular shape to it -- a small bulge on the treble side right at the top of the neck cavity. I could actually slip a dollar bill in the gap and it went through to at least the middle of the neck and all slide it all the way to the end of the 22nd fret. It was pretty subtle, or I'm sure I would have noticed it at the shop, or else it had gotten worse since I brought it home. Anyway, I was a little disheartened that my brand new guitar that I had already become attached to wasn't right ...

So... I took it back to the shop where I bought it, they sent it right off to Godin, and three weeks later it's back, with a brand-new neck installed, and set up to the same specs I had it adjusted to when I returned it. Same action, same neck relief, same bridge height.

While I was waiting, I looked probably a dozen other Godins around town, and they all looked fine. So I guess I got the one that slipped past QC, but no worries. Godin took great care of me, very quickly, and to my 100% satisfaction.

Overall Rating : 10
I guess the moral of the story is this: while I have had excellent dealings with internet mail order music stores, in this situation it was certainly reassuring to be dealing face-to-face with the guys that sold me the guitar. They were concerned, apologetic, stood behind the product, dealt with the manufacturer quickly and directly, and gave me updates on the status of the warranty claim.

The LG P90 remains my favorite guitar. Buy with confidence, and know that Godin honors their warranty with no hassle and with no questions asked. And support your local shop!

2002 model, but I am not sure. 24 fret bolt on mahogany neck, rosewood board, mahogany body, 2 (fantastic) Seymour Duncan P90s, 3 way selector. I also give it a 10 because it is simple and does what it was made for - good all around rock blues guitar at a low price but sounds and feels like a guitar much more expensive...

Sound : 10
I think it produces a pure bitey but rounded tone. It is not to sharp - the sound has body to it. This guitar also has excellent susutain - maybe due to the strings that go into the body. I used it on track 10 on my first CD. If you want to hear it for yourself go to CDbaby.com and look up "First Solo Flight" that's the name of the CD or look up my name, Felix Marin jr. You will be able to hear it on line - it is track number 10 called "Kisser".

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Action is really good - it is low and comfortable to hold. The finish is okay - this is probably where the guitar is weakest - it looks good but not great. I guess you can not expect everything for the price...

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is solid - think it will last a hundred years if it is taken care of...

2006, made in USA with Canadian parts. 22 frets, mahogany body and bolt-on neck, rosewood fretboard. 2 Seymore Duncan P90s, volume, tone, 3-wat switch. Trans red finish with clearcoat, recessed Tune-o-matic bridge, string-through body. 24 3/4 (Gibson) scale, with meaty but not huge neck, at least compared to my Tele. Came with a very nice gig bag. As many features as I'll ever need. The simple set-up is one reason I liked it.

Sound : 9
The Duncan P-90s are smokin'. This thing is a lot like a Les Paul Special/Junior, with its all-mahogany build and the pickups, so it delivers that sort of sound. Clean, the pickups have plenty of sparkle, but never that piercing treble of the Telecaster. Cranked and driven, they are, in my opinion, the best rock & roll pickup ever made. Meaty and crunchy, but with plenty of pick articulation. I can't decide which I like better, the neck or the bridge; both excel in their op=wn ways. As single coils they're a little noisy, but that's a concession I'll gladly make to get this tone. My only criticism is that the tone control does very little in the first 3/4 of its range. It seems that most of the differentiation occurs just before it's all the way down. Maybe the top half of the range is just too subtle for me to hear.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Really top-notch build quality, especially compared to the Les Paul faded double cut P90 I was comparing this to. The transparent red is classic, and it allows thegrain tro really shine through. Nice clearcoat, excellent and clean routing of the recessed bridge, pickup cavities, and string-through slots. Came with strap lock buttons installed. Nut is straight and nicel;y cut. Frets are even and finished on the ends. All I did was tweak the truss a quarter turn to take some of the relief out of it, and it plays like a dream. The neck has a satin finish on it, which I really like better than a full gloss. It feels dry and smooth in my hand. Played with the action a bit, but after getting the neck straight, I returned it to the factory set up. It's about 2/32 on the bass side at the 12th fret, and less than that on the treble side. The neck/body interface is tighter than the lugnuts on a '52 pickup, and the cutaway on the back makes it very comfortable. It's pretty heavy, but I like the solid feel that the weight gives it.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I'd play this guitar without a backup without hesitation. Seems utterly solid and stout. You could fight your way out of a major brawl with this thing!

Been playing 35 years. I own a Martin and a Guild acoustic, a fretless bass, and until last week, a US Telecaster that this guitar is replacing. I chose this guitar because I wanted the P90 thing, I wanted a US-made guitar, and I wanted to spend less than a grand. That pretty much narrowed it down to Gibson, and the Les Paul DC faded that I played was such an utter embarrassment to the heritage of Gibson that I almost had to laugh. By comparison, the Godin was everything that guitar wanted to be, except it wasn't as butt-ugly and it cost $200 less. The LGP90 is one of those "best kept secrets" that truly defy the expectations one has for sub-$1000 guitars. I honestly can't find any reason why this guitar is as inexpensive as it is. It has name-brand pickups, time-tested materials, USA construction, solid craftsmanship, and tone for days. I feel like I won the lottery.

Bolt on chunky mahogany neck (looks like a 2 piece - not like the 'old' godins, and mahogany body (think i read 3 peice, but i have the black pearl finish so not sure)

Dual Seymour Duncan HIGH OUTPUT P90 pickups - very different to other SD P90s i have bought since (and by FAR the best)

Nice brass tuneomatic bridge, with through body stringing - my favorite.

I would say the only place this guitar (my one) lets itself down, is the tuners arn't all great at holding pitch. I have pretty wild vibrato, but even when i hold back. the 3rd plain string seems to stick in the nut, or the machinehead will not hold. Locking tuners would not come on a guitar with everything else godin provided for the list price.

Godin are the best company IMO for working to a list price, and spending the money in the guitar where it should be spent first.

Oh, and it came with a gig bag, that i would expect to pay at least #40 for in the shops. Well padded, but light colour means it looks dirty now, and not shower proof.

Sound : 10
Best sounding guitar i own of its type. I loved it so much, i bought a maple capped chambered washburn custom shop loaded with duncan p90s. Obviously we would all think it would be a better guitar right?

Wrong.

Although the washburn rings out louder acoustically (due to the hollow sections) amped up, the godin has a much more focused sound. Much rounder and earthier. WAY more aggressive in the bridge - my fave rock tone from any guitar out of my dozen or so. Silky smooth, great reaching upper harmonics at the neck pickup.

Part of this is to do with it being all mahogany, and without the hollow sections and maple cap, but a chunk is due to the different winding of these pups (wish i could buy another set but they were made specially for godin so i am led to believe)

In comparison, the similarly specced washburn sounds sloppy when my picking gets up to speed, useless in the bridge, and just not as nice in the neck.

It truly deserves a ten. The only other guitars i now use for tonal variations are an (IMO) even better playing Godin Radiator and EMG SA loaded fender jap strat. The rest seem pretty redundant at the moment, although i am hoping to change that.

Slight consideration - p90s are noisier (background noise - humming)than the equivelant humbucker, and pick up more interference (pc and tv). Not as much as people might want you to think, but certainly noticeable.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Came set up pretty well out of the box. Intonation spot on, set for d'addario EXL 9s. Action a little higher than i would have set, but this took me all of 5 minutes to correct.

The black paint was absolutely flawless, and looks stunning.

The clay dot markers were a bit scruffy, but i want a guitar to play, not to stand up to close cosmetic scruteny.

Main thing i want - and godin excell in; Setting a neck into a body with a bit of care and attention. Really nice tight fit into the neck pocket, well angled. Frets all even, and nicely finished off at the edges. Thats the main thing I want fit and finish wise.

GReat little rosewood truss rod cover - nice touch godin.

Reliability/Durability : 10
totally reliable, as every fixed bridge guitar i have ever owned is. The black coating on the brass looks as it did on day 1 (a year later). The paint looks similarly excellent.

This is a heavy guitar, which could stand a real beating if you wanted to give it one. I think i like it so much, i treat it with a bit of respect - i love it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
local shop said my one tuner was not deffective (i think it is) but that should have been a problem sorted at the dealer, and i don't blame the company for the issue - it only arises after a few weeks of playing.

In an email to the company (about a non related inquiry), i got a kind reply less than 48 hours later from i think possibly from a Godin family member. They couldnt help me with my problem (uni project) but i wasn't holding out much hope and they were very nice about it.

Overall Rating : 10
i bought this at WAY under list price, because i loved my old godin radiator so much. That guitar was at the time the cheapest godin made, and this one, IMO is the top of the performance series in terms of features.

Its not way better than the radiator in my hands or through my amp, but it is very different and more useable for heavier rock tones. So just different - probably more versatile to be honest (more than any guitar i have ever owned)

Its the guitar that sits closest to my amp (laney vc50 combo) and is the one i reach for 95% of the time, even though i have alot of good guitars to choose from.

I would easily (if i could afford it) shell out #450 -500 for this kind of guitar, new in a shop enviroment. Your only comparible type guitars are the PRS soapbar SE and some of the p90 tokai's. They cost this much, and i don't think they are anywhere near as good a package.

absolute 10

Simple- tone, volume for electronics, solid mahogany body w/ mohagany neck. Seymour Duncan P90's. This particular guitar was extremly lightweight compared to all the other solid mahogany guitars on the floor and what I've tried elsewhere(Godin or Gibson). Lot's of resonance.

I'm basically an blues/r&b/rock/whatever pays at the gig player. This is a versatile well put together instrument w/ monster P-90 tone. I'm running this axe through a 1980 Mesa MKII w/ Weber 12" ceramic blue dog & THD Yellowjacket EL84 converters and I'm using a Teese wah and sometimes an overdrive pedal. Lot's of sustain from the guitar. As much variety as you can muster from a two pup guitar. Much better than the way over-priced LP Special reissue.

Right off the floor this guitar was set up very well. Proper action w/ no buzzing. Clean fret work and smooth feeling neck.

Well described already - 2003 model, 24 fret bolt on mahogany neck, rosewood board, mahogany body, Shaller straplocks, 2 (fantastic) Seymour Duncan P90s, one tone, one volume, 3 way selector. Came with a neat Godin gig bag. Giving it a 10, not because it has tons of features but because it has all you need!

Over the years I have had dozens of guitars and have always been a bit of a guitar snob - if it wasn't Gibson or Fender then it wasn't worth a damn. This is the first time that I have bought a guitar on the recommendation of a review (several actually!). Through my little Line 6 practice amp at home and my Hughes and Kettner 100w combo for gigs and general noisemaking, the LG delivers. One of the sweetest sounding instruments I have ever played. So much so that I thought I'd post this review - the first time I have been moved to do so. I guarantee anyone trying out one of these will be blown away by the sound and the feel. Really good for bluesy stuff and 70's rock. More controllable than a Les Paul (not muddy sounding the way LPs can get on the neck pickup) and more beefy than a Strat or a Tele. Obviously when cranked up, the P90s are a bit noisy as they are single coils, but it is no worse than a Strat.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Bought it new (well I think that it had been hanging on the wall of the guitar store for a couple of years) and apart from a slight tweak to the truss rod, it was perfect. Nice low action. The fit and finish are really good and worthy of guitars costing much, much more. In the last 12 months I have had 4 Gibsons (an SG Standard, Les Paul Classic, Les Paul Custom and Firebird V - everything bar the custom has gone to a better home) and can say that none of them matched the LG for quality. I reckon the neck on the LG is among the best I have played - Gibson-like feel but none of the 'sticky lacquer' problems that afflicted the LP Classic and Firebird especially - at least in my hands.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Looks like it will last and, more importantly, looks like one that I will keep!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them though from all I have read about them they seem to be very customer-friendly.

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing 27 years. Presently have a Les Paul Custom, Fender Strat US 62 reissue, G&L Legacy, Fender Telecaster Plus, Tokai Telcaster and a Taylor 422 acoustic. Have owned many, many more!!! Got to say that the two cheapest electrics that I have (the Godin and the Tokai) are among the best!
If it were stolen I would definitely buy another - especially if I could pick it up for what I paid for this one. Godin are criminally underrated here in the UK and deserve more success - at least this means that you may be able to get one well discounted. So before you blindly go and buy that LP Studio or Strat, check one of these out. You won't regret it.

I don't understand a couple of low marks for features. For a guitar in this price range and style is has a lot of unique features. The recessed (for lack of the right term) bridge seems to really add to the action, sustain and tone. The mahogony neck and it's finish is beautiful. As is the fretboard.

I personally think they should have added individual tone and volume knobs for each pickup (for of like the Squire Custom II), but other similar guitar from other companies have pretty much the same setup so I can't really label it as a 'missing feature'.

The only thing I dislike is it's a very heavy guitar. It's heavier then my 81 Dean Elite which I thought was impossible. But all of this also lends to the sound.

Sound : 10
I was looking for a P-90 equipped guitar and I had actually never even heard of this model of Godin. I tried it out along with a PRS Soapbar, an Epiphone, and a Squire Custom II. This guitar had similar tones, but the quality of the construction was miles above the other models tried. The comination of woods and design features gave it a bit of a unique sound as well.

I learned shopping for P-90 guitars for my first time that P-90's are noisey. Espcially with gain. But nothing sounds quite as cool to my ears. And the P-90's in this guitar are quality Seymore Duncans.

You are looking for a specific tone buying a guitar like this, so if you dislike the tone, then you bought the wrong guitar in the first place.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
My experience from other reviewers differs regarding setup. Mine was set up beautifully right off the floor. The action is perfect. As mentioned several times the construction is top notch and I have not seen a flaw in the neck or body. I have picked up guitars 'out of the box' that cost way more money and have been set up horribly straight from the factory.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Again, oustanding construction quality. Time will tell how the electronics hold up, but right now everything seems great with the guitar. It comes with quality strap locks, so that is not a concern. The finish is beautiful and seems very durable. The only thing I could see going wrong with the guitar is the electronics but again only time will tell with that.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No experience yet.

I own a 1981 Dean E'Lite Deluxe, a Japanese Fender 52 RI Tele, a MIM Strat (92) and I play them all through a Traynor YVC50. I obviously have the guitars to cover a wide variety of styles, but there is nothing that sounds like P-90's and that is how I found this guitar.

It has an incredible feature set, and amazing construction quality for a guitar in this price range.

it's hard to compare it to other guitars because again is has a pretty unique design. Tone wise it can be compared to other solid body P-90 equipped guitar.

Overall I think the guitar falls into the 'hidden gem' category. Right along with another Canadian manufacturer, Traynor (Yorkville sound). Go Canada.

The pick-ups make this guitar .. gen-you-wine Seymour Duncans. Actually, when you add up the cost of the pick-ups, the rather awesome gig-bag this guitar comes in and little things like the locking strap buttons, this guitar is a bargain.

Anyhoo, sounds great .. quite mid-rangey and VERY loud. The pick-ups are a little noisy but they are single coils after all. I bought this as a back-up to my PRS guitars .. this is a very different sounding guitar but it definitely holds it's own.

Play it through a mildy overdriven tube amp and this guitar gives superb blues tones. Try it through a Boogie on full tilt and it sounds wonderful .. just keep an eye on the noise when you're not playing.

This gets an 7. My PRS Singlecut Artist only got a 9 .. and that's the finest guitar I have ever played. Is it just me or do the majority of people put 10 for this category, even when they are patently reviewing an average, or even down-right poor guitar? I know everyone is entitled to their own opinions but ... The day a true 10 guitar is built I will sell my house, buy THAT guitar and go live on an island somewhere. So there!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 3
Had to replace the volume pot on day two, the tone pot now needs doing as well, the pick-ups were too high and snagged on the strings, the action was too low and was fretting out anywhere past the twelfth fret .. in short, assembled by a drunk Gibbon working it's notice.

None of this is a disaster and all points were or are about to be rectified simply, but should you have to, even on a relatively cheap guitar like this?

Reliability/Durability : 6
See above ... it is well built with very little to go wrong once the initial problems are sorted. It is a back-up guitar anyway so not too worried about taking it to gigs.

But hey, when all's said and done, at least it's not a G*bson!!!

Customer Support : 7
Sent an e-mail r.e the problems above, got a reply within 24 hours. Not too shabby. PRS take a month...

Overall Rating : 7
I think this a reasonable guitar for a reasonable amount of money. It sounds like it cost more and it plays like it cost more, which is all that really matters at the end of the day.

The gig-bag is fantastic, the pick-ups are wonderfull, the construction isn't too bad for a fairly low cost guitar. Definitely a better bet than the equivalent from G*bson.

Bought new last week, I believe that this is a 2003 model LG-SP90 as it's in a fantastic dark-gold metallic colour, that is no longer part of the current Godin LG line-up. It's made from Canadian parts and assembled in USA.
Solid mahogany body, with beautiful mahogany neck and rosewood fretboard. 24 3/4 scale.
Simple controls - volume pot, tone pot, and 3-way pick-up selector. Pickups are two Seymour Duncan P90s (fantastic sound!)
Machineheads of Godin's own (and good enough) non-locking variety.
Schaller Tune-O-matic bridge with strings through body configuration.
Guitar came with high-quality, multi-pocketed and well-padded Godin gig bag. In summary, an incredibly well made axe for the money. The PUPs would probably have cost me more than #150 to buy on their own!

Sound : 10
I'm a relative novice, having only started learning to play around one year ago. However, I'm exposed to a lot of guitars and associated kit, as I sing with a semi-pro rock covers band. I play a range of music from blues to classic rock and rock"n"roll, and the LG suits well enough. I also have another Godin Guitar - the SD, with SSH pickup configuration. The SD is a great guitar for the money ( I only paid #225 for it) however the Seymour Duncans on this LG really rock. The clean sound is fantastically smooth (and loud if you want it), and the dirty sound, whilst not as raucous as the humbucker on the SD, is very special. It's a great blues / rock-blues machine!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The guitar seems to have been very well set-up. Not sure if this took place at the factoryl or if the boys at GuitarStore in Southampton did it. Either way, no complaints. PUPs seem to be adjusted OK, although I'm no expert.
All in all the finish on the guitar is superb for the money. Everything fits as it should. One small flaw however, is a bit of missing lacquer (about 1cm long) off the top edge of the fretboard by the nut. All the hardware is of good-quality, and is robust. The ergonomics on this axe are great, with recessed bridge and pick-ups, there's nothing to get in the way of axe-antics.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Having used my Godin SD for more than a year, and seeing taking into consideration the high quality of the hardware and general build of this guitar, I see no reason to worry about using this axe live. The Schaller locking strap buttons are a great inclusion on all Godin guitars. The finish on this guitar (in common with my other) is very good, and seems like it will stand the test of time well.
GOOD WORK FRENCH-CANADIAN GUITAR DUDES! VIVE LA GODIN!

Not really had to deal with Godin. Although I did send them an email when I was trying to source a hard-case for my SD - they responded within a couple of days.

The shop where I bought the LG is long-established, and fairly local to me, so I envisage no problems. They offered to do another set-up on the guitar for free if I ever needed it. The dealer is also offering a one year warranty.

Was originally looking for a dual HMB guitar, and was considering buying an MIJ Tokai Les Paul. Saw this in the shop, tried it out and fell in love with it's build-quality, sound and simplicity. It looks great, sounds great, and should last for many years. I was very, very happy with my first Godin (the SD), and am even happier with this one. I got the guitar for almost half list price. But even at full price, the GODIN axes represent stunning value for money. If you're looking to spend #500 or less on a guitar, buy a Godin. If you're considering spending more on a Gibbo LP Studio or Melody Maker or whatever, you should also consider a GODIN and save yourself some cash.

This is an earlier model, maybe around 2000?

This guitar was the result of my first craving for a p-90 guitar, so this is my first experience, but I'll tell you this - the craving is satisfied! This thing sounds incredible. I plug into my little Princeton/Deluxe Rev clone and crank up the volume and just play for hours! Lotsa distortion sounds I never could achieve are easy as pie with this guitar.
I thought the guitar was a muddy dog when I first got it, but changed out the 250k volume pot to 500k (the tone pot was already 500k - factory or mod??). That change was an excellent move.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Bought this guitar used, so my rating is what I see plus what I think it was originally.
We got off to a rough start, this guitar and me. I bought it second-hand on ebay. Paid the "Buy-it-Now" price after the seller assured me the frets and action were good.
Got the guitar and three frets were popped, the strings were 11s and the action was set to nearly a half inch above the fret board to keep it from buzzing. I was upset. I don't believe this is typical for these guitars. The guy probably stored it next to a heater vent or something. Anyway, Phil Jacoby in Baltimore replaced or reseated the popped frets and did a level and polish and new nut and the guitar played great.
Only problem was that it refused to stay in tune.
I figured that the strings coming through the body as they do, actually cutting into the body wood, might be the reason the guitar couldn't handle my string bends.
I wanted to sell it, but I'm the honest type and if I told folks it wouldn't stay in tune I would have lost my butt on the sale.
I have plenty of guitars, so I mostly ignored this one for about a year. A couple of months ago I got a craving for that sound again and pulled out the Godin. It was impossible for me to wail on it because of the tuning problem and was driving me crazy, so I e-mailed Godin's tech support and a fella named Michel promptly responded, suggesting that I install some good locking tuners. Thank you, Michel. A set of Sperzels was all it needed.
One problem (?) I see is that a couple of the strings roll over the frame of the tune-a-matic bridge before getting to the bridge saddles. It doesn't seem to hurt anything, but it doesn't seem quite right. I'm thinking of trying to find some of the taller type saddles to put in there. But can I find them in black? I dunno.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This is a well built axe. This isn't the kind of guitar (IMHO) that one plays an entire gig with (unless you're maybe a Who tribute band), but I'm sure it's reliable enough to use without a backup.

Customer Support : 10
See the Action, Fit & Finish section above. No BS to try and protect the company reputation - just told me to get new tuning machines.

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing too many years and have five distinctly different and excellent guitars (including this Godin). Of all my guitars, this one gets the most comments on its good looks (the black semi-hollow Ibanez Talman is second place).
With the new pots, fretwork and tuning machines, I guess I paid a total of around $525 for this guitar (case included). This is more guitar than $525 - I feel like I stole it at that price!

Made in 2003. Parts from Canada and assembled in USA. 24 frets. 24.75" scale. 3-piece mahogany painted a bright solid gold (lots of red in the gold) color. Two Duncan SP90 pickups, 3-way switch, tune-o-matic bridge with string through design. Styled somewhat like a Les Paul.

Came with hard case with does not exactly fit the guitar shape properly. A little loose on one side and tight on the other.

Godin, why didn't you put gold tuners on this guitar to match the paint? For that matter, why didn't you use gold locking tuners? I installed Schaller mini locking tuners.

The pups are very noisy (nature of the single coil beast) and Godin should have applied at least 3 coats of shielding paint and should have shielded the control cavity cover. Like most guitar manufacturers they cut corners here.

I would have liked a gold colored bridge but that is just personal opinion and I won't knock them for having it black. I would have also liked gold colored knobs to match the paint. I replaced the two knobs with custom abalone topped gold knurled dome buttons.

I am not a fan of painted mahogany but I liked the guitar finish nevertheless. Everyone does love the color.

Sound : 10
I LOVE these pups except that they are too damn noisy on high gain settings. I tend to like most Seymour Duncans in general.

I play it through a PODxt, a miced-up 1 watt homebuilt tube amp and Tonelab into a Bose PAS system. I play classic rok and Blues through this guitar. With the mahogany and string through design the sustain and tone on this guitar is awesome. I may experiment with different capacitors and I plan on adding a Tonepros TP6 gold bridge in the future.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I bought from a local dealer and he tweaked the truss rod and action to my settings. I usually like 0.080 on the bass E side at the 12th fret and 0.070 on the treble side.

The main reason I bought this guitar was due to the 24.75" scale and neck profile. It matches my 1968 Univox Les Paul copy almost perfectly. I have small hands and short fingers and it fits me perfectly. The neck is very straight and needs very little relief. The fret work is excellent.

The pups were set way too high from the factory. On the base E side it is almost flush with the body and 1/8" higher on the treble side.

One knob fell off because a set screw was loose.

The neck was sticky most of last Summer due to what I believe to be the nitro curing out. Rather than hit it with 0000 steel wool I just waited for it to cure. It has and this winter it is very smooth.

The nut was cut a hair too tight and was causing tuning squeaking on the G & B strings.

Overall the guitar was very well made for its price range.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Based on the design of this guitar it will last a LONG time. The finish is very durable and adheres well to the mahogany. It will resist chipping.

Customer Support : 9
I've emailed Godin twice and they answered back with answers to my questions with 48 hours.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been noodling for about a year with 1 hour/week lessons given by a 40 year pro. I own and play a Warmoth short scale strat, Godin LGX3 and 1968 Univox Les Paul.

If lost or stolen I would probably replace.

Most of the details have been covered earlier. One of the features I think makes a big contribution to the instrument is the string through design with tune-o-matic. The guitar is very resonant and alive. There's not a lot of frills on this guitar, it was designed 100% with function in mind. However, there isn't anything I'd add either. The one thing I would change is to make one of the pickups RW/RP so it'd be humbucking in the two pickup position.

Sound : 9
Great, great sound. The bolt on neck, and string-though tailpiece add a bit more snap to the sound than compared to a Les Paul Special. Even though this is the 24 fret model, the neck pickup sounds fine. It should be noted that a regular single cut LP Special doesn't have the neck pickup jammed up against the end of the fingerboard either, so it's pretty much in the same spot.

Stock the sound was pretty good. However, changing the volume and tone pots to 500Kohm awoke the giant. It added some aggressive edge to the sound, made it more rock and roll. It was a bit more laid back jazzy before. Because it needed the mod, I give it a 9.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
I'm not ranking this, as mine is a factory second. However, I will note where the flaws are. The nut fit is a little flaky on the sides of the neck, but it's well cut. The slots where the strings come through the body are a bit rough. There's a drip on the gold metalflake paint.

However, the fretwork and setup on this instrument were immaculate. It was set up as good any any guitar I've played.

Reliability/Durability : 10
The guitar is rock solid. I've gigged with it several times. While an inexpensive guitar, nothing was done cheaply.

Customer Support : 10
I had a question about the guitar, and it was answered promptly.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing acoustic and electric for over two decades. With this guitar and a Strat, I cover 90% of the tones I want...OK, I need a Tele and a Gretsch. If it was stolen or broken (how could I lose it?), I'm pretty sure I'd buy another just like it.

This is an update from my review on 11-22-2002. I just installed the Tone Pros TP6 bridge on my SP90 and it sounds great. Even unplugged you can hear the difference. Very lively - more resonant. And thru my Dr Z Maz38 - Sonic Heaven. With the money you save by buying this guitar over other P90 models (Fender, Gibson) this is an easy addition and costs about 70 bucks.

Sound : 9
Yes, the new amp makes a world of difference too, but as I said, you can hear the difference as soon as you play your first chord with the amp on standby.

this is an update to my original review about a year ago (09/29/2003).
you all know the scoop by now. mine is a 2003 24 fret model.
one year later it still has all the features i need. no more no less. it is my "go to" guitar. it never lets me down. a real keeper.
i will not give points because i have allready done that.

Sound : No Opinion
suits me to a T.
still using the same dg100 and midiwizard.
lots of variety. amazing tone and versatility.
wow. love it.

good setup, my local dealer does thier own setups so i can't say anything about Godin there, other than they know how to build a great instrument.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
as reliable as hell. lasting great. i have noticed that my hands have polished the satin finish in places to a shine. i may get a buffer out and polish the whole guitar up to give it a gloss finish.

the company is great to deal with. my lg was missing a truss rod cover. the store gave me a deal. i emailed Godin and asked if they sold the cover separate, they asked for my address and sent me a new one for free. it is made of rosewood, screw included. they always respond to my emails and i have tons fo faith in them. bravo Godin.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
playing for 20 plus years.
yes , will you adopt me?
if it were stolen i would buy another for sure.
i love everthing about it, dislike nothing.
i compared it to many guitars and there is always something lacking in the others. this guitar is my voice now. i chose this because it is 100% guitar and 0% marketing crap.
i wish it had the locking tuners off the solidac, mainly for string changing ease.
i would like to share my praise of the Godin guitar line and how freaking awesome p90 pickups are. do try a p90 guitar people! this pickup setup is fantastic.
one more thing, i have owned way too many guitars and it is a joke (to my friends) how often i trade the latest and newest guitars for another one. this has gone on for a long time. i have always searched for a guitar that could be THE guitar that i would use above all others. i don't want one of everthing. i just want one awesome, playable, versatile and tonefull guitar. i pretty well gave up on that ever happening.. until i played my LG sp90. i can now say i have a guitar that will never leave my possesion.
and the fact that it didn't cost me tons of money from a custom shop is the most incredible thing of all.
well over a year and still "honeymooning" with the LG.

2003 model LG P90, with the Black Pearl finish. (I also have had one with the translucent red). Its a solid guitar all the way through, and has a very simple setup of a 3 way switch, master volume, master tone. The pickups are P90's from Seymour Duncan.

The body and neck are made from solid Mahogany, while the fretboard is rosewood. The frets are of standard size, and the neck is bolted. The tuners are Godin's own (as far as I know) and the nut appears to be made of bone.

One thing that I have not seen too many people mention is the fact that this guitar comes equiped with locking strap ends. Sure you don't get the strap screws, but any Schaller lock strap screws will lock onto this guitar with ease! (The same locks on the Fender Deluxe series) A very cool addition!

The truss rod adjustment is also placed behind a cover in the headstock (re: gibson). While this makes adjustments and setup much easier, it does pose one problem: a weaker neck design. One good hit, fall, or what have you and that headstock will pop right off (it's happened to one of my SG's, and a friends LGP90 so I now take more care) This is where the strap locks can save your ass.

The bridge is a recesed into the body and is a tune-o-matic style (perferd by myself) while the body is strung through, giving the guitar beautiful attack and sustain!

Finally, the included 'deluxe' gig bag destroys any other gig bag (Besides the warwick rock bags), and seeing as how your getting a $200 bag for pretty much free...who can comlain! (the bag has almost as many features and pockets as a backpack, and includes a nice neck brace/pillow)

Sound : 10
I'm used to playing a variety of Epiphone/Gibson SG's, as well as Fender Telecaster Custom (H/H), and my main guitar an 1999 Epiphone ES-335 (outfited with Gibson Electronics and grover hardware) so I'm used to fatter tone from the humbuckers. I have tried many single coil equiped guitars, from the SG Pete Townsend model, to Telecasters, and to strats. Personally I dislike strats so that battle was lost quickly, the telecasters were too twangy, and I personally think they are just drop dead ugly. The Pete Townsend SG just was way too noisy, and didn't have the single coil agressiveness I wanted (it almost had a humbucker growl.)

A friend of mine plays a p90 LG so I decided to try one out for myself.

Pluged into a Mesa Boogie Dual Rec with a 212 cab loaded with G12 Century Celestions, the guitar had a very agressive tone, that made the notes just jump off my figners! The bridge pickup was perfect for some hard rock lead lines with the tone turned up, and with the tone down it provided great chord work. The neck pickup proved equaly versatile by giving off smooth, surypy tones that just brought the guitar alive. I have never been more impressed with a guitar worth $600.

I then plugged into my old Fender 80's redknob twin, and was just floored at how well this guitar sounds through this monstrosity (the 80' redknobs were known for constant breakdowns).

But the true gold of this guitar is realized when plugged into a Traynor YCV80Q. (how ironic, Godin's partner amp line sounds excelent with a Godin guitar...) This is the reason why Traynor and Godin are the underdogs of the guitar communities. Their affordable, and when paired, nothing sounds finer! The tones were just excelent, there was so much I could do with this guitar, from small volume swells, to searing solos!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The off the shelf setup of this guitar was perfect. The action was lower than any other guitar in the shop, and with not buzz anywhere on the neck. I did my own tweaks for my playing style and custom string gauges (10-42 set, with a wound thrid) and hardly had to play with intonation or the truss rod.

The pickups were in their proper positions, giving equal output.

I checked over the finish, and found no flaws, not even a scratch even though the guitar has been in the store for about six months. Most other guitars that see the shelf that long at least have one belt buckle leave their mark..but none seem to be on this one.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Three months and no problems. It has seen many gigs and has never missed a beat. The finish still shows no sign of wear, and the rest of the guitar seems flawless. Even the rose wood neck is still undented (unlike some of my other guitars.)

If I didn't rely on my 335 for some of my songs, this guitar would always be on my shoulders.

Customer Support : 10
Long & McQuade pretty much offer all the customer support you need (hell as far as I'm concered they are the customer support for Godin). They can get you the answers to your questions quickly, if they don't know it themselves.

My friend once brought his in for a setup and pickup replacement, it was returned to him the next day.

The warrant is great, 1 year, includes all normal wear and tear (minus strings of course!)

Overall Rating : 10
After playing for ten years, and owning a dozen guitars. (2 Epiphone SG's modded diffrently, Epiphone ES335 heavily modded, 1 Gibson SG Special, Danelectro U2, Danelectro Hodad, Takamine LTD88, Takamine EG560C, Fender Tele Custom HH model, Vantage Avenger, 2 Godin LGP90, Gibson Les Paul Clasic) I can honestly say that this one goes with me everywhere.

Not only is it one of two of my main guitars, it is also my backup guitar when I'm on the road and space is a premium (otherwise I bring one of my Sg's) There would never be a trade in, and if it got lost or stolen, another one would be aquired quickly.

If there were one thing to change or add, it would be the addition of a phase tap. That or I would put a humbucker in the bridge and put in a 5 way switch. (Bridge-Bridge(taped)-bridge/neck-neck/bridge(tapped)-neck).

Compared to other guitars of this price range (or even double) it just wins! Who ever said Canadians can't craft anything were wrong! This guitar deserves every award it gets!

Originally when I bought this model I had no clue when it was manufactured, but as I learnt that Godin had reduced the LG's scale from 24 frets to 22 frets in late 2003, I'm assuming it's a 2003. The Godin company is located in my city, Montreal, in the small suburb of Baie d'Urfe. All the parts for this guitar are handcrafted in northern Quebec, and then sent to New Hampshire to be assembled. As I previously stated this is a 22 fret guitar, Gibson-esque scale. The entire guitar is composed of beautiful solid mahogany (except for the fretboard, which is rosewood), giving it some weight. However the combats the Les Paul's rib-bruising problem by having a countoured edge. The guitar is equipped with two fantastic Seymour Duncan P-90 Custom pickups. All this has been said before... just be aware that it's one heck of a well-made guitar. Comes with a free gig bag.

(note: The pickups aren't "'custom' Custom Custom", those are on the LGX, these are simply SP-90 Custom)

Sound : 10
I don't care what people say, this guitar can do anything. I prefer it for the blues and rock, but that's mainly because that's what I mostly play. However occationally when I just feel like goofing around I'll turn the gain up and the mids down on my amp and strum some powerchords, and the P-90s have no trouble in sounding fierce (keep in mind that the SP-90 Customs are the highest-output P-90 style pickups, and when I say P-90 style I mean that they still sound like P-90s)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar is beautiful. I can hardly count the number of pieces it's made from through the transparent red glossy paintjob. The grain looks fantastic. As for the playability, everything is recessed. There's a recessed Shaeller bridge, and there is no stopper; it's string-through-body design. Fantastic for finger-picking. The action is the best I've seen, and fully adjustable thanks to the bridge style.

I've had two minor problems with it thus far however: the pot for the volume knob became scratchy after a little more than a month (without heavy usage), however the store I bought it at fixed it immediately for me, and the output jack hex nut wasn't fastened on properly.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I'm not going to answer this question as I'm not a gigging musician, and I don't even own a strap (mind you the buttons are solid metal, and look like they can withstand the weight of the guitar)

Customer Support : 10
The guitar comes with a one year warranty, however the store I bought it from offered their own warranty, which I've already tested and was completely satisfied with. Godin has a website with an overloaded email server, but they did answer a question within a few days. godinguitars.com if you need it.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
No one's going to steal my ax, because I'll never let it out of my sight. Should anyone steal it, I'll buy another for sure, and then for sport I'll hunt down the loser who stole it. I compared this guitar to all sorts, from Les Pauls to Strats. The one thing that you absolutely cannot beat on this guitar is the action. It's a fantastic guitar.

this is to address the comments on the body material. these are indeed made of solid wood. i have the satin natural finish lgsp90. if i remove the back cover i see that Godin has routed the cavity in several passes, going deeper each time, one reveiwer has mistaken this "stepped" edge to the cavity as being layers of wood. these are not laminate guitars. so be informed that if you by a solid or natural finish Godin it will be solid wood.

Construction: The LG is a mahogany string thru body guitar with a mahogany neck and a 24.75" scale 24 fret rosewood fingerboard. The frets are somewhere between medium jumbo and vintage. It has what I imagine to be a holly veneer on the headstock similiar to an LP. The neck is bolted into the body and all paint is removed from the pocket allowing wood to wood fit. The joint is beveled to allow for better high fret access. This is NOT your dad's bolt on neck joint. This guitar was made in Canada and assembled in New Hampshire as I think all Godins are.

Hardware:Tuners are Godin brand probably 15:1 ratio they do fairly nicely. The bridge is a standard black tunamatic. the thumbwheels are recessed so you have to take of the strings to raise or lower the action, a pain if you ask me but hey it's actually for the musicians benefit so theat when you DO change strings you don't accidentally hit the thumbwheels. I wish tonepros would release a black bridge but such as it stands the one one it does a fine job. I wish it also had locking tuners with maybe a slightly higher ratio. It also has Schaller strap buttons on it so you can keep it extra solid.

Electronics: It has two SD P90 customs...not custom built but custom pups. The bridge is thick and warm and aggressive the neck might be a bit too hot for some but it also has a VERY warm sound in the mahogany these pups sell me on ducan ceramic magnets. The pups are very articulate and balance well. They are both piped into a singe 250k volume and tone of some make I don't know but I don't think CTS. Mine were scratchy and so I blew them out with canned air. I actually think that 500K would be a better choice I will probably replace mine and will tell you all how that goes. It has a three was slide switch in the same config as an LP but is probably not a switchcraft but I have had no problems from the switch.

I'm giving it a nine on features because I'm a Keep It Simple Stupid kind of guy. I do wish it had another volume and tone though.

Sound : 9
I'm using this guitar with a Dr. Z Maz Jr. with no effect except a Seymour Duncan Booster Pedal.
This is the most subjective part of my review some will agree or disagree. The guitar is lively...it sounds decent even unplugged and is loud enough to actually hear. It doesn't have the problems of a lot of LP's that it has to overcome it's weight. The tone can be smooth and full or on the neck pup and when you add OD it still sounds like good. The neck bridge combo gives you more sparkly single coil type sound than either pup alone. It makes a good crunchy rythym sound. The Bridge pup sounds very very VERY good. Lots of crunch and output it really cuts through the mix. Now here is the reason I think 500ks would be beneficial to me in this guitar. I use an amp with a tube rectifier and the bass is a little to flabby to me in the mahogany and it is my experience you can fix a good deal of it with 500ks. Some will probably argue it makes a harsh sound but I like having a brighter sound and toning it down. I've never had any real noise problems from this guitar even at high amp volume it's permissable.

This guitar takes the old LP jr sound to the next level and then gives it a shot of steroids and adrenaline. Some don't think that since it has 24 frets that neck pup can sound all that great but it does.To my ears it sounds better than MOST 22 fret guitar neck pups...I could still stand for it to be a little brighter.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
This is a gold lg with a metallic look to it. The neck has a satin finish and the headstock is black with black and chrome tuners to match the black hardware and pups. The only flaw is if you get it in really good light you can see a line of some sort in the paint on the bottom third but it is unnoticeable for the most part. Wish it had binding on the neck particularly

Action/playability Now THIS is where the godin shines. I don't know how long this one sat but the fingerboard was as dry as could be and already a month after its first real oiling it needs another. This didn't really affect the playability that much but the satin touch of a well oiled fingerboad is a thing I love. The neck is the fastest I've played and the fretwork is AMAZING! By that comment I mean the frets are trimmed to a T and beveled and everything perfectly and THAT in my opinion is the makings of a truly great guitar. It plays better than my US strat did out of the box and the frets 4 and a half years later on the strat still aren't quite as nice. The Tele is close with the rolled fingerboard edges but not quite there. The neck finish is some kind of satin finish and is a delight to play.

The playing is so great it covers for my finish issue.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I see no reason that this guitar shouldn't last. I just need to get a set of black schaller strap locks and it will be as stable as can be. I never gig without a backup because that is asking for trouble.

John at Atomic Guitar in Little Rock AR was the guy my dad bought it from he is now out of business but Saied Music in North Little Rock is also a dealer and a buddy of mine works there so I shouldn't have problems.

Overall Rating : 9
All and all this is a fantastic guitar I would replace if stolen or destroyed. For the money it is an UNBELIEVABLE guitar you have to play to believe. They are in stores around the $600 mark but you can get them for less. The 24 fret neck gives it an extra bit of charm for me that extra piece which gives me the whole two octave (per string) neck.

2002 gold-sparkle finish mahogany-esque*, single cut-away body; a pair of Duncan P90s, one volume, one tone, 3-way selector (no hum-cancelling in middle position); mahogany neck, 24-fret, 24.75" scale, 16" (!) radius. The pickups and bridge are recessed in the body (includes a "comfort contour" as well) and provide a comfortable playing experience.

*when I opened the control panel to modify the volume pot, I discovered that the body showed the tell-tale layers of a laminate. While it may be a mahogany laminate, it definately isn't a gold-sparkle version of the natural semi-gloss, say, that appears to be solid pieces of wood. I feel the manufacturer could be a little more forthcoming in this respect (and maybe all manufacturers do this) and perhaps price the different finishes accordingly (I noticed no difference among colors for the LG SP90s at two local dealers).

Sound : 9
I was looking for a Mahogany P90-loaded solildbody guitar to support how great my Epi Casino sounded through my (then) new TopHat Club Royale (think Vox AC15); and because of a couple of local guys' goldtop LPs with P90s. I tried out several Les Pauls (old and new/resissues), a Guild, a couple of PRS's, and even an old-gold LG, but this one sounded the best for what I wanted to hear (a little warmer than the other LG I tried). Since then I played a new Les Paul Special in the faded yellow series and a used Pete Townsend SG, each of which sounded a little better and the best, respectively.

Great sounds AND great sounds for the price. I upgraded the volume pot to 500K and added a cap+resistor mod I typically do on my Strats to keep that Vox-like sparkle happening when rolling it back. The tone control can get really furry, so I may need to swap out a cap in it as well.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The action is awsome and with such a flat radius the guitar is a joy to play. The neck is thicker than I'm generally used to (Parker Fly Deluxe, say), but traditionalists will likely appreciate this feature. The neck is deep-set into the body, contributing to the flatter surface profile with the recessed bridge and pickups: this makes too much sense!

The finish is definitely show-biz and, since I play a number of outdoor gigs, it really sparkles in the sun and under lights. I haven't noticed any other flaws in the wood work.

Since the knobs are Tele-style with set-screws, I have had the volume kob fall off a number of times.

I also replaced the tuning keys to heftier Grovers than whatever was stock: no modification needed and it took slightly longer than a typical string change to do.

Reliability/Durability : 8
With the Grover upgrade I haven't had any tuning issues at all; prior to that I would say my experience was similar to below. I have played it live a number of times and would have no reluctance to rely on it.

Came with Straplock style buttons that are really well connected. Since loading it with Ernie Ball's 10-52 set, I could play without a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 8
Been performing over 26 years, but only recently had the maturity to shop with my ears instead of my eyes (gold sparkle finish notwithstanding). I play through a couple of TopHat Club Royale amplifiers (sold my Marshall DSL 100w halfstack for the second one) and Kinman-loaded guitars (Mexican Strat Standard and parker Nite Fly) as well as the LG.

I would by this model again, but probably the clear, natural finish to be certain I didn't have something that compares to some cheap Squiers I've owned in the past. It can be a fantastic value, but caveat emptor on the body.

2003, made in usa from canadian parts. solid mahogany with rosewood board. 3 way switch for 2 seymour duncan sp90's. natural satin finish. one beautiful guitar that looks like it was made by mother nature. the features it has are the ones that are important. playability and tone as well as being one solid axe. do yourself a big favour and check out godin guitars. very beautiful gig bag included, no cheap bag but rather a durable and useful one!! i love it!

Sound : 10
it sounds wicked. i can get tele country , stevie ray neck tones , blues rock as well as heavy rock tones with this. it can be clean to crunchy with a roll of the volume. no screwing around with this . pure guitar. the p90's may lead some to think this cannot be a heavy rock axe but that is what your amp is for. high gain pickups are not my choice for heavy music anyway. i prefer paf or p90's for the clarity. i will probably try the tone pot resistor trick as mentioned in these reviews. mainly for the brightening of the tone. there is nothing wrong with the tone now but i am curious if i can get even better tone. i dislike nothing about this guitars tone. when i try out guitars i play unplugged for a bit before i plug in to hear the guitars tone. it rings like a well made accoustic! and is very balanced.and has amazing sustain! there can be noise from the p90's but nothing i can't handle.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
very well put together, smokes most guitars regardless of price. mucho hand work. i find the grain in the mahogany matches great(3 piece body) and if it didn't i wouldn't care. i want to play it not admire it. but when you see it you can't help but drool. the only "flaw" was a missing trusrod cover? my guess is the store lost it and played dumb. but i saved money because of it and will make my own anyway. godin scores highly in this category( action ,fit and finish). like i said this guitar looks like it is a product of mother nature it is so solid. solid mahogany, schaller hardware and seymour duncan pickups. not a cheap piece on this guitar. even has a metal jackmounting plate!

Reliability/Durability : 10
solid! as a rock. comes with schaller strap buttons which are for schaller strap locks. some people miss this. and think they are regular buttons and too small for safe use with a strap. i actually used my SDXT with a srap that didn't have the strap locks on and had no problems. if the holes in your strap are worn out and streched don't blame the guitar.duh.

Customer Support : 9
great support. i have emailed them several times. they are busy and don't have time to reply INSTANTLY but i appreciate the money i spend for my godin is for the guitar. look at big companies and see the price differences. you pay for the endorsers, big lawyers, ads, fancy websites etc. but do you get better quality of support?

Overall Rating : 10
playing 20 years, i own two yamaha electrics and yamaha DG100 that i control with a rfx midiwizard. if stolen i would definately buy again. i love everything about it. i tried several different guitars out and this was the one. strats, brian moores, and a real nice faded epi sg and a wolfgang were tried but they all had reasons they lost. this had the simplicity, solidness, tonal variety i needed. what i hate the most? what i hate is i am now wanting a LG signature or LGX. damn you godin i am now hooked. i want more GODINS. can't help the 10 in this category, but for the quality, tone, workmanship for this price is a "10" high enough?

There are already 25 postings for this guitar, so I will keep this brief. I was in the market for a mahogany guitar with P-90s and this
guitar was the clear winner based upon playability, price and tone.

I chose the cognac burst finish and it is indeed very beautiful. The back of the guitar is black in color. I play with an aggressive right hand and did not notice the tuning problems others have mentioned.

I had to intonate the third string as it was off by a few cents.
The body is made of 3 pieces of mahogany and mine has 3 different grains which turned out to be stunning. This is a very comfortable guitar; "no sore ribs from your Les Paul syndrome".

The neck is fabulous. A modified C shape which suits me well.
A very flat rosewood fingerboard provides a buzz free environment for
those who prefer a low string action. Left hand work is effortless and my legato and string skipping riffs can be played very quickly and with little strain.

This guitar has great acoustic tone. Lots of warmth, sustain and
harmonics when strumming or shredding.

I do not like the tuners. They are small and require a very light touch or you will be flat or sharp when making adjustments.
Once tuned, however, this guitar was very stable despite subjecting it to whole tone bends and hard strumming and picking.

Sound : 6
I play blues, jazz blues and rhythm changes. No effects. I use Polytone Mega-brute amps into Raezers edge and Marshall 1X12 cabs.

Like other single coil pickups, the P-90s are noisey when around computers or lights. P-90s are a great trade off between single coil
and humbuckers. The high end sizzle and strong mids are what I like about the Seymour Duncan wound pickups in this guitar.

As shipped, the tone control capacitor was a ceramic 0.033 microfarad
unit. I found the guitar was not bright enough for me. The mids were very strong and when playing the guitar unplugged you do not hear this. Acoustically, it has a well balanced tone, therefore, I felt the tone circuit was rolling off too many highs.
I changed the capacitor to a 0.01 microfarad unit and this guitar
is now the perfect combination of warmth and brightness.

I read elsewhere on this page about a guitarist who changed the 250K
pots to 500K pots. With all due respect, changing the capacitor is
much easier. I tried a 0.022, a 0.015 and finally a 0.01 microfarad cap.

The 0.01 gives me the classic P-90 sound, with lots of growl and bite.
It also sounds better through a distortion circuit; giving clearer seperation of notes and good raunch for the fifth-style chords that rock players love to use.

Another guitar I was considering was the Fender Toronado mahogany versions with P-90 style "black-dove" pickups. It was 2.4 times the price, had less sustain and a strat-style neck which paled by comparison.

I can't believe how expensive Fender guitars are now!

Overall this guitar has a unique tone that is very pleasing to the ear. I have a hard time putting it down! I like tone much more than a former Les Paul junior sold years ago. This guitar is alive and very, very musical sounding.

My ratings for sound are 8 with my mod and 6 without the mod.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Beautiful sanding and attention to detail. There was a 2 inch long ,fine scrape in the finish on the top side of the headstock, but it can't be seen by the audience and I just kept it.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Strap lock buttons are stock. Very solid. Good fret wire work.
I can't see it breaking apart.

You know the drill, made in Canada and assembled in the USA, 2002 Godin LG SP-90 in Cognac Burst. Beautiful high gloss finish, mahogany body and neck with a Rosewood fretboard. This guitar is beautiful to look at, and feels good when you pick it up. It's no feather either, lots of weight. 24 3/4" scale, 3-way selector switch, great Seymour Duncan SP-90 pups, string through body, Godin spec tuners, and a gig bag. I give the axe a 9 for what it doesn't have, just a simple straight forward guitar.

Sound : 9
This guitar does sound great. I play rock and blues, through a Fender Blues Jr. and with the SP90's humming along, and the extra tension from the string through body, the guitar sings. Play it clean and you get a nice jazzy sound with the neck pup, add a little drive and with the bridge pup it crunches and growls sweetly. Beautiful full sound. The pups are a little noisy, since they are single coils. I wouldn't say the 3-way selector gives you alot of versatility, but for straight ahead rock and blues, it's great. Darker than a Strat or Tele, but very cool nonetheless. The string through design really make the LG resonate amazingly well, probably the best I've ever experienced. The sustain with a little drive is awesome.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Out of the box the LG was set up nice, but I had the tech swap the stock strings for a set of D'Addario XL .10s which made a huge difference in feel and sound. I also raised the bridge pup up closer to the strings, and with some distortion it rocks. The guitar had no flaws whatsoever, one of the best I've seen.

Reliability/Durability : 8
The plastic tuners might not last forever if your gigging regularly, and probably a good idea to swap them in the future. The rest looks to be solid for the long run. One thing I did notice, and not only on this axe, but other LG's was that the guitar goes out of tune easily, especially since i bend alot. I don't know if it's because of the string through design or not, but what I did notice was that the strings come in contact with the wood, and there is no ferrule. Over time the strings may cut deeper into the wood, which would be a concern. It's weird because I also have an MIM Strat, that I put 5 springs into the trem, and it NEVER goes out of tune.

Customer Support : 9
I called and emailed Godin a few times, and was impressed with their timely replies, and they were very friendly.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
Overall, the LG SP-90 is a great guitar, and for the money a steal. You can't get the features, sound and quality of this guitar in any axe under $1000 Canadian. I would buy this guitar again for sure.

This is a 2002 model made in CANADA.It has a 24.75 scale fretboard which gives each string 2 full octaves of play.Solid mahogany throughout with a rosewood fretboard.A 3 way switch for two SEY/DUNC s/c pics.Telecaster vol and tone controls with semi set in tune-o-matic bridge set in body and strung through the body.Godin tuners with 15:1 ratio.neck 16" radius with medium frets.

Sound : 9
Very full sounding with lots of warmth and smoothness due to the use of all the mahogany.Played through a marshall JCM 900 100W DUAL REVERB COMBO(2 G12 75 celestions),ZOOM ULTA LEAD pedal,DUNLOP CRYBABY.This guitar will play most types of music with a lot of warmth and clearity, not a metal guitar at all, much too refined for that garbage. Not overlly bright due to the SP90's.The neck is just slightly thicker than I like but not as thick as PRS's or Gibson. The guitar is a pleasure to play and the controls are precise. The frets are easy to play on and the guitar is put together very well with great attention to detail.I bought the guitar because of its sound which is a noiseless version of a s/c and has a clear warmsound unique to itself,no jangly Strat sound here,if I want that I'd get it with the other Dunc s/c.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action sits nice and low and is very fast.Everything is fitted well and all routering is done precisely .There is a ton of hand work done on these guitars, the finish is flawless. The guitar is visually a work of art as are most of GODIN electrics.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is super solid ,doesn't mean you have to do a Pete Townsend on them to break them in .Top grade woods are used and the hardwareis solid and well made. The 3 way switch hasn't given me any problems but is a bit on the flimsy side .You'll need a guitar with HUMbuckers to fill out your sound if your style takes there otherwise the LG is more than adequate.

Customer Support : No Opinion
N/A no problems so far .

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing for a long long time and own a Godin SDXT(another beaut by the way),Seagull S6 Cedar,Ibanez GAX 70.I've owned Strats and Tele's and found them one dimensional in there sound .Gibsons and PRS's are way beyond my means and I don't get along with they're necks and weight so the Godins are a blessing and you cannot beat the QUALITY-PRICE RATIO thes guitars have. They're basically a steal.Once you solve the other part of the equation which is the proper amp for you then you have got your own little NIRVANA happening.I love the neck because it is fast and very comfortable to play and the people at GODIN spent alot of time and effort on this axe and I appreciate that. This guitar competes with those that are 3-4 tims he price.

it gets a 10 'cause i like em simple.

i play rock, blues, 60s 70s 80s 90s 00s and I write what today would be called altrock.
it sounded very good out a the box smooth w/great sustain and a lot of crunch w/the amp turned up. I play thru a fender blues junior w/no effects. I did wish for a bit more treble as I found that w/a full band i missed a little bite. So i changed the pots and switch to fender usa models (500k instead of the stock 250k). Huge difference, I recommend this upgrade to everyone. I turns a great sounding git to an awesome sounding git. The guitar drives the amp way better sounds fuller, warmer, and brighter all at the same time. It sounds like more frequencies and gain are getting thru to the amp. Do it, do it, do it. What a difference.

It's a cross between a LP Jr and a tele.

Features, Eh...? This is kind of a weird way to rank a guitar.. to me, 2 knobs and a switch is far, far better than 40 switches and knobs.. it is a spartan, no frills, players guitar. It sounds great, not just great for the money, but great.

What year was it made? 2002?
Where was is made? Canada-U.S.
How many frets? 24
Looks like 3 pieces of Mahogany
Controls: volume, tone, 3-way
Pickup configuration? 2x Duncan p90's
Finish: cherry red, like an lp jr
Body style: single cutaway allowed comfortable access to all 24 frets.
Bridge style: Tune-O-Matic + String-thru body
Neck: Mahogany
Scale: 24-3/4
Accessories: Case

Sound : 10
How does it suit your music style?: I play b-side classic rock and roots, so it fits great. Complements my teles. My favorite players use the guitar as a means to an end, the end being "creating good songs". The late Joe Strummer, Cobaine, Lennon, Jimi (yes, Jimi), Eldon Shamblin & Junior Barnard & Tiny Moore, Chuck Berry, T-Bone Walker, Albert King, Freddie King, Scotty, Luther, Django.. geez you GOT to have a wide palette!!! No locking whammys or pointy headstocks or 7 strings (unless you count George VanEpps [and maybe Uli Roth]) on the list.

Amps and effects: LG/Tele --> digitech whammy --> fulltone deja'vibe2 --> vox clyde wah wah --> fulltone '69 --> sometimes an echo or chorus --> fender hot rod deluxe or '64 bassman into a 212 cab

Is it noisy: yes, because it has single coil pickups

Rich/Full sound? Yes

What kind of sounds can the guitar make? How much variety? It does what it does very well.. you wouldn't buy this to get LP/tele/acoustic sounds in one package. Get the upscale LGX for that.

Likes and dislikes? everything/nothing

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
How well was the guitar set-up at the factory? I wouldn't know, but at Libertyville music it was in good shape. Grubby fingerprints from teenagers rubbed right off.

How was the action? Action is fine. Probably the same as every other production guitar at every music store in the country. Players get too hung up on action, microadjustments. I play it, it sings. "It's a poor workman who blames his tools" -- Jeff "Skunk" Baxter

Properly routed bridge? Yes, string line-up and intonation on target. But then, most guitars are made with computer controlled precision routers these days. The average quality level for most instruments is way up from when I was a tyke in the '70's.

Properly bookmatched top? Nah, the poorly matched 3-piece mahogany body looks cheesy. Not as bad as some 70's LP's, though.

One minor complaint: The case BARELY fits. I guess Godin didn't want to spend a lot on cases for a budget guitar (and now I hear they're switching to godless communist gigbags.. YYEECCHHHH). But you gotta wonder if just a simple, rectangular black-tolex fender-style case wouldn't have been a better idea than the one they're selling.

No other flaws.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Will this guitar withstand live playing? Probably

Does the hardware seem like it will last? Probably

Is the finish good enough to last, or does it seem thin and easy to wear off with lots of playing? Nah, seems like a good solid finish. But then, these questions can't be answered for at least a few years now, can they?

Are the strap buttons solid? Yep.

Can you depend on it? Probably

Would you use it on a gig without a backup? I'd never gig ANY guitar without a backup!

Customer Support : 10
Here's where I'm extremely impressed. After buying this inexpensive guitar, I emailed Godin twice with question.. each time "Carlos" answered promptly, and the second time put me in touch with a sales rep so I can track down another model I'm interested in looking at for possible purchase.

Overall Rating : 10
How long have you been playing? 25 years or so

What other gear do you own? Aforementioned amps and pedals, several teles, warmoth custom guitars with barden pickups. Over the years, I've had boatloads of gibsons, fenders and others.. some expensive and fancy, some bare-bones. Keeping it simple works a hell of a lot better. But then, Jesus, Lord Buddha, Mark Twain and John Steinbeck were trying to tell us that all along. In fact, they may be trying to tell me that again!

Is there something you wish you had asked before buying this guitar? "Can I have another?"

If it were stolen or lost, would you buy it again or get something else? I'm not waiting for that! I'll soon be trading a least-loved "parts" tele for another Godin LG SP90.. probably not in red, though; Black or Gold looks good. We'll see what's available.

What do you love about it? It's simple, just like a tele. Just plug in and go. It took a little amp adjusting the first time out, because I usually play teles. But I like it a lot.

What do you hate? The case is awkward, and the multi-piece body could have been better matched for a uniform look.

What is your favorite feature? s-i-m-p-l-i-c-i-t-y The cause of suffering is desire. Desire less, feel more joy.

Did you compare it to other guitars? Which ones? Why did you choose this one? Over the years I've played a lot of guitars, so I know what to expect from certain features and combinations of woods, hardware, etc. I've seen this in magazines and stores for a while now, and it delivered what I wanted it to deliver.

Anything you wish it had? A twin sister?

Anything else you'd like to share? World Peace. But it looks like that's on hold for at least a couple of years, eh? Play music, reduce hate, make world better.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Tres bien reglee d'origine, cordes souples qui vont bien, bends et pull offs faciles.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Je pense qu'elle est indestructible. Je n'emmenerai pas de back up en concert sauf pour avoir un autre son. Peut etre qu'un changmenet de cordes serait laborieux avec ce systeme qui passe dans le corps (Tele). I was looking for a second guitar for "other" tones than my G&L Strat style. I had a Les Paul Jr (double cutaway) 20 years ago and felt that would be a suitable 2nd. I found a few in my area (So Cal) but the music shops wanted too much. I had read a great review on the Godin LG a few months back in Guitar Player, but no one carried them, so I forgot about it - until I visited Guitar Resurrection in Austin. They had a Congac finish LG on the wall, I played it, and fell in love. I did check out the other stores there and saw LP Jr's, but I went back and bought the Godin (and saved 800 bucks). It looked gorgeous, played great, and sounded great through a Rivera Knucklehead. The strings through the body add so much to the tone. The guitar came with a decent hardshell case. The hardware is black (tuners, volume/tone nob, bridge, pick-ups) and it came with the Duncan P90's. They are a bit noisey when overdriven real hard, but that's rock n roll. I am putting Fralin P90's in it soon because they have a hum cancelling feature when both pickups are on, and I've read great reviews about them. For what I saved by buying this I can afford to upgrade a bit. I did have to replace the nut because the strings were catching and causing tuning problems. Thus, a 9.

Sound : 9
My style is what ever the gig calls for. I've played with different groups that range from 60's, straight ahead rock, Cumbia/Salsa, and on the worship team at my church. I play through either a Peavey Classic 50 thru 2 12's, or a Laney AC30 copy with 4 10's. My pedal board has a Fulltone Fulldrive and Distortion Pro, Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive and Microvibe, Boss tremelo and harmonizer pedal. I also have a Digitech Legend which goes thru the effects loop (mainly for the delay - I don't have a good practical pedal yet). I have to adjust my volume and treble at gig's because the Godin is "hotter" and brighter than my G&L (with Fralins also). The Godin resonates like an acoustic, notes seem to sing out, and sustain?.....wonderful. I am used to Sperzel locking tuners on my G&L so I may put them on the Godin also. I does go out a bit when playing hard. Again, a 9.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The guitar had new strings on it (9's) when I took it off the wall (I put 10's on it when I got it home. Much better). The action was perfect for me, the pickups were set up great, and I saw no flaws in the finish or frets. It was beautiful. The screw that tightens the tone nob was loose, but the salesman tightend it right there, and checked out everything else. No problems. The 3 way switch seems cheap but I've had no problems.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I tend to use this guitar for more of the "harder" gigs along with my G&L. At church the stage lights interfere with the P90's sometimes. I am carefull to roll back the volume when a song is over. I always take both guitars when I gig, but on quite a few occasions I have started with the Godin and played 2 sets without touching the G&L. All I had to do was fine-tune for the slower/quieter songs. I give it a 9 because of the tuning.

I've been playing for about 30 years. I play to have fun. I will sit in with anyone who would ask - whether it's acoustic or electric (county, rock, blues). I'd probably starve if I had to play for a living. If this guitar was stolen I'd drive back to Texas to get another one. I did play a few Les Paul Jr's and the new ones for the price didn't compete with the Godin. The old/used ones I saw were too much $ for what you got. I have received nothing but compliments from the other guitarist's who have heard this axe.

My LG SP90 ($535) was, like all, assembled in new hampshire of canadian parts. 22 fret rosewood with mahogany neck/bod. 1 vol, 1 tone, 3 way selector, 2 creeeamy Duncan SP90's(drool). i got the satin natural finish-very simple but purty. Kind of Les Paulish body style. Bolt on, but felt/sounded like a glue in. Simple string through bridge. HAd a nice wide thin neck. I didnt get the case, so i paid a little less. I give this guitar a 10, not because it had tons of features but because for what it DID have, it was useful and simple. I can't stand crap with quilted tops, tap switches and bells and whistles that serve little purpose because the guitar is toneless. In this respect, the LG was perfect.

Sound : 10
I play a lot of classic rock, blues some hard rock and lately, a little jazz. This guitar's tone was FLAWLESS in all styles mentioned. I play through a twin 'verb for my cleaner stuff and a plexi reissue for the higher gain stuff. The LG obviously hums a tad on higher gain settings. Very full sounding guitar, almost no dead spots and i couldn't fret out if i wanted to. Neck pickup with moderate gain/mid settings almost (ALMOST) sounds stratty in the upper register (think SRV.) Overall the tone was awesome and well balanced in any pickup position.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Factory fresh action was actually quite comfortable. I felt like i could play anything on it. Pickups were PERFECTLY balanced and i havent touched them yet. I dig the reccess bridge/pu's- allows for a very comfortable feel

Product: Godin LG SP90
Price Paid: US $350 used

Features : 10
Probably a 2001 LG since I picked it up used. It's a joint US/Canada affair, components crafted in Canada and assembled in the States. It's a solid, three piece mahogany body (single cutaway, half way between a Les Paul and a Telecaster) finished in "cognac burst." The neck is mahogany (a sort of shallow "C" shape) with a satin-like finish, rosewood fingerboard, 24 frets, and a 24.75" scale. The tuners are apparently Godin's own non-locking type. The bridge is a Tune-O-Matic type...but instead of the usual stop bar, it's string-thru-body like a Telecaster. One volume, tone tone, 3 way pickup selector. All hardware is black. It's straplock ready. Seymour Duncan SP-90's are onboard for your picking pleasure. I bought it used and it came with a Godin case.

Synth access? No.
Piezo saddles? No.
Locking Floyd-type bridge? No.
Flame top? No.
Tons of binding and fancy inlays? No.

Everything I need and nothing I don't? Yes. But I will "only" give it an 8 since it is intended to be a fairly straight-forward guitar.

Sound : 10
I play just about anything I can hack away at: rock, blues, jazz, rockabilly, classical, ska/reggae/dub, swing, metal, and everything else under the sun. I play it through a Peavey Classic 30 and a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. These are P-90's, so I expected some noise. The middle position on the 3 way switch is NOT hum-cancelling.

The magazine reviews of these guitars tend to focus on the clean tones, and I can tell why. The clean tone is marvelous. Full, round, and warm with the neck pickup. A biting but not overly "honky" bridge pickup sound, and with both pickups engaged it's just a big clean sound with ample bass, a full midrange, and cutting highs that aren't piercing.

However, don't think this guitar is an angel. Once you get some overdrive on these pickups, they give that lovely P-90 raunch. They give a simply amazing distorted tone. The neck has the "woman tone" down, but with a little more attitude. The bridge has a good biting treble, and plenty of "body." The middle position is my favorite in distorted mode...just a beautifully balanced sound.

Overall, the LG has a fairly rich sound, but with enough highs to not make it dull or muddy.

This guitar makes all the tones I want it to. I think it truly will do well on just about any genre you throw at it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
This was a used guitar, so I can't comment on how well a job Godin did on the original set-up. The action was very comfortable...maybe even a little low for me. The routs were all done masterfully, everything is tight. The neck pocket is as tight as you'll find anywhere. The pickups were adjusted well and the output was even.

However, you can definitely count the number of pieces of wood used for the body. This isn't from bad craftmanship, but just the grain patterns of the wood. The finish has a few scuffs on it, and the headstock is a little scratched. This is a used guitar, so I'm rating it as one. The action is great, the fit is amazing, but the finish has some abuse...but it still looks very, very good.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar will definitely withstand some abuse. The hardware is very solid. Although there are some scuffs on the finish, it is still very thick. The strap-lock ready strapbuttons are solid.

I'd gig confidently without a backup with this.

Customer Support : 10
I've e-mailed LaSiDo a couple of times. Sometimes they've answered, sometimes they haven't. The dealer has always been helpful.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing over eight years now, and I gigged out professionally for three. This is my 14th guitar. I own Fender, Godin and Seagull, Tacmoa, Takamine/Jasmine, and other mongrel breeds. I talked down the price just a little, from $365 to $350. I compared this with other mahogany, Gibson-esque guitars, PRS, and also a Godin Flat Five X (which I wrote another review for). The Flat Five X was probably the best guitar I played. This LG came in second, yet I really, really liked it. I came back another time to play it and was impressed. I came back again, and had to have it. I simply fell in love with this guitar. It looks beautiful, sounds beautiful, and plays beautifully. I would definitely replace this guitar if stolen. I haven't played another P-90 equipped guitar that I have liked more. The only thing I wished this guitar had is a 25.5" scale, since I'm used to Fenders. But I own other 24.75" scale guitars and it's a non-issue when going from instrument to instrument now. I was in the market for a single cutaway, mahogany, P-90 guitar. This one was head and shoulders above anything else. Godin makes incredible instruments. This is my second one, and I know I will buy more in the future. I truly believe that LG's (and pretty much all LaSiDo products) deserve the rave reviews they get.

This is a 2001 LG SP90. It has a 24&3/4 inch scale on a mahogany body and neck with a transparent cherry finish. It sports two Seymour Duncan SP-90s with a three-way selector switch and one volume and tone control. The strings pull through the body over a tune-o-matic type bridge. This is a simple, beautiful guitar.

Sound : 10
The LG has a very woody, warm tone. The P-90s in a mahogany body sound great through my Fender Deville amp. I run the guitar through a Fulltone wah, Fulltone Fulldrive II, Keeley TS-9 and a Keeley modified Rat pedal. The P-90s are fairly quiet through all the pedals. The LG sounds great through all my effects, even with the heavier drive of the Rat pedal! Hit the G string above the 12th fret and listen to the beautiful, smooth overdriven tone! I must mention, the Keeley modified TS-9 and Rat pedals sound terrific as well. I have never heard a better P-90 tone.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The guitar needed a small neck adjustment, but otherwise was set up very well. The 24&3/4 inch scale and low action make it a joy to play. The pickups were set well and sound great. Again, the guitar is beautiful.

Reliability/Durability : 10
The LG is simple and will last with proper care. I have seen no problems with reliability or durability.

Customer Support : 9
I have spoken with a Godin Rep in the store and he was very nice and informative. I have not needed to call or e-mail the company for any reason.

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing off and on for 28 years on many different guitars. I currently own a Strat, G&L ASAT, Carvin DC 135 and the Godin LG. The LG is a great playing, sounding guitar. I love the P-90 tone in the mahogany body! I plan to keep it and would certainly replace it if needed. Give it a try!

I play literally everything but rap and perhaps Botswainian top 40. This guitar has a magnificent clarity that suits many styles. It doesn't suit "nu-metal",but nothing should, for that matter. The low end seems round and focused, the mids smooth and singing, the highs
clear and sweet. Played standard,it sounds great, but lay a slide to it,and it kills(in a good way). Who needs a vocalist? It sings like a canary! It retains a very acoustic quality, even with a moderate amount of overdrive. It can become quite noisy with high-gain circuits,or an abundance of effects, and the middle positon does not cancel hum,but who cares? Plug straight in to a bassman or AC30, and watch jaws dislocate!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
This is actually my 2nd LG. The 1st I had for 3 days. The pickup selector was defective, and there was some sort of grounding problem
that resulted in a loud hum and a mild shock each time I touched the hardware. Nobody could figure out what was causing it(not even Godin), so they sent me a new one.It took forever to arrive(they said they were building it;none in stock at the factory?),but it rules! It plays well, the top pieces are almost perfectly matched, the finish is flawless. It would be a ten,but what was the deal with the 1st one?

Reliability/Durability : 10
It's a rock.I can't dent it,and I drop things like leatherman tools on my guitars, because I have a terrible grip on that sort of thing,
and that seems to be the only I can find with which I can work on my guitars(prepositions suck).

Customer Support : 10
They gave me a new one,no questions asked, instead of trying to repair the old one or blame the problem on me. It took a few weeks, but still, they get a ten.

and a 1934 L-5 RI(anyone want to help?).I'm a young collecting freak, and it is a solid tonal investment for any collection(and it's quite affordable). I would replace it,were it lost or stolen but only after I got the other stuff I want, which could take awhile.

Read the previous reviews or check the website! I give it an 8 because it doesn't have any whistles or bells - just plain and simple - LOTS OF TONE!

Sound : 10
I play classic rock from the 70's and up. Contrary to the Guitar Player Magazine's review - this guitar can scream! Depending on your amps tone and your fingers - you can do anything except whammy bar stuff! It's fairly quiet. I onw many guitars and this is fast becoming one of my favorites. I had some concern about getting a bolt on neck, but Godin's "got it down". that neck is tighter than any set neck and probably just as strong as a neck-through. the mahogany neck and body give it a real unique andwoody tone. this guitar has convinced me that Mahognay IS the only wood to make an electric guitar out of. Top the mahogany off with maple and you lower the resonance of the guitar. The Duncan's were specifically designed for this guitar's tone and resonance. INCREDIBLE!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Beatiful construction throughout! Excellent hardware, Pups, and fretwork. Strapolcks included! '-) Can't find a flaw anywhere. I don't believe any guitar comes from the factory set up for your individual playing. mine needed some minor tweaks to make it the way I like it. If you're a shredder - don't bother. this guitar is a TONE MACNINE. Even with the limited 3 pickup combination, by manipulating the volume and tone controls - it's all there. Great job Godin!!

Reliability/Durability : 10
Like anything else - if you take care of it - it will last! Clean and polish it, keep it in the case or on a stand - don't spill beer on it, or use it for a baseball bat! Keep it warm when it's cold, and cool when it's hot - Duh!!! ;-) I've gigged with it about 20 times in 2 months - excellent!

Customer Support : 10
Tim Dion @ Godin will do anything he can to help the customer. I don't forsee any problems but feel confident they will support theire product. These guitars are the best kept secret in the guitar world.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for about 35 years. I use Mesa amps exclusively! I've owned over 250 quality guitars in that time - just about every brand and model made. This, with out a doubt, one of the best made, playing and SOUNDING guitars I've owned. It's not a beautiful AAA quilt top toneless piece of furniture - it's warm, smooth, toneful, impeccably made MUSICAL INSTRUMENT. You owe it to yourself to play one, own one. Would replace it in a heartbeat.

Made in Canada/USA in 2000? 24 frets. Solid top. SP90/SP90. It's neck and body are made from mahogany. For the rest just go to the web site. I bought it for the SP-90s but it is one of the coolest guitars on the market for the price. I'd say the best features are the recessed tune-o-matic bridge and pickups. Note to all you sore wrist players: The wide flat neck and recessed features make it a very comfortable guitar to play.

From the web site: "The hand crafted mahogany neck of the LG sits in a deep pocket in the mahogany body. This crucial connection provides excellent energy transfer between neck and body. Pulling the strings through the body increases resonance even further. In other words, this is one lively guitar."

I got the high gloss Deep Gold because it was on sale. I wanted the Trans. Red. The lighter finish probably resonates even better.

Sound : 10
The SP90s are nice and not noisy. Great smooth P-90 sound. Great for gain or clean. I'm using a Fender Deluxe and a Laney 15R. Both sound really good with this guitar. The only thing I can say negative is the intonation does seem to be off slightly on the higher frets but I'm really stretching to find any faults.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Action is perfect (after my own adjustment.) I'm using .009 thru .046 gauge D'Addario strings. I did adjust the action and truss rod when I got it but I do that with all of my guitars, including my two PRS guitars. The construction is absolutely top-of-the-line. Nut, Bridge, neck/body joint and finish are perfect. Much better than I would have expected from a guitar in this price range. I've never owned a 24 fret guitar but I have found it usefull.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Solid well built guitar. It's all good!

Customer Support : No Opinion
I did try to get the store where I bought it to adjust the neck for fret buzz, and they didn't do much good. I ended up doing it myself. I think it's really the only way your going to get it the way you like it. I didn't notice much fret buzz after I adjusted it.

Otherwise, I've never talked to Godin.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for many years and own too much gear to mention. I will say I have two PRS guitars that I will not review cause them because the reviews are redundant. PRS makes great guitars and everyone knows it. But not everyone knows what a value the Godin LG sP90 is so that is why I'm reviewing it. I would replace it if it were stolen - and I don't know if that is true about anything else I own (other than my Toyota pickup.) I love the quality of construction and the smooth p90 sound. I can't say I wish for any additional features except for an additional vol. and tone knobs for each pickup. If you have tried a Godin LG SP90 and you like it - BUY IT!

This is a brand new Godin LG SP90. 24 frets,1 vol., 1 tone, 3 pos switch. The pickups are Seymour Duncan sp 90. I was told when I
ordered it that it came with a hardshell case---But it only came with
a gigbag. I don't know if the dealer made a mistake or just told me
that to get me to order. The bag is good quality, but not a case.
This is a very basic guitar---no frills. I will give it an 8 for
features because of the pickups.

Sound : 10
This guitar sounds beautiful. It can do whatever you need. I play
through a Reverend Hellhound amp. My only effects are a Visual Sound
Ultimate Overdrive and a Danelectro Cool Cat Chorus. With the overdrive you can get a full on CRUNCH. The guitar cleans up very well also.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The finish is trans. red. It looks much better in person than on the
Godin website. A few tweeks and it was ready to go. The only dislike I have with the guitar from the factory are the .009 guage
strings that come stock. I switched to .011 as soon as I got it home.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Seems like it is very SOLID. Hardware looks great. Sraplocks are
standard. Would not play without a backup because it does not stay
in perfect tune. I would pay more for locking tuners(like what comes
stock on Reverends). For the price I don't think there is a better
guitar on the market.

Godin I have ever played is very good. I will probably only buy
Godin and Reverend guitars in the future.

This is kind of like a tele-les paul blend with P-90 pickups, in a string thru arrangement. Sustains great. Simple controls - three way , volume, tone control. The controls work very well - there is a wide range of tones available. These Seymour Duncan P-90s are sweet! You can get sweet clear cleans to raunchy raw middy tones, to screaming lead tones. THe three piece satin mahogany is gorgeous. Very tight hardware. Stays in tune pretty well. Needs a tweak or two after a few string-bendy songs. This guitar sounds very good. It plays effortlessly, you could play it for days - it is very comfortable.

Sound : 10
Suits me great. I don't think it would be good for real metal, but for blues and rock, it is fantanstic.
I use a Crate Vintage CLub with three tens. I know many people think Crates suck, but Vintage CLubs are great. I use a Hotplate to tame this beast. Hotplates are indespensible. I can crank the amp to dime city, and not go deaf, but that's another story.
Anyway, the GOdin sounds excellent through this amp, so I am sure it would sound great through any good tube amp. When I bought this guitar, I was trying it on a cheapo lousy SS amp at the music store - and I was still impressed by the guitar's personality and sound.
It is not too noisy. P90s kind of bridge single coil sounds and humbucker sounds. They give a very distincive sound. This guitar is very responsive to the volume control. You can go from mild rythmn work to searing, singing sustaining lead tone.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
action -superb.
pickups set up perfectly.
The nut is off-center by about .010"
Machining work very precise and clean.
Fit and finish 9.999 out of 10.0

This guitar is well built. THe hardware is tight. The vol and tone controls and electrics are very high quality. Finish is gorgeous. I would not use a backup. The sound is sooo good, and that is what it's all about.

I have been playing around 20 years. I also have a strat and an LP copy. I am definitely going to buy another Godin someday. I am very glad to have found this baby before spending untold extra dollars on another big name. These guys really make a good guitar, and they are silly-cheap in relation to the value. THis is a pro-grade, made in North America, instrument for an import price.

Waited for 2 months, but finally arrived. LGSP90, natural semi-gloss mahogany finish, mahogany neck, black headstock with the Godin logo, black Seymour Duncans, volume, tone, 3-way. Absolutely flawless, as are all Godins and Seagulls. Made in Canada/USA. Nothing offshore here. Hard case, well-fitted. One has to see the natural mahogany/black combination to appreciate it. I just wanted a solid, good looking, great sounding guitar. No frills. This is it.

Sound : 10
I play rhythm guitar in a recently reunited 60's band. Mostly 1-4-5 rock n' roll. Eagles, CCR, Beatles, Zombies, Gerry & the Pacemakers, etc. I have my Yamaha classical guitar I bought in 1966, complete with reconstructed back as a result of a blow by an irate ex-girlfriend, a Seagull S6+ acoustic electric with a cedar top (for those fat, hollow body rhythms) and now my Godin LGSP90. I play through an American made Fender Acoustasonic Junior (2x40w). I get a very rich, full, clean sound through the Fender. It's all the amp I need for what I do. When I lift that strap over my head and have the Godin in my hands, I feel like I have never been without it, even though I had a lay-off of about 25 years. Not as heavy as I thought it would be. The fret markers are on the edge of the fingerboard as well as on the flat, easy to see.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The factory set-up was great. Pickups, too. As I said earlier, the natural mahogany/black combination must be seen to be appreciated. I have been a carpenter for 35 years, and I like wood to look like wood, as this Godin does. I was always told the lighter the finish, the better the wood has to be. The semi-gloss finish really accents the natural grain. It's hard to find a flaw with this instrument. The people who make these guitars should be very proud of what they do.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I think the only backup I need is for me. This guitar is weeks old, I'm 54. I hope I'm still slipping that strap over my shoulder when I'm 94. Solid mahogany will definitely stand the test of time. I hope I never drop it off my bed or down the stairs but it sounds like it can handle it.

Customer Support : 10
I bought my Godin & the Seagull through the best Music store around, DUNCAN MUSIC. Dave, Connor & Ian have always been very helpful. In fact, Robert Godin visited their store last week. I haven't required repairs for either guitar yet, but I suspect the service will be as good as the product.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing since I was 14. I'm 54 and have the Yamaha I bought when I was 18. My other guitar is a Seagull Acoustic electric. Now the Godin. I love to play them all, depending on my mood. The old Yamaha brings back so many memories. The Fender Acoustasonic is all the power I need for what I do. If the Godin were lost or stolen, I would purchase another in a second. I think the natural wood/black combo is great. Over the years I have owned Epiphone, Ric, Fender. I chose the Godin because it is built in Canada/USA, not offshore in some sweatshop. My only other purchase would be a Ric 330 or 360. That would be enough for me. But the Godin is such a good quality instrument for such a good price. I can't see spending hundreds more just for a name.

Suits me like a glove. Great clean sounds. Has a godd twang. Enough for my taste but not too much like a telecaster. Lacks a bit of sparkle when you hit high notes but it has a sound that is so accoustic that it doesn't matter. It sound (in the neck possition) as if you miked an accoustic guitar. Turn on the distortion and you're that much closer to heaven. It's not good for heavy metal but it's still quite agressive. Play with the volume, tone and position and you get a wide array of sound. From bluesy to rock to alternative to fuzzbox-like. Well play with it...it's very versatile. Even on clean..the more gain you put in theless accoustic it sounds. But i love thataccoustic sound. Even the outpou is good... same outpout as a seymourduncan Jazz. Its not a fender or a lespaul...it has a sound of its own and to my ear, it sound damn good. I'd give it a 10 personaly...but i just got it so it might be excitement

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Action is too low, frett buzz it omni present. But the guitar still smelled like varnish when i got it and the neck still smells as it if was just cut and glue. So the neck will settle in the comming weeks. The buzz is so minimal and the neck is prefectly straight and evenly fretted. A few adjustement and everythin will be fine. Finish is great. Looks like an old guitar from the early 70's. Thos sp-90 give it a great "retro" look. Low mark because of the frett buzz

This is a 2001 cognacburst high-gloss finish Godin LG with seymour duncan SP-90 single coil pick-ups. It has a 3-way selector with one volume and one tone control, the pick-ups are not reverse wound. Mahogany body with mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard. The neck is a wide, thin, 24 3/4 scale, style. Fixed bridge with non-locking tuners. The guitar came with a Godin gig bag, however I bought a new case since gig bags are not meant for actual gigs. There are few features, but the seymour duncan pick-ups are nice.

Sound : 10
I play in an original rock band and the pick-ups suit my style greatly. I play thru a line 6 ranchero 1x12 60watt amp. The mahogany body with the wide single coils produce an in-between humbucking and single coil type sound. There appears to be somewhat of a variety of sounds one can produce with this guitar. First off, I normally play a fender tele but I was looking for a more beefy sound, and this guitar fit the bill perfectly. It has tremendous sustain with the strings running directly thru the body. For the price, you won
t likely find a better playing and sounding guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The action on this guitar came really low with very little fret buzzing. The pick-ups were a little loose however, so I had to tighten them. The volume nob was also very loose when i recieved it, I thought it was broken but the skrew was missaligned with the pot. Other than that the finish was very good.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar seems like it would hold up in any situation, the hardware is of high quality. I can definetly depend on it, however I don't gig without back-ups so thats out of the question.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I hope I won't have to deal with customer support for any resaon.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 4 years, I also own a Samick and a Fender Tele. I was orignally looking at the Santana SE and the parker p-38 guitars which were both about $200-$300 more. In terms of playability this guitar blew them both out of the water. Its U.S. made with Canadian parts, and yes, it is exactly the quality you'd expect from an american made instrument. I get many comments on the original look of this guitar, its the best music related purchase I've made so far. As for if I'd buy another one if it was stolen, I think I'll never buy from anyone execept Godin from now on. For the price I can't ask for anything more from this guitar, it has everything I wished for in more expensive guitars.

Mine is a dark transparent cherry Mahogany body with string through body and tune-o-matic. Bolt on "Gibson" scale with 2 Duncan P-90's specifically voiced to the sonic properties of the instrument. Neck profile is kind of flat and wide but not quite like a shred guitar...really unique feeling. Very basic.

Sound : 9
Smooth, Smooth, Smooth sounding. The Duncan pickups are perfectly voiced. The focused neck sound is focused and the guitars willingness to systain is quite amazing. The bridge pickup has good cut, solid lows and great output. Both pickups can get traditional single coil sounds by rolling off the volume and brutal overdriven humbucker tones with distortion but with a bit more cripsness on the top end. The sonic versatility of the guitar is utterly amazing for a 2 pickup 3 way switched guitar. The quality in the array of tones is impressive to say the least. Unlike most other P90 guitars, this one is very quiet and must be well shielded.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Very built guitar. Fit and finish is good.

A few complaints but keep in mind this guitar costs less than alot of Korean made guitars. If Godin reads this, here are a few suggestions from the peanot gallery.

First: Godin could score big with a 2 piece body. The quality mahogany they use is very nice and light with great tone. 2 piece would give even better perception of quality.

Two: The mickey mouse silk screnned fret markers has got to go. They are small and hard to see. I may have pearl dots installed.

Superb p90 axe. If you are in the market for one of these, try the Godin out and be prepared for a real eye opening experience. Great tones are locked away in this very affordable beast. As far as my other gear goes, I have an '01 1958 Gibson Historic Les Paul, 1960 NOS Custom Shop Strat, '57 US Reissue Strat, Ernie Ball Axis, Vintage '59 Danelectro DC-2, Heritage 535 burst, Guild D-55 acoustic among others. Amps are a mix of Vintage Marshall Plexi, Fenders, and a few handmane boutiques. The Godin shares the guitar rack with guitars costing 4-5 times as much yet can hold its own in the tone department. Forget about the import garbage at the superstores, check out any of the Godins. They'll blow the doors off all that garbage for a very attractive price.

This is a recent LG SP90, but I have no idea the year. It's a beautiful cherry-red 3-piece mahogany bodied, bolt-on mahogany neck, solid body guitar with Seymour Duncan P90s. Short scale, 24 frets I think, fairly flat radius, medium jumbo frets, 3-on-a side tuners. Volume, tone, 3-way. Contoured body ("tummy cut"), very lightweight. Main two features: TONE and PLAYABILITY!

Sound : 10
AWESOME! These p90s are great. They're not nearly as noisy as some p90s, but you get all that good midrangey punch and growl. Beautifully sweet when clean; nice 'n nasty when cranked up with some gain. I'm playing mine thru a 45-watt tube Peavey Prowler combo amp and a Marshall Guv'nor pedal. Very nice sounding rig. Great for rock and blues.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
First rate. One thing I totally dig, EVERY Godin I've EVER seen had a very tight neck pocket fit. I can't say that for PRS bolt-ons, Fender Custom Shops, etc. EVERY one I've come across. Frets are dressed well, finish is nice, no issues at all.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I won't rate this, because who knows the future? I will comment that someone down below mentioned dropping theirs down a flight of stairs. Well, I've never done that. I did however, accidently knock this one off my bed. It landed (I think) right on the body, sort of flat, and hit the headstock. It did go out of tune a bit--probably because the tuners hit the floor--but it literally didn't put a ding or scratch anywhere. Wierd, I would have thought it would have. Anyway, I think it'll hold up fine.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Dunno.

A great, gig-worthy axe for very little cash outlay. An awesome axe that requrires no mods--even comes with straplocks installed! Way to go, Godin!!!!

Same spec as the others - assembled in the US from parts manufactured and finished in Quebec, mahogany body and neck, 24-fret rosewood board ("Gibson" 24 3/4" scale) two Duncan P90s, volume, tone, 3-way... Mine's finished in a beautiful, deep gold finish with black hardware. String-thru' body with a tune-a-matic. The tuners look like Schaller minis but are unmarked. One nice feature is that the pickups and bridge are set into the body to allow the neck to be set deeper and keep the strings low to the body... I never buy guitars new - there are so many good deals on the used market that it seems kind of foolish to me to pay twice as much for the right to put the first ding in it yourself :-) - but I had to pick the LG up brand new for two reasons: First, it's stoopid-cheap for what you get - I mean, this guitar costs less than a Korean-made Epiphone LP or Santana SE and easily outplays them both... and Second, you just can't find these things used - people hold onto them 'cause they're such great little axes... Bottom line is that this is an excellent straight-ahead blues/rock guitar, with lots of function but no real flash...

Sound : 10
The Duncan P90s kick! This is a great, raw tone for blues and classic rock - I use it with a couple of different rigs but it's rich and balanced and toneful enough to sound wonderful plugged straight into my Deluxe Reverb (no, it's not a Reissue :-). I especially enjoy using the in-between tone with the volume rolled off just a tad for cleanish rhythm work. I prefer this guitar to the Gibson LP Jr. in terms of playability and tone - this is a terrific P90 equipped guitar...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Beautiful finish. One dead spot on the neck cause by one uneven fret that needed some very light fret dressing/crowning to fix - did it myself in 10 minutes without even taking the strings all the way off. The neck pocket's dead tight and the paint is beautiful. Everything's lined up perfect...

Reliability/Durability : 9
Simple, reliable, functional. This guitar is quality parts and quality manufacture - it's built from a musician's perspective and made to take bar-abuse... It's not a PRS 10 top, so I wouldn't be afraid to take it anywhere. Strap buttons are Schaller straplocks, which I just happen to use on all my guitars, so I had plenty of straps with the appropriate hardware lying around the house :-) I never gig without a backup, but the lack of a trem means that this is a great guitar to break a string with since the rest won't be thrown out of tune... but I've never broken a string with it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never really dealt directly with the company, but I own several LaSiDo guitars and I'm very pleased with all of them. I think they take great pride in their work, and am sure they would take good care of me if I ever had a problem... I'm fortunate that I live close enough that I could drive to the factory if I wanted...

Overall Rating : 10
This is - imho - a great rock'n'roll guitar. Simple, classic design with tried and true materials, quality workmanship and great parts add up to a world of tone. For the money, I don't think you can beat the Godin LG. The closest competition on the market today are the EB/MM Axis Sport and the Gibson LP Jr., and they'll cost well more than twice as much. That extra money won't buy you better build quality, but it will get you a familiar name on the headstock. For me, the LG is everything I could want in a P90-equipped rocker and more... The Godin Radiator is an equally good bargain, though considerably less mainstream in conception and design. These guitars deserve to be considered by anyone looking for a high-quality, toneful, American-made gigging axe...

It's good to keep things simple. One volume, one tone, one switch, and two pickups. The pickups are 2 P90's, endowing a great mix of single coil twang with the distortion qualities of a humbucker.
The pickups are Seymour Duncan, a favorite of mine, and that helped me decide to pick up this guitar.

It's a real pretty guitar, and it feels very natural to play. It's my number one axe right now.

Sound : 9
This guitar has a big beefy sound with expressive response. Controlled feedback is easily possible when I play through my Marshall JCM 900 50 watt head into matching 4-12 cab.

I usually play an edgy melodic bluesy rock and roll style with my band, and this guitar really fits the bill for it. We can play a metal song, and it sounds right, we could play a funk song, and it still sounds right. The sound is 'me'.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I bought it used, but like new. The truss rod did need just a slight tweak because my band uses a flat tuning on all the strings. The body feels like 'home' when it's against mine and if you read Godin's mission statement, that's the way he and his company intended it to feel. The frets are an average size, and they play great. It's kind of like a cross between a strat and a les paul. It's like a marriage of the two. I know this was mentioned in another post, but...it still has it's own unique qualities regardless.

The finish is a three piece natural wood. I'm not sure what it is, but it looks great, despite the fact that it matches better on the backside of the guitar than it does on the front. In any case, I don't care! It's a great player with a smooth feel.

Reliability/Durability : 9
It'll last forever. Strings hold up well under plenty of abuse, and they hardly ever break. They will go out of tune after a couple rousing songs, but that is common.
I've replaced the strap buttons with Dunlop strap locks, for all the freedom I want when performing.
I always use it before picking up any other guitar.

Customer Support : 7
I've read up on the Godin website, and my guitar came with a manual describing his practice and belief in making quality instruments. My Godin at home proves that the company makes great guitars.
If all his employees were of the same mindset, then I rest assured that if I did need service, that it would be exceptional.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing almost 8 years. Hahaha! I went to a music store in Winchester, VA yesterday and was assaulted by an extremely arrogant salesman who thought he was god's gift to guitar playing. Pardon me for bitching about it, but I asked to try out a guitar, and he moved to a back room with it and proceeded to play as I watched! (Shredding of course, trying to look impressive) Talk about making the customer feel special! In any case, these little experiences make me feel good about my playing, because I play with my soul, not with my ego.
I bought my Godin LG at Mark's Guitar Loft in Lee, NH. The best guitar store I've been to yet! I bought the instrument as an impulse buy. I was dropping off a head for repairs and this guitar just called out to me. I never would've known it would be my best!

It's currently my #1 guitar. I gig with it, the marshall jcm 900 50 watt rig, and a '79 Gibson 'the paul' as a backup. The strings rarely ever break before they get tarnished on this beast, so it's basically the only guitar I use in the group.
A good solid buy if you don't mind being an individual!

Surprisingly enough, Godin although never really heard of much, is a fantastic guitar, it's sound is incredible! it has the sound of every good guitar mixed all into one. it's a dream come true, believe me, for someone who has been playing for 13 years.... it's great!
I will admit it's better for Jazz. but i've found quite a use for it in my music.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
and the action is insane, very low, very fast, consevitive... everything is wonderful, I can't even describe everything, because i'd just sound like I was repeating myself.... best guitar, on and off the market....

Reliability/Durability : 10
Unfortunatly, I dropped my new godin 2 weeks ago, down a flight of stairs... not one scratch! the only thing that happend is that it went a little out of tune, even that wasn't really a problem. I was so scared, but it's reliable, take another guitar, you drop that anywhere, off a bed, it shatters like a peice of glass that just came out of the dishwasher that you put COLD water in.... but not this guitar, reliable, and durabile.

Customer Support : 10
never, but somoene who made such a great guitar must be perfect!

Overall Rating : 10
i've been playing for 13 years, I own almost every pedal on the planet, 32 diffrent types of amps, 6 godins, and other guitars, that I have no use for ever since I got the godins. i'd buy more godis.. that's all I intend to buy. I love this guitar, it's a match made in heaven for me... but that is me. if you enjoy guitar, this is the guitar for you....

This guitar is awesome. It sounds so good that I never pick up my G&L strat or my Les Paul Standard.I play It through a Fender Hot Rod Deville and a Fender Pro Junior. I love Its tone it is wonderful. It feels good in my hans too.Do your self a big favor and buy this guitar you wont be sorry

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I am a perfectionist and i must admit that I tweaked the truss rod ever so slightly.I`m giving them a nine here but the were pretty darn close to perfect.Weather affects a guitars set-up drastically so it may not be their fault .It probably left the factory perfect.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I do use this guitar gigging It has performed flawlessly.I always carry a back-up but i`ve never used it.Also this guitar suprised me with how quiet it is when not in use ,there is no hum ,hiss or noise at all when plugged in

Godin is good and helpful when needed

I`ve been playing 17 years.I like tube amps and plugging straight in.his guitar has a vibe that makes me smile. If all my equipment were stolen this would be the first thing I`d replace.I love this guitar. Its also a good value too. It didn`t break my bank account like my other two guitars did.

Plain and simple. Mahogy body and neck. rosewood fret board. 24 frets. 2 pick-up (seymour duncans sp90) 3 way selctor switch. Bolt-on neck that has a really thight fit. strings through body. Not a high rating cause there aint a lot of features but hey they are still great features

Sound : No Opinion
I like it a lot. I won't but any marks on it cause i didn't try it through my set-up. Only at the store.but stil it was on a fender twin reverb. Very very very nice sound when played clean. nice clear and sharp sound that has a full body. to my ear it's perfect without playing with the nobs.. and when you play with them you get an aray of great usable sounds. Then i wanted to know how it sounded when i wanted to play dirty. so i plugged it in a marshall jcm-900 100W head and a matching mashall 4x12. MAn did it ever sounded dirty. hahaha sounded like a strat going through the same amp but with more guts to it. think les-paul sweetness with a fender twangny attack. But don't forget. it doesn't sound like a les paul OR a fender...ti juste reminds you of them. all in all it has a sound of it's own that is greatc lean and very good for rock or pregressive even alternative on distortion. you could play metal but t doesn't have the punch a a humbucker

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
great action, finish is marvelous: gold top. look simple..plays gard

can't say only played it for 2h straight at the store. but the pots where a litle loose...

1999 Godin LG with 2 Seymour Duncan P90's. Solidbody Mohogany. 24 frets, Volume, tone and a three way switch, has the standard Godin body shape. Has a nice natural red see-thru finish. Schaller tuners and bridge, with string thru body. Nice thin neck, and countoured body.Gig bag was included. Only a five for features, but that's what I wanted!

Sound : 10
Suits the blues style just fine. Using with a Fender '65 Deluxe, 1969 Fender Twin, 1998 Hot Rod Deluxe and 1999 Blues Jr. Has typical single coil noise. This guitar has a fat sound, it's about as hot as my Sheraton with Duncan '59's and way hotter than any Strat or Tele that I've ever heard. I really enjoy playing this guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I'll give it a solid 10 here. No flaws, I did change the 009's to 010's, the were just too slinky for me. This guitar is elegant in its simplicity. I did have to readjust the volume knob as it was rubbing on the body (could have happend in the store I guess).

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar should last as long as you want it to last, just give it the proper care and take the proper precautions. All hardware is solid. I wouldn't gig with any guitar without a backup, but that's just a quirk of mine.

Customer Support : 8
I wrote the company, they were very nice to deal with, took them a while but they were apologetic.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing 35 years. Have mainly Fender gear and a Sheraton. I also bought 2 Seagull guitars (6 string and a 12 string), from these folks, Lasido is the parent of Godin and Seagull, as well as others. These instruments are a great value. I had wanted something with P90's, I tried a Epi Les Paul Goldtop '56 re-issue. It was fine, but for less cash, I got a superior instrument, that is different, that I won't want to replace the pickups on. Do yourself a favor and check these out.
