Great action, great copper finish.

harmony doesnt exist.

Overall Rating : 10
Great guitar, try to get a 2 pickup model before spending big bucks on these vintage treasures. Without a bridge pu, its tough to CUT with this sometimes.

One pickup, volume knob, tone knob.

Tone that blows your head off. I've bought guitars based on hype; this is the only one that lives up to it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Big honkin' neck, not for the timid. This is not a sports car, this is a big fat cruiser.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Very solid. Stays in tune no matter how hard I whang on it. It is, however, a student model, and all of them are 50 years old or older, so play before you buy. The necks can warp.

The size will draw derision ("Where's the REST of your guitar?") but the tone is unique. If you like to jump around on stage, this little thing makes it easy.

This the neck trouh first model produced from until 1957. It is finished in gold like color and it has the Silvertone inlay on the headstock but is absolutely identical to the harmny and it was cedrtainly made by harmony with everythign the same right down to the knobs and tuners. It has a single DeArmond PU called often the Hershey Bar PU. It has a solo or rythm selector and 3 per side old tuners. I got it all original even the chip case, with honest play wear and finish wear but well well worth every penny. The neck is big and substantial like I liek it and plays great. I have to give it an 8 as it is not built for versatility and it doesn't have bells and whistles, it was made for Sears catalog, but don't be fooled!

Sound : 10
I have to give it a 10 as i havent touched another guitar that could hold a candle to the Blues tone thjat comes from this guitar. I ahve had some of the later hollowbody models too and they all had a great big thick tone too, but this one just resonates like crazy with a Huge warm and thick Bluesy sound. I use it for Blues of course, some slide, and actually some jazz as it is warm and so much fun to play. The shorter scale makes solo Jazz fun. It is light but not for its small size. It has a light amount of vinatge hum but nothing that is an issue. The variety, is not shocking but the tones that come are all usable and very pleasing. I know some poepl bash harmony gutars for being catalog guitars but this is a winner!!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I will give it a high rating here as although it is not a custom finish or a multiply bound body or elegantly inlayed it is solid and made without defect and it has held up for 50 years and sounds as good if not better than the day it was born and it plays great as setup now. Caps, PU and tone pots are still working great and they are actually of very high vinatge quaity

Reliability/Durability : 10
Come on 50 years and still KILLER. Finish is flaking and it isn't all that pretty to most, maybe just me.

Yes this is a fantastic value. The prices are getting very high on these but I was willing to spend the money on this without a second thought. It isn' built like a strat which you could buy for this money easily, but it is a far superior Blues guitar tonally. Some may not agree of course, but in my opinion the tone is just sweeter, warmer and has MOJO that cannot be rebuilt. Tese are collectors as they are the ealiest of the Harmony electrics and they did good with this one. As I said i think some of the harmony guitars are just wonderful guitars. If you see a H-44, any of the thinlines (335 styles), patrician, Jazz artist, Espanada, or lastly the Cremona archtop don't miss out they are great values as the tone is absolutely fanatastic to my ears. Outside of this harmony I have a Cremona cutaway acoustic archtop carved top. Beats my vintage Epiphone Blackstone and give my triumph and Deluxe a run for their money in all honesty. I usually play Jazz on both vinatge and modern archtops but when i am feeling bluesy this is the guitar! I will hopefully never need to sell it, God willling. If you se the neck trhough model come up somewhere d not miss it. The later hollowbodies are also lots of fun and sounds great too, but hold out for this H-44 pre 1957 and you will be pleased i think.

mid 50's.USA. 20 frets i believe. 1 pickup vol. tone. capacitor switch. solid neck through body. copper finish. small brass frets.

Has anyone noticed people are still getting bigger, but guitar necks are getting smaller? These new fangled pencil necks will give you repetitive strain injury for sure. Harmony had it right in 1953 with a fat, wide neck that fills you hand.

missing bridge replaced with one from a danelectro convertible. (a no mod retrofit that works great, just take the screws out of the bridge and you good to go).

the guitar of the future/yesterday. everything you want nothing you don't. this guitar is as close to perfect as i have played.

Sound : 10
holy shit! It's not just the sustain. It's the way it sustains. It's the neck that really resonates, transfering the energy back to the strings through the frets. It just comes to life in your hands, more resonant than my chambered strat or any of my hollow electrics. acoustically it has a very strong loud voice.

It's easy to believe this guitar has a will of it's own. You don't choose this guitar. this guitar chooses you. Crossroads vibe. This thing is a heavy trip. Vodoo Mojo!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
gorgeous copper finish revealing green and grey as it wears. Original fret work is quite nice. they really don't make 'em like this anymore. really!

The switch and tone pot on mine are not functional, but i'm afraid if i change anything it might change the tone which would kill me so i just don't touch it. the pick up buzzes but stops if you flick it a couple times, again i just don't wan't to disturb it much.

Reliability/Durability : 10
The body and neck are one. very solid and light. has a feeling of indestructiblity. You could beat a group hecklers to death with it and the neck would stay straight. These guitars will be played through several genetic mutations.

I heard thay are reissuing the solid body stratotone this year. anyone know anything?

playing long time. lost? i'd drive to every pawn shop, thrift store, and swap meet in the U.S. 'till i found another, or pay stoopid money 'cause i ain't livin' without 'er!
