This thing was made in Sweden in the late sixties. It's got 3 pickups, each with their own off switch. Plus some other switches which say mute, on/off, top and one volume knob.
Mine is black and still pretty much brand new. The bridge is kind off annoying, because strings especially the low 'E' often fall off it when strumming hard. Whammy bar is ok, I'm glad mine still has it. ---The best feature is that Hagstrom guitars are thin as a plank, and the necks are the size of young girl's wrist.

Sound : 10
This is a jangly guitar, let that be known. I got it because I love Mudhoney, and other bands which go for the inadequate guitar sound. I love the three pick up version, becuase middle pickups are where it's at. The Hagstrom sounds the most like a Fender Mustang, it really sounds nothing like my stratocaster. I use them both back and forth....the strat is fat, and this Hagstrom is thin. It is capable of making the harshest tiniest, (not tiny, but tin-like sounds) I agree, you're not going to play solos on this, or perfect your scales, but you are going to strum, and strum hard. This guitar is perfect for noise rock, sonic youth/yo la tengo/half japanese sounds. Of course it's noisy, it sound great with chorus and overdrive (listen to nirvana) This is a cool guitar, that is a great add on to the collection for going to noisy places, where you just don't care about what your left hand is doing.

It is trebly, hollow, sort of bassy, thin but not glassy, twangy but not is a strat way, it can do ultra bassy tones, but it gets super muddy in a kind of outstanding way. It really goes from super trebley to super bassy....with only a few stops in the middle. There's no tone knob, so it's up to the guitar what you get out of it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Set-up? yeah it's set up.
Action can be changed easily, bridge is a bitch as I mentioned before. The switches are easy, and all mine are silent
The nut is cut fine. the tuning pegs are really stiff, but I never change tuning pegs, it kills the spirit of a vintage guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 8
This guitar is reliable, but I would never use it as my main guitar.
It's is just something I use on some songs which have spaz out parts. I have a Amer. Standard Strat, and a PRS Custom22, to call on for the serious stuff. but this Hagstrom sits with my Mustang for those times when I feel the need to kick the treble.
the bridge is a pain in the arse....but that's cool. This guitar is Swedish!!!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Hagstrom is sadly, gone.

Overall Rating : 8
this is a cool guitar. It feels great, plays funny, and sounds amazing. A lot of great bands used Hagstroms, and that's because they are an outstanding guitar for alternative, ''I don't care about notes and chord'' styles of playing. The three pick up version is essential. Overall, I'd say get this guitar if you already have about 6 others.
