Made in 1999, Manchester UK, it has 22 frets. It has a flamed maple laminated top, finished in red sunburst. It has one pick-up (similar to a music master with a split selector switch). The electronics are passive, the pickup is made by Gordon Smith's.
The body is a modern small design, with a bird's eye maple neck (the same wood is used on the 20th Anniversary model), fitted with a brass nut. The tuners and bridge are black Gotoh and also the control knobs are black.

The sound is exactly as I like, the controls and split selector gives a lot of variation from just one pickup. It's powerful too !!
I currently play it through a Trace Elliot stack with a 2x10" cab and a 15"
Action, Fit, & Finish

As I got it directly from the factory, the action was set for me, which is quite close, something Gordon Smith's guitars usually feature.
There are a few flaws, but as someone else said they don't cost #2,000.
It is also very light weight compared to a lot of basses which is a bonus if you are stood playing live for a period of time !!

I've used this as my first choice bass now since it was finished, playing both live and in the studio.
The laquer is probably not as good as earlier models but it's not got many scratches yet. The strap buttons are quite large, I have fitted Dunlop strap locks and the strap has remained secure.
I have used it live without back-up but sometimes I take my Gordon Smith flying V bass as well, as you can now tell I love Gordon Smith Guitars !!

I have been playing in bands for over 25 years, and owned a Gordon Smith since 1978, I would recommend them to anyone.
