2008 model made in China, specs same as the other reviews. I got mine in Cherry sunburst (nice). Do like the coil tap feature.
Sound

Sound is great, tho abit dark. Easy enough to adjust on the amp... Nice full sound, no noise. I usually use it with a Vox DA-5, tho sometimes a Roland micro cube and a tech 21 trademark 60 (great amp). Can get all sorts of wonderful sounds, single coil mode won't be a strat, but then again it isn't thin like a strat. I can make most of the sounds I want in a semi-hollow/solid configuration. It isn't a holowbody jazz box, but you can approximate in a pinch.

Set up was okay. It does have a wonderful neck, very quick and still can bend notes and all that with some tactile feedback.
top not fully aligned for bookmatch, but close enough and most wouldn't notice. They do need to up their quality control however in the cosmetics. the routing job was rough on the f hole, their was some clouding from too much finish in some areas of the headstock, a spec of sawdust under the finish on the 12th fret marker, small bit of abalone missing in the design in headstock (not big, but should have been caught). The knobs are very cheesy looking and replaced right away. Hardware seems solid enough. would have preferred a satin finish neck... Sunburst finish is good with nice gradations of color.

I have no doubt it will survive playing. It is not flimsy at all, solid like a tank. However, I live in Thailand at the beach (a severe test for any part of a guitar!!!). The chrome plating on all chrome surfaces is far too thin. Within weeks it started to discolor and tarnish, inspite of my efforts to keep it clean and take the sweat off as soon as I finished playing. So now the pickups and tailpiece are less than beautiful. Too bad.
So as far as the playing goes, no problem. But chrome is big problem.

Got a lifetime warranty (yeah, when it breaks, it's lifetime is over, ha ha). Doesn't cover the chrome etc...

I've been playing about 40 years. I have maybe 13 guitars: half acoustic (Breedlove, Tacoma, Larrivie, Gibson, etc); Ibanez Hollowbody (love that one), Guild Starfire IV, some strats, etc. I bought from guitar center on line since they don't stock these. I was apprehensive, and with good reason, considering cosmetic flaws. Also didn't think it would be quite that heavy. I don't own a car here in Thailand, so that and my Vox portable can be a bit much after awhile. I would probably get another one, but would like to choose my own. Didn't have luxury of enough time during last visit to states.
Would be nice if it had 2 vol/2 tone controls. Coil tap is not just volume cutter like some say.
I wanted the hagstrom vibe. Maybe cuz first teacher had one way back when...And I play for alot of Scandinavians... Sweden and all that. For what it is, and what you pay, it is a good deal. Especially if you live in a normal climate that is not too salty or hot or humid.

Deluxe F in ???Amber Sunburst??? but looks more like a Tangerine burst.
Two HB pickups with coil split option. Two volumes and two tone controls.
Most outstanding features are the H truss rod and composite material fretboard.
Gets an 9 since it has enough features that distinguish it from the competition.
Sound

The stock factory pickups sound great. This is the first mid priced guitar I???ve purchased and haven???t felt the need to change the pups out. Although humbuckers, they have a lot of clarity and sparkle. They split into a very usable single coil sound (almost) with no hum at all.
The only issue I can really complain about would be the tone and volume pots. They???re not noisy or anything but do work more like an Off-On switch than a variable control. Zero to four is about the same and then they suddenly jump to in output to maybe eight or ten. I guess this could be remedied by a couple of high quality CTS pots. I???ll probably get around to it but the situation isn???t so bad that I???m in a hurry to do it. It???ll be very inexpensive fix anyway since a separate mini switch controls the coil split.
It has a fat, full sound with the HBs that takes you far into LP territory but with much more clarity than you would expect. That makes the guitar very versatile. It???s responsive and notes just jump off the fretboard. I had never played a guitar at this price point that sounded so good 100% stock. Played through either a tube or s.s. amp, it's a sweet sounding instrument.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Another positive thing about the guitar is that the factory setup was very good and was almost perfect right out of the box. The action was spot on and all that was needed was a quick intonation tweak.
The neck was perfectly straight. All I did was add a hair of relief, that was easy to do since the H truss rod works very smoothly and the neck responds immediately. After a small pickup height adjustment, the guitar was ready to go. The factory adjustment was fine and I only changed it based on personal preference. There were no flaws at all on the finish, mine has a flamed top, fret ends were fine and everything else was solid.
All the hardware is top quality but the trademark, floating, tailpiece wasn???t to my liking so I replaced it with a standard (and simpler) one. There was nothing wrong with the original; it???s a high quality piece but just a bit too ???fancy??? for my taste. Fortunately, replacing the tailpiece didn???t change the guitar???s original sound.
The overall quality at this price is amazing; someone was really looking out for the details. It???s Chinese made instrument that goes a looooong way into defending Asian manufacturing.

This Hag will stand up to any playing situation I can think of... with maybe the exception of the neck- strap twirls little kids seem fond of posting on You Tube!
The finish seems especially tough.

As you can probably tell, I???m very impressed with this guitar. I???ve had it a couple of months now and waited for a while to write a review, just to make sure I had gotten over the initial honeymoon phase.
I???ve been playing for about five years and have owned quite a few guitars in that time. Although I don???t consider myself a guitar ???expert??? by any means, I have come along enough to know a good instrument when I get my hands on it. My only regret is not having purchased the original hardcase. I???ve talked to a few other Hagstrom owners and they seem to be very satisfied with their guitars as well.
I???m so impressed with Hagstrom???s quality that I???ve decided to buy another and have ordered one of their hollowbodies. If the quality of my Deluxe F is indicative of their entire lineup, I???m sure it???ll be a killer guitar too.

I honestly cannot believe this guitar. I needed a decent backup guitar to my Gibson Faded LP. I read a review online somewhere about Hagstroms, so I looked them up on Ebay. I found a guy who ran an online ebay store. He sells Hagstroms that have a manufacturer's defect. He was (and still is) selling D2F's that had a slight grayed blemish on the fretboard. You can barely notice the "defect". I got the guitar for $265 (before shipping). The guitar is absolutely gorgeous. It plays fantastic, and believe it or not, I'm now considering making my Les Paul the backup because of how amazing the Hagstrom sounds. I play it through a Fender Super Reverb and it sounds so incredibly warm that it blows me away. I'd recommend this guitar to anyone. I will probably buy another Hagstrom in the not too distant future.

Flamed top, amber sunburst. Sort of LP-style body, smaller & Lighter. Tune-o-matic bridge, really nice tuners (similair to grover) Thin but rather wide neck, very solid&smooth feel beautifull binding/pearl block inlays. No accesoires other than a Allen-key and a warranty card. Built in 2006, mahogany body/maple cap with f-hole on the upper-side (telecaster thinline!). 2x Humbucker 1 volume, 1 tone and 1 coiltap. Neck PU has lower output than bridge PU, according to my luthier very much PRS like. Passive circuity.
Sound

Very versatile, suits anything from jazzy/funk fusion to classic bridge overdrive. Use it on a fender champ 25se / seymour duncan twinvalve preamp and a TECH21 Trademark. No noise! very full&fat sound. With coiltap on you can produce Fender SC sounds, but i like the Humbucking sound better. Really nothing to dislike.

Factory set up, i don't know because it was set up by local luthier, took him only 15 minutes though... should be okay i guess. No visable flaws, really pretty guitar.

Been playing some 20 years, had Ibanez/Yamaha/Fender & Gibson. Bought this one because of its looks (!), but hey it sounds great and has a real caracter of its own. Would buy one again, there's nothing i dislike about this guitar. At this price it is a bargain, but i imagine i would pay double...it is that good (and even better)

The guitar, again, is made from prime materials. See www.hagstromguitars.com for specs. Body is mostly mahogony with a maple cap. Has alnico 5 humbuckers, an ornate trapeze tailpiece, tune-o-matic bridge, and beautiful binding throughout. The ONLY criticism I have for Hagstrom is that the Deluxe - F is mostly available in the sparkle finish. It is a nice touch and has its place, but I like solid colors too (other than Sunburst). World, this is a fantastic guitar. Gibson, you are way overrated and largely over priced. Goodbye.

I've been playing now for 17 years. I've had in my hands a variety of guitars, including Gibsons, Fenders, and a plethora of alternative and/or economy brands. My styles include blues, classis rock, and some jazz. I'm playing this guitar through a Yamaha T100 amp and it sounds wonderful. Rich, full, and very Les Paul - ES 335 like on the humbucker settings, and, I believe, there is a coil tap switch that makes this guitar sound glassy and P90-ish. The latter is a great tone for the 50's, Setzer like style. The reviewer below attributes the secondary toggle to out of phase, but don't believe this to be the case. Flipping the switch, to me, seems to split the coils of the humbuckers, giving a P90 effect. It very well could place the pickups out of phase and not into a coil split mode. Perhaps another reviewer can research this spec. At any rate, the secondary toggle makes this guitar a very versatile instrument. Once more, it sounds great! I once owned a Gibson ES335 and foolishly parted ways with it for a modest sum. Like the last reviewer, I've been jonesing to fill that Gibson void, but could not bring myself to pay the new Gibson premium (ridiculous, by the way). Not any more. This Hagstrom is now made in China - big F'n deal. Those Chinese sure can build a QUALITY instrument. See ya, Gibson.

This Hagstrom came ready for show right out of the box. The neck plays like butter, the action is not too low, not too high. No fret buzz all the way down the neck, it plays like a dream. This model also has a very ornate trapeze tail piece - beautiful touch. The classic 58 alnico 5's are just as the name implies, classic. The guitar did have a small sticker on the back that said "made in China." Well, the Chinese then can sure build one heck of an instrument. If this were American made, Hagstrom could EASILY demand $1200 for this work of art. See ya, Gibson.

This guitar is a Sherman tank. You would need armor piercing ammunition to put it down. The hardware is ornate and top notch. The finish is a very durable polyester. Many would criticize this, stating that nitrocellulose laquer is the only way to go for quality. I say to those people, "Wake up." You would have to have the ears of a canine (or, a bat for that matter) to distinguish the resonant difference. The woods of this guitar are mahogany for the neck and most of the body. Like a LP, it has a maple cap, but dons a nice f-hole and semi hollow body on half of the instrument. This guitar embodies all worlds including the richness of a LP, the overtones of a 335, and the glassy, thinner tones (Fender) of the coil tapping feature (again, is this coil splitting or out of phase- somebody let us know). I've heard that this guitar was once made in Sweden, and has been reissued from the Republic of China. Well folks, look around you, everything we consume is from overseas or south of the border. The materials on this guitar are prime. Who put it together is beside the point. See ya, Gibson.

Again. I've been playing for 17 years and say that this guitar plays as well as and , I dare say, better than your $2000 Gibson. I can say this because I owned a played a 1983 ES 335 dot for 12 years.Today, that guitar resales for $2,800. That guitar was made in Nashville, this Hamstrong is made in China. Look out Gibson, the Sleeping Giant has awakened. See ya...

This review is a first impression of a brand new instrument. I have not heard it at stage volume with a band, nor have I gigged with it yet. I will try to follow up with another report after a few gigs.
I shoot for a traditional rock/country sound and prefer to switch between Fender and Gibson style instruments at clean to mildly overdriven distortion, during live performance. This instrument captures the "Gibson" sound well enough for me to stop jonesing about guitars out of my price range. My live performance guitars are a '00 American Stratocaster, a 1960 Danelectro Bass 6, and until recently, a '62 Gibson SG Special and/or an Ibanez Artist from the 80's. My setup includes a Reverend Hellhound 40-Watt 1-12 combo, Morley ABC switchbox used to select guitars, Boss TU-2 tuner, Duncan Pickup Booster (for the Strat and Dan), a 70's MXR dynacomp, Morley Wah/Volume pedal, Diaz Tremodillo and a 70's solid-state Echoplex in the amp's effects loop.
I found this guitar to be very quiet, even sitting directly in front of my computer screen with my amp under the desk. The controls work well, with no scratchy noises or pops. I like the sounds in every possible switch position. The Treble pot rolls off treble evenly and doesn't affect the volume output like a lot of imports I have tried. It exhibits very Gibson-like humbucking sounds and does not sound anything like my Strat, which is excellent. I don't mind not having separate volume and tone controls for each pickup, because I like to keep things simple. I have read others' accounts of lackluster or no usable sounds concerning the Hagstrom "phase" switch, but I like it. I am not sure what it is actually doing (switching pickup-to-pickup phase or cutting out coils), but there is a definite drop in output volume without extra noise when the toggle is up at all pickup select positions. Tones are still good out of both pickups individually and combined, just at a lower volume. Toggle down seems to be full volume output at all positions. I will try it out as a sort of "Rhythm/Lead" option and see what happens. At least there six distinctly different sounds.
This guitar ROCKS. It is loud and rings well enough to practice acoustically without a headphone amp. I could not get a bad sound out of it through my amp or my POD-based home recording stuff.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The guitar came to me through a dealer, so I am not sure if it was adjusted after the factory or not. It was shipped with a new set of strings (feel like 10's) detuned and after tuning and stretching out stays remarkably well in tune. The stairstep tuners are stamped with Hagstrom name and they feel smooth and tight but do not lock. They should last. Action was low but high enough to bend strings easily. The neck is quite fast and feels very much like my old SG. I crash around a lot, so I will lower the pickups a bit to avoid hitting them. I metered the output volume in each pickup position and found the levels from pickup to pickup to be esentially equal.
The workmanship on the finish, etc. is quite good. The photos on the Hagtrom website do not do the guitar justice. There are two little flaws in the body binding and a couple of little irregularities in the fretboard grain, but hardly visible from a few inches away. The flame top is breathtaking. It is bookmatched nicely and the cherryburst was well executed. The chamber in the body was sprayed black so that the F hole really stands out. The body is a beautiful piece of mahogany, the neck joint appears to be well made and the overall feel is solid, built like a tank.
Reliability/Durability

This guitar appears to be built to last a long time. I install straplocks on all of my instruments, but the stock buttons look trustworthy. I prefer chrome hardware and the plating looks like it will hold up over time. I gig with two or three guitars onstage anyway, so there is always a backup. My only concern is the wiring is a kind of cheesy, but everything I see coming out of China features less than inspiring wiring. I am an electronics tech and repair my own toys and I will probably have to work on this guy at some point in time.

I have been playing since 1964. I am primarily a bassist, but double on lead and rhythm guitar and own a '75 Rickenbacker 4001 fretless bass, 70's Hofner Beatle bass, Michael Dolan custom 5-string bass, 80's Guild acoustic bass, 1960 Danelectro Bass 6 (LP shape), '61 Gibson LG2 acoustic, '03 Gibson J45, '00 Fender Stratocaster, Reverend Hellhound amp, '53 Fender Deluxe, 70's silverface Fender Champ, Ampeg SVT100 small bass amp, Carvin bass preamp, Phase Linear stereo power amp and Carvin 2X10 cab for big bass amping. I also have a Sansamp GT2, Line 6 POD 2.0, a bunch of stomp boxes and an older Macintosh computer running an early version of Protools.
My requirements included lighter weight than a standard Les Paul instrument. I really wanted to buy a Guild Bluesbird, but could not afford the AAA Flametop models that one sees on ebay or wherever. I compared the Epiphone Wildcat, Eastwood Savannah and a lot other semi-hollow guitars and then just bought it without playing it first. My experience with Bruce Diamond was very good and we struck a good deal. If this guitar was stolen I would definitely replace it.
