22 fret ebony neck with filtertron pickups, gold leaf finish on black gloss, has a floating bridge to give many setup options, locking tuners bass and treble boost, bridge and neck pickup selectors (with combined) and another switch that gives treble or bass boost, oh and a bigsby as well... more gizmos than you can shake a stick at.
It looks very similar to a classic les paul shape. black and gold, simple but very stylish.

This is where the guitar stakes its claim, this particular model has a very distinguished sound, but is also very adaptable to encompass different sounds. on the front pickups, the sound is very warm and rich and plays out a ringing clear tone, sounds very good in rhythm style play. Switch to the neck pickup and you really let the beast out, played with gain the sound will have you smiling, it is quite simply the most enigmatic and dynamic sound i have ever gotten from a guitar, best used for individual notes but it still packs a snarl playing chords.
I play alot of blues based rock, but with alot of other influences thrown into the mix. I've been playing this guitar for nearly a year now and i can say that this guitar can really handle anything from zeppelin, to the beatles, to music like slint, it sounds very good in replicating that mid 80's - 90's shoegazer sound. The only thing it isnt perfect for is high treble metal as it tends to get drowned out by more dedicated metal guitars but with an overdrive pedal it can manage more progressive music with high sustain.

I got this guitar second hand, to be honest it was setup awfully, the strings choked out anywhere above the 13th fret, but after i took it home and sorted that out, the guitar played beautifully in that area. There is a slight amount of fret-buzz on the low E string when played around the 12th fret but it doesnt amplify too much. The action round the top end of the fret board is fine and it isnt any more difficult to play at that point than at any other on the guitar.
For a second hand guitar the finish has aged very well, the gold plating has begun to fade slightly, and there was a small nick out of the top of the guitar but the black gloss stood up to alot of work without looking bad at all.
In terms of the hardware, everything was in good working condition, the frets are all correctly aligned and the headstock was very well made, the turning pegs were very consistent and tight and the bigsby worked well and didnt de-tune the guitar like it has been purported to.
I'm rating it a 7 based on its used condition, a bit of the aesthetic appeal has faded but it is still a very beautiful guitar.

This really is a rock solid guitar. it feels sturdy, the strap buttons screw on and feel chunky and sturdy, everything about this guitar is stalwart, the only downsides i can see is the gold finish has begun to wear off, and the output socket sometimes cuts out (this is just a tightening issue and im being lazy not fixing it) but the rest of the guitar stands up to punishment well.

I had a one year warranty from the 2nd hand guitar shop, otherwise i havent used any of this.

This guitar is the best guitar i've ever played, and i've played some classics, i've been playing for about 5 years now, and the improvement in my playing has been marked this last year. I still dont feel that i'm really pushing this guitar to its limit yet, but its something i'm really looking forward to growing into. If this guitar were stolen or lost, it would be difficult to replace as the model is fairly rare. I dont think i could let that happen.
My favourite thing about this guitar is the sheer sound of it! It really puts a smile on your face and a catch in your throat.
I originally intended to buy a duesenberg starplayer after hearing good things about it, but i opted to buy this guitar after trying it out on the recommendation of a friend and pretty much falling in love with it. Something to look forward to playing when i get home from work!

with Sperzel locking tuners. it also has 22 frets with
a custom 25" scale. this guitar was made in 2001 in Japan
and has two volume controls a master volume the position
pickup selector and a three way tone switch. The pickups
are two High Sensitive Filter'Trons with passive electronics.
Has a Mahogany body with an arch Maple top with a Ebony fingerboard.

This guitar is perfect for the music that I play
60's and Rockabilly. Have a brand new Amp a Fender
59 Bassman LTD reissue. Not noisy at all and I get
a great full sound and if I want a bright sound
this guitar has no problem doing that. I have never
own a guitar like this one it has everything that
I want soundwise. There nothing do dislike about the
guitar.

When I bought this guitar the dealer ask me how I wanted
the setup to be. I told him as low as possible with out
any buzzing. When I got the guitar all I had to do was
tune it and that night you could play a gig its that good
of a guitar. Everything was fine on the guitar no flaws
at all.

This guitar can withstand anything playing live night
after night. Hardware will last forever and the finish
is great. The strap button are as solid as a rock and
with this guitar I don't need a backup. I do have another
guitar and I don't think I would need it.

If I needed to get it repaired I would
do that where I live. I don't remember how
long the warranty is for and I haven't had
to deal with the company.

I've been playing since 1988 and I have a G&L Asat
Classic that I just bought and a brand new Fender
59 Bassman LTD reissue that I just bought. A frien had
the same guitar and when I didn't have one he let me
use his and that's what sold me on this guitar the neck
on this guitar AWSOME. If lost or stolen I wouldn't be to
happy and I would replace it with another one. The thing
that I love about this guitar is that it is the best playing
guitar that I ever had. I'm not a fan of the Les Paul body
style but this guitar grew on me. Not everyone will like this
guitar but for me I love that great Gretsch sound. I bought this
guitar in 2003.

I have been using this guitar since March. I play out at least twice a week and also use it for my twice weekly band rehersals. This is one of the "new" Gretsch guitars made in Japan. Not a reproduced "classic" instrument. You can read all the specs on the website. I'll concentrate on my personal experience. I decided on the black model. I do have a penchant for green guitars but the green Easton didn't appeal to me for some reason. The gold Bigsby, tune-o-matic bridge, and hardware has really stood up to a lot of giging. The neck is very comfortable with just the slightest hint of a V shape from the nut to about the 7th fret area. By the time you get to the 12th fret the V is gone entirely. I really dig the control layout. Swapping the pickup selector and tone switch positions make a lot of sense. Rolling off either the neck or bridge volume with the pickup selector in the middle position really adds a new tonal dimension and having the master volume so close to the picking hand is so very nice too. I love the locking Sperzel tuners with the Bigsby. This thing stays in tune. The included hard shell case is very nice and has endured multiple van rides. My guitars are "last in, first out" van items but there is still the occasional bump and slide.

I play a mixture of Bluez, Country and Rock. I have played the Easton through a variety of amps (THD, SMF, Marshall, Ampeg, Fender and most recently Krank) with positive results. This guitar really likes tubes. It sounds OK through the Fender Cyber-Twin, Line 6 amps and POD, Yamaha DG100, etc. but the true sound of this guitar is too sweet to be manipulated in the digital domain. My favorite set up is with a low wattage class A amp like the SMF 15 Watter or the THD Univalve. Although it sounds great with higher powered tube amps like a Vox AC 30, Fender Twin or a tube Marshall. I like using analog pedals too. My signal chain is simple: Compressor (Keeley), EQ (Demeter Fat Control), OD/Distortion (Radial Tonebone), and Wah (Vox or the new Ibanez Weeping Demon). I would rate the sound a 5 with digital amps and multi effect pedals and an 8 with solid state amps. The Easton gets a solid 10 with a tube amp.

The factory set up was great and the fit and finish were as good as I have seen on any guitar. It is worth noting this is a urethane finish not lacquer. The internal wire and electronics were neatly soldered and securely fastened. This thing is really hollow too except for the center block which extends far enough so the pickups, bridge and Bigsby can be securely fastened down.

Yes, this guitar will withstand live playing. The hardware is rock solid and the gold finished parts have not shown any sign of wear - yet. The finish has withstood sweat, smoke, beer, and the omnipresent bar spooge without any loss of luster. I do not like the strap knobs, however. Although they look great and securely attach the strap to the guitar, unscrewing the strap knobs twice a night just begs for the inevitable loss of a strap knob. Particularly after a long night - if you know what I mean.

I have been playing in bands since 1967 and have accumulated quite a collection (around 35 guitars and basses - that's not counting the cheap ones either) Only four are non USA. A first year Ibanez Jem 77 signed by Vai, a Jag-Stang, and my two Gretsch guitars. The Easton elicits comments ranging from "nice looks" to the more important "wow, what a sound!" Remember, opinions are like armpits...we all have them and some stink.

Case included.

Awesome complex rock background like AC/DC and Great finger picking like Chet Atkins. This stuff can't be beat. The pickups really have a sparkle that I don't have on my other guitars. The only drawback is the lead for metal stuff-not much sustain when doing that.

I got this at guitar center but it was high up so it was never touched. Perfect setup with new strings. The guitar has a flawless finish. The only grip is the switches are noisy...not enough to replace just enough to make me notice when changing....shouldn't be on this high cost of a guitar.

This guitar is very well built...switches are the only issue. It should last a lifetime.

Haven't ever used it but it's Fender now..never used them either. Might check on the switch issues but I'll bet I'll have to deal with it myself. Should be good for a N/A here but no option for that so I'll stick with the same level review as the guitar.

This is one great guitar. A Great Gretsch sound. Beautiful, functional, and now one of my favorites out of almost 30 guitars. I will probably add a Setzer hot rod in the near future. Now that fender owns them things are looking even better, they are truly improving the line. I'm sold on Gretsch and I would like to see more dealers carry them but it's nice to play something that everyone is not. I think the cost is a bit high but they have no real equal for their sound.

Two pickups, separate volume control for each pickup, master volume control, pickup selector switch (bridge, both, and neck), and tone switch (middle position no capacitor, two other positions have different capacitor settings). Different in that it does not have a tone knob, but a tone switch. I find the two capacitor settings not of much use, but may change my mind as I experiment.
Love the Sperzel locking tuners. Really stays in tune.

I can get every sound I hear in my head out of this guitar. Incredibly rich and versatile. However, I must state that I replaced the stock pickups with TV Jones Filtertrons, so I can't speak for the stock alnicos. But with the TV Jones pickups, this guitar is incredibly rich, warm, and versatile in its tone. I installed Pyramid Gold flatwound .11s and they really are perfect with this guitar. Twangy and warm. You can play Beatles, to Stax soul, to distorted hard rock with this guitar. Incredible!

Perfect action, fit and finish. The guitar itself is flawless and Don Butler did an incredible job of setting it up. This is probably the best looking guitar I have every seen in person. (One of my bandmates couldn't stop staring at it - it was almost embarrassing!)

I haven't gigged with it yet but it looks very durable. The strap bottoms are screw-ons so no chance of the strap slipping off. Looks and feels very dependable. I plan to gig without a backup.

I have been playing guitar for almost 30 years, and have been playing with a band actively for 5 years. I have owned a PRS, Fender Teles, G&L Teles, Fender Strats, and Rickenbackers, and have never had a guitar this beautiful, this versatile, this toneful, and this easy to play. I can recommend this guitar without qualification, especially if you like that vintage guitar sound.

2000 Model. Typical Duojet shape. Lots of strange features, master volume plus seperate volumes for both pickups, no tone knob just a tone switch does doesn't seem to do much. Bigsby Vibrato. Locking Sperzel tuners. Really nice neck, wide but thin from front to back. Nice tight case. Beautiful green finish with gold hardware

Unusual crispy tone from the filtertrons. I am not sure if these are the new super authentic filtertrons or the ceramic ones, but they sound identical to the ones on my 1966 Country Gentleman, which is a good thing. Distorts nicely. Cleans up nice also. Not as much definition as my favorite guitar (Rickenbacker 360v64) but a close second.

This geeeeetar is beautiful. Fit and finish appear to be topnotch. Set up was poor to say the least. The strings were too light and buzzed even on open chords. All it took was a heavier set of strings and a twist of the truss rods and all was well. The store should have done this before it was shipped out.

2000. USA materials, built in Germany. Finish in Japan. 22 Frets. Solid Arched maple top on chambered mahogany body. Very unique electronics. It has individual volume knobs, a master volume knob, 3-way pick-up toggle switch, and a 3-way tone toggle switch. Gretsch Filtertron Humbucking pick-ups (nothing sound like a Gretsch....believe it!). Very high gloss Cadillac Green painted top. Resembles PRS McCarty Single-cut body style. Gold plated Bigsby tremelo...a real Bigsby that is! Locking Sperzel tuners, matt finish. Very fat neck, 25" scale. Custom hard-shell case included.

I play mostly classic rock and the Blues. The saying, "nothing sounds like a Gretsch", could never be more true. The patented Filtertron pickups have a very unique color that to date is unparalelled. Don't be mistaken though....you either love it or not. I f you are not afraid to make music never heard before as opposed to re-making music everyone has heard before...try a Gretsch. I use a Laney LC-50 all tube 50 watt with a Mesa-Boogie V-Twin pre-amp pedal. I have replaced the original Laney speaker with a Celestion V12-80. Nuff said, huh?

Immaculate in every detail. All hardware is 24 carat gold plated. That would account for a good portion of the beefy price tag....retail 3000.00 ouch! I don't mean to be so bfief here but really; this is one of those guitars one would almost hesitate to take out of the house for fear of having to dismember someone for spilling a beer within 25 yards of it!
