Archtop
Black & Cream colored Body

Sound is really unbelievable....Plays like Butter....not alot of features but you really don't need them....It's been played thru several 1963 Gibson Skylarks, Gibson 15" Hawk, Gibson 63 Falcon, 2009 Bogner & several Fenders.
Easy to play, especially chords This is my favorite guitar and would not trade or give it up for anything else....a very overlooked guitar in my opinion. Played daily...never had a problem, solid as a rock.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Guitar is as solid as it was in 1957...no complaints

Reliability/Durability : 10
Gig with this guitar mostly....very dependable..never had a problem

Warranty long ago expired

Playing close to 20 years...if ever lost or stolen I would cry and then try to find another one. About 1960 the pickup & truss rod color was changed to a cheaper pickup and a red truss rod cover....no comparison I feel to the earlier pickup Gretsch originally used.

Gretsch 6115 Rambler 1957 Left Handed Special sn25779 Bamboo top, black back and double bound sides.
The Rambler is a 3/4 scale, made in america archtop w/ a single cutaway, single neck pickup, and has one volume and one tone knob. This was made in 1957. Inside, on the label is written in pencil for the model- " Special Left "' '59 was the last year the guitar had a DeArmond pickup and a florentine cutaway. After that they had "Gretsch Hi-Lo-Trons" and a rounded cutaway. The floating rosewood bridge is held down by the strings. Adjusting the intonation took a little work- you have to sort of gently knock this piece into the right angle each time you change the strings.
The guitar was made of some pretty nice plywood, and mine was in excellent condition- it felt extremely solid.

Sound is sweet. Fingerstyle is best. This puppy is great unplugged or electric. Short scale makes it very stretchy. Would not call it bright. Runs like a fine watch. No issues, binding is perfect, one inlay dot missing.( Inlay is the only thing shrunk.)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Action is low and smooth, no buzzing. Pickup works fine. All workmanship is outstanding. I have not been able to find another Rambler in Left Hand, and think thid to be a one off, hand built guitar. Wuold like to find another Rambler, because they are nice guitars.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This is played a lot. It is holding up just fine. Fingerboard is getting dug in, frets are 75%. Finish is like new. Very dependable guitar. OHSC is also as near mint as they get. Low mileage axe, and will be respect for which it commands. This one goes with me to the grave.

I own a D-42, Baby Taylor, 1990 Les Paul Std, PRS Private Stocks numbers 161,162,and 163, to mention some. All are Left Handed. I rank the Rambler as a very fitting member of the stable. All pieces are in my wine vault, but the Rambler stays bedside...Again, I am wondering if anyone has a righty...

The Rambler is a 3/4 scale, made in america archtop w/ a single cutaway, single neck pickup, and has one volume and one tone knob. They were made I believe from '57 to '61 or '62. '59 was the last year the guitar had a DeArmond pickup and a florentine cutaway. After that they had "Gretsch Hi-Lo-Trons" and a rounded cutaway. (I've heard that the hilotrons are really really bad pickups- this was a lower-end model to begin with- so they downgraded to these) I had a '59. The bridge was just a floating piece of wood held down by the strings. I played semi-hard and never had any problems with it moving, although I imagine it could be a problem. Adjusting the intonation took a little work- you have to sort of gently knock this piece into the right angle each time you change the strings.
The guitar was made of some pretty nice plywood, and mine was in excellent condition- it felt extremely solid.

I played mine through a new Fender DeVille and loved it. It sounds great clean and on slight to mid-overdrive.(treble and presence up, mid up and bass a little down) I never put any reverb on it- it sounds big enough already. The DeArmonds have serious mojo. I like to play slightly slow, swampy, country tinged rock, and it was perfect for this. The neck doesn't play fast- but I like to have something to fight against (the strings are not loos-ey goos-ey)- and I occasionally play some hard and fast riffs. You have to watch out for feedback at high volumes- but when you crank this thing you fell like you've lassoed a tornado!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
This guitar is not for everybody. It's not for shredding. It's great for chords and simple rock-riffs. But again- mine was super solid and durable. I never had any electrical problems- and everything was original.

Reliability/Durability : 8
The paint is very durable except on the red truss-rod cover- which is a beautiful artistic touch- be careful when cleaning this- I accidentally rubbed some of mine off.

A while ago- my absolute worst nightmare came true- It was stolen from my apartment in Providence Rhode Island. I've been on a serious quest to get it back- and there's no-one less helpful or more irresponsible than the Providence police Department.

I just want to find a new one with a Dearmond P'up. If you have any idea where I can get on I'd love to hear from you ASAP.
