This is one of Hagstrom's 335 style guitars, I believe it was called a Scandia. Semi solid, 2 humbuckers, 2 tone pots, 2 vol pots, a 3 way toggle for the pickups, a 3 way toggle for tone selection (poor man's Varitone?).Has an ornate D'Aquisto style head and tuners, and a chrome Guild style tailpiece. Has a maple block, and 24 3/4" neck. Bolt on neck, rosewood fingerboard. Sunburst finish. Frets are on the light side.

Sound : 9
This is a near perfect jazz/blues ax. Great fat sound on the neck pickup, nice sweet but bright sound on both pickups, hard bite on the bridge pickup.Sounds great for blues, jazz, ok for rock. I have GHS .011 ground wound strings on it. Played thru a Fender it sounds sooo sweet. I went up against a 335 in a jam session, the two guitars were almost indistinguishable. There is virtually no hum of funky noise in the electronics. The bridge pickup is very brittle sounding by itself, rarely use it alone. This guitar can really get a good crunch trough the proper amp, but I'm not into that. My biggest complaint is that the sound quality really drops off when the volume pots are turned down.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Very impressive workmanship! Beautiful fit and finish. Better workmanship than my 175. Very thin neck. One drawback is the neck joins the body further in than a 335, so it's harder reaching way up there.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I bought this beauty about 5 years ago, it was probably made in the 70's. I've done many gigs with it, and it's always been fine. Seems to be pretty rugged for a semi-solid. The tuning heads are so big that it can be put out of tune by just putting it in it's case. Neck binding started peeling off a few years ago, but I carefully glued it back.

Hagstrom is long gone.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
If your looking for a poor man's 335, this is it. The bolt on neck doen't seem to detract from the sound, but the difficulty reaching way up the neck could be a drawback. Best $190 I ever spent!
