I got my Godin LG as a birthday present in February 2007 so I've had it now for a little over a year and I'm very pleased with it. It is a 2004 or 2005 model with a Cognac Burst finish purchased through eBay for $350. Most of the features standard to the other LGs are the same on this one. Since it's one of the older models it has a 3-way switch and 22 frets. I can't comment on the pickups as the previous owner replaced them with a set of EMG 85/81s (no complaints here). Hardtail bridge is good for acoustic play, the sound is pretty loud for an electric. I really enjoy the playability of the neck, it's very quick and just the right size/shape for my hands. I would prefer a gloss/laminate coat on the fretboard as my fingers will sometimes stick to it but it's nothing that would effect my decision to buy one again. Came with a gig bag with the original pickups in it.
Sound
:10
The hardtail bridge creates a nice loud acoustic sound compared to other electrics. With the EMGs this guitar can put out some nice sounds when distorted or clean. I like the range of genres I can cover which is great because I have such a variety in musical taste. This was all from a cheap and failing amp so I can only imagine the tone through a higher quality one.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
Since I got it used I can't comment on the factory set-up but it was just right when I got it. The action was low enough to feel right to me and no fret buzz. No flaws that I have ever found on it. I'm assuming the upgraded pickups were professionally installed because they sound great and appear to be properly aligned. The finish isn't particularly flashy but it is resistant to scratches and dents so I'm happy with it.
Reliability/Durability
:10
This guitar is really tough. It spent 6 months in my dorm room and took a lot of abuse from people with no guitar experience yet hasn't acquired any noticeable dents or scratches. It's taken a few falls too on some carpeted concrete floors and still plays/looks fine. All the hardware seems pretty durable as well.

For the price this is an unbeatable guitar. I highly suggest buying one over a low end Gibson or PRS because Godin really puts their full effort into creating solid, quality guitars of all price ranges. I would kind of like a laminated neck and tremolo bridge but I think that would stray from the variety and range of this guitar. I'll probably end up buying a Godin Freeway or Velocity to go with it rather than replace it. I have no complaints about the guitar really, just me being greedy. If it was lost or stolen I would either buy another LG or one of the other guitars I mentioned a few lines back; definitely another Godin for sure.

i have returned to guitar playing after a 40 year hiatus(i prefer to think of it as an extended intermission) i play mostly blues and what i lack in talent i more than make up for with dogged determination the lg is played with a yamaha DG 130h amp through 2 real old marsland projector speakers housing 4 8" speakers per side and a digitech rp300a effects pedal i can attain any sound i desire much to the dismay of my wife who is oblivious to a guy's need for "guy stuff" played at great volume
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
the guy i purchased the lg from on ebay obviously looked after it as it looked almost brand new when i received it but i took it down to the local luthier who did a complete setup on it and replaced the strings with a set of real slinky ernie ball strings i have no issues at all at this time with this guitar
Reliability/Durability
:No Opinion
i will be pushing up daisies before i am ever competant enough to impose my meager talents on the unsuspecting public and i haven't had the guitar long enough to comment on durability aspects but i do have plenty of backup that i have been acquiring at flea markets and garage sales lately should anything go wrong with the lg in my basement and failing that the guy across the street has 23 guitars (americans collect firearms while we canadians collect guitars)

first time around i played guitars from age 18-21 i owned a gibson j-45 and
a hofner electric guitar with a weird red naugahide leather like finish and a norman b-15 acoustic i started back playing again in the spring of this year and since then, in addition to the lg i have, (in many moments of great weakness) also acquired a godin artisan st, a godin g-4000, a yamaha pacifica 112(great playing machine for cheapo bucks), a seagull folk acoustic, a simon&patrick full size, an art and luthier full size,(the last three are all godin products) a 70's no name japanese les paul jr knockoff, a fender f-10 classical, a wonderful 30's regal parlour, a late 30's-early 40's gibson reckoning king lap slide, an older emperador 12 string and a custom built fender strat if the lg was stolen i would beat the perp to death with my reckoning king lapslide which has the density of george bush jr,allows for the back swing of john daly and could be used on any building demolition site with no adverse affects to the guitar i would then buy another lg of course i love the versatility of the lg and my favourite feature is the neck(i have small hands and need a fairly thin neck to play with) i probably purchased this guitar because of the positive reviews on it by other harmony central review contributers i now use the reviews as my bible for a lot of my purchases because i find most reviewers to be both literate and factual as well as honest in their apprasals

The LG is a well-made, dual humbucker, bolt-neck guitar assembled in the U.S.A. from components made in Canada. Godin is a Canadian company, based in Quebec, known for making quality, somewhat unusual acoustic and electric guitars (under a variety of brand names) at reasonable prices. I bought it as a supplement to my 15-year-old Squier Stratocaster, and wanted something different from that nice guitar, but still with something of the Fender feel I like. Even though I didn't expect it, I found what I wanted in the Godin LG dual-humbucker model.
Mine is an older LG, pre-2004, with two exposed humbuckers, not the chrome humbuckers on the newer LGHB model, or the Duncan P-90s on its sister LGP90. I bought it used in July 2005, and I think it may be from 2002 or so -- it has not seen a lot of wear. Also unlike the newer model, mine has a 3-way (not 5-way) pickup switch and a longer 24 (not 22) fret fingerboard. Like all LGs, it has a mahogany neck with a rosewood fretboard, joined to a mahogany body by a 4-bolt neck plate -- although this one is a more straightforward Fender-style square plate, rather than the contoured design on newer models. The cord jack is on the lower edge of the guitar, Tele/Les Paul style, and there is one volume knob and one tone knob, both knurled black metal.
The body shape is distinctive, with a single small lower cutaway, yet not like a Les Paul or a Telecaster, and contoured. Mine is black, nothing too special, but this finish is of good quality. (There are very nice natural and red versions I have seen.) It looks a bit like the old Ernie Ball Eddie Van Halen model, yet differs from that too. There is no pickguard. It uses what is apparently a Graph-Tech white nut, fairly large frets, and very smooth Godin black-buttoned sealed tuning machines on a small 3-per-side headstock without string trees. The bridge is a non-vibrato ("hard tail") Tune-o-Matic style Schaller with convenient flat-head adjustment screws, in front of a pretty staggered string-through-body tailpiece that ends on the underside of the guitar, not with individual holes for each string, but in a single brass end plate which looks very solid. The bridge, knobs, and pickups are all black, giving the guitar a bit of a stealth appearance, which fits with its character -- it will surprise you.
The fretboard is reasonably wide and very, very flat. Godin has developed a particular fretboard design that uses a 16" radius (rather than the very curvy 7.5" of old Fenders, 9" of many newer guitars, or 12" of modern metal-style guitars) with nicely rolled edges. Yet even as someone who prefers Fender-style necks, this one feels very good and is not hard to play barre chords on, despite the lack of curvature. The neck itself is pretty beefy, but not too big. If you have small hands, you should try Godin necks out before buying -- you might like them, or you might not. The neck and fretboard are fairly grainy-feeling, rather than having a slick finish, but I like that.
The scale is the shorter 24-3/4" Gibson style, rather than the longer 25-1/2" Fender length, despite the bolt-on neck. I didn't even realize that my guitar had 24 frets when I bought it (guess I was paying attention to other things), but that makes it different from the newer 22-fret models, where the pickups have slightly different placement. The pickups themselves are labeled Godin, and may be modified Seymour Duncans, since Duncan makes pickups for many other Godin guitars, including the LG P-90 model many others at Harmony Central have reviewed, which is otherwise identical to this one. The guitar has no pickguard, and the exposed pickups look a little bare, but this is a quality, functional instrument, not a museum piece. It's meant to be played.
After looking for a new, inexpensive electric guitar for several weeks, and spending an entire day resolved to find one, I examined many different models, most of which were made in Indonesia,
Sound

I've only had this guitar for a day, but it was the kind that everyone always advises you to buy: it spoke to me after trying a whole bunch of different instruments. The LG has a wonderful acoustic chime when not plugged in -- despite all the mahogany, it is not heavy and it's well balanced physically and tonally. The humbuckers are also great pickups for this price of guitar, with lots of articulation and a variety of good sounds from clean to overdriven. They're not especially hot (compared to other humbuckers or, especially, P-90s), but they certainly have enough oomph for most people's needs. As they should, the humbuckers block most electrical buzz, which is nice compared to my old Strat.
So far I've played the LG through a Traynor Custom Valve combo and Line 6 Pod (in the store), then at home straight into my '70s silverface Fender Princeton 12-watt combo, then through a SansAmp GT2 amp simulator and the Princeton, with and without a Danelectro Daddy-O overdrive and an MXR Phase 90 phaser pedal, and straight into my eMac with the built-in guitar effects in GarageBand. I have yet to get a bad sound out of the LG: from chiming clean to R&B crunch to Mesa-Boogie over-the-topness, it handles them all well.
I did notice that, because of the humbuckers, I had to adjust the tone controls on everything I have, since they were set for the much brighter, bell-like pickups on my Strat, but that would be true for nearly any humbucker-equipped guitar. That was particularly noticeable in GarageBand, but I was able to get great tones with a bit of tweaking. Just don't expect full Fender spank and quack -- the LG leans more to the Gibson-PRS end of the guitar design spectrum.
I'm storing my band's guitarist's rare and expensive 1994 Matchless DC-30 Class A 2x12" combo (I make a living a drummer, not a guitar player), but I have resisted hauling it out to try so far. I don't think my resistance will last long. The LG could really do some nice things with a high-end Class A amp.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
My guitar was used, but the new LGs at Long & McQuade in Vancouver (priced at $500 Cdn) seemed set up well. The in-set design of the bridge and pickups mean that the strings can lie low to the guitar's body right from the fretboard to the tailpiece. The action is good, without buzz. The LGs come stock with .10 through .46 strings, which is nice because I prefer heavier gauges -- when I need to change them, I'll probably get it set up for .11 to .52s.
There are a few minor dings and scratches here and there on my guitar, but nothing significant. Just evidence that it's been played. There was a still a plastic shipping film over the control plate cover on the back of the guitar, which indicates mine isn't too old. All the hardware feels exceptionally solid, and none of the controls is scratchy, which was a problem I found with many of the import guitars I tried, even brand new ones. Tuning stability is wonderful. I had planned on replacing the bridge saddles, nut, and string trees on some of the other guitars I looked at with Graph-Tech stuff if I bought them (I did that on my Strat years ago), but this one has good material, and I won't need to do that. If I'd bought another guitar and needed to do that, I would have eliminated any price savings over the Godin anyway, so I think this was a better choice.
Fit and finish are good. I noticed a bit of paint wear inside the holes where the strings enter the body at the top, but I guess that's expected, and it doesn't detract from performance at all. The guitar is a bit dusty, either because its owner hadn't played it for awhile, or because it sat on the wall at the store for a few months. Good for me -- I was lucky enough to find it. The construction of this guitar is miles ahead of any of the Asian-built instruments in this price range, and at least as good as, say, a Korean G&L Tribute or Japanese or Mexican Fender at twice the price.
Reliability/Durability

Godin started off their electric division by building parts for other manufacturers, and it shows. The LG is a solid, no-nonsense, no-frills guitar built for the road. There are no frivolous parts to wear or break off, everything is well assembled, and it seems that it could take abuse almost as well as a Telecaster. You could make all necessary adjustments (neck, pickup placement and pole-pieces, bridge), with standard guitar tools.
One advantage of a bolt-on neck is that you can replace it if it breaks. That's true for the LG, but it's not as simple as for a Fender, since Fender-scale necks are easy to find anywhere. I can't speak for the real-world reliability of my LG, since I bought it yesterday, but it's still in fine shape despite obviously having been played quite a bit. Nothing is loose, buzzy, scratchy, or out of alignment. I don't expect any problems.
I'd always play a gig with a backup guitar, no matter how well built my main one was (easier to switch guitars when you break a string, after all). Then again, I'm a drummer in my real life, so I wouldn't need a guitar for a gig anyway, would I? If I were a gigging guitarist, this would be my main instrument. I've had my cheap Korean Strat for 15 years and it's still going (though it needs fretwork), so I expect the LG will last at least as long.

I've been a professional musician for 16 years, playing drums. I took classical guitar between the ages of 8 and 13 (1978-82), and have hacked around with guitars and basses ever since, plus some piano now that my young daughters are learning it. (Though I'm a drummer, I've always had more of an affinity for the technical details of guitars.) I have another electric, a bass, a classical guitar, a bunch of drums, various amps and effects, and a store room full of gear from the other musicians in my band.
As I mentioned before, I tried a lot of guitars before I bought this one, and it was by far the best value of all of them in this price range. I also preferred this particular guitar's feel and sound over that of the newer 22-fret LGHBs that I tried, including an LGHB prototype the store had for sale -- while apparently Godin customers requested the newer design, I prefer this one with 24 frets, so I was glad to find it. I would like if it had 5-way switching and a pickguard. But it is a usable, professional, versatile instrument that blows away other $350 guitars (and many $500-700 models) in quality. It's the real deal. I'd buy another. Heck, when I get more money, I may buy the P-90 version anyway!

This guitar was made in 1999 I believe. THis one is the Seymour Duncan p-90 version as opposed to the Godin humbucker model. TO be brief, the p-90's sound amazing and are very versatile. Its made out of a mahogony, body, mahogony neck, and rosewood fingerboard. The neck is a bolt on, but goes deep into the body and fits very tightly so the sustain is great. It also has a string-through bosy design which helps the sustain as well. The 24 fret 3/4 scale neck is very flat which maskes it very easy to solo with.

I play some blues, punk, and a little bit of metal, but mostly classic rock type stuff. This guitar sounds amazing, it has a huge variety of sounds and it sounds great with whatever style I am playing. On the distortion channel it sounds much fuller and heavier then a strat, but it's not quite as full as a Les Paul. This guitar sounds great for rythm and amazing for lead. Also sounds brilliant on the clean channel with warm jazzy tones or really bright tones if you want as well. My one small problem is that because of the p-90 pickups it can become a little bit noisy when played on the distortion channel other then that, its perfect.

The transparent red finish on the guitar is great. The action is very low but gives no buzz, I bought this guitar used so I'm not sure if the previuos user ajusted the factory set-up at all, but I didn't have to make any adjustments whatsoever after buying it except for a new set of strings (the previous owner had jazz strings on)

This is a very dependable guitar and even though I have knocked it continuously but after 3 years it still shows hardly any signs of damage, I use this guitar to jam with my band and have used it at three of four gigs and it has done superbly. From my experience, this guitar is as solid as a rock

OK, this guitar is beautiful. it has 1 vol knob and one tone knob. perfect for me. the neck is thin, and very easy for my fingers to move across. i could never play soildly on my old fender strat but as soon as i tired this guitar i was in heaven. I have had this guitar for seven months and since then i have been jamming hard out in gigs etc. I think the neck is one of the best features. The humbuckers are nice, interesting clean. it has a 5 way switch which i am changing to a 3 way, 5 way is to much for me. 22 frets. its kinda like a les paul shape. i bought it this year 2004, not sure when it was made. stays in tune =) solid mahogony body and neck, rosewood board.

I play rock/metal. umm this guitar is interesting when you play dirty. the sound is great if you used some bluesy overdrive. I used my boss metal zone thru a laney stack or my fender stage 100. This guitar is beautiful clean soemtimes and other times its not. Must be the weather or something. When i use my metal zone it pumps out the sound. i am going to change the humbuckers because i am just not happy with the sound. its good but not great.

The guitar is beautiful. The wood is great and action was done well. i have gigged this 5 times now. Here is my problem. The pots in the volume and tone knobs. They have crapped out on me twice. Once at my mate funnel (which wasnt good) and once when my band was trying out for a big gig. That was to flash. apart from that. no worries

First off id just like to say that this guitar was exatly waht i was looking for
I had been looking to buy a fender strat but i also wanted a guitar with
humbuckers. After shopping for months i was getting discouraged. And then i went in to the guitar shop to buy strings for my other guitar
(a piece of junk by the way) and i noticed this guitar hanging there.
i ask the guy about it and he said they just got it in so i played it
and that was that i bought it that day.
It has two humbukers with 5-way switching (it splits the buckers into singles) and they sound great!
it has a 22-fret rosewood neck its not as thin as some guitars but it fits just right in my hands
it has a mahogany body and a silky smooth satin finish the body is kind of like a les paul meets a telecaster the cutaway gives exelent access too the higher frets.
also included a deluxe Godin gigbag
Sound

This guitar is incredibly versitile and can get nice clean tones for Pink-floyd stuff or just as easily get a mean distorted sound for playing some metallica or black sabbath.
I play this guitar throgh a 50-watt Marshall G50R-CD
i use a Zoom 505II (a great effects pedal by the way)

tuners are a little touchey but you get a feel for them after a while.

Not sure of date made - bought it in 2002 - appears to be NOS - comes with the Godin humbuckers (not the Tetrads), not the covered Seymour Duncans that are now available. Nice red transparent finish - one vol, one tone, 3-way switch.
Mahogany body - somewhere in the range of Tele meets LP, mahogany neck, rosewood board, string-thru-body. Decent weight - not too heavy, not too light.
My first purchase after not playing for several years - one day of jamming turned into a spot in the band :)
Came with gig-bag, but I upgraded to a hardshell case.
Overall, a straight-forward kind of guitar. Also tried the P-90 version, but it wasn't quite the sound or feel - am not sure but the neck on mine has a slightly under-finished feel ... very comfortable.
Give it an 8 cause I'd like an extra vol and tone controls.

Sound? Does well in clean, slight gain, and distortion via my Fender Twin and thru an old Traynor I have. Use it with a Pro Co Rat, Danelectro Delay and Boss Chorus from early 80s.
This is one incredibly loud beast - have noticed it lacks the gradual volume my other guitars have. This guitar really wants to let loose as soon as you plug it in and turn it on. Have thought of adjusting this, but am too lazy to change it ;)It has some fullness, but also lets the mids and highs to push thru ... tube amps and a little bit of change with settings helps
Depending on the amp settings and what sort of dirt level is going on this guitar has sounds I like. Have traditionally been a Fender/G&L fan, but this is a very nice alternative - a great bang for the buck.
How does it compare to Fender or Gibson? It's somewhere in the middle ground between the two traditional giants of guitar sounds. I have made this thing HONK, ssscccrreeeaccchhhh, ROAR, purrrrrr and everything short of oinking like a pig :) - although using a Blue Box might just change that!
It lets me cover the fundamental sounds of 60s/70s rock; jazz; some country and even the occasional bit of disco-cheeze (never claimed to have good taste)
Action, Fit, & Finish

The shop where I bought this was very good about set-up, etc. Judging by the dust and hang-tag on it when I bought it, the guitar had been on display for a while.
Pick-up height was good - have only recently changed height of neck p/up after almost a year. Have left the bridge p/up at its original height as purchased.
Have not seen any major/obvious flaws. Is just a hint of paint on the neck - up near the nut. Hardware looks like it will be going strong for a long time. P/ups look like they are secure. 3-way switch still needs a little blast of air to clear out some dust.
Action, fit and finish are all more than adequate - it's all good. Have even used it for some occasional slide playing - I put a set of 10s on this and really got to have some fun.

I have used this on several occasions live. Always with a back-up - sometimes another Godin, sometimes an older Squire Strat from mid80s.
Strap buttons are solid - finish will last a long time - frets and board look like they are willing to endure some major abuse.

Sent a letter to Godin, hoping to get further information about 'their pickups'. Brochure I got back was about 'their pickups', but not about the partical type I have in my guitar. That's okay, cause I know this is one odd-little-beastie.
Have browsed the web-site, but wonder what it's worth 'cause they don't seem to post a lot of new information on it. Have also checked out a webpage for Godin owners - it seems to have some neat stuff.

Overall? This was a good instrument for me, considering I had not played for about 5 years. It was somewhat of an impulse buy - fortunately, it has turned into one of my favorites. I also have a hard-tail Strat, Am Dlx Telecaster, and an old G&L ASAT.
I first started playing when I was 13 - I am now 33. I like to make noise - sometimes it is all about finding good clean tones, sometimes it is just about getting the grind and dirt. This guitar let's me do this and have fun while I'm playing.
What do I like? It has a distinct look - it has good feel to the neck - weight is good - has some interesting tones available - an affordable alternative and it's not made in Korea.
Anything to share? Do some surfing on Net to find out all you can about these guitars if you are considering buying one. They have changed over the years since they were first introduced - make sure you know what you want and make sure you know what you are buying.
I like this guitar - it has become a very comfortable and reliable part of my return to playing and making noise. People have been fairly split on their comments - both positive for looks and for sound.

This guitar features a solid Mahogany body, single volume and tone controls, strat like 5 way toggle switch and 2 Seymour Duncan P-90's (These babies tear walls down). I choose 1 of 3 and got the one I thought looked best as far as wood grain was concerned and heavier weightfor better tone and sustain. This guitar is no cheap thrown togeather Korean axe that you buy your kid to beat up. It's well constructed, very smooth and cuts butter with it's sound.

The LG would be a nice guitar for any player who likes music from mellow electric, blues to metal and thrash with it's deep deep tones. I ran through a processor and was amazed at the different tones I was able to achieve with little or no effort. This guitar definately rocks...When I got my guitar the action was set a bit higher than I like so I adjusted and felt very comfortable with it. The playablity is amazing as I've played mostly maple fret boards for their hardness allowing excellent fretboard tapping. The LG was just as easy to tap as any wide necked electric I've ever played...

Again I had to set the action to my liking as I do with all guitars I buy but the LG I purchased had pertect fit and finsh from headstock to body. In my opinion this guitar and company will increase in value in the future.

There is a quite a story behind this Guitar. I bought this Guitar new in Nov, 2002. I fell in Love with the 24 ?? Neck and the Action was the best out of anything in the Store. The Guitar had 2 double coil pickups, which I was told by the salesman were Seymour Duncan. The sound was OK but of course I couldn?t do the crank test until I got it home. The pickups however did not have any branding that said Seymour on them they were branded with the Godin name. I asked the salesman about this and he told me that the pickups were Seymours made for Godin. He showed me the hanging tag that was in the hard case that it came with and the Tag stated that the pickups were specially selected by Seymour himself for this Guitar. The neck was an SH-2 and the Bridge was a special Custom Custom. So off I went thinking that is what I had. Well after getting the Guitar home and doing the crank test I was very disappointed with the performance of the pickups. I have played many Guitars for many years and these did not meet what I would expect from Seymour. I then did a lot of research on the net and found out a few things that were very disturbing about the Guitar. First off the Guitar was a limited test run that Godin made in 1998. The pickups were not Seymour and were made by Godin. After finding this out I felt I had been ripped. Since I saw the same Guitar the next weekend for a $100 less than I paid. This salesman told the truth and told me that they were a test run with double coils that was never put into production. That?s why all new LG have the SP-90?s. Godin does make the new LG signature with the SH-2 and Custom Custom Seymours but it is in the signature series and the neck is totally different.
My next step was to contact the Store where I bought it. This was Saturday and they told me that they sold lots of these Guitars and that I was wrong and they would call Godin on Monday to verify what they had said. Well knowing what the other store had told me I was kinda in shock by the way I was being treated. I called the local Custom Shop and got the private number for the Godin Techs. I called Godin first thing Monday and explained the whole thing and they agreed that I had not got what I was sold and they would look into it. About an hour later I received a call from the Vice President of Godin apologizing for all that had happened. He told me he had spoken to the Store that sold me the Guitar and that I was to return there with my Guitar and wasn?t to leave till I was happy.
I ended up getting exactly what I had thought I was getting. I now have a LG Custom, Solid Mahogany Body with One Piece Solid Mahogany Neck 24 ?? finished in Black Pearl with 2 Seymour?s a SH-2 on the Neck and a Custom Custom with an Alnico Magnet on the Bridge. This is hooked to a 5-way switch. Godin has told me that this is a one of a kind and have this documented in there database to match the serial number on my Guitar. It is the best playing and sounding Guitar that I have ever run across in my many years of playing.

Excellent Paint, I refinished the Natural Mahogany Neck myself with Poly 10 coats and it is a smooth as butter. The Neck is bolt on and fits the pocket tight. The pocket and neck had been masked and you could see by the signatures that it had been planed to pitch.

This guitar came pretty standard; black finish, seymour-duncan custom custom's. It has since been modded with the addition of an EMG 81 in the bridge and sperzel locking tuners. It has a 5-way selector for the pickups.

I currently play lead in a metal band which tunes to B, stylisticly I'd say similar to Gorguts, Arch Enemy, Opeth, At the Gates, Cephalic Carnage. I'm playing straight into an original 5150 head through a Mesa-Boogie Recto 4-12, and the tone is crunchy and brutal, but remains very defined for intricate chording as well as for soaring leads. Very warm and musical, oddly enough, as it is a very agressive sound.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:8
I have the string height very low, and yet there is very little fret buzzing. It's a testament to the workmanship of these guitars that with just an intonation adjustment, I'm able to play tuned to B with very few problems. I'm only using 10-48 gauge strings.
The one major problem I've encountered is that the stock bridge became corroded and required replacement. Not a big issue.

The finish is near perfect, no wear and tear. When the guitar is hit or dropped the finish will dent, but not chip or flake off. Very nice. I've used this baby without a backup live for years and I've never had one problem. The only major issue I've encountered is that the stock bridge became corroded and required replacement. Not a big problem.

The LG is the best investment I've ever made bar none. This is a professional quality instrument which suits me and my playing style perfectly.

I got this guitar from a Montreal Dealer. 24 fets, solid guitar, 2 Seymour Duncan humbuckers, a 3-way selector, a volume pot and a tone pot. No extra really, just basic electronics.
The LG is really in the Les Paul area, as for feeling than for sound.
Mine is dark red and came with the original case from Godin.
It took my 10/46 strings no problem.
I think newer LG's are coming out with a 5-way selector and a midrange pad switchable by pulling out the tone knob. I sure would have liked those features but after all I don't care, the simpler the better... right?

I was looking for a good overall, any style guitar. It's plugged thru a Soldano SP-77 preamp, a TC electronics G-Major FX unit and then into the return of the fx loop of my amp wich is a homemade copy of a JCM800, driving 2 EL34.
The sound is really rich! This guitar is soulful. Reminds me Queen's guitar sound. Both pickups are not muddy at all but real thick and chunky when in full bridge or full neck position. Almost too rich sometimes, but It's always easier to remove from you sound something you don't want than to add something you can't find. When in the middle position, it sounds more like a twangy strat. So I use it mostly in the bridge position ans switch from time to time into the middle poz to get a more tubbie strat sound.
I'm in love with this guitar! Perfect for old Genesis and clean stuff. Incredible with the clean chan of the soldano. But might be a little too round for a more heavy-Metallica-like trash. A bit more siffness would have been nice. But the trade-off is real sweet tone, infinite sustain and a addictive playability.
This is not really my style but I guess this guitar would do some real solid blues tones like santana and BB-King.
Although it's a full solid body, the resonance is almost one of an accoutic guitar or at least a hollow body. In fact you can ear the sound of the guitar even unplugged. Good wood conbination I guess.

Nothing to complain. Everything was perfect. Not a scratch, really clean and well assembled. The fret job is perfect. I personnaly got to raise the pickups out of their holes a little bit and to tune the bridge in matter of height and harmonic adjustment but that was really painless. No trussrod messing and action nightmare.Just one little thing, the jack get intermittent when you mess around with your guitar cable, but that sounds like the result of some kind of abus in the store before I came by. Anyway I'll tight the output jack connector tip and i'll be happy for life...

This is a 2002 Godin LG. The sticker on the headstock said 'assembled in america from parts made in canada'. 24 frets, 2 SD P90 pickups, 3 way selector, volume and tone controls. It is made from a three piece mahogany body with a mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard. The body looks vaguely les-paul like, but no arched top. Mine has a cognac burst finish. It is a string through body with a tune-o-matic style bridge/saddle. 3X3 tilted headstock. No idea what kind of tuners or nut but I like them both. It has a short 24 and 3/4 inch scale. Interestingly it doesn't have top ferrules on the string through body holes letting the strings bite into the wood a bit. I've seen earlier LG's that DO have these so I emailed Lasido about it. They said it was a design change recently and it was done to help dampen ringing and strange harmonics behind the saddles because the strings weren't dampened well enough. It seems to work fine.

I've been playing for almost fifteen years. I don't own much gear, just a peavey classic 20, a squier standard telecaster, an ibanez S540, and a tacoma dm8c. This latest purchase was after quite a bit of shopping. I wanted a fixed bridge guitar with a flat fingerboard, reasonably wide nut, vintage pickup selection, pretty and cheap. I also checked out Carvins, the cheap Gibson les paul studios and fadeds, a few different fender telecasters (i never got to play a G&L but after all i've read i still want one of these), a few other Godins, and a few others they had at guitar center. The local mom&pop store had an LG, which I immediately loved, but only one (the floor model) and in gold finish which I hate. So I kept my eyes open and picked it up for cheap on ebay. I have a lot of confidence in Lasido, my friend's Art and Lutherie acoustic is great, so it only marginally bothered me to buy it blind. It was worth it.
I had to change my picking style with this one. I've been playing a telecaster and an Ibanez before and hand placement is quite different on the tune-o-matic. Not harder, just different. Also the shorter scale changes bends and feel, and among other features seemed to add a lot of bottom end, so I spent a while playing with my sound.
This is a great guitar. I thought the price is great, and its simplicity and quality are very appealing. This will be my #1 electric for a long time.

This guitar does almost everything. It is increadible. I can play NoFX to Staind to Our Lady Peace with it. I play it with a boogie. I find that the guitar doesn't like lights with a dimmer switch and the guitar doesn't hum at all unless these stupid 40watt bulbs are around then it hums like crazy. I found that the stock pickups sounded fine through a solid state peavey amp but when I started trying out tube amps the gain sounded really growly and muddy. I asked my guitar tekkie what to do and he suggested putting in Seymour Duncan Alnico II pro pickups. I also had the guitar rewired to a 3 way switch which gives 2 awsome clean sounds. The new pickups give the guitar a tone very similar to a PRS standard with dragon pickups but not quite as bassy. Really amazing sound.

The action went out after I bought the guitar which makes sense considering that new wood is used in these guitars. I got the neck adjusted a couple of times and it has been fine since. The action is increadible on this guitar. Not quite as quick as a Gibson Les Paul but buttery and smooth. No Sammy Haggar solos so I guess I'm OK. Everything was in fine working order when I bought the guitar although there are a few battle scars which make the guitar look loved:D

I've been playing guitar as a second instrument (piano first) for 3 years now. If somebody stole my guitar I'd do something I'd regret later. Not another one like it. I love the versitility in sound, it does whatever I need it too. It is soft enough for wimpy rock and has the output/energy for metal. I like the neck feel. Buttery smooth. Easy to play. I compared it to Les Paul Custom, PRS Standard, Fender Strat. It sounded better then all of the above with the new pickups. Buy it from Canada and throw in the Alnico II pros. You won't be dissappointed

I bought the guitar in 1997. It's the older model LG, with the Godin Tetrad pickups.
If you've read the other reviews, you should know the basic specs of this guitar by now - 24 frets, Mahogany and Rosewood, 5-way selector with a push-pull filter (I've seen a few people refer to this as a coil tap, but my instruction leaflet says that it's a filter, rather than a tap - to be fair it does sound like a coil-tap), Schaller deluxe tuners.
Mine has a low-gloss natural finish, with a fixed bridge - simple but effective.
It came with a gig-bag, but I haggled with the shop owner and he agreed to sell me his only Godin hard case (I had to travel over 4000km to take it home, so a gig bag just wasn't good enough). This has proven to be an essential investment.
I also bought Jim Dunlop Strap-locks and fitted them the day I bought it. They've gone a bit rusty, but still work perfectly, and have never failed me.
I've given this category 9, as this guitar has everything I really need, and nothing I don't really need. (I'm not a Floyd-Rose fan)

Fits my style perfectly - I tried quite a few guitars out, but I knew from the second I picked this one up that it was mine.
I love my LG!
I can switch from ringing jangly chords, to soft jazzy sounds to full-on crunch with ease. When I play at home, I tend to lean toward chords with ringing open strings and eastern-sounding riffs. On stage it's usually hard rock/grunge, alternative stuff, although we've been known to throw in the odd country or bluesy thing now and then.
I usually play it through my JCM800, with usually nothing more than a simple distortion pedal and maybe a Wah. I occasionally use other effects, but on stage it's usually just the guitar and a distortion pedal to help drive the Marshall.
Even through my el-cheapo Samick practise amp, this guitar sounds great.
There's not much I don't like about the LG as far as sound goes.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
I was very happy with the way the guitar came off-the-shelf, but over time, a couple of small cracks have developed around the neck-join. These haven't affected the overall sound, and don't seem to have spread any further in the last year or so, so I'm not too worried by them.

I dropped the guitar (hard) a couple of years ago, and almost snapped the headstock clean off. I was devastated, but took it into Fremantle Fret Services, in Western Australia and the guy there re-joined and reinforced it, then finished the neck with a dark brown/natural sunburst.
It plays as good as ever, and I haven't had any problems since.
There are a couple of small dents in the body, but considering the punishment I've given the guitar, it's held up exceptionally well.
After using Strap-locks on this guitar for the last 5 years, I wouldn't do it any other way. I like to jump around a bit, and have dropped other guitars.
I would (and have) used this without a backup, but my experience has been that you can break a string at any time, no matter what guitar you're playing...

I couldn't get much assistance from the Australian distributor of Godin guitars when I broke the neck. They never returned my calls and kept giving me the runaround about getting hold of a new neck for me, so I ended up going to a "local" guy (only 2500km away, instead of about 6000km to the Aus. distributor - I live in the remote Northwest of Australia)

I've been playing (on and off) for about 14 years (I'm 29).
I also currently own an Ibanez 59er Les Paul copy, a Fender 12-string acoustic, an Ashton (cheap) active bass, a Marshall JCM800 2203 100 watt head and quad box, a Samick practise amp, Boss DS-1, Boss DS-2 with footwitch for lead channel, Boss phaser, very old Korg multi-effects unit (for practise only - too noisy for stage use).
If My LG were lost or stolen, I'd be heartbroken.
I would buy it again, but I'd also look at other Godins.
When I bought it, I wanted either a vintage Fender (way out of my price range), or something like an SG.
On the day, I chose between a Gibson "The Paul" - a very basic Les Paul model, an Ibanez Joe Satriani, a Patrick Eggle New Yorker (I think that was the model), an Epiphone Les Paul and a secondhand Strat. The LG was the one. None of the other guitars (except maybe the Patrick Eggle, which didn't have the balls of the Godin) felt right.

I bought it used a lil' while ago. The guy who sold it to me didn't know what year it was made but he said it was around 1993, 1994. pieces were made in Canada and it was assembled in New Hampshire (USA). The body is see-through cherry colour ( kinda woody red-brown ). The body's shape is somewhat between a les paul and a tele ( godin's shape). Strings pass through the body ( that had sustain) The body is made of three piece of mahogony. The neck is also made of solid mahogony. The fret board has 24 frets and is made of rosewood. Two godin humbuckers and the most important thing...this guitar has a kida 5 way selector plus a push-pull tone knob ( 10 sounds).

I play mostly punk and kinda heavy solos. But I also play blues. I'm currently using a "cheap" peavey studio pro. Hey man this amp is really not the best I've tried and my baby makes it sound AMAZING! I tried it with the metal zone of my friend and it sounded great. I used a marshall jcm 900 for some shows and it was simply superb. Thsi guitar is not noisy at all believe me! The pick-ups and sealed. Sicne I have it I'm always forgetting to close my amp. It's simply silent. I can get almost all sounds I want from it. From a nice twangy tele sound to powerful punk power chords. This baby ROCKS! It has it's own sound. through the marshall my godin sounded as good under heavy distortion than the gibbie of my friend and under clean channel forget it the les paul was eating the dirt! But still i'm probably gunna replace the godin humbucker by a seymour duncan JB or CUSTOM or simply an invader. Depends. The sound is rich and full. Thsi guitar is not sounding bright...it's just perfect. it's my first good electric and i simply love it! lets' go for a nice lil' 10!

the action is simply PERFECT! low enough without any fret buzz. It stays in tune pretty well... ( not a miracle but at least it's better than a les paul) after 7 years of used my baby has no scratch no marks no nothing it's simply amazing. the only thign is that the headstock doesn'T seem as nice as it was in the paast probably. the neck is great. Large, flat ( VERY FLAT) and well made for soloing. The only problem I had with it is that the jack to plug it has been destrcuted by the other guy. but still I just changed it and it's in perfect shape.

Made about 97, in Canada and the US, 24 frets, solid body H/H configuration, with five way switch, 1 volume, 1 tone. Seymour Duncan Custom Custom Custom bridge pickup (a Custom Custom that was supposedly wound different for this guitar) Jazz II neck pickup (a Duncan Jazz, again 'specially' wound for this guitar). It's a Bolt on mahogany neck/body with rosewood fingerboard and birdseye maple headstock veneer. Transparent red gloss finish, Godin LG body style (as mentioned earlier, sort of a Les Paul crossed with a fudgsicle). Tune-O-Matic Style bridge, strings go through body. Nice Schaller tuners. Thin, flat neck profile, with regular size frets i guess. Came with a case, and an allen key for adjusting the truss rod. The neck pocket is specially designed to be very tight fitting.
Sound

This is a fairly versatile guitar, because the humbuckers are splitted in the 2 and 4 positions of the 5 way switch... bridge pickup (bucker) is fairly raucous sounding, with a lot of mids and treble, but not a lot of bass; split single it sounds about the same only less output. Neck pickup sounds quite full, and is good for jazzy kind of stuff with the tone rolled down, or those extra full neck pickup kind of solos with the tone down and the mids and gain cranked on the amp (sort of brian may-ish). The neck pickup split to a single coil sounds pretty stratty to me, with a lot of bass and twang, and a glassy high end. The split neck pickup (position 2) is probably my favourite... sounds good clean and dirty, a good all around sound. The middle position, with both buckers engaged in parallel is very full and twangy sounding. This guitar is good for a generic rock sound or a pretty big 70s rock sound partially or fully distorted, and sounds good clean with the neck pickup (split or full) and/or middle position. It suits rock stuff fairly well, which I like to play, but i think i will change the bridge pickup out for a Duncan JB or Custom. I might try putting the bridge pickup in the neck position to see what it's like as well, because i have read (on this site) that the Custom Custom sounds good in the neck position. In addition to rock (Rush, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Meshuggah...) I also like playing (and listening to) Jazz, Classical, Hip Hop/R&B (Miles Davis, Beethoven, The Roots, Outkast, Erykah Badu, etc.) I think this guitar tries too hard to be an SG and a strat together. I think i would be happier with a strat and an SG (for electric guitars anyways) than with this guitar. Guitar Shoppe gave me a decent cord and a strap of my choosing (well, not a leather strap) Comes with a Godin Hard (sort of, not a gigbag anyways) Case
Action, Fit, & Finish
:5
The flat/thin/wide neck takes getting used to, but i like it now. A big problem with this guitar, i have heard, is that the bridge is not far back enough for proper intonation (which i have witnessed since trying to properly intonate it) so it needs a shim in the neck, therefore defeating the advantage of the super-tight fitting neck pocket/bolt-on design. There are two bad cracks in the finish (maybe wood as well) around the base of the neck pocket, possibly from the neck being screwed in too tight. The finish is nice and glossy on the body and headstock, and the satin finish on the neck (that gets nicer with time because of the oil from your hands) feels very nice. A big complaint of mine is that it is very obvious where the 3 pieces of mahogany that compose the body are joined. On the back side, the finish over the joints is lovely and smooth, but on the front, they were so badly joined (or inadequately sanded) that there are ridges going up/down where the pieces were joined, thus the top of the guitar isn't totally flat. Another problem with this guitar is that the pickup switch that comes with it is a dirty piece of junk. The switch is very sticky, and it is very picky as to which position it is in... the action is not 5 fluid clicks into place, it sort of scrapes and sticks in each place. After 2 years of use, the switch is now not as sticky, but just as finicky to get into the place you want it. It needs to be replace ASAP IMHO. The tuners and volume/tone contols are very smooth and nice however.
Reliability/Durability
:8
Overall, this guitar seems very durable, with the exception of the switch and the fact that the strap buttons are horribly small and unsuitable. The strap frequently comes off at the upper bout because the strap buttons are so small. This guitar needs straplocks or at least better strap buttons. The finish is very thick and durable and glossy. I would gig with it without a backup as i have no other electric guitar right now. I only really use it to play by myself or with a couple friends (though I have played "gigs" a couple of times)

I have been playing guitar for more than 4 years now i believe, and the only other gear I own is a Norman (same parent company as Godin) B50 Acoustic guitar, a fender blues jr. amp and an ehx Small stone phaser pedal. I think this guitar is a good deal for the money, because it is fairly durable and the electronics can be modified to make it sound better, as the structural and aural integrity of this guitar is quite good i think, other than the shoddy switch/pickup config. I love that it's all mahogany and made mostly in Canada, and entirely in North America. It's versatile. I wish it had one of those beautiful maple tops and a piezo bridge like the LGXs have, then with a pickup swap i would have the only guitar i'd really need, +). They don't make LGs like this anymore, but if it was stolen i probably wouldn't get another one. I'd probably buy an SG special or a G&L S-500 or ASAT (probably used, they're a bit more money than this one.

It's a 95 I beleive.. made in Canada. It's a 24 fret, solid body, simple beautiful guitar. They switched to seymore duncan pickups in the new models that aren't nearly as nice as the godin tetrads that I have. Some times change is done just for changes sake and in this case they should have left well enough alone

The guitar has such a wide variety of tone that it can suit any style of playing, which suits me just fine as I have a very diverse style..
you can play the dirtiest, meanest sound with a great heavy tone, or you can pull out the coil tap and have a nice light tone.. great guitar!

1996 Godin, Black Mahogany Body, Mahogany Neck.. Nice nice guitar.. Stop tail piece, and thru body strings.. Bone nut, or plastic ? Looks like Bone to me, and with the components on this guitar I'm guessing it's bone.. Tele like body shape, singel cutaway.. Godin Tretrad pickups which are pretty damn good.. Hard shell case..24 frets.. Made in Canada, and assembled in the US I do believe.. I wrote Godin and they told me the Year, date it was manufactured, how many guitars were made that week, etc..etc.. Oh, almost forgot.. Came with allen wrench for the truss rod, instructions, etc.. I got this guitar as new old stock on a trade, and it's mint.. Came set up perfect with the 9's but I put 10's on it.. as I like them better.. they really make this thing sound like a killer guitar.. It has a Gibson scale length which makes it play so much easier to than a strat or typical bolt on guitar.. This is like a custom Tele, or what a Tele should be..
Sound
:9
This guitar rocks.. This thing is it's own guitar but it reminds more of a Gibson than a Strat except for it's bolt on neck.. This thing plays great.. Nice action.. I did have to change strings and adjust the bridge and truss rod for the set of 10's I stuck on it, as it had 9's which really suck... what's up with the standard of using 9's for an electric guitar? They suck..They just sound so weak! I love the sound of this thing, but it sounds a tad to weak compared to a gibbie, but much better than a strat, etc.. This guitar sustains forever for a bolt on.. They really took some time to put this thing together.. It rocks.. I gave it a 9 just because it had a set of 9's otherwise it would be a 10 for sure..
Action, Fit, & Finish

Action was good when I got it, except I don't like 9's... No flaws, the quality of the pieces on this guitar is just astounding for the price.. You can't go wrong with this one!

I would never jam without a backup in case your break a string, but this guitar looks well built and I don't think anything will go wrong with it at all.. Very solid it seems. When I first got this guitar I was going to use it for trading material, but now I'm going to keep it I like it so much!
Customer Support

They are great.. I wrote them and asked about the guitar and they are sending me a manual free and told me when it was made, etc.. I asked and they emailed me right back.. Can't complain at all considering I didn't buy the thing new.. Great guitar company.> can't go wrong..

This is a great guitar.. If you want a good all around guitar without spending a fortune and you find one of these used, I would highly suggest you check them out.. They just have everything that you could want in a guitar.. Reminds me of the EVH guitar from Peavey only better built, as they mount the pickups directly in the body, etc.. Just all around great stuff.. Bridge says made in West Germany, shaller kluson tuners, etc.. Just great components and playability.. This guitar has a neck to die for.. I mean thin thin thin, and it's so easy to get pinch harmonics, and to get that singing tone that sounds like SRV on steroids with a Gibson..hehehe..

Mine has Seymour Duncans in it. A JazzII in the neck and a Custom Custom at the bridge. 5 position switch. Year of manufacture has been identified by the factory as Jan 97. I think I'm going to have to verify that with the Godin people as I believe the LG's built then all came with Tetrads. I believe this one is a year or two newer than that.

When I was in the market for a new guitar I went out with an open mind. The one that had the quality, played and sounded the way I like and had the right price was the one I was going to get. What brand it was was of no concern to me. The SD's are terrific, exactly what I wanted. The jazzII is clean and articulate. The Custom combined with the switching options seems to be whatever you want it to be, very versatile. I'm using a Peavey Classic50 with 4- 10"s in it as well as a new Twin.

This guitar was purchased new although it had been hanging on the rack for a year or two. Obviously, it needed some truss rod adjustment, nothing serious, Stays in tune no matter what I do with the thing when I'm playing it. Very clean, understated, no glitz appearance. The sound says it all-no cosmetics required to make up for poor construction or playability. This is a point I find especially impressive with this guitar

I got a Godin SD that is an exceptional guitar at an exceptional price to replace the Strat's and my LG replaces the LPaul's. Both Godins cost less than one Les Paul A 3 position switch aka Les Paul would be something I'd like on the LG

1996 methinks. Made in Canada. 24 fret 24 ?" Scale. solid body baby (yeah!) volume, tone w/mid cut boost. Pick up config: 2 humbuckers, Godin Tetrad ceramic magnetic pickups (passive) 5 way selector. Mahogany neck, Indian Rosewood finger board, Mahogany body, Schaller Tune-O-Matic style bridge and i think schaller machine heads? I only give it a 9 coz the LGX and stuff has the acoustic transducers and stuff. (But hey, it's also more than double the price!)

I play rock, metal, alternative indie pop what ever, churchy stuff, mellow stuff, ambient stuff, jazzy stuff, funky stuff, full on aggressive noise stuff. this guitar is completely versatile. you truly must hear this giutar through a decent tube amp, it absolutely shines. this can go from a thin stevie ray twang to full thick fat crunch and beautiful sparkly stuff. Seriously everything. If you can't find a decent sound from one of 10, yes 10 pickup combinations, then you have either super fussy anal-retentive taste or no taste at all. Kicks ass over guitars 3 or four times it's price.

Action and intonation needed looking at a bit, and i have since gone to heavier 11s. Pickiups were perfect. Perhaps finish wise the only thing i find strange is the finish one the neck doesn't fully cover the top ei its about 1 mm off in some spots. my godin is a low gloss black, so the the sound wouldn't be super dulled by heaps of laquer. i prefer the look. The bridge is also quite sharp and has required lube and filing to stop breaking so many strings. I've lost count of the times i have broken a D or G mid song. Also the pick up switch was a bit dirty, needed cleaning and lubricating.

I am fairly energetic on stage, this giutar seems to hold up. the tuners are top notch, really hold well. would i gig without a back up? I do, but only coz i can't afford another. But i always have a spare guitar around incase of broken strings, even if its the cheapy jap strat copy.

Everyone who plays it has commented on how amazing it is, people dig the sound. I fully love the look of it too. the shape is sorta more like a gibson, but feels better balanced than gibsons in my opinion. if she goes, i'd definetely get another, maybe go up to the LGX if i ahd the cash. i shopped around heaps. This guitar holds its own against jus about everything. Truly inspirational. Sound, feel, weight, looks, comfort, playability, versatility. This has it all. Gibsons do not. Tele's do not. Strat's do not. Godin LG's do.

Gorgeous simplicity... Les Paul style all mahogany solidbody w/ bolt-on mahogany neck/rosewood fingerboard made in Canada/New Hampshire? sometime in '98 (had to wait two months for a backorder sight unseen) 24 frets, volume tone fiveway, two seymorduncan hums... custom custom bridge, jazz neck, both direct mounted to body, string thru body design running 10 guage regulars over a tun-o-matic to sperzel locking tuners, deep reddish stain... a beautiful and classy looking bare bones guitar.
Sound
:9
I play hardcore, indie, and pop rock with this guitar going direct into a Mesa Dual Rectifier and 4x12 halfback cab. Doom. The sound is super thick... bridge pickup sings and bites and the neck is warm and chunky. It seems as though this setup over resonates on palm muted e thru f# and a chords... strange? As I turn up amp volume (full gain and presence) the guitar feeds back like a bitch (possibly too much boogie goodness combined with a wierd resonance factor between wood/pickups/etc?) I am probably going to switch over to Dimarzio pickups in time (tone zone bridge, air zone or air norten neck) and see what that does for me. The high e also sounds a bit dull to me.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
The action was so/so on arrival, but the dopes where I bought the guitar set the tune-o-matic on upside down and filed out the hige e groove to accomodate the low e (thankfully no real side effects). I've been having some problems with the intonation, but seeing as how my intonating skills are somewhat lacking, we'll see what a pro can do to remedy the situation. The volume pot has recently been a little noisy, but it's no big deal for me to replace it. A couple of the sperzels were a little loose in their mecanisms and one had a bur on the threading of the locking rod which had to be disassembled and filed for it to work properly. Everything else was satisfactory although construction was not anal.

Yes this thing works live, and gets all kinds of looks and comments from the crowds. It seems very reliable to me and I actually do play it without a backup. I can see some wear in the finish from the pick scraping it, but I haven't really tried to clean it up. Strap locks are holding up fine on the stock buttons so far. I can forsee some sort of electronics overhall in the future, but again, that is something I wouldn't mind doing.

This guitar has a solid body with a bolt-on neck. It has 24 frets, 5 way switch, two humbuckers (godin Tetrad), a fixed bridge, indian rosewood fingerboard and a coil split. My favorite spec is that the stings are comming right through the body (no tailpiece) so the resonance is pretty exceptionnal. It is all made out of mahogany. The one I bought didn'T came with a case, had to buy a cheap gig bag because of the lack of funds!!!! So I give it a 9, because it would have been a 10 if it had a case.

This guitar suits my style like a glove (jazz, fusion, blues, sometimes rock). Although it can somehow rock, it is not a Ibanez or a Jackson. This guitar is made to sing! It sounds relatively perfect with a tube screamer or clean in a tube amp. To discribe its tone, I'd say that it's fat, sustainy, rich, well balanced and it sings like an angel!!

I've been playing for 6 years and I've been using a fender strat(American) for 3 years. THe LG is by far different, almost the complete oposite. I've tried many gibsons, fenders, ibanez and this one is the best axe I ever tried (on the humbucker side). The new gibsons are made to play heavy metal, and I wanted an axe that could sing, with humbuckers. Now I gotta go, cause I can't wait to plug it in and play like if it was the first time!!!!!

8/10 I got this guitar in '95 about 3 months after Godin introduced it. Thre are some features that it is lacking, that were added later. It has different pickups than current models and it came with strat-style volume and tone knobs (which I have since replaced) that were somewhat slipery. They also made the pull-pot used for the mid-cut hard to use. I do like the 34 fret fingerboard, the short scale neck (24 3/4") and the fact that the neck is slender and the fingerboard is really flat. I was a little dispapointed witht eh tuning machines. They are a little gritty and not very durable (I'm a clutz). The guitar has splitcoil pickups
Sound
:8
8/10 I really like the way this guitar sounds for my music (punk-pop, alterna-rock), but it lacks versitility for usuable tones. I use a Marshall Valvestate 8280 with it and the distortion is unbelievable, but on lower gain settings it tends to sound a little blah. I use an Aliesis Nanocompressor with it and have found that it adds a lot to the quality of the tone, especially the clean tone.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:6
The guitar was set up well by the factory, but I have some major concerns in this department. The finish on the neck disappeared after about 3 months. Imporvements have been made on later models though. My brother owns an LG that was made in '96 and he hasn't had the same problem. Perhaps the biggest problem is a flaw in the nut, taht puts the high E string too close to the edge of the finger board. It tends to slide right off the side when I'm playing. That problem, also, doesn't exist on my brother's ax.
Reliability/Durability
:6
As much as I love the way this guitar sounds, I have to say it's a little lacking here. I've had problems with solder joints breaking inside, rendering bridge humbucker useless until I got inside to do the repair. It has also got a lot of scratches and dents. It doesn't take well to banging around. My stap locks also wore through the strap pegs, so I had to replace those.

I really love the way this guitar sounds and plays, but there ares some flaws in workmanship. I think I would buy it again if it were stolen becasue I've never heard another guitar in its pricerange with tone as good as it has. I've been playing for over 5 years and This guitar kicks the butt of almost every other electric I've ever played (tone wise) except for a '63 SG, but I think that's a little out of my price range. The flaws that i have found seem to be unique to my particular model. They're probably due to the fact that I got one of the first guitars of this model off the line. Lots of improvements have been made since.

WOW! I play a little blues and a little metal, and this guitar does them both perfectly... I am really impressed with it. My setup includes a crybaby, a Peavey classic 30 (with extension cab) a Zoom 505 DOD Death metal and Metal maniac and a Boss G7 eq. personally I find it noisy, opening the control cavity I noticed there is no sheilding. AT ALL!!!! so that will beo ne of the first things I change about the ax. otherwise, rich sustaining tones all round. the neck and bridge being my faves I don't find too much use for the mid cut, I find it cuts a little too much off the top and gets too bassy for my Ideals... but I like a bit of scooped midrange tone...

-First Impressions- The first thing you'll notice about this guitar is its uniqe shape and styling. The headstock resembles that of a Seagull acoustic guitar (Also from Godin) and gives you a straight-string-pull from the bridge to the tuners. You'll also notice the unique pickups set down into the body of the guitar. Also, the strings are strung thru the body. All of these things along with Godin's unique neck joint and thick rosewood fretboard creates the Godin LG's seemingly infinate sustain and incredible sound.
-Pickups- I can't very well describe the technology of the Godin Tetrad pickups. I'll leave that to Godin. Check out their website at www.LaSiDo.com. I can, however describe the sound... well almost.. (You REALLY have to play this guitar to know what I'm talking about.) The sound is full, rich, fat, sustaining, etc.. etc.. This guitar pumps out probably the best tone of ANY guitar I've ever played. Simply put, these pickups "kick booty!" Hooked up to a good tube amp, you'll find yourself locked in amazement at the guitars full- sound and unique tone. There isn't another guitar on the market that sounds like this one, folks. Trust me. Godin knows this and thats what they had in mind when they designed this guitar. They designed it from the ground up to be revolutionary, and it IS!
-Controls- The Godin LG is equipped with a 5-way selector switch and a push-pull tap to activate the onboard midrange EQ which drops the mids -8db for an incredible strat-like or tele-like tone. (I personally don't use this much because I am more interested in this guitars native sound, but its nice to know its there) Therefore, essentially this guitar has a whopping TEN different pickup configurations. You can even activate all four coils at once for a VERY full-sound.
Note: The tuners on this guitar are made by Schaller and are Kluson-style. These are very good tuners - better than Gibsons.
Sound

See above.
Action, Fit, & Finish

-Feel/Materials- The Godin LG is made from one of the best and most resonant woods you can use on a guitar. The WHOLE guitar -except for the rosewood fretboard- is mahogony. This wood is one of the key elements in the LG's tone. The tuners are Les-Paul style and are made by Godin's Seagull division. The bridge is a Gibson-style tune-o-matic. The electronics are ALL Godin and ALL new designs. This guitar feels incredible in your hands. The neck is so precision you have to play it to believe it. The neck is wide/thin and has medium-jumbo frets. The neck has 24 frets. The fingerboard is EXTREMELY flat and allows for some incredible bends. The fingerboard takes a little getting used to at first... I found myself bending notes right off the neck! The scale and design of this guitar makes the strings feel REALLY loose and light under your fingers. The action is INCREDIBLE! You'll find your fingers FLYING on this guitar with little or no warm-up.
Reliability/Durability
:6
The five-way pickups selector is going out on me after having it a little over a year. This hasn't been heavily used, either. I think that Godin didn't use a very good switch.
Otherwise, no problems with the guitar The Schaller Kluson-style tuners seem real durable and the volume/tone controls are solid. The finish seems good and the strap buttons are very solid.

-Overall- I've never played a more precision or versatile guitar. This guitar looks great, plays great, feels great, sounds great, and doesn't cost much. If I could only have one electric guitar, this is the one I'd choose. This precision instrument allows you to focus MORE on creating and LESS on fighting with your guitar. I LOVE it. I've played a lot of guitars and I consider this one exceptional. One of this guitars greatest features is its low price. This guitar is handmade in the USA and includes a high-quality custom hardshell case. It is available in satin-natural and high-gloss finishes. Go check one out. You'll like it!

I bought this guitar just a month or two ago, just out prowling for an electric axe to go with the acoustic I've been thrashing on.
You may have heard about the LGX; this is the same thing without the fancy maple top and acoustic output jack/mixing knob.
I didn't try out very many different guitars. I kinda fell in love with this one and made an Impulse Purchase. Since then, I've played a number of guitars in various price ranges and have not found one I like better. This is an outrageously great instrument, especially considering how cheap it was.
It's Canadian made. The whole thing is mahogany, except for the rosewood fretboard and a thin curly-maple laminate on the headstock (the one dumb thing Godin did on this guitar was that maple veneer. It took the stain differently than the mahogany and it looks funny up there.) Mine is stained a rich red color and has an elegant, understated look -- the fretboard markers are tiny dots along the left hand side of the fretboard, not huge squares of mother-of-pearl. The knobs are simple black metal, and the pickups are those elegant looking blade jobs (Tetrads, they call them. Four coils in each, and there are two of them -- that's 4 humbuckers, arranged HH-HH.)
Body style is kind of like a combination of a Les Paul and a Telecaster, but more contoured. Single cutaway, no rhythm switch up top; it's got a 5-position Strat-style switch which, alas, doesn't split the humbuckers. It also has an on-board mid-range EQ dampening switch which they claim causes it to emulate Telecaster or Stratocaster sounds. Well, it doesn't. But it comes close enough for shemps like me. (I dunno. Maybe I'm just not amped right.)
It's a solid hunk of bookmatched mahogany, so no special tops or anything, and it's flat on top. Strings are strung thru the body. Tuners are non-locking, work fine, I don't remember who makes them.
And finally, the neck. Oh my God. The thing is like, less than an inch thick, I mean really FLAT, and wide. I have touched nothing that plays quite like it. (But I've led a sheltered life.) It's got 25 frets, so you can really make it squeak.
They're available in gloss colors, white and black and a few others I think, but I just love how the wood looks!
Sound
:9
I don't have a music style yet. I'm developing one, but right now I'm dabbling in all sorts of things, from bluegrass to blues to heavy metal. The versatility of the sounds you can get out of this guitar is a real plus to me. I have a Korg AX300G which I plug it into; I use this box to make it sound like a Tele and play bluegrass on it; I crank up the gain and play the Shemps National Anthem ("Smoke on the Water"); etc. I can get incredibly full sound out of it with all 4 pickups going, which is nice for trying to play along with old Boston albums.
I do have one complaint; the Tetrads don't seem to be well shielded, and occasionally will respond to electronic equipment like TVs by developing a hum. I have not yet figured out what causes it, but it's barely noticeable anyway. That occasional hum is the only reason I'm not giving it a 10 in this category.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
There is not one flaw on this guitar. Quality control is excellent. And you have to look very closely at the bookmatching of the mahogany body to realize that it is not a solid, 14-inch-wide slab of wood. No complaints here.
The body-to-neck mating is exceptional, by the way. Maybe that's why this thing sustains like it does. It does, by the way, have awesome sustain.
I've already commented on the action. I'm sure some of you guys with the $10,000 Dragons and Les Pauls would think it was crude and clumsy, but to me it plays like butter.
Reliability/Durability
:No Opinion
Stumps me. I've only had it a couple months. It *looks* solid as a railroad tie, but ask me again in a year. The finish is solid and although there is no pickguard, I've nailed it a couple times with 1.4 mm. picks and I can't see a scratch in it, so it is tough!

I'm a recent convert; used to play wind instruments, but got into guitar last December. I also play an Ibanez AG300 acoustic cutaway; that's pretty much it for me.
If this guitar were stolen, jeez, I hate to think about it. I would probably buy another just like this one, although I might scrape together a couple more shekels and buy an LGX instead (same guitar with a curly maple top and six saddle transducers (one for each string) providing acoustic output as well.) Either way, I would get another Godin. No question about it.
I compared this guitar to an Aria Pro 40th Anniversary Les Paul knock-off; an Ibanez Joe Satriani Special; another Ibanez double-humbucking humdinger; a US Masters Strat knock-off; and a bunch of under-$300 jobs like Peavys and Lotuses. Also a Japanese Telecaster (which I had a hard time resisting.) I picked this one because it is more versatile, with the Strat Emulation Switch and 8 on-board pickup coils. It also just plays better, what can I say?
I know there are better-sounding, smoother-playing guitars out there. But I'd be willing to bet they all cost twice as much as this one does. Nothing I've handled comes close.
