My Sharp 5 is the original late 60's model that features two hot single coil PU's, jaguar style floating tremolo tailpiece, 3-way PU selector switch on the lower cutaway, zero fret, bound body, bound rosewood neck, german carved top, sparkle blue/green finish, 1 volume/ 1 tone knob. This one was obviously inspired by mosrite, the fender jaguar, and teisco spectrum 5. It's a simple feature-wise, but all you need really. I personally don't like to be distracted by tons of features and for what I need, this has plenty of. I give it 5 for simple, but functional.

The Sharp 5 suits my music style perfectly. my sound thrives on the hot single coil sound. My style is indie/ post-punk/ shoegaze. I typically run though a Teisco Checkmate 50 and boss effects. This guitar is very low noise and surprisingly not too microphonic, which was common with a lot of japanese made department store cheapies of the era. The Sharp 5 was probably Guyatone's high end guitar judging from the design and workmanship. A guitar of this attention would command at least a $1000 today. The tone is well balanced, rich/ full/ bright and oozes with fat vintage tone. it's thick, but maintains a jangly high end and rivals any high end american fender today. There is nothing I dislike about the sound of this guitar.
Action, Fit, & Finish

I had it setup at my favorite local guitar repair shop and they do an outstanding job with whatever i bring them. The action, fit, and finish are fine aside from the natural wear and tear of a vintage guitar that's been played. The neck is outstanding. very narrow and fast, much like mosrites.

This guitar would definitely withstand live playing. It's seen a lot of action and shows the age of a 40 year old guitar. There is some pitting on the hardware, but it's still very sturdy. I'm not about to smash it through a marshall full stack anytime soon. It's overall dependable and I'd be comfortable using it without a backup.

Been playing for 10 years. I own a ton of guitars, but my favorite is probably my ventures mosrite. I would absolutely try to find another Sharp 5 if I had to. they're fantastic sounding guitars and at fantastic value. I love the vintage vibe with this one. It's obscure, worn in, and full of character. most importantly it just sounds amazing.
