Specs. are same as below, although not exactly sure what wood the body is made from. It's a left handed model from 1998 serial no. is in 7900's. The finish is what I would describe as Midnight Blue and has a quilted top; not usually my type of thing but I like this.

The Gordon-Smith website is decent enough for getting all the specs. (www.gordonsmithguitars.com) so I won't go into details, but there's not much more I would want on a guitar.

Sound : 10
I play all sorts of rock music, and play this guitar through a Marshall DSL401. The tone is great. It can go from super bright strat to a boxey Les Paul sound on the coil tapped bridge and same on the neck. Sounds nice and full clean with the volume knob rolled back.

The only negative I find with the sound is that the output of the humbuckers isn't that high; my tele with a mini Seymour Little'59 has a bigger output. Then again that is why I have it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Bought second hand and was set up very well. Action is perfect all the way through. I've experimented adjusting everything but it's great the way it is.

The finish is nice, but a couple of smudges in the quilted top. The back of the guitar is a really nice piece of wood and the blue colour goes all the way up the back of the neck.

The only thing i dont like is that there is a small plastic part between the base of the neck and the neck p/up which looks quite ugly and isn't that well cut or designed. I'm sure it covers up something, but it could look better.

Reliability/Durability : 10
The only thing I have done is tightened up the machine heads a bit. Everything else is solid. Gordon-Smith are legendary for durability.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing 5 years, this is as nice to play as anything i've played before. There's currently a 6 month wait for these guitars to be built and lefties are quite rare but I think it's worth the wait.

Handmade in Manchester in 2002, 22 Frets, double cut, semi solid version of the Gypsy model in cherry red. Imagine a flat top double cut Les Paul witch f-holes and you got it. It features a mahogany neck and centerblock. The body is made of birch and spruce (as far as i know). Two of GS' own humbuckers with coil-splits. The neck is quite fat, making the guitar a bit neck-heavy, but once you got used to it it's no problem.

Sound : 10
I play punkrock, indie and some 60's surf music. Using a Fender Bassman Head and a rat distortion pedal (i really need a reverb pedal though) this guitar suits my needs perfectly. It has an enormous sustain, much more than my good old GS2 and although it is a semi-solid construction it definitely rocks. You can get some feedback problems when using high gain distortion, but i don't go for those sounds anyway. due to the coil-splits it offers six different sounds and i assure you, they are really different. from a strat-type single coil sound to a warm jazzy humbucker, it's all there. the semi-solid construction gives the guitar an absolutely amazing sound in clean mode. compared to my GS2, it sounds more complex and kinda room-filling, while the GS2 has a bit more "bite" when played with overdrive. The Gypsy doesn't sound very aggressive, i would describe the sound as warm and fat. there's nothing i dislike about it so far...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The guitar set-up was good, although i modified it a bit to suit my needs. Action is not as low as on some older GS guitars including my GS2, but playability is great once you got used to the guitar. no flaws, excellent work.

Reliability/Durability : 10
i've had it now for a few months, but GS guitars are always built to last.

Customer Support : 10
I have dealt with the company once and they were very helpful.

Great Guitar, i would buy it again if it was stolen. GS raised the prices recently but i think they're still a good value and definitely better than Epiphones or other guitars in that price-range. i'd even say they are better than Gibsons (at least than the lower-priced ones), but be sure you find "your" GS, as they are hand made and thus all a bit different.
